This Museum is included in the category of Science museum.
This is really more of a place for children. They have centered a lot of their exhibits around what kids would like. I feel like this is a poor decision as there are still adults visiting and it would be beneficial to have some adult centered pieces in the exhibitions. Otherwise, if you have kids it's a good place to bring the family.
Kids had the best time. So many things to do and see plus they have a kids play area. Love it
Pricey to get in and the cost of the Lego exhibit was not included in the admission price. The Lego exhibit was cool but small. Many of the other displays were well done but there could have been more interactive elements for the younger visitors.
The museum was perfect for young kids, I took a group aged 2 to 8 and the 8 year old was engaged with the displays meanwhile the 2 year old was able to explore to her hearts content. Displays highly child proofed so the 2yr old was able to touch and play without us having to fear that everything will break. Highly recommend picking up an annual pass that covers a number of different museums across Ottawa, we have made great use out of this plus other locations in the last year.
So much fun. Very interactive! Will definitely visit again soon.
So great to have this facility opened again! My grandson had a blast in the kid zone....but there were a lot of fabulous exhibits to check out! Great "Ottawa" place to go spend the day with your family. Very accessible (except, unfortunately, the all time "classic" crooked kitchen) There's also extra wheelchairs and strollers if need be. Glad they kept the trains but would love to see the others they have too!
Compared to the "old" science and technology museucm I visited as a kid, I have to say they both have their charm. On the one hand, this current "rebuild" is definitely something to admire: they have some truly captivating exhibits! On the other hand, there is something missing...perhaps its too "industrial"? I cannot find the exact words, but there is a certain charm that is lacking. The bottom line this the: you will not be disappointed at this newer version! There is so much to see and do many things are extremely interactive! I always love to take a Saturday with a few friends and spend it strolling through this wonder of science and technology!
Nice place to spend a couple of hours and get some knowledge. Great place for older kids as they will be able to learn a lot with the visual experience of the science models. Younger kids also will enjoy and mostly few photos locations for …
Covid restrictions killed the fun :( the crazy kitchen, train, fun room, restaurant and more were all closed. On a positive note: we had the entire museum to ourselves and they had a fun show that my kids enjoyed.
Not very interactive. I expected more tablets and listening devices. Instead it’s like any other museum with signage that you read. So boring. Where’s the app? They gave us a paper map?! While we paid to get in, no one checked our bracelets. You could probably just walk in and no one would notice. Parking is $3 an hour or $8 per day. Cash grab.
The Da Vinci exhibit is one of a kind with a visual arts display that wraps around the room, historical references, and great educational lessons. There were many real pieces of memorabilia, including Leonardo's books. I would recommend everyone pay the extra $5 to attend.
Was not impressed with the new museum. There was not a lot to discover. Used to spend hours in the museum before the renovations, this time we were done in a little over an hour and found the exhibits boring. Most of our time was spent in the video game exhibit since it was the most interesting. My kids missed a few of the old items that were not included in the renovation.
First time going since reopening. How was so much money spent and this place is more boring than it was before. THIS SHOULD BE GEARED TO KIDS!? My 9 and 5 year old enjoyed a couple of items but I'm general were bored, lack of interactive learning stations. Science and Tech should be fun for kids, instead they would rather go to the History museum kids section.
I visited this museum many years ago before it was renovated and I have some very fond memories of my time there, so it's easy to understand why I was excited to see it brand new and renovated! What a let down... Almost all of the fun things I remember doing as a kid are gone. There were so many things you could interact with, and now there are so little! Plus, many of them were broken - disapointing considering the museum just reopened a year or so ago! The steam train section is pretty much the same with nothing new. Most of the museum now consist of an item behind a display with a paragraph or two to descrine it - that's it. My favourite part, and by far the highlight of the museum, are the interactive demos presented live on the stage. The people doing them are great and the experiments are really fun to watch. Is it a bad museum? No, not at all. If you've never been there, you should go! It's a fun place to visit and there are plenty of things that adults and kids will like to see and do. Parking at the time of my visit was 8$ CAD, and museum entrance fee for an adult 17$ CAD. Somewhat expensive, but there's a good amount of things to see, and if you've never been there, you'll probably like it.
The new and improved museum certainly has more things to see and do! The design was to make the experience more interactive and they succeeded. In every section there are things to experience, to touch and to interact with. My only complaint would be that they need hand sanitizing stations, especially if you have kids!
Wonderful place for kids with parents. My son never wants to leave there every time. Science with joy and technology with play. Kids can learn a lot.
Amazing exhibitions and very welcoming staff. Also some fun live demonstrations in a very interactive and well contextualised museum. The anechoic chamber was my main reason to visit but it was closed due to covid so my heart is broken, but still the overall experience was pretty amazing.
The museum had a lot of cool things, but it was really best suited for bringing your small children and family.
Exhibits were interesting and informative. w Washrooms were clean and looked after. Great performances of the scientific demonstrations (great on speaking French and English for the audience). I wish there were more interactive exhibits.
Great place been here dozens of times since I was a kid. Just wish they rolled out the expansion in a more timely and efficient manner. Left everyone in the dark and spent all the money with nothing to "show" 4 it.
You don't need to show your vaccine passport for a quick shopping trip to the museum store. Very helpful staff!
I have always enjoyed this museum thoroughly since I was a kid. This time, with so many of the headline exhibits closed, the experience was greatly degraded. There was no mention of these closures when we bought our (full-priced) tickets online, only discovering it when we arrived.
Great staff both at the front lobby and security/guides. It's a great place to bring your kids. I did find the information a little simplistic maybe aimed at younger crowds. If that was their goal, they hit the mark. However, for those of us looking for a little more "meat" it was a little disappointing. Again great for bringing youth and kids.
In my opinion this is the best of the museums in Ottawa, but I might be a little biased since I like trains so much. They have a couple steam engines inside the building which are pretty cool. They also have some train cars out back behind the museum. I also like the tech that they show with Canadians having fun outside like snowshoeing, snow mobiles, biking, canoes, etc.
The great blessing and curse of the Museum of Science and Technology is definitely the Crazy Kitchen. Children 2-8 absolutely love it, but then don't want to leave. The other exhibits are excellent as well: antique cars, snowmobiles, trains, and household appliances, and numerous thematic displays.
The museum is free daily between 4-5pm, so that is when we chose to check out this museum for the first time. It was quite busy, I think it was a Saturday, but there was enough to look at that we were still having a great time. I do regret not planning on visiting earlier than 4 because I didn’t even get close to covering everything in that hour! Definitely worth checking out.
Wow, the museum is an excellent experience for everyone, bring the kids, it's very much worth a whole day here, there's a lot to see and do and learn. The staff is very kind and resourceful.
Great for kids and adults. Some exhibits are closed due to covid but overall it was an enjoyable experience
Saw the logo exhibit which was very interesting and liked both Lego painting, incorporation with photographs including the red dress with over 20k pieces and the dinosaur.. Had a quick peak into other exhibits and signed up for membership so I can explore at my leisure in the next year.
Had a blast rediscovering this gem. Have so many fond memories of this place when I was a kid and great to see the new museum remembering its heritage, while looking to the future. Love the Trains, and the Crazy Kitchen is always awesome, but really loved the Zoom Room, loved watching my LO go from activity to activity, fully engrossed in the experience. Can’t wait for what it holds next time
The Art of the brick exibit was amazing to see a lot of interactive stuff for kids. For the price it was very reasonable for just the museum however the exhibit is very expensive. All in all great museum there is stuff there for everyone.
Still a great way to spend 1/2 a day. So many memories. Love the trains!
You need at least 3 hours to experience it. Kids love it. Don't miss the live demonstrations in the center stage!
Great museum for everyone!!!
The kids had fun. The shows on Cryo and fire were the main attraction for my group of kids. Thx to the man on stage for putting on great show and helping me get a good pic on the gang. Will certainly return when my kids a little older to get them to understand more about all the different exhibitions.
We found nothing very interesting at this museum. It's the same artifacts as what was there before the rebuild with very minimal interactive sections. The zoom section was fun for the kids but everything else was just something to look at or buttons to press. The atmosphere is also not very enjoyable. It was so noisy that I couldn't even hear my kids. I wish I could day something more positive but it just really was not very fun.
Great museum! The renos make a big difference - I would say it is suitable for kids 6 and up but the kids room is for all. It even has a special gated area for babies. And for the parents, there is ample sitting area :)
Outstanding new and improved space and artifacts presentation. Just too good to call it "renovation". Good public investment. Bravo!!
A wonderful place to bring your kids. Went specifically for the LEGO exhibit, which is worth the extra entrance fee. A very varied exhibit ending with a great section for kids to make their own creations. …
Was a bit disappointed; seamed to be much smaller than before the renovations. We went with our 3 yr old and would say most of the exhibits are for over 6 yr olds. He enjoyed the kids zone and the trains. Parking was very, very confusing; we were getting dropped of and no clear indication of where to go. I expect it will be bigger when they open the new part; alot of the space portion was not there yet.
Very sad to see a good chunk of the displays closed off or shut down. I assume a lot of it was due to covid regulations. What was available was still interesting!
A place full of fun and knowledge. I specially enjoyed Leonardo Da Vinci Hall.
Basically they took the old museum and updated a little bit. The kids had fun and that's all that mattered.
Was so nice to see this was open again in this Post-Covid existence. Always loved this place as a kid and it's so interesting to take my daughter here and see it through her eyes. Keep being awesome!
A very immersive experience, clean, and unique! Great for children of all ages, some exhibits are currently closed due to covid (ex. Crazy Kitchen) but understandable for the safety of everyone. Washrooms are clean, and stalls are staggered for covid safety. I recommend bringing hand sanitizer with you, and wipes, make sure you eat and drink before entering. Thank you, we will be back!
Its a great place for young an old - i bring my toddler to the zoom room and the crazy kitchen regularly and he loves it. I also love that there's a comfortable nursing room nearby. There's so much interesting information for grown up while younger guests can learn and play at the same time.
To park, I had to sit in my car in -25 degree weather and download an app and provide an enormous amount of information and buy parking in 1 hour increments when the Museum was only open for another 1.5 hours. For some reason the parking pay stations were closed. That got things off to a poor start. We waited a long time to pay our admission with half the front desk staff appearing to be idle. The museum had many fine exhibits, although I would say it is far more oriented towards technology than towards science. I found the lighting very harsh throughout, similar to the situation at the war museum. Despite all this, the trains are wonderful and make it all worthwhile.
Not ready to open yet - all of the interactive exhibits are shut down.
The museum was a nice place to spend a few hours. But for some reason I thought it was going to be bigger? It is quite interesting especially if your older as it's like going down memory lane with all the cool electronics or appliances we used to use when we were younger. I definitely think if you have gone as a kid you should definitely go as an adult. The Krazy kitchen is just like before! There are also washrooms, family spot to hang up jackets as well as a cafe for food.
Amazing informative museum for kids and adults
Went to visit the art of the brick expo. so beautiful I would recommend It yo anyone.
Just visited for my first time after the renovations have been completed. The updates are great featuring a lot of interactive exhibits. Also features a really neat gift shop full of STEM toys and experiments. Can't wait to go again.
I remember being so bored when the visited as a kid, but I went recently with my niece and it's changed so much since the renovations. Still has the Crazy Kitchen and the trains, but there are way more interactive exhibits and things to check out now. A great improvement.
Fantastic museum, with a lot of activities for the little ones. You can see all rooms in 3-4 hours, so, have a good size too. You can bring your own food and beverages, cause have a good space to eat. Your kids will love the interactive experiences and the live presentations with ice and fire. A must go in Ottawa.
Not terrible nor the best science museum I've seen. They have a nice demo space to show experiments e.t.c. the kids zone gives the little ones an area especially for them. I found the Leonardo Davinci exhibit a little sparse and poorly planned with the final section impossible to pass through without walking in front of people reading the displays. Considering it was only $5 extra for that specific exhibit, it's not terrible. I would go again if I lived closer. Might not do the drive from Montreal for this specific reason again.
Plenty to see and do. Great for kids especially the The trains, the zoom room and the sound room. l spent close to 2 hours looking at all the different exhibits and displays. I found interactive elements of each space educational and entertaining.
Had a great experience at the museum during COVID! Many of the interactive exhibits were closed however the collection was quite diverse and covered a lot of a variety of different fields inc. history of recorded music (some cool historic synths), Canadian history, printing machinery, old health care equipment to classic transportation devices (trains, passenger cars and snowmobiles). There's guaranteed to have something for everyone in here. I wanted to make note that Leo at the gift shop was extremely pleasant to interact with and does their job extremely well. They were engaging with visitors (including young children) very well, super informative and passionate about their job!
We really enjoyed it! However we were very disappointed that a lot was closed due to our safety. Everything we loved as kids, we couldn’t not share with our children.
The sound pavilion and the train and outdoor sections are amazing. Other sections are interesting. There's still something missing to make the whole experience cohesive from exhibit to exhibit room. Overall a very solid place to spend a day in with your children.
A great experience for the whole family. Lots to see and do. The Cryo-Genius demo was fantastic. Looking forward to returning after the current restrictions are lifted to take part in more hands on activities.
My kids love this museum. From the trains to the sound exhibit they always have a great time here. We took in the special exhibit on the art of the brick and it was fantastic. Previously we went to see the history of video games which was also great.
Great renovation. Beautiful displays with interactive elements for the kids. A lovely section for kids under 8 with interactive, physical, open-ended activities. Lots of old favourites too, including the train engines. Staff is friendly and helpful.
