This Museum belongs to the category of Rail museum.
Pretty good
(Translated) awesome (Original) impressionant
Very informative in relation to Toronto's train and railway history. Awesome Steam Engines and rail work machines.
ok
Best part of our holiday.
Fun place to see RR history. Easy parking in garage, other things to see as well.
Very good museum . Only 5 bucks for a great expérience. You can also use a simulator :)
Beautiful sculpture...
(Translated) Well thought out, fantastic location and lots of additional attractions for everyone. The whole history of railways and a large number of exhibits encourage you to see this fantastic place with great potential called Railway Museum, which I personally highly recommend, and that the CN tower is nearby is just a plus, you get two in one.
Loved the train driving lesson. Such a small admission cost $5 to see the history stored inside and out front.
(Translated) I love the simulator (Original) J'adore le simulateur
Can be a better guided place. No simulation. Children rides seems limited to weekends although there is no information available anywhere.
It was fun. Just riding that mini train was awesome!
Nice little museum, small but with lots of info. The staff was very friendly. I wish we could've seen the back where they renovate the trains but I understand why that's not possible. We enjoyed it!

Great spot if you are interested in trains. It has a growing collection and needs donations and volunteers!
It's not huge, but this museum has twice been a godsend to me on days where I just felt overwhelmed by the hypertourism next door. Maybe not the best choice if you don't like trains, but a real winner for folks who don't feel up to long lineups and expensive admission prices.
Inside, I do not know, but outside, the Toronto Railway Museum is really interesting to discover with, among other things, many old trains, station buildings, and railway equipment.
Small but has loads to see and do
Interesting place to visit. The history of trains in Toronto and Canada is worth a look
(Translated) Railway Museum in Toronto (Original) Eisenbahnmuseum in Toronto
The tour was interesting
Nothing to see inside, 20$ wasted. Stay outside !!!!!
Outdoor part is really cool but the indoor area is pretty small
They recently opened up the train ride for a weekend. Tickets are purchased online in advance. There are 6 tickets per 10 minute timeslot. From experience, the train ride and subsequent cleaning took less than 10 minutes. As a result, our 12:20pm trip departed at 12:13pm. I believe they make up the trips at the end anyway, so don't worry about missing your time due to their accidental accelerated schedule. My daughter enjoyed the train ride. She wanted to go again, but we needed to go home for lunch.
CNR (CNoR) 6213 was original at Marine Museum in the CNE grounds.
Good railway museum. I wouldn't make it a destination in itself, but if you happen to be down by the CN tower/Rogers Centre it's a great place to spend an hour.
(Translated) Very cute, but extremely small. The best time to visit it in the summer, since in winter the external exhibition is closed due to the cold. It has a very entertaining train simulator if you want to visit with boys. If you are going to Ripley's and CN Tower, it is opposite, you can do the walk for all three.
Very sad place. A few static locomotives and a small museum surrounded by food and booze outlets which dominate this old roundhouse.
Cool museum, the mini train looked great for the kids. Wished there was a public bathroom there.
right in the downtown it is a nice way to be sent to a time much different than the busy Toronto.
Such a great place to explore. If you have time before / after a game or show I highly suggest taking a walk over and checking it out! They have an amazing display of trains outside too that make for the perfect family/friend/couples activity & photo opportunity.

Amazing place to visit with a toddler especially if they love trains. The museum is open today for outdoor display and they have trains like steam engines, passenger cars, and box carts etc on display. Located right next to the CN tower and Ripleys museum, they have also a mini park near by for children to play at right after. Cycling options are also available. My family drove here and we parked at toronto metro convention parking and exited through the south parking. As soon as you exit look for the stairs and you are there. So barely a two minute walk. Parking costs $5 per half hour and located at a very convenient spot. Due to covid this place is not jam packed so a lovely place to spend time with family on a nice sunny day. Would highly recommend this place.
Good trains
Perfect! Entering in a vintage Canadian Vickers car reminded me a lot of souvenirs, they used to operate on the AMT, for about 20 years, until approximately 2010. I really liked the railroad crossing, it was a cool and scary surprise for me, I was right behind it and the bell started ringing, I first thought it was for display only! In Exporail they have many signals but none is wired. Nice collection, I found many things at your store, the Trackside Guide is cheaper than what I paid last year in Montreal! I'll return next time I'm in the "Queen City".
