Here you have the opinions of people who know the services and products of Black Creek Pioneer Village (Museum) in the area close to Etobicoke (Canada).
Right now this business has a rating of 4.6 out of 5 and the score has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can see its rating is nearly the best one, and it's based on a large number of feddbacks, so we can say that the rating is very reliable. If there are many people who bothered to give their review when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to put feddbacks when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Museum belongs to the category of History museum.
Nice place. It provides a good insight of how things were centuries back. Staff were courteous and answered all our questions. ok
Very much enjoyed my time here! This is a cool place to scope out on a lazy afternoon. Take your time! there’s lots to see and explore. The staff was friendly and if you follow the map you’ll see the whole place in 2 hours.
We had a wonderful time. Beautifully kept grounds and a sense of preserved history that transported us back in time.
Oh my God, it was a wonderful experience. Went there with my family to check it out. In Calgary, there is a similar place by the name Heritage Park and so I wanted to visit this place as well. It was a really cool visit to see how people in canada previously lived as. It was really cool. Also, during the time that we went there, they had the Quilt Exhibition there and it was so awesome to see so many colorful quilts there. Took several pictures.
Surprisingly fun, we really enjoyed our time there, we spent over 3 hours on an extremely hot day, we could have easily stayed longer. The actors were excellent and interesting. Worth a visit.
A beautiful place worth a visit
Lovely tour guide in black creek ! All the building are beautiful and in a very good situation ????????
Black Creek Pioneer Village is an amazing little place full of adventure around every turn. City employees in period-dress share insights into the original buildings and way of life a century ago in the Toronto area. Buy beer or bread made right on site. Folks do use the old church house for weddings. Fall days and certain weekends there are horse rides for $2/person with young children free. Pick up prints of old newspapers or maps at the printing press house. Visit small and big animals around the farms. Well worth a visit for 3 to 4 hours.
Time travel to the past
Ine of the best places to visit with the family or friends!
Nice but disappointed that most things were closed or nobody there. I think they should advise that during the week minimal staff/actors and no performances. No brewery (main reason we came). Those people we did encounter were great, however. My advice to come on a weekend.
Loved them. Beautiful buildings they have gathered from all over. Their feel is genuine and easy to navigate. Their actors/historians are amazing, I felt like I got something out of everyone I spoke with. My favorite was the tinsmith demonstrating hurricane lanterns and the flaming figgy pudding with a brief and engaging history of Christmas dinner. So much fun. I will definitely return in the spring and summer and the fall and spend a full day there.
Great for families with kids good for groups and after April is the best time for visiting. Also the way bigger than I thought. Worth to visit at least once.
Love the historic feel of black creek. I love it so much I'm getting married there in September!
Canadian folk village
My kids absolutely love this place. A lot of fun and they get to learn something. I learn some things too.
The Canadian Tire Christmas Trail was setup beautifully and had fun throughout the drive thru. Me and my family enjoyed a lot. Thank you
Takes about 2 hours to fully tour and visit all the buildings in the village. We got to chat with the villagers who are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. Really makes you appreciate all the modern conveniences we take for granted. No food available due to Covid, so pack a lunch!
Unique experience, authentic, charming and beautiful scenery. Kind and enthusiastic staff.
It was a really nice community with a lot of things that children can learn. I went when I was younger and it really does help! I learned so much about the Pioneers and I really look forward to coming back soon!
Great as a brisk healthy walk in nature but not at all frightful or scary for the thrill seekers in you. This is a nice date spot or family oriented experience. For those looking for more scares try nightmares in niagara or fear farm. Again not bad and a nice scenic walk just not my cup of tea. Happy Haunting
Good for walks , cycling .. it is roughly 4 km long . Can start from parking lot at black creek trail... I go every day for my evening walks. Nice and calm. There are limited seating on the route.
Cool experience, lovely property to wander around and do some life drawing.
Beautiful place in the City.
nice place to spend some time, Specially guys who love old stuffs
Really good trip we had Senior Tamils Society Of Peel. Beautiful historical place. We wish we had more time to walk around. Kids enjoyed the trip aswell. Must come back again.
Well worth it for the price lot's of lights
Great visit at 25min drive from Toronto downtown. It's nice for a family trip, for kids or adults.
It's such a beautiful place. Peaceful and vintage.
The haunted walk was super fun, very well done
A place from fairytail stories:3
Zac was great! Haunted tour was amazing! Will be coming back.
Pioneer village oh how you are always a pleasure to visit. The wife and I did our wedding photos here and now cam with our 2 kids. The time we went they had a crime mystery event where you had to find clues throughout the village and visit each building in the village to get clues and also meet and ask the suspect characters question to help solve the crime. We thought this was a great and fun way to have the kids entertained and allow you to visit all buildings. The actors did such a great job in character and made the crime mystery event great. Love the way they maintain the property and building for people to learn and enjoy. Thank you BCPV.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, nice location! Just too bad that a handful of places were closed.
It was ok for a cheap outing with the kids. I hate saying I was a bit disappointed. They're not putting as much effort into "the show" as they used to. Would be better if the staff stayed in character. Guess I'm a kid at heart, but I was looking forward to that part of the experience and it just isn't there.
Nice pioneer village museum, wth lots to see and do, a good hike to see all the houses. Went during The Mennonite Festival and it was packed but not too crazy. Only problem was the lack of parking.
I really like the history of these houses. Some where closed but u could bring them. Friendly staff. I recommend this place.
Amazing place. Went with my 12yo daughter with special needs. The staff were amazing and it was calm and quiet on this homeschool day they had set aside. Lots of interactive workshops. Great acting and story telling and beautiful and educational “village” that will make u long for the simpler and more real life. Super clean grounds and well maintained and thought out. Bathrooms accessible and very clean!
I love this place because it brings me back to the old days and makes me appreciate what we have now a days that makes life a easier. The reason why it reminds me of the past is because back in the 80's i went on a few class trips there and it was fun, so I have great memories. Great learning experiences.
Nice place to go for a walk and learn something new at the same time.
Loved the quilt show
Wonderful place to take your kids or anyone with an open mind. Lots of parking.
Love this place. Always amazing. Friendly staff, authentic rustic buildings, livestock that are awesome. Would give 10 stars. I come here multiple times a year.
We attended the Canadian tire Christmas lights drive thru. It was fantastic! Amazing elves and Santa! Money raised goes to a good cause, jumpstart! ????????
