Nice museum to visit if you are interested in calligraphy, carpets, porcelaine and intricate carvings. It is a small museum so expect to spend 45 mins to 90 mins between the permanent collection and temporary exhibits. The building is quite nice and minimalistic and has a courtyard in the middle.

The buildings and grounds themselves are pure architectural works of art! The museums permanent collection isnt huge, but its diverse and very well laid out. It's great for people like me, who have more enthusiasm than energy cuz you can appreciate every piece they have without being tired of looking at stuff by the end of it. I went when there was a special exhibit (The Moon) and it was pretty great too! Some days they have free admission and discounted tickets for the special exhibits, which are even better prices (regular admission is pretty awesome too). The museum is really all about art and I liked learning about religion through the symbolism and motifs in the pieces! I would recommend to anyone living in Toronto and definitely to anyone visiting, so make some time for it even if your trip is short!

The museum building itself is a beautiful piece of architecture, with stunning projections, a central courtyard that is open to the sky, surrounded by full height glass walls. The museum has many rare artifacts from all over the world, which bring the rich past history to life. There is lots to see, including musical shows and dances, a theme based section that changes periodically. The in-house cafe has a choice of tasty and healthy delicacies. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out.

We had a wonderful time at Aga Khan and learned so much about Islamic culture. The architecture is magnificent! Great spot for photos as well. We took our toddler there and spent about 1.5 hours there. The building is beautiful outside as well as inside. There is a cafe, restaurant and gift shop inside. Nice place for a date.

The building itself is a work of art, stunning architecture, clean lines and beautiful simple geometry create an appealing aesthetic. Thoughtful exhibits and decent layout. Great place to educate youngsters and the young at heart about the diversity of Muslim civilizations from the past across continents and different areas of the globe. Also a great place to bring out of town visitors or spend the afternoon having a picnic in the gardens and green spaces outside. Transit accessible, wheelchair accessible, also plenty of parking, friendly staff and volunteers, overall an excellent visit.

This museum is pretty good. It must be perfect if there will be more and more items on display. I like this place and I recommend you to visit. I took lots of pics which staffs permitted. Much more things should be visited and discovered.

It’s a beautiful piece of architecture. Seeing and walking into the building was enough reason for me to visit the museum. It’s not a big museum but enough to learn, understand and appreciate the culture and history. Little bits of information is sometimes more useful for me as I can spend more time on each item. They also have activity areas which makes the museum child-friendly.

I have visited the museum twice before, both times were relativity positive experiences, minus the staff trying (and succeeding) to upsell me at the gift shop (I spent well over $100 each of those times). I visited this past week with my sister and had a horrendous experience, upon entering we were asked if we had tickets, and I said we are visiting the cafe and Bellerive room, we got a funny look, but we brushed it off.. we went to the gift shop 12 mins before closing time and asked if we could come inside... the woman at the door said in an annoyed voice "Are you actually going to buy something!?" I was absolutely stunned and caught off guard... she probably made this comment due to the racist stigma that all South Asians are cheap... seeing my reaction she jokingly said "hahaha, if you don't buy something i'll have you banned" trying to uncomfortably make light of her previous comment... I felt quite uncomfortable being in there and left. (in past visits I've bought scarves, CDs, 8 different books, coasters, key chains, bookmarks, prayer beads, and a tie) The museum is absolutely architecturally stunning.. I visit museums in every city I travel to... my particular favourite is the Met in NYC, they have an immensely large collection of artefacts from Muslim civilisations, as well as a gift shop that has items in all price ranges. architecturally, AKM is one of the finest museums I have seen, but the collection and gallery are quite underwhelming given the $20 entrance fee... I love the museum, but the staff/volunteers needs to be upgraded or trained on customer service and not generalising customers based on their racial background.

This is a very good museum, that beautifully presents its tight collection. The design of the building is beautiful, with lots of light in the lobby. The main exhibition room takes around an hour for a good look at the items. There is a lovely range of attifants from across Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Spain and India. Of particular note are the writings and drawings from 16th century Iran covering the Shahnameh.

