REVIEWS OF Maligne Canyon IN Jasper

Mark Prospero

The canyon is stunning but can get very busy

Travis Plugoway

Beautiful place to visit. No need to go past the fourth bridge, unless you want the exercise! Fifth bridge is a bit of a hike and views are underwhelming once you’ve seen what the first four have to offer. One bonus of hiking to the fifth is there are some safe spots to touch the water, refuel for your pet (on leash close to shore of course).

Amaninder Singh

Absolutely gem of a place to be at. So calm and relaxing place nourishes the mind body and soul. Great views throughout the walk. It is a long walk if you want to cover the whole canyon. The tracks are very clearly marked just make sure you carry the map, that helps tremendously to decide and discover the path.

Richard Clemens

Spectacular views! If you have mobility problems you may require some assistance to walk the entire trail. Trail is well kept. Will go back again.

Terry Figueiredo

Hiked from 1st Bridge to 5th Bridge area, totally worth it. Lots of nice picture taking spots and safe areas where you can get close to the water.

Chelsea Bombay

Very exciting place to visit. The trail has a medium difficulty. I'm a bit heavier so had to stop 3 4 times on return lol. Liking forward to visit the canyon in summers too.

Shakeel Qureshi

It was my first time to visit such a beautiful canyon, i would surely go back during winter ❄️

Mariola K

Great place to hike and check out this amazing formation!

Mike M

Very nice experience. The return path is through woods and very steep. Better come back same way instead of loop

Ryan Ward

Amazing hike and fall, a fun adventure to do with your friends and partner.

Jordon Call

Absolutely a stunning park with a natural wonder just out of view. The location has plenty of parking, it’s free, there’s a gift shop and restaurant with public washrooms. The canyon itself is stunning with amazing rock formations, running water and many waterfalls. There’s an additional bonus if you get to see the canyon with snow and ice. Be prepared by wearing good walking attire and footwear, and pay attention to the path you take as the further you descend, the more to have to climb on the way back out.

Cheri Funnelle

Wow, Maligne Canyon is a great place to visit. There is a very deep canyon with several very short bridges. The hike is beautiful and, at times, terrifying. There are several small bridges overlooking the deep canyon. They are not long, which is good since you can cross easily. The main path is fenced off well. If you take the short route back, there is no fence so exercise caution. There is a gift shop and restaurant at the canyon parking lot.

Jonathan David's Painting

Beautiful place for a visit even when everything is frozen over lol

Vicky L

Definitely a must see in Jasper during summer and winter time. Icewalk tours are available in Maligne Canyon. Easily hikeable for children. My kids are 6,4 and 2 and they were able to hike it/ slide down;) they were excited to see the frozen falls! Carried my 2 year old most going back but wasnt a hard hike. Must do Icewalk tour when going there.

Robert F.

Amazing experience. Beware the last and sixth bridge. Almost 2 kilometres from bridge 5. And alot of muddy wetness too. Went at 10 am on a Tues. and almost no one there yet. Bring water, snacks, and off. Steady game. Great time with my family of four.

Jill Greenlees

Maligne Canyon, along with Athabasca Falls, is an absolute must-see for those who have never been to Jasper and love various types of waterfalls to go along with their descending/ascending hike in this breathtaking area! It is truly awesome to see and hear the roaring waterfalls as they descend down. There are endless photo opportunities for nature lovers here! One tip: make sure that you are wearing footwear with a good grip since some of the rocks get get a bit slick when you walk on them.

Marina Privorotsky

Gorgeous canyon, great hike !

Olga Blais

If you've never been here in the winter, you NEED to visit. It's better in the winter than the summer! You get down on the ice, and look up at the waterfalls. Wonderful hike - allow two hours. It's convenient, very close to the highway.

Lynne Lien

Beautiful place to check out! The 6 bridges are beautiful to look over and the walk is very easy for any family to be able to do. The bridges are quite high and give really nice views of the waterfalls and canyons below. Most of the paths are cement or hard ground so any type of shoe is probably going to be fine. Definitely more of a walk than a hike but quite enjoyable nonetheless. 100% recommend checking out as a little filler for your trip if you wanna spend a quick hour and see some nice views!

Travis

It's amazing what a few hundred years of water flow can do. If you have little ones, this is the perfect short hike for them. You can see bridges 1 and 2 in a short 20 minute hike that takes you around and back to the parking lot. For more adventurous hikers, you can visit all 6 bridges. Maligne Canyon is a short drive from Jasper and definitely a recommended destination for all. There is also a tea house by the parking lot for anyone needing a break.

Nate Sullivan

So beautiful! Did the loop. Followed the trail to 6th Bridge then took the trail 7H back to the beginning parking lot. Really nice trail, beautiful views, steep beginning of 7H trail but worth it.

Crystal Scheelar

Loved this hike. The really cool things about it are: (1) you can make it easy and short OR a bit more challenging and longer. (2) I could bring my dog. My family, 2 kids age 11 and 9, hiked quite easily to the 5th bridge. It was a tad slippery in places, so wear good shoes. Beautiful views.

saptarshi mallick

You can easily do bridge 1 to 4 within an hour with time for pictures. The hike was easy as well. Really enjoyed our time here. Glad we didnt skip it.

Kye C

Beatiful!

R Felipe

By chance I could not get up to Maligne lake due to snowfall and discovered on way back down the Canyon lookout. Excellent trails short and long to spend the morning away.

Yura Bondarenco

Totally worth it. Very long trail and a tough one. Don't try to go with babies or stroller. 6 view points see as many as you like.

VK Kalra

What a beautiful place! It's an indescribable scenic wonderland!!

Bhumika Saivamani

Amazing views. We did the ice walk on our own. Everything we read said you should take a tour, but we did it on our own and we’re fine. Tons of people were on their own, even with young children. The entrance to the ice walk portion of the hike is clearly labelled and outlines the risks of entering the canyon in the winter. Definitely invest in a pair of ice cleats before you go. We just got some simple ones from Canadian Tire and they were great.

Nick Kaminski

I’ve come to realize that a 2 year old has better cardio than I do. The views were breathtaking, or that could have been my asthma. Still undetermined. Either way I used my inhaler. And the two year old kept trucking. I’d recommend this hike for anyone who wants to see the incredible power of water, and isn’t afraid of stairs that go both up and down…avoid bringing strollers like the people we saw regretting it like it was their life’s biggest mistake. Bring water. The water you’re going to see is not readily available for drinking as it’s too far away to touch and the amount of sweat you will produce will leave you begging for sustenance. Also bring a camera. I went on this charade with our group hoping for a new profile picture or two, and I was NOT disappointed with the ROI. Anyways that’s all for now, until we meet again.

