This Museum is included in the category of Middle Eastern restaurant.
Great hosts, appetizer and main was good. My Americano and other drinks were wonderful. Carrot cake was a bit dense... overall, 4.2/5
Beautiful space and great service but the food tasted saturated in sugar and unbalanced. The paneer curry, chicken glaze, and even the rice (raisins).
OMG The lamb burger was devine and the service was top notch
Horrible place. Portions were very small and over priced. Ordered shawarma with fries for 25 dollars and shawarma was rubber with no spice but a sugar flavor. They gave me on only 10 fries. I thought u would get a load of them. Me and my family went here thinking it's a good restaurant that's fancy. But no it's a huge disappointment bill was 300 with my family. 7 of us. We didn't order that much. Desert was half a slice and half the size and was overpriced and store bought. Anybody looking for a restaurant please do not go here u will have a bad experience. Save ur money and go somewhere else. U will get ripped off here. Go to a Brazilian steakhouse which has the top quality of meat and stuff that is worth it.
The best service i have had in ages. It is a beautiful space and perfect for dining with family and friends
Lovely place to meet for lunch. They have lovely wines by the glass we started sharing the sizzling tickka shrimp it was really sizzling when it arrived @ the table delicious. I then had 12hr braised pie short ribs really nice & tender. My friend had whole Mediterranean sea bass she really enjoyed it. I had honey moon dessert with a cappuccino. Everything was wonderful it was not to noisy so we could talk. 1st time there would return many interesting choises on the menu.
Excellent place, great food, great service. The atmosphere is amazing. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed the meal on the patjo! Great fusion dishes and flavour. Excellent service
Enjoyed a lovely lunch with my sister yesterday. Had the calamari appetizer and beet falafel burger, both were delicious. Our server, Angelo, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Would love to try their dinner menu!
Service needs to be faster. We had to wait for more than 30 mins for our food, which is way too long considering that there are offices around the area that may come there for lunch during their lunch break. On the other hand, the staff was friendly, food was tasty and reasonably priced and the ambience was good. I would go there again only if I had my afternoon free so that I don't worry about how long the service takes.
Amazing food @ Winterlicious2020
Consistently delicious! Even during Summerlicious/Winterlicious, when some restaurants' quality goes down to be able to service the quantity of patrons visiting their establishment, Diwan one keeps their level at the highest!
Great food. Lovely place
Pretty good food. A bit on the salty side for me
We went last week for the office team dinner. Great service. Food felt average.
I always come by buying some food in this spot. I liked the fast customer service and well made dishes. 5 stars from me.
Creative menus and exotic dining atmosphere. The food here was more of adaptations of Persian and South Asian cuisines prepared with modern cooking techniques. The dishes were generally not too spicy, but instead very creatively done with fresh ingredients and moderate uses of spices from the region. Both the restaurant interior and the building exterior were chic and exotic. Especially the interior decorations made feel like being in the actual museum. The service was friendly and usually attentive. One major flaw was that the onsite parking was quite expensive considering the remote location of the museum.
It seems Diwan still hasn’t figured out what kind of food it wants to serve. The fusion just isn’t hitting the mark. The salad had grapes, tomatoes and hot peppers topped with both tamarind sauce and mint dressing. The lamb shank could have been delicious but wasn’t. More so fatty with something underneath that couldn’t be discerned. Had hopes for dessert but my apple pie wasn’t warm/hot so the ice cream didn’t even melt and this was lack lustre. Disappointed. Won’t go back again.
Prettt good. Great service with amazing food ,definitely over expectaion.
Enjoyed an excellent Mother's Day brunch at Diwan this weekend. Every dish that we ordered was exquisitely presented and delightfully flavoured. Service was slow but friendly. Hard to put the cuisine of this restaurant in a box -- it is an original experience. The setting, known as the "Damascus Room" of the Aga Khan Museum is decorated with carved 19th-century panels from a private Syrian residence, and a view that looks onto the formal gardens of the Aga Khan Park and the Ismaili Centre beyond. Definitely worth visiting -- the hardest part is choosing the dish that will be your meal!
Great place to visit once for experience. Good atmosphere and nice décor. Spacious dining hall and comfortable seating arrangements. Worth for money less than 50%. As other compatible Indian restaurants have appropriate quantity of serving. I and my 3 guests were still hungry after the full meal that including couple of starters.
Enjoyed the ambiance and the food quality
OUTSTANDING ambiance, food and service! An absolute gem in the middle of Toronto. The restaurant is also a work of art to look at. One of the BEST restaurants in the city!
Beautifully located at the tranquil Aga Khan Museum. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor (seasonal) dining. Menu is Middle Eastern. Lamb is consistently on the menu as a best seller - highly recommended. Menu slightly changes each time I've visited. Always get the Tabouleh and save room for Baklawa and mint tea. Cocktails are always delcious.
Awesome menu, delicious choices.
The best restaurant I have ever been to; not enough words to describe it. From food to service and environment it was absolutely amazing! ????
Excellent food but the staff need training and the kitchen service was slower than slow.