Excellent, really great restoration and re-enactment with enthusiastic and knowledgable staff.
Great spot to bring the kids to learn about history in Ontario. The staff was quite friendly and knowledgeable. Similar to upper Canada village but not quite as big. Worth the drive if you've never been there
The village was exceptional! Really neat and well put together. The reason for the 3 star review is that many of the interpreters did not even engage or acknowledge us (lady in the printing press), and others did not have much knowledge about the craft they were interpreting. A few interpreters were great (such as in Major Macs house). Would recommend the park have learning class on how to interpret history.
It's great for the kids, but during the March Break, after you solve the mystery there isn't much to do. The food is overpriced, so we had lunch a bit later outside. All the staff are so friendly and they are always in-character. After all, it's always fun to escape back to the 18-1900s.
Great place to experience and learn about the history of Toronto. Note that the brewery is closed (permanently?).
Had lots of fun and learned some interesting things
My family and I love coming here. My daughter (2 yr old) can run around safely to her heart's content, pet the goats and gaze at the sheep. All the while, my husband and I get to enjoy the peacefulness of the grounds and the rich history of the architecture.
Great outdoor museum but more descriptions of the buildings would have been better. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable about the exhibits.
The Black Creek Pioneer villege was fun. We had fun trying out their costumes, and playing games of 18 century. The best part was the information they were providing at each house or attraction. It was priceless. I was fascinated to see how people were living their lives in 18th century. It was well maintained and clean property. The only suggestion I would like to give is having Audio tour. Veg BBQ burger and pink lemonade was irresistible... The Horses were of 18th century era and Royal. Very informative and fun for kids.
It is great place for kids. you may visit first time but you will come back again. This village has buildings and houses preserved from hundreds of years. You feel like you travel with time and suddenly you live in the past , from doctor tools to printhouses.
What I liked the most about this place was that this village was "alive"! Every person there had their own profession and was happy to share us some information about it. I surely recommend it to younger and older people!!
Excellent old tradition. Becoming nostalgic, becoming reminiscent!
Excellent place to visit with the kiddies. Just visited in November for the #CTChristmasTrail, enjoying the elves and Santa. Awesome place for hosting events where visitors need to be distanced.
Best vintage experience near toronto
Awesome trek into history. Really enjoyed the self guided tour. Would have been nice if there were a few more of the 'exhibits' being demonstrated. The mill for example.
The best of the best museums of Toronto. It's exactly like western movies, with all the shops and houses and public places. It should be visited in a good weather, though. They keep some animals, have people riding in the coaches. You would also see lots of weddings! I would visit there again, no doubt.
This was a great place to go and just wander. The buildings were amazing, and the staff were very friendly and informative. The exhibits showed just how people lived a hundred and two hundred years ago. It was very quiet this time of year. Visit the brewery if you are interested.
What a wonderful spot to visit. We also did the Haunt tour in early October.
Conceptually terrifyingly awesome! Our tour guide didn't play up the part but the feel and eeriness of each place has to be awesome under the right tour guide!!
Great little halloween tour. Kids enjoyed it!
Nice place to see how they lived during the old days. And great for kids to play with the sheep and chicken.
The place is very beautiful. We took a guided tour with Anthony, called Time travellers, and really felt like back in time. Highly recommend.
19th century village in Toronto. Well maintained with staff to explain everything. Interesting to how the city was 200 years ago. Make sure to take lunch with you while you visit
Amazing place for kids. Staff is beyond friendly, making every effort in making this place interesting
We really loved this place when we went round. The buildings were very interesting and the people brought it to life for us. We got to have discussions on the such varied things as Pigs value to the communities back then to the spices used in the local inns kitchens. The metal working shop was also fascinating to watch, if lived nearer id be back regularly. P.s. Although for kids we also enjoyed the trail of youngsters getting into work.
A beautiful place where the time stopped a couple of centuries ago. Really nice preserved and great for the children to learn and play.
On Murray Ross Pkwy heading to Steele Ave West... Beautiful ????
I head to Black Creek Pioneer village several times a year for meetings. I have never toured the brewery or experienced the pioneer village - my experience is limited to the meeting facilities. There are several meeting rooms available as well as catering services. The village is easily accessible for anyone coming from outside of Toronto, because it is just off Highway 407. Parking is ample.
Excellent place, but closed. Movie theaters opened, gyms opened, shopping malls opened, but Pioneer village is still closed. Replace the management and open the museum. Let the families enjoy summer time at the pioneer village.
The building are the greatest for information in regards to the 1700 to 1800. Always something to learn. Also the beer is great!
Splendid place. Excellent for summer day visit. Kids friendly and has many stories to tell
I went to the ghost black creek pioneer village event and it was nice to place to walk and discover more stories about Canada.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff.. great tour.. well kept
An amazing blast from the past hidden away in a busy urban area. Truely a jewel of Toronto that too many people seem to over look or forget about. With the subway now close by, and nightlife activities eager to associate with Black Creek Pioneer Village, there is room for everyone to enjoy. From tourist to locals, historians to lovers, and kids of all ages; you will regret not visiting this magical location.
Wonderful place to see in Toronto. An excellent show how the beginning of Canada looked like. The work of people playing as blacksmith, tin maker or horse accessories maker is outstanding. Very informative, accessible by people in wheelchairs or with strollers. Essentially - a must see place for anybody who is interested in history.
Very good!
Beautiful place for taking photos takes you back in time
BCPV is a wonderful place to take the family to reconnect. A beautiful place to go for a walk with wonderful scenery and a sense of serenity. Always something new to see or do and the cast members are first class all the time. Pack a picnic, unplug the kids and take them back in time to the 1800s.
Very beautiful place located in North York. Worth visiting for sure. It’s a open air heritage museum. Providing information about life style of people during Victorian-era. Best time to visit this place is October.
Honestly I had a very pleasant experience. I had gone when I was younger and had to go again recently for a university assignment. The costumed actors are knowledgeable. I don’t imagine it’s easy doing what they do. The lemon cookies at the Halfway House were tasty. It’s odd they didn’t have any First Nations costumed actors when I went (Tuesday, Fall, 2018) though. Because I’m sure First Nations people existed in 1867 Ontario. It was their land this was all built on after all. Something BCPV should think about if they haven’t already. It’s shady not to include an entire race of people out of a history they were a part of.
