Loved it!

By far the best gopher museum I've ever attended.

Very cute. One of a kind.

Very unique ????????????

Fun place

verry unique place to visit verry nice lady running it

Kind of a crazy project but very popular, with visitors from around the world over the 25 years of the display being in the old school house. The many dioramas are very well done with a lot of humour!

Amazing! A great and fun stop that doesnt take too much time or money. People who run it are so friendly and I cant wait to go back!

Unique and interesting. Quite the hobby.

A brilliant bit of satire in a prairie town setting. Definitely worth the time to stop and look around.

Small but mighty, this place has gophers in every situation possible! A great sense of humour and so adorable.

One of a kind experience :)

Didn't know what to expect but was thoroughly amused. Loved it!

Quaint little spot. A nice drive.

My grandma works there And I go every summer to spend time with family.people have come from all over the world just to see this little place

Absolutely amazeballs! Stop in Torrington just for that if you can!

(Translated) Awsom (Original) Awsom

The wall of hate mail is easily the most entertaining thing I've seen in a museum

Yup... It's a "museum" with stuffed gophers in costumes. how could it not get 5 stars?

Hilarious, I love it.

Unique

Another place I never heard of but glad I found out about it. 2 dollars cash gets you in.

Great imagination with the gopher diaramas. I realize these were once live animals and there are issues around that but this is so unusual and quaint. It started as a joke ( check the history) and it is attracting visitors from all over the world. There is nothing else quite like this.

What a quirky , off beat little treat. Had a great time.

It's a gas

A fun and inviting cozy little museum, with loads of quirks for your admission! Friendly staff, it's worth the drive.

Unique one of a kind attraction. The staff very nice.

This truly bizarre museum is a great reason to take the family in a little Alberta road trip. It is a small building with many mini diaramas of gophers being funny little Canadians. It is a little bit creepy, more so than your average taxidermy displays. Maybe you like gophers more than I do though? We shot part of an episode of Heartland season 10 in the museum, so that’s why I first heard of it. Taking the family this summer on our way back from the Tyrell museum for sure!

Weird but awesome!

Very cute stop. Doesn't take long and resulted in many giggles.

Go to this museum, it's wonderful.

Very cute and well maintained, people were super friendly

Cute little place. The displays were fun and the kids thought they were neat. Quick trip as the space is small but a great pit stop of your heading through central Alberta!

Such a unique experience. If you’re ever driving between Calgary and Edmonton, I would recommend stopping by. The volunteers are super informative!

5 stars for sure! Quirky and weird in the cutest way! The lady up front is so pleasant and happy to share, all the locally made crafts and souvenirs in the gift shop are adorable.

Worth the drive!

Such a creative idea to make use of resources in this tiny community. We had a lovely time. Should be better advertised in schools and use it as a get away adventures for families. Creativity and humour are present at this unique museum. A bit of history and good community attitude too!

Highly recommend!! Worth the drive. This place has been on my bucket list for years and did not disappoint in the slightest.

It's a thing to see, that's for sure.

Very well done! This place is a hoot. And very small town authentic.

Amazing place for a small slice of Canadiana. Absolutely worth the drive and the 2$ fee. I bought a pair of handknitted slippers there for 5$! Be sure to read the letters sent in by people all over the world either supporting or disparaging the idea of the museum.

Cheap entertainment. Very cute.

This is worth the visit when passing through. The person at the front was super friendly, and the diagramas were creative and entertaining. My kids loved them also! It's also vary affordable. I suggested a Star Trek Diarama.

Very unique and interesting, definitely a must see

Wonderful day trip in South Central Alberta. Clean little town, but limited services. Be sure to find out about the 'Stone House ' located a few minutes south of town; it is a very cool piece of Alberta history.

Everyone has to go at least once in their life.

Amazing. It was an hour an a half to get there and completely worth it. It's small but I could have stayed for hours. New favourite attraction in Alberta hands down!