Took my partner here for his birthday and we had a great experience! The hummus was delicious, the samosas were good. Both mine and my partner's main course was wonderful. I had the tandoori chicken wrap and he had the beef dish. The Panna cotta (best I've had) and carrot cake were perfect. Our waiter was also incredible. Thanks for a great experience.
The food was great
Came for Summerlicious. The decor was quite lovely. Reminded me of southern Spain and Morocco, which is very fitting for both the surrounding grounds, the museum, and the food. The food was delicious. The spices and flavour was on point and I could seriously sit and eat a giant bowl of the Beef Kofteh. The biryani was delicious and the lamb was nice and tender. The dessert the Citrus Wild Blueberry Parfait, and it was rich and wonderful. Glasses and wine and cocktails are all at about the $13 mark. Service was great, and the staff were wonderful with my friend’s baby.
Friendly staff, great service and food is yummy. Love their patio!
Outstanding food, service and decor.
Excellent food, and profoundly filling. I got the Chicken Jalfrezi (because it was gluten free) and my husband got the meatball starter and the Chicken Tikka Masala Sandwich. We would have loved to have dessert but we were stuffed. The ambiance is also quite lovely, but the service was a little slow. It took some time for our order to be taken and even longer to get our final bill.
It's clear that Diwan is guided by an inspired and creative palate. Traditional Middle Eastern and African dishes are presented with garnishes/accompaniments designed to tease out the flavours of top-quality ingredients and styles of preparation. We had an inspired meal here, and will certainly return. Our opening nibbles didn't last long, being fought over by us all. Sweet onion bhaji is perfectly piqued with a tart tamarind chutney, silky hummus alongside the beef short ribs, and the fatty saltiness of halloumi cheese is countered by pomegranate, dukkha, and pistachios. Moving on, we delighted in an avocado-grapefruit salad (another inspired combination!) with harissa vinaigrette, and a beet and goat cheese salad with its own long list of tantalizing accoutrements. Next up, lamb shanks with eggplant relish and a kale-coconut sambal which also accompanies the incredibly imaginative sweet pea falafel with ginger tahini. Top marks to the creative geniuses of Diwan, and to all the staff who delivered a memorable experience. We couldn't possibly have eaten more, but we'll definitely return to continue exploring the menu.
So many expectations from this place. Stood up to none. My wife and I wanted to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary by having lunch here. We had made reservations through Open Table days in advance and had let them know we would be celebrating at this venue. I had to give them a call few hours before my reservation to confirm. At this point I am told to arrive early so that other parties can have their setup planned out. Mocktails are a complete lie. Mixing generic syrups and charging exorbitant amount of money for the same is disappointing. Food menu is advertised to be elaborate with wide variety of options to choose from. But upon arrival you are presented with a handful of options to pick from. My wife being a vegetarian had to suffer the most here. Mediocre salad and even worse soups, this place gave us the griefs looking at the food. Salmon kababs felt like it was made earlier in the day only to be heated up and served when I ordered it. We have never felt this bad experience a high end restaurant than we had today. To top if off with the fact that we were celebrating our anniversary, it will forever stay in my ‘never-to-visit’ places. Only go here if you have money to waste and nothing to get in return.
Dining at Diwan was a great experience and restaurant's 300-400 years old decorative artwork and middle eastern music makes it so unique. Food is definitely what you would expect from the best in Toronto. Items in the menu are specifically designed to go with the theme of the Museum and the temporary exhibitions. In our case, menu was inspired by the Emperors & Jewels temporary exhibition. Starter, main course and desert were all really tasty and great. Make sure to spend the day at the Museum to not only try Diwan but enjoy the permanent collection and temporary Exhibitions.
The food portion is quite small but thats a very common aspect of fine dining. Service was extremely fast and friendly and their traditional yet hip ambience is their main selling point.
The food was very good. I started with carrot soup and then had Butter chicken with a side of saffron potatoes. The saffron potatoes were exceptional and everything else was very good. The service was attentive without being annoying and my server was super helpful.
Good food and friendly service.
Lovely place, their food was awesome... staff were friendly... locate on the museum with amazing design
Good food. Good athmospher; It is ridiculous to have to pay $10 for parking at lunch. They do not validate or cover the parking.
A beautiful place to spend time with your family, friends or that special person. The food is top notch, service is professional, and the atmosphere is serene. Highly recommended. I can’t wait to dine here again.
This is an excellent restaurant inside the Aga Khan museum. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. it also has an beautiful view of the Aga Khan Park as well as the Islamic center of Toronto. If you are visiting the museum you should not miss the opportunity to eat here.
Lovely, peaceful setting and great food!
The ambiance was as spectacular as the food. It was my first time at Diwan and I would definitely go back because the food is to die for. My friend and I shared the falafel and the the biryani special of the day. And then a carrot halva dessert with yummy Turkish coffee. All were very very good. The staff was very friendly and very professional. A great place to eat...
Beautifully designed restaurant, also fantastic food, lamb burger was great!
Food was very good. Live music was nice, if a touch loud where we were sitting.
Highly recommended! Very tasty, a little bit spicy, big portions and beautiful place just it doesn't have free parking.
Beautiful restaurant, fantastic food and great service.