We come here every year for the Mennonite Festival. It's such a great tradition! I love walking the paths and seeing the animals. All the yummy food and quilt auction doesn't hurt either!????
A blast from the past.
Really great day out. All of the actors are super knowledgeable - we had really interesting conversations with all of them. We also bought some freshly baked bread from the halfway house which was super tasty!
It was nice, quiet, not much going on due to covid restrictions but still nice to get out in an area where overcrowding is not an issue
Nice open air museum! Looks aoutentic. Nice to see people demostrating their work.
Pricing for all ages wasn't overly expensive. In our experience we probably needed more than one day to try and fit everything in. So much information to learn when standing in each house talking to the staff working there. Alone you need a good quantity of time just to take in the houses, learn how to do candle dipping, having your fortune told by Apple peels. Trying freshly baked gingerbread cookies and apple cider. I would recommend taking the kids to learn some fun history
Fun-filled activities for the children. I'm surprised that parents took the time to dress up their children with the show theme. Educational and entertaining to know the way the pioneers lived in the 19th century. What I think that's lacking in the village is a school. I wonder if homeschooling was prevalent that time. Devote at least four hours to go around the village and participate in the activities. I'll definitely go back.
I love it and it's a grateful place to go
Pioneer Village is an amazing place to have a wedding. It's a ton of fun for photos, and the food is really great too!
I've been going there for 39 years, and I'm 39. Its a place of peace and learning and exploration. Perfect for kids and families. Kids can run around freely and safely. I always take family there.
Great place to visit with whole family during winter time.
If you are a Toronto kid, you spent a trip or two at the Village. Lots of found memories revisiting.
I only have great memories here. Always stunning regardless of the season. Will always recommend.
Whether you want to go on a date, spend some time with family and friends or have a personal day to explore, this is the place! It takes you back in time to the life of a Pioneer. It's a fun and educational experience for everyone!
I give this awesome place a five stars plus. I enjoyed all the colonial style buildings, learned about the lifestyle of settlers, and enjoyed some chats with people entertaining guests. A very nice place to visit.
A super pleasant way to spend an afternoon, especially on a date. Loved the vibe. Do the beer tasting!
Really interesting. The stories are also really well done and adds value to the visit.
The place was beautifully kept cleaned and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and they are very knowledgeable. It was worth every penny spend for me and I really enjoy my 3 hours trip to the village. Nice scenery and nice amenities for visitors.
So great for kids. Lots of space for them to run about. Friendly staff. Lots of parking. A small cafe with burgers, hot dogs, drinks. Should go in warmer weather cause most of the stuff is outside. Think Markham Museum x 10 in size.
Went to Tales & Ales tonight and had a good time. The haunted walk was only about 40 minutes long, and the beer tasting about 20 minutes. Beer is brewed in house and very good. You can buy some on the spot. Wish tour was longer, as I felt it was hurried. Guide was polite and knowledgeable. Would return if they made it longer to explore a little bit.
Amazing living museum, all staff are very knowledgeable about the times. Great family place.
One of the most beautiful places on earth very lovely
It's very amazing place it was fun experience
The haunted walk experience was very interesting and fun!!! Zoe was very nice and great at telling haunted stories and a super host! Loved the experience
Very nice place for a Sunday with the family and small kids.
A little gem in North York (now accessible by subway), we've found it to be a very good way to spend a few hours while learning about how life was around 1850. Very educational for kids (and not only)! Many interesting things to see, from a Mason lounge to the Mill which is quite a nice piece of engineering. Kudos to the volunteers that are spending their time explaining and showing many of the village's features: the Printing House, Weaver, the Doctor's house... there is something for anyone. As a suggestion, we would've liked to see more animals such as: horses, cows and pigs. The only negative note - which doesn't have anything to do with the Village - is the fact that it's situated exactly under the landing flight path for the Pearson Airport. There is a plane flying by every few minutes. In spite of that, I strongly recommend the place for a relaxing few hours and a bit of history.
Been before and after Covid, always clean and polite. Always in character, always so much to learn, large large property compared to other “pioneer” places I’ve been. Tons of activities for kids and lots to enjoy for adults too!
Nice place to spend a day in. Walking the streets and visiting the houses of this nicely preserved village brings you back to the 19th century for one day. The resort there is at a level of a hot-dog kiosk but it's fine if you don't expect a there forks level :-)
Wonderful way to see and experience how the people lived back then. The staff is lovely and friendly.
Village was great. Nice way for the kids to see Santa and there was lots of Christmas Carols being sung! We made the mistake of doing the dinner package. Food was ok, but expensive. Our server was brutal... I think he could only carry one plate at a time and we had to ask him for everything... So needless to say, dinner took along time and it was late by the time we got out to explore the village with the little ones...
Great family outing
We really enjoyed our time here. We came by on a Friday around 11 a.m. so there wasn't a lot of people. The weather made it feel even better. Loved the layout and the history (well the good parts that we heard about.)
@HauntedWalks does a great job filling the evenings with historical fact and spooky tales. A group of story tellers who love these homes really are ernest in their entertainment. Great night time bubble visit option.
Nice place for family
My first time visiting. It was so beautiful in the winter and the snow-topped trees. Also had nice Christmas decorations. It was a bright day, not freezing cold. We did the self-guided tour. I downloaded and printed a map but the arrows …
We went for the haunted tour. I can't wait to go back during the day to see the entire village. The haunted walk lived up to it's haunted name.
I've gone to Black Creek Pioneer Village multiple times since I was a kid and I always have such a great time! Most recently, I attended last night's Haunted Walk tour. Our guide, Sarah, was super knowledgeable and amazing storyteller. She had so many eerie anecdotes to share with us on our tour. It was easy to enjoy ourselves while remaining socially distant from the other 4 people that joined us. There was the perfect balance of spooky stories, as well as being able to explore the experience the houses in a brief walk-through. We even spotted two spirits while on the tour -- on the stairwell of the Half-Way House, and someone walking along the path near the church cemetery. I'll definitely be coming back for another one of these tours and recommending it to my friends.