I always want to come. The archetechical of the building & the landscape of this place are very beautiful. It is very peaceful to come and sit outside. I will definitely visit the inside of the museum. I spent too much time taking pictures outside, i will definitely come again. Strongly recommend this place

Very intriguing and interesting items of Muslim cultures on display in the museum, and also some hands on activities available inside the exhibits. The architecture of the building is also a wondernof it's own. Also, the moon exhibit is very interesting. Took me about 1.5 hours to tour, but if you want to see everything it'll take around 2-2.5 hours. Never a bad time to visit this museum, would definitely recommend.

Only complaint is that the size of the museum is a little small considering the price ($20 for adults, $12 for students before Presto discount). A beautiful building housing an outstanding collection of art and artifacts that helps visitors to.explore new perspectives on Islamic civilization. Well curated and with a great array of audio tours available on your mobile device (don't forget your headphones or earbuds). I like the fact that photography was permitted (without flash please!) I enjoy being able to take a photograph of interesting pieces so that I can study them after my visit. My visit left me wishing that I read Arabic, as so many of the pieces have beautiful calligraphy. Many pieces are from the Quran and also from pieces of great Islamic literature. Beautiful works of illuminated manuscripts and other artwork abound.

The museum is great and they change the items every now and then so every time you go you expect to see new things. Very educational as well. I have been attending many events in Agha Khan Museum as well, such as Sufi Whirling dervishes, Persian music by Rumi Canada, and Turkish musics. Over all its a great place that supports artists. A delightful snowy Saturday afternoon spent at the Museum. We went for the Hidden Stories of the Silk Roads exhibition, but stayed for the permanent collection and an interesting "Middle Eastern" lunch at the Diwan restaurant, a pleasurable experience from start to finish. There's a lovely community feel to the place despite the elegant but somewhat austere architecture, enhanced by live music performances and a very welcome cup of complimentary mint tea in the lobby.

The best place to visit with school going kids, friends and family. Best place for family, corporate and business dinners. They have lots of parking space and the Museum itself is a great logo of architecture and the out side is full of flowers and lakes.

Agha Khan museum has done a fantastic job in preserving and curating Islamic history. the temporary and standard exhibits are worth paying a visit. the architecture of the building also borrows from the rich Islamic tradition. it's a serene experience everytime i visit.

Excellent piece and history. Some activities for children. Temporary exhibits are usually there for awhile. Therefore, depends when u go, there will be different things showcasing. Coat check is for free and there's little cafeteria. But be prepared to pay $5 for a cookie. The gift shop have wonderful items but I believe some items are extremely overpriced. And there's a posh restaurant name Diwan with a changing menu but give u the experience of Africa and the Middle East in the taste of your food.

The museum is an architectural marvel All the artefacts and pieces are carefully placed along with their history mentioned, definitely recommend to get one of the guides to show you around. You really get to know about Islamic history over time. Parking is a little expensive at $10 regardless of time spent there ( they have both overground and basement parking)

An interesting museum with a beautiful building and park. The museum features various Muslim works that you won't find in the ROM or other museums. It's a bit accessible through transit, but with the building of the Crosstown access to the museum will get easier. It is also a small museum but I can't complain since it was free admission when I went.

Amazing museum with some exhibitions about Muslim culture among others. Right now there's a good exhibition about the moon and it influence with several cultures and religions. The architecture of the building is wonderful

This museum has well-curated items with no fillers. I was surprised to see so many extremely rare items where there are only a few in the world. The presentation is wonderful with extra space around each item. I did find the lighting was darker than I would have preferred to see some items but that is a quibble. The tour was very well done by a knowledgeable person who gave many extra insights. We went to the restaurant as well and the food was very good.

Went there on a Monday, but this museum closes on this day. Just saw the outside garden and front, very well maintained, showing respect for the muslin community. Seems to be a great place to visit and learn a lot more about this fascinating ancient culture. Hope I can go again in the future.