We came here for winterlicious as we wanted to try their menu. I'm so disappointed at myself for not coming to this beautiful restaurant sooner! everything we order were so delicious and good. our waiter helped us to pick the food we liked and he knew the history behind each plate and drink. cant say enough how much I enjoyed this place and cant wait to go back
Dine in
Very nice place good treatment for customers very nice treatment and friendly. Ok
Enjoyed our lunch. Nice place
Really disappointed in the food! It is bland and not what one would expect.
I'm not used to these flavours but the food was well cooked, the drinks were okay. Service was so-so. It was a little expensive for a lunch. A different experience but probably not one I will repeat any time soon. Worth a visit at least once.
I would have given Diwan 5 stars if our experience was better. We attended the Aga Khan Museum on Family Day then stopped over the restaurant for a bite to eat. We were the first one in the museum building. The lady at the restaurant desk could have told us that we need to make reservations. Because if you dont, there will be a great wait for seating. After touring the whole museum we came back and ready to eat, only to hear we have to wait 40 mins because we didnt have a res and others did. No one told us we needed one when we were there in the first place. Anyways, we browsed the over priced gift shop for 45 mins then our table was ready. At the restaurant everything took forever and a half to come to us. The waiter forgot about us, then at one point he forgot our food while we sat puzzled looking around lol. We were annoyed but just made fun with the situation. The food however, was tasty and the mocktails were superb. Also the coffee and tea were bursting with flavour followed by a wonderful strong aroma. The atmosphere was buzzing with chatter from the people's experience about the museum and the view from the windows were perfect with plenty of sunlight coming in and the decor in the ceiling and side panels were a work of art themselves. I guess due to family day some staff were missing and caused havoc in the kitchen. Perhaps we will come another time when they're not so busy to get a full experience without interruptions.
Phenomenal experience at Diwan, Aga Khan! I went there with family & we had great time. The food was perfect and the ambience was amazing. The staff was very attentive, they were always there to make sure you are being looked after. We ordered Lamb samosas which were just perfect, Fatoush Salad which had a very pleasant sweet grapes in it, lamb shanks which were just perfect & its presentation was 10/10. We also had salmon kabab with extra Rice which were just out of this world, along with chicken boti wrap all done perfectly. In desert we had mango sorbet and carrot halwa cake which were just too good. I highly recommend this Restaurant for your fine dining.
Just a fantastic experience this mother's day. Made a last-minute reservations for two on opentable. Having never been before wasn't sure what to expect but from the service to the food, everything was great. The location itself is easy to get to, and the restaurant is an amazing mix of old and new. Our server was prompt and knowledgeable about the food. His suggestions were great. The food was the real winner. We had the short-rib flatbread and the salmon eggs benny, plus some appetizers (onions and fries). Felt very satisfied and full after. Would return in a heartbeat.
Food was great; lentil soup, beef and lamb burger. Professional staff.
My friend and I had a very good experience here. The decor is beautiful, and the atmosphere is great as well. You can sit at the patio too but you have to reserve that from beforehand. The service was good as well. Our server was Katrina who was really nice and friendly. We did the summerlicious menu. My appetizer was the avocado grapefruit salad which was super fresh and tasty. I had the Lamb Biryani for entre and omg it was really delicious. I loved the flavours and the lamb was soft and tender. I also ordered the Tukish coffee which is my favourite type of coffee. Overall, would definitely recommend. I would suggest taking the entire family there as there's tons of outdoor space for the kids to run around.
Excellent middle Eastern cuisine. Spectacular venue.
Great food at this unique little dining experience inside the museum. Staff was friendly and prices were reasonable.
One of the finest dining experiences I can recall in years. My wife and I went here for Winterlicious and the food was spectacular. There was a braised beef appetizer that was so incredibly full of flavour. I had the Bandari Chicken which was beautiful and then a Caramel Fruitcake dessert which tasted more like chocolate - it was so good. The servers were extremely professional and polite in spite of a very busy time of day. The restaurant is decorated with 17th century panels from a home in Damascus. They were just beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. My only disappointment was that we had no time to visit the museum itself that day.
Beautiful setting and great atmosphere on Valentine's day. Live clarinet player and a huge 5 course meal was great value. The dishes were very unique and the braised lamb shank was outstanding. However the swordfish skewer as part of the salad was under cooked.
If only I could give zero.
The food was delicious and the service was great. Both of our meals were super flavourful and filling. They didn't have any of the fresh juices upon our visit but we tried the mango lassi. There's $10 parking at the Aga Khan museum. The patio is spacious and very distant from other tables. All covid protocols seem to be met as well.
Really great evening at Diwan. The food was absolutely delicious and the service is wonderful. We went to celebrate a birthday party with a group of 12 people and the evening went perfectly well. I would recommend Diwan to anyone who's looking to have a great dinner date or a group celebration.
We had such an amazing meal here! The flavors were unreal -- super creative, well-balanced, and amazingly tasty! The fattoush salad, gazpacho, and hummus were particularly delightful. Our server Zaira was an absolute ray of sunshine too! Can't wait to come back!
This is an amazing restaurant, great food, great service, the decor is amazing!!! Definitely 5 star all the way!!