Speedy Gonçalves

One of the best locations close to Jasper. Get there early if you can as the parking lot will fill up by mid-day. I'd recommend doing bridges 1 to 5 for a great range of different views. The path to the 6th bridge is not really worth it but has a great viewpoint a few minutes in. For more variety, do a full loop and take either 7f or 7g back.

Robin Yi

Beautiful certainly a sight to see

Tim Jacobs

Great sights and mostly easy walk. We walked from the 1st bridge to just past the 4th bridge. The 5th and 6th bridge are unremarkable but easily accessible from separate parking lots on the way out from Maligne Canyon if you really want to see them.

Chad Stephens

This place was unreal. The way the water has created the slot canyon is almost unbelievable. The walk was easy to follow with lots of signs and railings. You definitely don’t want to fall into this canyon. Lots of photo opportunities and signs to read. I also learned that it’s pronounced ma-leen, after the French explorers. Interesting for sure.

Js Boutin

Probably one of the best wonders of Jasper. Has a beautiful view with a steep trek. You should spare 3 to 4 hours for complete trek and view points in total.

Waleed Ahmad

Chateau was closed for ice walk tours only on NYE. Only a frozen outdoor washroom was available. The first bridge over the canyon had about a foot or more of overpack snow leaving barely any railing left so be careful.

Peter Kerk-Avezaath

Awesome hike through here. Fairly quick and great views from all the bridges. I recommend going early to beat the rush.

Bella Cons

I only got down to bridge 3 before my group decided to turn back. Incredible place to visit.

Joey Simon

Very nice hike and canyon. Take a short trail or long one. Be prepared.. return is all up hill! 4 stars only because the trail signage was poor. It's a beautiful place!

David Cy

Gorgeous place to visit in Jasper. The second bridge is the most impressive, with a 50 meter drop down to the river below. That's a lot farther than it sounds!

Magdoxi Medina

Beautiful nature and the water what it had done to the landscape

Kimberly Parasynchuk

During winter make sure you wear good hiking shoes that has a good grip on snow it can be very slippery

Brandon Zoras

Great place to visit In Jasper. In early April there was still a lot of ice. Crampons are recommended. Beautiful scenery.

Franklin Wu

I love this place.. Super easy to find We started at bridge 1 and walked down to bridge 5 then all the way back up with 2 littles kids.. The views are amazing with lots of photo opportunities, the canyons were great and there are good view points, its peaceful, the trails good but wear good walking shoes I would love to come back here and check ot out in the spring

Kennedy Paramor

Arrived in the afternoon and it wasn't very crowded. Did up to the fourth bridge and learned a lot about the formation of the canyon. The indication wasn't super clear but the first bridge starts off next to the restaurant.

Samira G

The canyon is impressive. Walkway is wet and can be slippy in areas - especially as it is uneven in parts. Beautiful to see the canyon. The teahouse/restaurant is excellent. We had a delicious breakfast.

Kyra Beaty

Best time of year to go. No crowds. And so beautiful.

Jerald “Jerry” Fuller

Beautiful spot for a walk. Our group walked in from the 5th bridge to the restaurant. It was about 1 1/2 hours round trip. Totally different walking through in the winter. Very cool seeing everything frozen.

Chantelle Duckworth

Awesome clean beautiful pass a wonderful restaurant and a beautiful sight

Jannelle McCarthy

Great place to hike. Wonderful views, many bridges. It worth 4 hours drive from Calgary!

Alice AbiRaad

This is another place with an amazing natural beauty. The most important thing in the trail to the bridges was the hand-rail to hold on. This was missing in most of the other trails where we went. We went to the first, second and a little bit of the third bridge and it was beautiful. Even though the water was frozen we had a good time overall. Me and wife enjoyed it this time and we will definitely come back in the Summer. I recommend people to were spikes and shoe chains during winter.

Doug Logan

This place is really good.Very well maintained trails!I was unable go on a icewalk since the winter season is already over. Queen Canyon looks so beautiful even with the recent flood which sprayed mud on the beautiful blue iced waterfall. They have fossil prints on the trail path which is pretty cool.

Cici Chen

Beautiful and enough space to get away from the crowds and still enjoy. Will have to come back in winter to see it frozen.

Malsawmzaua Hualngo

Breathtaking! The trail was a little slippery but nothing some caution and handrails can’t help with. The canyon is beautiful and I definitely intend to come back and do it again in the summer

Mark Anthony Catacutan

A must see on a visit to Jasper. Amazing canyon with great views as you hike down.

Hugo Lopez

This place is just Wow! Looking at how the walls and spaces are carved up with water is just incredible. Bit of a walk but definitely worth it. Kids friendly hike and a lot of traffic though. Coming back is of course an uphill task ????

Carolann Berube

What an amazing place in Alberta. It's a pretty good hike. You do need good shoes when it's raining. Everyone was very Covid Friendly.

Shawn Fraser

Nice trail to see the canyon and falls.

Denys Tsybka

Great views. A need to see place.

Adriane Jimenez

Unreal!! We went all the way to bridge 5 then took the 7H trail back up the face of the mountain. It was difficult but our kids killed it!!!!!

sanjiv kumar uprety

A must see summer or winter! Make sure to wear some sort of spiked footwear, it is totally necessary. I recommend starting the hike from the 5th bridge in the winter.

Mauricio Ramirez

You can get gorgeous views at this place.. Falls are so magnificent.. you can hear the roaring of falls from far.. the hike route is well maintained and protected by park rangers..

Farhan Dudde

Really amazing place for hiking on the lap of nature ! It is spectacular .There are six bridges and about 4 km complete trail loop for the walk and you never feel exhausted while hiking. The water is seen as if playing hide and seek in the canyon; somewhere it has hidden in a deep tunnel and other places it has opened up as a beautiful waterfall with soothing whistle. You forget everything as you walk there. We enjoyed hiking there in early August and felt the closeness with nature in true sense. After being in Jasper if you do not reach there you will miss a lot.

