This Museum belongs to the category of Museum.
This a true hudden gem in Toronto.
I would not recommend this museum for the average person. You have to love textiles to appreciate it.
Highly recommend!! The current exhibition — ᖃᓪᓗᓈᖅᑕᐃᑦ ᓯᑯᓯᓛᕐᒥᑦ Printed Textiles from Kinngait Studios — was SO GOOD ❤️. There’s also opportunities to buy really good fabric at low prices. The gift shop is not the best but overall it was a great time!!
Good and interesting but small for 15$
Βeautiful. I wish it was bigger

Quilts by various designers
A small but mighty museum. Super friendly staff! Has a well stocked gift shop.
The museum has two exhibitions on at the moment Itchiku Kubota and Ikat prints from Latin America. The museum is small but showcases some exquisite pieces of textile once you may not see even if you were to travel to the country of origin. They are rare pieces made by artisans and weavers using traditional techniques some of which is lost to us.
It very expensive! There are some things
Great exhibits, well curated.
I would spend every Saturday afternoon here if I could
Great place to visit
Saw a wonderful exhibit last week at the Museum and was thrilled by the execution and creativity the staff brought. Also everyone was incredibly friendly. I am excited to return to check out other shows.
As a art student working in fashion this museum was an absolute pleasure, I want to go back so bad!
good
I guess it all depends on what the exhibitions du jour are but when we were there, either the modern take on tapestry or the traditional art of painting on kimonos offered a very rich and rewarding experience. The staff was most pleasant and helpful. Maybe not the most well known museum in Toronto but one which is very much worth a visit.
Small and unimpressive. If it is boring is subjective and depends on your interest in textile. However the exhibitions there are so small that I hardly believe this can be called a museum.
Interesting exhibitions, it could be curated better.
This one of my favourite museums in the city a hidden gem. Wonderful innovative exhibitions. Check it out
Has some great shows and a cute shop but is extremely small. Feels like one or both of the floors are closed without much to see between major exhibitions. I wish it had more funding as this place is a rare gem. They also have workshops which I have never attended but are taught by visiting artists and craftspeople
Interesting place to explore the history of various textiles around the world. The ikat exhibit was beautiful.
I usually quite like this place, but check before you visit to see if they have a special exhibit - beause without one it's very small.
Hidden gem. Lovely and knowledgeable staff.
The museum has a hands-on loom and braiding equipment with instructions but were jammed without much room for weaving.
Beautiful and inspiring. A great way to spend your afternoon study prints and texiles
Ancient texture.

Great Museum! Hidden gem.
(Translated) Spectacular collection and an architectural jewel (Original) Espectacular colección y una joya arquitectónica
Fascinating specialist textile collection supported by volunteers.
I'm into niche and off the wall, but even so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this museum. Their exhibits were impressively unique and thoughtfully curated. You're absolutely going to learn something new here.
We arrived an hour before closing so I was rushing my kids a bit. It isn't a large museum with one floor to look at textiles and another floor as a gift shop/market place. They do have quite a number of weaving looms for the kids to try out. And if we had a bit more time my kids enjoyed the table that was set up demonstrating how to do a cross stitch. Unfortunately, there was no one to demonstrate at either of these stations.
Museum dedicated to textiles. Not my cup of tea, but I visited its Crosscurrents exhibition, the interaction between first Nations and settlers. Got a pass from the public library so got in for free. Some interesting works. All works were on one floor and about 4 rooms. A wealth of history in there, worth a look. Has a neat museum shop with lots of cool nicknacks.
Beautiful experience, a lovely museum, I will go back every time I'm in Toronto, the staff were very friendly too.
Great gallery space and shows. Well worth seeing.
Thought it was a bit overpriced, but we certainly enjoyed the exhibits we saw!
Love!
This was a neat little museum with quilts as art and history. It was different than anything else we had seen and it also had a nice little gift shop.
Cozy. Experience fibre art. The "Wild" exhibit is....
Great experience. Incredible exhibits.
Very small, temporary exhibition was boring. Gift shop expensive
Went during a turnover in exhibition period so unfortunately there was only one floor available. The museum is small but the gift shop is mighty! Includes items from around the world for young and old.
