What a fabulous place! Well worth the drive out into Halton County woods. Riding the electric train into the forest was a definite highlight of our visit. Lots of shade on site, with many picnic tables. Enormous barn full of retired radial and other railway cars: many were open to climb inside. It felt like stepping back in time. Highly recommended.

Anastasiya Pozdnyakova

Was met by a group of old HSR trolleybuses rusting away in the parking lot under the sky.

Excellent collection of Railway Museum pieces pertaining to the Toronto and area radial Railway. Nice for a family outing, and the staff (mostly volunteers) we're very friendly and helpful even though the season had not yet started. Cell phone reception may be spotty.

Adam & Ester Reid

Such a hidden gem! Great for kids and grown ups alike.

We went in December on one of the two special Saturday event days. Very fun Christmas experience for families with small children or train obsessed people! They run streetcars along the track every 20 minutes, with Santa on board and song sheets for the passengers to all sing carols. There are Christmas decorations along the route. There warehouse of other train, subway and street cars and buses is fun to explore, but not climate controlled and as cold as outside. They were selling food, holiday treats and some cider, and some live music was happening in the station building. There are lots of fun areas for kids to explore. Change table available in women's washroom. Gift shop with all kinds of train paraphernalia. Volunteers know a lot about their museum! Worth the drive!

William K. Jennings

This place is a hidden treasure! Where else can you turn back time and take an old train or streetcar through the forest. 10/10. So great. Limited opening times so check before you go. Great Christmas and Halloween themed activities. Very immersive. Worth the drive for something different

Wonderful! A treasure trove of old railway cars and history.

Historical an great for kids.

Jim Van Meggelen

This is a remarkable place. Dozens of streetcars and radial-railway vehicles, maintained lovingly, in a beautiful setting. If you have any interest in old TTC stuff, this is about as close to a TTC museum as you're going to see. On any given day they'll usually have several vehicles in operation, and yes, your admission fee includes unlimited rides through the forest. Bring the kids, or just your own inner-kid.

My cousin came from USA and we decided to visit this place with his kids, we really enjoyed it, it’s 5 mins north of Hwy 401, lots of parking was there, we ride the train with their kids, the ride was beautiful it has two stations. Then we went to see museum and IAN the guide there was amazing he told us the complete history of train industry in canada, from the beginning to now how the toronto transit and street cars developed. We really enjoyed visiting this place we spent about 5 hours there and we will definitely visit again and we definitely recommend everyone to visit this places

Had an awesome time. 2 year old had a blast riding the street cars. Not a huge place; but lots to see and do.

C. Alex Ellacott

Volunteer run museum, interesting bits of history!

Ben Feng

Such a hidden gem in this area. My son is a huge fan of trains, and this museum has everything he wants. This museum is completely run by volunteers, so the decorations aren't fancy. But you can certainly feel the history of Toronto street cars everywhere on this site.

Catherine Shum

We had a blast with my 5 and 2 year old here. The train ride was comfortable and scenic. Love how they decorated an old street car into an ice cream shop. Folks here are very friendly and passionate about their job. Comfortable cafeteria with a train table to keep little ones entertained while we enjoy our $5 hot dog meal which includes drink and chips

Wow. This place seems impossible and is so worth the visit for any rail buff, history buff, or just a great way to spend an afternoon. It is volunteer run and where else could you imagine that enthusiastic people could have made working …

Excellent day out for everyone!

Peter D. Townshend

We go here almost every Sunday with our 4 year old and 5 year old, and they love it everytime! Word of warning though, don't bring young kids to the haunted house that they set up around Halloween. While everything else about this place is great for young kids, the haunted house is not, at all. Our kids didn't stop crying for over 20 minutes.

Bart Rybarczyk

Awesome place to go for kids. Worth every penny. I had great time with my son. He loved it. Stuff was awesome. I've been told they are open for Halloween and Christmas. Beautiful scenery. Rides are included in admission price. This place is highly recommended!