We attend Black Creek Pioneer Village each year with Grade 3 students for the Experience and Explore program. Our tour guides have always been excellent and engaging for students. They really enjoy seeing the buildings, the tools, and the farm animals. The program is well prepared with a short amount of time in the middle to allow students to eat their lunches before breaking out into hands-on pioneer activities. Ex) trying on pioneer clothing, spinning wool, playing pioneer games. Overall, I give Black Creek and their programs 5 stars. We will continue to return each year.
This's a great place to visit in fall. Beautiful, my family and I enjoyed, all the tour.
Beautiful place...lots of things to see and learn.
Nice place with affordable price
Awesome. It's so much fun. I went not having been there in years. It has improved. New, to me anyway, restaurant, gift shop and education centre. Great for those nifty places for your Instagram shots.
Black Creek Pioneer Village is always a good experience for us and the kids. Everyone finds something to be interested in: animals, devices, food, beauty of the site... and of course enlightening discussions with the staff!
The Christmas light show is a must see if you have young kids
I never got to go on a field trip here, so today was my first visit. It's now super easy to get to by TTC (only about a ten minute walk). The buildings are beautiful, bit hot, but that's not unexpected. The staff are nice and knowledgeable. There is a beer tasting in the basement of one of the buildings which was very neat. I'm really interested in print making, weaving, sewing and all that kind of stuff so I found it fascinating. Went with a few friends and had a picnic lunch, I wanted to sit on the grass but the guys didn't want to so took advantage of the proper seating they have. Washrooms were super clean, there is a water fountain/water bottle filling station right by the washrooms which was also handy. Also at the start there's an exhibit thing where you can pick a character and follow them around the place, my group dumbly each picked one which made it difficult since you go to different places in a different order based on characters...so maybe don't do that. Pick one and follow them around.
Amazing place to visit with the family, Super clean and friendly staff, cafe is great just a little small. check it out. it's a great day's outing and learn so history.
Loved the experience. Kids played detective, it was so cute watching them interrogate the staff! Would go again!
Don't waste your money if you plan to go during weekdays. 40% of exhibits closed for corporate parties. 20% without any attendees. 10% just closed for the day. Blacksmith and printshop were good worthy of mentioning.
It's stepping back into history, the volunteers doing an amazing job of explaining, demonstrating how the Pioneers would craft everyday objects. It's easy to lose track of time a fun day for everyone
No spoilers here! Visited Black Creek for their Halloween event, The Haunting at Black Creek. Our host, Jack, was amazing. They made sure to engage everyone from the group and really made it a fun experience. It was neat to learn the history of the building we were exploring. It wasn't as scary as it was made out to be on their website.
Perfect day for a stroll and take in fall colours in the city while the kids get to dress up and enjoy the Halloween activities.
Excellent Experience, Highly Recommend
A great historical place to be visited frequently with friends, families and kids. They have preserved history very well. Take sometime out and enjoy the outdoor scenery, green fields, old houses, beautiful shops, barn and farm. Meet the farm animals and pet them. Enjoy a buggy ride in summer. Observe the beauty of mill. Experience the wonderful events and exhibitions especially, in Halloween. Great place for parties and events. Staff is very helpful and friendly and look fabulous in their traditional old outfits.
One of my favourite place to go as a kid and now as an adult. I’m a lover of history and this place is not only beautiful but provides interesting history of the past and is always a delight. I also enjoyed the Halloween guided ghost tour.
Awesome place to visit
The service is friendly from the reception. I liked the place. I visited the place in winter, the decoration is beautiful. They teach you their traditional dance and Christmas carols all with live music. Don´t forget to try the hot apple cider with a lemon cookie that is my favorite. Everything they bake there is delicious.
A great place to know about Canadian history.
I've been there for the harvest festival, the old village is authentic and the actors are nice. They also make good apple cider ????
Really nice place with a lot of history. Well organized offers entertainment for the entire family. Being a village there’s a lot of walking outside so you have to dress for the weather. We enjoyed the gallery which is air conditioned and then visited different houses, each providing a bit of insight. There are washrooms and facilities for babies. The parking lot is ample and you get friendly service through the place. We would love to come back and do another beer tasting at the local nano brewery.
Love this place. Kids loved the animals. Can order hearth baked bread if you get there early (sells out fast).
Nice place to walk around. We went for the Fall Fair. There were some fun added activities. It is a pioneer village, so if you're looking for something flashy, this isn't it. But we had a great time wandering around. There are very limited food options. The food place outside has burgers and hot dogs, no French fries, but happily they do have veggie burgers.
Good for single visit with kids of age group 5-10... worth visiting once.. it has great shop inside for buying antiques..
You'll feel like being part of an episode of "Little House on the Prairie". Highly recommended.
The open Christmas evening village was great for children and adults alike. Lots to do, Christmas carrols, music, history, stories, tasting of cookies, hot chocolate, apple cider, etc., rag doll making. The Christmas dinner was extremely poor and not worth the price. No one liked the food in my party. The soup was alright, the turkey, stuffing and trimmings horrible, and desert was delicious.
Varied collection of buildings, lots of activities for kids (including a family play). Go when the weather is nice since it is an outdoor village. When I went on a sunny day in 2016 this place was amazing! Definitely worth the trek up there. Great memories.
Awesome @ Canadian tire Christmas Trail
Had Sarah as our Haunted Tour Guide on Sunday, and they were so great at story telling. They added suspense, interest, and made the story fun to listen too! My partner and I had a great time :)
Had a great time experienced a few things the weirdest thing my camera won't take pictures after the main building
It’s very nice place to spend a day with your family. I went there once and I really enjoyed it
As an attraction, it's great... Lots of fun info and experience... But the Xmas dinner is a real disappointment - really poor quality food and little Xmas atmosphere. Very bad - save your money and just go to just the village.
Not crowded good for my kid who is interested in history
Lots of historical buildings to look at and stuff to see inside the houses. They bake their own bread and make lemonade (both get sold out very quickly). The place has a feeling of a two-century old village, the only problem is that all you can do is just wander around looking and maybe feeding the sheep. Would be great to have more hands-on activities for kids, otherwise they get bored very soon.
We visited Black Creek Pioneer Village for the escape game "Where Dark Things Dwell". We were a bit worried about the weather for a couple of reasons. It's started out as the hottest day of the year and there was an imminent threat of thunder and lightning. Officially, the game was to be cancelled if there was lightning, so we were hoping to complete the mission before the weather hit. We had a fabulous game regardless though ! The actors that help support the game bring in an aspect of roleplaying, which really added to my experience. Puzzles were well done, I don't want to spoil anything, but the tasks were challenging to some of the most veteran players in our group. Bring comfortable shoes though, since there can be a considerable amount of walking. I really got my money's worth out of this visit and recommend it to escape game enthusiasts. I also think it would be appropriate for first time players too, since there is a lot of staff support throughout.