Very friendly staff and some really interesting pieces in their permanent collection!
Nice exhibit
Wonderful exhibition by First Nation artists
Small museum that focuses on textiles. Often it isn't busy, which allows you to spend time and read thru the exhibits without feeling rushed. Lots to learn about textiles! Their gift shop is awesome inside. A lot of handmade goods, high quality items that are great for gifting or for yourself.
This is a very small museum, with a very niche appeal. I was pleasantly surprised by it though! The top floor has a massive display of woven religious text that is a real wonder. It has contributions from hundreds of weavers in more than 20 countries. The text and videos about its creation span the whole floor, and you can't help but be impressed.
There’s not much stuff to see, but the staff is really friendly and the exhibits are very well put together.
A hidden gem!
This is a lovely small museum mainly run by dedicated volunteers who love anything to do with the creation of works of art done by weabing, embroidery, dyeing, printing, etc. We saw two contemporary shows by talented and thought-provoking artists that were technically advanced snd breathtakingly beautiful. The gift shop is fabulous! So many cool things, many handmade either locally or fair trade. We will go again!
Gorgeous displays, knowledgeable staff, good museum off the beaten path
(Translated) It is small, but interesting for those who like it, I recommend the visitation on Wednesdays, at which the rate is optional. (Original) É pequeno, mas interessante para quem gosta, recomendo a visitação às quartas, em que a taxa é facultativa.
Nice place to visit
I didn't really like this museum when I visited several years ago. Maybe things have improved. I finally decided it was the lack of windows and eerie quiet that made me uncomfortable here. There are many other choices of museums to go to!
Often described as a gem in the city, this is lovely little museum downtown. Although it's small, there are always well-curated and beautiful pieces on display - I always leave having seen or learned something unexpected. Excellent gift shop too. (Also if you're a member of the Toronto Public Library you can pick up a MAP pass in the library branch at City Hall and visit for free!)
Great little museum. Saw a pretty cool exhibit here.
Small and quiet. A hidden gem of beautiful art
(Translated) Small museum without a permanent exhibition. But the one I saw was interesting and well assembled. (Original) Museu pequeno, sem uma exposição permanente. Mas a que vi era interessante e bem montada.
Very informative library and a beautiful gift shop which has nice collection of indigenous products. A little overpriced though.
Top notch museum with an excellent event space. John went out of his way to be helpful and hospitable during my week-long event. The auditorium is comfortable and well-equipped, and the museum is full of wonders! Thank you!!
Two great exhibits
Love the speedy service and awesome food!!! There's is great variety on the menu!!
Colorful and decorative. Lots of designs and creative styles. If you are interested in patterns and textiles you must visit this museum.
This place is a sweet little gem among the smaller museums in Toronto. They will frequently hold workshops relevant to current exhibits where attendees can get hands on experience learning various fibre arts techniques!
Nice museum not much more. The space is small and not well lightened.
Great place & even more beautiful exhibitions
Great little museum in the heart of the city. Love the store and plan to buy my unique gifts from there.
These are some photos from 2010 Open Doors Toronto.
I visited the Textile Museum to see a kimono exhibition. I'd never been to the museum before, and I was impressed. It's a small museum, and the shows I saw were carefully curated. If you're like textiles and are looking for a non-rushed, quiet and unbusy place to visit in Toronto, head here. In addition, they have a fantastic gift shop, which is also carefully curated. They connect with local and small producers to bring a varied and interesting collection of items for sale in the shop.
Tora embroidered was an amazing project. Rest of the exhibit was freaky weird and scary but it is temporary .
An absolute gem of a place to visit. If you have an interest in textile in all its forms, this should be a recurring go to place on your list of places to visit. The atmosphere is welcoming, the exhibits change on a regular basis and cover a wide range of interests. The final stop on your visit should be the Museum shop which ties everything neatly together like a package. Enjoy.
I would like have more information about the history of textile.
I like the carpet from esfahan!
Nothing but paying for tickets
This place was really cute. It's a two dollar entry fee and you get to touch a lot of the art. There's a looming area that I really enjoyed. You get to try out different styles of looming machines which was really intriguing. The beaded art was wonderful and intricate. I loved the time I spent here.
Nice place
I thought everything was very nice including the layout of the pieces.