Went there for a late lunch and decided to take the family out. I ordered a lot of different dishes that were recommended prior to dining in. The service was great, friendly staff, extremely professional. The plating for each meal was excellent! Neatly presented with a sense to impress the customer. The beef poutine had to be one of the top 5 I've ever eaten. The lamb shank fell right off the bone. Wish I ordered the rice along with it. The beef fensenjen was good but I found it overwhelming in onions. This happened to be a favorite of my parents, personally I enjoy a more complex pallette, nonetheless, a great meal. All the starters were worthy of recommendations. I hope the pictures do justice.
Excellent service. We moved from the patio to the inside then back to the patio plus added 2 guests for desert and they gracefully accommodated. Lovely decor. Menu has interesting options all of which tasted good. Lamb poutine, vegetable somasos, chicken Tikka were all very good. Nice hidden gem.
Great south-asian fusion options on the menu. Definitely pricy however worth it for once in a while. Customer service is always superb and willing to accommodate different preferences. I would love to see an affordable “on the go” menu.
Great atmosphere and service. Everything is fresh and their patio is gorgeous. But their food is just kind of good... and not great. I mean they sound really interesting from the menu, but once you taste the food it's not all that exciting.

Way too over priced for quality and portion of food you get. Spent $450+ and everyone went home hungry. We were 5 people who don't eat alot. Environment and museum grounds are beautiful.
The juiciest chicken we had in a while. A flavorful meal with essence of various cultures. "Persian" is too narrow a description for this restaurant. Worth the money spent.
This review is based on the 2018 Summerlicious menu. The food was delicious! But the portion amount was very small. We ordered the Cornish hen and the Coriander Salman. The Cornish hen was half a chicken with Biryani and was very filling but moderately portioned. The Salmon Coriander, was delicious but was a very small amount. I mean it was not even a kids meal amount. Usually the fish is the biggest plate you get in other restaurants but here it was maybe 4 inches. Not worth the value. The carrot halva was very light and filling and made for nice end to the meal. Very impressed by the flavors incorporated into the foods, not impressed by the portions.
Good food, nice staff
it's 12 pm and no one is answering the phone. Need a reservation.
We came from Montreal as a group and they were able to accommodate us with our planning. The service was fast the waitress was exceptional and the food was delicious!
Excellent Food, very unique flavor and experience, flavored drinks are fantastic, it is reasonably priced for the quality of food they offer. Delicious food! A must go place!
Beautiful venue, make reservations to get a window seat. The view is serene, it's an oasis in the city. Food has great and intense flavours- had the raw salmon with capers + frisee - delicious, would have it again, too bad serving is small. The babaganoush is creamy and very tasty, definitely would have again. Poutine was a seasonal item during the Moon exhibit. It has rich flavors with the sumac and is a sharing item. Service is attentive without being intrusive ????.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch - the food was delicious and the service was excellent !
Came here with friends for summerlicious. Great place with yummy food. After lunch, we got to take pictures outside as well as touring the museum :) ps: their water cups are slanted and supposed to be art, but they are easily spilled :(
Delicious food and gorgeous decor! Lots of vegetarian and some vegan options. Great service.
Really delicious, good service, parking is ten bucks tho.
Great food, great service, but I'm a scrawny white kid and the food is too spicy for me, I'm going to die, my internals are on fire.
Beautiful location and great service. Food was good but nothing spectacular like the reviews made us believe
Went there for lunch. The grilled octopus with chickpeas were awesome.
Delicious spicy and authentic cuisine. We will be back!
I really liked this as a way to finish my museum visit & I would definitely return just for the restaurant. They have vegetarian options & the falafel wrap was fantastic, tasty & well-presented. I had a very nice red wine as well. We were there for an early dinner & the service was ridiculously fast! Staff knew the menu & flavours well. And the outdoor patio was so calm & relaxing.
Had an amazing time dining here. Food is amazing, service is great, and the atmosphere is just impeccable. Highly recommend everyone to try this exquisite experience.
I like their winterlicious brunch so much owing to not only their great services but their delicious food. The waiter has mentioned multiple times to eunsure us knowing that the beef soup was spicy, and it tasted incredibly great. I love their date cake as dessert, thats really special and makes me home feeling.
Food was amazing as always.. service started out really well, but we found that after the meal was done it took much too long for the server to come with the dessert menu. Also, would be nice if there were some kid-friendly options. And maybe less expensive ice cream?? Honestly, $8 for a scoop of sorbet or vanilla ice cream is ridiculous.
Beautiful surroundings, excellent food and service. Lunch starters were a bit high priced, but none the less great tasting - would definitely return for dinner.
Had a fantastic experience at Diwan - attended a special event hosted by the museum with food from Diwan. The service provided by the restaurant staff was beyong amazing - Manager - Diego is super hand on and ensured everything was served on time. Kat - our server was very attentive and helpful. And the food was all delicious. Thank you to the Diwan team for a very memorable lunch!
