I enjoyed a few hours walking through the Gallery, first visit since the pandemic. I particularly enjoyed the works of local artists and reading about their backgrounds and styles. Quite a few videos/animations to compliment the more traditional no tech artworks. Seems the art community would do well making new friends in the IT community haa!

Wonderful art I brought my son to see inside last summer, but most importantly this July 1 we made sure to be apart of the cancel Canada day peaceful protest with speeches and drumming with everyone in orange shirts with a live hip hop performance. Very powerful to be present during this time and thanks for the Vancouver art gallery for allowing this to take place. A vigil was erected on the back of the steps of the gallery and was so sad to see the physical items placed to represent the lost indigenous kids murdered by residential schooling.

It’s a good gallery to go to. Reasonable admission fee. We spent about 2 hours and we were contented. If you like art, then this is a must-see.

One of the best art galleries in the world. Amazing! I understand that much of what I saw was temporary, so I am very glad I was able to enjoy their offerings. The curators are great! I highly recommend going to this gallery. The Canadian works of art were as nice as the foreign art works.

Lovely Art Gallery to spend a few hours in, however the 1st and 4th floor were closed due to maintenance so only the 2nd and 3rd floor were open to the public. So just be aware when you're buying tickets, maybe call ahead before purchasing your tickets.

Not only is this an incredible Art Gallery always full of fascinating and historic art, but it has a gorgeous brand new area in the front of it off of Georgia. You can sit relaxe, even lay down on grassy patches, with the incredible lion statues! It's also a terrific place for groups to gather for their presentations and speeches!

It was a Tuesday night and was busy inside. But the staff were well organized. I enjoyed my time there. Was lucky to get to see art stuff by Yoko Ono. Also was glad they offer by donations on Tuesday after 5pm. ????

Always a great date night place. Always check the site for special events/ exhibitions or free entry. If you're super particular with art curation, I do find that historically, the gallery is not the best at curating watercolour pieces. Other than that, the space is transformative for most mediums! The art gallery also keeps a good private collection which they curate very well alongside any travelling exhibitions that they have.

A nice gallery for Canadian art. The permanent exhibit is small though - definitely go when there is a temporary exhibit that you are interested in, and/or on a Tuesday evening when it's pay-by-donation. Also, I went once in the last days of one of the temporary exhibits only to find that it was closed. Even though the posters advertised that the exhibit would close on a specific date, the gallery staff told us that they often close the temporary exhibit a few days before in order to set up the next exhibit. Keep that in mind when visiting.

Do not waste your time or money here. As someone who loves art and loves galleries I was shocked by how underwhelming it was. I’ve been to art galleries all across the country and the world and I’ve never had a disappointing experience until today. I’m here on a trip and wish I could take back the afternoon I wasted. Not to mention I paid full price entry and only level 2 & 3 were even open. There was also barely any art on display. The security was unnecessarily aggressive as well. All in all a terrible experience. I’ve never felt compelled to write a negative google review before until now.

My wife and are visited the Gallery for the first time in many years. There was an Emily Carr exhibit along with various other local artists. We are trying to expand our Art experience by admiring the various mediums used by the artists. I was not able to relate to a few of the displays though we did enjoy the overall experience. We took out a family membership and look forward to seeing more exhibits.

Perfect to visit on a rainy day. Fairly large collection of contemporary art. Exhibitions change often so you can go back and check it out. Try to walk or take transit since finding parking is difficult and expensive.

The Vancouver Art Gallery continues to present very creative, informative, artistic events …the staff spotlight a wide range of interesting art exhibitions with local, national and worldwide artists.. it’s so easy to move from room to room..this occasion our attention was directed to the Yoko Ono and the From The Earth exhibits…there is always plenty of seating available for reflection..

Very fascinating and diverse artworks in a architecturally stunning building. Really appreciate the inclusion of Asian, indigenous and black artworks. There was also a vigil being held outside for the children who fell victim to residential schools.

After the shock of the admission fee* we delighted in the beautiful exhibits and superb Yoko Ono interactive. A late, wet Monday afternoon low visitor count added to the experience... *we're used to London "voluntary contribution" museum/gallery admission.

I went there on Tuesday night at 5 PM when the time for admission only with donation. This program is every Tuesday 5-8 PM. It was a good experience. At that time the one of the exhibition was John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the first floor. The other exhibitions on the second and third floors were also amazing.

Beautiful art, I had a blast when I came im February. Luckily they check jackets for you so you don't need to walk around with it. Also if you have a chance to check out the gift shop there are many items with the guest artist art on it. Check out my pictures with the colorful art.

Our beloved local gallery continues to be a local institution. They could do more to bring in a wider array of art imo. I love modern and conceptual art for sure, but when the entire gallery is filled with cerebral contemplative pieces and installations it gets a little rote. I felt bad for the kids in there who seemed bored and lost and could not connect with anything in front of their eyes.

