(Translated) Historic site of Quebec. Prison has a sad reputation from 1835 to 1912. Following the Patriots' rebellion of 1837/1838 between the English military occupier of 33,000 and the civilian population of around 4,000 Martial law was declared. Louis-Joseph Papineau the leader of the patriots had to flee to the United States. Hundreds of patriots were arrested, imprisoned or deported to Australia. Others were hanged in this jail in Montreal. A place of memory of the history of Quebec to keep to honor these dead. (Original) Site historique du Québec. D'autres furent pendus dans cette prison du pied courant à Montréal. Un lieu de mémoire de l'histoire du Québec a conserver pour honorer ces morts.

The young woman who showed us around and got to know a bit of our history in the days of Louis-Joseph Papineau and the Patriots had a perfect command of its history and was able to answer all our questions. She was able to make it very interesting. I would have liked to visit the building a little more, but since most of it has been taken over by the SAQ, everything must be hidden behind layers of Gyps. I recommend this cultural tour to everyone. (Original) Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre visite. La jeune femme qui nous a fait visiter et connaître un brin de notre histoire du temps de Louis-Joseph Papineau et des patriots maîtrisait parfaitement son histoire et a su répondre à toutes nos questions. Elle a su render ça très intéressant. J'aurais aimé visiter un peu plus la bâtisse mais comme la plus grande partie a été reprise par la SAQ, tout doit être cache derrière des couches de Gyps. Je recommande cette visite culturelle à tous.

Though the museum itself was little more than large panels with pictures and text, it was a very interesting introduction to some of Quebec's tumultuous history regarding the Patriotes in Lower Canada. The panels were also all in French but an English translated booklet was provided to us for the duration of the exhibit.

I've enjoyed every time I spend at Pied du Courant. Super chill and layback atmosphere that represent well how Montrealais are! Always good venues and music. I enjoy this place when a visit to it.

This museum is very misleading and an overall DISAPPOINTMENT. *everything was in French *no jail cells to see (have been deconstructed) *only two rooms of museum to see

As I visited the tunnels and undergrounds of the prison, I remembered the people who toiled in the hope that we would not be assimilated. It is undisputed that this site should be kept! Everything was in French and you have to carry around a binder with you for the English translation. No jail cells to see either, the museum is basically 2 rooms in the basement.