I have been going to the museum of Science and technology since I was a kid of about 5 years old and the museum has been capturing my imagination for over 30 years. Even after so many years I'm still mesmerised by the exhibits and interactive activities provided by the museum which technically is constantly changing based on seasonal and other factors. It is really cool to see that after all these years that the crooked kitchen is still in good working order and properly maintained. The kids are going to love climbing aboard the full-size steam locomotives perfectly preserved by the museum from which I understand are actually in perfect working order. Also you're going to want to check out the quiet room with anechoic absorbers that simulates being in outer space which people have said in rumors you can hear your own heart beating when you're in the quiet room. I asked my daughter to scream as loud as she could with her friends when they were in the quiet room, although other people in the room demento it I thought it was a great experiment to see if I could actually hear the sound from the outside of the room.
It’s unfortunate but I’d say I was disappointed with my recent visit to the museum. Honestly I think the old one was a lot more visually stimulating, with a lot more to see. Since the renovation it seems to be more empty/spaced out and missing the old unique charm, like the beautiful benches that were near the trains that were replaced by some generic cubed leather seating. I think it was laking in newer examples of technology as well. A few of the exhibition pieces were missing (due to conservation or something like that) and some of the interactive computer activities were also not working. The kids play area was fun, but according to my 9yr old it’s not as fun as the old one. Parking was very limited and $50+ for admission and parking for one adult and 2 kids is a little ridiculous. I do not think we will be returning anytime soon :(
Went there specifically for the 2 and under section with about 10 other mom friends. Our kids range from 6-11months old. The kids section was so great and I loved there was a separate space for smaller kids. However, this space needs to be patrolled strictly. There was a day care group in the baby section with kids running around that were 5-7 years old. They were throwing balls at our kids and one ran into a baby and fell over him. No worker was to be found. It’s very dangerous. Aside from this it was great.
Unfinished for now, the old Museum was better and it seems as though it was made for a younger age group. Perfect for 5 to 10 year olds yet great for people with a lot of passion fir science & tech. Really confusing layout of the building.
This place has tons to see and explore. So much to learn. Be sure to plan to stay for several hours. Lots of unique and historic artifacts. You can see the wonders of how Canada has changed.
The remodel is beautiful. All of the exhibits are so fun and engaging with great visuals and interactive portions. It definitely made me feel like a kid again, getting to explore it, especially getting to wobble through the crazy kitchen again. The exhibits explore a number of interesting topics, my personal favorite being the video game one. The real downside is their price for admission and the fact that they're only free from 4-5 each day as opposed to the other museums that do three hours every Thursday evening. It almost seems passive aggressive. Like they're open for more hours, but make sure it's the most inconvenient time of day to go. An hour isn't enough time to see the whole museum, even if you rush through, and they're in an area that leaving at 5 puts you in the worst traffic. Additionally, when we went, the parking machine just wouldn't work, it wouldn't accept our change, wouldn't scan our card and then froze. Thankfully the person at the front desk helped us out quickly, but it's still a pain (especially when you only have an hour).
Cool museum with interesting pieces however its a little small as the entire museum can be viewed in 70 - 90 minutes.
We were waiting for a long time for this museum to open, and it did not disappoint. My son loves mechanical and scientific devices and had a blast here. Not only do they have an entire section dedicated to kids, but the rest of the museum has been designed with kids in mind so everything is approachable and fun for the little ones. We easily spend half a day here. The cafeteria is also good: decent quality and price but not the greatest selection. Overall, I would strongly recommend a visit to anyone with children.
Another successful family trip to the museum. Our 3 and 4 year old grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed themselves. While many of the exhibits are, naturally, beyond them, the manner in which they are displayed provided interest even for their age. I look forward to bringing them back for many years as they get older and increase their understanding of the science so well displayed.
Cannot recommend at the moment due to the covid restrictions currently in place. A significant number of attractions are closed including access to the trains and crazy kitchen.
Pretty big museum! Many fun experiments and history! Small parking lot. Pretty cheap entry fee!
Wondering what to do with the kids during the March Break in Ottawa? The visit to the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology is worth a visit. Parking was a bit of a challenge owing to how busy things were, and a single working parking pay kiosk created a 15 minute wait before we could even trek off to the museum, but thankfully things got better. Finding quality, cost effective activities can be challenging, and while the Museum is not cheap, it is not unreasonable. A family of up to 6 (2 adults) can visit for <$50. If you don’t bring along refreshments, or a snack that number can easily go up to $80-100, but bringing a bag lunch and snacks is a great way to keep the costs down. The exhibits are interesting and informative, showing that Canada does hold a place on the world stage in many different areas. The kids I had in tow were in ages 5 through 14, and there seemed to be something of interest for all of them. There were lots of kids there, and they seemed to be having a great time overall. We were there by noon and were able to see most of what we would have liked to see. The 5 pm closing will make it a bit challenging if you are going to arrive mid-afternoon and try to experience it all. The closing time also puts you out on the road at peak traffic as well if you stick it out to closing. An overall positive experience. One piece of advice….implement the buddy system and save yourself some serious worries trying to keep tabs on a group of youngsters.
Came mostly for the locomotives. Last visit was in 1970! Very impressive! Saw few other parts, but found them too far apart in their booths, and wasn't drawn to them.
Great museum. Lots of informative and interactive exhibits. Great for all ages.
Very nice. A wide variety of items, with interesting write-ups. The real steam trains were a particular favourite. A good size; a couple hours inside is probably about enough. As a comparison, the Ontario Science Centre is much larger. This is a bit more like a regular museum, and more about technology than science, and is much newer. Lots of kids, and camps, seemingly enjoying themselves.
Went here on a weekday so it wasn't busy at all. The kids really enjoyed all the exhibits and the hands on sections. Layout is good with lots to see and do, washrooms a plenty which were clean, there are lockers for a loonie and a coat check area which was nice. Only downside was the cafeteria which had some suspect practices ie. Handling money and then immediately assembling sand which without gloves or handwashing. Overall great place though.
Great cloak room! Heaps of space and boxes for stuff too. The exhibits were pretty good, although since we were there at March break, it was pretty crowded. The kids (ages 3,7,9) were pretty zoned out by the normal museum style exhibits (glass cases with textual explanation), and even the more tactile stuff was lost on them - audio stuff wasn't loud enough, they couldn't see through the microscope properly etc. But after lunch things picked up significantly for all of them in the zoom room (much more tactile, much more stuff for kids to actually DO) and the older ones also really enjoyed the exploratech room where we built a catapult by ourselves from konex (?) pieces to fire a cork across the room.
Very expensive $17.00 plus tax to get and now you need to pay for parking. After the reopening I expected more. There is less now than there was 20 years ago.
It was our first visit since they remodeled and we had a wonderful time. My two kids and I spent 3 hours going through and interacting with the displays. There were lots of places to sit throughout. I recommend it to all ages! We look forward to coming back soon!
Another great museum. My daughter also loves this place. Its interesting to see how many things from my childhood are now considered museum pieces. Even the the first iPod has made it in here. The exhibits are great they are still working …
Worth a visit. The gift shop has really cool gadgets at good price.
Very cool place! Not as much interactive stuff as before because, you know, covid, but still very educational, adapted to kids 10 and up, staff is very friendly.
Excellent, exhibits are well done and up high (you don't have to wait your turn to see something), displayed behind glass. Lego special exhibit is well worth the extra money
Newly renovated with lots more hands on exhibits. Lots of reading but lots for busy hands and feet to touch and experience. Loved the sound exhibits, the sound proof room is something else. A bit underwhelmed with some of the less interactive exhibits but that's compared to other museums like the one in Boston. Kids are unlikely to spend that much time reading the displays but overall a good experience and well done with the renovations. Will likely visit again.
It was fabulous, the Da Vinci special exhibit was so fascinating, I could've been in there reading and learning for 6 hours.
Great museum with lots of interesting exhibits. The crazy kitchen is awesome! Just wish parking was free or priced in with the ticket, especially since it's outside downtown.
Completely changed from the old science and tech museum that was before the renovation. There were lots of kids that day I visited the newly renovated museum the first time. However, the electric tunnel slide is gone after the renovation. By the way, great museum though
Cool museum but it's much cooler when the hands on exhibits are open to everyone. When science triumphs once again (fingers crossed), this museum is easily a 4 Star without even trying.
Large early education development centre which is great for babies and toddlers at 9:45 AM.
A little off the beaten path for Ottawa's museum circuit but worth the trip. Finding out some of the technological underpinnings of Canada's culture and the unexpected addition of an art display made for a great afternoon.
Visited the newly renovated Sci and Tech museum last week with the family, and it was great. Many of the old items are still there, but in new displays. There is a ton of new stuff and with so much interactivity. The kids had such a good time we actually had a hard time getting them to leave. We will be back!
Great museum but many exhibits are closed due up COVID. The staff still did a great job of keeping it fun for the kids.
Lots of knowledge, interesting for adults and children. Cool interactive setups to keep children engaged. We brought our friends and their 3 young children there. They were excited and into it for a solid 6 hours.
Nice museum but its definitely geared for younger children.
A waste of time and money! $8 to park and $17 admission. Don't do it if you don't have kids! The exhibits are haphazard and extremely poorly lit.. Calling it Canada's National Science museum is an embarrassment to me. The War Museum, the National Gallery and the Aviation Museum are far better value.
So excited to see the Reno! Make new memories with the kids
Editing my pre-covid review. Almost everything that is interesting for young children is closed: the crazy kitchen, visiting inside the trains, the kids section of the museum. It's very disappointing to see so many things closed in the museum. I wouldn't recommend to go with young children right now. It's just not very interesting for them.
Would definitely come back here again and again... Lots more to see and experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Don't miss the demos..
I remember going here before the major redesign and reopening when I was in grade school and it was great then. Now I am studying physics at university and I really love the modern approach the museum has taken. If your someone who studies science at the university level you may find yourself looking around going "is that it?" I found it was a little 'basic' at times but presented science and technology in a way that is easy to understand for everyone of all ages but I do wish that the museum provided additional information on some of the exhibits for more advanced viewers. All in all I think its a great place and I hope it inspires more kids to get out and get into STEM!
If it's raining in Ottawa and you have kids to entertain, head straight for the Science Museum. The recent/ongoing renovation has left the place looking grand and futuristic, and the kid zone is full to the brim of hands-on activities for the whole family. I'd like to get a look at the regular exhibits one day, since the few I managed to catch a glimpse of between the front door and the kid zone were thought-provoking and well-presented. Only downside is that the onsite cafe is nothing special, so bring snacks.
It's ok..but could be better I've been there 5 times and for example the Virtual booth near the trains has been closed every time ...I asked an employee and was told it's because they did not have enough volunteers???? However there seems to be staff all over the place some not looking very enthusiastic... There is a lot of dead spaces and the admission is expensive $17+tax (family rate is ok at $50 (for 2 adults n up to 6kids) then paid parking..with a private company of $9 which really bothers me... Now there is a nice building that's being built next to it which appears that it won't be opened to the public what a missed opportunity. The best part is If you are around the area it's free from 4-5pm .
The Lego exhibit was awesome! The museum itself is much smaller then it was before, I'm not sure I would go back unless there was another exhibit like the Lego one.
They made full use of the space in the museum to make it fun, entertaining and interesting with their 10 expositions+. Some expositions makes you interact with it so it keeps adults and children into it for the whole visit. If you're an avid fan, you'll need a full solo afternoon to read through or more. They are still building an building extension that will extend the offer even more!
Loved all the old stuff like phones and early instruments! And the train section was very cool!
Great museum, great staff, shame that some exhibits still closed due to covid but still worth it
Great spot for people of all ages. Lots to see and explore. Activities available for younger children 8 and under. Cafeteria with lots of food choices.
Wow, the new renovated museum is amazing. I grew up coming here and have been excited to see the new changes. Love the kids' Zoom area with so much to do. And every other area has various interactive stations that the kids loved. We watched a science demo and even our 5 year old was entranced. We spent all day here. If I lived in Ottawa, I would buy a year's family pass just to bring the kids all year 'round.
Fantastic museum that was renovated a couple years ago. The museum looks very modern. There is lots of space for parents to bring their toddlers. Lots of activities to enjoy. You can see trains here too.
I come here often with the kids but enjoy it just as much without them (haha!). Our family favourites are the giant trains, the silent cube, and the crazy kitchen. There is also a large room where kids can build toy cars, climb walls, and throw cloths into an air tunnel while their adults kick back and enjoy a little peace. My kids also recently attended the summer camps - my daughter (5) went to Science Explorer and my son (7) went to Junior Robotics. The staff and councilors were fantastic and both kids had stories to tell me every day about what they learned.
Great place for kids and grown ups! The only downside is the price of food at the little cafe. You better bring our own
So busy but still so much fun. I haven't been in many years and it does not disappoint. The crazy kitchen is the best part. The shows they put on had horrible sound so you couldn't hear and the girl who did it talked way too fast couldn't understand or hear her.
