Really interesting and worth visiting this museum. So much information to learn about the history and immerse in the province's past. Loved all the different types of ships and things on display. Usually closed on Mondays I think (or it was when we visited).

RUSSELL HENNINGER SR

Excellent museum for of "Salts" who served on the open sea. Staff real friendly and knowledgeable, top kotch with any questions. The main attraction is "Merlin" the parrot, will say various phases and words. Plenty to see here with stuff dating back to early 1800's

Ryan Milone

Tons of interesting information about the Titanic, the Halifax Explosion, and the World Wars. They also have a parrot there who drew quite a bit of attention, especially with kids.

Alaina Hawes

Free admission until Aug 31st, super fun enjoyable place to visit.

Rajesh Sahadeo

Awesome place, fascinating displays of specific maritime history with concise but fulsome descriptions.... Well laid out and flowing... Need a full day to take it all in... Only drawback is 4pm closing time in the summer... Uhhh why?

It's a great place for you if you love ships. This museum has dozens of models for all the famous ships in history. You can spend hours exploring the minute details on these models. The intricate details this museum has provided about these famous ships and artifacts from the history around them, is spectacular. A must visit. Don't miss it.

Great museum with a lot of great exhibits of local and NS marine history. A must see! The Halifax Explosion exhibits are quite extensive and I have always found that tragic event quite moving. You need 2-3 hours to take in all the museum exhibits. Might not be too exciting for young children. My only thought for improvement would be better lighting in some areas and replace the faded information at some of the exhibits.

This is one of the well-known tourist spot of Halifax, Nova Scotia and recommend for the people who love the ocean and interested on maritime history. You will find the history of modern maritime passenger shipping lines, mostly related to the Atlantic and will also find the replica of several famous ships those sailed on Atlantic. One the most attraction of this museum is the Titanic corner. You will find several objects of Titanic those were collected after the disaster. You can also enjoy the beauty of Atlantic and the Bedford basin from balcony of this museum. This is a must visit place of Halifax.

Great museum with lots of maritime naval history including the Halifax explosion, Titanic, many different shipwrecks, and naval history. I would allow 2-3 hours minimum for a visit to thoroughly see everything in the museum. We visited for 1.5 hours and were rushing to see everything. The cost of the visit was around $5 in off season and is around $10 in peak season and is WELL worth it. I would have paid even more and it would have been a fair price but it's nice to see something so reasonably priced.

It was a really informative, interesting, and fun experience. My wife, sister-in-law, and I went and not only is it very affordable, it's very well maintained and you can tell they've taken pride in the craftsmanship and detail of all of the exhibits. I would've probably have given this 5 stars had we have been able to see the "Titanic Documentary" and access another couple of wings of the museum (which I believe were closed due to Covid and/or renovations). Either way, a really great museum. ????????????

Our family had a lot of fun at this museum! If you have any interest in the ocean, boats or sailing, you have to check it out! The Titanic exhibit was the most memorable. We also enjoyed learning about the tragic Halifax explosion.

Maliha Qureshi

Incredible. The displays and curation were so well thought out, and the staff was lovely (especially Merlin the parrot! I spent so long playing peek-a-boo with him). We were so impressed by the overall deliberation and super cool insights at this museum.

You must visit this place!!! The entire museum is worth the visit but the Titanic exhibition is precious!!! Pictures of the rooms and their menus!! Everything is so interesting.

Informative and entertaining. A worthwhile way to spend a couple hours learning about the area's rich history.

A great spot to learn about the history of the shipping port. Learnt a lot without it being long and boring! Great exhibits! I would highly recommend if you have a few hours to wander

General Dexter

Nice museum, lots of shipping and boat information of course, but also lots of Titanic items and informative to many!

J Beechu

I absolutely LOVE this place-learned so much about the shipping history of the City but also about the fact that it was a major immigration port for years ! So many new Canadians came through Halifax at one time on the ships. Honestly I’m going back someday and spend a lot more time.

Steve Carter

I was drawn in by a collection of wooden daysailers. I stayed for 2 hours as I learned about the maritime history of Halifax. This was time well spent.

Himanshu Maheshwari

This museum contains the artifacts of the Titanic ship and the blast of 2 ships. There was a parrot name Marlin which is famous to repeat your words. On Canada day the entry of museum is free.

Junior Blacksmith

Fantastic place , excellent displays, very informative walk-through. A must see for the Halifax waterfront and its history . Added photos of the menus from the Titanic.

Steven Lascombe

Thanks so much to the city of Halifax for making the entrance free during the summer of 2021. It is a beautiful museum.

Katie Enman

As a local, I'd never stepped foot in here until recently but was so impressed with what they had to offer. Lots to see and read and if you're at all nautically inclined, this is a great afternoon activity for the whole family.

Fiona Bratvold

Lots of information on Halifax's history. They had a section about the Titanic, ships crashing into Sable Island & people giving info on incryption on the German uboats.

Rick Cantwell

First visit to this beautiful city, walking along the waterfront and seeing this unforgettable museum. The museum tells the story of the first time to Canada to today. Unforgettable artifacts from the sunken Titanic to models of modern ships and any type of water vessel that we can imagine. A truly must visit and will be going back again because it was such an amazing experience.

The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I’m traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. The $222.50 attractions package includes access to the Whale Watching Boat Tour, Thousand Island Boat Tour, Hopewell Rocks, Maritime Museum, etc., of which this attraction is one of the experiences. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is the current stop. Lots of history to read as you walk through this venue. Steeped in facts, assumptions, witness accounts and artifacts from centuries back, it’s a worthwhile experience. Historical Canada ????????

