REVIEWS OF Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse IN Newfoundland and Labrador

Zane Newton

Amazing views and even a guided tour that explains some of the history here. It's worth the drive just to soak in the views alone. I travelled all the way here from Austin, TX and still can't wait to come back. The view of the Ocean stretches on as far as the eye can see, and the historic feel of the lighthouse is beyond incredible. There are a number of informative placards scattered about that tell of the rich history of the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, and even explains the signaling methods used by the lighthouse operator to help ships avoid running ashore into the rocky outcroppings below. Before there was radio communication there had to be a very precise method of communication to ensure the safety of the sea-faring captains. I'd rate this experience 10 stars if it were possible!

Jaime Lee

Amazing scenery here! The tidal are great fun to explore. We arrived early so the guide that's usually here wasn't available. I think I would have learned a lot about the complex ecosystem that can be seen here.

Carol Faust

Cute displays inside but be sure and take trail around lighthouse to see views. Easy walk. Can go a little further to see even more. Be sure to walk to the viewpoint of the water.

RUSSELL HENNINGER SR

This is an amazing Lighthouse and the History that goes with it. Cedric the Canadian tour guide broke down how lighthouse Keepers worked in periodic time frames at the lighthouse. Definitely take in all Trails as they short and give breathtaking views

Fascinating stories told by Ranger.

This lighthouse is quite famous for the sunset pictures. You can see photographers flocking the place right before sunset. There are lots of walking trails around this place for all levels which you can enjoy. There are interpreters around this place who can guide you about the place and it's history.

Derrick Law

Excellent exhibits and super knowledgeable interpreters. Unfortunate that the tower is inaccessible, but it is after all, a functioning lighthouse operated by the coast guard. Nice paths around the property with amazing views.

Jem Rey

Beautifil place and awesome view

TZgamingX

It's the best place on earth love it

K Berg

Parks Canada staff was on site to explain all about the lighthouse and local history - they even were able to do a quick spiel on the Tablelands which was awesome since that trail had no Parks staff at it that day.

We were lucky enough to be able to get in on a tour with a Parks Canada guide on the day we visited. The historical significance of the lighthouse and the role it played in the lives of the people in the surrounding area was fascinating. …

Kate Isgreat

Awesome place to check out the ocean views, catch the sunset and take a walk. The hill is steep but everything is well maintained and the cliffside is fenced off for safety. …

John Van Hal

A very nice place to spend a few hours. There are many trails to hike, some lead down to the ocean.

Robert

Beautiful sunsets Part of Gros Morne National Park

K Anstey

One of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. Beautiful spot. My kids and I went there in early May when it was still quite cold, but it was still fantastic. I imagine that it would be even better in warmer weather.

You can go to through the lighthouse but can't go up to the top. Good history of the light house keeper and how government treated their workers. Hard work to keep the lighthouse going. No gift shop here. Beautiful scenery and very good picnic area with tables. Guide is humorous and very informative.

Bryan Vanderkruk

Very cool spot. Has some neat history of the family that tender the lighthouse for decades,. And how lighthouses work generally. The trails around the property are great too, as are the views of the surrounding area. Be sure to head down to the shore and check out the #driftwoodshelternfld !

Nadine Robinson

Delores Mackey

Showed some friends our gem of a lighthouse with some of the mist spectacular sunsets.

Dmitry Pyryeskin

Historic lighthouse with an interesting guided tour and great views of the bay. There's also a couple of short hikes nearby.

Phil Rendell

Beautiful views/trails, my only complaint would be that the parking lot is a bit tight. During the busy tourism season and it's hard to find parking. If busses are there as well its practically impossible to manoeuvre the parking lot.

Lacy Sereduk

Showed up just in time for the tide pool tour. Short little walk to the beach after a brief instruction. The guide was awesome! Loud enough for those in the back to hear him clearly and he did a great job of explaining what kind ocean life …

Leonmary Brubaker

You were allowed to circle the lighthouse for great photo shots.

Even in the off season, dressed with appropiate clothes and footwear the visit makes for a pleasant and relaxing day out.

Robert White

I didn't take the tour within the lighthouse but the trails around the property takes you to a great vantage point where you can see Northern Gannets diving for fish. The area also has picnic tables where you can eat lunch before traveling further North. I love this spot.

Ruxandra Dranga

Interesting historical information. Good and relatively easy walk-paths around the lighthouse. Exceptional view of the ocean.

Jocelyn Parlee

Beautiful spot to visit and watch the sunset. The lighthouse closes early @ 5:30pm

Jean-Francois Dupont

Fantastic for the rocks

LeeAnn Denischuk

A lovely lighthouse and a beautiful view of Rocky Harbour.

Jon Smith

Very scenic area perched on a small cliff over the surrounding ocean. Comes with an interesting museum that explains the life of the people who lived around the area and the utility of the lighthouse. There are also trails that take you though the woods down to the bottom of the cliffs.

Jessica

Good interpretation center. Did not cost anything to enter building. Note you cannot go to the top of light house. Several very small hilly trails to explore and find a garden and look outs

Terence Hale

Lighthouse was closed but the grounds were nice to walk around.

Mr Lofty

Lovely museum about the life of an old lighthouse that's still operating, great displays, friendly staff, (but then everyone in Newfoundland is friendly). There's also a nice walk down through the windblown scrub trees to a rocky cove, very nice place to visit. Plus the toilet block in the car park is clean :)

Erika Martin

we used our Stoller on the trails but I would definitely not call them stroller friendly LOL. beautiful spot though

Eric McCormack

Ruggedly beautiful setting on Newfoundland`s Northwest coast looking into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The lighthouse itself is very beautiful, but when coupled with the amazing NL sunset it is beyond any expectations.

Bryan Russell

Our boy found a crow carcass to poke at (the highlight of his vacation) but his mother and I were charmed by beautiful seascapes and walking trails bordered with wild strawberries.

Davis D. Janowski

A gorgeous spot, easy to get to, with an informative bit of history on what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper. If you have not yet been north it gives you a good sense of just how rugged Newfoundland can be. Bear Cove also offers a lot of amenities that will be a bit more sparse going north.

John Bowers

Worth a stop by if you're in the area.

Mike Benoit

Quaint but the beach area is much nicer

Mary Bullard

Felt like we were on top of the world! Incredible 300 ° Views!!! Wow!

Nice views ,cool trails, but I was not able to get a great shot of the lighthouse

Michael E

What a wonderful piece of History it's an amazing site just to visit and walk around but if you get a chance definitely take one of the chores done by Parks Canada where they give you the entire history of the lighthouse you will learn so much not only about it but about the history of Newfoundland and shipping and fishing and all the boats that have been a staple of newfoundland's economy

Aidan Leach

Pretty incredible history and story. Lovely ‘quick’ stop with some easy walking trails along the coast to stretch your legs. Trails can get a bit boggy after a rain so wear appropriate footwear for the conditions!