Great place

In a tiny town off the beaten track, it's quite the sight to see gophers hunting ducks, getting married, gardening and cutting hair. The gopher hole museum is a community center of pride that is contributed to by many people. The volunteers are proud and happy to answer any questions. For a wacky and fun afternoon, this made for a great little road trip! Thank you!

Hilarious, kitschy, small town museum. The woman in charge was very kind and gave us a brief tour of the building. The dioramas are cute, especially how each of them depicts a different aspect of life in Torrington. One of our favorite parts was the wearable gopher head.

This is a cute little museum that consists of dioramas of stuffed gophers doing various activities like fishing, playing hockey, going to church, etc. Silly but fun. We spent about 10 mins there. Costs $2 cash. Any age will enjoy this.

Best small museum featuring taxidermied gophers in the entire known universe. The lovely volunteers make it extra special for visitors. Worth the drive to lovely Torrington many times over. You must go.

Love this Alberta gem! I will be back!

It was so cute and funny I woud recomended it for familes! Really great.

So silly! So much fun!

Still only $2 to get in. A nice little tourist place.

Very nice place to visit. The kids absolutely loved all the displays. Very cute.

Neat place but only open from June 1st to September 30th

So much fun. Worth a drive

It was really interesting.

best detour I've ever taken!

Cute and friendly.

One of the most holesome places in Alberta

A definite 'must-see" place. It's only a twoonie to get in. We make this a regular stop on our $5 tour when we have visitors from out of town.

We loved our visit. Well done.

Fun little stop! Worth the toonie.

Love this museum! Kids minds were totally blown. So good to see how gophers really live underground. This is a must see.

Had a great time here. Well worth the pit stop on our way to Edmonton!

A cute little museum (:

Pretty cool little place. Nice way to spend the afternoon doing something different.

Very cute place! The exhibits were funny. A really one of a kind sort of place.

nice! ^_^

The cutest museum I've ever seen. It's not big but it packs a lot of comical dioramas into a small space. Definitely good for kids of all ages, but also fun for adults. Very affordable.

Really cool museum and staff was awesome. Very informative and accommodating. Be aware that this museum runs on donations, so please consider donating a decent amount so that this hotel can continue being an Alberta icon.

It's a charming little place with 40+ displays that are amazingly well done! Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you didn't turn away at hearing "stuffed gophers", you'll probably enjoy the place. It's a cash only, entry by donation place with a small gift shop featuring locally made products. The others have posted enough photos. If you feel like this place isn't enough to warrant the drive, there's Kirk's Alpaca Farm, a pie shop (amazing peanut butter and banana cream pies), and a coffee shop in Linden that'll make up for a fun day trip!

Interesting little place and a line up to get in!

I'm not usually into dioramas, but if that's your thing, you will absolutely adore this museum. Very well done and excellent attention to detail, though a little bizarre for outsiders like me. Also close to 'Pizza n' more, eh?' if you want to grab a pizza before or after.

Such a unique experience

Installed metal on the roof of the Gopher hole museum

Fun place in a very small town..Super Nice!

Awesome, quirky little museum with funny scenes involving taxidermied gophers. Definitely worth a visit if you're driving around the area. Only adds about an hour or so to driving between Edmonton and Calgary. The lady working the desk, Mary, was very kind and encouraged us to vote for our favorite exhibit. Moonlight Romance was definitely my fav

Very nice to visit

Cutest little museum ever!! I’ve been meaning to come here for a while and was finally able to. The lady working here was also super nice. This place is 100% worth visiting!

Best little museum! Absolutely adorable stuffed gophers, friendly staff and cool location. I cannot reccomend this gopher museum enough. If you are ever passing through Torrington you won't regret stopping by.

So worth the drive

Didn't actually know it was only roadkill. Gophers are staged to explore town history

Super cute

Very cool, worth the drive.

Definitely a hidden gem of Alberta. The people who run it are so friendly and welcoming. It's a tiny museum but worth it. We couldn't stop laughing at the different scenes. I loved the map of who has visited the museum from around the world - that is amazing!

