This Museum corresponds to the category of Art museum.
A Little out of the way for downtown but worth it!
Good experience
Very disappointed with the lack of enough art for the space. The space was extremely sparse. The works by the glass artist and muralist were wonderful. The installations take up a tremendous amount of space and then the walls are largely empty. Really was wondering why so little art?
Narration makes it come alive. Make sure you download the app!
Awsome experience, mind opening . Great space.
Workers at the museum in the lobby failed to tell us that they were between exhibits, which was not posted publicly on their website. Wasted about 15 minutes wandering and trying to figure out where to go before they told us that they chose not to inform us to “see what we would do”. Not a very fun experience when only visiting Toronto for two days and having a limited amount of activities to pursue in the timeframe.
This is not a museum yet. I have been there two weeks ago and all I saw was white empty walls and columns. No art yet.
There was very little here and they did tell us that and said you could visit the exhibit in the fourth floor for a donation. I think I would be happier if I’d decided to not donate at this time and wait until they had some real exhibits in place. There wasn’t much to look at and, what was there, wasn’t very well explained. When I asked someone there, they weren’t helpful at all. No write up on any of the pieces... and there weren’t that many. I was disappointed. I hope it gets better when they have installed the next exhibit.
The building looks just perfectly fit the interior. Definitely gonna go there again! Highly recommend to try the light therapy.
I had a very memorable experience at the grand opening of the museum, would definitely recommend a membership to the the Museum.
Under Constrcution currently but looks amazing and is a must.
Distinctly underwhelming.
Great atmosphere arr and staff!
(Translated) Great place to enjoy contemporary installation art. Exhibition of small works suitable for relaxing and having fun (Original) 현대설치미술을 감상하기 좋은곳. 천천히 여유를 갖고 즐기기에 적당한 소규모 작품전시
It may be in a Uranus location, but the building and its history is interesting. The staff are friendly and helpful . The exhibition spaces work well . The Cafe when I was there last was well worth a visit.
Not really my type of exhibit but definitely thought provoking, interesting and well done!
Awesome place to go with, or without, kids. My 4 year old absolutely loved it and the staff were so kind and helpful. Looking forward to going again.
Good collection, love the art exhibition, a bit too small for what it is
Creative innovative and thought provoking art Amazing facility !
I honestly expected more from this. The exhibits were okay. The work space Studios feel like ocad Studios or U of T architecture Studios, but at MOCA they seem to be more curated and unless artistic and spontaneous like they are at our artistic educational institutions of Toronto. The renovations for the most part we're done well hopefully their programming will be better in the months to come.
A small but mighty collection, on 4 floors. Visiting the main floor is always free. Check the website to get the date for free admission on Sundays. The building is about a 10-minute walk from Lansdowne subway station. Note: It was a precarious walk on the VERY slippery sidewalk from the subway because no one on Sterling Road shovelled in front of their homes or scattered salt. I had to walk on the street. Be careful!
They have a really nice cafe, called Forno Cultura on the ground floor with lots of awesome goodies. Go for the art and stay for the cafe!
Great building
Interesting installations on the 4th and 5th floor. Friendly guides. Excited to visit again soon!
I went there a few days ago, the museum and the building is fairly new. I don’t recommend to visit to it right now.. there are no much things to see there. maybe wait a couple months to visit it again
I absolutely loved my visit to MOCA a few weeks ago. It is located in a hip & grungy, bohemian neighbourhood that adds to the artistic element of where the museum is located. Staff were warm and the exhibits really impressed me. The only feedback i'd give is to add more exhibits! Definitely would recommend
Great new contemporary art space in the city. Artists in residence have an eclectic palate, and work with a variety of media as they create their perspectives of the world. A very large, open warehouse/gallery. I look forward to viewing many works from a variety of artists in the coming years.
What’s the point of even keeping it open to public? Save yourself some time and dont go there.
This new institution.of Toronto's cultural life, located on Sterling Road just minutes away from Roncesvalles, is a place I always love returning to. The ever-changing works on display make each visit a joy.
Nice installation, great staff, interesting expo!
Maybe I just don't get it ????
A 5 mins visit. Number of exhibits < 10, go to any office building or even mall may have more art pieces to see. The only exhibit is the Dead Tree, if you say that a piece of art.
They are struggling to fill the floors with exhibits, but what they do have is usually really great. The main floor has a wonderful interactive block display/area that is fun to move around in, especially if you have kids. Cafe space is aces.
Great exhibit. Cool place.
KILLER SPOT! a great way to spend the afternoon. Grab a coffee and treat at Forno Cultura after you check out the exhibits
Contemporary art and architecture
weird stuff. cool
Poorly curated and horrible art.
Not much art to see. No parking so had to circle the streets a few times.
Beautiful space. Some interesting exhibitions.
Amazing, cafe on the main floor. Affordable tickets and great art work displayed.