My family and I have a membership to this museum, and at 3 and 5 years old, this is one of my boys' favourites. They call it the "button museum" due to the amount of interactive displays. As a parent, this is perfect because there's enough to keep us coming back again and again. Some highlights from the perspective of a parent: - Kids' area with plenty of hands-on activities that are also fun for mom and dad to join in, such as the hurricane simulator, toy cart racing and building areas. - Huge trains to go inside and get up close - The room of silence (I'd like to book the museum privately at some point and see what actual silence sounds like at some point). - Musical instruments, especially the theremin - Crazy Kitchen (plays with angles and perspective) I've managed to successfully avoid the cafeteria and gift shop to date, but they're there if you're so inclined, but not so in-your-face as to make it a chore to get out without purchasing something. A really great option for any family! Additonal Note: This is part of the Ingenium family of museums, which also include Aviation and Agriculture in Ottawa, so your membership covers all three. A great bonus is that it covers some other museums nationwide, so you can do things like go to the fantastic Spark museum in Calgary if you're out that way, for example.
It's a great museum. Love the steam trains on display. Crazy Kitchen is a must try. It's a weird experience. Lots of things to learn and see. However it was quite sad to see the items we used now ended up in museum display like the walkman, discman, and first generation ipod. The special Leonardo da Vinci exhibition is a must see. Not only it has many inventions models but also an in depth analysis and story of the Mona Lisa. Well worth the visit. Can easily spend more than a day there.
Wonderful layout, water fountains, coat hangup, available. Nice flow to the museum that let's you see everything without too much walking backwards. Really enjoyed seeing everything. Many topics from gears bikes all the way to latest cellphones and minerals
Wow! First time visiting this museum. I brought my 2 year old and he had a blast! There was a lot of interactive displays for the kids and adults alike. Very good variety of things to see. Was able to spend a full day here with my kid and he was not fed up with this place. Lots of room and lots of things to do. Highly recommended for a day out!
Has always been a great place for the whole family; after renovations it's even better! Our whole family really enjoyed our visit 2 adults, 2 boys 12 and 13 yo. The staff is very friendly, helpful and informative.
Super interactive, beautifully designed. Can't wait until the next building opens to see it completed. Love the connection to modern technologies, love the nods to issues like food security and climate change. Even love how the washrooms have facts about water. Lots of fun, wish they would have open evenings for adult groups so we could have a chance to check out some of the more interactive parts. Happy to see that some things from before it closed were there (like the trains and the crazy kitchen), missed some other things like static electricity exhibit. Very well organized, empathetic, inclusive and fun. Definitely recommend for kids and adults alike!
Very fun and highly educational experience, the staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to explore every exhibit and throughly enjoy our time spent here. Food was also amazing, café alone was a 8/10. They have lockers and cubbies to hang coats and put your lunches. Lockers are a dollar and cubbies are free with admission.
The art of the brick 2018. Absolutely #1 favorite tourist attraction. Fabulous experience for all ages. Free Thursday evenings from 4-5. Membership discounts available here. Parking available. Cafeteria located inside the museum.
This has always been a great hands on museum for the whole family. Unfortunately due to Covid most of no longer hands on. There isn’t a lot that you can do anymore. Mostly just walk and look.
Took the kids for a family fun/educational day and we all had a great time. Lots to see and learn about, my kids were everywhere trying games and testing out displays. And for 5 of us, admission was under 50$.
The new science and technology museum is clean and has very nice items. But, it has way less items than before. I assume it is not fully built. As there is another building under construction in the same site. In my last visit, I missed the items that has some interactions. As the kids like to do things by hand to have diary hand experience. The show was great.
Fantastic experience. So much to see and experience. I specifically went for the da Vinci exhibit but loved everything else too! My advice, go early. We were there on a Saturday. It opened at 9 and we were there at 920...enjoyed about 40 minutes of minimal crowds before families started rolling in. The place was packed when we left at 11ish and there were lots of kids.
Super fun for all ages! Only complaint is our lunch (two sandwiches and fries) took well over 20 minutes to receive. However, they were very busy so not a big deal. Our baby had tons of fun!
This is what I wished every museum was when I was a kid. I took my neice here and I had more difficulty taking myself away from the exhibits than she did , but only because she wanted to see everything! Wonderfully laid out and designed with kids in mind.
We were there today with our two younger boys, 15 and 6 years old. Totally worth it! The Lego Sculptures are incredible! The locomotive displays, the Zooom area, really everything was awesome! Also, I got to build this thing out of Jenga-type blocks.
Always a blast! There is so much to do you can easily get lost in there for hours. If you have little ones I recommend that you Get a membership! It gets you parking and into three museums. It's definitely worth it even if you were to visit three or four times for the year with your family.
We loved the museum. It was interactive and fun for our whole family. My children are 2yo and 9mo and both of them enjoyed it! Aside from the great exhibits in the main museum, there is also a dedicated children's exhibit and even a place for crawlers to explore. Aside from thosebthings, there is a comfortable nursing room and changing station. The staff was excellent as well. We really enjoyed it. We will be back!
It has been years since I travelled to this museum and the newest additions made it so much fun! There is lots to do and see and learn for all ages. I loved all the interactive exhibits, and found that time flew by inside.
It has been years since I travelled to this museum and the newest additions made it so much fun! There is lots to do and see and learn for all ages. I loved all the interactive exhibits, and found that time flew by inside.
This museum is fun for all ages and a great place to take kids! There is a lot of interactive stuff and fun things to do although some of these are closed due to covid.
We had a great time! People are queued outside, then briefed on how to move around the exhibits, hand sanitizing and safe distance. The trains near the entrance are awesome! My kids favorite part was a small projector tucked away at the back that mimics your movement but shows as a skeleton on the screen. So much fun!
An amazing experience for young kids. Toys and toddler areas as well interactive larger pieces for older or supervised kids. Surprisingly, a common date place too. I saw more than a dozen couples taking selfies and whatnot on a Saturday. Lots of information displays with interactive buttons or at least a video explaining things. Features three full size locomotives which my son loved! Even a kids train table after the tour for them to play it.
Great museum, wish it were bigger.
Always a fun time and interactive exhibits. It should be free though :)
This place was awesome. I took a school trip here and everyone really enjoyed the very interactive environment. You can easily spend hours here, especially if you have little ones (the Zoom area is awesome for little kids). Definately recommended.
The LEGO exhibit was great, however the rest of the museum is lacking, admission fee is way too expensive for what it offers. I was hoping to see more brainy and interactive displays.
Great place to visit with the kids. Lots of activities and fun stuff to do, a lot of interactive exhibits, friendly staff. Would need at least a good 3 to 4 hours for this museum, but well worth the time.
new and modern museum with state of the art technology. reopened just mid-november. definitely one of the best museum. family/household pass does worth the money if you plan to visit often as we do.
so much to see in one day that needs a second day
I went there today with my husband and 4 year old. I find it to be a waste of money personally. 48$ plus have to pay for parking. There was like 4 things in there not working. It was a pretty boring. The crazy kitchen was fun and my daughter had fun playing with the giant puzzle pieces in the kids area. I would not return to this museum. I did go there with high expectations given it was closed for so long. Pretty disappointed.
Got to see the amazing LEGO exhibit here! Which was absolutely an unreal experience. Especially the T-Rex. Rest of the museum is pretty great too, loved how interactive it was.
The museum is quite nice. It is divided into a few sections and you can walk around freely in each. One section called Zoom is for 0 to 8 and the kids loved it, we could have spent the whole day there. The other sections are mixed, the trains and the sound section where quite fun while some others are better for those who want to spend time reading the details which young children won't or can't do, so there is something for everyone and you can spend a whole day there regardless of age. We got lucky that the Sunday we were there was not busy as that would surely have make the experience less fun. The reason for the less than perfect score are two fold: parking is paid which is strange in the suburbs, but I can at least understand wanting to push people to use public transit and then the food, why museums serve so much junk food I will never understand, it is a kids museum, serve some real food. Prices are also a bit high but the family package is well worth it especially if you have 4 kids!
Don't come here until covid is done with... they close many attractions even though it's not necessary
Best museum I have ever been in. There is something for everyone there. Kids loved it and so did we. There is a nice cafeteria on site as well. Ample parking on site.
Excellent family outing for kids of all ages. Parking is $6-8; lockers $1, lots of bathrooms, fully accessible and lots of sitting area. Allow 4 hours minimum for full visit of main museum. Bring food or cafe on site
They have trains!!! They have Legos!! They have all kinds of interactive displays! Wait did I mention the Legos
Science and Technology Museum, Located in 1867 St. Laurent Blvd., Ottawa, On., K1G 5A3 is best place to go for young, adult kids and family! My son loves it, clean environment and following the protocol of public health. They have …
Do NOT go to this museum with kids during a pandemic. EVERYTHING for kids is closed. Kids play zone is closed, most interactive things are physically removed, the iconic trains are closed, "anti-echo" room is closed, and worst of all...the Krazy kitchen is closed! Was a huge waste of money and felt so bad for my kid. So mad they don't warn you before buying tickets.
Educational and very fun for the whole family. I would definitely recommend the disorientation room and the trains (they are really cool). It is a must go for people looking for a good museum
One of my favourite Museums. It's free everyday from 4 to 5pm. Parking is not free and is limited, but it's low cost $3 per hour and you are able to pay from your phone.
Came here with our group and were not disappointed. Lots of displays to choose from. We really enjoyed the train and boat displays. We could easily wander around this place all day long. Then there are the live shows. Our little guy really …
Loved my experience at this museum. I went there with a large family of 7. Very interactive for kids, they all wanted to stay an extra hour for the next presentation but us adults were getting tired and ready to go back home. The cafeteria food is a bit expensive but you can always bring your own lunch.
We went there on Family Day. The museum was a great place to spend with kids is all ages. There were dozens of workshops with interactions for kids. The museum exhibitions were also kid-friendly and we spend 4 hours there with 2.5 and 8 y.o. with great pleasure.
Very interesting and informative first phase. Interesting for all ages, easy to navigate including wheel chair visitors. Easy parking and clean facilities. Can't wait until expansion is complete. Extra charge to see Lego, no thanks.
Loved the old museum, and love the new one. Couldn't wait to go when it re-opened. They still have the important exhibits like the crazy kitchen but have a lot of new interesting exhibits. I have gone twice during the free hour (last hour of the day is free!) And wouldn't have wanted to stay all that much longer. The place is nice and clean, but even after 1 month of being open a lot of the activities in the exhibits were broken.
My 3 year old really enjoyed the kids room, he loved building And racing the cars. My older child (10) liked the trains and the video game exhibition. Some neat stuff for the adults.
Great place fun times :)
Went with our grandchildren, she'd 8 -11. Excellent visit. Many interactive displays. Good age specific content. Some displays could have used more explanation/description. Was crowded the day we visited. Try for mid week.
It would be a great Science and Technology Museum for a mid sized city of less importance than Ottawa. As a National museum in a G7 capital it is fairly unremarkable. They should have taken the opportunity to move it to a more central location and expanded it greatly rather than renovating the existing building a few years ago. That being said, it has a great train exhibit and there is enough to entertain my daughter for an hour or two. It's still worth a visit from time to time.
As good as when I was a kid, and better - the Crazy Kitchen is even still there! Get a free Family Pass from your local Library. Parking approx. $8. Very reasonable food prices too. Ya just gotta go!
Such a great museum only thing that was disapointing was the crazy kitchen etc was closed due to covid
Kids loved it. Museum did a great job of accommodating covid protocols and still keeping things fun for the kids. They had a scavenger hunt/word jumble puzzle that the kids had so much fun doing. Had a great time!
Love the new Science and Technology museum. My kids (9 and 5) had a blast, my son said he had the best day ever. Lots of interactive displays, and the classics are still there from when I was a kid (the steam trains, the crazy kitchen). Not a bad price (43$) for 4 hours worth of fun for a family of 4. The Maple Cafe was also very good for lunch, and decent prices too.
Parking was easy. The new museum is really spacious inside. Layout is sort of wheel like making it comfortable to travel between sections.
First class museum. I was worried that after the major renovation they would get rid of the trains my kids loved but they are still there and a new generation f kids are climbing on the huge old trains. The new areas are well designed and are kid friendly But fun for adults too. My grandkids especially loved he LEGO exhibit. A huge dinOsaur all out of LEGO. Or how about he ‘Scream’ in LEGO? Every month it s a new discovery.... and our membership allows us membership in hundreds of other tech museums around the world. Even the restaurant is reasonably priced! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars as it doesn’t have quite enough seats for the tired parents and grandparents who are waiting for their charges...
Great museum! Only two small complaints. Clearly the architect never changed a diaper as the change stations are pretty much right in the doorway to the bathrooms meaning everyone coming and going has to go around you, and you are even exposed to people entering the other washroom. Then, the section about audio... The artifacts are too high up and too far away, as are the controls for interactive displays. So, totally inaccessible unless you are 5 feet high. Silly when this museum caters to kids.
Excellent museum, to visit at least once in life. Various new things to learn during the visit with much pleasure. I have visited the museum with my 15 months old baby and he got much fun. I recommand it for adults and children.
This review is for the food area only, the menu is limited to 5 choices. My wifes hot dog bun was hard in some spots?!?!? My hamburger was cold!?!? Luckily the fries were freshly cooked, so they were nice and hot. If not, I'm sure they would have been cold as well. The tables were clean. The rest museum was great. Some of the activities in the kids area looked pretty beat up, but understandable.
Nice place to spend time. Locomotive steam engines are a delight to watch
I give it 5 starts as my kid enjoys it a lot. She definitely love the most recent Lego exhibit. We have the season pass which is great when the special exhibits come along.
Museum is great as always. HEADS UP TO PARENTS: 90% of interactive stuff is taped off. Trains, play area, crooked house all inaccessible. We understand why but never crossed my mind when I booked the tickets.
