The Fairport Marine Museum is a nice small museum next to the Fairport Lighthouse. Adult admission was $5.00 which included the museum and climbing to the top of the lighthouse. The museum has a collection of photos, nautical items, models, and ship equipment. It also has the original lighthouse lens which is really interesting to see up close. Part of the pilothouse of an old freighter (The Frontenac) is attached to the side of the building, so you can step up to the captain's wheel and get a feel for what it might be to look out from the wheelhouse of a ship. The inside of the lighthouse has a beautiful wrought iron spiral staircase. It is not for folks with mobility issues. Also, if you are afraid of heights, the staircase if a bit daunting since you can see upward and downward through the beautiful ornate staircase. When you get near the top you will have to duck your head and maneuver through an opening to get to the top. A door then leads you out onto the walkway around the top of the lighthouse where you can enjoy views of Lake Erie, the Grand River, and Fairport.

Cool lighthouse with great view

Lighthouse is neat to walk up, but I think this should be free. Not much besides the lighthouse. Plus, it is a far drive from Cleveland.

This was a fun tour on a rainy afternoon. We had a private tour and was told many interesting facts about the items in the museum. I didn't get to hear about the "ghost cat" but I did get to see the poor little thing. A very fun tour. Includes a walk up the lighthouse's vintage staircase. Thanks!!

Quaint little town with a lighthouse. For a nominal fee you can go through the museum see the GHOST CAT and climb to the top of the lighthouse. Check hours of operation before going we were lucky the museum was open for a special event today.

It was closed for the season So we went down the hill to the small beach. We had a wonderful time there. Only a few people around so it was quiet and it has a great view of a lighthouse on the water.

A world class museum. Small but full of interesting things. Climbing the tower was great, such a great view of the harbor. The pilot house of the freighter was so neat.

It was closed when I got out there... Likely due to Corona. However, it's a really nice view, in a pleasant walk all around that area, and in the park down the hill.

I didn't go into the lighthouse or the museum because I have my pups with me. This exterior of lighthouse and museum reminds me of a combination of a boat, house, and lighthouse. There are signs displayed with info on the lighthouse and museum. Behind it, there is a large field where events are held at. I saw a picture of the American Flag on the grass, and that was the main reason why I drove out from Cleveland (vacationing in Cleveland) to see. Unfortunately, when I arrived, it was not there. Very disappointed. This lighthouse might be haunted. it seems like many are. I really enjoyed the view of Lake Erie from the lighthouse.

This museum is wonderful, small but full of cool things. The building and the grounds were immaculate. The stairs up to the top of the light house were a lot easier than we anticipated, which was a huge relief since we took our young son. The 2 people working, Chip and Mary Ellis, were absolutely wonderful. They were friendly and answered all of our questions and went above and beyond with our year old son. This is definitely a "must see" when you're in the area.

Beautiful. The grounds are amazing, very well kept. The museum was closed on a Tuesday. There was no explanation on the name that is on what appears to be a part of an old tug boat. Be sure to look across the water at the lighthouse on the breakwater.

Matthew DiDonato

People should get more involved, trying to keep our lighthouse running, making repairs. You can also become a member and get involved

Drone Ohio

Climbing the lighthouse's spiraling metal staircase, you can imagine the thousands of times people walked there before, working to save the lives of sailors and passengers traveling the lake. Interesting collection of local artifacts; I would have liked to see more explanatory plaques. Great views and friendly staff.

The dead cat display has to go. There are no ghosts. It was simply a cat who got caught in the ventilation system. Cats snuggle up inside car engines too in the winter and then die. Nothing more. Gross. It will help ruin your appetite for going to the creamery across the street.

This is very neat but it is worn out. A year ago it was only $5 to go up. Now it is $7. Why? I’m not a cheap person, but that is unreasonable.

The museum was founded in 1945 by the Fairport Harbour Historical Society, which preserves the historic tradition of Fairport Harbour and the Great Lakes area. The original lighthouse was completed in 1825. The tower stood thirty feet high, capped with an octagonal-shaped iron lantern. The museum houses a number of artefacts relating to life on the Great Lakes and other maritime exhibits.