Visited this beautiful museum for Doors Open. This complex is world class. The park outside invites you to linger and gaze at the perfect infinity fountain pools. Inside holds a tremendous amount of thought provoking detail. Each piece of the collection is refined, with its own story.

Not what I’d call the “#1 reason to visit Toronto” (as Lonely Planet has claimed) but certainly a place providing a small (and relatively pricey) taste of Islamic culture, the museum is a beautiful building to behold from the outside but inside it is filled with few artifacts that are laid out rather unimaginatively. Free entrance 4-8pm Wednesdays (incl an extra guided tour at 630pm). Lots of programming and what looks to be a good restaurant (now open for dinner on Wednesdays) in Diwan.

One of the fascinating experience in the museum of Islamic Art. Exposition is incredible and includes treasures of Ottoman, Persian, indian and Central Asian regions. Some of the art pieces were borrowed from Louvre museum. They also providing concerts, social and private events. Light show were available in December, 2018. There are souvenir store, restaurant, coatcheck and parking.

I reviewed the Aga Khan Museum a few days ago and they removed my review. There was nothing offensive in my review just the truth about my visit and not being allowed to take pictures of the gardens or notify the guest that they would not be able to take picture of the garden because of wedding. The gardens are open to the public but I was kicked out for wanting to take personal images that would not be used for anything other than a memory for me. I paid to go to the museum and was rudely kicked off the grounds. I emailed the museum and not even an apology that I had a bad experience was given. If you want a private event to stay private, don't allow access to anyone else. Further, the second flow exhibit was underwhelming given the $20 admission fee.

The building alone is a gorgeous piece of architecture. The collection is from all over the Islamic influenced regions is Asia, Europe and Africa. It's very educational if you want to more and be able to distinguish Arabic, Persian, Turkish or African Islamic art.

Great display of Muslim history and artifacts. Beautiful architecture and they often have different displays set up in the foyer. Employees are kind and they serve halal food at a consession. I've had Altef as a tour guide and he was great. There is a main gallery and a rotating gallery that changes every so often. The Ismaili center is also right beside the building and is quite an attractive building as well. Students get a 40% discount as well. There was a human sized playable chess board outside as well.

Impressive museum. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and amiable. They are always giving you some extra information and gives periodic tours. There is a central area you can eat and enjoy the sun creating a mosaic pin the walls. Worth the visit.

I enjoyed the museum and I do recommend it for anyone interested in Muslim civilizations and/or history. The museum itself is contemporary and the inner courtyard is a lovely spot to relax with something from the cafe. However, overall, the collection is quite small to justify the $20 entrance fee

Interesting, small, focused collection representing historical art & artifacts of many nations. (Syria, Iran, Turkey, Spain, etc) the building is beautiful and worth seeing in itself even if you don't go into the museum or the neighboring Ismaili center. The exterior/interior architecture and grounds were by far the highlight!

A must visit...time and again. Just once is not enough et all. An absolute heaven for historic artifacts lovers esp. the ones who appreciate Islamic art. Mesmerizing collections. When you are at the Aga Khan Muesum time flies, one must keep at least 2 hours (which too is not a good justice) but at least. Adjacent is the beautiful Aga Khan Park. Views are awesome. Sitting there helps you get some inner peace.... Highly recommended.

It is a very nice place to spend an afternoon with friends. There is no entrance fee on Wednesday afternoon, from 5 pm to 8 pm. The restaurant there will close at 5 pm and unfortunately we couldn't get a chance to try it. Parking fee is 10$ and it's a flat rate and it's a little bit too much as I believe you don't spend more than 2 or 3 hours there. They have a shop there too, and pricing is crazy high. I know everything in the store is gorgeous but it's very expensive. Overall I like the place.

