The museum is actually in the original Hanger that was used for the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Also Russell Crowe made a movie at the museum.

It is easy to get into and a quick easy tour for children. There are old planes set up to sit in and imagine you are flying them. Also there are quite a few models scenes set up to tell of the history of Brandon training center as well as the surrounding airbases of Manitoba.

Amazing museum, not only the WWII training planes and all the stuff related but the building itself. The museum is located in the same hangar built in 1940 so, stepping inside is just like a travel in time.

Labour of love by volunteers and it shows. A lot to see in a small space - the original hangar has working, rebuilt, and in progress aircraft, for example. It also houses a chapel, and 2 levels of exhibits, insignia, art, and mementos. The memorial wall for the fallen is maintained just opposite the main entrance. One of the skilled restorers was on hand to answer questions and chat. Worth a visit, and a donation. Lest we forget.

A very good ww2 air force museum. Original building, one of last still standing. Friendly staff. Artifacts and uniforms. You can walk around in hanger and see actually ww2 aircraft. Touch them. Sit in the cockpit, put ur head up in a gun turret. If you have little kids they can ride around in little airplane peddle cars in the hanger.

A wonderful National Historic site with veterans of the Air Force excited to give tours. Built to train pilots for World War II it is the last known building of its type in use. Many old planes from the era are to be seen (and flown in if you call ahead for the right day).

My son and I joined the Brandon Hills model railroad club that has recently moved into one of the museum buildings. So this makes this museum doubly enjoyable for us as the museum portion is very interesting and certainly worth the time spent exploring their exhibits! I particularly like the dioramas of period scenes!

Such a fun and cool place to visit! The Commonwealth Air Training museum was amazing! A 10/10 and I totally recommend it! Great fun for all ages, a lot of walking though so be prepared for that. If you want a run down of the planes of ww11 and MB contribution to the war effort then this is the place to go. You can see how planes are put together in the workshop, you get to see the different uniforms and Fliers and magazines and newspaper articles that have been saved from over the years that are encased or else copied and placed all over the museum, you get to see paintings done by local Manitoba artist that embody the planes of the second World War, and coolest of all you get to go through the hangar where they have the planes stored they even have one which you'll see in my video later that they have taken the skin off so it's just the skeleton and you can see what the planes look like when they're all put together. They also have the fire trucks from those days a lot of the Jeeps and and cars, the building itself is also cool. There's a memory Chapel that I didn't take any photos up out of respect, but it shows the names of all of the manitobans lost during the war, there's also a memory wall outside. The staff was very friendly there's even a gift store and I absolutely recommend checking it out.

RCAF Flying Officer William Taylor was in killed on March 15, 1944 when the Lancaster he was in crashed in France. This museum gives me a real glimpse into what his training was like.

as a ww2 air war history buff this place is it as it's the only museum dedicated to the Empire air training scheme known better as the British commonwealth air training plan the staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable as to the exhibits and artifacts in the museum which is housed in a artifact it's self a hangar built for the bcatp in 1940 and housed on a airport built for the plan

We spent almost two hours looking through all the exhibits, and reading about this fascinating period in Canada's history. There are many photographs, uniforms, and medals on display, as well as some of the actual planes that were used in training people from all over the Commonwealth to fly, and fight in WWII. You can even climb into one of the planes and pretend to fly!

We discovered the museum by accident driving cross country on our way out to BC (spotted a yellow training aircraft by a roadside hotel). I found this museum fascinating; since I had just read a book about the Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the great effort to plan and build the infrastructure to train the air crews for the war. My Dad, at the time a young man of 18, attended the CATP to be trained as a mult-engine pilot. Dad was assigned as an instructor before the end of the war. He lost both his older brothers, experienced pilots, to the war effort. The museum brought to life all the stories that I read in the CAPT book and adventures our father told us about as a child ! Everything from the hanger, Tiger Moths, Avro Ansons (multi-engine trainer), Link Trainer, etc I have been to many excellent air museums, I would consider this museum a diamond in the rough, and a must see for anyone interested in the Canadian Air Force (or British Commonwealth) early history ! Hats off to the volunteer group that has help preserve this key part of Canada's past ! Thank You !

just some thoughts

This is a nice way to spend a couple of hours. An interesting experience and important part of our history. Worth taking a little drive out to see. Kids would love it and there are airplanes they can sit in. Lots of historical information and facts, old letters and names of people that served. Excellent for school trips in my opinion. A small souvenir shop. And a nice day out.

This is a MUST VISIT, if you are in Brandon. The couple managing this museum and volunteers helping to maintain the WW II planes are superb. We had an amazing experience.

Cool remnant of one of the crucial roles Canada played in the second world war. The building is mostly original, so you can marvel at just how much old growth timber was used back in the day. The plans collection is kind of small but nicely focused, and they do have lots of things for kids to do. If you go in winter, bundle up, as the hangar isn't heated.

Fantastic place to see and experience a slice of ww2 history. There is a great display of original uniforms and items that give you a sense of how those who flew in the war lived. One of the hidden gems here is an original chalk board with original un-restored chalk and art from a school house during the mid-war tracking the students fundraising efforts for the war. Absolutely amazing story. In addition, there is the usual historical aircraft, some still running, and vehicles from the time. There is a static aircraft that is available for walk though and cockpit sit down experience. Toddlers will enjoy 'flying' one of the 2 pedal planes around the hangar to each exhibit. Although not the largest museum, a great experience worth every dollar. Don't miss the memorial walk on your way out.