Moca has a ton of potential, but it's early days yet. The building and physical display space is terrific, but it's a bit hard to get to and parking is expensive. The three exhibitions that we saw were interesting, but not particularly relevant to Canada. The curators probably need a bit of time to try out some different approaches and see what works in the space and the market. On the good news front, the museum was full of young people who seemed to be enjoying the art installations. One other caution: the exhibit space is on 4 floors and elevator capacity is limited. There are stairs for the physically able.
Visited on Sterling Sunday (free) with my 6 year old. There was enough to keep us busy for 1 - 1.5hrs but that's because they had crafts for kids on the 2nd floor. Without that it would have been a quick 20min visit. My point is that it's not very big so I'd only visit again if we were in the neighborhood and it was free. Staff was lovely.
The opening was great. Some minor kinks to iron out but this will be a great museum!
Free admission on Fridays at 5 pm to close. Easy to pre-book an appointment. Free parking on the street immediately outside the building.
absolutely amazing. it might be hard to locate the first time you go there, but the heritage building really stands out (literally). check out the exhibits... there might be some time in between major stuff when there is not that much stuff to see, but it is usually cheaper during these periods. the current exhibit is really awesome, but it is ending soon (like January 5th or something).
Just one exhibit and it's a tree
Great building, disappointing exhibitions. Mostly self-involved video installations and personal works that may be interesting to the author, but they fail to engage the audience. Intellectual navel gazing in a cool converted building that could do so much more. The first floor, which should be a welcoming, open space, is particularly poorly utilized. Gift shop the size of a bus shelter and a very oddly laid out cafe that did nothing to make me want to linger. Given that 's a bit of a trek to get to it, I'd say give it a miss unless you can bike there in decent weather.
Amazing food.. beautiful space to sit and enjoy a coffee. Historical building. Art and exhibits interesting..food for thought....calm atmosphere...main floor huge blocks made out of soft material for kids to build stuff..don't have to pay admission to hang out there . On weekends they offer kids crafts or interesting activities. Brewery next door..
Beautify space, they are still transitioning though. Should be fully open by Jul 25
Great art installation, very well designed and easy to follow. Thought provoking and quite intense. The cafe is stocked with really good food and drinks. Highly recommend as a wonderful afternoon out.
Light on art...
Must have to visit in Chicago!
Disappointed. There were like three “exhibits”. Not worth money to go in. Seemed very thrown together. Only three floors and when I went, one was under construction. Very underwhelming.
What a disappointment. I hope that the collection improves over time. The whole place feels amateurish.
Excellent moving exhibition for accessible price.
Better than any other museum of contemporary art. I've only been to the lobby but it's a hell of a lobby.
Only if there’s more exhibitions and works for this beautiful space. I heard they have some new exhibitions coming in May. The Forno Cultura cafe was the highlight of my visit, which can tell you how little work they have on view.
What a spacious museum full of all kinds of weird things! Very interesting installations both visual and audio. Will definitely return.
Excellent contemporary facility. Oddly hidden in a gritty post-industrial part of town, giving it that artist loft vibe that suits this kind of art presentation space so well.
Interesting installations, but really limited! Only two artists on display when we went last. Not a lot of variety.
I'm very excited to pick up a membership and go the new MOCA! The opening show was great, I ran through it very quickly as it was so crowded. I was most interested in the interactive exhibits as well as the open artist studios. I'm hoping to return soon to take more time and take a look at everything. The new location is awesome.
The space looks improvised to say the least. Has a nice modern / industrial mood, but only 2 exhibition floors and a total of 5 installations when I visited. I was expecting so much more of this space and left disappointed. We were done in less than 15 minutes. MOCA has a lot of potential but at this point in time it's all about what it could have been.
Very clean installs and great art. This was the perfect way to spend a few hours as the museum is very concise.
Check out the Friday night events. It’s awesome to dance in such a great museum!
Don't waste your time! You can't call this a museum!
As there’s limited to do during these questionable times, seeing the 2 exhibits were great! Would recommend for a weekend outing.
The Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art was an ok experience for me. I attended the “Pay What You Can” exhibit in August. Service at the Front Desk wasn’t pleasant. The clerk was sharp and sarcastic. It wasn’t a welcoming experience. The exhibit itself on the 4th floor was small but intriguing nonetheless. It was a quick visit for me as the atmosphere wasn’t welcoming. I’m not sure if I’ll return but I do want to give the utmost respect to the art and artists featured.
Small installation, leaning more towards audiovisual. However, interesting artistic proposals.
Wonderful building with impressive old Colonna and doors. Beautifully refurbished into a funky space. Wonderful mix of patrons, including lots of kids. Fabulous coffee and pastry shop with honey, oils, etc., And a quirky gift shop too. Interesting potential for a biz meeting spot.
Great exibitions and collection. Worth the visit!
Staff were lovely, however, there was very little to see, we were in and out in 7 minutes. Lots of empty space - not much 'art'.
Very moving pieces and still very accessible if you are not an avid art gallery goer!
Awesome space with a lot of potential. Obviously your experience will vary based on the exhibitions when you visit. When we visited, they had only a few exhibits open and their light room, which was really nice. The other exhibits were more miss than hit, but there's definitely potential in the space.