We had a great time at this museum - it's both kid and adult friendly. Lots of interesting exhibits to see involving medicine through the years, technology, etc. They had a live fire demonstration which was fantastic. My infant loved the baby play area, and the comfortable diaper change room was definitely a plus. As my son grows, we will be sure to continue to visit frequently!
This newly renovated museum is great place for kids to learn about science and how technology advanced in Canada. My kids love going on the train engine and try things. Crazy kitchen is fun too. I especially like little toddler area, so little kids can play easily. Good place to go especially during crazy winter days.
Great museum, a lot to see and learn, special for the kids. Big place and large parking lot but still under construction. Clean restroom, prepare at least 3 hours to discover all the things there, also has playground for kids, a nice souvenir shop. Update : has a cafeteria, so you can spend all day there :-)
Amazing museum! This is how museums are meant to be. Helpful staff throughout the museum. The parking is big enough for a lot of cars at the same time. Did not have to wait in line to pay my entrance. Impeccable and impressive entrance hall with all the natural light coming through.....I was just really impressed. Paid to go see the Lego structures exposition. It was, again, impressive. I went with 3 kids with very different interests due to their age category. They all found something of interest. Please go to the "crazy kitchen". It's a must. If you have a 0-8yr old go to Zooom room. They will have a blast. The "Medical Sensation" will definitely appeal to the ones curious or considering this field of education. I could go on and on. Just find some time to go to this museum. Prepare yourself to spend your day there. It will be well worth your time and money. 100% educational and fun. Will most definitely recommend it and return myself.
EVERYTHING is closed off due to covid so you are extremely limited to what you can see and explore. All interactive things are closed due to covid and it made no sense AT ALL! Go when ALL is open or you may very well be as disappointed as we were. Staff needs to be a little happier about life. They walk around like zombies
Lots of stuff for all ages, interactive displays that are interesting both to children and adults. Allocate maybe three hours.
Amazing! So much to do and interact with. You can spend the whole day there and you wouldn't get bored! The trains and cars are just wow! Love it!!! Food was okay but I would suggest to just bring snacks if wanted. Plus their special exhibits are worth paying for! Their Leonardo da Vinci was fantastic and something to definitely see if it comes again.
Great experience and exhibitions. Very child friendly and lots for them to see, learn, and experience. The renos are really nice and greatly appreciated. The live fire demonstration was 'explosive' and the mining section was great to see. Parking was easy and plentiful. We were very happy with our visit and will return.
I have great memories of this museum as a kid, so I was excited to bring my kids here when it opened back up. It has change very much from what I remember, bit they still have the Crazy Kitchen and the trains. Lots of great things for the whole family to see, and plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. Admission was a bit high, but we definitely got our money's worth as we spent quite a long time here. Looking forward to coming back again.
We went only once at the free hour (4-5 pm) and my kid was having fun. I felt like all the kids were loving the experience. It got a bit crowded on the weekend free hour but it wasn't an issue as everyone enjoyed what they were doing. I hope they increase the free hour to 2 hrs from 3-5 maybe. Because, by the time the kids got hooked on to playing something, everyone had to leave. That was the sad part.
Would recommend a visit to the new Science and Technology museum. Exhibits are very informative and fun to see. Great place for kids or adults. Crazy kitchen (slanted house) is always fun to visit. Great to see real Canadian trains on display as well
It was still great even though there was covid protocols in place and a lot of the exhibits weren't as interactive it was still done very well and they were cleaning all the time.
Lots closed..we can go into restaurants with out masks with tons of people but can't walk thru a train!!.took about an hour to go thru.
We bought a family membership and it's worth every penny. There's a place for the baby to zoom around in and enough activities to keep everyone in the family engaged and learning. Special mention to the staff, who are very friendly, great with kids, and ready to jump in and help. (Also, very kind when the baby blew through her diaper five minutes before the museum closed and gave me the time and space to deal with it without rushing me out the door.)
Kind service, nice experience, beautiful museum
What a fantastic update to this museum. I wish we had more time, we couldn't see everything in one visit. Will definitely be back one day.
Great for kids. There's a huge kids play area with so many different things they can do. They also have a huge change area that's quite quiet and women can breastfeed. The washrooms even have low counters for the kids to wash their hands. Which three massive CP rail steam engines two of which you can actually walk through. Weekend say often have live exhibits.
Had a work function at the Museum. Gotta love the crazy kitchen and trains giant projectors outside
Fun museum. Not extremely impressed with the renovation. ( most of the activités are the same from 20yrs ago) but great LEGO exhibit!
A fantastic experience with a clearly structured layout for the discerning visitor. Great for kids too. We were lucky enough to visit the Leonardo DaVinci exhibition
An amazing place to spend with the family while in Ottawa
The most fantastic science and technology museum. My wife and I have bought the yearly grandparents and grandchildren pass with parking option. Includes access to the Aviation and the Agricultural Museums. All great places to bring the kids. Well done.
Relatively small but on the outside it seems that they are expanding, would recommend overall!
Kids always have a blast. We go in the evening when's it's FREE 4-5 great place to learn and burn off energy!
Really cool place. Worth it just to drive by and watch the show projected onto the building. Kudos to the team on the rebuild!
Unfortunately half of the building was closed "due to repairs". Paid full admission costing $45 plus $3 parking for 1 Adult and 2 small children. There wasn't much for interaction for my kids. No crazy kitchen, no fun things. Only thing …
It has undergone a complete modernization since its closure. The exhibits are all clean and approachable for all ages, as well as informative. Makes for a great weekend outing to learn about our technological advances, as well as to help visualize just how far we've come so quickly.
Such a disappointment! Too many screaming, unruly children (and parents without a care in the world) My daughter who is a wheelchair user was constantly being bumped into, and almost had another visitor fall into her lap because he wasn't paying attention! All I can say is, thank goodness she wasn't hurt! That would have opened up a whole new can of worms!!! Needless to say, she was frazzled by the end of the tour. Overpriced and boring. There is nothing special with the RENOVATIONS! How can you possibly hear yourself think, let alone hear any of the interactive displays. The DaVinci Exhibit was overcrowded, with people squished together like a pack of sardines. All in all, not a pleasant experience and will never return. We'll stick with the other museum(s) in town!
Lots of good stuff to see. Layout is a little confusing now - easy to get lost. Not as many interactive exhibits.
Very nice place. Children have a great time. Lots of things to touch and see. Great learning opportunities
The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located 1867 Saint Laurent Blvd. On the museum grounds you will find some historical technological influencers to Canada. This includes, a lighthouse, an air radar antenna, a locomotive and train cars. In 2017 the museum was closed for 3 years to repair the decaying former bakery building and to transform it into a modern innovative museum. The renovations included new interactive training displays, updated artifact exhibits and a new light system that projects interesting images on the exterior facade walls, which can be seen over a hundred meters away. The newly reopened museum is great and has something for everyone. So come on your own, or bring your whole family and learn something new about science and technology and be blinded by science! If you like my reviews, videos or photos please give them a thumbs up.
Went during the last hour just to stroll around. It's nice that admission is free during that time. The building is great and the exhibitions interesting, especially the large, historic rail trains. Although I don't think I would'e paid to go in.
Great museum. Very interesting and informative for all ages. The new renovations have added a lot more interesting areas. Sadly the space area is gone but thankfully the train section has remained, that was one of my favourite parts
This is a must-see attraction for entertaining science & technology exhibits, including the balance-testing Crazy Kitchen, transportation vehicles throughout history, vintage radios and televisions, space and environmental awareness, full-sized trains, automobiles, and live presentations (including virtual reality goggles)!
Updated but disappointing. Good for young kids. Be ready for pricey admission and pay for parking (used to be free}. *** edit - added response to S&T museum *** Thanks for the reply. It's great to hear that the admission fees are reinvested in museum programming! Please let me know when the new Science and/or Technology programming and content are made available to the general public.
Amazing exhibits , learned alot we loved the whole experience.
Very nice museum. Got there 20 minutes before the museum was free admission, which I had no clue of. Cheers to the counter rep for letting us know about that. Loved learning everything about the evolution of the trains and I found the representation of the logic gates to be very neat. Anyone can understand once you play around with that. Cheers!
Overall, good but expensive!! I went to see the Lego exhibit and stayed for the whole museum. As an adult, the Lego exhibit was quite interesting, but it was a bit boring for kids -- material is too mature for them to relate. The rest of the museum is very well organized and run, whether you are with small or older kids. In terms of cost -- be prepared to spend. Kids are allowed in for almost the full cost of adults, and the parking outside is expensive (about 8$ for full day). Furthermore, unlike all other museums in Ottawa, they do not have free thursdays with expended hours!!
A decent sized museum with an interesting and diverse collection.
Put aside a full day to come visit this place with your kids! Great interactive displays. The crazy kitchen is STILL in tact and entertaining to be in! There are trains, music, tech, and tons of industrial history. Enjoyed every bit as could. Also, it's free after 3:30pm, but closes at 5. Might be a good way to help you decide if your kids would be fine to spend the day. But if you're able to revisit a few days in a row, you could see it all for free, however the cost is totally reasonable.
Really cool museum, love the renovations however I'm not seeing why it took them so long to reopen if most of it it's still the same. Maybe its because I went at night for a Gala and the lights were dimmed but it seemed very much the same but with better cooler lighting and the interactive things that were there seemed to be updated slightly with newer tech (Xbox Kinect). That being said I will be going back again in the daytime for a full visit to check things out again and would suggest to anyone, especially families, to go as well as it is a fun museum.
Very cool place. There are lots of different exhibits both interactive and not. I loved the special exhibits - the vehicles etc. There is a great area for kids under 2 where they can interact with different shapes, and play with differently textured rubber balls. I'm looking FWD to coming back here when my child is a little older
After the renovation, it's now one of the best science museums. Can't wait for the huge collection building to be completed in 2019. It will be better if they can move some of the exhibitions to the new building and build more hands-on activities for kids in the existing one.
Excellent exhibits that are both fun for kids and informative for adults. Perfect size to spend 3-4 hours. We came by when the Art of the Bricks lego exhibit was on, and that was a fantastic experience. Price was reasonable too.
The most underwhelming science museum I have ever seen. The curators seem to have no imagination at all.
Ottawa has tons of great museums and the Canada Science and Technology Museum is no exception. I really enjoy the locomotives they have on display.
Every moment is intriguing. When going with a little one I suggest skipping to the crazy kitchen and kids zone so they don't get tired before getting there.
Stunning. I had such a fun time. Enjoyable for any age group.
Went here with a friend and was my first time visiting in over 15 years. The renovations done were really nice and really appreciate they kept the crazy kitchen. My favorite exhibit, although small, was their gaming exhibit!
Awesome place for kids. And for the kid in all of us adults too. They have the Art of Brick in the Special Exhibition section until the fall.
You must stay thete at least 3 hours. Coming back sure
Great spot for the younger kids with tons of energy. The nuclear fusion reactor emerged unscathed from our nephews' energetic inputs.
Museum is quite small. Mostly oriented for kids. Most of interactive stands are closed due to covid restrictions yet the museum charges full price entrance fee.
Great museum, super fun. It's not huge so the whole visit will last around 2 or 3 hours. The old vapor trains were amazing. You can actually go inside 2 of them. There's even a VR visit of one of them you can do. .but it was not really responsive to the hand movements so in the end we were a little disappointed. And this was a recurring theme there, they propose tons of hands-on experiences, but lots of them are defective :( they would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for that.
It's ok I'm really not impressed considering the money they spent . I preferred the old museum. What ever joker waisted our money should be fired
Such an amazing museum for the little ones and adults alike! The pyrotechnic show is highly recommended!
Great place to go with family or friends! The exhibits are great and interesting, the people are nice, and prices are reasonable for tickets and in the gift shop. Only thing I did not like was, that they false advertised that they have augmented reality,(it is in beta testing but not released yet.) All in all i'd suggest going!
So much fun! So interactive! I have been to this museum several times over a 45 year period. Every time there are so many new things to see and do! But you should never miss the krazy kitchen
First time to the museum since its reopening. Not a whole lot going on, but still really nice. Was able to see pretty much everything they have on display during the free hour that they offer each day. Totally looking forward to going back once the entire museum is built. Good place to take the kids though.
Very educative and entertaining center. If you love Science or want to inspire your kids, this is just the place to go. Saw a lot of displays on Light, Sound, Energy, Heat, Automobiles etc... Learning in a fun environment. Good for the whole family
The museum is very good. We brought a 9, 7 and a 3 yr old. There was plenty of displays and interactive artifacts. We had a lot of fun. There lots of bathrooms and the whole museum is currently super clean. The map was a little challenging to read and navigating from gallery to gallery was a little confusing at first. There are chargers in the cafeteria area. I would add more mini demos in the galleries and the museum workers should interact a little more. Lots of places for parents to sit. Teachers are free. Overall, a really good museum for the whole family.
There was a lot of cool stuff to see
After renovations this is one of the most kid friendly museums. They have done an incredible job of keeping old exhibits as well as updating. All the kids I've taken absolutely love visiting and can't wait to return.
Not alot to see here if you go with out the kids. There is a very "kid-centric" vibe to the place. I like to take the time to look and read each display and exhibit, including the special "brick works" I was there for maybe 2 hours and I had seen everything. A huge crowd was on hand, which made getting around without bumping into someone a task. Don't make a special trip to the city just for this place. The other museums are far better
Good place to visit with the kids, where they can learn something new. Unfortunately, because of COVID19 situation something’s are closed.