This was a random stop as we had a few hours to kill in Toronto. We had planned on going in the CN Tower, but saw this place as we were parking, and spent a few hours here. We went to the Steam Whistle Brewery next door, and signed up for a tour a few hours later, then went back outside to check it out. There was a small train going around the area giving kids and adults alike a ride. There were a few engines outside that we could climb in and learn as much or as little about. And there was picture taking galore! In the middle there's a roundabout with a caboose on it. As we were looking at it, one of the gentlemen asked if we wanted a ride. Ummm... Yes please! We convinced a few other people milling about to join us as well! It wasn't much but it was neat to see how they would get engines and cars switched around. It was very slow moving, but that could have been cuz we were all just standing on it, and they didn't want us to fall. The guy running it told us everything worked in the past too. You can go inside and see them restoring old train cars and even walk inside a few of them! When we went they were taking donations until they got it completely up and running. The trains only take up a third of this old wheel house, and it's really neat to see and hear about the history! Even if you're not a train buff, I thought it was cool and a great way to spend an hour on a nice day.
Great static and running trains and wonderful old buildings give this museum a superb atmosphere. Great exhibits and a beer garden.
It's lovely place, my son enjoyed alot. More variety of trains and Joyful ride with small train. Kids, specially who likes trains will love it.
Great place for kids or people interested in train history
When we're in the area, which includes any time we are at the Skydome, CN Tower or Ripley's Aquarium, we always cross the street to visit 'Don station' to purchase tickets for the half km ride around the park. It's fun to get our tickets punched and experience the lights flashing and gates closing to pedestrian traffic as our little caboose rides by. The ride involves straddling your seat in the open while it choo-choos for 5 minutes over open terrain. $3.50/adult, $2.50/child 12 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult. It's thrilling for kids and fun for adults who aren't afraid to let their inner child out. Sometimes they even open some of the life-sized decommissioned train cars sitting in the park for visitors to walk through. Most of the time though, we just have to be satisfied climbing on the outside of the trains to pose for pictures as they don't have the budget to staff them. They used to have signs warning against climbing the train cars and engines, as they are quite steep and far off the ground, but people do it anyway. There's also the indoor portion of the museum tucked away that I didn't realize was there until only recently, despite the many times we've visited the park over the years! The entry fee is modest ($5/adult, reduced pricing for children) but we didn't go in so can't comment on the inside displays. Overall the train ride is a must if you're in the area and have children. It's right next to 3 major attractions, so it's not hard to do.
(Translated) A trip back in time. It's very beautiful. (Original) Uma viagem no tempo. É muito bonito.
It's best place only for Railroad lovers. Only difference as compared to Hamburg is that here you have actual locos, good old days bogies etc. Layout is far less.
(Translated) The exterior is worth it, several locomotives to see (and not to visit) and it's free. For example, don't waste your time indoors, invest your $ 5 elsewhere. It's very small, there are a few things about the history of the train in Canada but nothing more.
Not really worth the money to enter the museum, all of the main attractions are outside and free anyway.
Took a trip down to the Toronto Railway Museum today and had the place to myself. Open for tours inside or you can explore the grounds. First time seeing everything here and worth the trip. Great spot for kids as they would have the time of there lives. And Steam Whistle patio is open next door.
Amazing place with models and info on the emergence of rail locomotives. It also has a turning station which was used in the olden times to turn locomotives around while making a return trip
(Translated) It is a beautiful museum. A successful job has been done by establishing a museum by protecting and preserving the nostalgic Lokos. Thanks to those who have contributed.
Just few trains outside :)
My son loves it so much
Interesting museum, especially the outside place with old locomotives.
Most of the train cars are outside, but if you go inside stall #17 you can read, see artifacts, watch some videos and learn more. Only $5 and they take credit card. There is another building with a gift shop and a mini train ride. Takes 30min-hour. Great for any ferroquinologist. Take the skywalk from Union station to get there (follow the signs leading to CN tower/convention center as the tower and aqarium is right next to it across the street
This is a really great spot to bring the train lover (or just about any toddler). They have a little train that makes the rounds there and the museum (in the middle) is really worth a visit. Just walking about the train yard is free, the rest is pay as you go.
(Translated) Very beautiful to see from the outside, did not go inside.
Interesting but not amazing. Good place to visit once because it’s very close to Ripleys and the CN Tower. The mini train is worth it if you are with kids or if you are part of a group of adults that behave like kids.
Great railway museum
The mesum from the inside is very small although the simulator is pretty cool. But to charge 5$ adults and 3$ a child I think is a bit high, maybe not. The engines outside are free anyway. One idea is to charge per simulator usage, or have some more interaction.
I didnt actual get chance to go in as always seem to be shut..... Im sure next time I visit I will try again
Really cool spot to take photos while the weather is nice ???? if you wish to see some of the photos check out @BTYRELL on instagram
(Translated) Very small museum. (Original) Museo muy pequeño .
(Translated) If you read this comment, I will try to save you money. The museum looks great from the outside, but in fact, if you enter the portico where you pay when you get back, you can already see everything that has to see. The museum is very small and has very few items of interest. There is a train simulator, but play on the computer it will probably be better. $ 5 per person for this museum, a pure scam. We will sell you that you have access to the trains outside, but you do not have to pay to see them and anyway, you will not be able to get inside the wagons, it's closed for private tours. Really a very bad $ 5 invested.