Located in a super cool industrial chic building, the museum is spacious with knowledgeable staff with awesome Forno Cultura in the lobby. It’s definitely not a traditional museum but a place that gets you thinking and reading to figure out what each pieces mean. A bit challenging to fully comprehend but that’s what makes it contemporary! Unconventional and current (on-going).
Beautiful venue, but wish they occupied the entire building. They need more exhibit space to truly showcase more contemporary art.
Problematic.
Great space and exhibits, interesting and uncommon space for contemporary art.
It was bad. Sry
İmportant art venue in Toronto
Interesting exhibits. Cool building. Tip: Your ticket is good for 20% off at Henderson's Brew Pub down the street.
A good start with support for new artistic modalities.
Super exhibition, i will never be the same.
Brand new so clearly working a few bugs out still, but beautiful space. The art was interesting and well laid out. The opportunity to interact with in house artists on opening day was great. It's not super accessible by transit and winter may pose an interesting access challenge. I look forward to visiting again
Somewhat small museum. I was expecting more. I know it's new but it felt overall empty.
Paid $8 a head for a guided tour. Tour guide spent possibly 15minutes with us and left the group on the fourth floor without notice. Exhibits were interesting although only two floors - you will likely spend 30-40 minutes here. Consider the AGO.
Came to see the GTA 21 exhibit and it was really nice, recomend to come on Sundays because it's free, the cafeteria Forno Cultura has good coffee and Italian pastries.
I liked the idea of MOCA far more than I enjoyed my visit to MOCA. It felt more like a contemporary office space than a gallery. Why are there so many offices (the majority of the building, from the looks of it) and so few pieces? Of the art we did see, it felt like the focus was on obscurity for obscurity's sake. While there were some beautiful and nicely designed pieces and some interesting video installations, I found many of the works uninspired or ineffective, only put on display because of some nebulous political messaging. I understand that it's a new gallery and these things take time, but it was disappointing. I'll check back in a year.
This place is a hidden gem. Not many people visit this place like other well known museums . But trust me if you’re into arts you would love this place
Very empty galleries. Either eclectic or plain weird stuff.
I was so excited for a new museum in Toronto but it honestly got a long way to go. It was so small I finished in an hour (took my time with each exhibit but I didn’t watch any videos).
A great space, but not very much is there.
Wasn't a huge fan of the exhibit that was featured when I visited, but the space itself was great and I appreciated the focus on art even if it wasn't my personal taste.
The art was different and interactive which made it more fun
I’ve been trying to get a hold of their info/ membership department for the last day and a half to clarify one simple thing and I have yet to receive any sort of a response. I totally understand that it’s a smaller gallery than some others in Ontario, but this is ridiculous and super poor customer service.
Nice place. The best way to modern art!
Without comment on the exhibits themselves, the venu offers a surreal escape from the big city feel. The neighbourhood has a bohemian aesthetic which feels reflected in the art and design of the place. A great date experience.
Very cool use of the space. Partnerships with fourno cultura for food/drinks and Art Metropole round out the experience. Ever evolving exhibitions so check their website before you go
This refurbished factory is a fantastic showcase for contemporary work, with event spaces and artist studios. Art Metropole’s location on the main floor features artists’ publications and editions making this a two-for-one art destination. Looking forward to seeing MoCA grow into this new home.
I was expecting more. Except for the first floor, this museum is pretty empty.
Interesting expositions and delicious food.
It's so nice to have a new museum in Toronto! The place is still a bit bare but everything I saw was great. Prices are reasonable. Worth visiting
Small but growing space, certainly appreciated as a fresh face in the Toronto gallery scene. This museum is entirely Installation driven so keep your eye on the exhibition dates! I enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning. Also Fantastic cafe on ground floor with utterly amazing pastry, worth a visit even if you're not attending the museum, should be lovely in summer. Bookstore niche but fascinating. Look forward to watching this place grow.
Used to love this place when it was on Queen West and this new location is in an area with tons of promise. The cut up nature of the museum however makes for an awkward visit and will restrict it's ability to put on larger exhibits and transition visitors among exhibits. Currently seems isolated, fragmented, and expensive.
Seemingly a work in progress, that I fear may never be complete, the building is stark and more akin to a coworking space than a museum. While it may be novel to have in-house artists, as a paying spectator, I expect to see the finished product rather than the production process (a bit like sausages and cars). Set amid an austere industrial area,I’d prefer to return when things are more developed and thought-through (inside and outside the building).
TIP: If you're coming by car on the weekend, go within an hour - 1.5hrs of opening to get free street parking on Sterling. Ok for $10. Although the building itself is a fair size, the actual area of art exhibition isn't that large. I think half of the building is office space. The 4th floor was closed during my visit. The 1st floor which is "public space" and therefore free, has no actual art - only a coat check, ticket counter, gift shop, seating area, & a Sud Forno which is still being worked on. So actual floors with art is the 2nd and 3rd. It's contemporary art, so you may want to check online for the actual exhibits that are being displayed. Chances are though that you won't be familiar with any of the names! I cannot imagine spending more than 45mins here...unless you sit down and actually watch the all the films from beginning to end. Family friendly though as I saw quite a few people with strollers! Free Wi-Fi.