(Translated) I love that opportunities are opened to exhibitions from other countries ... very good exhibition of "Huicholes" (Original) Me encanta que se abran oportunidades a exposiciones de otros países... muy buena exposición de "Huicholes "
Interesting museum. On Sunday at 2pm, they offer a guided tour. It makes all the difference!
It was interesting and worth going. However, for us, the price was high for the size of the exhibitions. It was 15 dollars per person. On Wednesday there's no entry fee, it is just a donation of how much you'd like to give so if you're looking into it, it's a good day to go. We agreed that 10 dollars is better for the entry fee if you compare it to other museums prices and what they offer. Other than the price, the place was great. We'd recommend going up the stairs instead of taking the elevator if you can, it was quite noise and slightly scary.
Always surprising. Great exhibits.
A lovely little museum that has always been very well curated - if you can make it before August 2020 for the exhibition on Inuit screen prints I highly recommend it!
Beautiful works, historical works, sometimes both
The museum is a bit short in art pieces but still worth to visit.
Fantastic little museum with rotating exhibits.
Wonderful little museum. I went when it was between exhibits on the second floor, so I only got to see the Tapestry of the Spirit: The Torah Stitch by Stitch Project. This exhibit is well worth seeing and I highly recommend watching the short film about the project that is showing in the gallery. The scope of this ongoing project is pretty astounding. I am working on a project for a class, and they didn't have anything on display at this time that was relevant to my project, but their collection is online, so it is still possible to view everything. But I was able to use my student card for a discount, and the museum was so worth visiting anyway. I LOVED the gift shop, which was full of little treasures. I could have spent a couple hours in there. Some things are expensive, but purchases support the museum. They had a large selection of books, including some that are now out of print. They had some great books that were of particular interest to me, as well as catalogs of some interesting exhibitions I missed. I am only in Toronto for two weeks out of every year, but I will definitely visit this museum again now that I know it is here.
Worth a visit. I was not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised.
A small museum and very interesting collection of fabrics and textile.
Not too interesting, expensive for this exposition .
Need to broaden there exibits. Was only one open bit of a let down. Maybe better when the rest is going but don't charge for what little was open.
A hidden gem, right in the heart of downtown Toronto. Rotating exhibitions, some live demonstrations, kids activities at times. Fairly small, so won't take you long to get through it. Cute gift shop.
cute and kids friebdly
This museum is a small treasure to be discovered. They run great exhibitions - excellent way to spend an hour or two. Visited it several times and will come back again. Highly Recommend!
Small place, and it wasn't so interesting for me. Actually, it's like an art gallery not like a museum!
High quality
Off the beaten path - unique exhibits.
Two floors of not very much.
Nice staff but musem looks a bit abandoned
Great fabric based artwork
A great little museum. I went for the Prayer Rugs temporary exhibition a few years ago, and it was great. They encourage you to touch and feel the fabrics. They also have a loom that you can try it, which is a lot of fun.
Small, but packed with lovely things! Really appreciated the contemporary quilt exhibition!
6 years in the making, 'Tapestry of Spirit' is an ongoing collaborative work of art by over 1500 'stichers' from around the globe. A must see for all. Child friendly museum with engaging guides and interactive ptojects.
Excellent location for museum. Good access
Small little place
Very informative library and a beautiful gift shop which has nice collection of indigenous products
Nothing much to see.
Saw the kimono exhibit on the last day and it was absolutely stunning. The displays were lacking due to the space set up but well worth the $15. The staff is very nice and welcoming.
A little expensive for the size, but I applaud their education and workshop efforts
One of Toronto's gems. I am always impressed with the quality of their shows.
See the amazing texture of life.
Entrance fee is $15 per person but the exhibit is on one level unless there is a special exhibit then it would cover two floors. There is not much to see here but they do have an tour offered on Sundays at 2 p.m. I would say there are much better museums in the city to visit.
Always a pleasure to visit. So beautiful
Showed up an electric wheelchair For a Japanese textile exhibit. Fully wheelchair accessible. Toronto's Hidden gem
Cool textile art museum
This Place needs funding as well as more things to display. they didnt have much textiles from other kind of fabrics from other part of the world The stitch the Torah project is amazing they should advertised it, that was the most disappointing thing its not advertised as much as it should have been and the people from Christian and Muslim communities should participate in it with full force and achieve the target of completing the project as it also features stitch the verses from the Bible as well as the Holy Quran. It was quite educating.