Wonderful place to explore - fun for my kids aged 2-9!
State of the art facility, very clean, open, and fresh. Very nice washrooms. Exhibits are engaging and eye catching. Lots of immersive activities for kids (many are closed due to Covid which was a downer). Parking was a bit confusing- front lot was full and we had to drive along the side over rail tracks which we weren’t sure if it was the right way- it is (extra parking at the back). You need at least 3 hrs here, with a 2 year old we lasted 2 hrs and say maybe half. The gift shop was awesome too!
Went mainly for a place for my 1 year old to play. Zoom area is nice for older kids. There was a sectioned off area for younger than 2 and it had a few different textures on the wall and a little raised area to crawl up. Not as great as it sounded on their website.
Hadn’t been since I was a kid. Glad to see some classics were still there, also nice to see new things. I loved every minute of it!!
Been here three times over the last two years; always a great experience! Due to COVID be sure to book/pay for ticket in advance.
Museum is recently reopened. Parking is terrible. There is a touch screen pay machine. Give plenty of time to find parking and then line up to pay for parking. Museum itself is brilliant. Very interactive and child friendly but also interesting for adults. Exhibits are well presented and thought out. We spent from 1-5 here and could have spent even longer but it was closing. We missed area H and I because we ran out of time. We loved going around the temp exhibit about gaming. Plus felt super old to find an iPod and Walkman cassette player as museum exhibits
Museum is beautiful since the re-opening. Great for kids, the exhibits are very interesting, interactive, and good for all ages. My biggest complaint is the price, especially the price of special exhibits. We went on Canada Day for the free admission, and opted to pay the extra for the special exhibit (Lego exhibit). Turns out they won't let you pay for the add-on for the special exhibit, they wanted to charge us the full regular admission, despite the fact that the museum was free that day. Quite a rip off. Most other museums let you pay an add-on price just for the special exhibit.
It was an amazing place! Every part of science is seen there! The was things about physics, chemistry, the environment, medical, locomotives, ancient object and their evolution. They had this great corner where they would put popular objects and their popular ads in the newspaper! It was great to see that!
Modern museum and family friendly place mixing science with fun to kids.
This museum is a mix of history and science, and technology because they have so many things which are related to evolving technology. Because of Covid, all the activities were closed, and you could see the things and come out. I had high expectations before visiting this place, but I wouldn't say I liked it that much.
Some neat things to see, but many sections are closed off due to covid
Lots of fun for both kids & parents... staff are very nice and do different presentations every day. Prices are very reasonable & full day parking only $8... all in all its a nice place to visit with family... also the shop at the entrance has a lot of cool scientific toys/souvenirs ????
One of the most special place in ottawa. A must watchable museum. Entry fee is $16 (if you are planning to visit 4-5 museum a day, then you will get offer in entry fee like, a package). It has great contents to show to people. To know more, to feel the history, to see a vareity of things. Minimum 2 hour is needed to cover up this whole place. I will share some pictures. Uts worth to visit this museum.
With covid, all the interactive stuff is closed. Made the visit slightly boring. Not really worth the money you pay to go at the moment. I'd wait till things open up more.
Amazing collection with so many interesting and fun artefacts and interactives.
Amazing collection with so many interesting and fun artefacts and interactives.
I came here over the Canada day long weekend so the museum was free on Canada day. We biked here and there was no bike rack so we had to lock our bikes to a street light post in the parking lot. The museum was not overly busy even though it was Canada day weekend. The exhibits are pretty solid and I enjoyed the Nintendo switch maker space they had going. I would recommend this museum for small kids and adults alike.
It's fine. I personally liked the old floorplan and content better, but the current one is pretty good. What makes this a 3 star experience was the controlled, wild children running around. That place needs soundproofing-- lots and lots and LOTS of yelling. Good for young children, but for not as fun for anyone with older kids.
Really like this museum, there’re plenty things to do for different age ranges so I can go with my toddler and newborn and feel comfortable. The only thing I would improve is the cafeteria, better food options could be offered.
Very cool exhibits and a fun way to spend your day. It's a really good place to take the kids. However, while we were there, there were many exhibits that needed to be repaired.
It's a wonderfully place to bring the kids, just be advised they may want to run through it quick and you may not get to see the cool things you want to see. If your a veteran, speak up when your entering, there is a discount as per most Museums.
it’s really nice & has great exhibits however because of the pandemic a lot of the interactive portions are closed. you should wait before going! there’s not a lot right now
Such a great museum only thing that was disapointing was the crazy kitchen etc was closed due to covid
Kids adore this place. We have a family pass so it's cheaper. The full price is expensive and would hurt my wallet. The old restored steam locomotives trains are wonderful and the best part of the museum in my opinion. Parking on popular days is a pain (and they charge money too!!)
Amazing museum to visit there was lots to see! For kids of all ages. Entertainment for children and adults. We will be returning again :)
It was fabulous, the Da Vinci special exhibit was so fascinating, I could've been in there reading and learning for 6 hours.
Very interesting spot, certainly a terrific site for a family. Lovely done, supporters everywhere, interesting artifacts and lost of fun for kids. You love locomotives? That's a place to go! Only sad point: pricing! Special event some LEGO exhibit (in English, product placement in a gov institute), asked 100$ for three adults and one child!). Insane.
We really enjoyed our day at the Canada science and technology. The displays are very original . It is not like other museums. Section for the kids is very nice. My favourite part was the fire demo. The lady was entertaining. She succeeded to capture my kids attention. I'd highly recommend for a family.
The renos are complete and the museum is looking better than ever. Some our favorite exhibits (like the crazy kitchen and the steam trains) are still here, and a ton of new exhibits have been added. There is a strong emphasis on interactivity, making this museum an excellent choice for kids of all ages. My kids are aged 7-12 and all three of them were completely engaged. There are also plenty of things to interest younger children and adults. When we went the museum had a temporary exhibit about video games which was fascinating and fun. There are wheelchair accessible entrances and washrooms, and there is a cafeteria which was fairly reasonable price-wise if you get hungry. We spent three hours here and we could have happily stayed longer. We will be back for sure.
Even with some interactive displays closed, it is still very worth the visit! The diversity of stuff to see there is pretty awesome.
Tons of interactive displays, wonderful information and great exhibits. The special exhibits are always good too. The kids play area is a nice place too. The Living Lab adds something fun for kids while performing interesting research. The Ingenium membership is awesome and totally worth it.
I must say I was impressed, compare to what it used to be. A lot of effort were put into renovating the museum. Very suitable to family especially those with small children.
So happy this museum is up and running again. I give a 5 for my young children's experience. More exhibits than we can see in a day and the kids had a great time. As an adult I would like to see a bit more info ie. The Zoom exhibit is so fun, but I would like to have info to supplement the experience. I know, I know, panels are boring to some, but I like being able to learn along with the kids. Great experience and highly recommend it.
The upgrades / renovations give it new life! Really wish there was a space exhibition or area. The kids areas are good. My two young ones liked it but said there wasn't enough interactive attractions that weren't a video screen.
Went with my cousin from out of town and his family along with my sister and her family. I enjoyed watching the kids get into the crazy kitchen, which has been a mainstay and legendary in these parts. Glad they kept it when they did renovations. I barely recognize the place anymore. Trains are cool.
We went to this museum as they were having a Lego Art exhibit. The exhibit costs extra but was worth it. The pieces in the exhibit were so cool and it was interesting to see how they were built. The rest of the museum was informative and fun to see. The "Crazy Kitchen" really through me for a loop but it was fun to see.
The covid measures are totally contrary to common sense and actually hilarious. The funniest was seeing the crooked kitchen closed and boarded up "for my safety" but 6 people in the "tiny house" in the next room. NERF THE WORLD ???? ???? ????
Only had a short time there, but very cool. Lots of interesting exhibits and staff were friendly. The gift shop kindly stayed open for a few minutes past closing time so I could buy some swag. Definitely recommended - for individuals, couples or the family.
Went for a visit my 1 year old daughter. She had a blast! She was captivated by all the lights, sounds, etc. She especially liked the area for younger kids where she could move around and discover.
I took my grandchildren there (12 and 14). Lots of fun and a great experience. The lego exhibit was there: you have to pay extra to see it. Awesome new building and the "crazy kitchen" is still there.
Visit for the first time since it closed. Much different layout and there isn't much direction in how you should walk around to see everything. It's nice to see the changes and they now have a special exhibit area. At the time of our visit it was video games which was really interesting. Asked about the periscope that you could look through to see the lighthouse but it is no more. ☹ Parkinglot out front is small but pay and no need to display the ticket, $8 max time parking.
A great variety of exhibitions for all ages! Krazy kitchen for the win!! Highly recommend waiting around for hourly demonstrations and presentations. They are educational and the presenters are always able to keep the little ones interested!
The crazy kitchen was just as awesome as I remember from when one as a kid! It was very crowded there though... entry fee was to much money for my experience. Had to pay for parking... but overall still fun.
A great way to spend a morning with our 5&8 year olds. Interesting, interactive and educational. Also, because we are members of the Ontario Science Center - admission was complimentary!
So much fun here. It's not particularly immense. But packed of fun stuff for kids and adults. Many things to play and learn. This is definitely a must for the family in Ottawa
Fun experience overall but a LOT (if not most) of the interactive exhibits were broken or out of order during our visit. The pricing was a little steep considering. The normal exhibits were great. A little confusing to navigate but a cool museum. Otherwise a pleasant trip. Parking is not included in the ticket price, so expect that additional fee as well.
Very good science and technology museum, with many neat exhibits and lots of interactive activities for child and adult alike. Very good staff and well laid out. The current exhibit on video games is pretty cool, including the opportunity to play on giant controllers. The only problem is that it is very expensive ($17 per person). It is hard since running a museum is expensive, but a situation like Washington DC where the capital museums are free to public would be of great educational benefit.
The museum is alot nicer since the upgrade. I find the layout alot more organized and better to adventure through.
In short, great exposition and displays, but operations to buy an entry ticket or food at the cafeteria is the slowest, less effective I have seen in years. …
Fantastic museum for the curious! There is something for all ages and the trains are always a hit! It's a beautiful, clean space with lots of fun activities and demonstrations! Be sure to check out the special exhibit and if you are a tourist, look into the museum family pass that is also good for the aviation museum and the agriculture museum!
Presently still inside the museum. Very disappointed that we were not told about a show that was taking place for kids to see. As a result we stumbled upon it just to see everyone get up and leave as it had just finished. It was also the last one for the day... Although everything inside the museum looked great and appeared to be interactive, many parts of the exhibit did not work/function when trying to demo. Would not recommend coming here until the front staff can indicate to paying customers things we should see or do and ensure they are on top of activities for kids to interact with when they stop working.
The museum has an incredible collection of steam-powered locomotives, including restored steam engine from Canadian Coast Guard ship, which was operational till 1974! Of course, you'll find there many more other things about science and technologie! Also, just for a short period of time you can find there a limited Ford GT mk ll lended to the museum by a private owner.
We were there last weekend. Friendly staff, lots of new exhibitions. It’s a good place bring kids in
Great day! Glad it is open again!
Always fun. We find something new each time we go. The zoom room was a huge hit today! Already planning our next trip.
Hands down this is my favourite museum! Loads of great exhibits and lots of opportunities for hands on activities for adults and kids. Loved the sound exhibit, and the opportunity to see the changes in technology in all areas of life.
I like the new layout, but it was really busy when we went so I didn't get to really look at the exhibits as much as I would have liked. It's winter, and their parking lot is horrible. Where parking around the side and back used to be free, it is now $8 for an all day parking pass. There were six of us and it cost $73 for admission (2 adults, 1 child, 1 teen, and 2 adult college students). To me, it seems really pricey for admission to a museum. A membership would be worth it for a family if you are going to visit several times a year; plus it covers the Aviation museum, and Agriculture.
Much more modern and organized than the old setup. Refreshed exhibits are more interactive, and the children's play/learn area is excellent. Even the restaurant prices were reasonable. My only complaint is that many of the exhibits show you the history of the grouping of the items you are looking at, ie the snow machines, but very little is said about the SPECIFIC item if anything at all. For example, there was no context at all for the trailer behind the old Chrysler convertible. Did it belong to someone famous? How did the museum acquire it? Is it a reproduction? It would round out the experience.
Would have given it 5 stars. While it was so unique in approach, fantastically exhibited, original and really engaging and informative, I think it misses out on the opportunity to have more hands-on, interactive components especially for their younger guests, and taking their concept of where « we » have been and where we are now to where we could be; getting our kids to think about « what could be next? ». Really fun, so glad we went.
I miss the old science and technology museum, especially the light tunnel, but the new one was well organized and fun. They have a lot of exibits with items a little all over the place which makes it quite interesting. Price was a bit high, I think for the size and amount of things to see. But still had an enjoyable time with the family. Walk through exibits are neat.
This is a great place to visit on a weekend with the family. There are many interactive exhibits and demonstrations toons that will keep anyone fro. 2 to 200 engaged.
Phenomenal museum with a lot of goodies. Kids loved it. We loved it. Admission is inexpensive for the experience.
Awesome experience, great exhibits.
A nice place to visit, especially if you have a family. Very interesting things to see and explore. They offer shows for kids and the family and it’s well kept with a good variety. Worth the price. We weren’t able to experience everything due to the health restrictions in place. Parking could be a bit of an issue as there aren’t plenty of parking spaces, and you have to pay for it.
