Travel Dream West

An interesting, rare historic place with outdoor displays, well worth visiting

Josh Sears

A very quaint example of early settler history. The oldest building in Kelowna (1860) is located here along with several others similar in age. See examples of how the pioneers lived, worked and survived in those early years. Admission is by donation. There is one 'porta potty', and no gift shop.

First european settlement site okanagan 1859

Chloe Shivers

It was well kept and interesting, I loved the farming tools, also, it was quiet, there was no one else there! My only complaint is that the guy was mowing the lawn as we were there but other than that, it was great!

Mark Morrison

Great buildings. Some signage needed upkeep.

Marten van der Meer

Interesting small site about the early European settlers in the Okanagan region. The site can be explored in 30-60 minutes, depending on your interest in the documentation. It is well maintained. The admission fee is a donation towards this goal. A good visit if you want to learn more about the early days of "modern" Canada!

Loved Father Pandosy Mission on Benvoulin Rd.

Andrew Cripps

Although the buildings are currently closed in the pandemic, there is still a lot to see on this the original site of the buildings and the mission. There are many beautifully restored wooden buildings to view. The first buildings went up in the 1860s. It was decommissioned in 1906 with some artifacts going to the east of Canada and some to the new St Louis mission property in Kamloops. A walk around gives you sense of life back then and there are some interesting carts, buggies and agricultural equipment to see. You can see an early cabin on the site and I’d you get interested In the history head down to Kelowna’s Okanagan Heritage museum where there is another 1860s cabin reconstructed with some fittings inside to give you a sense of how it might have been to live in a cabin.

The place was closed when I visited but one could feel the peacefulness of the location. I am not religious and I don't feel that what the Europeans did (convert) to the aboriginals is good or nice. But this is a well-preserved piece of history which, if anything, can serve as a testament to the grit of people looking to better themselves and give refuge to others in their times of need.

Corvetta Curves

I have been coming to this place since I was a little girl and loved exploring the grounds then! As I got older and understood it more, I was even more fascinated! So if you have never checked out the the main house ???? with the one room school and the beautiful antique furnishings, you should take the time and stop by. The cost $ is by donation

Shanny Rann

Admission is by donation. Enjoyed the display in the heritage buildings but the ground was muddy after the rain.

Evan R

Very well set up and displayed! Lots of care has been put into setting up the whole area. We had a very nice afternoon walk around looking at all the display houses. The old farm machinery and buggys are always ready cool to see. Definitely a step back in time! Thanks to all those who take care of the place!

(Translated) It is already getting old, or it would be nice if the exhibits could hold a little more in the state, but since the system is financed only by donations, it is okay. It is impressively illustrated how the mission looked at the time. If you have it on the way you should definitely stop, look and please also a small donation there, so that the maintenance can go on.