Small but interesting
Just smaller than expected. And highly advisable to join one of the pre-scheduled tours with a guide
Educational.
It was rather lackluster.
A quirky Museum that has all sorts of interesting things.....
We need more places like this
Not a massive museum but I would still visit just to play on the looms
Nice place
The textile museum is a hidden treasure for textile lovers. It's exhibits change regularly and it is small and intimate as well as being a Good learning space. the gift shop is particularly wonderful with a beautiful array of things from Canada and around the word Not to mention the wide selection of reading material, gift cards, children's gifts and more! The gift shop is a real gem in my book : )
Wide collection of textiles from across the world
2nd floor has meeting auditorium for rent
A beautifully curated museum featuring incredibly important thought provoking exhibits. Two floors currently honour the work of a Sikh artist, Jagdeep Raina, and Inuit artists among others. Was impressed to see the space provided for stories and heritage through this art form in a way that truly represents roots ancestry evolution perspective and where we’re going. The use of mixed media (films projected, sound, artwork) really fed our senses. Appreciated the second floor recycled textile area where you can purchase and dig for donated textile treasures or even donate your own. You can also try your hand at weaving at a small activity table which was fun. Happy to see a wide range of offerings and books at the gift shop that reflect the art and roots of textiles. The space is clean. Staff are lovely and welcoming. The museum’s location is tucked away off of busy Dundas and made it pleasant to access. A visit here is perfect for an inspired cozy solo date or to be enjoyed with like minded company for conversation.

As someone who designs and creates their own garments this is a must see. I fell in love with the quilts!
Excellent and small museum, just around the corner from City Hall. Great programming
Loved the exhibit and hands-on experience..friendly staff. would recommend.
Nancy Crow modern art quilt exhibition, fantastic! Canadian textile exhibit equally wonderful.
Textiles are art, craft and love, too often anonymous though admired through generations.
If you are a Toronto Library card holder, you can get Textile Museum passes from your local branch. Exhibits on the two floors rotate periodically. It was on the small side but worth checking out.
Not many people. So relaxing and enjoy the textile arts.
Recommend highly. Exhibitions I've seen well presented and highly engaging, even for a non-aficianado such as myself. And an excellent gift shop too!
Cozy, educational and historically significant. A welcoming atmosphere with really friendly staff. The learning hub and library are a nice touch. 10 minute walk from St. Patrick TTC station and 20 minute walk from Toronto Eaton Centre.
Lovely exhibit of komono
Very much enjoyed hooked rug show, great to celebrate these important pieces of Canadian history
Such a magical place and so reasonably priced. One of my favourite museums in Toronto!
Always love it I volunteer here.
Always something really interesting for fibery folk.
it was amazing
Fun
This place is a total rip off. They practically stole my $15, while the contents the exhibition was worth a $2 ticket.
It was smaller than I thought it'd be, 3 floors. But it was very fun and nice. Don't forget to check out the gift shop. That is it's own museum as well. They have a movie projector to show off some making of movies. We didn't stay for all of them but that right there is also worth it. Be careful, you may end up going the wrong direction and going through the displays backwards. They also have an interactive section to use olden spindles and machines
Very interesting and informative. Amazing gift shop. Good location.
Very enjoyable visit. You get to see exquisite textile works.
Amazing place, great exhibition. Totally worth checking out.
Cute but overpriced
Loved the Torah scroll and the tour guide did and amazing job of that exhibit
Local artist promoted
Wonderful exhibits, too bad it isn't bigger
Boring
The kimonos at this place were amazing
Honestly such a let down. Permanent collection nowhere to be found (I was told by the front desk that it only gets put out occasionally - what kind of 'permanent collection' is that?). No indigenous textiles, no beading, nothing about the history or examples of Canadian textiles at all. There were two exhibits taking up both floors of the museum. I wouldn't spend 15$ on this again. I was very excited and I was left incredibly unimpressed. None of the photos of items on the website or posted outside on the advertisements are actually on display. The small part with the looms was very fun, but that's about it.