The trains are great to see and it's fun for the whole family. The train ride is a decent amount of time for all ages to enjoy. We will definitely be back again once the weather gets better.
Neat to walk around. If you like trains it's worth a stop, especially if you're going to the CN Tower or Aquarium anyway.
Was a lot of fun, nice collection of rail engines and cars and rail equipment. The riding train was fun!
Interesting exhibition
Worth a visit, could be nerdier
cool kids hangout
(Translated) The locomotives as well as the reconstructions of tracks located outside are very interesting, it is impossible to visit them but it is possible to climb on the platforms. Regarding the interior of the museum which is managed by volunteers, some pieces are interesting, I appreciated the history of the journey of Queen Mother Elisabeth and King George 6. Activities are planned for young children. Just a small downside concerning the condition of certain windows which would need to be arranged (missing light, fallen dishes) and dusted.
My family and I stopped in on our last trip and the kids really enjoyed it, especially my son who loved trains.
Great exploring the outdoor area and don't forget to check out and try the indoor train simulator
Not very big for a train museum but its pretty good. I love the miniature train ride.
(Translated) The Railway Museum in Toronto, is located in front of the CN Center, the museum is located in the plaza inside one of the caravan's garages. A display of carriages and locomotives outside the museum, a free display, there is a small train for children traveling between the exhibits outside. The display in the "Museum" is poor and small and not worth going into, one small room with matte items. 2-year old daughter loved it!
ILIKETRAINS!
The outside Museum is great. Small train ride for the kid's. Inside Museum is very small. I was disappointed, but the kids did have fun in the train simulator.
Charming volunteer-run museum. Outside portion consists of a mini steam train that you can ride, several old engines & cars (including a caboose you can go in), and a tower. Inside portion has artifacts, a Lego model train you can look at, a toy train table for little ones, and a train cab you can go in and try the controls of.
Great place to visit
Good for kids
A good one
Small but neat. If your kids like train, they will have fun there.
Loved the downtown. Lucky to get a parking easily. Seemed well managed.
Great museum with lots of great stuff to check out.
Loved it. Simulated train driving was marvy.
Nothing to see inside, 20$ wasted. Stay outside !!!!!
(Translated) Great collection of old locomotives tracing the history of the Canadian railway, close to the imposing CN Tower.
Great little museum that discusses the history of the Canadian Railroad system. They also have a train simulator, which I highly recommend. It's a lot of fun.
Great exhibits- something for all ages! Awesome trains and turning area!
Love it
Nice.
Lots of fun for my train obsessed toddler!
Wonderful museum to visit with very interesting trains out in front.
Great place for rail fans who love history.
Good fun outing with chums, walked around and saw old engines and rail carts. Kids would enjoy
It is kind of small but other than that it is really cool have some really interesting things there of rail roads of the past
They restore these old trains so beautifully
If interested in locomotive history of Canada
There isn't much, but again, it is free, so can't complain either
Good place to enjoy with your kid
Good place to enjoy with your kid
A most interesting place indeed located at the foot of the city with amazing vintage yet important rail history of transportation in the big city. The box cars and locomotive engines are most beautiful even if from the past, they show those of us how much progress has been made. If you are fortunate enough you also get to see the engineers in the workshops as they restore or service other parts of the growing display. While touring these great wonders you also have nice outdoor food and drink establishments family oriented. Absolutely worth a visit and enjoyable by all ages.
Nice place next to cn tower. Many classic station eagons, coaches, steam engine for display. Including Go train coach too. Better if posted or display more history about the railways in canada. So more kids and family can enjoy their visit. Next is Roadhouse park. If have some rides for kids, better.
This place is great if you take the toy train joy ride which can be purchased separately. Museum has good collection with a nice train simulator. However, compared to the length of stay, it's bit pricey for a family
My 2.5 yr old toddler who is a thomas and friends fan had a blast here. The museum is small but can easily spend an hours time here. Finding parking at a reasonable price can be a challenge.
A small yet informative transportation museum in a unique urban environment. Located across the street from CN Tower, the outdoor exhibits are freely viewable and the indoor exhibits (small entrance fee, look for stall door #17) provide just the right amount of museum for the locale.
Kids big and small love it
The outdoor party was cool too see but inside needs to be bigger or reduce admission to get into the museum.
(Translated) An exhibition room more than a museum, some locomotive are outside but access is blocked. There is a locomotive simulator open to the public. You have nothing to lose by visiting it besides it's right next to the CN Tower (Original) Une salle d'expo plus qu'un musé, quelque locomotive sont a l'extérieur mais l'accès est barré .