Good food and service, prices are not bad either but I got very upset when I saw a $7 water bottle on my receipt. After asking for the drinks (we got 2 beers) the server asked "And the water? Still? Sparkling?" even though we never mentioned water, so I was led to believe that it might have been complimentary. 7 dollars for a bottle of still water (plus tax, so basically 8 dollars) that we did not even ask for...I felt robbed.
My wife and I dined here as part of a small engagement party 8-29-21. Although busy and fairly noisy (which I don't mind), the service was prompt, staff was pleasant and food delicious! I eat a lot of salmon but theirs was especially tasty, the sauce was amazing - it might have been mango and/or mustard flavoured. The chef even popped out an graciously greeted us!
I'm not sure what the prices are normally, but I came here for winterlicious and I thought it was so worth it! First of all, the decor is just stunning. It's has high ceilings, and a minimalistic style with some Arabic art mixed in, that makes the place look so unique and gorgeous. The place was a little bit busy, so the service was a little bit slow, but it was okay for me. My boyfriend and I ordered different things so we could try a variety of their food, and every single dish was so flavorful! I really enjoy spiced food, so I thoroughly enjoyed eating at this place. The halwa carrot cake was so good, probably my favorite thing there. I will definitely be coming back here, and probably spend an afternoon at the museum as well.
Food was great beautiful view
Really enjoyed the food there, flavors are very good & staff is nice. But we found the lamb shank is a bit small for $38 and regret you have to pay $10 parking on top of it. So end up being a bit expensive if you don't plan to visit the museum..
(Translated) Great food! Amazon Of space. (Original) Great food! Amazon Ng space.
Great food, and great customer service.
Good quality Middle Eastern, South Asian, and North African Cuisines served in a great ambience and atmosphere. The staff are friendly and make great recommendations. This restaurant is highly recommended
Very nice restaurant, we had a great time on the patio, very good food and amazing staff
It is a restaurant within the newly finished Aga Khan Museum. Even through the museum admission to the exhibit is extra, you get to see the inside of the museum building for free. After lunch, they don't open for dinner, you can walk to the next building which is the Ismaili center. They offered a free tour while we were there. We were there in the fall. I'm sure the garden is much nicer in the spring and summer. The food was generally excellent. The special juice is nothing really special. Expect portions for lunch more like dinner size. Excellent dessert menu. I am not a chocolate fan and I'm so glad to finally see a dessert menu without any chocolate at all. A unique feature of the restaurant is it's at a corner of a building with floor to ceiling glass window making it very bright and cheerful.
Been here a few times. The food is great and the cocktails are hit or miss. The menu has a desi vibe. iykyk. Their lamb is fantastic. I've never managed to get a photo because i have no self control and start eating it as soon as its placed in front of me. Their patio is stunning in the summer, you're right by the DVP but you can't hear it. I'd recommend you make a day of it and also visit the Aga Khan Museum!
We had sea bass (which was quite dry and not tasty), short ribs (yummy) and lamb shank (quite good). For dessert it was cheesecake and carrot cake, both delicious. They have live music on Wednesday nights.
Beautiful decor. Food was over priced and definitely not worth the cost. I loved the crisp manakeesh and the warm olives but the Manti and the peri peri chicken was not worth the price at all. The peri peri chicken at nandos is better and one third the price. Something we ate gave us all a stomach ache as well. Not enjoying the affect on my wallet or my stomach.
Great flavour and presentation. Lamb shank was a bit salty. Loved the shareable dishes. Friendly service, tasty and unique cocktails.
Delicious @ Winterlicious2020
Food was fantastic. Salmon was cooked perfectly.
Had a company dinner event held here and the food and atmosphere was amazing. Everything from appetizers to mains to dessert was made very well.
(Translated) Refined, tasty and varied cuisine. Impeccable service. (Original) Cuisine raffinée, savoureuse et variée. Service impeccable.
One of the fine dining experience. The food is made with fine taste. The fusion are incredibly amazing. The ambiance was good, serving staff were kind and knew their game. Desserts needs a bit more improvement, especially the rice pudding. My disappointment was the summerlicious menu, it restricts the options and cannot try other options.
Everything was a great experience. Everyone was friendly and the food was amazing. The lamb shank I had was cooked to perfection.
Excellent today
Great menu. Great location for lunch.
Nice place staff so polite and friendly
Delicious. Nice atmosphere, excellent service. We had the taboule salad, lamb burger, lamb samosas and falafel wrap - all very tasty. Lots of shade with big umbrellas.
Tasty food and located in the Aga Khan. Diwan is a great restaurant. Would love to go again sometime. Went for a family event in pre-COVID times.
Very limited items on the menu & need to add Children's menu. Good for appetizers.
Came for Summerlicious. Amazing food and service. Environment is gorgrous. Coming back again in a few days!
(Translated) Spectacular hotel. (Original) Espectacular hotel.
I think this restaurant is just alright, nothing special. My bf is middle eastern and even he thinks the food just alright.
James the server is on point, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the dessert so delicious.
Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff, delicious food. Came here for an early dinner - though the patio was closed for winter (had been hoping for heaters), dining inside was cozy and comfortable (they checked for double vaccination and all staff were masked). Wife and I had the tandoori chicken tacos to start, beef shank special (with a delicious lentil couscous with pomegranate) and the shrimp kebab entrees. Portions were generous and we both loved our choices (my wife loved the rice that came with the shrimp kebab). We also ordered a mango lassi and a cactus pear-lychee juice, both of which were very refreshing, and not too sweet. Given the amount and quality of food we ordered and the lovely setting, the bill came in as pretty reasonable as well. We will be back, especially in the summer to enjoy the patio!
I went with a group for lunch for Winterlicious. The food was tasty, the service was good and the restaurant decor was beautiful
The ambience of the restaurant is amazing and their food is absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place to everyone!
Great experience at Diwan! The cocktails were refreshing and the lamb shank was so tender it fell off the bone! Good service and beautiful interiors. The set menu is the way to go. Overall great experience!!
Love it. Really tasty food, beautifully cooked and served. The staff is also very friendly. Everything about the Aga Khan Museum is thoughtfully done. Thanks.
Beautiful through and through. Food was superb, decor and surroundings were beautiful and noteworthy, and staff were excellent. The grounds are gorgeous as well and lovely for a gentle walk after lunch.
EXCELLENT FOOD , EXCELLENT SERVICE ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? AND STAFF, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I went there with my family for my mom's birthday lunch on a Saturday. They had the summerlicious menu which was really awesome. We all liked the selection and everything tasted great! People would argue that you can find cheaper indian/persian food elsewhere but its the dining experience that you are paying for and it is worth it. I am a foodie so really appreciated the blend of flavors and ingredients. The appetizer koftas were so tender and delicious. The restaurant is really bright so makes an amazing spot for food photographers/instagramers :)
Excellent in all aspects From the food experience to the professional staff.
A real oasis in a big city. Wonderful surroundings like shimmering pools with an elegant ethnic subdued interior. Friendly servers. They are only open for Lunch which is a pity. Menu a little limited but does have seasonal changes
Everything was so tasty!
Amazing Ambiance, Food, & Service.
Nice restaurant inside the museum serving middle eastern and south Asian food. Would definitely recommend it.
One of the best restaurants in town. Definitely the best eastern one.
Looking for a good-looking patio or a restaurant to dine in? As phase 3 in Toronto is about to start on #friday @diwantoronto at @agakhanmuseum is a unique option. Won’t find many posts about this place. Went for brunch and really enjoyed it. The food is well prepared and tasty. Enjoy the pictures of the crispy lamb samosas, shrimp cocktail with an amazing salad and chicken bandari.
Good food. Costly.
Went here for Summerlicious 2019! The food was delicious and the menu was reasonably priced as well.
Amazing food.
Had a great lunch here recently on the Patio. The COVID-19 measures were stringent and I felt very comfortable with their high level of sanitation. The food was great, but pricey (16$ for 3 shrimp in the shrimp cocktail) which is to be expected. The only thing I wish was that the museum parking was a bit cheaper, it was around 10$ flat rate I believe.
I loved the restaurant's decor.. but I didn't like the ingredients of the dishes
The lentil soup appetizer is really good!!
Delicious and great ambiance that adds to your experience at the museum.
We recently had a wedding reception at Diwan Restaurant and everything from the food, stunning location, and staff made it one of the best experiences. Specifically the wonderful staff, including Diego the restaurant manager, who worked with us tirelessly to not only accommodate all our needs, but to go above and beyond to ensure we have a great time. Our guests gave rave reviews about the food and location, including the 3 course sit down meals, take away snack boxes, different cocktails, restaurant decor, and stunning views. Thank you to the staff at Diwan, but a Big Big Thank You to Diego for your great personality, professionalism, kindness, and great energy. I would highly recommend this to anyone for an event, or just a nice place to have meal.
The ambience is out of this world. The food is delicious and exquisitely prepared. A must go to place.
Service
The food was good and the service was exceptional. Too bad the outdoor patio was a bit noisy because it's close to the Don Valley. Also you have to pay $10 for parking but I guess this goes to support the museum. One other suggestion would be for them to provide more unique desserts. Currently there are only two desserts which aren't really middle eastern and sorbet /ice cream.
This is a Mark McEwan restaurant and the food is wonderful. The service is the same - first class.
Very tasty food and very nice environment. In Aga Khan museum.
Great food and good tea recommend the lamb shanks
Good food, reasonable value, and excellent service/decor. Cocktails were unique and interesting. Would recommend as something different and out of the ordinary. Underground parking and access to museum also a plus.
The food portions were small in relation to the expensive prices. It didn't taste well either. Terrible in all. You could get better food at McDonald's.
Diwan offers a interesting menu with a touch of tasty flairs from certain parts of the world. Place is located in a very nice facility (Aga Khan Museum) and could be considered as a convenient location to get to either by a car or by public transit. Overall the atmosphere is great, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Price can be considered somewhat “expensive”, and I am guessing you’re paying for the nice atmosphere and the presentation. Although the restaurant appears to be carefully decorated, but it is clearly visible that the furnitures were not a priority as a part of the decoration (there are rips and stain on the chairs). While some of the menu items are certainly worth trying, but some others are very generic items that can be purchased at a much less price point almost anywhere else (i.e. $18 for Biriyani, $8 for a Samosa).
