REVIEWS OF Niagara Falls History Museum IN Fort Erie

Andréia Arai Rissman

Staff was very pleasant. The kids did a scavenger hunt and had fun. Small, but very clean. Don't forget to try on the infantry costumes and the musket

Patrick Brouder

Excellent history of the War of 1812 and some history of the Falls themselves. Also has a great, ever-changing program of local-oriented events (from yoga to film nights).

Lise Seprüs

Excellent! Highly recommend! Great overview of the area!

Karl Dockstader

This museum is informative, entertaining, and the prices are very reasonable. It's great to have something of substance to enjoy while in the Falls.

We dropped in during the free visit hours on a Thursday evening. The staff was kind and helpful and offered free souvenir pins which was a nice bonus. The museum was an enjoyable history of the region in general as well as a history of the Falls specifically. There is also an area devoted to the importance of clean water to our world.

ben mullen

inexpensive. fun. a learning experience.

Kristine Lorah

Small but informative and interesting. I loved learning about the history of the bridges and about the town in general. When we went, they also had a war of 1812 exhibit, and that was really interesting, too.

Kat Crow

For a small museum there are a lot of exhibits. The mystery table was fun, as were the ongoing films. Good for a short visit.

Jeremy bunston

Great museum and wonderful job on adding to an 9ld building with a new wing marrying modernist architecture to old stone building.

(Translated) Museum with two permanent exhibitions, one about the British American war from 1812 to 1814, which heralded the birth of Canada, and one about the history of Niagara Falls (place and waterfalls). (Original) Museum met twee permanente tentoonstellingen, eentje over de Brits Amerikaanse oorlog van 1812 tot 1814, wat het ontstaan van Canada inluidde, en een over de historie van Niagara Falls (plaats en watervallen).

Very interesting, lots of info. Attractive layout.

Reception was lukewarm but admission is relatively inexpensive given the fantastic exhibitions. A one of a kind War of 1812 collection highly recommended for those with an interest in the matter. Thankful these intuitions exist.

A great modern venue to learn about the history of Niagara Falls! I personally recommend checking out the Water for Life exhibit and it's beautiful pieces!

Dan Fun

The museum is not in downtown area so it's very quiet on weekdays. I was hoping to see more artifacts about local history, but there isn't really much to see. It charges $5, it should be free.

For $5 you can’t go wrong... if you’re looking for a little info on the history of Niagara Falls and the war of 1812 this is worth it...you won’t need more than an hour to go through the whole place...and the building itself is also really cool.

Came with the kids and had lots of fun. Small place but very interesting and informative :)

A must do! Educational and fun. Not huge so it won't take more than an hour or two. Buy the guide book to take home. Really adds to your vacation, making it more than just throwing money at tourist stuff you could do anywhere. Free admission on Thursdays after 5pm, which worked great for us as that's when we arrived after coming up from Maryland, gave us a place to stretch our legs from the drive. Went mid October 2017 and it was not crowded at all. Friendly staff and a guide who told us about how her personal familiy history tied into the displays. Staff informed us a lot about things we didn't know regarding USA/Canadian interaction in history. It's nice seeing the other side you don't learn in school.

(Translated) A beautiful museum that recalls the history of the place. Take a tour under the falls to enjoy a closer look. There are two winters, the fall was almost frozen ... Beautiful !!! Good museum with a fair amount of info. Not a lot of artifacts. But enough to kill an hour. 2 if you watch the movie. Some spots upstairs were quite dirty. But overall a good little museum.

A little gem in a town with a lot going on! Quaint, quiet, and clean this museum gives info on the history of the area in the War of 1812 and the history of the falls itself. Small, interactive museum at a decent price. Friendly, helpful staff.

Sean Cooper

What a great little museum! $5 for a ticket - WOW! You won't get better value in Niagara Falls. You'll learn so much about the history of the falls. It was cool seeing how much the falls have receded over the years. I highly recommend that you go. It's well worth a visit.

The best part is how cheap the entrance fee is. Other than that, it’s pretty scarce. A few things about the war of 1812 and some old memorabilia. I feel like there’s probably an antique shop somewhere nearby with more history.

Danielle Creighton-Browne

They were friendly! Was a very clean environment! Have lots to look at and there were even things you could interact with!

