Amazing atmosphere. Great gallery
I attended a wedding at the gallery. It's an exceptional space for events. The access to the outdoors, the globe firepit, the incredible lighting created an atmosphere that's hard to beat. …
I have definitely missed the arts during the pandemic. Wonderful to see the Art Gallery open - and better still FREE during the month of August. First time here and really enjoyed the contemporary and Canadian art. Even Hamilton artists are featured. Not many people were here which made it very safe and comfortable. Of course, masks are required.
Very reasonable ticket price at 8 for student, not very big but still need half day to finish if you look closely. A nice place for relaxing on those busy school days.
The "Bus" exhibit is very cool and the gallery is kinda small but well organized, clean and many different artists, gift store is also small but good products. You can purchase paintings there also!
I liked the poetry and pictures area
Beautiful gallery. Very well laid out, the staff is also wonderful and very helpful. With March break they had fun programs for the kids going on today which was nice to see. The gift shop is extremely cute and their area for lunch is perfect, the woman who runs it is so kind and sweet and makes the best sandwiches. Very clean and has a fun vibe, I loved how they were showing a film today, very informative.
What a beautiful experience! ????There's so much to see at this place your first visit can solely be focused on the permanent exhibit which will take over an hour to go through the additional exhibits have a fee and a well worth it! You can do the additional exhibits on later visits if you want to pace yourself and enjoy each piece. The sculpture section in the permanent exhibit is so cool! Children friendly, and super clean so wear your masks! ????
AGH is a wonderful, clean and carefully curated gallery. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the art selections themselves were phenomenal.
Our local gallery is a gem. Easy to see it all within a few hours without sacrificing exhibits. Not a large gallery, but it attracts and mounts impressive exhibits as well as bigger museums and galleries might. Excellent events and programming, and frankly the gift shop is a great place for unique gifts.
The staff is very rude. From the front desk to the "guards" rolling in the corridors like helicopters trying to literally bully you. My family also felt racist vibes from them to a point we left after 25 mins because we felt uncomfortable. The artwork itself is just OK, the guide was very uninspiring so imo overall, not worth your time or money. Also remember there are lots of homeless people all around the gallery.
One of few cultural buildings worth visiting if you are in the downtown Hamilton core.
Good art to be seen I recommend going I'm giving four stars because there was only one art piece that blowed my mind but others were okay.
Excellent gallery for art works by all types of artists. Exhibits are rotated regularly. Makes for a good quiet time to enjoy real art works.
Hidden treasure and a stone throw away from Toronto.
It was so Fun to have a school field trip their. Everyone was nice and fun. I also learned a lot of cool facts
We were there for a wedding reception. Walked through the gallery before the reception. Wonderful variety of art, really enjoyed looking at all the different exhibits.
Always a great experience. The kids always love Kim's exhibits. This time there was also Poppa Wilson, an artist that decided to start creating art at the young age of 81 (great art for kids, and creative use of old house parts), Chun Hua Catherine Dong a Chinese artist that has some exquisitely designed sleeping bags(?), and some cool portraits(?).
Beautiful art exhibits! Loved the Maud Lewis and Poppa Wilson exhibits! Really well maintained and well organized! Also Kim Adams, Bruegel-Bosch bus exhibit is a must watch!
Very cool art Gallery. This two are my favorite. There is also a Volunteer tour in the Gallery which is pretty useful to learn the background of photos and artists. Worth to go!
Enjoyed my recent visit to the art gallery of Hamilton. Lots of parking near by. Gallery was very clean and calm. During my visit there was an illuminating exhibition on origami including many interactive opportunities. Will be coming back in the future. Great location and very accessible. Many places to visit near by as well. I enjoyed the sculpture garden outdoors too.
Nice, intimate gallery. Very nice interior space - clean and elegant! Nice gift shop!
Great multi-floor art exposition venue right in Hamilton's downtown core. The gallery brings together in a creative way a diversity of art themes work from artists all over the world. The lighting & big rooms create a nice environment for an enjoyable art experience.
Very much what an art gallery should be.
Great art exhibitions!
Great gallery with a variety of interesting exhibits for different age groups.
