Wondrous site with plenty of info about the imperial British army. Structures and interior of rooms are carefully preserved. And most importantly a group of very informative staff, all dressed in old English style and uniforms. Also, the English tour guide lady is very beautiful and sweet!

A must see when you are in Halifax. The Citadel itself is a prime example of a verdun fortress, similar to the British fort in Annapolis Royal but on a much grander scale.

I can't believe I almost missed the WWI trenches. Walking through it was a spooky experience. On the other end of the emotional spectrum, is the Vimy Ridge replica which is about 4 ft high but looks much grander. It caught me off guard and my emotions got the better of me. This replica monument has solidified my resolve to visit the real monument someday.

Amazing historic site. Very low entrance fee for such a large museum/historic site. Built for the defence of Canada and Halifax harbour mainly against a possible invasion from the United States in the 1800's. Live musket demonstrations and guided tours every couple hours. Also on hand is the Nova Scotia Army Museum on the second floor of the main building in the courtyard. A must see for all.

I live nearby and didn't know a lot of the information or history they talk about here. It's very educational for tourists and locals alike. All Canadians should see this. Everything was very well maintained and the staff very friendly.

If you're doing the rounds of historical museums in the Maritime provinces, the Halifax Citadel is a MUST!! Lots of renovation has taken place there over the past 60 years that i've been going there: my first trip to this wonderful fort was in 1961, as a small child. I LOVED climbing on the big guns and peering into the cracks and crannies of the fort. Since then they have done a PILE of work, very professionally restoring a lot of how it must have felt in the 1800s. Has a real "military" flavor about it, yet is child-friendly still. Recommended!!

(Translated) Great museum to do. I went this month, the staff were mostly students who love what they do. They are all in contemporary uniform, very present and speak French rather well. The guided tour is free, I advise you to do it and therefore to find out about the schedule at the reception. I took the guided tour twice, one in English and the other in French. The 1st visit, I unfortunately could not understand, my English was not good enough, but I appreciated the dynamism of the guide, it was captivating. Then then in French where I was alone, it was cool. In short, things are moving in this citadel with the entertainment and the very friendly employees =) (Original) Super musée à faire. J'y suis allé ce mois ci, les employés étaient pour la plupart des étudiants qui aiment ce qu'ils font. Ils sont tous en uniforme de l'époque, très présent et parlent plutôt bien français. La visite guidé est gratuite, je vous conseille de le faire et donc de vous renseigner sur l'horaire à l'accueil. J'ai fait 2 fois la visite guidée, une en anglais et l'autre en français. La 1ère visite, j'ai malheureusement pas pu comprendre, mon anglais n'était pas assez bon, mais j'ai apprécié le dynamisme de la guide, c'était captivant. Puis ensuite en français où j'étais seul, c'était cool. Bref ca bouge dans cette citadelle avec les animations et les employés très sympathique =)