Tiny, nothing really to see. Nothing to do with kids.
Very nice museum
Good
Huge modern art museum, recently opened. Entrance for students around 5$, adults 10$. Some part of exposition you are able to touch, for instance huge cubes at the lobby. At the curve screen you can watch some art videos and short documentary movie about refugees' life. Play zone and elevators also available. Open till late. We had so much fun there.
This review should be more about MOCA and less about the garbage exhibit I had a difficult reading my way through because my eyes were rolled so far into the back of my head (I'm looking at you, behind me, Douglas Coupland). But at this point in time it's hard to separate the two.
What a hidden gem! Beautiful location, the art was fantastic. Left me wanting more!
Art is on a level of pop art. Curators should visit Museum of Contemporary Art Montréal. It looks like they were trying to fill it up without concept. On a flip side, allmost all videos are really great.
One of my favourite Art Galleries, they always have a good exhibition on and on Friday’s after 6 it’s free
Love this contemporary art museum. It also has wonderful eats on the ground level, and just steps away from Ethica Coffee and the Drake Commisary!
Went a long way out to see these exhibits. It was slightly underwhelming, however the potential is there! The art community is strong there and the architecture is pretty neat
Fantastic museum and building. Excellent restaurant (Forno) on the main level as well.
great building
Modern with a vintage flare, renovated aluminum factory with a lovely cafe on the main floor and gift shop.
It’s not bad. It’s a good space but there not much in the way of exhibits.
Too small. Too in the middle of nowhere. Who closes an entire floor with most of the exhibits. It was not worth the visit and not worth the time and effort to get to. How disappointing.
A great art gallery for all!
Amazing art installations. Must see :)
One of the most interesting museum in Toronto.
Small museum , reception didn’t check our tickets and only 3 out of 4 floors were open
Nothing inside to see but 10 $ to get in
Sooooo happy we have a substantial contemporary art museum in Toronto. I've been to the two mid/post pandemic exhibits and really enjoyed them. It's not a huge space (three midsize floors), but they make the most of them, and the space allows for a lot of flexibility. Sometimes the exhibits are all connected, sometimes not. And it's usually not to crowded (esp now). They're doing times entry tickets, which are good to get, but outside popular times like early afternoon, I've always just walked in. The cafe on site is also fantastic for coffee, sandwiches, pastries and a nice seated patio. You don't have to go anywhere else, but if you do there's a great coffee shop next door, and the Drake commissary around the corner. Also, make it an art crawl, and go check out the Arsenal and other galleries in the area! @danielmoneta for more
Great museum just a little small.
I loved my experience at the Museum. The value for the money paid for the ticket is totally worth it. We got to explore 3 floors worth of exhibits. The exhibits were thought provoking and wonderfully made. Will definitely be back again for more.
Interesting...
This is where the real good good art is at my guy YUH. Come in on a winding sat night to hear thevmandems speak on some real stuff and explore the art.lets get it. Better than the AGO and the building is cute as an old industrial factory
Wonderful space, excellent installations and curation, and friendly staff. Excited to see how the gallery evolves.
Pretty poor collection. Looking forward to more.
I had a very memorable experience at the grand opening of the museum, would definitely recommend a membership to the the Museum.
"Art"
It's alright.
Inspirational arts.
Nice ????????
Give it time.... It will be a gem of the city
Hardly consider this a museum experience, building looks nice from outside but only parts of 2 floors are open. Done in under 30 minutes. And you're on the hook for $10 parking.
Exhibits felt a little lackluster. Price of entry to what was shown was not a good value.
Great start! The monthly community offer is a great way to get hooked. If you can get s free tour it's worthwhile. Wish there was more.
Great new start for MOCA in a beautiful space.
Entertaining and interactive
It's very interesting place for people who like contemporary art; however, it has so little exhibits that it made me feel disappointed.
Literally a 4 piece show that last 10 minutes. Wouldn't recommend coming all the way down here
Underwhelming.. didn't seem like they were properly prepared for the grand opening.
Wonderful museum in a great area! I've already really loved MOCA was bummed when their Queen street location had to close down. The new location is BEAUTIFUL! They did a great job of keeping both the industrial heritage of the building in tact and modernizing it as a museum. They always have interesting shows/installations happening and at $10.00 an adult you get a lot of brain food for your buck. The cafe is next level. Forno Cultura did right by having a lot of wonderful to go/eat in options and a super unique pantry section. Grab some cheese, oil, and wine after your trip and you're set for the night! Culture yo' self! You deserve it So ya if you wanna feel bougie without the bank hit up MOCA.
With 1 dead tree and a basic virtual reality set-up (1 person at a time, with just a handful of people in the room there was a 35 mins waiting time) this is hardly a museum. Not worth the 10 CAD.
