While it may look unassuming from the outside, you would be surprised to see what's on exhibit in the large spaces inside. Several full sized, detailed models and aircraft from Shearwater's history, and a few exhibits on the facets of life on base, actions of RCAF members and an art gallery featuring aircraft from the base and squadron's history. It is worth a couple hours of your time if you like to venture into the past, or if you're doing research for a history project. Admission is by donation as well.

Wow has this museum ever expanded since our last visit in 2005. We found a picture containing our Dad when he played for the Flyers and sailed on the Bonnie. This place is a must stop for history buffs. It is packed with restored aircraft and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable about every item on display.

Wow. Visited many other museums. Difference this time, was Ivor leading the tour. Outstanding knowledge and great stories. Hiring tour leaders who've been there and done that is awesome. Small enough that I and my walker made it around without issue, large enough to have an outstanding inventory of equipment, photographs, memorabilia and artwork. Highly recommended!

Really worth a visit if you are into aviation history. Mostly a collection of aircraft with explanations of their history and specifications. There are also some exhibits of pictures and artifacts, though, particularly those from Canada's last aircraft carrier. Admission is free. There is a gift shop if you want to spend some money.

Went during the winter time it was quite a drive but was totally worth it. We weren't sure of the timings so went around the closing time but they still let us see it without any problem. Might not look that interesting from outside but you would be surprised to see what they have on the inside. Huge planes it was a sight. Everything had a proper description to it. It was like I am living my childhood again. A must visit for all the first timers.

Great educational tour. Our guide Ivor helped history come alive through retelling his life experiences working with the aircrafts and life on the base.

It is a great place to look at air crafts that contributed to Canada. The lower level is full of air crafts histories and upper level is a art museum. Most importantly, there is no entrance fee.

Small but absolutely worth one's time: it has a flight simulator, free for playing, and we ended up hanging there for extended period of time. For museum, being small would allows one to focus and experience better, plus some friendly and knowledgeable stuff: I had a really good exchange with Alex and learned quite a bit there from him and my son, especially the stories about Swordfish, slow-flying and relatively outdated airplane that took down the giant German battleship, Bismarck, and destroyed a major Italian naval fleet in Taranto, Italy. Also learned the important role played in Canadian Navy force in Cuban crisis: we rarely heard that trey detected and followed a Russian submarine all the way. What stroke me more is out politician's lack of gut, and the smart and courageous work of our military personnel,as the commander decided to do a national exercise, to mobilized the navy force...

Mary Mcfarland

Fantastic museum of Canadian naval aviation. Excellent aircraft displays you can get right close to. Brand new exhibit on history of CFB Shearwater. A must see if you're in the Halifax area. We had a great personal guided tour with Jim whose knowledge and experience really brought the whole thing to life. Entry is by donation.

Joshua Clarke

This place has the typical problem of jamming a lot of material in a small space. I've however been to a lot of aviation museums and this was still a learning experience and I liked their work on maintaining and using a WW1 hanger. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable.