David Richards

We went on a hike around Maligne Canyon area in October. The place is unbelievably gorgeous. Dense trees, fall foliage, lots of climbing, waterfalls, canyon and wildlife. Definitely stop by if you enjoy hiking. And keep an eye out for bears and deers! We didn’t see any but there are plenty of signs warning people.

Banish Angural

Beautiful! Maligne Canyon was amazing! Spirit Island is a spiritual moment upon arrival. What a history it is has for Canada's Indigenous peoples, one to be respected. Absolutely beautiful and a great history lesson in regards to the sacred land and spiritual meaning for them dated back 8000 years.

Catalin T

Descent trail for family. A little bit crowded when I visited but I guess it's safer not to see wildlife here. Bunch of people and the noise scares some wildlife

Justine Mae

Maligne canyon is a great for a family hike. From the parking lot it's all downhill so on the way back it's all uphill which some would find difficult I'm sure. There a lot of different viewpoints to stop and see and the waterfall down the canyon is beautiful. It can be busy so during a pandemic it could be hard to socially distance going down the trails. It's great though so no complaints.

rosy k

Great hike with the family. Going from bridge 1 to bridge y and back is about 3 hours with stops at all of the cool spots.

Chris Schmitt

Always love a hike around the canyon. Try going on one of the longer loops.

D Tam

Beautiful little hike ! Nice and easy walk or you can go further if you want! super worth checking out.

Nathan Kezar

If you love a hearty hike with a view, you should visit the place. The hike is under a thick canopy of trees with atmosphere filled with rushing sound of water flowing through the Malign Canyon on the side. The canyon ranges from very deep …

jANsON Potato.

We were there on Dec. 28. This is a great place to explore in the winter when you can walk up the center/bottom of the canyon. Almost like being in a cave in a few places. You will need spikes if you plan to go in the center of the canyon, probably a good idea even on top as there are some slippery places. Is also a great place to visit in the summer.

Susan Rettaler

This place is exceptionally beautiful. A short drive from Jasper town and a must visit. From the parking lot, make sure you walk to at least the 5th bridge, don’t take the short and easy hike as you’ll be missing out on some amazing scenery if you do! I didn’t go to the 6th bridge though

Mudassar Khan

Amazing canyon! Ive never seen anything so deep like this. I love the mossy forest too.

insane247

An extremely rewarding trail full of surprises. There are paths suitable for all people.

Tahir Mahmood

A peaceful hike with lots of nature and water falls, rapids along the way. Do recommend this hike to all. Parking is limited there. Go there early to spend the day there and be one with the nature.

Joey Dueck

Nice hike in the late fall with lots of colors. Creek just starting to freeze, which also meant the pathway was getting a little slick in areas from freezing mist. Would love to hike in the canyon when it is frozen.

Jeffrey Michaud

A great place to go on a family friendly walk. The Canyon is much deeper than expected and depending on the amount of cold there has been you can walk up into the Canyon. Beginning of January the water was still running so you can only walk into the Canyon at the shallower part. There is a lodge near the start of the short trail with washrooms as well.

Shaun Driscoll

Beautiful canyon with frozen waterfalls.

Mano Jayasekera

Amazing narrow canyon gouged out by the Athabasca river over the millennia. Useful descriptive narratives line the trail. Most of the trail from the 5th bridge is not overly challenging.

Morris Lixin Mao

This place is spectacukar! Don't miss it! Great and easy hikes.

Tricia Small

Great view from any angle that comes with challenging trail. ????

Suba Kalia

Must visit on your trip to Jasper. The scenery and terrain keeps changing , constantly getting better and surprising you as you make your way through the trail. Loved every bit of it !

Scarlett Kim

Beautiful scenery. It would be a bit scary if you were afraid of heights. Path is in good shape and was not muddy. Was low traffic when we went so was able to walk comfortably with the dog without a lot of people crowding.

Ayaz Mohammed

In my time I have seen Many to alot of Canyons on multiple continents, however I have to say they Maligne Canyon is unique as it is extremely narrow and deep. You are greeted with many different types of water flow and rock formations as you progress down the canyon Criss crossing it over strategicly placed bridges. I will be happy to return for another exhilarating visit next time I'm in the park.

Al-Karim Walli

I have been to Maligne Canyon in the summer time and in the winter time. Seeing both seasons really ties the experience together. In the summer time you look at these raging waterfalls from high above but in the winter you get to walk down where those waterfalls are now frozen. The only issue, like any treck, is the people. There's often too many people or there's just disrespectful people. The views are amazing and there are plenty of great spots for pictures, you might have to wait for your turn.

Blake Buye

Georgous scenery! Worth the hike!

John Hanley

A beautiful site, some learning points for kids and adults. A short gentle easy loop of 1st and 2nd Bridge for those with energy or mobility issues as well as drive up access to 5th and 6th Bridges, so you don't have to miss out if you are concerned about the hike from 1st to 6th and back. Also, there is the option to have some of your party hike down and be met along the way. Many options. Beautiful and well worth the time no matter which option you choose.

Raymond

Great hike. Hiked all the way from the 1st bridge to the 6th bridge. The 6th bridge was 1.8km one way from the 5th, it was pretty quiet. It seemed like more people drove to it. Really enjoyed it all.

Mariana Marchuk

Spectacular views and photos can be taken at many different spots, each spot being different and beautiful. This canyon was quite unique as the views were really accessible and the pathways were well laid out. My children even loved this one.

Matt Rath

Beautiful walk along the water. Small children accessable. About an hour there and back to the 4th bridge.

TANUSHREE JAIN

Beautiful place, but lots of mosquitoes. We used OFF! Deep Woods, but can not last 30 minutes in the Canyon. Once stop for photo, there are 5 or 6 mosquitoes attack.

David Little

Beautiful canyon views the hike is great for people who have little to no hiking experience. Good for kids. Easily hit 5 bridges with any difficulty

Johan Cornelissen

Loved it. Very beautiful and clean. Great for a family day out. Love the different types of trails

Amit Soni

Was very nice peaceful place the food and service was 5 star delicious. One of my favorite places. The service is amazing.

Jarrett Villaran

I should post a 1 Star to Hide this Gem in the Winter. Did the Maligne Canyon Walk on our Own and it was Over-the-Top Awesome. So Fun, Adventurous and Full of History. There are Fossils in those Walls. Rated E for Everyone. The Photos Don't Compare to the Experience.