Great exploring the outdoor area and don't forget to check out and try the indoor train simulator
It was a good experience and decent collection of rail engines, equipment , turn table etc. Located in the hub of the city just other side of the CN tower. Lots of history about CN and CP railway. Small kids will enjoy the rides with the model train. Overall it is positive experience and got a better idea about canadian railway history. Entrance there is a small fee.
Nice
Nice small museum with lots of cool information about Canadian train history.
The outside display is great, but I have never been inside, because whenever I try to go it seems to be closed. Considering this is next to other significant tourist attractions, I would hope that the THRA would have better hours and more effort to draw people in.
Great museum, nice equipment.
(Translated) Here you can see the history of the Toronto train. (Original)
(Translated) Cool museum for all who are interested in old trains!
Coolest collection of old rail cars. This is nice place to sit and relax and watch legendary CN towers. Also beautiful high rise buildings. Absolutely Happy traveling????
Very cheap and lots to see if you're into trains.
Nice piece of local history
Great locomotive exhibition in Toronto. A guided tour is included in the admission fee.
We paid $20 to get in to find out that it was only one room with only a few old train things. Then when we asked if there was more, the person at the desk said that the other part was under CONSTRUCTION!!!!!!! That was very disappointing. We at least deserve a little heads up!! And the guy refused to give us a refund! Horrible costumer service. Do not recommend this museum!
Actually interesting to see. Worth going!
What a gem. Never seen anything structured quite like it. The location can't be beat either. Base of the tower. Great city views. Fountain across street.
Must be a fascinating place for the kids. They are hopping around the locomotive engines.
Gets quite boring
Neat place to go to, for adults too! There are old trains outside to check out. The mini train would be fun for kids to ride. The inside part of the museum is small, so it would be a quick visit - 15-20 mins. Only 4 stars, because the inside part of the museum had limited exploring space.
Cool place!
Tonnes of fun for kids and adults.
The rains are awesome you can go inside them. I think there is even a ladder inside one.
(Translated) Really too expensive for what the museum offers. There is nothing really interesting to look inside.
Enjoyed a lot great collection of train engines.
only issue is that they keep playing the music loader than the people trying to have conversations at an event where the conversations/networking was the whole point of the event
I really enjoyed this place, I learned a lot in the museum about the Canadian's railways history and outside I took some amazing photos.
A pleasant surprise! Me and my daughter stumbled upon this little museum and we loved the miniature train ride
For all ages. Try the simulator!
(Translated) A spectacular location: what remains of the old train depot, surrounded by skyscrapers in Toronto. A nice theme park, with very well-aimed scenic reconstructions. The museum part itself is lower than expected, but ultimately the museum is a place full of charm that certainly deserves a visit on a sunny day.
Was told about here and when I looked online nowhere mentioned it was mostly seasonal. So even mid may at 25 degree weather, 90 percent was not open. No ride, no open rail cars, half museum was closed and the simulator was down. And it was still full price. None of this was mentioned before you pay either. Waste of money unless you go in June or July.... And we LOVE our trains.
Not a big place but full of interesting artifacts. Some good activites for kids. Fun simulator. The train cars are outside and don't require an admission fee to see.
Spent the day with my bestfriend and checked the train museum out. Has a cool mini train that runs in the summer. Cool collection of preserved old equipment and engines. What a fun day

(Translated) Interesting (Original) Interessante
The Toronto Railway Museum is a sad joke. There is only one single room to visit and the train simulator sometimes doesn't even work. Don't waste your money on nothing at all. The most interesting things to discover are actually for free since they are the trains outside the museum.
A good place to see . I was there in 2011. It is an open museum
(Translated) Bad experience. A real muggle man. The "museum" consists of a tiny room with half a dozen pieces. It costs 5 dollars to enter and is not worth it even if it was free. Nice outdoor museum in the middle of downtown Toronto, but there isn't that much to do or see.
Educational and fun learning for the kids
Wonderful museum
Enjoyed Miniature train ride
We were initially impressed with being able to take our 2.5 year old son through a train car. Every toddlers dream at some point! However, the staff at the steam car really need a lesson in customer service. We arrived at the pickup point minutes too late to register "properly" for the last train ride of the day. We were able to pay the staff for our son and myself to go on, something he was incredibly excited for. There was plenty of space on the train and two separate staff members turned us away. Rules are meant to be bent a little are they not? Especially in the case of a super excited 2 year old. Try explaining that to a budding train enthusiast. Completely soured our experience.
Great piece of Toronto history. Indoor and outdoor attractions.
(Translated) Only the outdoor exhibition hall is worth seeing. The entrance fee for the indoor museum is $ 5, but it is too small to see. (Original)
Had a great day today. Our boys loved the minature train ride. The female with black hair and brown skin tone was very friendly she drove the train. But the skinny female with brown hair was very unwelcoming. Sour face on her. She punched the tickets at the time we went. The main thing is our boys enjoyed themselves. And for the first time ever they finally posed in front of every old train for a photo!