Super interesting place!

It's a bunch of gophers in a museum basically. Kinda neat.

Small museum but super cute stuffed ground squirrels.

BEST. TOURIST. TRAP. EVER. It's exactly what you expect it to be, but 110% worth the drive. Spend some time flipping through the binder of hate mail if you want a good laugh, and make sure to talk to the staff to get some history on why this freak show exists. If I could give this place 1000 stars, I would.

Bizarre place but full of humour and wit! Very accommodating even out of season to let you in. Worth the drive off the beaten track

What a neat little place to stop at! Proof of 'If you build it, they will come'! We picked up some souvenirs in the gift shop and toured the little town. It was a fun day outing.

Awesome place to go just for fun if you’re passing through!

An amazing place!

I mean, who doesn't want to see dioramas with taxidermy gophers? The fact that this is as popular as it is makes it even more enjoyable and Otto is a lovely tour guide.

Super unique and definitely worth the trip! The staff are very knowledgeable and $2 entry is unbeatable!

Super cute place, love it!

This place is a must see. It's full of taxidermy gophers doing crazy things. Is that a gopher hunting? Yes it is. Is that a gopher in a fashion show? Yes it is. So many scenes to see!

Small, but very funny. Well worth the enormous admission fee of 2 CAD (0.50 for kids I believe). Not suitable for vegans and animal rights activists.

If you are looking for something really out of the box fun this is a must stop, there is even a small tour of the town mapping out the Gopher Character Fire Hydrants, and interesting oddball gifts too. This World Famous attraction will have you laughing out loud.

Loved the quirkiness and originality. Some are a little strange but that adds to the quirkiness and originality

Nice small attraction. Cheap and quick!

A quick, cheap fun place to visit.

One of the most unique places I have ever visited. Well worth the trip.

A strange concept indeed, but fun and worth a visit

Well done. Lots of fun.

It's extremely tiny.

The place is cute, with gophers doing all sorts of things, wearing different types of clothes. It's a good place for kids to have a look, and younger children with imaginations will enjoy it the most. If your kids like stuffed animals or barbies, they will enjoy this place.

A special, unique treasure in the middle of nowhere. We drove all the way to Torrington just to see it, at the request of a 10 year old for his birthday :-) Great dioramas! I'm glad to know that this exists. Seeing the old couple that runs the place was nice too.

Unique

Fun place off the beaten track.

So much fun! Very funny stories! I highly recommend taking the stop.

Don't expect the science behind how gophers make holes or you will be vastly disappointed like the hubby was. For a fun adventure though, it's the place to go!

Can’t imagine not having seen this fabulous, unique museum, a must see!

I am a big museum lover and this one is definitely is the funniest one.

I don't really know what I expected from this.

Wanted to go see this. Drive from Edmonton. They’re only open June 1 - sept 30. You should update your google so people don’t drive to see this in your off season :(

Fun place to take kids

A super cute place to check out. Its unreal the amount of creativity

A little room with tiny little displays stacked 2 high around the entire room. 2 people can comfortably look into each display at one time. There are little one-step stools so children can look into the displays too! Well worth the little drive and the $2.00 admission (per person) to take a look ????

So awesome! And unreal. Worth the drive. Get pies in nearby Linden.

Fantastic

So much fun! Make sure you show up with your sense of humor and you'll have a great time!!

It is so unique. I've never seen anything like it so imaginitive so fun

Very interesting

Tacky

Well worth the drive from Calgary.

Hilarious. Be sure to take pictures

Love it.. a bit morbid but neat

Second time here with a visitor. Very cute displays. The volunteer was very enthusiastic and knowledeable. Glad to suppory local tourism.

So cute. Have been meaning to visit for a long time, and it did not disappoint. We made a day of visiting Torrington, Three Hills, and Linden and had a great time. The people working at the gopher hole were so nice and up to chat about the curious exhibit. We got to meet the creator, selling gopher souvenirs on her lawn the next street over. Will treasure my gopher magnet for many years to come.