Really great small collection and very often not busy. Very easy to get to. The rooftop garden is great as well and sometimes has live music
Loved it! One of the top places to shop for unique beautiful gifts. Something for everyone. Lovely cafe, friendly staff, and the art was a great mix of contemporary, modern and classic pieces. Well worth a visit - or two!!! Check out the cafe as well. Yummy cookies!
Love the exhibits they have on and also.their permanent collection on the second floor is worth seeing a few times a year. The gallery shop is also Interesting place for gift giving and very fairly priced. The gallery also has programs for kids and an art room for them to play in.
Beautiful space. Went through with my daughter sleeping and it was so lovely. The historic collection is free to view and they are happy to let you take photos ( I believe without flash.) They have this amazing setup where the gallery walls have little booklets that identify the painting and give you all the info without you having to bend hanging over the wall.
The wait staff at this wedding venue were excellent. The ceremony space was beautifully lit with the massive windows and a lot of variety, options for portraits in the area.
Wonderful art gallery. Parking is easy and accessable either under jackson square or in the city parking both of which do charge however street parking is not out of the question if its a nice day andnyou are up for a short walk. The second …
They always introduce something new each month.
Very nice, well kept. It is a nice atmosphere and has a very rich selection of art, all made by very talented people.
A Friday night pop-up concert by Union and Kay was a fantastic adjunct to our gallery visits. They played originals and covers.
It was small but we loved it. It was also free.
A restful place
Beautiful artwork experience ????
Beautiful art gallery! Well curated. Right now they have a cool exhibition about Canadian Indie Comics. A must see
Did a wedding here and the servers were absolutely amazing! However some of the art is honestly disturbing and grotesque which was a turn off for many guests. Also the busy street deterred us from wanting to book anything here asa protest …
Really love this museum, it offers so much culture and history. The pricing is somewhat high but for good reason, which you will find out shortly after entering the facility. They have great programs for adults and children, including a child part of the museum. I suggest a membership if you plan to go more than a few times in the year as it may be more affordable.
Nice place to visit. Works of dedicated lovers of art are rare to find in this digital era. Hats off to the artists and this gallery who promotes their works.
If you're going to the AGH you have to see the bus in person ever time I see it I wish I could shrink down and walk around it
Great experience! Went there when they are on free tickets until August 31st, 2021. There are many of art donations! Security is working well when he was following us at every corner ????
Loved this place, and I was delighted to see live art after so long Covid19 restrictions period. Entrance was free that day, so we could visit the entire gallery for free. I especially liked the Catherine Dong exhibit. Staff at the reception was extremely friendly and welcoming. The gift store is also a must to visit. I would go back anytime, and highly recommend.
Beautiful place, wonderful staff. Well worth a visit at least twice!!!
I used to go to the AGH with my school every other week, they taught us an incredible amount about the different types of art and let us contribute our own art pieces at the end of the year. It’s one of the main things the made me interested in art. Definitely would recommend it to anyone, and especially those with little ones
Wonderful art and very interesting sculptures.
This is a really amazing art gallery and I really enjoyed visiting. The exhibits were very nice and descriptions were very informative. I enjoyed the Indigenous sculptures and artwork immensely. The original paintings throughout from Canada were very nice to see and the themes / groupings were appropriate. My favourite was the Volkswagen Van with all the movie and pop culture figurines and movie characters. There were lots of super heroes/villians and even Star Wars was incorporated. The gift shop was really nice with lots of artwork and prints. I really enjoyed my visit and would happily visit again. I was Solo and able to go through all the exhibitions in an afternoon.
Only went here once on a school trip and me being a boring old 5th grader i found it lame but I really wanna come back to this place one day and do a better search then what I did when I was in 5th grade i'll let you know how that goes with an update to this thread
One of my happy places! Large space to house various collections. Love visiting to see the new exhibitions that cycle through. Staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful. Space is well kept and clean.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of this amazing experience. My first time being there was a bit unconventional as I was there on set for the day. However, in being able to participate in filming various scenes in many of the showrooms, I was able to see A LOT of art. A lot of very different and unique art. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is 100% date night approved!!
I like that this museum is really creative with its exhibitions, not afraid to be modern and bold. Yet it has a few classical masterpieces as well.
Nice collection of Norval Morisseau (sp?). And, of course, the Westie.