Extremely tasty
Very flavourful. Of the dishes served, the flavours were authentic and delectable. A tad pricey for the portions, but worth the experience. Service is professional and attentive. Great date night.
Samosas are delicious. Mocktails are delicious. Food is good. The interior is beautiful. The service needs some attention. If the restaurant is open for dining, then the bar should be fully stocked and operational, which was not the case
Service was great. The food was awesome.
Excellent service, delicious food, awesome flavors with a an amazing mixture of spices, reasonably priced, great patio. Highly recommended, will return for sure.
Fresh, fresh, fresh! We went for lunch and discovered a great dining spot that reminded me of the former restaurant at the AGO before its Frank Gehry transformation. Diwan's dining room is spacious with modern styled furnishings. Antique carved polychromed wood with mirror panels cover portions of the restaurant. Outdoor dining is available seasonally. The menu is from the ubiquitous yet quintessential McEwan brand and while it's not imaginative in its offerings, it's all very fresh, wonderfully seasoned and nicely presented not unlike Kelseys, Milestones or The Keg. My lamb samosas and fattoush salad were delicious and I'm not a fan of lamb. The onion bhaji and shrimps with pomegranate seeds were well portioned. A few items detracted our first experience at Diwan: an unsightly coat rack greets patrons at the entrance to the restaurant, restrooms are located an elevator ride to the parking level below and stained fabric on the dining chairs should be addressed. The decorator should know better. Same level restrooms are available beside the coat check on the far side of the museum. The museum also has a bistro available to visitors on the main level with leather covered seating (hint, hint), but please purchase a commercial espresso machine. Diwan is definitely worth a visit for the food! Pay parking available.
Interesting venue for summerlicious. The food was delicious. I am not sure the prices would be good outside the summerlicious festival. $9 for parking is cheeky especially when asking a further $25 to tour the museum.
Excellent flavours and with the various food choices. Samosas are a must and the chicken tikka platter was fabulous. The patio setting outside the museum is gorgeous in the warmer (May - Sep) months. Service A+
Great staff and great place to be
This was the eighth time at Diwan. Soooo disappointed with the food on Feb. 13,2020. Soup firey spice but still tasteless, unable to eat it. Chicken was just okay with over cooked couscous. Dessert of date cake was tasteless and only about 3 mouthfuls. High price for very mediocre food. Disappointing from past experiences there. Not sure we will return. Seemed like a complete rip off. Good thing thing they have the museum and lovely grounds to attract visitors.
The ambiance was amazing.. and the service was nice and friendly. The food was good as well. However, the food took FOREVER to come out. I'm not sure if it's because we had a party of 12 but our lunch became a 3 hour event largely because we were waiting for the food for so long! we even went out to enjoy the scenary because it was taking so long.
Best
As always, the food was amazing. The set up looked gorgeous. The staff was run off its feet because of the event, and the service was still great. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
The food was very good but the service was rushed.
Place was awesome and food so authentic. My server Kelly was amazing and so nice. Thank you
Totally worth it!!
Great starters! Lots of spices and unique flavors. A bit pricy and the deserts we tried were okay (Halva cake & rice pudding).
Had lunch there when visiting the Aga Khan Centre
Special thanks to Diego DeMatos for helping me to host a donor's lunch for the benefit of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance Canada. It happened to be a perfect day to be at Diwan with large windows overlooking the Ismaili Centre and the Aga Khan Park. It was a sight to remember in the backdrop of fall colours. Diego and his team opened early to serve a rather large party of 45 pax. No details spared in servicing my guests. Being a vegetarian, I liked Sweet Pea Falafel, which was served at the right temperature. The coriander crusted salmon looked temptations! The staff was extremely polite and well versed in hosting a large party. Diego went out of his way to accommodate a few extra-ordinary requests. Thank you and i look forward hosting another event soon.
It is very unique and seren. Beautiful atmosphere. Diwan restaurant food is amazing and so is the decor. Visit is a must when in Toronto.
Great place and great food
Great service great food! Can't wait to go back again.
Food and service are always good, but they got rid of the Biryani! They had THE BEST biryani I've ever been served in a restaurant. I had it there twice, but the third time I went, they no longer carried it. Very disappointing, but service and food still overall good.
Very beautiful location
Excellent food and service. Spacious patio.
It was a pleasant experience. Service and food were excellent. Good value for money.
Excellent food and ambience
Visited Diwan during winterliciois, overall the food was mediocre, nothing spectacular. But then again what are often offered on winterlicious menus are subpar than their regular offerings. The saffron rice was good tho. Worth trying.
This is a first class restaurant with utterly fantastic food. Roomy. Lots of space between tables, so you never hear a neighbour's conversations. Great service. James is just amazing, ask for a table that he serves!! Nice outside views, too. A truly wonderful experience, you will love it. I did!
Good food
Love this place. A hidden gem. The food was delectable and the service extraordinary. James our server was astute and ensured our dining experience was impeccable. Will be there again soon.
That was the best restaurant experience from all aspects. I do suggest everyone to try their foods and services. Really go one place.
Very interesting collections presented beautifully. Great restaurant, Diwan, ON site.