Stacy Sigler

Fascinating exhibits and displays, a must do in Halifax if you are a history buff!!

jason olsvik

Can't wait to go back when we have lots of time to explore

Curtis Yu

Exhibits were awesome and you could really learn a lot about life at sea and the ship business. Halifax Explosion exhibit was an easy highlight. 4-stars instead of 5-stars though, because the museum is not well-laid out, which makes the visit slightly stressful if you’re trying to see all of it in a streamlined fashion and are tight on time.

Marcelo Gontijo

I just have to start by saying I was definitely NOT ready for the awesomeness I found in this museum. My group and I were discussing whether one of our days in Halifax should be spent here or at an art museum, and the consensus was that this would be a more unique experience. Spot on, it was - you can learn a lot of interesting things about the settlement and the way of life in the Maritimes by visiting this museum.

Ricardo F

Really nice museum to spend the day, lots of stuff to see and to learn. It'll be nice to be prepared to be here whole day (you can leave and return if you show the receipt). Lots of faithful replicas of famous ships. Information about tragedies. We went when there were a Titanic exhibition and it was great, lots of objects from the wreckage and pictures to relate.

Arthur Soporan

This museum is a great activity to sneak in any day. Whether you spend 20 minutes or 2 hours, you'll find something interesting to see and learn. They have a section on small craft, on steam power, the Titanic, the St. Louis, the Halifax explosion of 1917 - and all of these have context expertly woven into them to give you a broader and deeper understanding of what you're seeing. The exhibits also tackle all portions of Halifax's historical populations, from the Mi'kmaq to the Acadiens to the British to the African descendants and more, and there are plenty of personal objects and testimonies to bring all their experiences to life. There's real small craft, models of bigger ships, and also a huge torpedo and lighthouse lens on the ground floor! The bathrooms are also clean and open to the public, so if you're out adventuring downtown and need to go, you can quickly pop in and continue on

Graham MacCara

Positives are the parrot, real ships, replica ships, and the waterfront lookout. If it's not busy, you can spend alot of time in here learning some boat history.

Teo Norwood

Very kind staff, extremely detailed models, and we'll kept artifacts! Lovely exhibits!

Colleen Norris

Free entry for August! I loved the Titanic artifacts.

Raghav Bhardwaj

Visit to this museum was absolutely worth considering the fact that it provides a lot of first hand information about Titanic. I’m not a big fan of museums, but this one was an exception. I had an amazing time learning so many things about Titanic and other Atlantic related facts.

J C

Great museum! Lots of boats to look at and learn about. I was mostly interested in the titanic exhibit. I wish there was slightly more to it, but I understand there’s only so much space. Still worth seeing and the museum is a great price!

thehalligantool !

Fun self guided museum, with lots to see. It's free through till the end of Aug 2021. I found the Halifax explosion exhibit the most informative/interesting. An hour is plenty with kids, but you could spend more time reading each exhibit if you were so inclined. Lots of full scale exhibits and smaller models to entertain/entice all.

Jeff J

I took my son there for data on a project for the Halifax Explosion. The staff was amazingly helpful and we got lots of pictures! Would go back again just to check out all the cool model ships!

Brice Sang

Really nice museum on the waterfront of Halifax. Titanic section was a bonus. Had no idea that some of the survivors and the bodies that were recovered from the Titanic were brought to Nova Scotia. I particularly liked the store front and the warehouse of the old maritime store run by Mr. Robertson. "Lana," the employee assigned to this section was kind enough to give me a verbal history on the store as well as the area to include the story of the, "Blue Nose" schooner, a story I had never heard before and really helped to enrich my knowledge of the area. This museum is a must stop in my opinion and the staff are wonderful.

Tray Gober

A highlight of our day. A very well organized and thoughtful presentation of artifacts. I would definitely recommend for anyone at all interested in cruises and/or the Titanic. I learned a lot. The entry fee was extremely reasonable. The staff were very helpful, including on tips of other places to visit in Halifax.

Shan Sayed

The museum is a cool place with observation deck to the harbor. There many exhibits including the titanic. Very interesting history of the ships made in Novascotia/Canada. Be sure to drop by the model making room with in. The staff there is very knowledgeable and can answer any of your questions regarding the history or the designs and also how the ship in a bottle is actually made.

-Alison Green

For $5 this was a total gem. So much history and a whole section on the titanic and the Halifax explosion. If you have an interest in boats there are lots of full size and models. The Titanic exhibit has quite a few items salvaged while recovering bodies. Very sad . Also recommend going to Fairview park cemetery where the recovered bodies were buried.

Chris Patterson

This is an amazing place. It is a must go place if you are in Halifax. The Titanic exhibit is wonderful and haunting at the same time! Also the exhibit on the explosion in Halifax harbor is amazing. I highly recommend it!

De Belder Alex

One of the best museums that I have ever been to. So much to see and so much information to learn the projected animations are fun and well done. Not everything is enclosed in glass which make taking photos so much easier. It was an overall amazing experience not to be forgotten.

Kristina Srbljanin

Great price and great exhibits. Loved the Titanic part even though it was sad to read about. Learned some new facts. Also enjoyed reading and learning about the Halifax explosion. Definitely recommend going if you are in that area. Merlin the parrot is also a great addition.

Massimo Giacca

Nice museum! We found the first floor a bit boring (except for the story of the St Louis which was new to us).. the top floor is more interesting with the Titanic and those incredible models!

Dimitrios Papapanou

Super fun museum didn't have to pay to get in. Super interesting and great overall. Definitely should visit

Amber Hafeez

A great Tuesday afternoon activity, the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, the observation deck gives you a great view of the water

Sam deZ

A nice informative Museum with ship related stories connected to Halifax. Learnt alot as I was not born Canadian. Different sections had different information. Was greeted by Merlin the parrot at the entrance. I don't understand why people call it the Titanic Museum as that section is really small. It was interesting seeing the ticket prices and food menu for different classes though.