This is a nice spot in touristy area of Toronto. A good family spot. Picnic tables, trains for the kids to explore and a little train ride. Definitely recommend.
Nice place and great to know the trains history. My kids love it
(Translated) Very good photos, and it's free although there are not many trains (Original)
It's a small space but my son had a great time there, specially at the Train Simulator. Very interesting display. ????
We stopped by this attraction because it's right across the Aquarium and the CN tower that we were going. Nothing special but it's free (at least the outside portion) and it was cool to walk around and explain to our son how the roundhouse worked. A must if you are a train enthusiast.
Excellent use of the old roundhouse. Reasonable admission rates albeit limited opening hours. Adds historical flavour to an otherwise sterile part of downtown. Like the fact that the outdoor part of the museum is free for people to roam around in and see locos and coaches up close. If you're lucky enough like today for me, they fired up an old loco and got it onto the roundhouse, like a kid in a candy store, great to see!
Cool Canadian history. Kids enjoyed the interactive stuff.
GREAT!
Good
It's been great
It’s a fantastic place. Although I didn’t have the time to enter the museum, I spent some time at the yard which had some engines from the bygone era stationed. Each has some kind of history to it and an informative signboard gives all the details. It’s a good place for kids and families to spend some time.
Loved this place so much!! We happened upon this museum completely by accident and it felt like serendipity as we both really love trains. It's a free exhibit/museum with a bunch of trains on display and a small little gift shop. The whole experience was lovely. There were little plaques that gave you some history - but not an overwhelming amount. It felt very manageable and the fact that it was free was of course a great bonus. We had no idea this was here, and it was such a pleasant surprise! Would definitely return if we were in the area again. I appreciate that in a city where space is at a premium, they have dedicated this amount of space to their history/roots. A+++
Great displays. Friendly and helpful staff. Interesting and informative. Worth checking out.

The inside is an informative place but rather small. The outside is absolutely stunning
Not much to see, but maybe fun for kids to play around the area or have a picnic lunch on a nice day if you're bored.
(Translated) Very well located, in the CN Tower area (Original) Muy bien ubicado, en la zona del CN Tower
Very cool
Fun for young and old. Miniature train ride, outdoor exhibits, and an indoor museum with computer train simulator. Cheap, too!
A quick museum to take a stop by if you're in the area.
Small museum short tour of heritage Toronto rail. Enthusiastic staff. Very cheap 2 hours. Mini train ride for kids.
So cool to see actual different types of railcars and learn about the history of the rail industry in southern Ontario.
This place needs a little more fixing other than that its interesting place to visit in downtown Toronto
(Translated) A place to visit, the history of the train in Canada and its routes that helped build this beautiful city, they still maintain the oldest steam engines in the world and in perfect condition of care., If you are already in Toronto and near the tower , walk a little and you will be in this magical place that will transport you to the past.
Very neat museum in the middle of downtown. You can try actually conducting a train. They also sell rubber duck dressed in a train conducter suit, because it is a con-duck-tor.
Nice area showing off old Toronto trains.
Interesting
I had a fun time but the trains are close in the winter.
????...VERY DISAPPOINTING.. ???? Walking from the 'CN Tower' to the 'Biergarten' thought I'd take a "butchers" (look). The admission price was low and I soon found out why...???? There was a distinct lack of exhibits to hold ones attention for more than thirty minutes...???? It was a very poor advertisement for the 'Canadian Railways' (CNR) whose magnificent 'Tower' overlooks it. ????...COULD & SHOULD BE...???? SO MUCH BETTER SUCH A SHAME
YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I LIKE TRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a perfect train show. I love it! Also i have a question to the owner. Do you use Hornby and Bachman trains?
And a fantastic time we love Ryan little miniature train to.
Pretty interesting
The museum itself is very small, there is little train you can ride with your kid on the brewery side. Quite fun, kid loved it.
A Heritage for trains.
It's a great place to take the family, especially if you want to learn about the history.
I became a child again when i visited the place. It's a treat for train enthusiasts
The museum is not big, but it is nice to pay a visit. The miniature train ride is fun for kids and grow ups alike.
Excellent and very nice
(Translated) I can see the train (Original)
The museum is small, I'm not sure if the other half is just workshop or in construction. One of the real train display is in maintenance as well....When you walk inside you see this huge train that is there and we thought we can go up there however it's in a restricted area. They should have inform people half of it is not accessible before asking people to pay $5 each. Im glad the kids are not old enough so we didn't have to pay more. Better spend the admission for the mini train ride outside then the "museum" itself.