Impressive art gallery. Great exhibits and nice size. They also host private events. Well maintained venue, easily accessible.
This was an amazing time. Each participant was presented with a drink coupon. The drink options were wine or non-alcoholic drinks. This painting started with a black canvas with delicately drawn lines to guide the proportions of the piece. We had guidance from the artist hosting the event and from the printout of the original painting. I will definitely continue to go to uncorked events at the AGH and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Absolutely fantastic! Lots of fun exhibits to explore. Before paying for admission, ask to see the second floor gallery. It's free to the public. They also have free entry to the full gallery (possibly with exception to some special exhibits) on the first Friday of the month. Enjoy!
A gallery punching above its size. Fantastic permanent collection and a proper rotation of local, national, and international artists and themes. Small and intimate but consummately a professional gallery. Recommended highly
This time was to visit Maud Lewis exhibit. Always great displays, clean and friendly staff.
Visited for the first time recently. Attended a meeting in a lovely room surrounded by art. After the meeting we had a guided tour of the Vivian Maier photography exhibit. I didn’t realize what a local treasure this art gallery is nor did I know about its long and impressive history in Canada. Truly impressive and I look forward to returning soon. Nice gift shop too!
Loved the Maude Lewis and Tom Tompson exhibits
Great gallery with nice pieces. I went for high tea with my grandmother and had a great time. 6 different kinds of tea and a delicious spread of food. I just wish there was some background music playing because it is held in a fairly trafficked hallway.
It is a small but very well organized Gallery. The origami exhibit was absolutely fantastic.
Such an interesting building with a gallery I had to see in person, Vivian Maier Street Photographer. Great display of local artist works as well. Something for everyone here and the staff was very helpful and friendly as well!
This is a great place to visit to see Canadian artist. it has a good selection of old and modern art. The galleries were well layer out and are accessible to the disabled.
In the heart of what can be a rather dirty, busy downtown core is this gem of a location that provides peace, quiet and creative contemplation. Love stopping here whenever we are in downtown Hamilton.
Beautiful, we saw the Michael Snow exhibit and walked around and looked at all they had there, parking was 6 dollars for about 2.5 hours. Lovely date spot.
We had a good visit. Most of the art on display is modern with quite a range of styles and media. Danute and I ended up talking about our reactions to a lot of the work. _Man With A Line_ was the piece that I really liked and _Horse on the Track_ was Danute's. Definitely worth the time.
Fair enough place for art lovers.
AGH is a wonderful spot to spend a quiet afternoon contemplating art. The Milli collection was fabulous as is the permanent collection. A respite from the busy world and truly soul nurturing
Attended a family wedding here. It was beautifully done, to the nines. Great atmosphere, staff, food, set up. My neice and now nephew in law couldn't have chosen a nicer venue for their perfect day.
Not too big in a good way. Consistently well curated shows. Clean washrooms!
Beautiful and modern. Small but interesting collection. Great feature exhibits. Be sure to make time to take kids to the 3rd floor exhibit as a delightful surprise awaits.
Bunch of Racist workers kept following us everywhere. I wasn’t even seeing art but it was more like seeing the security all the time. Unprofessional approach. The art is alright.. some stuff os non sense like they just put there to fill the rooms.
A great art gallery with lots of exhibition space with many artists on display. There is a large banquet space which offers great catering options.
Beautiful place. Went for a wedding. One of the best venues I've been to for an event like that
I liked the facility. I attended a private function when the Gallery was closed. Nice layout and lots of space. I only gave it a 4 star rating because the night Guards were stone faced and offered no assistance to find the room. They are representing the Gallery while they are there. Might want to address that.
Lovely origami exhibit plus local Hamilton art and a quiet sculpture garden too
Beautiful exhibits and centred around students in university, has less prestigious paintings than the Monet at the McMaster art museum but definetly also incorporates indigenous lifestyle into their pieces and exhibits

It was so wonderful to finally walk in the AGH galleries again, I almost cried. Loved Michael Snows exhibition, as well as Dreams. AGH has done an amazing job with sanitizing stations and distancing. Thank you!! ❤
Having been both a tourist and an event assistant, I can tell you that they really care about art and about representing the cultural diversity of Hamilton. It's always a treat, and I'm grateful that my daughter's school frequents the AGH for field trips. They are an invaluable asset to the City.
