Excellent collection displayed in a superbly constructed building smelling of intoxicating cedarwood.

An excellent museum with some of the finest native artifacts I have seen. The museum is a great place to learn a bit about the native cultures of the region, with well designed displays and good information. On the bluff right above the harbor, an easy walk up from the marinas below. Very much worth that walk if you are travelling through Prince Rupert.

We came in the late afternoon around 2:30/3ish. Which means we just missed the last tour of the day unfortunately. The museum is not as big as it appears on the outside, that being said for the size of it, it was a really great experience. They have a wide variety of Indigenous artifacts on display as well as a small room with a movie playing. What was nice, was we were allowed to take pictures in the entire museum. Some places do not allow photos taken to respect the Indigenous cultures. The pricing is great for what is offered. For two adults and a child it was only $22. I would highly recommend this stop in Prince Rupert.

This is a quiet, contemplative space with amazing Indigenous artifacts as well as early colonial pieces in context. As well, there is an excellent art gallery with frequently changing shows. The gift shop carries quality items at varying price points.

An impressive log-structured museum. Great layout, artifacts and information. Would’ve been nice if staff had seemed passionate about the museum, rather than disinterested.

Really great just follow their directions on the front door about texting to let you in. It's closed otherwise. Beauty of it is, once you get in, it isn't crowded. Bought a nice tuque and card at gift shop. Contrast railway myseum with awesomely chatty person! The attendant in here seemed a little unfriendly but no big deal. Still gets full stars. Building fits the art. Go and you will be delighted.

Great little museum with exhibits on local/regional history. Super friendly staff and really helpful. Would have liked more detail about artifacts in exhibits..ie dates for reference. Also, great interesting display of local photographer but no books for sale in book store. :(

Some amazing artifacts and history from an incredible people and landscape. Unfortunately the way the museum is curated is a little odd –lots of written history (which is super interesting), and lots of amazing artifacts, but almost no explanation of the artifacts you're looking at. I highly recommend going, but take someone knowledgeable with you, or get a tour or audio tour, or some kind of resource so you're not just reading essays in the wall and looking at objects with no explanation. But it's serious worth the trip.

Great museum in the center of Prince Rupert. Call ahead to book a spot and do visit the gift shop :)

My favorite Museum. I had a great exhibition back 2008/09. Beautiful Native art work and artifact. A must to see if going on West coast.

Shawna Larade

Beautiful Coastal art

Not much there

Rick Moncauskas

This place isn't big, but the exhibits are pretty nice. I took the tour and without that I think I wouldn't have understood much. The book store is GREAT. Lots of BC native history there and artifacts and art and souvenirs. One of the better places in Prince Rupert.

Arielle Houghton

My favourite part of this gallery is that it features are from each different First Nation in this area. It's display talks about how each ceremonial dress was unique and meaningful to its culture. I only wish there was more information in different mediums (oral, video, etc.) to understand some of the other pieces in the museum. Overall I really liked this space!

Shirley Calvert

Love love

jo arc

I spent over an hour looking at the exhibits. Pictures are allowed but no flash. $8 to get in. There's a nice gift shop as well. 4 stars because I paid full price but didn't have access to the gallery (renovations).

Louise Dormaar

Beautiful museum located in a replica longhouse. The exhibits are set up in an organized fashion that helps explain the history of the area.

Rob Long

Good little museum with some history of prince rupert and local first nations of the area.

Alicia Sam

Felt very safe with all the protocols. Lots to see and very friendly staff:)

Dale M

Nice display of exhibits. I would prefer a little more description, but still worth the $8 entry fee.

Blanca Amieva

Beautiful and you need to do an appointment so we arrive and call and found a spot one hour later and they open on time and we have the museum for ourselves

This is a very nice museum showcasing the history and culture of the people, both past and present, who reside in this Northwestern side of Canada. Before the Europeans arrived here with their railways and steamships to harness the natural resources, it was largely the First Nations Peoples who inhabited this region. As a result much of their art forms and traditional crafts have been displayed. There is a curio and bookshop as well. The museum is open on all days from 9 am to 5 pm in the summers. There is a token entry fee.

Carolyn Campbell

Orrin Groad

Small, though very nice, exhibit and beautiful artifacts housed in a very impressive building.

Mattias Parai

Amazing space, some nice pieces. My only complaints are it's too small, and I don't think many people want to see the colonial exhibits. Stick to the actual north coast cultural heritage.

Jean Milton

Robert Colbert

Wonderful place to visit, the exhibition of native American art and history are real nice but they should be dusting off the exhibition boxes...

Julee Mele

Not enough information on the displays

TIMOTHY INNES

Went to a meeting there

Joel Zahn

If you are a museum/artifact person, this is a great stop. The curator has a tonne of information and was incredibly helpful. The displays are really well done - uncluttered and tasteful. Gift shop is small, but well stocked with lots of different price points. Pictures are allowed, but no flash. I would visit this place again if in the area.

Pearl Kohlman

This is one of the most accurate museums (reading the information on the displays) depicting the interaction of the different groups of first nations people. Very well presented and the displays were impressive.

A very fancy and well displayed Museum featuring bits and pieces Canadian history and local history There was not a whole lot here but what there was was immaculately and beautifully displayed in high-end display cases This Museum had one panel which talked about the conflicts between the native tribes and the wars among them. Very minimum information on the wars In the photo exhibit they miss identify a 78 RPM LP rack as a photo drying stand Very nice open interior ,wood beams and natural wood feel money was not spared at this Museum

Dale Rodgers

Excellent museum. Loved the native exhibits and the on site local artist's work.

A lot of interesting things to see. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of explanation as to what you are looking at; more in-depth information on artifacts would gain them 5 stars.
