Reviews of Kent State University May 4 Visitors Center (Museum)

300 Midway Dr, Kent, OH 44243

Average Rating:

DESCRIPTION

We have the reviews of real people who used the products of Kent State University May 4 Visitors Center (Museum) in Chatham-Kent territory (Canada).

Currently this firm receives a score of 4.8 over 5 and that rating was based on 117 reviews.

You may have noticed that the average of ratings that it reaches is nearly the top, and it's based on a large number of feddbacks, so we may conclude that the evaluation is very credible. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the service, it works.

As you know, we don't usually bother to give evaluations when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...

This Museum corresponds to the category of History museum.

This place really captures the period of time in the United States, and makes you get a feel for what was going on leading up to the May 4th events. The draft number board really hit home to me, 19th! I couldn't imagine how angry I would've been, though, as a female it would be unlikely for me to go. The displays were very interesting, and the short film helped bring everything together. Very moving.

The museum we wanted was closed... But walking around, my husband had gone to Kent State when this incident happened so I got a personal viewing of the campus... So awesome... He answered all my questions.... The sites where persons got shot are all marked off... So glad Kent State has put memorial markers where the people who got shot are guarded by markers ... Thank you Kent State...

If you think you know what happened at Kent State, this place will probably change your mind. The 8 minute video, alone, is worth the visit, and the quality and production values of all elements of the museum are exceptional. The controversy of that day is also present but the information given clearly sticks to the facts, leaving judgement to the viewer. If you take the time to carefully read and understand, plan on about an hour in the museum, plus another 30 minutes looking at the outside spaces where the events happened. A powerful place.

I remember that day very well. The memorial us disquieting. The museum is well laid out, very informative about events leadung up to the massacre. The film is tevealing and very moving. There is a memorial walk layed out on the commons. I recommend that everyone visit this place to learn about how everything went so wrong for the 4 students gunnedvdown in their prime as well as those injured, one who is in a wheelchair for life.

I haven't been inside. I think it's good that KSU have left things basically untouched in this area, but have added some informational signage and a nice My 4th memorial.

(Translated) Today, during the protests against the Vietnam War that happened in 1970, four students died and many of them got married. I think I saw the crime scenes of the US history after three times.

Kent State is a terrific school and campus. They are trying very hard to make the campus and learning experience a 100% class act. Go Flashes.

I was a senior in high school when the May 4th shootings occurred. The exhibits and waking tour really brought back memories of the horror and shock I felt at that time. I think it is very important at a time when the first amendment is being attacked from the White House, that we remember what can happen when those in power do not like what they hear.

Everything about this place evokes the era before, during, and after the shootings in 1970. The museum, located in Taylor hall, uses sound, video, images, and recorded narratives to track the events leading up to May 4 and the cultural significance of this tragic, traumatic, and unnecessary event. The gallery next door contains exhibits dedicated to the victims that include personal items and recollections by loved ones. The outdoor site is marked by a walking tour and includes the memorial, state and national markers, and much of the original landscape. It is a moving, educational, and inspiring place that should be shared with those who do not recall the turbulent Vietnam era.

The May 4th Visitors Center at Kent State is not to be missed. The detailed, well-done exhibit is heartbreaking, but needs to be seen. Very educational and thought provoking.

Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend it to everyone. If you are a student at the university or a local it is an absolute must.

Extremely well done, and easy to find. The history of this event is very well persevere and the University really does a good job telling it's past. Each year this land mark has an event to Mark the 4th, it's another way to lean about this event.

The park around the building is full of black squirrels. It was fun to hang out with them. Right in the parking lot you can see the exact spots where the 4 students fell and you can also see the bullet hole in the metal sculpture. It's still there 50 years later and there are still plenty of reasons for protesting

Julie

Really learned a lot from this museum. It covers the cultural and political climate of the day. Even though it’s sad, it’s enlightening how this could have happened in the US.
