REVIEWS OF Point Abino Lighthouse National Historic Site IN Fort Erie

Jeff Hollick (Hollickster)

Visit the gatehouse. Be polite, take no pictures of the residences. Wear a guest pass. And enjoy the serenity as well as beauty of Lake Erie.

Alexandra Ivanova

No access, the road that goes to the lighthouse is on the private property which is closed to the public right now.

(Translated) Really frustrating, I came from afar with my family to see it and found the site closed to the public because it is private. (Original) Vraiment frustrant,je suis venu de loin avec ma famille pour le voir et ont trouve le site fermé pour le public parce que c'est privé.

It's very sad that this gorgeous, National Historic landmark, owned by the City of Fort Erie, that our tax paying dollars have paid for its renovation and continued maintence, is practically unaccessible to the general public, thanks to the stuck up rich Americans that live on the private gated Point Abino Road. This needs to change! The tax payers of Fort Erie are paying for something that these stuck up rich entitled fools think they own! It's absolutely sickening! Forget storming Area 51. Storm Point Abino Lighthouse!!

Les Cooper

Rustic and still standing tall the lighthouse looks magnificent, unfortunately the museum was closed. Also, be aware of the little man at the gate. He is a stalker.

Rick O'Banion

Hard to get to, but a wonderful example of early 1900s Great Lakes lighthouses.

Michael Velemirovich

Local historical building. Great place to kayak around. The shallow water keep the boats away. It's also a nice bicycle ride destination.

Elena G

I don't even know how is that allowed by local authority but the road goes through a private property and they don't allow public at this time. So historical place cannot be seen because you don't own property over there. Way to go Canada!

Always a nice hike out to the lighthouse. As the route goes through a private community please be sure to check in with security. Be respectful and follow the small amount of rules they ask.

Very specific hours because of gated neighborhood restrictions. Not a lot of help for rising tensions between public and private access debate for nearby areas. Lighthouse is nice but gate needless blocks access to surrounding lighthouse path.

Yet a again the rich take from the public thanks Canada

David Shen

Private road is the only way to the lighthouse and they are "currently closed to the public". Definitely not worth the visit if you need to put up with the arbitrary decisions of the land owners. Curious who paid for the roads and whether or not they truly have the right to close access. Regardless look elsewhere.

A wonderful place to walk and see the sites. Many trees and flowers along the way to the Historic lighthouse!

Moe Lester

Not worth going owned but the rich

Rachael DiClemente

Such a waste of a beautiful site if it is not accessible to the public. There is a private road and you cannot drive to the lighthouse. You get to a gated community and you have to sign a waiver with the landlord to enter and they don't let people enter after 5pm. The walk is a mile long to get to the lighthouse. It's beautiful but bring a wagon or stroller for little kids. I could go on with more details about our terrible experience but these are the important facts.

Nicole McCutcheon

Definitely worth the drive! Would be really cool to check out the inside. It is on private property and closed off to the public currently. Wait until they open it up again to avoid getting yelled at ????

Good and Bad. 5 Stars because the Lighthouse is amazing and historic. 0 stars because ut is blocked off 1.5 kms away due to it being a gated community and access seems to be generally cut off. It's honestly ridiculous that this can even be allowed at a historic site like this.