Daniel Lafreniere

Super easy hike with so many options. Feel free to pick how far you want to go. There are 6 bridges and all with different views. From what I understand, you can also access fifth and sixth bridge from another parking lot, so you don’t have to hike. Great for pets and families. Dogs devoted the hike!

Johnny Planète

Fantastic and easy hike for all family, go in the early morning, cause then it became busy and you wont enjoy the quiet time and the trail will be crowded

Cadyn Stahl

A short easy trail beside the beautiful Maligne canyon and water. For experienced hikers it would be 1 maximum . Kids and pets friendly trail not stroller friendly . Beautiful trail. Has a loop with 6 bridges. There is a car park and a restaurant close by. Can start from either 1st bridge or 5th bridge and follow the loop

Selina (Sphynxee)

I've seen it many times in summer but in winter, visiting the lower icewalk portion is magical ????

Bethany

Really fun walk!

Prabin Rokaya

What an amazing place to visit ... be aware if you go to the Fifth Bridge it's quite the hike back up ????

Dustin Baptist

A must visit place if your in town ! Amazing work of nature !

Sagidec Ursidae

Absolutely gorgeous. Easy access even in the winter

Ahsen Shah

Great views. Easier to get around than Athabasca falls if you're less mobile. Parking is close. Lots of different lookout points.

Exchiela Benusic

One can drive to the tea house and do a short walk to see the canyon. Or park at the 5th entrance and do a 2 hours hike. Stunning. Worth the visit.

Claudia Cortes

Great place for hiking as a beginner. Love the canyon and the sound of the water and wind.

Steve Murphy

First time visiting in the winter. As awesome as in the summer. Walking on the frozen rapids at the bottom of the canyon was great. Not all was frozen, watch your step.

Alexander Nachef

Absolutely stunningly beautiful

Keaton Ambridge

Beautiful hike. Make sure to save some energy for the the way up. Remember 1/2 of mountain climbing is up hill.

Jacqueline Telljohann

Must see place near Jasper...very easy walk/hike, our fovourite place to go when the weather is not that nice...you can get beautiful pictures here, just avoid "rush" hours full of people coming here in this huge buses/couches...then you need to fight for every spot :D

Josephine Libanan

Gorgeous views of an amazingly beautiful canyon

Brandon Clark

Beautiful, powerful, and loud. Amazing falls and so close to Jasper! I encourage you to come and check these falls out

Jaskiran Kaur

Very well structured hiking location. The creation of the bridges provided safe sightseeing and informative posters. It is easy to get to and accessible to all levels of physical capability.

Lena Mogrovejo

Well maintained trail and scenic hike

Krishna Patel

Ice cleats recommended. Overall, very fun experience!

Gurkirpal “Gurk” Dhanoa

Went here for a little hike. Lots to see and read. A wonderful example of nature. Trails are well laid out and well maintained.

Mega Gay

Absolutely gorgeous views of a spectacular mountain canyon. My favorite thing about this hike is that you can customize the length to your ability level. There are multiple loops and turnaround points that allow a natural end to the trail. Be careful after it rains as it can get slick and muddy. Due to the nature of the path, often puddles are unavailable.

Hafsah Fowmy

A must-see.

KARMA Hunter

This was much more impressive than we expected and very beautiful. If possible, I would recommend going on a weekday to avoid crowds on the path.

IRONMAN

The most beautiful place in Alberta. The hike is fun and the view is just absolutely spectacular! There is nothing more breathtaking than standing right in front of a roaring waterfall. I've been there twice already and can't wait to go again :)

Christiaan van Tonder

We had already been impressed with Maligne Lake, so upon leaving there we stopped at the canyon. Its just 12-miles outside of Jasper along Maligne Lake Road, and you might even see some wildlife along the shoulders. Maligne Canyon is the place where the Maligne River goes underground. Some bio-dye studies have shown that the underground passages are more extensive than first thought. The canyon is deep at about 160 feet, but narrows down to just 6.5 feet, and the river pours through some very narrow places. The trail is easy and the sights make this trip very worthwhile. There is free parking, as well.

Verni Virgines

Great hike and beautiful canyons. ????

Vidhi Pitroda

It's a beautiful attraction, definitely worth seeing once when in Jasper. It is very touristy on weekends, so it can get crowded. Last time we were there we saw a black bear cub on the top of the mountain. Keep some bearspray handy. We had our 2 kids ages 4 and 8 and it was not a difficult trail for them.

Yuchong Li

This place is beautiful! Would love to come here during winter and experience the frozen canyon

Duni

This is a nice hiking spot for an easy hike. Because it's easy, it's fairly crowded. We did some research ahead of time and read that bridge 1-4 were the best ones, so we didn't hike to 5 & 6. This made the hike pretty short (maybe 1.5 miles). The hike along the canyon is gorgeous. It's hard to see into the canyon, but when you can, the views are quite good. I thought a couple of the other canyons we've been to in Banff were a little easier to see into. You can drive to bridges 5 & 6, so we did. The views aren't that great. The canyon opens up and is pretty much just a view of the river. This is definitely a good place to come for a quick easy hike in Jasper.

Phil W

Beautiful view and scenery!! The paved part of the trail was great. The unpaved loop, 7h was slightly more difficult.

Kathryn Foss

Great hiking and spectacular scenery! Wear proper shoes as some areas of the trails are well worn steep downhill climbs with some gravel. Can be slippery.

Subscribe2me I'llsubscribe2u

It is amazing in winter coz the entire canyon is frozen and you can walk and enjoy the entire place. A bit far and about 5hr drive from Calgary on high way 93. If you wanna drive on 93 watch out for avalanche or you can go to Edmonton then Jasper and drive about 6 hr or so but the road is way better than 93.

Shayde Russell

Stunningly beautiful, and the long trail from bridge 1 to 6 and back is challenging

Alannah Rollinson

It was crazy busy but well worth it! This time we only went as far as 2nd bridge because it is pretty steep and hard on the knees. I love the colours of the rock and the different textures, great for Photography.

that's so crazy

Beautiful and terrifying

Evgeny Kirshin

Beautiful and only a few minutes from Jasper. Must go to see the beehive-like waterfall...parked at P11 and followed the trail to fifth bridge. Did an out and back trail.

Dilendra Wanigasekara

It’s beautiful walk to the canyon. The walkway at this moment is very slippery . Do gear up with appropriate shoes. The canyon is beautiful and river is partially frozen .