I saw this place by chance while looking for a good observation point for CN Tower without the skyscrapers hiding it. Essentially here you can see a dozen locomotives and train wagons that are cool to see and touch and take photos at. If you're into trains and you are either alone or with consensual adults then you might have a look at it while moving between the waterfront and the CN tower-acquarium complex. You can also pay no more than 5$ to see the interior of the museum, but you shall not think that the most is in it: in the whole roundhouse, just one stall (one garage) hosts the museum's indoors collection, which doesn't really take much to see. Just to avoid the "entering and feeling guilty for not looking interested and then buying a ticket" situation. The most to see is in the outside, but the ticket is cheap and contributes keeping the museum alive. Ah, beware the seagulls on the back of the roundhouse. I saw a little girl far from me and alone being followed and getting annoyed by them.. those beasts are daring!
Lots of various trains to see around the park
Great place to visit
Not bad for a free day out but most trains are closed.
The engines outside are pretty cool but the museum is remarkably underwhelming.
Beautiful!!
Fantastic place. Loved to see old engines. Kids were surprised to see that in old cars sofas and writing tables were provided. We spent time in the yard. There were few engines. Worth a visit. Enjoyed mini train ride. Inside area is quite small and seems packed.

Enjoyed every minute while learning more about Canadian innovation. See it for yourself and discover something new.
Pay for a private tour if you can. It is worth every penny. It is universally attractive to all, even if not a rail way nerd. Lots of history!
Great fun for the whole family!
I thought it was great! It was really cool seeing all the old train cars and stuff. I went with my dad who's been a conductor for CN Rail for 30 years. He explained what everything was, and inside showed me basically his job on the train simulator. So many different artifacts. I got a couple things from the gift shop. Definitely worth the $5 to go inside. Loved it!
Is nice. Right now is under construction. Make it look like the $5 is to much but actually isn't. I guess the fee includes the outside part. So actually is a good price. I didn't take the small train ride but is cheap. I wish one day the trains can be access the inside too. I wouldn't mind paying more if that's the case.
good
Injoyed the different models and railroad memorabilia.
The roundhouse is amazing to see from outside. I didn't find anything valuable in the museum unfortunately--its super small. Staff were very nice though. A bit sad to see that the roundhouse was mostly converted to restaurants and bars as it has a lot of history and could have been a mega museum.
I really enjoyed the museum and the outdoor displays of the trains and was well worth it. I know there was a lot of negative reviews about the indoor presentation being too small but when does anyone have the opportunity to see the trains up close in person and go inside them , that alone is worth the admission. Highly recommend this exhibit.
Not really all that much to see, and the nice trains are already visible outside.
Museum was boring but the mini train was nice
(Translated) I visited only the outside. It's interesting to see how train lane changes and different locomotive models work. In addition the place is nice because surrounded by a small park and around the square there are some terraces. Really amazing to see this kind of place in the middle of the skyscrapers in Toronto.
Not a bad place to spend an afternoon :)
A friend and I checked out the museum this past Saturday, during the 90th anniversary celebrations of the roundhouse. They have vintage engines, cabooses, and passenger cars, some of which you can explore. I was very impressed with the old single-level GO Transit car, which was usual on their system until the bi-level cars that we see today arrived back in 1978. The old Don station is on the site. It's the boarding point for the miniature train ride, and part of it also serves as a very well-stocked gift shop! The museum itself in stalls 15 and 17 have many artifacts, as well as a passenger car and a train simulator where you can play the role of engineer! There's also a video which outlines the history of the museum and how it came to be. We paid special rates as this was a special event, but $5 is more than reasonable as a fee at all other times. I'll definitely come back!
Looking at their site on line you would figure that the old train roundhouse would be the whole train museum but thats not the case.. This so called museum is ony 2 stalls out of 30 or so that houses the train museum the rest is a brewery, and some sort of up in coming rave nightclub? that is expanding westward with new constuction, and both are encroaching on the doorsteps of this place and pritty soon this museum will be squeezed out like a pimple.. ALL the exibits are stored outside including the restored equipmen and is showing a lot of deterioration that is slowly taking hold of the colection, the Northern steam engine that used to be store at the CNE for 50 years has had its cab numbers painted over in glossy black?... Maybe they should just paint it like the rainbow flag... This place has no direction and is run by a bunch of airhead girls that smile at you if you ask them a question about the museum, but if you would ask them about perfumes, handbags, shoes or the best place to buy them they would immediately tell you everything on that subject... Every exibit is closed outside and some are completly fenced off, but they want you to pay admission to see a room full of junk and stand in line forever to try the train simulator... This is a failing venture, I'd give it 3 more years, so you better see it before it all ends up in the scrap yard wich would be a terible thing to do but money is money and it talks... Toronto wants to be a world class city and has chosen New York for its model, so all we need now is for vandals to vandalise everything there and make it worthless like in New York, Its just a matter of time before we live up to our new New York image.. What ever happend to our old unique Toronto when everyone was happy before and life was great and we could see the lake.