Brought my family here for the first time this past month and I only wish I’d discovered it earlier! Wonderful place to explore. We all loved the Punch and Judy show, and the kids were pretty thrilled with the animals. Mum and Dad would have preferred to have lingered over the historical aspects a bit more, but hopefully when the kids are older and have a bit more patience.
Old school but fun. Our daughter might drag her feet about going but once she is there she doesn't want to leave. She loves learning about how things were done in the old days. She loved the Halloween treasure hunt. She loves talking to the actors who learn their craft. She loves all the animals. It's fun mix for both adults and kids for learning. You can also have weddings and host functions there. And if you want to learn about the "mysterious" stone masons, check out their hidden room!
Great experience and great covid precautions. Had more space and comfort in each house.
We enjoyed our experience at Halloween Hootany despite the rain. Would have been better with spooky Halloween music throughout the village and Maybe a horse drawn buggy/ carriage rides and more Halloween decor.
Very cool place and fun time. My girlfriend want check out the other haunted walks that they offer at other locations.
They had a civil war reenactment going on so the kids had to solve the clues. Had a lot of fun, learned a lot. Tried the beer tasting. Was definitely an interesting experience. Overall a great experience. We will be back for sure. We were also told that they do a Victorian era event in the winter. Looking forward to that!
Went with a group of approximately 50. It was by far the best experience I have ever had at an escape room. I would highly recommend this escape room for groups of 5-7 as that's what we were split into. Discretion: there are jump scares, as well as hooded figures, which some may find frightening. Regardless, highly recommend and great fun!
So a pretty place to visit!
Excellent. Good to see how life was way back when... reminded me of the black country museum back in Dudley uk.
Time to back historical lifestyles
I had wanted to visit this place for several years and it exceeded all my expectations! What a great place to see and show kids how people used to live. Very interesting and informative. All staff members were very helpful and eager to answer any questions.
We go once or twice a year with our daughter, always learn something new
GREAT TIME. Great place for photography.
Great historic village built around an existing farm. Buildings mostly from the mid 1800s, including a stone mill, a church, a brick schoolhouse, an in (with a brewery in it now), print shop, weavers shop and more. Visitors center has a few indoor displays and shekter from the weather. Lots of stuff to do on Victoria Day.
Good for kids. It takes one hour to see it all
Ive been here many times and it is great. The staff are costumed and match the pioneer theme. The buildings are super cool and smell nice aswell. Its not the best historic village out there but its a great place to visit.
We went in the winter and had the entire village practically to ourselves. It was lovely in the freshly fallen snow. Many of the interpreters were a little sleepy but the man in the printshop was great! Also most certainly a spooky place and I can't wait to come back and take a Haunted Walk Tour there!
Excellent place i have ever seen and people and staff are very kind and nice.
Very informative and a great family outing
March Break at the Pioneer Village was really cool, keeping the kids entertained for a super low cost was definitely worth it. They were really into the scavenger hunt. Experiences are all what you make them.
I attended a wedding here. It's a lovely place to have a wedding with lots of wonderful photo ops due to all the historic buildings. The service and food was also excellent. Just a tip, if you want to have an outdoor wedding, make sure you do it in the summer as it gets quite cold in the evening in the fall.
Great place to take the kids. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Paid parking was $7 for the day, payable by credit card at the gate, or you can pay at a small ticket booth close to the gate (which is not convenient at all). There's a really cool brewery in the basement of one of the buildings that offers tasting flutes for $5. The farm, printing house, half way house and mill stood out as really cool places for us.
Went on the night time house haunting. Very cool experience. Worth the $ and worth it to see my friends so creeped out. :D
It's probably one of my favorite places in the city. Its community based. The vegetables are always fresh. The service is amazing and the team there are very welcoming. The images you're seeing were captured by me for the black roots collective brunch.
It is definitely worth visiting . You learn a lot about brave men and women who made this beautiful country out of frozen land. Highly recommend.
Wonderful place to see some Canadian pioneer history.
Really enjoying the visit. Best bit for me wa the knowledgeable staff for everything from weaving to the press. Kids also enjoyed spending time outdoors and the animals.
Very nice outdoor museum. The staff are very informative and pleasant. The buildings are kept as original and functional as possible. The haunted events they have are very well done and we enjoyed them a lot.
Great peaceful place with staff who love to share the historic tales of a simpler time. Live animals that get great love and care, all around amazing attraction. Well worth the free after 2 on Tuesday.
I really loved visiting this place with the kids. The houses are well presented, staff are outgoing and engaging, animals are well cared for and varied, the toys and dollhouse are fascinating. There are picnic areas and washrooms are clean and well appointed. I recommend visiting this place. We usually go in summer but the fall & Christmas activities are on my wishlist.
I like here, Interesting and exiting place ????
I took my son here last year when I was trying to find something to do with him during the pandemic. I got to say that I was pretty impressed with the place. There’s lots to see and you do feel like you’re being taken back in time with some of the exhibits. It’s a large area so you can easily spend at least an hour there. Definitely worth the visit!
The march break Sherlock mystery was a lot of fun! Our party had a 4 year old, 35 year old, and 70 year old who all loved gathering the clues. Great day with the family! You can take a carriage ride to avoid the muddy paths, or even grab a quick bite at the Victoria room downstairs.
Great to bring the kids to a place back in time where things were simpler and easier going. Just walk around building to building and explore. Not that complicated. There are a few live demonstrations and re-enactments to keep it more interesting as well. Food and beverages available with a convenient gift shop inside main facility. Affordable admission and reasonable parking fees. Highly recommend.
It's based on civic conditions for the past 100-200 years.
Great place, family friendly great for a fun spring day trip.
Lovely historical village in the centre of Toronto.
When we visited they were giving guided tours due to covid. Our guide was awesome. It was too bad we couldn't self explore but we understood the restrictions. Wonderful place. Our 2nd visit.
Great ghost walk and fun time. Well put together and good family fun
Was a great experience and our tour guide zac with a c not a k was amazing. Well spoken and story telling was very well done. Highly recommended.
