Very interesting day to learn history

Bitbat

This is a great place to explore some of Stoney Creek's history. Take pictures beside the stoney creek tower, and play with family. It's a nice place to relax and play with kids, especially after a long day at work/school. Every year they have this event called "Battle of 1812" where actors come and re-act what happened in the Battle of Stoney Creek. During that time, you can find many old school items, as well as games and activites you can enjoy with your family. Nice place here!

Seika Groves

We participate in the Battlefield House reenactment each year as a merchant. The grounds and museum are worth a visit even if it is not during the 1812 reenactment

Rachel Schuurman Hess

I had a tour of the grounds, the museum’s where closed.

Benjamin Grim

Neat little park. I visit occassionally.

A very interesting place to visit! Come and take their tour, it's a huge part of our local history. Also come to see the war of 1812 reenactment. Great place to hike, have a picnic, fly a kite, walk your dog etc.. Cool place.

Audrey Meiklejohn

It is well worth the time to go early in June to watch the re enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek. Volunteers in period costume great to see...and little centres with games for kids and crafts and even clothing from back then. There is an outlet for hotdogs or sausages or hamburgers and fries. Touring the homestead is very interesting as well.

There is a lot of neat history here! In 1813 3,000 US troops tried to invade Upper Canada and set-up camp. In return, 700 British Regulars left their encampment in Burlington Heights to attack the enemy. While both sides suffered great losses, the Americans were ultimately defeated and withdrew. This particular battle is credited with saving Upper Canada from being overrun in 1813. Located within the park is the Battlefield House, The Battlefield Monument, The Nash-Jackson House, as well as the Battlefield Cemetery. The grounds are surrounded by beautiful gardens and plenty of green space. Annually, a reenactment of the battle takes place nearby - which is a draw for both tourists and locals. Perfect for summer evening strolls, picnics and even photography. This is a great and important part of Hamilton & Canada's history and a site not to be missed.

Linda Hinnells

Loved the battle field festival here. So much to learn for the little ones including old games and walking on stilts. Merchants the sold old items such as toys. Overall great experience seeing the reinactment of the battle of 1812 being played out as it was. Great experience.

Jeanette Ford

Probably the best place in Stoney Creek to play pokemon, especially for smaller kids. There are 2 gyms and about 8 stops all within an easy walk of each other. The grounds are beautiful, and from May to end of September (about) the washroom facilities are open. It's pretty common for all the stops to be lit with lures. I've never actually been inside any of the buildings, except for the tower, but unfortunately the stairs to the top are closed. Many of the festivals held there are pretty neat. I can recommend the Apple Fest at the end of September. Lots of fun!

Jake T

Nice park just watch out for uncleaned dog poop because LAZY owners.

Great little park with limited picnic facilities. Used for Battle of Stoney Creek re-enactment in June and apple festival in fall. Has battle monument and museum (limited hours) on site. Not the quietest park since it abuts against Centennial Parkway.

Love to bring my dog here to run, unfortantly so do other people who do not clean up after their dogs. Love that it connects to trails. Climbing the stairs is always good exercise and the monument is beautiful. Museums are extremely boring and would never pay to go in but we love just walking the grounds. Parking isnt bad during the week or early in the mornings on weekends as long as there is no event going on.

Very unique and historical reinactment. I enjoyed the atmosphere here. The actors did a great job but they could of been a bit more real in taking a hit. For the first 30 mins of the battle not even one actor got shot. Everyone was a avenger soldier lol. Very good food and set up. Will come back again !

Unfortunately, we planned out visit for a Monday, only to find all museums in Hamilton are closed that day. As we wandered around the grounds on a chilly day, one of the custodians noticed us and invited us inside the museum to get warm. He and another tour guide or docent spent some time with us, giving an account of the time period of the War of 1812 and allowing us to see an introductory orientation film. After, we did take some time to tour the grounds and see the impressive Battlefield Monument, a local landmark, Since 1913, the tower that stands 100 feet tall commemorates a century of peace between the British and the Americans. The grounds make up 32 acres of parkland, an herb garden and nature trails, including Battlefield House and the Grandview (Nash-Jackson House) where we were allowed in. A number of smaller memorials tell the story of the Battle of Stoney Creek. Quite an experience, we were very thankful of the kindness shown by the museum staff and will make it a stop the next time we are in the area

Elvir Ademovic

Very nice park and I am sure in other times it would be better. However there is very little to do at the site. With it being such an important part of Canadian history there is so much potential not being used. Again during better times I may come back and update this review. Cannot stress so much potential here...

An interesting building and background. We've done the tour a couple of times. We really enjoy it. Aside from the tour, the grounds are beautifully kept. It's a large park space. Free entrance and parking. And they do an annual reenactment of the battle of Stoney Creek complete with cannons, muskets and actors in full period regalia. It's fun!

Dave Wilson

A wonderful museum of Canadian history. Well run and maintained

Bob Gauthier

Great history

Eileen Doucet

Lovely tour of both the house and the monument. Not clear when you arrive, especially on foot, that you have to buy tickets at the little house across the road. Nice way to spend a few hours outside as well, so bring a picnic and walking shoes as there is a connection to the Bruce Trail behind the monument.

Carol P.