Half empty, The "art" in the other half is hollow and meaningless, nothing worth a second look. Paid 10 dollars, and I got the experience like eating a fly.
affordable student price ($5), crispy galleries in a beautiful historic building, and forno cultura (excellent coffee and italian treats) in the lobby. not a huge gallery (usually about 4-5 exhibits) and a little bit out of the way, but worth the price.
Very cool multistorey art exhibit. Can't wait to see what cool things happen here!
As a Torontonian who recently moved back from New York City, I love MOCA-Toronto and welcome this fresh, new addition to the Canadian arts community!
This is a great addition to the neighbourhood offering an an accessible activity that everyone can join. There’s free lockers to store your belongings. One Sunday per month there’s free admission. It was a little busy when I visited, assuming because of free admission. The exhibit spaces are small so it doesn’t take long to visit. There’s a few activities for children available; check the website for details and schedules.
It was free (sept 22 2018) and 90% of the displays were at high school level art. I did buy a photographers print and it would have been nice if someone was honest with the artist that should not be there (weird violent short films).
nice place and growing in attractions. new cafe downstairs nice food
It’s not bad. It’s a good space but there not much in the way of exhibits.
Great building in terms of architecture. Seriously lacking pieces of art/exhibits to enjoy. Also has a lovely cafe on the ground floor.
Bit disappointing really, only 3 floors were open ground floor was not ready new installation in progress, third floor only 2 video exhibits and second floor another video exhibit, so the whole museum only three installations!
The new mocca finally opened. The space is much bigger than the one that used to be at Queen and Shaw. I believe there are five doors open as gallery space. Some of the floors aren't as big as you'd think from the entrance. I like contemporary art. I guess we'll see if they can continue having interesting shows an exhibitions.
A beautiful building and a strong curatorial project for the first exhibition. It is worthy to see and to enjoy a tour on the junction triangle neighborhood.
Great new museum for Toronto.
Good spot but would like more to see! I know it is still in its early stages.
Breath of fresh air in an old industrial setting.
A good little museum to offer the contemporary art from lesser-known artists that do not make it to the curation of bigger platforms (such as ROM or AGO). I enjoyed much of the material there, and found the workers to be very open and communicative. The museum's floor space is surprisingly compact, and there is not too much space across all the three utilised levels. I had the pleasure to see the GTA 21 exhibit, and would have to say it left a little to be desired: the composition seems slightly hectic, with themes changing rapidly; most importantly, the exponents subjectively lack context (just plaques with. explanations and background info would suffice) and are not always there to be interpreted. The museum's location is quite awkward: it is not very distant from the subway, however pedestrian zones are non-existent, and the museum certainly is not accessible for people in wheelchairs. Driving in is the answer, however at peak times parking could be a problem. Overall, worth a visit if time allows.
Why this place even exist in Toronto. There was literally nothing inside
Never again. I'd sooner watch re-runs of Mariah Carey in Glitter.
Excellent place.
Excellent.
The area where it was, did not give it a very good appearance. The third floor was boring and there was very little to see. The only “interesting” area was the gift shop. If you’re +18, I would recommend not going, because you’d sooner find out you were wasting $20. Only go there if you’re under 18. It’s better to waste your time that your money!
I loved my experience at the Museum. The value for the money paid for the ticket is totally worth it. We got to explore 3 floors worth of exhibits. The exhibits were thought provoking and wonderfully made. Will definitely be back again for more.
Great place with an exelent exhibition. I went to see exhibition #ageofyou it felt like being trapped inside internet but wait... I think we are.... Also little book store downstairs and a fancy coffee shop. I enjoyed my visit.
Great place with an exelent exhibition. I went to see exhibition #ageofyou it felt like being trapped inside internet but wait... I think we are.... Also little book store downstairs and a fancy coffee shop. I enjoyed my visit.
Two stars just for the washroom at the first floor. Hopefully, it will get better.
Not much art yet, but the district is worth a visit
Not very much to describe really. They need a massive influx of money, art donations to make it a viable museum. I honestly expected a "big city" experience since Toronto is supposed to be a world class city. The Cafe, IL Forno, not a part of the museum, but housed there, had excellent, quality food and staff. One caviot :Tables a bit rocky, so hang onto your coffee, especially if you have tots with your party.
Not too big and I didn’t find it really interesting, but if you have a free day, you can spend it here.
New gallery in a lovely space. We got a membership which cost $90 for the year. Looking forward to the shows.
Good to see Toronto is working on its are scenes. However, Toronto has a long way to go. The space is good. The old industrial buildings are perfect to be converted into art galleries. The exhibition is very small. There are a few interesting pieces to look at, not a lot. One can finish the whole gallery in half an hour if you want to rush it. I hope this is only the beginning and the museum will grow into something really sophisticated.
Has a more community-based vitality than the conventional temples of art. The directorship has a distinctive vision.
Please dont trust in the hours closed, it says that the close at 9pm we came today at 3 pm and we didnt even finished the whole tour and the announce that the are closed already 5.20pm Dont waste your time.
Love this place!
Good place to go when you like to see some creative art within a short time, which worked out fine with me. But didn't have much to see in other words. Hope they had some more stuffs like paintings and sculptures..