Outstanding. I feel in love with this place with the incredible beauty here from ponds, animals, wind mill, old buildings beautiful nature that I was inspired to perform magic here, filmed TV shows here and got married here. This place is magical. A faerie tale of beauty
I truly love this place and I love the fact that it's so serene and on the outside of the fence it's just back to real life and the busyness of today's day and age. I love the authenticity or how they try to maintain the authenticity of the olden days. Unfortunately because of covid restrictions my visit wasn't as great as it used to be. The tours were limited. There is nobody in each exhibit to correspond with and get information from and ask questions to. You were just left on your own to read the signs and figure it out. I wasn't able to get any fresh bread nor was I able to go into the emporium and get some souvenirs. I was able to visit the gift shop on the way out and get some old fashioned lollipops and Infamous rock candy. Just did not seem as inviting as previous. I will continue to support the Black Creek Pioneer village as it is historical landmark here in the Jane and Finch community.
Amazing & educational place for all family) So beautiful heritage buildings and interesting history here. Save during COVID-19: time slots for visitors, spacious outdoor museum. You can see a farm animals here: goats, sheeps, horses, gooses and bunnies .
Black Creek Pioneer Village is a wonderful natural retreat from the city. Seeing the heritage animals is amazing and a great way to reconnect with our food system. Black Creek is also a very interactive and real way to learn about Canadian history and specifically about the history of the Toronto region. Great way to spend the day with the kids. I can’t recommend this place highly enough! It’s also quite easy to get there by TTC now that they’ve built the new subway extension.
Fantastic experience.
Nice place to visit but it was pretty bleak in November with minimal staff and many of the buildings closed or not running live demos. Go in the summer.
Came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Spent about 2 hours walking around. it was fun, interesting glimpse into another era. The costumed 'villagers' told educational stories (especially liked the lady talking about the pig farm, candle making...). I would say 2 hours is about enough to see everything. Unless you come with kids, then you probably need more time. Also, easily accessible by subway, very convenient.
Very interesting and educational place, full of fun!!!
An absolute Delight to visit. The staff is very knowledgeable and really Keen to share their knowledge. The place has still maintained the same charm and aura as it possibly would have had in the 1700s. I must visit if you are a history buff or if you have been watching a lot of Frontier or any other similar shows and just want to experience the ambience!!!
We were there for the Canadian Tire christmas trail and it was the best light drive thru I have ever done. Highly recommended ????
Beautiful!! We all loved the experience and can't wait to go back!
More than ancient village in heritage please
Great location, nice to discover the history of the area. Also interesting to hear about the hauntings here.
Wonderful place to explore the way people used to live almost 200 years ago. I enjoyed a lot and learnt many things visiting this place.
Nice quite huge place to spend a nice weekend. Has houses from 18th century and showcases how Canadians lived at that time. Very nice place to have a family picnic with some magic and story telling shows during Halloween time. Highly recommended ????
I just came from there Halloween event Bravo you guys everything was great. My husband and I are looking forward to coming back for xmas to see you guys again.. Keep up the great work
You can feel living in 19th century
Great place to spend the day. If you’ve been there before it’s quite repetitive. Desperately in need of some sort of ideas and entertainment . Gift shop is expensive and sells the same old items.
That's incredible place to know how was the Canada in the past. All the houses are real from the past, they just moved the houses to the village. Some houses were constructed at the village in the past. Don't forget to try the beer. It taste amazing.
Even as a kid this place has held good memories. Very friendly and informative staff. My 5-year-old had a great time. Will definately go back next year.
Fantastic Christmas Trail experience!
Wonderful staff, great for children to learn about early Canada
Great place to go for any age. Very cool
Fun for all ages. The Halfway House Restaurant has good food. Plus a historic brewery on site. We go every December to see Santa - this place never disappoints.
Village with old houses. May be interesting for kids, but as for me some bored.
I went there for Christmas with my husband a few years ago It was a warm experience , you get a taste of the old world charm. It would be nice to visit in the summer and Fall at some point. I recommend this place and the staff were really friendly. The only disappointment was the beer brewery wasn’t open.
So happy i purchased the photo permit for pioneer village!! Photos are amazing! The only part i was disappointed in was parking... if i purchased a photo permit and they allow 20 people for the permit i believe parking should be included for the vehicles but unfortunately only 1 vehicle is included. other then that great experience
Great times as always!
Nice place to visit during summer to learn about Canadian history. Teaches us about the life style of olden days
Nice village
Great place. Lots for the kids to do. Visited during the howling hootenanny and it was alot of fun. Kids enjoyed the crafts, all the farm animals and visiting the buildings. We have a TRCA membership and its a good buy. We often visit the various events throughout the year.
Enjoyed returning to Black Creek Pioneer Village after 25+ years. I vaguely remember some of the things that I saw in grade school. I came with my children who are 5 and 7 and we had a great time visiting the exhibits on our own. There is a lot of reading to go through in the exhibit indoors. It was fun to see the animals (sheep, goats, turkeys and horses). It took us over 2 hours to go through the village. I hope to come back again before I let another 20 years pass.
So glad we went!! Amazing exhibit!
If you love history, antiques or animals you will love this place. Being "hugged" multiple times by a Clydesdale horse is special.
Great place to take the kids! This is a fun and educational place to have fun and learn something new.
Lovely presentation of settler times. The story game is great fun, but it won't work with a large group. Lots of information and artifacts with people reenacting some of the history. Lots of fun!
Our family spent 4 hours in the Village and felt like walking back in 1800s to see Canadian lives at that time. It was truly a great way to learn histories. I also enjoyed the drama acting, and my wife and daughter loved to see some farm animals there, too.
On November 11th 2017, our daughter and son in law had their wedding there. The staff were so helpful and friendly, various guests had food requests; ie: gluten allergies, vegetarian, lactose intolerant. Nothing was a problem including Scottish guests over indulging in whisky. Definitely a place for a Wedding????????????????!!
It's my second time to visit, still enjoy the village, handmade craft, animals, especially the beer and food
I love visiting the pioneer village because there are so many old buildings and furniture beautiful . It's fun using the old toys, like the stilts, and going to see the animals too. It's also a very reasonable price to enter since you can spend the day there looking at everything. we Will never get tired of visiting!