Great if your interested in textile art.
Amazing little museum. Highlights for me were the Stitch by stitch Torah project. It is just incredible how this has been conceived and how people around the world have contributed their skills and time. The displays are arranged well, the space is bright and airy, there are seated areas for looking at videos pieces. There is also an opportunity for some hands on experiences, ie weaving on small table looms, this was good fun.
Not worth the price, very short and average display. Unless there is a special exhibit you’re interested in don’t bother.
Small museum, should take an hour to complete. Not too interesting. But good with a free Toronto Library museum pass.
Good if you already have a strong knowledge and appreciation for textiles. Wed at 5pm is pay what you can. Tiny museum so an hour or 2 is plenty. I recommend it to weaver's, dyers, knitters, textile artist, etc. but not otherwise.
Small but great exhibits!
The museum doesn't have many exhibits on display and it can be covered in half hour. The bead work section was interesting. I spent more time at the gift shop going through the collection. The museum has a hands-on loom and braiding equipment with instructions but were jammed without much room for weaving.
The exhibits were beautiful and the reuse centre and gift shop were amazing. I came home with lots of beautiful fabric, notions & yarn.
Nobody deal with kids always make noise. Only kind have gift, but the ticket of kid is cheaper. It's bad experience.
Very less collection
It's a pretty small museum but its nice, neat and has nice exhibits
Went there for my art history final essay in March, this museum is amazing. Although it doesn’t have a large space like ROM or others, but all of the textiles that presented are adorable. They also have a small gift shop. I talked to the staff, she explained the history of the museum, how the museum works, etc. The staff is really nice and patient:)
Must visit Museum
This is a small gallery, a bit out of the way, but worth a visit. It showcases art in a different medium than what you'll see at the AGO down the street. Make a point of checking out this gallery.
Exhibits were well presented but would be more exciting to include more exhibits as some spaces were not optimally used (empty walls).
The exhibits are beautiful and educational. I haven't attended any of the classes but they are related to the current exhibits The gift shop has a wide variety of products, from clothing and books to craft kits and home decor.
Would go back for the teach-ins
Museum was much smaller than we expected
Nice exhibit. Recommended to go on Wednesday where it is entry by donation
A little disappointing. I expected there to be a base exhibit of cloths and clothing with additional exhibits. they only have special exhibits. While interesting it seemed a bit thin.
Friendly staff but not enough stuff to explore
Very nice and unique. Recommended
No wow factor at all.
Free admission.
I had the opportunity to visit on an art school trip where it was great.
Honestly only got there because I had free passes, i guess I am not that much into textile. But honestly there isn't much to see, just two floors with couple of exhibits.
Nice museum, very small though. Cool exhibits for people who have appreciation for textiles, dyeing of fabric etc. would be nice if they had more exhibits in addition to the Latin American and Japanese. Good with the library map pass.
Magnifiscent exhibit. Checkit out.
An absolute must visit! The Hybrid exhibition and the Kinngait textiles amazing. I was completely immense into the story being told on these textiles. It was truly an hidden gem and a lovely getaway from the noisy city outside. I loved it and definitely return.
It's almost like art but from textil.
Nice collection of modern quilts
Good weaving guide
Better than expected. They had 2 expositions (1 per floor) Japanese and Huichole textiles. The guided tour was great. They also have a hands on where you can operate a number of weaving machines.
The Textile Museum is small and the permanent collection is only exhibited if the pieces are related to the temporal exhibitions. Now, the exhibitions they have right now, one of quilts and the other from artist Jane Kidd are amazing. I didn't know you could do such an amazing art with weaving and quilts. A feast of colors and forms. Highly recomendable.
Beautiful exhibits and reasonably priced.
So glad we got to see the Torah project. Amazing! And did you know your Toronto Library branch has free passes for this and other museums? Thx, TPL! Thx, Textile Museum! And the gift shop is terrific.
I am a volunteer greeter at this small and interesting Museum.
Saw Sheila Hicks exhibition there. Waste of my time.
Fascinating....there shop is a place to buy unique items.
Very interesting collection of textiles from around the world. Good collection of historical pieces.
Nice quite small place.