Interesting. I'm wondering how some of the exhibits get funded though....
A hidden gem in the city. Love the cafe and the galleries.
MOCA dwells inside of such an amazing historical building, so visiting the place itself is already an incredible experience. The first floor is open to the public all year long completely free and there's a space on the south wing of the building that has huge foam blocks with different shapes and sizes that children and adults can play with, creating shaker like structures, bridges or even small towers! The second, third and fourth floors get different interesting expositions, including different disciplines from photography to Virtual reality experiences. So there's something really appealing for everyone that visit the museum.
Contemporary defined.
I enjoyed the walk up the stairs. For Doors Open Toronto 2018 there was no artwork presented in the new location, so it was sparse and spacious. I rather liked that. The stairs were lovely. They were quite cool on a warm spring day.
Not a huge collection of art, but rather 3 floors that each have a large scal exhibit by one artist. Not what I was expecting, but the installations are interesting if you’re into very modern art
Visited to see my sister's exhibition. Spacious and well organized ????
Not officially open yet but really excited as the building is a perfect canvas for a contemporary art museum.
I loved Age of you. It presents a somewhat pesimistic point of view, but it makes you feel and think a lot about our modern life
absolutely amazing. it might be hard to locate the first time you go there, but the heritage building really stands out (literally). check out the exhibits... there might be some time in between major stuff when there is not that much stuff to see, but it is usually cheaper during these periods. the current exhibit is really awesome, but it is ending soon (like January 5th or something).
Not (yet) an extensive gallery but an attractive and engaging space in a repurposed factory with a few well chosen exhibits. Mark Dion's "The Life of a Dead Tree" is particularly fascinating, a unique blend of science and art. Try to visit Thursday-Sunday when there is a researcher in residence who will be happy to guide you and answer any questions.
Thought provoking images and art expos
3 floors and there wasn't much to see unfortunately. The café had delicious desserts.
Small exhibits. Venue staff are unaccommodating.
Beautiful building. Went there for the opening of the museum. Totally loved it.
So much potential for this space but my friends and I were done looking at the four floors of exhibits in under half an hour. Good thing we came on a free admission Sunday. So sparse on art, a lot of TINY font on tiny signs printed on 8.5 x 11 paper pinned onto a wall. It felt very unplanned and cheaply put together. It’s not far from downtown Toronto but it feels like a bit of a trek to get out to this industrial area only to be done so quickly. $10 for 2hr parking (you definitely won’t need more!), and (on a regular day) $10 for admission. The Toronto contemporary/modern art scene is so much more than what little is shown here. So. Much. Potential. For. More.
Still very new but lots of potential.
Basically a giant window with beautiful wood aesthetics. Lots of artist hang out there... of course.
This is a fantastic place to see contemporary arts at its full. The artists are actively working on their project while the welcome museum visitors to enjoy the collections. I really liked the atmosphere and I found the space to be very welcoming. Also, the entrance fee was really reasonable. This place is highly recommended if you care about contemporary art. :)
Nice space with some interesting art
5 floors of cool interactive modern art.
Art has never been a huge interest of mine. The entire exhibit can be seen in about an hour. Many of the exhibits are very abstract, there are staff there to explain. The snack bar on the first floor is the highlight. Limited parking in the area. Would not make the trip to see the exhibits. But as they say are is in the eye of the beholder.
Limited exhibits, I was a bit disappointed about this. it can be seen in an hour
Some exhibits were somewhat interesting. I'm hoping future pieces with impress me more.
Art was weird. It was a free Sunday that I went. Left in 15 minutes and had brunch at the Drake across the building instead. Lol.
Paid $10 to see a life of a dead tree! That’s it. It is a shame for Toronto to call this MOCA. Even the shop was a joke. Please get serious!!!
Great space, wasn't sure about the location at first, but they have done something really neat with the space
Great space and really friendly atmosphere and staff. This place had a lot of potential as the building is beautiful. Neighborhood is fantastic as well.
Great space with contemporary art in a wide range of mediums. The current exhibit has some painting, photography, and sculpture but also includes works which utilize mixed media and interactivity. The museum occupies several floors and I recommend taking the stairs if you can. There's a restaurant on the main floor but there is also a brewery and a coffee roastery nearby.
Says it will open September 22. Hopefully it doesnt get pushed back again but im really excited for it.
Super! A must visit every now and then
the gift shop on the first floor is filled with cool art books and other items and the building itself has a very industrial charm
It was a blast - G kids had fun on boxes
wow I'd rather accidentally see my parents naked than visit this gallery again. If you have to read 4 paragraphs to understand what an art installation is about then I don't think it's art. This gallery sums up exactly what's wrong with contemporary art today. It caters to the same crowd as high fashion. This place reeks of the same snobbery. Where is art that is actually interesting to look at? Is an Ikea furniture installation art? I don't think so. Are 4 video screens in a dark room with a train noise? You can certainly go ahead and spend your money visiting here. I just think it's sad waste of money and space. There is absolutely nothing appealing about this gallery other than the tasty treats on the main floor? wait was that an art installation as well? I'm not sure. This gallery reminds me of the first time I had sex. There was the anticipation of it being amazing. Then the actual realization that it was over before it began. Welcome to the new Toronto Contemporary Art Gallery.