$25 admission and the museum is basically empty. Lots and lots of space for each piece. Two of four floors were totally closed out of four and they still charged his full price. Do not waste time here.

On Tuesdays, admission is by donation, so you can come for $5 or more. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance online since entry is timed and also limited. You can buy at the door, but by the time I arrived, they were sold out for the night so they weren't letting people in if they hadn't purchased online. It was raining but the wait outside wasn't long. They provide umbrella bags for your wet umbrellas. There are QR codes for audio portions but for the most part you just walk around I dependently. There were some interactive portions like writing a wish on a card to hang on the leaf of a plant, gluing together string and plate shards, or stamping a map. If you are a fan of John Lennon & Yoko Ono, now would be the time to come since they have a bed-in exhibit. I particularly enjoyed the large mural by James Harry & Lauren Brevner. In terms of accessibility, there were a few places to sit but not everywhere. The washrooms, parkings, and exhibits all seemed to be wheelchair accessible. Everyone was wearing masks and it wasn't overcrowded as the gallery was controlling capacity. It felt like an enjoyable and COVID-safe Tuesday evening activity. Parking downtown is very difficult and there are a lot of one-way roads and construction. We managed to find the cheapest and most convenient parking after 6pm right under Robson Square! The entrance is at Nelson & Howe. Drive up Howe from Georgia towards Nelson. Right before Nelson, on the right side is the parking entrance. It's not super obvious so keep an eye out! It's a flat rate of $6 after 6pm on weekdays. We were late and missed our 5pm timed entrance due to parking, and they kindly let us in after 6:30 regardless of the time of our tickets, which we were quite thankful for. I most enjoyed seeing Emily Carr's works of art in front of me. This isn't as big of a gallery as I was expecting, but that's because some portions were closed off. In that regard, I'm happy to have gone on the donation day. I may not have been as happy with the full price of admission with their current collection size versus other what you can see or do at other paid activities in dowtown Vancouver.

2 stars and I hate to click on it but i was so disappointed by the Art Gallery. The price is so expensive for the little there is to see (only two small floors). 25$ for 30min... Ugh. The Yoko Ono exposition was closed, I don't know if the price included this access when its open... If it's the case, fine, but it would have been cool to be advised or the price being revised. If not, I think it's too expensive if I compare with other museums I've done all around the world. ???? Otherwise, staff was kind!

Any review of art is subjective, of course but I was a bit underwhelmed with this gallery for the price of admission - it seems to lack permanent collection exhibits. Many of the galleries on Granville island were more engaging. There was an Emily Carr exhibit (along with Heath ceramics) that was cool, but if the other exhibits don't speak to you you can get through the entire place in under 60 minutes. Definitely check their website for what's on before going.

A lovely art gallery in downtown Vancouver! They keep the place very clean and open with limited number of visits per day and time slot, making it very safe to visit during COVID. I truly enjoyed my visit here.

Beautiful place to spend an afternoon. I would highly recommend getting a membership as you not only get unlimited free admission to the gallery, but also 2 free guest passes and discounts at the gift shop. For only a bit more money, it is totally worth it. One little thing though that I found slightly annoying was that the escalator going to the third floor was really squeaky and interfered a little bit with the enjoyment of the art. Other than that, the gallery is very well maintained and the exhibits are always beautiful and engaging!

Always recommend visiting the Gallery on a Tuesday when you are looking for something to do. There are always some great exhibits and the entry is free on Tuesday. The staff are quite helpful as well. I really feel that the Gallery doesn’t get enough credit.

Many art galleries in Canada have turned into big businesses intent on making as much money out of an exhibition as possible. Vancouver Art Gallery uses its clout and location to bring in exhibitions that attract larger crowds to ensure a larger income. The entrance fee at 25 dollars is outrageous, even more so because the exhibition space is not large enough to justify it and what's on exhibit, even less so. While there are price incentives for locals, such as becoming members, visitors from out of town are left with little choice but to pay the full price of admission. I don't regret visiting, but I expected better.

The gallery itself isn't incredible compared to great art galleries in Paris, the National Gallery in London or Viennas Museumsquartier, but the architecture of the building ist fine and the atmosphere around is great. I highly recommend to visit in spring or summer to enjoy coffee in the beautiful area in the front of the building!

I really love the amount of thought that goes into the curation of pieces. It's clear that the layout of the gallery and content of each exhibit are carefully considered when designing for movement through the spaces.

Got my membership recently and went to the exhibition by Sun Xun - Mythological Time and Rebellious Bone, a young Chinese artist. The collections are from diversified artists. Arts from another talented Chinese artist, Gu Xiong, were displayed as well. Love the First Nation carvings. Good place to spend time if you are into arts.

Cowessess residential school that I went to.... Had the most beloved , not forgotten babies that were found in Canada that is...751 ....that is a horrific number......