Great way to step back in time to experience how early settlers went about their daily activities. Well laid out village with many hands on activities for everyone. Farm animals on site. Friendly staff answer questions and guide you through the village buildings demonstrating a variety of tasks and games. Weekends are busy and on weekdays you may experience groups visiting for the day but children 14 and under enjoy free admission Monday-Friday. The park is able to host special occasions and events too. Well worth visiting this heritage museum. Services available for a fee and fine gift shop and food available. On site paid parking. Save on admission by becoming a member.
Amazing
Takes you back to 1850+/-, feels like realistic mmorpg. Great vibes of a simple life back then. Its literally a small village There are shops from the past with real old content like groceries, boots, clothing, machines, tools for home. Definitely must to visit !
Lovely village set in early 1860s - smaller and bit more run-down than Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg. Did the self-guided tour - expect to spend 2-4 hours here, especially if you want to visit all the buildings and have a snack or lunch in the middle along with washroom break as it's a lot of walking! I recommend arriving as soon as they open at 11am so you can walk through at your own pace. Pre-covid, they had staff dressed up in the buildings but not anymore, so expect to walk through empty buildings and do the reading/ discovering on your own. Of course there is restricted access to some areas (i.e. staircases in buildings to go upstairs/ downstairs to basement, eating areas, etc.). They have some thematic tours at different times; we joined the farm animal tour in the second half of our visit. The guide was very knowledgable and engaging. The gift shop is also open for treats and souvenirs. I recommend this place for a family outing :)
My family went for the CT Christmas trail. It was a magical experience. I would highly recommend for anyone who loves Christmas.
Michelle took us through the village on a haunted night walk. Great fun and a good time to be had!
Came for the escape room experience. It was great! The actors were awesome and the puzzles were challenging. The village is also very cute! Will definitely be back!
Went here for a wedding and it was magical experience. Would definitely recommend if you want something outdoors and intimate!
We were at an event today a Black Creek Pioneer Village. The venue was a wide open covered beautiful space. It was very peaceful and quiet. The food was good and the service was great.
I loved Black Creek Pioneer Village because it shows you how we need to live. Black Creek is a perfect representation of how the modern age is ruining the way our lifestyles should be. This place teaches you how to farm so that you are eating organic food and much more!
We went here basically to pass the time while waiting to check in to our hotel. We had a good time and everyone was very friendly. We bought some fresh baked bread and cookies made in an old brick wood oven which were delicious. If you haven't been you should check it out, it's interesting to see how people lived back then.
I went for Zimski festival that was advertised. Drove for 50 to find out that the Zimski is like a small local get together with hotdogs and bad music and lots of smokes. I was so disappointed that I drove my kids all the way for nothing. Also the whole place is haunted someone told me. All the buildings are historic and old. The place was dark and not enough lights.
I haven't been to pioneer village since I was 11 years old and I took my 11 year old daughter here for her first time and I am glad we came. She had so much fun and learned so much in the 3 hours we stayed there. We will be going back for sure but in the fall to see the village during that time of year.
Even on a rainy day it was wonderful, loved it.
Loved it. ❤
The tours were so informative. I highly recommend taking them.
I always love visiting the pioneer village because there's so much to do and see! The old buildings and furniture are so beautiful and the staff are very knowledgable. It's fun using the old toys, like the stilts, and going to see the animals too. It's also a very reasonable price to enter since you can spend the day there looking at everything. There's also a nice picnic area so you can bring your own lunch or take a break from walking. Will never get tired of visiting!
I have been going to Black Creek Pioneer Village for years i love going to the Halloween Hootenany Christmas at the Village and i have been to the Christmas Dinner three times i really enjoyed Christmas by Lamplight so beautiful to go back in time. I love the Village during the Summer time spend alot of time exploring the buildings and love the Village during March break and the Maple Syrup Festival..
It's a nice place to go with the family on a warm day!
Absolutely greart way to spend the day with the family. Although I do want to return when Covid restrictions lift. Very fun and informative. The staff was very friendly and eager to share their knowledge. The only negative sdpect was that their hours of operation weren't long enough.
One of my favorite places to visit since I was a child, so happy it is still around
Dina was an amazing tour guide! Excellent at story telling, and providing an over the top experience! Creepy Ghost Walk!
This is a great way to spend a day. The staff is very nice and can give you a lot of information of the houses and people that lived around that time. Kids will love it!
Suggestion to Pioneer Village: please have more staff stationed throughout the village offering information/ demonstrations. Would be nice to walk into a building and see someone in period clothing giving demonstrations/ information about the different skills/ trades of that time period.
Coming here for the doors open event. Parking is terrible. No one is patrolling. Two lanes to exit and allow one car to exit at a time. As all the cars waiting to exit, it creates a huge traffic as other cars can't go around to park in the parking lot. We don't even bother to park and go in.
My family's favourite day trip destination.
This a place I never tire of. Went with family and with friends. People think it is just a place for school trips. Not so. If you like history, you will love the historical interpreters who are very keen to share their knowledge with you. Lovely on a sunny day! Closed in winter. Enjoy!
Fantastic place for visiting with kids! There is a lot to learn about the ways everyday things were done in the 19th century. The actors are amazing in answering any additional questions you might have too.
I was amazed to find such an amazing heritage spot in the city. It is located in a quiet street but certainly has lots to offer. The staff were truly friendly and good story tellers. Great performers as well... I'm still keeping lots of the pictures I took. Great experience though I did not get to taste the find products of the brewery.
Great historical place! There are not so many nice places to visit with kids! My grandson really enjoyed it. Location is good, new subway station is very close too!
Ghost walk was great would definitely do it again
Wonderful experience
Great place ????
I haven't been here for about 50 years (yeesh) but thought that new Canadian family friends would enjoy it and the did! My friends from Turkey have daughters 11 and 14 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed every exhibit and the stories told by the staff in costume! I totally recommend this place and the admission prices are very fare!
Take a walk down history lane. Well trained actors will help you along delivering amazing stories of how things worked in good old days. Highly recommended.
We were at Black Creek Pioneer Village drive-thru Christmas lights display and it was amazing!!! It was a great way to get into the spirit through the pandemic. Hopefully it won’t be mandatory next Christmas, but I would definitely do this again given the option. A good way to stay warm, be festive & look at lights.
I came here with clients and we were the 1st group to do the "North Property" tour....our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable....overall an amazing experience!