Mónica (monichor)

Great place for a hike. I'd suggest to take a trail along the river - it has a lot of scenic views of the canyon.

Rasoul Akhavan Mahdavi

Wonderful experience but in winter must wear winter boots with spike

Secret Guy

If you want walk around a canyon of 55 meters deep with water fleeing inside. Its a great experience. Multiple trails to do also.

Tazlin Kanji

Start at bridge 6 and work your way to the top. Its not a difficult hike at all. Breaksnout into differnt routes. Take the left route it doesnt feel as touristy.

Helmer T’naja

Gorgeous hiking trails along canyon paths. I had a great time there. It's a beautiful attraction, and this was much more impressive than we expected, I might be back again if I visit Jasper!

Oggie Pavlovic

Amazing place near Jasper. Do not miss the time tunnel and the old canyon left dry with the change of water flow direction. Tbh it's a beautiful stopover on the way to Banff from Jasper

Kimberly BZ

Beautiful places to visit here in Jasper with lots of things to do and offer. Hiking at its finest can be enjoy all seasons looking forward to be back on summer.

Sarmistha Mallick

Terrific place to visit in Jasper Alberta Canada

Leesa Michelle

Beautiful place to walk and enjoy the outdoors

CodeBlue FPV

Beautiful landscape, the sounds of the water is wonderfull

Dave Brandman

This is one of the best places to visit all year around. The canyon is easy to reach, hike is easy, but in winter time can be slippery. On the other hand, winter hike allows you to walk on the bottom of the canyon

R o3738

Such an Awesome view of the Caynon at Maligne Lookout.

Glacel Carretero

Maligne Canyon is a must see for anyone visiting Jasper. It's only about 20 minutes away from the town, and the views are spectacular. Almost every angle will give you the perfect photo!! There are a few bridges, and people less keen on walking can just hit the first few in under 30 minutes. I walked to the Fifth bridge which took about 1 hour with plenty of photo stops, and wasn't very physically demanding. We didn't end up visiting the Sixth bridge because of the distance and time restraints, but we did notice that there is a parking lot at both Fifth and Sixth bridge which people can take advantage of if you don't want to do the hike. I went mid-week on a September morning, and there were hardly any people. I suspect this is rare, but if you want a less crowded experience there are definitely times when this is possible. Definitely put this on your itinerary for Jasper!

Bill Wilkinson

Beautiful down in the canyon! There is a few waterfalls and fit for all ages! Me and my partner didnt have spikes but it would Definitely help to have!

Hope P

Gorgeous and easy trail. Heavily traffic and a must see if you’re in Jasper.

Hoggustina Hoop

The trail was almost ghosted...it was awesome doing the ice walk all by myself with no other mankind around in the early morning after sunrise...would definitely recommend for people who doesn't like crowder trails like me...

Justin

A wonderful hiking spot that can accommodate both easy and moderate hiking plans. The canyon and fast flowing water are amazing and can be easily seen with a quick stop, or opt to hike the full loop over an hour. Definitely something to see when in Jasper and not to hard to add to any trip schedule.

Pargol Sanaat

Beautiful place with breath taking waterfalls. Sadly very big tourist magnet which means you'll be competing for parking space and dodging people on the walking trails. The washroom facilities are small and there is always a lineup. It if you can just get out of the herd off the beaten track you will experience tranquility and peace... .

Glen Freeman

Nice trail. Nice views.

G C

One of our most favorite spots from our Rockies trip. The canyon is absolutely beautiful and has lots of bridges back and forth. We did the hike to the sixth bridge and it was amazing, lots of different views, and some higher elevation too. Would highly recommend a visit. Come in the morning if you don't want it to be too busy.

A M

Great place for a hike.

Christiana Beaudin

Amazing scenery and a pleasant hike! Much more to see than Johnston Canyon in Banff. You can take the lower canyon trail one way and the upper trail for the return trip to avoid the crowd and a flatter walk.

Barry Starlighter

Even in the rain, it's an extraordinary view. Would do again. 6 stars. Trails were muddy but it added to the experience which was awesome. This was my first time there and I plan on coming back just to relive the experience all over again.

Susan Hitchcock

Maligne Canyon is out of this world beautiful and natural at its best. One of the best Canyon and falls I have seen so far. There is a tail that is along side the water and number is falls. The trail is not wheelchair accessible. I would highly recommend visiting the Canyon if your in in Jasper as it’s only 10mims drive form Jasper town.

Julie Joseph

Awesome place!!! Really cool and fun to walk, just be careful some spot are slippery. You can also go off the side for a great view of the mountains and other trails.

Daisy Encallado

Unique and quite breath taking. You can hike in just a few minutes or a few hours and still see something amazing. The largest waterfall and canyon is right at the start at the main parking lot. Beside the trail head they have a gift shop and a deli and a sit down restaurant that is very good, recommend trying the meat platter.

Adrian Day

It is really beautiful and you can not close your mouth because it's awesome.

Michael Davis

A beautiful and accessible trail. You’ll definitely get some exercise in If you decide to go all the way down to the bottom. I’d recommend going in the morning or late afternoon when the sun begins to set.

m Rafi

I loved the canyon! Went there in winters.

Rick Stasiuk

We were pleasantly surprised about how dramatic the canyon is. The views from the first few bridges are terrific. The walk is slightly steep on the way back but we’ll worth it.

Ben Berland

This is a breathtaking hike with scenery and nature. Bring lots of water and a snack. It's not a hard trail so even kids can do it!

Prageeth Mendis

An easy hike with great views. The best views are closest to the parking lot

Chad Milroy

Refreshment for the soul. Such a beautiful place.

Y Wong

Gorgeous scenery and awesome hiking trail. The water that accompanies your down the trail is constantly refreshing and cool. Filled with informative and interesting plaques and diagrams.

Jiten Patel

Nice and family friendly

Aegis Loghic

Fun hike, well maintained.

Andre Zhang

Gorgeous and incredible hiking trails by the canyon. Amazing for the whole family and your pets too.

Matt Green

Good place if you can walk at least 7km

Cherish Jordan

Great place for trail walking. Can start at 6th or 5th bridge for a longer walk(1-2hours). But the canyon can be found at 1st bridge. You can stop at the restaurant called Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen for rest and food and can circle back to where you parked. There's multiple trails so you don't have to go back the same way you came

Sophie Wu

The views were so beautiful! Hike to all 6 bridges round trip took about 3 hours comfortably.