Devin (Warder1701)

I wish I had known this place existed before. Too bad covid limits some of what these folks can do but its s absolutely worth a visit or three. Kudos to all of the volunteers.

Lots of very good fun! They've restored streetcars beautifully, and the rides were worth it, as well as the static exhibits. Excellent way to spend a (summer) day if you've visited many of the places around the GTA. Prices aren't ridiculous, and having an ice cream at their streetcar ice cream shop on a summer day was worth it. Admission isn't inaccessibly expensive either!

Bariah K

Experience these beautiful relics in a scenic setting. The street cars were interesting and romantic. Unfortunately the ageing drivers are also from a bygone era, which can add to an amazing experience depending on who you are. Too bad they didn't feel we were good enough. I mean what old timer wants immigrant types from the inner city hanging around their beloved historical symbols of culture and engineering right? Despite their poor attitude, I found it comforting though, that like those old, dying, long gone locomotives, these attitudes are also hopefully on their way out. Living in the big city, commuting on the new versions everyday with thousands of people, I find empathy and acceptance on most days. The world and its history is a lot bigger than the minds of its inhabitants. Thankfully.

Evan Wang

This is a very nice railway museum with a lot of streetcar collections which are well restored, the staff here are also very nice, they are willing to chat so they taught me a lot of streetcar history. The streetcar ride is also very nice, it's just like a time machine that take you back to 1920s, I love it.

Anil Sharma

Just came back from Starlight and Ice Cream, kids and friends had a blast, can't wait for next year. It's a small operation, but a nice little getaway from the daily grind.

A lot of fun to ride the train and the museum is quite interesting! Loved seeing the old Subway and Streetcar wagons. Plus they have a little ice-cream cafe at the end of the train ride! Very cute!

Hooman Rowshanbin

My kids love streetcars, so we come here every year. Only place where you can take a streetcar though the forest and buy ice cream in a streetcar. The place is built and run by retired TTC drivers, so lots of interesting facts and history here. Even has a big garage full of old subway trains you can go inside and explore.

A fantastic museum featuring many historical streetcars from Toronto and around North America. It's a great nostalgic trip for anyone who can remember when some of these streetcars were in service. Great for kids too, with regular rides around the short track. Staff are very friendly and amiable to questions and conversation. During COVID, just check opening hours and pre-book tickets online. Highly recommend!

JD Winkler

What a great place... the staff were very friendy.

Amit

This a really fun destination for kids, as they will see all the old streetcars and subways, and get to walk through them. It's a trip down memory lane for older adults too. And there's a fun ride you get to take on an old streetcar with a stop you can make for ice cream. Suggestion is to couple this trip with The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (a 20 minute drive), and you have the perfect day trip from nearby cities (Toronto).

They also have toys like model trains etc. Cool place for kids and rail enthusiasts to spend an afternoon.

Roger Pier

My family and I enjoyed this place. The exhibits are bigger than expected. Looking forward to going again.

DEAN BEATTIE

A cool experience and definitely a must-see. We always wanted to check it out and finally did. Great family experience. It would have been nice to get on and off the street cars at the stops though. Not being able to due to covid makes zero sense at this point.

This small museum was an unexpected treat. My wife l, baby and I visited randomly looking for a fun rest stop along the way of our journey. We were treated to a nice sized collection of TTC Streetcars and Subway Trains. There was even a working streetcar that you can ride along a section of track that loops through the forest (included in price of admission). I would recommend this museum for families and for aduts that appreciate history. The employees and volunteers were very friendly and offered a lot of facts and stories about the history of the museum and it's collection. I would visit again. It's good for at least 3-4 hours of entertainment and exploring. It costs roughly 15$ per person, there are family passes for repeat visits, there is a gift shop, an ice cream stand in a old Streetcar, the washrooms have baby changing tables, parking is free. If you are retired and have time on you hands they are always looking for volunteers. Not your typical museum but worth the price of admission.

Amie Melnychuk

Had a wonderful afternoon here with my two grandsons, aged 3 and 1. They loved the trains and the volunteers who run the museum are really engaged.

