Many statues to enjoy and read about the immigrants coming to Canada. Great pictures to be taken as well. Was actually pretty fun seeing them all, taking pictures, and reading the history.

Apparently a statue dedicated to those who emigrated from Canada to elsewhere. Strange that they didn't build one for immigrants to Canada.

SUCH a delightful and encouraging memorial to the many immigrants who came to Canada in the past and CONTINUE to do so, from all parts of the world. The man with the briefcase seems so life-like and energetic, you almost expect him to leap out and head off to work in the many office buildings of Halifax town. // Rather surprised that some of the other memorial works of art in this area are missing from Google Maps: will have to rectify this sad situation!!

A poignant addition to the waterfront. While newer, it represents the immigrant gateway into their new life in Canada. The base pillars have the inscription of where the folks came from: Asia, Europe, Oceania, Africa, Americas. Its dwarfed a bit by Cunard's statue in the center of the adjacent rotunda so could have been made bigger relative to the immigrants significant contribution to Canada.

Beautiful statue!!!!It really moves all of us sailors,because it represents our life,even though it's dedicated to immigrants,it also represents that most difficult moment in a sailor's life when you have to leave everything and everybody behind,and go into unknown, trying to provide for your family!!We stood there for some time,both me and my wife,just looking at it,and thinking about our life and were it got us so far... The Emigrant, is installed on Halifax Seaport district a short distance from Pier 21, where thousands of people first landed in Canada from foreign countries seeking a better life. The monument depicts a man wearing a suit and fedora hat leaving his home country with a single piece of luggage as he steps off a pier onto the deck of a ship. A bas relief sculpture in the back of the monument has a vignette of a woman carrying a baby and holding the hand of a small child who is waving goodbye. A bell tower in the background is indicative of the old country. A bronze plaque in front of the monument is inscribed in English, French and Italian: THE EMIGRANT The pain of separation he overcame, with faith and hope his heart aflame... La souffrance de la separation il a surmontée, le coeur brûlant de foi d' espérance... Vinse il dolor della lontananza, spinto dalla fede e dalla speranza... This is an extremely moving monument. It jumps out at you as you go from the the farmers market further down onto the waterfront. It's captivating really, the look in the eyes or something. And very relevant today.