You can see all the rolling stock for free. It's just one very small room inside - that is not worth the 5$ admission, but I'll count it as a donation.
a great place to visit. many old train displays for free. not worth to spend 5 dollars to see small workshop. finding a car park is a nightmare.
Four stars because the price is low and the kids loved the simulator... but be aware the inside portion you pay for is very small. I was expecting at least a train or two to be inside the roundhouse and that is not the case. There is a train cab simulator which was neat but overall a bit disappointing for adults. Checking out the outdoor area is sufficient.

Complete ripoff. $5 gets you into an about 10x10 'exhibit' of pictures. Period. Could it be temporary? I dont know but after paying $5 i dont really care. I have more train pictures in my garage. Maybe i should open it as a 'museum'. Shame on you folks.
Worth visiting the outside which is free but $5 to enter the tiny museum was really not worth it! Took us 5 minutes to look inside.
Very disappointed. Paid $5 each for absolutely nothing. The 'exhibit' inside was small and did not remotely warrant the price of admission. The train cars outside were closed. I understand that they are in the process of making new displays, but I would have appreciated a discounted price.
Nice to see the railway heritage of canada
The train ride is the thing to do especially for 3-7 year olds. Unfortunately, the actual museum is not worth going to if you have smaller children as the activities geared to them do not work properly (electric Thomas the Train set) or are broken (regular track/train table). I agree that many of the staff were not to friendly for a Tourist attraction.
Awesome thanks
Sheldon's favorite site.
I brought my kids downtown to see the museum and was so disappointed. Even my kids couldn't believe it is a museum. Waste of money. Don't bother going. The outside which is free is the best part. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.
(Translated) Very well (Original) Très bien
My family enjoy the little train ride. There is a little park near by.
Very interesting. Especially the story about the Nova Scotia train explosion
Because it's a random place in front of CN tower and a good spot to take photos with nice downtown background but nothing particularly special about it I gave it 3 stars. There are few old National Canada train sitting in a little park just off the aquarium stairs. Good memorable pictures. Kids would have so much fun there.
It's awesome to see different kind of trains there
It was very interesting but too small.

$5 admission ($3 for Little Man) to go inside stall 17. Worth every penny. 17 - Historical pieces, maps, videos, old tools, dishes, uniforms, and more amazing artifact items to check out. Little Man loved the simulator. We both liked learning about The Canadian and the history of rail in Canada. Outside (free) - Check out Cabin D to learn about (and try) the track switches. Learn about what went on inside a Caboose. Climb aboard the new GO train car. Don Station has the Gift Shop and is worth a visit inside even if you're not in the shopping mood. All of the other trains cars can be seen from the outside even when the museum is closed. Watching the turntable rotate was pretty amazing! Wish I took more pictures. I swear I saw Wilson from Chuggington.
Fun right in the middle of the city
Good fun for kids.
That might be my son's favourite spot in town. He loves trains, Thomas & friends, brio, all kinds of trains. He enjoys riding their little steam train. It costs $3.5 for an adult and $2.5 for a kid. A 5 minutes ride always makes my son's day.
A small but educational museum. Ask about the trains in years 18XX-1950.
Simply cool for the enthusiasts or non.
It was ok, the people who work there are nice

Amazing time at the museum, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Toronto or hasn't been there before. Has a cool mini train, great to bring to the family too. Great historical building. Very fascinating for the kids and for adults. Great place!!
It was great to see some of these old historical trains after our visit to the CN Tower & Ripley’s Aquarium. This museum was just right next to all those sightseeing places. They had a nice presentation outdoor. If you have time and like to find out more about the railway, I think the indoor museum has a lot more to see.
(Translated) I went there because the reviews were so good, just a few old locomotives, some vans, and a little history. It's not bad to visit, and it's not bad to go to the nearby CN Tower or aquarium. I went to the CN Tower and watched it on the way to Harbourfront. In the middle point.
Nothing that special but you can have some nice photos of CN Tower there!
Nice place to visit people who like old machine, particularly rail.
It was wonderful & being my first time to see the place. Everything about it was excellent too!!!!
Good to be here with nice weather. You can ride a small train with your children.
(Translated) Interesting and curious these old trains in the middle of skyscrapers!
You get to do the train simulation its so much fun
Great place if you or your kids love trains!
Was downtown T.O. and thought it would be nice to check it out. Google said it was open, we got there and saw a sign owned by Toronto train muesem also saying it was open, go to number 17. Get to number 17 and doors are closed... There were also grandparents with their grandchild who took the Go train all the way from Whitby hoping to go inside as it was his birthday and he wanted to visit the train museum. But of course this being such a world class city its closed even though everything else says its open. Moving here from a small town it is clear by calling it a world class city it is a sarcastic joke as it is anything but that. Scary its biggest city in Canada and probably has most tourists but seems everything here is run by clowns. Easily worst city in Canada and I truly pitty anyone who comes here, just a complete stink hole
Good place for kids and adults also. If you look At it like learning for kids and the single turn table for the train and is garages , wonderful place to visit. Small train for kids to go is a fun thing.