Good place to vizit with kids!

Anyone who loves old time transit, and who doesn't, will find this living museum fascinating. There are always 3 electrically powered vehicles making regular trips around the 2 Km track. All are painstakingly restored. Lots of memorabilia and souvenirs are available.

RailwayCityRails

Overall, it was a nice experience (myself being a train enthusiast). The staff are friendly and will happy to answer your questions. Roughly half of the rolling stock on display was open to the public, and the other half was deemed unsafe and therefore not open. The museum barn features mostly streetcars, however there is a wooden Canadian Pacific caboose that you can explore. There is also one interactive railroad crossing signal display that i'm sure the kids would get a kick out of. Please note that certain pieces in the collection are stored in the "Restoration Barn" in which the public are not allowed into. The green "L&PS 8" car shown in one of my photos is one of these pieces. Outside of the museum barn are several boxcars, and two streetcars you can take rides in. The ride itself is what took away the one star from my review. While riding along the 2km of track, I must've gotten at least five or six mosquito bites. No where on the website did it state to bring bug spray, as the conductor mentioned he did. Now with that out of the way, the ride was fairly scenic with mostly just trees on each side. The museum gift shop features a wide selection of souvenirs both for the kids and adults. The museum also features a model railway inside of one of their boxcars. A nice experience for the average railfan or for the family. BRING BUG SPRAY!

This place has been doing a great job maintaining historical street cars and trains for decades. I have great memories of riding the trains there as a child, and now I have an opportunity to share that experience with my own son. I am happy to support the museum in the hopes that they can keep up the good work for years to come!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and riding the trains, trolleys and streetcars! Especially our visit to the coolest streetcar that serves ice cream in the rear of the car! Yummy! Such a fun experience and learned a lot of history. Would highly recommend and we will visit again in the near future.

Darrell Lafave

Have driven past the front gates to this museum many times with the intention of visiting and finally got around to it. We were not disappointed. Excellent place to bring the kids (both young and old). Super kid-friendly and I was shocked at how CLEAN AND NEAT the grounds/trains & stock yards are (considering other venues of similar ilk that I've visited in the past were nowhere near as tidy as this). The staff/volunteers on site are true lovers of trains and streetcars and it is obviously reflected in everything they do. Several days have passed since our visit and we're still talking about it. We most certainly will be returning to visit once again in the near future.

Great day out from Milton

Herman Padham

This place is great. My 2 year old loved the street car rides. Only draw back is he naps a good chunk of their opening times so we didn't have enough time to spend check it all out so will definitely be coming back. The only downside was I was hoping to pick up a diecast/large plastic train but they have completely run out (which is a good thing for the museum since I want them to stay in business). The volunteers have lots of knowledge. Keep up the great work.

This is an excellent small-scale Trolley Museum just south of Guelph Ontario. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The displays that they have are great reminder from the past trolley experience people of Toronto and other cities got to enjoy. Their effort to restore and recondition these trolleys on a volunteer basis speaks of the love these people have for these vehicles. The woodwork and cushions on the seats speak highly of the great Craftsman that built these machines years ago. You can spend several hours here and enjoy both the small trolley ride and visit the car barns and view some of the great trolleys that they have.

I enjoyed this far more than anticipated! The staff are very passionate about their work and the facilities, and it really enhances the atmosphere. The barn where the street cars, buses, subway cars, and train cars are stored is very nicely laid out and interactive. The side where you can wonder through several subway and train cars all connected by small bridges was particularly enjoyable! Some vehicles you cannot fully enter but mostly they are beautifully restored. Great lighting inside these cars makes for some nice photos. There are two full size street cars, one more enclosed and one very open, that run on tracks that go into a wooded area. At the "end of the line" is an ice cream shop in an old street car and a pond with water lilies and frogs. All in all, worth the price of admission! Will be visiting again. Hoping to check check out the Halloween event in October.