Ryan Swayze

Great Overview of the History and Creation of this Urban area we call Home

Jeff Montana

Great place with a lot of interactivity to learn Canada's and Niagara's history. And I like their slogan "Come for the Falls, fall for the history"

Codyann Catlin

The museum is good for the price and the rooms are interesting giving you a good history of the Niagara Falls area. They have one room dedicated to the history of Niagra and an optional video about Niagra Falls as well. The second room is smaller and related to the war of 1812. You can touch hold guns and try on the uniforms. The final room changes ever so often. When we went there was modern artwork created on aboriginal schoolhouse doors depicting the culture. It is a bit of a drive from the Niagra area and there are only four free spots but the paid parking is not expensive. They have elevators and wheelchairs if necessary. A good activity for a rainy day or if you just love history.

Good place to learn about local history. You also get to put on a military costume and hold a rifle and take a picture looking like an English red coat of the 1800s.

Went in today for the family day event. Nice place and very informative on the history. A little busy as it was a free event, will definitely take the kids again.

Brad Hast

An interesting stop, part of the Niagara Falls visit. Gives an interesting history of the Niagara Falls USA side of the border. Was refreshing to learn that the politicians of the time decided to protect the natural beauty of the the falls, i.e. designate the NY side of the falls as a park vs. the original dynamic of over industrialized/polluted/over commercialized Niagara Falls NY. Politicians today wouldn't have made the same decesion. A must see stop of the overall Niagara Falls experience.

Marie-Caroline T

Small but interesting museum about the falls and the area. The interactive exhibitions are closed right now, but the museum is currently free (and very quiet, we stayed there for about 45 minutes and we were the only ones inside). Current hours are 10am-4pm (Tuesday through Sunday if I'm not mistaken).

Great piece of history. Very informative (though small)

If you're coming to Niagara Falls for a history lesson, start here. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. There is a lot about the War of 1812, but also much more about the history and science of the area, including items about present-day Niagara Falls and the people. Because of Covid some of the interactive exhibits are out of service, however they incorporated QR codes on the displays which link to videos about the exhibit. I recommend bringing a headset/headphones. Other reviews will mention that visiting the museum was free due to the pandemic, but as of the middle of August 2021 they are charging $5/person. Four stars because the parking lot was closed due to construction but this information was no where to be found prior to our arrival.

This business needs more qualified individuals in their human resources. They need to specify what type of students they require for jobs posted!! Two high school graduating students attended interviews for a recent position posted, just to be turned away at the door!! It seems they needed to be attending University to qualify. With their resumes already forwarded to the HR staff. You think they would have read their resumes before giving them interview appointments!! How pathetic.. shame on you!

Small museum containing a research wing and three exhibits. A heritage building fused with modern architecture, it provides a lot of natural light into the lobby. The front desk was polite and inviting. The museum is small but makes up for it with immersive and interactive displays. Excellent war room of the museum. Much info on the War of 1812. Artifacts too! One small detail however. The exhibit tries to make the African-Canadian soldiers of that war out to be more beneficial than the European-Canadians. Not a necessary detail. And not true!

Alan Czerkaszyn

A family friendly place. Expected more about the industrial history of Niagara Falls

Very bad experience as a museum thats public they certainly do not know how to handle people. They seemed very rude and as some would say stuck up . I as a person of disability was shocked to find one single disability parking spot for such a busy museum . Also when i walked in we weren't greeted friendly . Also they had special event going on we lined up for i being person with disabilty choose an area at back of line near a chair in case i needed to sit. A gentleman employee came up to me and said the line up was moved to another room to form a second line and to line up on the stairs i explained i have a disability and feel better being near the chair he said in a rude manner well go sit in the chair. I was made to feel embarrassed and not welcome. We continued on our tour of museum and tried to make best of it but left a sour feeling to day i didnt enjoy it as much as should of

Best museum I have ever been. It's a must try place I'd say. The best thing I loved and went for is the imperial British uniform and few of Us-Canada wartime objects. I'd like to recommend everybody to go and visit this place if you're by any chance visiting Niagara falls. Trip will not be completed without visiting this particular museum. Go ahead and enjoy the history of Canada and falls. It's easily accessible and there's not a long lineups like other museum which is a plus point. Thanks
