This is a quite good place to discover how people lived 400 years ago! You have almost all information on the map. Only self guided tour available due to Covid.

The best historical place we've been in Ontario! Thanks to Sainte-Marie's team and all volunteers who recreated this place and keep its spirit and unique beauty.

It's quiet and clean. Brilliant video prior to exploring the village, which eventually directly immerses you into your journey. Loved that the village felt lived in and there are people in costume to give you a realistic view of life here during settlement. You might even get to try an old technique! Upon exiting, there is a quaint bistro before the museum entrance, with a patio overlooking the village. DO NOT SKIP THE MUSEUM! Legitimately the most beautiful museum I've ever seen. Lighting like rays of sun through trees, a pond, and a skylight. Wood organically surrounds you. You'll forget you're inside!

This is the best museum/historical site with the most to view. It will take the longest to get through as well. Plan for a longer day with good shoes... it's worth the trip :) I will plan to eat elsewhere though because as a family of 8, we can't afford those kind of prices. Not a great restaurant for families... maybe a date night where you aren't concerned about the cost.

We attended First Light. It was amazing, there was so much to see and do. Great folk music, crafts for kids and tones of vendors. This was such a fun Canadian Christmas experience. We will definary add this to our yearly traditions, and at $10 plus food donation it is very affordable.

Beautiful place. My 6YO was super happy saying: Mom, I loved we were able to enter to the history. Food in the cafeteria is good also. I totally recommend it.

Rebecca Cramer

Excellent family experience! My youngest loved the electronic "story" option, and my eldest enjoyed talking to the people working there.

I went here not knowing what to expect. I felt very safe with the precautions they are taking to keep us safe.. The site it self was very interesting and alot of fun. The normal reenactments were not there but we were told all about them. Them smell of wood smoke took us back in time and it all seemed so accurate. My teen agers even enjoyed it..

The light festival in December is gorgeous. The church was open for few days at this time. Gun fires, Canon fires, good music and snow, makes for a wonderful evening. Some freat display of the history and culture of first nations around here. There are some nice organic products to shop as well but even without this it is Worth a visit.

Went here with my boyfriend thinking it would be very boring, but to my surprise, loved this place! Felt like I time-traveled. Tips: dont skip the theatre room and watch the presentation before you go in, that way you will appreciate the whole tour a lot better.

Went to the First Light festival with partner and her boys. An amazing living experience documenting the shared history of early European settlers and First Nations. We all had great fun. The dinner and drinks were a bit pricey but in support of this historical initiative, I didn't mind paying a bit more when I thought of that as donation.

Kirsty Moore

This place gives you a window into the settlement of the first European settlers in this area and makes me feel like I know Canada's history a bit better now. I definitely recommend it!

Steven Ercolani

A nice way to spend an hour or two where you can learn about some of the history of Canada. The staff at the site is very knowledgeable and add to the experience. For the cost of this self guided tour it's worth it if you're in the area.

Mary Jane Braide

We were very surprised how beautiful this was. Staff were so interesting and engaging. Lovely in the autumn with fires in every building and the smell of woodsmoke. Mysterious and thought-provoking.

Lester Jacobs

Very informative and interesting exhibit. I learned new information about the interaction of the Europeans with the First Nations. This was especially poignant given that we are celebrating Canada 150 this year.

The pioneer village lets us have a better understanding about the people's lives of early ages. The staff are also helpful and informative.

We loved our visit...

More buildings and far bigger museum than we expected. Oldest site in Ontario, with artifacts from 1600's. Many period-costumed staff in the village, who are very knowledgeable and provide hands-on experiences.

Aimee Harrison

Reconstructed village from pioneer settlement. Well maintained. Interpreters scattered throughout for fun insights. Crafts for kids. Self guided tour (option of audio guided tour). All outdoors - dress for the weather.

If you are in the area, stop by. An excellent museum!