It brings a sense of nostalgia visiting this place. You are litteraly stepping back in time, you ride an 100 year old train to the forest, stop for ice cream go for a walk and get back on and start your journey again. The Conductors that operate the train have more knowledge than Google about the trains they run and the museum is amazing. My kids (6 of them) love it and we go at least once a year. Even if it's raining you can have a great experience. It actually rained the last time we went and it was cool to ride the rails in the pouring rain. Definitely recommend!

Amazing place to visit. Children love streetcar rides. On a good day you can ride 3 or more different streetcars. There is more streetcars, subway trains and other vehicles in the barn.

I was incredibly disappointed in the service I received from Jim Sorensen. I was trying to inquire about if they open on closed days for wedding photos. Unfortunately I do not have the most experience in booking events like this and I did not expect snyde remarks and rude comments about how my general inquiry was not good enough and did not originally contain enough information for him to spend the time dealing with me. I ended up finding on the FAQ that they do open on off days but at an increased rate which would have been fine but that was never even covered in the response from Jim, only how "As you are aware, we are NOT open on that date." Or how "Once you give me something to work with, then I can price it out, then you can decide and then, and only then, we will have to put a request out for volunteers to come in for the booking." I am sorry my simple request of do you open on an off day for pictures was so inconvenient. Added: 08/30/2019 I am aware that more information would be required when ironing out details for an event such as a wedding but lashing out at a customer for not having all the prior knowledge of all the inner working of an establishment they do not work for is laughable. The lack of effort to work through a miscommunication or misunderstanding and instead blame the customer for being wrong about everything multiple times speaks volumes to the attitude of the employee. Instead I get an email and review response telling me I'm wrong in how I believe I've been treated in this transaction. Stay Classy.

(Translated) Very cool. For those who like the theme "public transport by rail" this place is a small amusement park. The staff are very friendly and patient. Getting around old characterized trams of the time is a nice feeling. There is no wifi and in certain places in the park there is also no cell phone signal. It has a small souvenir shop and a small cafeteria. (Original) Muito legal.

Run by passionate volunteers it's fun for the whole family! They offer a train ride into the woods to an icecream car that also sells freezes for a nominal donation then you can ride another car back to the main grounds for a hotdog with snack and drink again for a small nominal donation.... we loved it and look forward to going back soon! It's also good dog friendly but no paws on the seats.

Luigi Iacobellis

This place is perfect if your kids are into trains! You can ride one of two different types of street cars, you can go inside subway cars and some streetcars and they have a bunch of little train themed playhouses. The volunteers that run it are super friendly and share so much historical knowledge about the different types of trains and streetcars. Definitely check it out

Good for family and a good picnic place

Fun, casual, laid back activity. Great for kids. They have a short train ride available that circles back to the beginning, with an optional train stop at a small ice cream shop on location. They have a train museum. Check website for hours as they're not open all year long. Note, train whistles quite loud so I wouldn't take a young baby.

Was there 3 years ago when our son was just over a year old. Yesterday we went back and it's still a great place. Learned more as they've added more cars to their tour shed. My son enjoyed it and I think we'll be back again for their Halloween and Christmas special events. Great place for kids to learn about rail cars and take a lazy ride through the woods.

A MUST VISIT!!! My son loves trains and streetcars and this was the perfect place to bring him. We loved learning about and seeing the old toronto transit commission (TTC) trains, cars and routes. Support this place because they truly maintain and house part of our Toronto heritage. The staff who run the streetcars are the real attraction, it's so amazing to hear their stories and my son's life is forever impacted for the better because now every time he rides the TTC he smiles and tells me the story of how people worked hard to make toronto the amazing city that it is through things like the TTC. Definitely a MUST VISIT!

