I loved seeing this! It was incredibly interesting to see. You don't realize how massive this ship is from a distance. but walking up to it- it's amazing. I would recommend seeing it if you find history or ships interesting in the slightest.

Brian Hathaway

Great educational and entertainment value. It was a time warp to another era.

RL Gent

This steamship museum is closed for the season. Unfortunately, this closing is not posted to Google maps or the website. It reopens May of 2019.

The SS William G. Mather is a unique experience located north of the Great Lakes Science Center. The science center runs the ship, which is open during spring and summer. You can purchase a joint ticket for both the science center and ship, or just board at the forward gangway and purchase a ticket at the box office located inside the cargo hold. Self guided tours will take you throughout the ship, including seeing where William G. Mather's personal quarters were located on the Cleveland Cliff's flagship. From the cargo hold to the pilot house to the engine room, and more; take a tour to explore the history of one of North Coast Harbors iconic attractions!

The Steamship William G. Mather is a retired Great Lakes bulk freighter now restored as a museum ship in Cleveland, Ohio, one of four in the Great Lakes region. She transported cargo such as ore, coal, stone, and grain to ports throughout the Great Lakes, and was nicknamed "The Ship That Built Cleveland" because Cleveland's steel mills were a frequent destination. - Wikipedia

Boats are boats, but a 600 foot freighter that you can tour on? wow! We really enjoyed the walking and looking around. Grand son got to turn the wheel (in front and in the rear), we learned so much about freight liners and life aboard. A recommended visit - and seek out the Chief engineers quarters and his secret passage down the engine room (can't walk it, but ask about it).

Just a massive freighter to explore, right next door to the beautiful East 9th Street pier. Check it out if you're in town!

Kaylee Moreno

Awesome self guided tour. Cool to get into many spaces and learn the history

Michael Johnson

Great stop in Cleveland to explore a retired steamship! It was less than $10 per adult and is a self paced tour. Do note though that climbing and descending stairs is required. No strollers or wheelchairs will work here. Was a very fascinating look into the past for cargo shipping on the great lakes!

Rishab Gaba

Loved touring it. Self guided. Will take 40-60 minutes. Must visit. Machinery is breathtaking.

See an old lake freighter! Most of the ship is open for viewing, and restorations continue.

hwileyiii

Located on the Waterfront and with the Science Center, this is worth a visit if you're in Cleveland. The Science Center is an interesting place, however not as well set up as the Carnegie System in Pittsburgh. The steamship gives you a look back into history as how ore, coal, and coke were moved through the lakes to the great US Steel producers. It also gives you a sense of the dangers these men faced navigating the Great Lakes and the terrible storms and hazards they faced