A must see Ottawa attraction!! This is a very well laid out space with tons of interactive activities. Came here on the Friday of March break and even with the camps going on, we were able to be hands on with every exhibit. Compared to the Science centre in my hometown, this one is much more manageable as we were able to see all the quality programs plus take in a demo in one afternoon. The child (6), adult (39) and senior (74) all enjoyed the museum immensely!
It is my favourite Museum in Ottawa, great for kids and interesting for adults. There are shows and 12 and 2:30 and they are awesome. Some sections are closed due to vivid, and interactive material as well. However it is still a nice place to visit
Came here for the free 4-5pm hour. You can definitely spend more than 1 hour here. Very interactive museum for children. Had a 6 and 2 year old and they were both very entertained. No electric car charger on site which I find weird for a science and technology museum.
Unfortunately the pandemic closed off the best sections for kids to try out. My kid loves to come to this museum and one of the favourites is the crazy kitchen. That was closed. The soundproof room was also closed. A number of the hands on features were also closed. It was disappointing unfortunately, especially paying full price of admission and expecting that the best areas will be available to enjoy. I won't come back until all areas are available again and then paying for full price of admission is justified.
Crazy busy between Christmas & New Year's but the results of the renovation are amazing. Loved it. Took 4 adults but it's perfect for kids of all ages. Best parts? The trains are still there & the Quantum Physics Section is comprehensible!
expected to have all the space and astronomical things as well but came to know that they are moved to the aviation museum! The ticket price is expensive compared to the contents it's providing there for a show. For example lifecycle of bicycle or washing machine, refrigerator etc. Well of course these are parts and parcel of Science/Technology but I didn't find these interesting for a 20 bucks visit. There are few couples of car models and Trains that I find interesting. Other than this, not a great or highly recommended place, since I have seen a lot of (in terms of contents) museums in Canada, in other provinces.
Art of the brick exhibit was amazing, saw so many Lego sculptures of famous paintings and sculptures!
Fantastic! Interactive exhibits with historic artifact. A great way to get kids and adults into science!
Beautiful and clean museum full of amazing science things. It was a little disappointing that many many exhibits were closed due to Covid or renovations, but overall still a great place to visit if you are a science nerd like we are. The gift shop was awesome too, and we bought some fun sciency things.
I found it disappointing. 156 million spent on renovations. At least 4 exhibits with a sign stating the exhibit was broken. It appeared smaller than the old space. Big play area for young kids but other exhibits outside this area were also targeted to young kids. I was just extremely underwhelmed. My 15 year old daughter was disappointed as well. I went late on a Sunday when it was free. If I had paid 2 $17 entrance fees I would have really felt cheated. The gift shop has been gutted. No more little things for the kids to get at a low price. Far fewer items in general. Buy your science kit at the dollar store. Save a fortune. There is a building under construction so that may be another part yet to open. Maybe I missed something but I walked around twice hoping I had. No such luck.
Amazing place, even with some of the galleries closed due to COVID. Probably one of the best museums in Ottawa to go to, especially if you have young kids.
Wow! Looking to spend the day with your family and be fully captivated with the modernization of one of Ottawa's favorite museum's, then the newly renovated Science and Technology museum is for you. Complete with the renouned, and unaltered "crooked kitchen " , ancient locomotives and various interactive displays, one will find something for all age groups. The entrance boasts Canada's largest LED display, running a video loop of differing scientific achievements and other eye candy effects. It has to be seen to be believed. Visit it once and you'll be planning your next visit back.
Very nice, newly renovated museum. Has a lot packed into it for a museum, and is very fun. Great exhibits include the silent room, which has absolutely no echo, the crooked kitchen exhibit, the locomotives and more!
Our first visit since the new renovated building has opened and was not disappointed. Great new themes and displays and some classic ones that have been updated. Great to see the Crazy Kitchen! Relived our younger years when brining the kids in the past. As an adult you will have fun too. Miss the Chick-a-lator though!
Newly updated and full of exciting exhibits for all ages! There is truly something for everyone with exhibits and displays designed for younger ages, and older ones too. Some exhibits I especially liked were the sound proof cube, tiny-home, and the deconstructed smart car.
We always have so much fun! Is an amazing museum!
We were very impressed by our first visit to the newly renovated Canada Science and Technology Museum. As you can only take in so much on such a visit, we focused on transportation, quantum physics and the crazy kitchen. The shear size of the locomotives immediately catches your attention. Each of the eight giant wheels on the largest locomotive towered over each nearby visitor. It was hard to imagine how an everyday track could hold such a giant. The quantum physics space was very thoughtfully laid out. The first section did a nice job of introducing basic concepts and the second section identified applications. Also very useful were the biographies of the contributing physicists and the map of their institutions. The crazy kitchen was something I want to introduce to our grandkids when we bring them for a visit. It is a great introduction to the concept of perception. We obviously visited just a fraction of all the exhibits and look forward to bringing the rest of our family to this very interesting destination. Maybe we missed it but it would be useful to have a display explaining the outcome of the adjoining building under construction.
This is our favorite place to go to with our small children. A great place to explore science from a young age all the way to adulthood. There is something for everyone. We live the toddler and baby play are which is gated so they can't escape ????
Amazing! Big, interactive and well thought out. Amazing place to bring the family!
I loved the museum. I went with my kids they loved the interactive panels, trains, cars. There is a number of technical devices developed in the history.
Itn memories there as a kid are amazing. Went there today and realized it was better as a kid. I look around and see the place overwhelmed with more making the same memories and discoveries.... It's for the kids. Making science fun and engaging. It was a little ironic to see many tech displays not functioning in the tech Museum, and so soon after a renovation that took forever.... But again, the kids just moved on to the next button and blinking light.
Great for older kids. The kid zone is the only place good for toddlers and babies. My one year old had a blast in the play area but was having trouble in the main museme not being able to play
Was pleasantly surprised when we visited the Science and Technology Museum. They have a wide variety of displays and my kids thoroughly enjoyed them. The special exhibit was Video Games which showed the history of Video Games which I appreciated more than my kids did. Parking was quite limited. We got there early so we were able to find a close spot. It was $8 to park all day which was also valid at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum which we visited after so that was a plus. We have a family membership at the Ontario Science Centre as we live in Toronto and they have reciprocal membership with the Science and Technology Museum so we did not have to pay any thing else. We just showed our membership card.
So interesting and engaging for young and old! The set up allows for easy flow from one section to the next without having to see everything in a linear order. There are many enriching, hands-on activities for children of all ages. I loved the fact that you aren't forced to exit through the gift shop.
My boyfriend and I both visited this museum as teenagers, and decided to revisit it over 10 years later. Despite being in our late twenties, we still found many cool exhibits and attractions within the museum that interested us! It was fun seeing families with young children as well, as the staff paid very good attention and peaked their curiousity. The parking was a tad confusing, given they're renovating, but there's TONS of space at the back of the building (follow the green P signs!!!). We especially enjoyed the traveling Da Vinci exhibition (worth the $5 extra). We'll be back, with our younger nephews!
Lots to see and do..the treasure hunt is challenging and fun.
I am from Brazil, I liked a lot the visit to Canada Science and Technology Museum, it was so interesting and sometimes they have there shows that make everything better! If you like technology and the history of it you defitly should go there!
The museum was recently updated after a very long time. There are numerous little segments that showcase scienec and tech over the years. The exhibits are simple, but are well described and great graphics to keep kids and adults captivated. Lots of hands on experiences and experiments for the curious minds. Kids will have a ton of fun. It is, however, quite expensive for the experience. Parking isn't cheap either.
Great place to take your kids to. It was renovated and if you have re-explored it since your childhood, worth the trip.
This is an amazing museum. There are a ton of interactive activities that anyone will find enjoying, covering a wide variety of areas, from transportation to housing innovations. It's much more open and available, when compared to other museums which are more restricted. This is a must visit for a trip to Ottawa.
As an adult this is not the place to come. Found it dim lite and little to read or do. Many items were very randomly placed with little to no explanation of what or why they were there. I can see the pull for kids but found there was no flow to the exhibits. Wished there was more of our space program and more inviting areas to inspire young minds. Parking is not free and far from the building. Go to other museums you will get your money's worth elsewhere.
Underwhelming, it's beautiful inside and modern but they removed the rocket and spaceship to display it at the Aviation museum. It was great the way it was before... The static ball is also gone. Essentially you pay more for a lot less. I have been waiting over 2 decades to revisit this finally with my stepdaughter... Disappointing and overpriced. Would not recommend any longer, this used to be a cool place.... Any way to get a refund?
Great place for young kids. Need a few hours. After the update, museum seems smaller. A few nice additions especially the children area. Lots of space. Good ol train is still there. :) Science show is educational and entertaining.
This my first time back since it's been renovated. It's is an excellent valuefor the family. 43$plus tax for a family of five for the day. Excellent exhibits interaction. lots to see and do.
We were a group of 3 adults and two kids aged 2 and 13. Entertaining for all. Plenty of hands on for the kids. Nice to have complimentary coat check.
Overall pleasant experience my son and I have, worth coming. My first impression was quite remarkable due to the recent renovations made to this museum. This consortium brand added the latest of high-tech gadgets to most of the exhibits, such as; flat LCD touchscreens, interactive gadgets for the kids, latest audio & visuals, and other features resembling game consoles meant to provide educative info. All seems well. The pricing was adequate and despite high volume of visitors I didn't feel overwhelmingly being crowded. However, I noticed that despite these modern additions I did not feel that the exhibits themselves were completely been replaced. The old steam locomotive hallway exhibit is the same, and most of the permanent exhibits (artifact alley, crazy kitchen, great outdoors, earth to us, etc.) are almost the same. The museum even removed the fibre-optics suspended fun tubes for the kids. I guess this was replaced by the ZOOM innovation zone for which my son didn’t seem interested to spend time here. There was this Da Vinci inventions exhibit but one needs to pay extra $$ - quite a bit so we skipped that! The ONLY exhibits I found quite worthy was the Medical Sensations and the Sound by Design (at least to see the evolutions of how people listened to music: from the gramophone to the iPod). We did enjoy the science experiments being held every hour or so. Despite some of the setback, overall INGENIUM did a good job. BTW, I liked the outdoor picnic area to sit down and have lunch or rest under a canopy ;-)!
We were excited to go visit the new renovated museum as this used to be our favorite in the city. We were 4 adults and a teen. To be honest, we were a bit disappointed. There's no flow... you kind of wander from one place to another. There's a lot of stuff written on the walls and pictures but not a ton of actual items there. I know a lot of my friends with younger children loved it as there is a lot of stuff to touch... but all I could think of was all the germs spreading here and no sign of hand sanitizer anywhere! Overall we found it rather boring.
Enjoyed this with our almost 11 year old. Many exhibits remain closed so for small kids it may be less interesting as there are fewer hands on things to do
Nowhere near as good as the past setup. Two artifacts take up an entire wall. Limited interactive features for kids where you used to not be able to take 2 steps without something fun and educational to do. Zoom area is fun but seems more like playground than science centre/museum. Maybe they're still adding more?
It was our first time at the museum and my daughter (4 years old) loved it. She really enjoyed the train, the crazy kitchen and playing in the kids area. The Lego exhibit was great. The only downfall was the fact that we had to pay for parking.
I took my family here recently and was happy with the redesign after being underwhelmed with the museum prior to that. There was a lot of interactive exhibits, and a fun kids area. I felt it was back to being the good mix of education and fun that made the museum so enjoyable when I was a kid in the 70’s.
really interesting place.. would be better if the interactive stuff for children was open.. maybe some day again:)
First time being back since the renovation. It was amazing... really good quantum exhibit on right now! Go check it out!
I hadn't been since the renovations, they did a great job! The only suggestion I have is to put the list of rules at the end of the line for the VR thing. My son was too young to use it and we were in line before we realized (a young woman working there told us) and he was very disappointed and a few tears were shed. They still have the old trains and much more. It's a lot more interactive than what I remember from when I was a kid. Would definitely go back!
The soundproof room was the best part. The museum isn’t very large and it’s mainly the evolution of things over time. Not sure I care about the first iMac or blender made. I thought it would be more interactive and hands on. And the 8$ parking? Come on. The evolution of the cash grab on display, I guess.
Amazing place.. took my kids they’ve enjoyed every single second. Not sure when the bricks exhibition going to end but it’s a must go.
Really fun, family friendly museum! Lots to do and a variety of exhibits. The demonstrations/shows are fantastic. Lots of hands on activities for kids to do (when it's not covid). Downside is paying for parking, especially since you are out of the city core.
Always great time. I was my Grandson's first time there and he loved it.
I went with my friend (we are in our late 20s/early 30s) and we had a great time, the museum had enough information and exhibits geared towards adults and also activités for little ones even though some sections were closed due to COVID. We spent just under 3 hrs there and had a nice afternoon. Arrows and stickers on the ground made it easier to maintain social distancing and there was plenty of hand sanitizer available.
Amazing place to visit with kids with so much to see and do. The room where the different stations were that the kids could build things was the best. They could create floating devices and test their creations in a big tub of water. They could build a fan or figure out how to light a lightbulb and turn it off with a switch. Will return next time we are in the area!!
Everything closed with covid.. total waste of time for a toddler. Nothing hands on. Save 40 dollars and walk around a mall.
The museum is not worth the time. The new layout is just aded space. There is no interactive anything. Most of the buttons and that's all there is is buttons do not work. If the button works if turns on a light bulb. Wow! It takes 15 minutes to walk through. The displays are boring and more of a history lesson then science and tech. Which there is none. The most tech is the automatic door opener. Great 6.00 breakfast though.