A great way to spend you day for a cheap fee. If you love art like me then definerly check this place out. I also think that is very touristy.
My brother-in-law and sister-in-law had their engagement party here. It was quite lovely and we have really good service. The staff was wonderful, and the space is excellent for someone who is creative. My sister-in-law definitely is and used it quite well, making it look very elegant and beautiful!
A great venue for a wedding! The sculpture garden is a perfect outdoor area and the adjacent indoor room has great lighting and ambiance that makes for a great reception. Plus there is some awesome art to see!
I love the vibe in each room. my favourite piece is the old Volkswagen with all the figures. So much cooler in person!

Fantastic experience. Our guide was a little too quiet though. I'd recommend going and exploring on your own.
A beautiful and well curated gallery. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the exhibitions were interesting and engaging.
Amazing Exhibits
I just love the AGH. As a recent transplant to Hamilton, I went with friends to see the Milli exhibition and decided to join the gallery. Am taking a clay building course and thoroughly enjoying it. Very accessible and some great pieces in the collection.
Very beautiful. Lots to see. The gallery has. a broad range of contemporary and classic art - with a good amount of great photography. we will return.
Great Art Gallery . Amazing decoration.
It’s pretty good
I understand art is subjective, but come on
Good collection but a staff member was pretty rude to me and it admittedly made for an unwelcoming atmosphere. However, the rest of the staff shouldn’t be generalized as such as I didn’t have much of an interaction with them. It was my first time back there in years so I was looking forward to an enjoyable time, wasn’t really expecting the slight unprofessionalism I was greeted with from the mentioned.
The wedding was amazing, very beautiful people with very good service
Very interesting place free admission for Aug
Elana d is very unprofessional. Claiming she works here.
The art there was nice to look at. Strong security systems. Students in some schools are with free admission. Check their official site for details
Visited during the annual family picnic and it was amazing. Kids enjoyed the art tables set up for self-portrait, family portrait or city scapes. Kids were enjoyed to leave their art for the collaborative city portrait. Bbq and snacks were provided at this FREE event.
Beautiful and modern. Small but interesting collection. Great feature exhibits. Be sure to make time to take kids to the 3rd floor exhibit as a delightful surprise awaits.

Open for Easter! (Good Friday / Easter Monday) Tickets are $10 (Students/seniors are $8, kids 6-17 are $4 and kids under 5 are FREE!) They have complimentary exhibit tours every Wed, Sat/Sun, & stat holiday at 1pm. Really love the museum! They are closed to the general public on Mon/Tues's but they are available for booked group tours / events. It's a bright, beautiful and inspiring place to be! The art pieces are magnificent and a description here wouldn't do justice. Must see for yourself. I highly recommend checking it out. There is also a children's area so it's a great day out for the family.
Absolutely a wonderful arts and culture liebensrum. Top notch community interactive engagement with varying representative groups. …
A great place to spend a weekend and be amazed artistically!
Free for McMaster University students with Student ID any day of the week. Otherwise the prices aren't staggering. Cool place for kids and the curious intellects. You will have gained a new perspective on something you had seen in the Gallery for sure. 10/10
Beautiful gallery. Went to see Alex Coleville Horse and Train, enjoyed so much more. The Milli Gould exhibit was awesome. Definitely take a look at the menu at the little restaurant. The Quinoa and Salmon dish was unique and absolutely amazing. Kudos to the chef!
What a wonderful surprise! The Origami Exhibit was wonderful.
Great art work nice place to visit for art lovers
Just the right size art gallery, not too big or small with a wide survey of Canadian and international art. Especially fond of the VW bus which is a work in progress since 1997. Housed in a 1970's style building it also features the Irving Zucker outdoor sculpture garden. Pleasant bistro with vegan options in addition to freshly made snacks and entrees that can change throughout the day. Gift shop. Friendly welcome from the volunteer staff and tours can be arranged. Special exhibits throughout the year. My only complaint is connected with the underground municipal parking garage which is dimly lit and the elevator leading to the art gallery is in need of service upgrades with floor indicator lights burnt out. Rates are reasonable. Complex is connected to government offices, a performing arts centre and convention centre. Open Wednesday - Sunday.