Kinda mediocre, due to lack of permanent exhibits. I’ll visit again some other time and see if it’s any better.
This museum is a bad joke !
Very small museum. The exhibition was great, but I think Toronto deserves better for contemporary art.
Wonderful addition to the community, really worth it depending on which exhibit interests you.
Literally feels like an empty warehouse with no art. I went to design school and felt like even the first years could do better.
The pieces and installatios on show were interesting. It's more an Expo rather than a Museum! Don't expect to be able to spend more than 2 hours there.
I did not choose art, it chose me!
Great art. Friday night is free which was a nice bonus. Great building design and space.
Poor exhibitions
Beautiful heritage building, the home of contemporary art in Toronto. Innovative exhibitions and events, always an array of things happening!
Finally it is open again! New location is massive and great atmosphere. The exhibits have always been well-curated and the new location adds so many possibilities.
Great exhibit and free the last Sunday in the month.
There was a bit of renovation when I visited. I enjoyed the special event with the theatre group
Currently not open yet but the building architecture outside and inside is very nice. Will be a god spot once opened.
Great!
Be careful and check before going what are/is the temporary exhibition(s). Unfortunately, when we went there was a « dead tree » and « neighbourhood open shop » exhibition. We paid 10$ per adult for nearly nothing, it is really small... and we stay 15 minutes in the « museum ». We asked the information person but there were the only pieces of art to see. We understand this is contemporary and we like contemporary art and visit a lot a contemporary art museums in Europe but this wasn’t a museum of contemporary art, definitely not a museum! We do not recommend this place. Or go just to enjoy a coffee on the ground floor :)
Age Of You we an amazing exhibi!
Such a great experience in general being able to attend this museum, learned a lot about art. Took a higher level of appreciation for art after going here. Had a blast.
The artwork is amazing but it was advertises three floors and I would say that it’s only two floors extremely friendly staff and the little café is great with a wide selection
The building and space inside is nice, not the classic museum and decoration, all the ambient is according or adoc for the contemporary art exhibition. From outside looks bigger but actually you can finish to visit all floor exhibitions very fast. Didn't love any of the artistic proposals but I'm always open to see new things and learn from everybody who have something to say to any mortal. The shop is really small but you can find nice souvenirs or few good books. Coffee area looks nice and wanted to try but was more busy than the museum, better went for a beer in the Brewery just beside.
Amazing! Laws of motion in a cartoon landscape is a must!
Instead of leaving inspired, we were left confused.
Interesting place recently opened. In an up-and-coming trendy area of the city. We only went in on the ground floor. Apparently there are two other floors for the exhibition spaces. There is a cafe and a place to sit and have a drink. look forward to this place becoming more important on the Toronto art scene.
I don’t get it. Five stars.
Disappointing! Got to see a dead tree. Do not call it an art museum if the intention is to house studios and space for budding artists.
Nothing here to see. Waste of time and money.
Great place
Really cool museum! Affordable admission for all ages and is offering light therapy at the moment. Super cool, come check it out!
The transition to Sterling Road is finally complete, and Toronto's MACA opened with pizzazz this weekend. The building is capacious and a fine update to the old warehouse. The opening exhibits were not to my taste, but I really liked the artist spaces that have been allocated on the 4th(?) floor. Nice to have you operating once again MACA!!!
Interesting & sometimes challenging exhibits, perhaps needs a more mature attitude to the subjects. Great cafe
Fantastic building and fascinating exhibits
empty building with nothing, waste my time and gas
Very unique place to visit. Always inspiring.
We need more of this type of thing in the city. We all must work together and support post covid
Can’t wait for the opening!
I was at the opening of this museum and my partner and I went again a couple of weeks ago. Thé café on thé first floor of the museum may actually be the most exciting part of it ! On my last visit there was only 1 exhibit open all of which took 5-10 mins to experience . we were both shocked and disappointed . Would not recommend the visit . Perhaps when the museum has more exhibits it would attract more people coming . I will come back in a few years time, hopefully by then they will have more art ....
Very contemporary. Liked artist interactions.
Arttart
So disappointed by this empty gallery, definetely not worth the 10$ entrance fees. Need to improve, bring more art in this nice building
Amazing art!
I was expecting more.
This is a nice gallery. It's a bit small but tickets are priced accordingly. I don't know I'd go out of my way for it but it was nice to see the kind of contemporary art that isn't always offered at the AGO.
Nice but new. I will give them time to grow and check out next year. Only one real exhibit.
Very bad experience with the ticket payment. Nevertheless, Banksy exhibition was awesome!! Despite one bad contact with the ticket lady, we were very happy.
Great museum. Exhibitions that are varied and always super interesting. Tons of fun for kids- interactive and welcoming. Beautifully created space in a historic building, a new gem of a space in the Toronto arts and culture scene.