Unless you have children I'm not sure what you'd get out of the experience. I've described the phenomenon to my friends as the disneyfication of museums. The museum looks better than before but I left feeling very unsatisfied. For a museum dedicated to science and technology, there's not much genuinely interesting and informative displays. It's also very pricey, and when I went it was crazy busy. Albeit I went around the holidays.
Overall nice visit, better in a way for adults, lots of reading / good info. Less hands on things for kids to play with. My only complaint is that their is no clear path / order to see the exhibits. You end up wandering around trying not to miss anything.
Great museum to take the kids! Very informative and interactive. Brings back the nostalgia from when I was a child but still keeps bringing in new things to keep up-to-date with changes. Fantastic museum!
Love this museum. I’ll never get tired of visiting this place. I always bring my out of town visitors here when they come to Ottawa.
The newly renovated museum is a thing of beauty! The displays are easy to interpret and spaced so you rarely feel crowded. The gift shop is well stocked, and they kept the Wacky Kitchen and that is worth a visit by itself! Parking is not free, but not unreasonable either.
I always like going there but because of covid it wasn't fun you can't do much even the crazy kitchen was close...maybe soon it will be normal again
Went with a toddler. Nothing was available for children to interact with. Because my child doesn't read and is not interested in the history. We walked the entire museum in about 17 minutes. You cannot go on the crazy kitchen nor inside the big trains anymore. Not happy with the visit. It used to be so fun. Too expensive for that experience.
Many exhibits were closed due to covid however I would only recommend this place to people with young children. We have been to other science museums in different cities that we enjoyed as a child free couple but this one seems like it was only for kids
My first visit since it reopened, really good exhibits. Nice and modernized. Like the theater setup, drawer people to the theater activities. Would be 5 stars but we visited the cafe for lunch and the lineup was very very slow, only one person behind the counter on family day when they knew it would be busy. As well the parking situation is poor at best, I hope that gets fixed once the renovations are complete.
Great Reno!! The children's area is great. Lots to do and very interactive. They also kept the crazy kitchen. It's really busy right now because it's just opened, so having a membership is handy because you can skip the line at the front which can get long and time consuming. Definitely worth checking out!
The museum is very interesting with many different hands on science items and more. It needs more scientific expriments. It should also add more exhibits It has very good exhibits in the items it shows but it needs to have more in depth information and more subjects
Another great place to go to for a family with kids. A lot of cool collection from old cars, trains to little things like house appliances, lamps, etc. A lot of things for my little daughter to check and play.
Wonderfully educational and amusing experience. Staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable. Would definitely revisit.
I went last week and was disappointed. I remember it being much more educational prior to the renovations. They got rid of a few displays that really stood out in my mind. I was shocked that they would get rid of them. The step-by-step telephone exchange where you could watch the mechanical switches move as you dialled a number - gone. Young kids would not know about the rotary dial telephone. There was little info about it at all. The electric motor display they had - gone. That was amazing as it showed how electro-magnets and electricity worked hand in hand to rotate the electric motor. It was one of the best displays I had ever seen. Before seeing that I had no idea how electricity made the motor turn. This is gone. The satellite display was gone. They seemed to get rid of any sort of hands on demo display. When I went to the old museum 7 years ago, it cost me $6.00 to get in and parking was free. While I don’t mind paying a bit more, the cost last week was $6.00 just to park. Then I was charged $24.86 to get into the museum. There was an extra small fee to see the Leonardo DaVinci exhibit but the total cost was $30.86 just for one adult. That is more than 5 times the cost it was 7 years ago. I realize there’s inflation but wow. My salary has not gone up 5 times what it was 7 years ago. It seems very greedy to me and then they removed really good educational items as I mentioned above. I doubt I would ever go back to this museum. It seemed to be more of an art museum than science and technology in my opinion. They tried to wrap science around it but there was not much there to inspire young people to want to get into science in my opinion. It’s a real shame because it was once an extremely interesting place to go. What happened to it? Change of management? It’s terrible.
The new renovations made this amazing museum even better. My family spent two hours there and we barely scratched the surface of what was to see. The crazy kitchen is still there, and so are some of the trains. The kid's section is great for younger kids. If you want, get the museum passports. It lets into the Science and Tech, the Aviation, and the Agriculture museums. Get the parking pass as well. It cost us $6 for two hours.
My kids loved it! Lots of variety of activities for kids. Our Personal Favs: My kids loved the Crazy Kitchen; other kids loved it too. One …
Very interesting museum. Fun for the whole family. Some improvements needed at the cafe/restaurant: chicken left on the counter, hamberger patties boiled in oil to warm them up. Latte was average. Gril cheese was good.
Loved it! Very interesting and educational. A lot of hands on activities. Experiment presentation. If you lucky, you can even ride an replica of antique bike. All day parking is only $8 ( canadian ), which seems like a bargain for the New Yorker.
Great for kids and adults, loads to play with, touch and learn on. Trains are awesome, medical section fascinating. Well spaced so kids can run around and be found again easily. Plenty of parking, good shop and a cloakroom. I reccomend a membership if live in Ottawa as it will pay for itself in 3 trips and includes the experimental farm and aerospace museum.
Really fun day. Lots to do we stayed 3hrs and didn't get to see and do everything. Staff are friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going again.
World class facility. A true gem and well of cultural benefits. (appears that the higher oxygen content in federal museums due to lower attendance levels, means the stay for a five year old looks to be about 1 and 1/2 hours)
95% of things are closed off. They say they are almost fully open. Its not untill you've pre-paid and are already in the door that you learn how much is "closed". I understand that this mught be out of their hands as far a whats open but not notifying people with children under 5 years old that almost anything interactive is "closed" is wrong on every level. You have multiple staff wandering around and a controlled number of people comming.
The museum is magnificent. Everything looks great and new. It almost feels like a giant daycare for children. However, I might be in the minority but is it not suppose to be a Science and Technology museum. I decry the lack of content, and dare I say, some obvious big business influences; the video game section, the Apple Inc, for example. Most of the foundation of science and technique which brought us thus far is missing. I also agree that the museum has very little order or logic. Who ever or what ever group is designing this museum should visit the other museums because the role of a "museum" is to educate all ages and not placate solely to little kids or big business. Such a shame and a waste of every Canadians taxpayers money. Ohhhh Archimedes' screw (and all the other wonderful inventions and innovations prior to the renovations), I miss you....
Great for a family outing! Lots to see and learn.
First time there. During COVID time. You can spend 2 hours easy. Nice historical locomotive trains.
We have seasonal passes and it's worth every penny. Kids love it and there are great things to see such as the trains. The shows that, very nice too
This museum is AWESOME. Been there 4 times and still haven't seen all of it. Very fun and engaging for kids AND adults alike! They are also holding special presentations frequently, so a year pass is definitely worth it!
As a child, I loved to frequent the original Museum of Science and Technology (I loved the crazy kitchen, which yes, is still a staple), and was excited to see the new and improved museum. Well laid out, and a plethora of information. We really enjoyed seeing all the artifacts in the artifact hallway, as well as the locomotives I grew fond of as a child. I will admit I was a little disappointed that the museum definitely appears to cater towards those under 10, but that is understandable as not many science and tech museums are aimed at those in their late-20s. Great experience that I will definitely recommend.
Inspired and inspiring new exhibits are to be found at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, as well as many beloved old favourites such as the locomotives and the crazy kitchen. We went to see the current special exhibit about Leonardo da Vinci and it did not disappoint. Unsurpassed art and ingenuity on display -- could have wished only that the area devoted to him might have been larger. The staff there were very pleasant and helpful. Some very good offerings in the Museum Café (tasty hamburger combo), and lots of comfortable seating. This is a great experience for both adults and kids!
Good place to visit with the kids, where they can learn something new. Unfortunately, because of COVID19 situation something’s are closed.
Lots to see, but interactive exhibits are closed “for our safety”.
Great place, but I expected more with the renovation cost of 80 million dollars. There's a nice big building being built beside it, so I hope it'll be something we can access. Many hands on exhibits we're out of order or even broken. Overall, a good experience. I enjoyed the old, and the new. My last comment is that I didn't like the pay parking, that seems like a little bit of a gouge for families in the area that's not even close to downtown.
I visited the Science and Technology Museum in August 2019 with family and loved it. The recent renovations looked great. They kept the "crazy kitchen" from the old museum! Overall, a great experience for both adults and children. My favourite parts were: the room with winding hallways that absorbed sound so by the time you're in the middle it's creepily silent, the showcase of audio recording tech over the decades, history of various household appliances technology, and the trains. We went on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. It took us maybe three hours to see everything including the Leonardo di Vinci special exhibit.
It would have been better if some of the displays weren't closed because of COVID. Otherwise it was good
It was good, lots there to view but because of covid there were some things unavailable .
Great experience, my son loved it even if things were blocked off.
Good but not great. This was always my favorite museum before the renovations. Because they were not downtown it always felt like they tried harder to get people to visit. I was excited when the new museum was opening. First off, I went during March break so I won't speak to how crowded it was. It was wild. But the new design is a little confusing. After leaving we were never fully confident we saw everything (and sure enough my wife who went a week earlier missed an entire section we visited -the quantum exhibit). The cafeteria was not very good. I didn't have high expectations but it pretty much has fried food and salads. Not much in between to offer kids. I would recommend packing a lunch. Finally, this is a great celebration of past technology but as a technology museum I'd also like to see more emphasis on developing and emerging technologies alongside old technologies. My kids barely understood what a telephone looks like let alone understand that the smart phone in my pocket is the evolution of a telephone. I hope as they evolve and change up their installations they think about this. We will be back. Almost worth the visit to see the Ford GT.
Children running around everywhere! I was overwhelmed by the number of kids that parents let run around and jump everywhere. We were trying to read about stuff and kids would jump/push their way infront of you to push the buttons or spin the wheel. It was very annoying. The cafe was extremely slow. I ordered a hamburger which according to the menu was "beef patty, lettuce, tomato, pickle, special house sauce" I got a patty with cheese on it, a handful of lettuce, one small slice of pickle (he scraped the bottom of bucket for it) and that's it. I asked about the tomato and the man's response was "well looks like we are out" instead of going to the back to get more. I didn't want cheese on it so he gave me a new bun top and scraped off the cheese the patty then returned patty to my toppings. I was not impressed at all. After waiting 30-45 min in line, I expected more than just lettuce, meat and bun!

Kids had a great time, very interactive and fun, lots of things to see and do. Maybe the best museum in the region to bring kids too. It's great for all ages though as they have a lot of "time lines" or various products from past to present that invoke nostalgia for sure, from gaming to appliances. Great place all around. Plan on spending a few hours easy.
Really enjoyed the visit, the exhibit's are fun and informative. However most of the interactive ones have been shut down due to covid. For that reason I an giving them a 4/5 for the time being. I'll try them again sometime after covid.
Fun place to bring your family and kids. They offer live science experiment throughout the day to keep you engaged. It is interesting to see the how innovative Canada has become showing technology from the past to current time.
Lots of fun kids things to do
Great place for kids. Eating area need a bit more cleaning. Extremely hard to find parking
Really cool place with a lot to look at and interact with. They also have science shows that are free where instructors demonstrate different science experiments. I think they may have a birthday area if your interested and they also have a cafeteria but it is a little hidden inside the building. Just hang a right when you walk in after buying your ticket. My family loved this place.
Great new exibits very up to date tons of fun for young kids
Fun place to bring your kids! My son just loved the older technology and pushing the buttons.
A trip to the Canada Science & Technology Museum is a great experience. There's so much to see and do. A great place to learn. Once you go, you'll want to go again. The museum is not only for the kids, it's for adults also. May God Bless you. Cheers. ????????????????????❤????????
Great place to go with children. My son and daughter loved touching everything and did not want to leave. There is a lot of really interesting items to see and lots to try. The only 2 downsides are the paid parking and the somewhat confusing layout. They supply you with a map; however, it would be nicer if there was a specific order to walk through. Overall though, I recommend it.
The museum was pretty neat and have a good range of exhibits but for the price we paid i would expect more. They had many exhibits closed/ hidden due to restrictions so they should have provided a discount on the tickets instead of charging full price like street fraudsters.
Very beautiful and interesting. Some exhibits not accessible because of COVID restrictions.
When our kids were young (1-8 years old) we were TechMuse museum members which includes membership at: the Science/Technology, Aviation Museums and the Central Experimental Farm. All three museums were tons of fun for the kids. Each museum was a great saturday morning activity and good for between 1 to 2.5 hours. All museums have lots of hands on things the kids can play with as well as enough interesting stuff for adults. They outgrew going to the farm first. But still like the occasional visit to both Science and Technology and the Aviation Museum. Aviation also had a great preschool program one day a week that the kids were brought to. These last two museums are definitely worth a visit by tourists if you are into the subject matter.
Ingenium donates to many of the various charities that I volunteer for. They always give attendees an amazing experience. The new renovations are beautiful and there are a lot of great interactive experiences for all ages.
This is a great new museum. The displays were interactive enough to keep our kids (5-7) excited and engaged. The full size locomotives are amazing to have inside. Hopefully they can get them more interactive over the next few years. Crazy kitchen is interesting. There is a camera with a screen in view of entry and exit doors, so if you want to send your kids in, you can still see them the whole time. Good for parents who are easily disoriented.
