This museum is amazing and sobering at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the blacks that escaped to Canada from slavery in the US and how they acclimated to life there. It's very small and funded mostly by donations but still a must visit if in the Ontario area.

Nancy Betts

The tour guide was very informative.

Historical place. Good to know about fugitives.

Chandler Lauzon

A worthwhile visit to learn about a too often forgotten part of our Canadian history. I really enjoyed the local connection of the stories featured. We have good friends with personal connections to the region, which made the visit more meaningful.

Lots of great things to see.

Well I had a group of my high school students there and we learned how the slaves came across through the under ground railway. They showed a house that people lived in back then and at the end they had a questionnaire where you'd have to go around and look for the answers within the museum.

An important piece of history describing the lives of escaped United States slaves who escaped through the Underground Railroad after they found freedom in Canada. One of several locations of historical interest relating to Canadian Underground Railroad settlers in Southwestern Ontario. Well worth the visit.

Pamela Shepherd

It a place of history, everyone should experience

Tanzim Hossain

Good guide and a decent amount of things to look at at the museum, but needs more than just one employee.

Excellent, interesting, informative tour that lasted about 45 minutes, perfect length. A fair and correct description of the life experienced by Black Americans in Canada. Refreshing.Learned a lot. A tour every Canadian should take to learn about an interesting, often missed, chapter in our history. Cheers to this community for making this museum happen! Good Covid safety in place. Book your tour.

I visited the Museum 25 years ago. It is wonderful to see the beautiful preservation of a most historically significant sight and learn the history of a proud people and there struggle to achieve and prosper despite the forces against them. It filled me with pride and hope. It is a historical site that is informative and it is not ment for intertainment. I had an attitude of reverence in its presence. I'm grateful for the Museum.

My family and I visited this museum today and WOW! We were greeted by the biggest smiles, the most bubbly personalities, and the kindest tour guides, Lorena and Sky. From start to finish, this tour was EVERYTHING! Lorene was very knowledgeable and answered every question asked. This is by far, one of the most informative and enjoyable tours that I have ever taken. Thank you for the wealth of information.

Organized a group of friends and family to go to Amherstburg to visit some of the museums and historical sites with this being one of our planned stops. We all showed up during the hours posted online as well as on the sign posted in the window and the doors were locked and only one vehicle in the lot. Bit disappointing to show up during open hours for it to be closed. We showed up around 3:30pm on Sunday May 20th, 2018. There was a closed sign posted in the door and doors were locked. We checked and double checked hours before coming and also rechecked the hours online from the parking lot when the doors were locked.

This museum is a must-see. Not just for history buffs. We learned some surprisingly interesting things there.

When you have time please go to this Museum it's an annual event I attend annually. The Affair was wonderful, educational eye opener of our history and roots.

Julia Berest

It’s ridiculously overpriced for what it has to show. Kids under 12 should be free. They don’t have the patience to read information plaques and there are very few artefacts to see. We paid almost 28$ for the family of four, total rip off. I am a huge fan of museums and while I did learn something, overall it was a very disappointing experience because the website makes you think the museum is much more interesting than it actually is. After visiting the Museum of African American History in Detroit it is difficult to give this museum more than 1-2 stars.