Fantastic way to speand your day. Great building great staff.
The curator exhibit was too pretentious, can't recommend based on that alone. Will revisit for another exhibit.
Admission fee is too much for just a few pieces of art. You can walk through all the exhibitions within 10 mins.
Big building with nothing in it. I've been twice, once when they opened and they had maybe around 20 pieces of art. It only took 30 minutes to traverse the thing and I was already feeling a little let down. Then I went back a second time a year later and they only had to video installations. TWO FOR THE ENTIRE BUILDING. Their excuse was that they were between exhibits or something, and so they operated on a pay what you can basis. Still the money we paid was not worth it. I have more art in my living room than they had in the entire public building. What makes things more insulting is I know they house plenty of young, likely struggling, artists' studios on the top floor. I'm sure there are pieces up there that those artists would love to display but instead of putting them up and doing something to further the stagnant Canadian art scene and economy the "Museum of Contemporary Art" opted to exhibit their bland dystopian grey industrial walls. A parking block comes to mind. Summed up: Fill the walls with art if you're going to call your business a museum. No one wants to pay to look at the boring architecture.
All new and a great cafe bakery coming soon!
Cool place. Went on a discount day. Lots of little kids running around. Still i enjoyed the art.
The beautiful new home of MOCA.
A must for any Torontonian and visitor. MOCA is a world class modern art gallery. A fabulous place to explore and experience the creative. The onsite cafe is amazing.
Really for 10 dollars I got ripped off . Granted the tree is interesting but not art. This place has zero appeal to and if tax payers are flipping the bill then no wonder. Honestly going to write a letter and article as this place should have more than crafts to buy and things to climb on. Really I felt ripped off and suggest going to local galleries instead. Like most galleries this place is pretty elite or Uninspiring to artist and creative individuals like myself.
This museum is in an absolutely amazing heritage building, and the work on display is always interesting and relevant. They have some excellent talks and other events.
Interesting exhibits. Felt rather sparse and would have like to have seen more.
The place is nice and the staff members are very friendly; However, when you guys have different events posted in different social medias with different schedule, and then you guys have your website or Infront desk or whatever with the events with a different schedule is confusing and frustrating all of us. Can you please make sure that for every events presented here has the right information on every social media platform including your website. Thank you.
Great place very knowledgeable and helpful.
I have seen better places
When we went it was PWYC and there was only one floor with an exhibit. Parking is definitely a nightmare in the area as well so it’s best to try to Uber it so you won’t have to worry about driving around in circles. I would try to find out how many exhibits they have opened before going as well! Other than that, the art was beautiful and very interactive.
Impressive
Art knows no boundaries, follows no rules. Even though I've never been an art person, I enjoyed it!
Great art museum, always has something interesting to go and see, going to the great cafe in the lobby after a visit always makes it a good trip.
Premiere was very promising. Quality of work decreased somewhat as floors were ascended. Venue is amazing. Will be checking in again.
Nice space. Friendly. In interesting district
It should be called the museum of contemporary videos.
Snooze-fest ????????. I guess this is the best Toronto can do when it comes to contemporary art. Also, who thought a hotel vibe with ten floors would make a good gallery space? Go to The Powerplant. It’s free. The space is great. The exhibitions are relevant. Or, go on a 15-minute walk north, and visit Arsenal!
Must visit atleast once for all you art lovers
Went to the opening, but not much stuff there, in terms of exhibitions and permanent collections are still at a baby level, comparing with other contemporary art museums in big cities around the world. I might not call it a mesuem. Quite disappointed when you had to drive there for the grand opening but not much to see. We paid for 2 hours parking but it only took us less than 30 minutes to finish the whole thing and left
What a waste of time. At least we went during the free admition time on Sunday so only time and gas were lost.
I am not sure why the museum is even open and asking for donations are asking you to pay for tickets, there is nothing to see- I wasted $20 for nothing!!!!, there is a display on the first floor - that you could see without paying - we were told there was a display on the 4th floor - but that was a lie. There is nothing on the 4th floor but stuff for sale and its poor quality. It was a waste of time to go. You can't even go to the top of the building to see the view. As much as we were told to come back when more exhibition space is open - I won't be coming back and will be telling people not to go. I had higher expectations based on all the publicity, They were wrong.
Art Art Art Think
It is smaller than I thought it would be, but worth checking out if you're in the west end
Different than the usual tourist things to do in Toronto, would go again when there are more exhibits, but the good thing is it was pwyc for admission
Great start. Looking forward to more exhibits
Great coffee shop accessible to the public
Cool Light therapy room. Welcoming space and friendly staff.
Historical building, Amazing Arts and well educated and hard working staff, specially facility Manager and executive director of Moca Museum.
Menacingly beautiful
Nice historical place
Interesting art in a very old building
If you like overly complicated hipster art then this is for you.
Don't waste your time.
There’s really not much going on here while they’re renovating. Only 2-3 exhibits (and each only one work), none very exciting. I’m sure it’ll be great in February, but for now? Skip it.
Nice zoo. Its better to come with your family and friends