Good place
Good place
Immaculate pieces of railway history on free public display. Haven’t seen the inside section yet, but the handful of artifacts on the outside are really cool. Some of the steam locos especially give a sense of the monster machines from an earlier time.
The museum itself is quite small, but it has some interesting content. There is a train simulator, with real controls, and some exhibits on the history and function of trains. Outside the Roundhouse are many trains and passenger cars, some of which you can enter on guided tours. Finally, my favorite part was the miniature railway for kids, which goes on fully functional mini train tracks.
Great exhibit of locomotives and railway uniforms. Don’t forget to try the simulator
Most you can see there is outside - old locomotives etc.. Do not go inside of the "museum", they want 5 dollars inside and there is literally nothing - 1 room like 5x8m and only some old pictures... If it would be free, ok but 5 dollars for this is almost a scam.
(Translated) You can look at the outside area for free. You can do this if you are interested in railways. However, the paid part is a surprise. It's absolutely tiny.
This place is fun for all age groups. Especially for children.
Not enough room to di
The interior portion of the museum is a bit a small but it was nice to walk around the trains outside
great place on the weekends for understanding the history of rail in Canada
Didn't have time to go in but some pretty interesting stuff on the outside as you can see in the pictures I took. Right across CN Tower.
Could be a good museum. It should be better kept considering that its downtown Toronto.
Took my grandson, who loves trains, here after seeing online video. There were no trains to go on. The miniature train wasn't running either. Museum was very small. Very expensive for what is there. Very disappointing
(Translated) The small train ride is very interesting. Except for a few locomotives, the exhibits in the museum are too small. But there is a good experience driving a train!

Waste of money. Paid 30 dollars in total (5 dollar per person) to see an 40 square feet museum with uninteresting photos. Feels like a scam, don't visit!
Only 1 room with some exhibits. Chance to have a go on a simulator. To be honest the museum doesn't greatly enhance just walking around the carriages outside the museum and having a go on the miniature railway!
Nice for children

For 5$ you will be entitled to a 5 minute visit to a very small junkyard.
Enjoyed small Railway Museum

The Toronto Railway Museum does an excellent job showcasing the very exciting history of Toronto and Canada's railway history. The Museum is located in the historic John St. Roundhouse. The Roundhouse was the former Toronto repair facility for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The majority of the museum is outside but I also highly recommend going to check out the inside portion of the museum. The inside portion is not large by any means but they do their best to ensure that each inch of the space is filled with some sort of exibit. I especially recommend this museum for any railway buff or anyone who will be taking the train across Canada. I had the great opertunity to perform at the grand opening of the museum in 2010 and closely watched the evolution of the museum since about 2006. Since he museum opened they have continued to expand and create many new exhibits that continue to turn the museum into a must-see attraction in Toronto.
Very small museum not worth paying for. Staff is not very friendly, just pay for the trainride not for the museum admission. I would wish that the museum would find staff that actually like their job.
Great
Great staff
Museum was closed, but kiddos liked climbing the trains on display
Good place for the kids play, especially mini train. Also a good place for marriage photo
Great Museum! A must see if you’re going to visit Toronto. Staff is very nice and knowledgeable.
Great little museum with a low entrance price. It's fun to see the trains on the grounds and then have a beer at Steam whistle nearby.
Small but very good considering the price. You don't need me than about an hour.
(Translated) To see, in addition it is a stone's throw from the CN Tower (Original) A voir, en plus c'est à deux pas de la CN Tower
Great place for children. Boy 5 and a girl 9, my husband and I enjoyed it too.
There is something so nostalgic about trains, reminds me of childhood...A glimpse of glorious past of CP and CN rail... Excellent place to take your kids on weekend and also take them on a tour to Ripley's Aquarium and CN Tower
I really enjoyed the old railway collection.
I loved looking at all of the old photos and train cars.... Best part, driving the train!!!!!!

Very Good. I really enjoyed the tour and would definitely try to go again to experience the other tour and the miniature train ride. Parking was also not too bad to find and not too far. It especially helped being able to get the parking pass that could be added with the tickets.
Great exhibit of early steam and diesel trains. Antique Pacific Railway carriage, Toronto Hamilton Buffalo railways caboose, CNR and other carriages including a unique oak liquid storage tanker said to be one of only two left in existence in Canada. There is also a mural of a beautiful steam train in the station.
Interesting place to go
Really nice place if you are interested in railway