Took my son here when he visited Toronto. This place is tucked away from the the hustle and bustle of the city while remaining in the city. Village is made up from buildings onsite and locations from around Toronto area from the 18 hundreds. Village depicts what it was like living through these times through interpreters. Allow at least two hours to see everything. Activities for children.Makes for a great family outing.
We last went over MARCH BREAK. It was a lot of fun and the Sherlock Holmes Mystery was a lot of fun for children and parents. It's too bad that the restaurant in the HALFWAY HOUSE is closed. We enjoyed the experience of eating here. You must go early to reserve bread and cookies. They're delicious
Enoyed these Christmas lighting there and the whole trailer is so well organized that each visitor feels a personal attention and touch.
Really nice experience , I visited in late fall/early winter. The staff is very friendly and inclusive. Takes you back in the 18th century <3
Something fun to do with kids!
This place is very interesting. Very impressed with the people that work there. The were knowledgeable and seems to enjoy sharing and talking about the heritage associated with it????
Got married here in October! The food was fantastic, the on site event organizer was amazing like having a personalized wedding planner. The staff made getting married as stress free as possible. My guests raved about the food and how beautiful the venue was. The pictures turned out amazing! I'd recommend the veue to anyone. It's also a very cool place to just spend the day with the family!
Very educational ☺️
Great place, great experience. Everyone is so friendly and professional, great to take a step back in time.
This is awesome place! Very peaceful!
Attended Pioneer Villages halloween event and had a horrible experience. Would not recommend unless you're willing to stay silent for 75 minutes. During the tour no talking was allowed. A group of us were whispering during the tour talking about the place and we were told we were being disruptive. We were talked down to by the tour guide in a very unprofessional manner. Instructions were unclear as to where we could and couldn't go once in the buildings and was told to leave because we weren't "following rules" even though the rules stated were unclear. We were also not told about smoking rules on the premisses while outdoors and got reprimanded for that as well. When speaking to the manager she was extremely unprofessional. We were told we were being confrontational when we were just trying to voice our side of the story. The manager also accused us of being high and drunk. We were a group of 14 adults ages 25 and up. They refused to give us our money back and we are waiting to hear back from head office.
Brought my 6 year old daughter and had a fantastic day! Was worried that I'd be hearing "I'm bored" the whole day but instead I found that she was extremely fascinated with everything we experienced at Black Creek Pioneer Village and all she talks about is wanting to go back again!! I can't wait to go back :)
I went yesterday with my two daughters. We are Korean. So it was interesting and fun. Specially, the girl who was wearing wool was impressed with kindness.
A lot of activities closed, seems to be short of volunteers, Covid really changed things
I visited the village with a free entry on sunday. I loved the place. I took me to the world of farmer in 19th century. Visited beer store, house, stable, old Mill, storage room, print house, metal store. Loved it. Old village vibe in city area.
Love it !!!
Excellent experience. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Nahri (sorry for the spelling) was very helpful with info about weaving and helping me do the various steps. She was also very kind and patient while I was learning. I will be back. Thanks
Amazing colonial settlement. Set in 1867. Period costumes and houses.
I had such a wonderful time there. It takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to tour the whole place. I learned so much about Canada's Victorian pioneers and seeing the staff/guides walking around dressed in Victorian clothing made the whole experience truly come alive. Thank you to all the staff there and for preserving this gem of a village! Look how cute!
One of the best landmarks of GTA area, different, worth to go and investigate, a journey to the past
Had a great time! Very informative and thoughtfully put together. Kids enjoyed the mystery they had to solve to find the village mischief maker. Employees were dressed according to the pioneer times
If you love Christmas, the old-fashioned Christmas program is a must! You get to learn a lot about the ancient traditions through the staff’ skilled storytelling and acting. I was specially amazed by the “Trim the tree” presentation delivered by Ansley Newline. It was super entertaining as both kids and adults got to decorate a tree while we were listening to the origin of things that we do in our houses for Christmas. Being able to taste a Christmas pudding and to sing along our favourite Christmas carols played on the piano in the cosy parlour of Doctor’s House made the experience unique and special. And don’t miss out the Apple Cider; it is so fresh and delicious! The experience would have been 5 stars if they would not run out of roasted chestnuts at 2 pm. All in all it was a totally worthy experience.
Took my son here before the lockdown, he really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend, especially due to there being a large number of old homes. Not just a couple. Able to envelope yourself in the environment
Amazing place for all ages. Space to play, discover and understand the old way of life. Thanks to the whole team.
Excellent scenic landmark to visit if you’re from Toronto / visit great Toronto. Make sure to arrive early to get a good parking spot, and stay away during the hot summer. Also accessible by public transit (there a Pioneer Village station).
I went here with my husband and it was full of history. We also went on a quiet day and the staff were very friendly and gave us a lot of history about the property and living back in the day.
This place finally reopened early August after the lockdown in March and we were able to use our tickets that had been cancelled. The gift shop/cafe was closed but the pavilion was open to refill water bottles. The sheep were the main attraction. #covid19
Amazing experience. A friend visiting Toronto went and raved so I finally checked it out and she was right. They have gone out of their way to help you really taste what life was like in pioneer times. Two hours not nearly enough. Planning to go for a whole day and really soak it all in. So much to experience!
Love the farmer market, good prices, great veg
Creeky, black and Olde. Awesome
This is an interesting place for kids and adults alike! They offer visitors a chance to experience what life was like in the days of the early settlers. Black Creek is a “working village” with everything from discovery stations to meeting spaces to horse drawn carriage rides and farmyard animals friends. With lots to explore this place is well worth a trip with the kids or on a date. The gift shop has many interesting items made from local Canadian artists/companies. Parking is $7/car/day and admission can add up ($15/adult and $11/child ages 5 and up). Consider checking it out during the Doors Open Toronto event in May when admission is free for all.
My fiance and I had our wedding ceremony here and it was truly a beautiful place to be married (Fisherville chapel). All of our guests had a great time and were able to enjoy the venue after the ceremony had finished. The staff were very helpful and experienced when it came to hosting wedding ceremonies. Thanks so much!
Absolutely fantastic!!! Looking forward to next year!
Well worth a visit.
Wonderful place to go. So much to look at. Many wonderful stores, old houses, barns & beautiful garden. Well worth the time.