Unique and a great visit. Would love to see it expand!

"One of a kind" place that is definitely worth checking out.

This place is the most surreal but amazing little gem in Central Alberta. If you love rodents, and you love taxidermy, and you love dioramas, you need to go here. If you don't like any of those things? You still need to go here. It's a trip and worth the trip

Weird and cute. Best 15 minute detour.

A must see!

Fun, quirky little museum...and totally affordable (you can get a family in for less than a trip to Starbucks). This is a must see!!

this is a really neat museum. been around for yrs and first time there. kids would love this small out of the way treat.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The whole town seems to have a hand in contributing to this cute little museum. A must see!

Me and my daughter just loved it!

Fun little museum for a rainy day.

There's gophers and scenes to go along with them. Wont see anything like it anywhere else.

We haven't been to the gopher hole museum in 2 years, and we still talk about it often. Anytime someone is looking for something to do on a Saturday afternoon, I recommend taking a drive out to Torrington. I'd love to go back!

Funny little place

Such a random thing and place to be but it sure cheered me up after a rough few days. The lady let us in for free as we didn't have any cash and they don't accept card or have an ATM nearby. By all means, stop by and laugh at the hilarity that is a taxidermied gopher in a human situation.

One of Alberta's best Museums.

Great museum if you get a chance you must go see.

The creativity is amazing and hilarious! People from all over the world have come to this place. Well worth it!!

Very interesting place.

So funny, the dioramas are great!

Who wouldn't want to go see taxidermied rodents placed in painstakingly constructed community scenarios? From "Yard Sale" to "Wedding" and "Post Office," no detail has been spared to bring the more than three dozen dead-animal dioramas to life. Admission is by donation only, making it an affordable outing for the whole family (but don't be cheap!) and the gentleman who crafted the scenes (with the help of a backdrop artist and a taxidermist, of course) is a delight to chat with. There's also a small gift shop on site along with washrooms and parking at the back. Go! You won't regret it!

Cool

Amazing

Super cool experience!!

Nice place to take the kids.

It's small but adorable and the lady at the front desk was so helpful and sweet she made the visit even better. well worth the stop in

Fun little stop. Great creativity. Kids loved it.

Make sure to take the time to read the book with articles and letters from around the world. More than worth the $2 entrance fee if you're passing by

This was hilarious. We've been meaning to come out here for years and we weren't disappointed. I just loved the crazy sense of humour and effort it takes to run the place.

Lots of fun, worth the drive!

Great local museum. Fun for the whole family.

Good gravy, this place is one of a kind. It's exactly what it purports to be, a small museum full of taxidermied gophers posed in various settings. "Moonlight Romance" was one of my favourites. There were actually 5 other people there at the time and the woman running it was informative and kind. For only $2, you CANNOT pass this up if you're driving by. I detoured on my way back to Edmonton from Calgary and it's just something you have to see to really hey.

Very fun quirky little visit, friendly staff. Was well worth the detour off highway 2.

Quirky and interesting. Friendly lady at the desk.

So worth the drive!!

A fun diversion from the ordinary!

I was shocked to see how world famous this is! Such a cute place! Loved my time there. The lady that worked the museum was awesome!!

Cute idea. I wouldn't go out of my way but it is a nice pit stop to stretch your legs on your drive. It is free to stop and look at the displays, so why not!

Charming little museum with dioramas of gophers in iconic hometown locations.

Just have to see it for yourself....

Wonderful imagination

A good twenty minutes of charming and campy fun for whatever donation you want to provide. Definitely glad we went out of our way to visit and I hope them all the success in the world as they fundraiser for a new building.

Unique museum and worth the drive to Torrington

Been 2ce now. Love the displays. So unique and well done. Each character 'plays the part'. Staff is amazing!:) This place deserves to live on!

