I've visited Fort la Reine Museum for three years but with COVID-19 I'm unfortunately unable to visit this summer due to long distance. Missing it terribly. Spending your summers at Fort la Reine Museum is so much fun. They have Sunday crafts and programs, tea party tours, escape rooms, and other special programs/events. One program that was my favourite was the cinnamon bun making with the pioneer clay oven! The people they hire care about their patrons, the buildings and the artifacts. Its a great place to go on a guided or self guided tour and bring a lunch with you. Its great for kids, adults and seniors. The cats at the Fort la Reine Museum are also very adorable and cuddly. Highly recommend going to Fort la Reine Museum for any occasion.

We went for Prairie day and learned how to make ice cream by hand as well as witchcraft and did some exploring. The staff was very friendly to the 2 little girls I had brought with me and it was a great time for $20!

Corn maze in summer. I didn't tour the museum although it looks very nice I did tour the corn maze however at night time it is open if you want to go there at night. There is ample parking. Fun place.

A short distance from Winnipeg and the actual site of La Verendrye's fort in the region is close by. Go during a reenactment.

A very authentic representation. Be prepared to walk a lot and climb lots of stairs. It's a big place and not exactly wheelchair friendly. Other than that, it's a very realistic experience.

The museum has been updated, is cleaner/tidier than ever, and now features a ton of local events from tea parties to escape rooms. It's really come a long way! If you're local, you owe it another visit to see the updates. If you're from out of town, it's certainly worth the trip if you're a history buff, tractor enthusiast or simply in search of a good way to spend the day!

Nice museum of pioneer and local history. Exhibits include homes, schools and churches displaying life 100 years ago, railway cars, WW2 training airplanes and lots of agricultural equipment. Great place for kids.

Fort La Reine Museum offers about thirty buildings to visit from churches over factories to train wagons. There is something for every taste. The only problem is that there are sometimes so many random exhibits that one wonders where they come from and what they mean.

Beautiful well preserved historic buildings including a few homes from different decades, general store, church, and more! This is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon in Portage la Prairie on a beautiful summer day. Bring a picnic and enjoy the sunshine while you tour through Manitoban and Canadian history. In the fall they have a corn maze, and host special events through the year, including the winter.

This is one of my favourite museums in Manitoba. It is really well maintained and interesting, with lots of different stories and artifacts. We came twice and spent almost 3 hours with my kids each time. The staff is very friendly and they strongly recommend covid measures.

We are spending a weekend in Portage la Prairie, and decided to check out the 'Fort La Reine' museum on the outskirts of town. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up being blown away. There is a lot to see, and you're pretty much given free reign to wander around and look at the houses/artifacts. There are about a dozen houses and various buildings from the late 19th century and early 20th century depicting various eras of life on the prairies. There is also a small railway display, and a building dedicated to the military history in the area. Oh, and don't forget the huge Allis Chalmers building FILLED with old tractors and farm equipment. If you're ever in the area of PLP and have a few hours to spare, check out Fort La Reine museum. It's 100% worth the $10 entry fee ($5 for kids!)

Melissa Draycott

Christine ThePink

It's amazing to enter and visit the houses. It's all self guided during the week, so one should try to make it on the weekend.

Nathalie Vidler

This place was fantastic for the price! I really like that the houses weren't over crowded so you actually had an idea of how people lived.

We went on a Sunday and were offered (and enjoyed) cinnamon buns baked by a staff member in an outdoor clay oven! It was pretty hot the day we visited - I thought there would be more "inside time" It was still a nice little country museum!

This spot should not be missed. Great informative tours, and staff always seems busy trying to enhance the experience. Really great place to stop. Just wish they had a old time ice cream counter like Heritage Park in Calgary. Maybe one day.

This is such an amazing place to take the family, or if your a history buff, its certainly a place you could venture out on your own. Original artifacts, original buildungs that were either reassembled or moved to this site from the original homesteads. Airplanes, train cars, theres even a ukranian church the was moved in from Vita Manitoba

History is where we all come from. Seeing exhibits that were from the family farm of 100 years is humbling.

lazydaisy0413

We hadn't visited in a few years, so it was nice to come back. Lots of stuff had stayed the same, but there was lots of new (old) stuff to look at. All of it was super interesting, although it was a little sad to see so many pianos sitting idle. I really liked the exhibition on witchcraft, especially the final panel where I found out that I could be a witch!! LOL. Anyway, the one disappointment was the house that was newly restored with the vinyl siding and flooring. It just didn't fit with the time period indicated on the map. All in all we were happy to have stopped by and will definitely do so again.

Joyce Zahacy

Not as advertised and lacking in details on the Fort but still worth visiting.

Sarah McCulloch

A fantastic little museum! You can explore yourself or a free guided tour is available with your admission. I highly recommend the guided tour....you get so much information and fun facts from the tour guide as you're shown everything! Our guide was a just delightful gentleman named Chase. We had a GREAT time on our tour with him. We will definitely be returning for their special events!

Jeevan Arumugam

Bit of a small museum but a great layout and very informative. Would recommend to go and spend few hours there.

Went there for Halloween. It was a great place. If u like learning about the history u can visit there. Halloween wasn't that scary but still it was fun. We really enjoyed it.

Michael Franklin

One of the best things to do in Portage La Prairie besides the MCC Thrift Shop and waiting a half an hour for your order at the McDonalds. The exhibits are interesting and really give you an idea of the sights, sounds and smells of the early 19th century. The stairs in a lot of the buildings are super steep and difficult for kids to navigate but that won't stop them from climbing them again and again and again. The barns may not be the best for smaller children unless your aim is to teach them about the dangers of farm equipment and the finer points of tetanus shots. For some of the other users saying the museum isn't scary at Halloween, I disagree. We went there in July and were truly creeped out but the mannequin room upstairs in one of the buildings and the typewriter sound effect in the print shop. The owners should play these up at Halloween time and really make a killing (figuratively). Finally, don't show your kids the ringing bell in front of the schoolhouse.