Lost count how many times we have been here. Its a trip back in time. Rode a near 100 year old street car, then rode another near 100 year old street car around the property. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff, interesting items in the gift shop and more than ample parking. Yes there were some obstacles due to covid19, like no ice cream stop on the street car line, we weren't able to stop at the frog pond (a little disappointing for the grandson), and the high speed street car was not running (a lot disappointing for me, I've been on it before and it's a speed rocket). We took a picnic, the area was clean garbage cans available and people waving at us from the street car it was a very memorable day. They are up and running for a little bit longer try and visit it's a fun place for everyone. Only complaint is when we discovered that the town of Milton offers no consideration at all for electricity consumption costs. This is a museum, how can it not be entitled to sum sort of financial relief either at the local level or above. Just another reason to try and attend so as they can offset costs. Our grandson was not much more than a toddler when we first went and now he is becoming a young man this museum is a big part of our our most treasured memories.

They had just opened for the season so not sure how busy they get during summer months. But what they had on opening day was interesting. All the train workers are volunteers and know their passion of trains, streetcars, and trolleys. I have been with family and friends to this museum 5 times and it's highly enjoyable every time. The volunteers who run the place LOVE trains and travel history and it's infectious. Plus, there are regular tweaks and changes and all ages find something enjoyable to do each visit. The TTC subway cars retired in the 80 s and 90 s have the original advertisements for the Skydome! Great value and most highly adored and recommended by our family. Christmas on the rails was wonderful and exceeded my already high expectations.

So cool. Go check out the streetcars, the barn is full of old ones kids loved climbing into them and going for rides on the track

This is a great place to take kids. They learn about electric powered public transit and that it's not a new concept. We especially enjoyed taking the kids on the Christmas Night time ride with Santa aboard and also at the station. Not sure if this happens any longer but it's worth every penny of admission. This volunteer driven museum shows a variety of electric powered streetcars and vehicles that served the area many years ago. You can tour the garage barns where they restore these machines and see them in action by taking the short route through the woods and back to the station. Cars are changed for service periodically so you should pay them a visit more than once if possible.

Really nice place if u like trains. Once u get in u get unlimited 2 kms rides u can take a walk in the museum which has a good collection of old trains. It's a good half day trip very friendly people and knowledgeable. U can see some of the older folks brighten up. It's like they are living the dream. However like other reviews say please bring bug lotion or spray in summer. It's a real lot of mosquitoes. Overall a worthwhile place to visit.

Well..... Where to start with this little hidden treasure. First it's very amazing how much history is tied into this place. Not only local history but world history. (Not going to shed light on this you well have to go see and discover for yourself). Second thing that is special about this place is the people that make it all happen from the machinists to the operators. They have a way of bringing you back to the time when these machines operated on a daily basis, and this was the way of travel for most wether it was local travel or travelling far. Third was the ice cream streetcar, talk about wow taking me back to my childhood. The one downside that I found although they had alternatives was there was no play ground for the little tykes and tots that come to visit. But yes they had things for them as well which ill be honest was cute and very child friendly. To the Halton County Radial Museum, great amazing memories and history you create and have in this place. Thank you so much for what your doing here to keep both old machines and history itself alive and well To everyone else. Take some time to discover this place, it really is something you should enjoy

Philana Memraj

Great place for kids and adults. My 2.5 yr olds spent 4hrs here with zero meltdowns so we are definitely going back. Admission is reasonable, rides are unlimited and there are lots of little picnic areas so pack a nice lunch and come spend the day. Lots of trains to explore. Very hands on & user friendly but not stroller/wheelchair friendly. There is an ice cream shop, a basic coffee shop and a gift shop. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

This is a very fun, family oriented LIVING museum. Many antique streetcars (trams) are in the museum's collection, as well as operational ones, which take people on rides, through a forest, on a closed loop track. All of the "guides" are extremely knowledgeable about the museum and the rolling stock. Many are retired TTC operators, with first hand knowledge of the equipment and its history.

We came for Christmas on the Rails this year. First time here and it was quite the blast from the past riding all the old streetcars from the TTC while singing carols as a group. The kids enjoyed it enough that they want to come back in the summer. It was well lit up, decently organized and the volunteers running the place were very friendly. The last streetcar we were on for the night actually had its battery die and we had to be pushed back to the beginning but that kinda added to the experience so it wasn't a big deal. More fun in my opinion. I'm looking forward to checking it out in the summer!

Colin Bruce