Very much updated since our last visit in 2008 but a far cry from the Ontario Science Centre. Positives are the throughly modern facility in terms of lighting, architecture, bathrooms and open spaces. On the downside there are not enough interactive exhibits for children. Lineups form up behind most of the items which detracts from the learning and exploration activities. The Zoom section was a well designed space and kudos for the private parenting room for the babies. I did miss all of the space content that I remember the museum having previously, perhaps this is rotated back in on occasion. The parking was also a major mess with sections closed off, poor signage and dead ends. A proper site plan for vehicular traffic seems to be lacking.
This was a really fun and interesting museum! CAF members can show their ID for free admission, and I believe students have free admission too (don’t quote me). The selection of exhibits are diverse, and there was a person demonstrating some kind of rocket related science. The place is expansive and has a surprising amount of trains. One of the better museums I’ve been to!
Amazing place to spend some quality time with the family or just on your own. The remodel has breathed new life into this place and the kids area is excellent. I highly suggest that you get the membership as the lines can be long and this allows you to skip the line plus it covers parking of our choose that option.
At 20$, the entrance fee is quite steep. I was honestly a bit underwhelmed. I found that the exhibits could have been so much more far reaching an cover basic tenants of science in an interactive and engaging way (the atom, the cell, DNA) etc...It felt much more of a visual display then an actual attempt at trying to convey a concept or idea (which is what I think they should be aiming for). Kids seemed to have fun on certain activities but they were mindlessly hitting putting without actually understanding why they were doing so. I'd recommend going once.
We were visitors to Ottawa and used public transit. It was a bit of a hike to get into this place from the bus stop. Snowy unshovelled walkways leading to the museum made this VERY difficult. Displays were nicely done but a limited number of artifacts. Lighting was awful and could not read some of the descriptive panels. Very gloomy over all; poor lighting. Great museum for kids under 10.
Always fun for people of all ages. I've gone many times since I was a child and have taken my 5 children there as well as the children and adults with special needs that I have worked with over the years. Everyones favourite museum Id say. Seems ridiculous to pay for parking though considering that so many people visit from out of town.
There were a few attractions closed due to Covid-19, but still a very fun thing to do on an evening.
Great, interactive experience for the whole family! Would give 5 stars, but about 1/3 of the museum is closed for COVID, but of course this is not reflected in the price. Also, a bit annoying to have to pay for parking in the middle of an industrial park. Staff was friendly and patient and (unlike other public places around Ottawa) touch services were regularly and thoroughly cleaned and hand sanitizer was available everywhere in the museum. Probably more interesting and easier to get to (by car) than the Museum of History, so don't miss it!
Lots of really cool exhibits to look at and enjoy. The demo stage in the hub is a great place for kids to learn. Would greatly recommend it for families. A really interesting place to visit.
Very interesting, interactive museum. Free admission in the last hour of operation each day (4-5 on Saturdays).
The new look of the museum is very nice. I especially liked the fact that there were many attendants around and so it felt safe for the kids to tear around. I took my two grandkids there for the first time and was disappointed. I guess I am stuck in the past but my opinion is if you brought back the "Chicken dome" (where you can actually view the chickens hatching) it would be a far more attractive place to visit. The trains, most of the instruments were welding so one could only pretend. Again not like it used to be, where you could also actually climb into the passenger part, really feeling the old times.
A great museum, with a lot of interesting and educational exhibits. Very young kids may not understand some of the information contained within, however there is a kids zone (0-8 years of age) where they can explore and have fun.
Great for all ages. I loved coming here when I was younger and in university.
Whish we could have some details about experimentation done during the day. But otherwise, the expositions was interesting.
First time going since the remodeling. Exhibits were really well done with plenty of interactive installations to keep the kids interested and engaged. Would definitely recommend. -But- one word of advice if you're planning a trip over, bring snacks or make other food plans if you can. Despite that, would definitely go again.
Great place to take your kids! It is very interactive and engaging. However, it would be nice if there was someone overseeing the Crawler and Toddler area. On my last visit there were kids that were at least 8 years old, whipping balls around while there were little ones on the floor.
Poor parking, poor signage and many interactive displays either broken or with very little instructional value. The themes were not linked, displays scattered without context and layout ineffective in conveying a clear understanding of the technology and its purpose, especially to kids. Definitely not worth the $50 familly entry fee. I expected much better from our national science museum.
Great museums and a lot of interactive displays
Wasn't impressed with the new museum. Parking is limited and difficult to pay for. Many of the exhibits didn't work. The things that did could not keep our 6 year old busy and engaged. He enjoyed the wooden trainset the most and we have a similar one at home. The sound section was interesting.
Fantastic museum. To do the whole thing including the special exhibit takes about 4 hours. Very kid friendly with many engaging and educational activities for all ages. Special exhibits are worth the small charge. The gift shop has an inventory of the type of things you might find at MasterMind Toys all very science and science history orientated with a focus on Canadian science.
Lots of fun for all ages! Unfortunately many hands on activities are not available and demonstrations as well, due to the current circumstances. But still full of so much knowledge and great pictures to understand.
Very cool, several hands-on activities. They have a play zone that still helps kids learn, but is for the younger kids. They have many different sections covering different things, but the map you get at the counter is really simple and easy to read. I definitely recommend this for a family trip
We visited this place since my last visit in 2002. Very decent place for learning about the evolution of science and technology.
The newly reconstructed Science and Tech museum reopened November 17th. At the moment PD days and Saturdays are am absolute zoo!! The rebuild was a complete success. For kids head straight to the Zoom section. It has a climbing wall, inclined tracks that they can build cars to race on and a cool wind-tornado sort of booth where they can play with ribbons gusting around in the air. Super cool!
A lot of the old exhibits are still around, however little surprising how many exhibits were in need of maintenance so soon after reopening. I think this place is better now for parents, but for just adults this place is ... Disappointing. I hope the wonder i felt as a kid is still felt by kids today, I'm just saddened that the nostalgia is not reflective of reality.
My husband and I were dissapointed. I personally grew up going to this museum. It had its charm. The space section is gone. There is zero direction in the museum. Lots of empty spaces and (already) broken interactive display items. On top of an expensive admission, parking was quite high as well and half the machines were not working. Its seemed scattered exhibits throughout. Overall the modernized it but It lost its charm... glad they kept the trains and crazy kitchen intact. Its just not what we expected at all.
Totally worth the eight bucks in parking! This place is huge! And there's a ton of stuff to do! I recommend giving yourself a full day, arrive as it opens and check it all out.A stroller for small kids wouldn't hurt, there are also many spots to sit and chill out.The demonstrations are cool, the host them in the middle, however with the lights turned down, and the slow talking it can be a mood killer. I don't recommend checking them out.The wifi is wild!!! There is also several pokemon stops inside! And a gym out front as well!
It may be a great museum but honestly it was dismantled due to covid. Went today and can only feel sad and disappointed, there was almost nothing to see other than empty spots and “closed” signs. Was a huge reminder of everything we have lost due to covid. I will come back one day though, whenever the “back to normal” may be.
We went to check out the car but ended up having so much fun with all the interactive learning setups they had there.
This museum is great for all ages. There is an area ( the Zoom area) designated for tactile learning where kids can burn off steam while experiencing science. All the staff and volunteers are very friendly and the museum does neat demonstrations around the facility! If you bring your kids there is also active language and cognition research going on at the living lab area (Wed-Sun: 10-3) run by the University of Ottawa.
More of a focus on resources and displays for the younger generation, but still a range of entertainment for adults as well. Hands on and interactive displays would be a highlight, as well as live shows that change through out the year (check their website for what's on currently). Clean facilities, friendly staff, plenty of parking and standarf Cafe food/drink available on site
I visited the Canada Science and Technology Museum on Dec 1, 2018 with my son, 10yo. The museum encourages children and parents to explore all the sections they have. I liked that Museum staff did presentations of how sound frequencies create patterns. I think that in the Living lab the kids were also encouraged to build a flying machine from various materials and tested then in a wind tunnel. Overall we enjoyed the museum. For sure we will go back.
Very impressive rebuild & resurrection of one of the iconic national museums of Canada's capital. You don't need to be a tech nerd to appreciate the role and impact of technology in many forms has had on this country ---- well worth the visit. Take your time and enjoy.
The new Science & tech museum is great! Fresh new look, with some old & some new. Many fun things for children to do and learn. Trains are still there too. Great for all ages. Ottawa Public library offers free museum passes at all 33 locations to local residents. A long wait for museum pass requests but their Express area also carries museum passes available on a first come first serve basis.
It's modern, clean however they have removed some of the aspects of the museum I liked such as the data tubes walkway, dioramas and the submarine periscope. They haven't touched the crazy kitchen which is nice and they haven't done too much to the trains other then move the caboose away. It's nice I just wish they left those parts..
I gave 4 stars because of the issues at pay parking station. The station sits in the full sun with no covered hood, so it is impossible to see the screen when trying to pay. The instructions are very confusing and it took an average of more than 4 minutes for each person to pay. This should be addressed to simplify paying for parking. The museum itself is fantastic. The remodel and renovations have given this city a much needed modern museum for science and technology. We spent over 4 hours exploring the many exhibits with our grandchildren and will definitely make more trips.
It's fun but the best parts are closed ☹️
From 5-13 years, all had lots of fun while learning. The zoooom room had lots of things for younger kids to do, and play. Even an area for babies and toddlers to play, which is closed off with baby gates.
All the nice exhibitions are closed due to covid restrictions. Do not recommend for now at least.
Excellent place to visit. Kids will love it.
So much to learn and see . Very interesting and something for all ages. Need about4 hours to see it all. Very interactive.
Went with the kids a couple of weeks ago and we all had a great time. The train display was impressive and my younger son enjoyed playing with the toy train and tracks. The only part we didn't enjoy was lining up for tickets. Somewhat ironic that its the museum of science and technology yet you can't purchase tickets online.
While I love this place especially the steam locomotive hall, it really doesn't know what it wants to be. It is neither a true museum nor an interactive science centre. And the sad truth is it isn't sufficiently funded to really succeed as either. The artifacts however are well worth a few visits. Hopefully the recent rebuild and expansion will soon provide benefits to the organization and presentation of the collection. Sure would be nice to see at least one of the steam locomotives restored to operational condition but again sadly there is insufficient funding for anything so grandiose. Visit and enjoy but be cognizant of the inherent limitations.
Good for young family but some displays were inoperable and required repairs.
This place was awesome. There were so many exhibits that captured our interest and so many were highly interactive. I have 4 kids and they all enjoyed themselves. If you go with kids plan for 2 to 3 hours. Also, they have plenty of open coat racks to hang your coats as well as some lockers (I'm guessing for a fee).
We spent news years eve there and the kids enjoyed their time. If you spend some time there looking into everything you can have a very good time.
Very restrictive during covid. Could not touch anything, could not watch the show because of limited capacity. The closed the gift shop for no apparent reason. Not worth the money nor time.
Not very impressed with renovations - the museum is nice, but I feel like it is difficult to navigate since it is not well organized. It is not a linear walk through museum, it just has vague areas. I especially did not like this, as kids were just running around and screaming everywhere. I found that the museum is now very child oriented, and there is not as much content for adults as there used to. I preferred it before the reno, and feel like they could have done a much better job.
Love the renovations made to the museum. It is a great place to take your children - many new exhibits, plus they kept the best from the original exhibits such as the trains and crazy house.
Kid loved it ! Lots of things to explore and see.
Really nice museum for adults an kids, with a lot of interactive activities that appeal to kids, even to my 3 year old.
Loved itd had a blast it is realy worth it one of the best musumes.you can get in some of the planes. Lots of stuff for kids there is a little air plane they can use to move around there a whole play area.
Great exhibits. Very clean and efficient manner of visiting each one. Tons of specimens of birds, we were surprised how many we have here. Would definitely visit again. Great for kids. The dinosaur exhibit was fantastic.
Pros: Museum itself is beautiful, very modern and exhibits are wonderful. Cons: Being a very family friendly museum, kids here are out of control. Definitely bring a lunch if you plan on staying a while as the café is extremely slow. I will be honest, I loved the museum, but a large part of what ruined this for me were the parents and out of control kids. Kids running all over the place and trying to climb on exhibits made this not a great experience for me. For the interactive exhibits this is fine, but museums shouldn't be a place where screaming children run wild. As I said earlier, the café around lunch time is more or less out of the question. We waited in line for 30 minutes for a mediocre burger. Definitely plan on bringing your own food if you wish to visit.
A must-see if you’re in Ottawa! The newly renovated museum has many interactive exhibits. Although it is catered to young children there is still some interesting facts for adults as well
Felt very safe. Interactive exhibits unavailable due to covid measures. Great place for the kids to burn off some energy running around on a rainy day.
Good place for kids, lots of things to touch and Interact with. The steam trains are just as impressive now as they were 30 years ago as a kid. Try to get a museum pass to get in free from the library otherwise you're looking at a pricey visit for a family of four.
Some places closed overall not bad for a rainy day for kids.
This museum was a really fun experience for me and my loved ones. It is excellent for younger kids, teenagers and adults. They have a lot of great exhibits and interesting links to Canadian history to explore!
Don’t waste your time or money. They have shut everything interesting down like the soundproof room and crazy kitchen and everything interactive is shut off and you can’t touch anything. I just wasted almost $40 for the worst experience. Either open everything or stay closed. What’s the point.
A nice, bright, innovative and interactive place for the whole family. Kids loved the crazy kitchen the best. You can peek in for free during the last hour before the museum closes.