This is a must see for all visitors that get to this area. Not very big but so well worth it!

Gopher-it!

Super fun museum! Well worth the travel! Funny scenes and great customer service! I recommend to anyone living or going to Alberta.

Literally the best place on Earth

This is probably the most bizarre place I have visited, but oh so cute. And the experience was super fun. Something totally fun for everyone to enjoy. It was worth the 3 hr drive to get there. Just an FYI bring cash for the gift shop.No plastic accepted.

A must if in the area

Delightful, but closed from October 1st to May 30th. Hours should be edited.

Place is actually amazing

Best gopher museum I’ve ever been to.

A neat must see attraction!!

Very charming. Museum staff are personable and helpful facilitators that really demonstrate the passion in what they do. Admission is incredibly cheap, but that gave much more incentive to purchase some of their reasonably priced, very unique, high quality merchandise.

Something Different! Lovely little town to visit

Cutest museum in Alberta. Learn about the history and culture of the people of Torrington (a very small Prairie town) through these pesky little stuffed animals (don't pick a side until talking to the museum attendee, reading the museum correspondence on display, and going through the dioramas carefully). Worth the visit if done together with Tyrrel Museum in Drumheller.

A Lotta fun! You should go-fur a drive and check it out.

Really quirky and cute place. Definitely worth visiting if you have the time. It's about an hour and a half from Calgary. The building itself isn't that big; it's about the size of a cabin with two rooms. The first room is where the washrooms and souvenirs are and the second room is where the exhibit is. There is nothing educational about the museum and is intended for entertainment. Plan 15 - 30 min for the visit. The volunteers are a great resource if there are any questions about the museum, Torrington, or the gophers.

The World Famous Gopher Hole Museum is quite the way to spend a hour. This is a great family friendly activity and road trip or day trip. The facility is small but it is a non profit that runs by donation. The displays were very cute and had little details that you don't necessarily notice on first glance so going back and looking again adds. The town also has all of their fire hydrants painted like little golphers. Very cute!

Best 5$ I've ever spent in my life! This place is a must visit, even if you are going out of your way. Staff is extremely friendly and always willing to have a conversion about the day or informing of their museum and its contents.

Loved it, such a gem! I've passed the signs on highway 2 all my life, finally got the chance to go on my honeymoon!

Well worth going here. The grandchildren loved it. A must go place. Please make sure you bring cash for getting in. Also very cheap. Loved it there didn't want to leave.

I think this place is great. The stories are so connected to the local history. That said it does involve taxidermy. Plan accordingly.

Hilarious and silly, always take friends to go see this quirky and cute museum. Everyone always loves the trip. P.s. add a little more to this trip by geocaching in the area. Its lovely.

Cute, unique and very impressive. A museum you or your visitors won't soon forget. Very friendly staff.

Thank goodness for a unique attraction made with a bit of old fashioned tlc. Worth the visit

Fun little stop off the beaten path.

what a hoot!! great prairie attraction. one of the funniest places we visited. you've got to read the "fan mail" they received...you will split your side!

Cool little setup

Awesome

The lady there was really nice.the displays are cool they need more tho lol

So glad we stopped here. Very interesting and amusing. Staff was very friendly!

Receptionist was A-1. Highly recommended......

If you have ever wanted to experience a museum where they kill, stuff and display gophers, you won't find a better place than the Gopher Hole Museum. It's cheap and a great opportunity to get a look at a pastoral rural community in Alberta. Great job to the people who put this together and PETA be damned.

Worth the trip

Definitely worth stopping here either along the way or as the main destination!

A great bit of Canadiana!!! My 4th or 5th visit, I took a few 1st timers today! Many great corny sights in town and neat memorabilia!

Coolest place on the planet

Fun

Loved it!! It was so cute!❤

Came from Calgary, and it was so worth the trip. Absolutely adorable inside and a very out of the ordinary place to see. Otto is a great host, and very informative. I will definitely be returning. Thanks Otto!