Great tour, interesting exhibit. Getting ready for new exhibit. Very quiet, safe experience during Covid. Friendly Staff. Free admission in collaboration with HPL
Maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough to understand art but how can you put gravy on a steak...?
Love this gallery so much. I’ve been coming since I was little, and it never fails to amaze me. The Norval Morisseau exhibit was fantastic, but the van will always be my favourite installation.
Art gallery is free Thursdays
The gallery was very nice. However the galleta personal at the Frost del where unfrendly as a resulto it diminish our excitement of the visit
Best place to take kids and adolescents to see art and have fun. Currently there is an amazing photo/video exhibition.
This is a great art gallery. Maybe not as big as the AGO or the McMichael but it is well worth the visit. They have a nice selection of paintings, sculptures and other exhibits.
Nice smaller public gallery. Interesting exhibits. Helpful staff.
A fine cultural institution and community hub. Fun events and whimsical exhibits. Reasonably priced gift store. Very reasonable membership rates.
This is a small but wonderful museum packed with interesting, beautiful, and inspiring works of art. I come here for inspiration and also to just appreciate the local & international art pieces. It's a bright modern building with multiple floors and there is a section that if you have kids they would enjoy and appreciate it.
Very nice place. Its kind of small at the moment but the pieces of art are very beautiful.
I like this art gallery. They have a nice permanent collection. They rotate their collection so it changes regularly. On the main floor they have excellent shows/exhibits that are very interesting to see and are sometimes only at and exclusive to the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Once they"re gone that's it. Very often these shows never make it to Toronto. So the smart Toronto set miss out. Visit AGH & Hamilton. Very very nice museum shop. You'll like it.
The gift shop is loaded with original art. Perfect place to go gift shopping or purchase a annual pass.
the staff are friendly the summer camp was below expection. the studio and the program are not designed for all ages..i wished there was a high chair for him. we were the only ones there...but our son enjoyed him self :) Kaity was so kind and patient with our 18 months baby. she modified the program activities to match his age which was awesome advise...go there when it is raining so you will have big group of ppl :) the program runs every Sat with different theme each week.
Went to a wedding here and we were so thoroughly impressed by the entire day start to finish. The venue is amazing.
Cool and interesting place. Highly recommend it
We went to see the Maude Lewis exhibit. It was a well rounded display of her life and work. There were also several other very nice exhibits of art and of course the ever evolving volkswagon van with a myriad of figures and dioramas. Always worth a visit to see.
Quite lovely experience. It was a nice atmosphere and has a very rich selection of art.
Excellent Michael Snow exhibit. Thanks, AGH for an excellent afternoon.
There are always some free exhibits to see, or on certain holidays access to the entire gallery is free. Also a good place to check out local artists and even purchase some of their original art work.
Once a month the gallery hosts Free Fridays; entrance to the gallery, main exhibits and a free tour are all made available to the public. On some Fridays there are additional events, like on Jan 3 when, in addition to special exhibits there was a special musical event going on. The building is architecturally interesting, consists of both indoor and outdoor spaces and even has special areas for young visitors. The room which serves as the gallery's archive showcases the long and rich history between the city and it's ever growing collection. Incorporating several different types of media this room holds value for visitors of all ages and can easily take up to more than 10 min, just for a quick scan of the room. In addition to the numerous exhibit spaces of impressive scales, the gallery offers lockers, a cloak room, a gift shop and a small eatery. The gift shop is full of unique and desirable items, objects, jewellery, art and even offers a gift registry. The cafe offers hot soups, sandwiches, drinks, coffee, tea, comfy chairs and snacks. The building is accessible, offers elevators and has drinking fountains for resting periods. We had a great time during our visit. 2 hours was not enough for us, and we can't wait to get back; perhaps we will see you on a Free Friday.
Knowledgeable staff. Interesting exhibits. Felt very cozy and friendly. I enjoyed my visit very much.
Interesting, always a source of imagination action and creativity...
Such a great place to go. Highly informative and interesting. I definitely recommend.
Educational! Very fun to go on a 3-4h date and talk about art