Pavan Jacob

Spectacular views! We started at the restaurant parking lot and the whole loop to bridge no. 5 and back took us about two hours which was around 4.8 km. From bridge no. 5 to bridge no. 6 was another 1.7 km one way which we didn't take. There's lots of stairs and ups and downs through the trail so maybe not the best if you have little ones. It's amazing how water could carve out through the rocks and make this magnificent canyon. A must see if you visit Jasper.

Sascha Guenther

It was so beautiful and peaceful. I am visiting from Ontario. Thank you for a good hike!

Andrew Elegante

Amazing hike during the winter months with the frozen stream known as the maligne canyon ice walk. You can take tours through the area but you can also easily do it yourself. Amazing views, flowing waterfalls and massive frozen waterfalls. Ice climbing is typically done on the frozen waterfalls. Great hiking.

觀光系黃姸語

Super cool place to walk/hike at. It was raining a little bit on the day we came down here, but still so beautiful. We checked out the first three of the six bridges and it took about an hour (including lots of picture taking). Hike along all six bridges for a longer adventure (2-3 hours).

Mario Lara

Maligne Canyon Trail was an wonderful experience as we saw twin rainbows and the force of water was amazing. It’s a must go place, cannot miss it. It requires hiking of about 5 Kms in a loop.

Anthony Yaseyko

It is an amazing place. Missed this many times in our trips to Jasper..but should be in the must do list for Jasper

Chieko A

It was a fun experience. But freezing cold, so better layer up if you're planning to do this. We couldn't do full on canyon walk as ice didn't freeze strongly enough this year. However, it was like half tracking and half canyon walk. Loved it and will cherish the experience for the coming years ahead.

Thomas Lee

Not far from Jasper downtown, the trail here was not really difficult as we with 2 young kids can walk through it easily. For me, it is a must see attraction if you travel to Jasper.

Lisa Rudkin

Beautiful hike. Remember to bring proper footwear, either spikes for your shoes or hiking poles because it is very slippery and steep in many places along the path especially in winter. There are paths along both side of the canyon that both offer great views.

Rog Edo

One the best falls. Perfect deep valleys, rocks, bridges, trail, cool moist air to give you a good all around tracking experience. Worth it!

Maria N

Awesome!! The hike along the canyon was intriguing - the canyon is so deep! Loved the waterfalls.

Jordan Majeau

Wonderful hike. Beautiful views from top to bottom

Taran Dhillon

Will do this hike again. Not recommended in the rain, pretty muddy so going back down the trail from the 6th bridge back to the start seemed like it was gunna be tough so we hiked out to the highway and walked backed. Was a long hike but enjoyable

Nathan Luu

The sight of the deep canyons was too scary for me, aggravated fear by the flowing waters. But the place was awesome.

Enrique Aliaga

This was a beautiful hike! It was great how the hike it broken up in sections based on the type of hiker you are, would definitely go again

Ranieli Zatta

Beautiful. Breath taking! Love coming here to connect with Nature, God, and each other!

Bang Nguyen

Such an amazing experience. So worth the trip.

Joy Bayley

We walked the loop down to the 4th bridge and it took about 40 min. Watch out for loose gravel and the smooth rock as it can be very slippery. The depth of the canyon was shocking when we crossed the first bridge - a great little hike!!

Ján Vasko

This is beautiful. I visited in falls, but can't wait to visit it in winters..

Travis Mason

Been here a few times now, it has some great hiking and walking trails and of course spectacular views of waterfalls, rivers and interesting rock beds. Huge tourist attraction. There is a somewhat medium sized parking lot, and some washrooms. Do wear comfortable footwear that have some traction, since some areas are hard to navigate. But all in all a great place to stop and visit.

Damian Griggs

Jeff was fabulous! (Tour guide) The Jeff who wanted to be a teacher. I know there's 2. Lol not only was he crazy knowledgeable (as expected) but he was very personable. The Canyon itself was gorgeous! Never saw anything so breath taking.

Dani Bray

Beautiful, easy trail with a walkway over the canyon to view it. Amazing view of the canyon .We had this stop included in a tour we had taken and enjoyed lunch in the urban kitchen as well. The stones along the path showed fossilized molluscs (?) And other creatures. We were able to learn about the trees in the area as well. There are various trails in the area and overlooking mountains as well. Beautiful lunch stop!

Michel Savoie

What a wonderful nature made mountain with deep water... very nice ambiance... However, washrooms were terrible, some users seems doesn't know how to maintain the cleanliness of the site... Need follow up all the time.

Vlad S.

Loved this place. The trails are well maintained. Pure magnificence. Wear the proper footwear and be prepared to be mesmerized

Juvinar Santiago

Love it! Amongst our top list

YoGaBaGaBa

Awesome hike for all age groups. Really amazing scenic areas along the entire walk

Doug Petry

We found a small trail to hike up and was surprised with such an amazing view! I love visiting Jasper and this spot is a must to go hiking. Take in the scenery with medium level hiking trails and restaurant if you follow the signs.

Amad Khalti

A beautiful walk to go with the family or couples. The views are beautiful, in winter you have to be careful because it is slippery.

Jacob Warrington

Nice trail, beautiful canyon, a little touristic but nice

Jeff Dover

Gorgeous hike with much to see. Not a difficult hike so take your time and enjoy the energy.

Becky Bulmer

Amazing views and experience overall! Highly recommend checking this place out if you're staying in Jasper. We went during the winter and it was super cool to walk around in the canyon.

Keyur Patel (Q)

Maligne Canyon is among the best highly accessible spots around Jasper. Almost all visitors will be able to make the trek from the first to fourth bridges along a path that boasts numerous views of the deep narrow canyon and successive waterfalls. I would avoid the restaurant there, however - much better to pack your own food.

Cole Williams

Its a great hike from Bridge 2-6. Beautiful views and every step. Missed the first bridge, make sure you dont miss it. Its a 3 -3.5 hours trekk , make sure you wear proper shoes and clothes , carry some water.

Avyn Gray

It was a good length trail for our son and dog.

Zac Grening

What a great hike with great spots to take pictures and just enjoy nature. Takes about 3 or 4 hours to do the whole hike. Another place that is a must see.

Betty Dollman

Just stunning! Make sure that you check out all of the bridges.

