Prime Berth Fishing Museum is a wonderful place to see the recent history of the Newfoundland fishing industry. Run by a fisherman who is still active in the industry, you will experience the trials of the fishermen who pulled the lobster, snow crab, and northern cod from the shallow banks off Newfoundland, living in tiny villages on the coast. Captain Dave still makes a living from crab fishing plus the museum, but the industry is nearly defunct due to the depredations of the foreign ships that scooped up cod from the spawning grounds for years. The fish are coming back, since the closing of the commercial fishery in 1992 but the recovery is slow. This is history that isn't coming back, and I highly recommend it to you so you can know what happens when commercial interests take complete control of a resource.

We arrived an hour before closing and it was closed, however a staff member saw the 4 of us and another family in the parking lot and graciously unlocked the entrance for us and said we could go through the site.
