Love visiting here in the summer when the museum is open but the trails are wonderful for walking any time of year. This is a beautiful property and enough if you are not up for a walk you can enjoy the quiet on one of the benches along Lake Martha.

Sharon Rozario

We visited this spot in the thick of winter after a heavy snow fall and it was honestly such a beautiful trail to be on. The signage is great and you can easily follow the routes you can take as they are all colour coded. In the winter go early on and try and make it out before dark as the gate closes earlier. I can’t wait to go back and possibly again in the summer too when the area is in bloom.

Always love coming back here, just far enough away from the world and yet it's just around the corner. Great for hiking or just walking around the fields and if you want to learn some history of the early days the museum is a good size. Always friendly and never busy so always quiet. Also has a little coffee shop in the old cellar for a quick snack.

Absolutely a must do! Beautiful views, trails, lake, home ... Take time to walk the short trail, it comes out at the top of a hook overlooking the big white house. I've been coming here for about 20 years and it never disappoints.

Extremely clean and well kept lawns and surroundings. Took the dogs ???? on a leash for a walk and enjoyed it very much.

Alina MacNaughton

Me and daughter took a hike on one of trails. It said it was 1 km ...it was not!! It was full of debris there was no exit to the trail except to turn back. The trail was steep and muddy, trees falling over and had to climb over a brook to get to the other side. This trail should have been closed!! We got lost and had to call 911 because we got lost. The 1 km trail was 4-5 kms and clearly should have been closed down. I don’t believe the trails are up kept at all!!! If you go for a walk here walk around the museum and around the lake ... those other trails are highly dangerous!!

We were first introduced to this estate by our hiking groups and we come back for the trails. The trails are amazing, and give you a good tour of what used to be the vast estate. The grounds and the remaining houses and other buildings are great to explore. If they needed anything, we would just love it if they could somehow re-open a café here like they used to have.

Nicole

Beautiful! We walked the Drumlin field trail which runs down along the lake then swinging back through a wooded area and out into a beautiful field overlooking the estate. It's easy to imagine being there in the 1850s, very interesting place. This is the perfect place for a picnic!

Fantastic estate home, well kept to the era. Grounds are lovely coming out onto Uniacke Lake, with many benches along the edge to enjoy the view. Behind it lies a great system of walking trails with several distances to choose from to accommodate various abilities and time allowances.

A great place to bring a picnic lunch and wander the grounds! Some of the trails were more challenging than I expected which was nice for the variety, as there were still some easy walking trails available for those with various mobility needs. Wasn't able to get inside the building before it closed, but still enjoyed the time spent there!

Beautiful place and setting. Close to the lake, it has trails which can still be accessed in the fall even if the museum is closed. The house is perfect for history lovers to learn of how life was during the time of Mr. Uniacke and about his family.

I love to get away from the city to hike the trails on this estate. When the museum and tea room is closed in fall, it is nice to pack a lunch and eat at the picnic tables. Great place to take my family and friends when they visit. There is also a great market nearby.

Great place to spend the day exploring the trail systems. Beautiful lake front areas. Trails range from mild to moderate hiking. Would even be a good place to go snowshoeing.

My wife and I went here for a hike and I can't recommend it enough! The property itself (with the museum house) is situated back from the main road and you take a cool tree-lined dirt road to get to it. The parking lot is large and the main property is truly beautiful (situated on a lake front). We didn't go in the museum this time but fully intend to return! We set off on our hike after grabbing a trail map and were impressed from the get-go due to an old moss-covered stone wall (rather, the remnants of it) that ran parallel to the trail for the first little bit. Very cool! There are multiple named trails through this park and some are more rugged than others (further along) but all were kept well cleared and signed. Our hike took us on the old road that used to run from Halifax to Windsor (at least a small section of it) and I could just imagine horse buggies travelling on it back in the day - you can still clearly see the wheel ruts in the road. If you take the whole loop (which took us about 2hrs 45 mins with some breaks) you pass by two serene lakes. The trail goes through many different areas and as a hiker, I love variety in terrain so that was great! There were never any steep climbs either - just some hilly terrain at times. A hugely worthwhile adventure to undertake for walkers/hikers/nature lovers - not far outside the city either! You will not regret going!!

Well maintained trails at the back the estate. The estate by itself is a great museum which offers a glimpse back into the old days. The lake is opening its arms to your kayak or boat during summertime. Wide open lawns with picnic tables on work just perfectly for families and friends.

Excellent place to visit, When in Nova Scotia, very impressive both of buildings and views around the estate, plenty of wildlife, when we visited I had a Chipmunk that came and sat on my boots and chatted away merrily, whilst a nearby Red Squirrel grumbled away. I felt so in tune with these animals sharing their time with me.

It is a beautiful place. The house looks stunning. The gardens are huge with loads of place for kids to run around. Well worth a day trip. It has toilets and tea room.

Uniacke house is a special place to visit. The Honourable Richard John Uniacke first visited the site in1776 and not until 1813 did he start this beautiful mansion overlooking lake Martha. I love visiting each summer for a peaceful step back in time. Well worth a visit! Uniacke house is opened and I was lucky enough to hear Baroque music being played live in the historic mansion as part of Canada Day 2019 celebrations a real treat on a foggy afternoon! Followed by a tour of the house! Thanks again