Bailey Woloshyn

This is a must stop. Parking was a little hard to get when we went around 1 pm on a Saturday but circled a few times and got a spot. The hike down to the different bridges was nice and the stops were amazing views. Getting back up was more challenging but lots of places to stop on the way up. The flowing water was so cool to listen to as well. Great stop along the way to Spirit Island boat cruise.

Perry

While it is gorgeous, and sure to impress many, I wasn’t as wowed as other spots. I did get to see a beautiful white tail deer, but other than that, it wasn’t a spot I was overly impressed by. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the Canadian Rockies, so it’s naturally beautiful, but I didn’t get the magical feeling that I got at many other places and that’s okay. Not every spot is going to do that for everyone. If I had to do it again, I would not make the stop here and spend my time exploring something else.

Rachel Shen

Very nice place for a easy hike to the bottom of the canyon

Sigrid Hohne

Gorgeous blue and clear water, which you get close and touch just behind the restaurant there. You can skip the first few bridges to close to the 6th where the water way gets wider and pettier if you don’t have stamina in my opinion.

Keith F

Really nice place to visit. I had a great time there. I took the longer and harder hike which left me a little out of breath and desperately in need of more water lol but overall I would 10000% recommend this place.

Roth Jianping

Beautiful trail. We started from 1st bridge and from 5th bridge complete the loop 7H. As you cross the bridge it gets more and more beautiful.

C Pex

Outstanding experience! Need to be fit to walk along the canyon.

Maricel Tesoro

Awesome experience!

Shannon Hussey

Incredible hike during the winter. Follow the path along the canyon for fantastic views of the ice falls and the surrounding mountains. There are gates which late you get closer to the river and the ice falls (take at your own risk).Take the higher path on the way back for a beautiful view of Pyramid Mountain.

San

Exactly what you'd expect. Stunning views and a really nice tourist location with plenty of amenities nearby.

Ron Strauss

I kept playing Lord of the Rings ost in my mind. It was just pure beauty of the nature. Must visit!

Monica Song

Nice, easy hike, saw parents with kids and dogs hiking. The site has 6 main bridges to visit, the 5th and 6th are a little far from the 1st, perfectly walkable though. There's options to start the hike from the 5th, 6th and 2nd bridges (each from different parking lots, all with toilettes and a restaurant at the 2nd bridge parking lot)

V S

So beautiful. Hike down was good for all as there were benches along the way, stairs in some spots and always a hand rail if needed.

Essex The Magnificent

Beautiful view and scenery. It's a good place to visit and has a cool trail too.

L Kam

Always wonderful to see! The canyon is a true Marvel of Nature and offers a wide variety of areas to explore. Very low water flows at the end of this dry year- interesting to see the changes.

Cheryl Hildebrand

Loved the trek, the bridges, the water and natures magnificent beauty..must place visit if you love peaceful and natural places

Dhaivat Trivedi

Almighty Abb

Great trails and views!

Chris Knorr

We had a great time! The hike from Bridge 1 to Bridge 5 was beautiful. The hike from Bridge 5 to 6 was not the best as the sights are not quite as nice as the aforementioned. Very easy hike for the first part. Unfortunately, the restaurant and all that was left is an overpriced café, so best to eat in town.

John Barford

Lovely spot to explore right outside Jasper. Reasonably flat paths with a few exceptions - the path from parking lot slopes down to the third bridge, so of course you'll have to climb back out on the way back, but the rest of the path to the sixth bridge is mostly flat (and more secluded as most people seem to stop at 3rd or 4th bridge).

Mike Salter

Awesome to do a walk with the family... not recommended to take stroller, it will be easy if you take a baby carrier, amazing natural place, very good to spend couple of hours or just a short time on the small routes. We did the small and medium route we have 2 little kids and they did the whole way with not problem.

Kandis C

I’m always in awe of Gods incredible creation! The views are stunning! And a great little walk, doable for most with various options to go shorter or longer. Watch your steps on the stairs in winter; would do one good to wear footwear with good grip when there’s ice and snow.

Derek Potts

Great views & fun hike!

Jim McMahon

We did the Maligne Trail Loop hike featured on the All Trails App. It was muddy but was good. Just always be careful!

Vivian Calipay

Easy, medium and hard trails to choose from. Beautiful scenery. 1 to 6 hrs trails.

Amanda Ellis

Really neat canyon and falls. Bridge 1 over the canyon has the best falls. Sadly, trail was closed to many of the bridges so we didn't get the full experience. NO signs up top about the closure.

N Hogg

Canyon is spectacular; excellent hike. Restaurant offers excellent takeout sandwiches including vegan and vegetarian options. Very tasty fare. There was also the option to dine in, with a lot of menu options.

Abrielle Knodel

Amazing experience, the canyon is huge and has six falls to view from different bridges.

Fernando Bardelli

Very beautiful place. Fenced all the way for extra safety for the kids

Tony Wyllie

Have visited Maligne Canyon many times over the years. Its depth seems to have changed. Unfortunately all of the tourist traffic has worn away the small fossils that were visible on the rock in the late 70's. Next time I am back, will have to hike from the top to the bottom.

Angela Clark

Nice short trail contains several waterfall and canyon views along with maligne river

Annet Poggegordon

What a great hike for the whole family

Tamara Sutherland

The walk, falls and scenery are nice, but very overhyped. It was unbelievably crowd so it was hard to enjoy fully. If you want to save time do the shortest track that visits Bridge #1 (the best in my opinion).

Aasiya Satia

very very picturesque! Recommended to get there early as it gets super busy as the day goes on.

Tonya LeClair

This time of year (November) good shoes are essential. Saw many people slipping in their Vans. You can rent icers to go over the shoes in Jasper if your going further than the first or second bridge.

Esther Y

Stunning example of glacial erosion. Awesome hike.

Chris K

Always gorgeous in summer, but a true fairytale in winter. Love this easy hike!

Esther W.

Very busy spot which is only 15 minutes from Jasper. Most people are not wearing masks and the trail is so narrow. The canyon view was magnificent but from 2nd bridge is all downhill so you need to consider how far you would like to go because you need to climb up the hill when you come back.

Jared Clarke

The falls is beautiful! This is also a place where black swifts nests (they're endangered). Although I wasn't able to see any, there was information about them and it was still neat to see their habitat.

Linley

Well worth seeing! So beautiful!