Great food. High quality professional staff and great ambience.
Awesome lunch on July 1, 2020. Will come back again.
Good food l like Thanks....
Came here for lunch with a friend while Summerlicious was on and had the hummus, chicken and the carrot cake. The hummus with eggplant was really good that I forgot to take a picture. I guess I was a little hungry as well. The chicken was okay. It wasn't spectacular but the flavours were good. It was just that the chicken was a bit dry. The carrot cake ended the meal nicely. It wasn't your traditional carrot cake. This one felt light and airy and had more of a cupcake texture. It was delicious. I may just have three of these for the app, main and dessert next time. Haha. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. The only thing that could be improved upon is a bit faster service but we weren't in a hurry so all is good.
The food is so flavorful that I want to keep going back. It is a bit pricey but so totally worth it for an occasional day out. The beautiful restaurant and patio are a cherry on top.
Good coffee and good view.
Absolutely amazing cuisine. Not for the budget concious, but worth a visit for special occasions or people in your life.
A bit pricey for the quality of dishes. The service is average. The food is good but not gourmet good. The decor is simple and elegant. Bright and airy atmosphere is good for any occasion. The parking is flat rate of $10.
very good food and hospitality
Amazing location, beautiful ambiance, great presentation of food, and delicious food. My kids even like biryani and falafel.
This was my first experience at the restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything was at the right temperature, quality was great and everyone at our table (14) were served at the same time. Also, the outdoor premises was very pictoresque, perfect for picture takers.
I was looking forward to eating here. The food is not Persian by any means and the staff do not act professionally. While the food at various galleries in Toronto galleries and museums are not phenomenon but they're generally pretty good, not diwan. I hope for a revamp.
It's located in the Aga Khan Museum on Wynford drive. I think you basically have to drive, it's in the middle of nowhere. i'm not even sure if a bus goes by, if it does it's limited. Also, no one says this, but you are forced to pay $10 to park there, so make sure to factor that into your budget if you are coming. Carpool. The place is real nice! It's clean and simple. There are floor to ceiling windows so it's nice and bright. The walls and ceilings are decorated with 19th century carved wooden panels from Damascus. There's a poem in arabic written across the panels. Nice So what do I think? Food was great. Wait staff amazing, Want to try out their weekend patio specials. Miffed off that I had to pay for parking in the middle of nowhere. Food was good. would only go back if someone else drove and paid for parking. ( not sure why this is bothering me so much)
During Covid this is a dream place to go. Tables are on a large open patio where there are no pedestrians who constantly walk by you. Food is outstanding. We were there for lunch and would go again despite the drive to north york.
Great food and amazing ambiance!
Went there for lunch with a friend. It was such a beautiful place. The food, service were both amazing. I will definitely go back. One complain I have is paid parking...but I’ll still go back!
It's very good
Was there for a wedding. The food was great, and the patio overlooks the gardens/pools.
We were having a lovely dinner in the lovely Diwan. The waitress was attentive, the service was good. We had our coffee, and then .... The waitress disappeared. Another waitress appeared and got into an altercation with the table next to ours. They started discussing the "a la carte" menu. What "a la carte" menu, I ask. It's on our website, didn't you read the website. No we say, we booked our reservation and came to look at the menu here. Well then you can't have the "a la carte". But, what we ordered would have been cheaper. Well you'll know for next time, not our fault if you are too stupid to look on the website. Still can't pay. Still can't get a second cup of coffee. Still no waitress. Argument ongoing at the next table, and then table behind us starts looking for the waitress. The assistant manager (on duty - no manager) is running around trying to explain what the customers are doing wrong. Not the staff's fault. Policies are reasonable. Could we please pay. Oh that. Sure, wait awhile longer will find someone to bring you the bill. We paid. No Tip!!! Great food, lousy (rude and disrespectful) service. This is not a cheap restaurant. For your money you can eat somewhere that they don't feel obliged to be insult you, and tell you it's the restaurant's policy to insult their customers.
This place has a nice vibe to it. The decor and ambiance reminded me of my home country. Service was good too. Food was okay in taste, not something I'd rave about but definitely a beautiful restaurant. Also a $10 flat parking fee which is kind of a bummer if you are just trying to go to the restaurant and didn't know about it.
Lovely food with exceptional service for the price point.
(Translated) A very distinguished restaurant and respectable workers. The food is very delicious. We took chicken and meat mandi, and its are very tasty. I recommend visiting it. (Original) مطعم متميز جدا وعمال محترمين . الأكل لذيذ جدا اخذنا مندي دجاج ولحم وعريكه لذيذ جدا . انصح بزيارته .
The ambience is amazing; the food is average and the service is very, very poor! There appears to be a general attitude issue amongst all the staff - to be arrogant and give rude, curt replies! Given how prevalent this is, I am not sure if it is part of their training! To think, this place was barely surviving pre-pandemic, one would think they should be going out of their way to please Customers and make it a memorable experience to encourage re-visits! Very sad, the focus on the Customer is sorely missing! They act like they are doing the Customer a favour by hosting them!
Excellent food n service
Excellent service, very flavourful meals.. amazing environment