Ali FA

This place is so beautiful. For this trip we started at the Fifth Bridge and went up. I had never done this route before. It was amazing. There are spots you can get up close and personal with the water. It is breath taking to see. If you haven't gone, you really should. Put it on your list.

Chuiya Meng

Very beautiful here. The waterfalls are quite amazing. We walked from the First Bridge to the Sixth Bridge and also did the Flower Loop. I would recommend going earlier as it got quite busy between the First and Fourth Bridges later in the day.

Salma Bakr

Gorgeous hiking trails along canyon path with waterfalls and flowing water cascading. Nature trails are wonderful

Victoria Klassen

Loved it here. Great views and beautiful nature!

Deborah Barnes

Beautiful place to walk and breath.. Get ready to walk.

Myra Liwanag

Absolutely amazing! Must see and walk the trail! Stunning views!! Loved it!

Helena Funny

Beautiful hike, if you do all the bridges expect to spend 4-6 hours there. We really enjoyed our day, especially because there were not many people. I assume this is different during typical peak tourism times.

Prince Afrim

Nice trek with amazing waterfall views. Maybe skip the 6th Bridge if you are not looking for a long hike.

Georgina Neave

Great place not far from Jasper town, visited all bridges. Awesome

Bachar Houchi

Dave was a great guide took his time to show everyone special areas and point out details. He made the tour fun and entertaining.

Vince Mendoza

This place is great... go off the path a little right down to waters edge .. amazing

Tam

Very beautiful trail. Easy to access. Good for all level. The trail is getting very muddy and slippery if it rains.

Maria Trang

This place is beautiful

Prachi Ambre

Beautiful! Stunning! Remarkable! Great place for families. Walking trails aren't long. Highly recommended.

Alain Bouche

100% recommended to anyone going through Jasper. It's very close to town, easy for everyone (even partially wheelchair accessible!), and doesn't take much time. I advise only walking to the first 4 bridges, as the 5th and 6th each have parking lots right next to them that you can just drive to and the trails leading up from the main parking lot are mostly surrounded by dense trees that block the view of the mountains. There is one good lookout point on the path between the main parking lot and the sixth bridge, but it is very close to the parking lot so you can easily go check it out without doing the entire hike to the sixth bridge. Photos can't capture the feeling of the canyon. It's definitely a worthwhile experience.

Lisa Lang

Beautiful hike starting at the top of the canyon with breathtaking views near the bottom

James Watters

Dont go to Jasper without checking this place out!!! Gorgeous!!!????

Garth Tiffen

this place is spectacular !!! they must be prepared to walk a lot.

Khoa Ngo

We love it here, just amazing what water and time can do. Been here at least 10 times and still loving it. Rick Stasiuk, Wetaskiwin Alberta Canada T9A 3R2

Debbie Dube

Great hike. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Monica Cruz

Breath taking beauty. Go early to get photos with no humans in them.

Brenda King

Amazing Breath taking every visit

Celeste Ruppelt

Excellent hike through a river canyon with lots of waterfalls. I started at the 5th bridge, early in the morning (7 am) in June. Weather was nice and cool and nobody was there so I could stop and enjoy all of the sights as long as I wanted. At the end is a "tea house" that you can also drive to (and presumably hitch a ride back to your car). Not quite as cool as the hike in only ones at lake Louise but still a nice place to grab a warm drink and enjoy the sun.

Susan Poon

An awesome place to go for a walk. Very beautiful. Start at the restaurant and get there early to avoid crowds.

D W

Easy trail, great for an afternoon stroll. Awesome views of the canyon and stream. It was super hot outside but areas of the trail felt air conditioned from the cold stream

Will

Fantastic amateur hike! 3 hours spent here and i had a good adventure. Can get quite busy here. Visit early morning or evening. Stunning views and scenery! Highly recommend it ????

Sam Grinshpon

This trail is amazing - the water flow is intense! As you move up the bridge numbers, the hike gets more challenging. We had a toddler, so we ended our hike at bridge 4. We had a fun and satisfying hike..

Shweta Dhok

This was an excellent trip to do during the winter. If you don't have ice crampons or spikes or you are uncomfortable walking on ice all alone then ask around and get a guide when you go during the winter.

John Hagen

It is a nice place for local to go hiking, but it looks quite average for Overseas Visitors like us. With so many beautiful places to explore in Canada's Rocky Mountain West, if you have limited time to spend, I wouldn't recommend this Canyon... Two photos. (The pictures might not be too bad, but the Water falls was, in fact, small..)

Lee Dube

Beautiful place to visit. Nice hike. Remember to keep water with you while going to full length hike

Jeff Schneider

I love this place. The scenario is breathtaking.

Mapolenka S

Beautiful canyon with kilometers worth of easy hikes and excellent views!

Sandy Koroll

Love this place. Only thing I will warn is be ready to hike a far way. Trail maps are confusing and don't really tell you how far away from getting back to main parking lot. Almost got lost with small children. Luckily we figured out how to get back before dark. Be careful and watch where u go. Easy to get lost . Bring water and food. Trails were well maintained and views of canyon was beautiful. But again they should make trail maps easier to understand and read. Like 1 hour to end. Or 2 hours to end. Or take this trail back to parking lot. Would be a simple way to make it easier for guests to visit.

Taniya Perera

It's a beautiful water canyon. Nobody expects such a breathtaking view there at the first place. The first bridge is the main spot of attraction. The water level is getting lower than the last month (we went in September 2021).

Greg

Amazing view

Katina Woo

Love the nature experience in this beautiful place!

Mihai Harabagiu

Very much enjoyed the hike from the 5th Bridge to the first and back. The hills while a little challenging were not too difficult and the trails are well marked.

S. Hughes

Deep canyon and lovely forest walk. Bring crampons for winter hiking!

Hannah

it is a lovely place for hiking. I think I have hiked here every time I have visited Jasper. Although you can comfortably hike, it can be little slippery after or when raining. The place is well managed, quiet and scenic, and of course, free too.

Chris Gillies

Amazing place to explore and hike along the river. See some cool waterfalls along the way and picturesque views coming back of the jasper mountain range. Definitely dine at the lodge because they have really good food.

Happy Traveler

We visited on late August 2021. I am sure the gorge would be much more memorizing in the spring of the year during higher water levels. We loved it. A beautiful, easy walk. Very scenic.