This museum is a hidden gem. While not as popular as some of the other museums in the city, this place is well worth the visit. I highly recommend booking the architectural tour as it offers a comprehensive view of the building, which itself is gorgeous. The Ismaili artwork/history contained therein are unique and beautiful. I ate a prix fixe menu at Diwan and the food is middle eastern inspired - they take ideas from all sorts of cuisines in that area and the meal was delicious.

An excellent display of Persian, Mughal art work. They have a large collection of books and manuscripts. The museum is designed well and they have a very good collection which they keep on changing from time to time. Definitely one of the places to visit in Toronto if you are an art buff. They also have a gift shop with a wide variety of Turkish crockery, silk ties, silk scarfs and beautiful art work for sale.

I highly recommend visiting this world class museum! I had an amazing experience visiting the Aga Khan. Not only is it spectacular architecturally, but the way in which they display their collection is innovative and informative. The artifacts they have are impressive, and with many audio tours available you can visit the museum many times, each time having a different experience. Such a peaceful space!

Neat and well maintained museum. The architecture is astonishing as well as the surrounding pool and park. Definitely a must visit venue for an art enthusiast. Wednesday's evenings are free entry. Underground parking is available. Permanent collection on the first floor is good and can take around an hour to complete. They would have some temporary collections on the second floor or some events going on. This would mean you can go back multiple times. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Had a birthday lunch with my sister at Diwan today. I ordered Tandoori chicken wrap w/fries. The sandwich was delicious. I feel like the wrap was made fresh. The chicken had a really nice kick to it. I'm a spice lover. I was afraid that it may be too spicy after the initial hit, but it only got more delicious. Excellent choice! I would definitely go back and I would definitely order the same meal. I had the prosecco and it went to my head, 1/2 a glass. A lightweight! The fries were a little limp and greasy. I think they could have done a better job with those. Lunch was priced totally reasonable; under $50 with an alcoholic beverage. Generous portion also.

The items in this museum are well-curated. I was amazed to find so many really rare things, many of which are only found in a few places on the planet. The presentation is fantastic, with enough room surrounding each item. I've visited this museum a few times and I simply adore it. Every time I've gone, I've learnt something new, and it's led me down some very amazing rabbit holes.

Whether on a cold or hot day, it’s never a bad time to visit this place. The architecture on its own is worth the visit, and the exhibitions are always informative. So much to see. The have a bean bag seating are on the first floor, don’t sit there because you’ll fall asleep to the low lightening and background music. Great experience. Staff are amazing, helpful and polite

A wonderful place to visit every time, summer or winter. Original review from 2018:We visited the museum during open doors. It is a beautifully designed and situated building. The place is gorgeous next to 5 serene fountains and open spaces. We had the pleasure of seeing the permanent collection which gave us insights into the growth and history of a faith. The museum has plenty of rooms to host events, we had seen a lovely music performance by an English band accompanied by beautiful visuals. There is a restaurant which serves sandwiches, soft drinks and juices, sambosas and empanadas. Though the items are a bit pricey. In short it is a great combination of history, art and novelty.

Grounds are quite nice and building is modern. Enjoyed a solo performance of traditional South Indian dance in the central courtyard. High quality collection of Muslim pieces but not as extensive as expected.

This is a pleasant visit for the family, Sunday’s are good with children as they have some craft activities from 12-4pm. The main exhibition was well laid out and plenty of manuscripts to see. The special exhibition had many beautiful garments. I enjoyed learning Islamic history from Persia, South Asia, China as well as some Christian and Jewish history. Quite amazed by the historical manuscript collection.

The Travel Reviews

A place for Art lovers. The museum has lots of historic photos on display as well as antiques. It takes longer to travel there from city centre with public transport. Make sure you check the prayer time before going there because this museum is a part of a religious prayer centre. Shia Ismaili people pray in the prayer centre.

I would have expected a larger collection. The display and collection are well thought out and feature a wide range of materials including rare books, carpets and pots. The building and surroundings are beautiful. We visited during Covid and admission was free but paid for the parking. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The gift shop was way overpriced and needs to consider bringing in merchandise that is more affordable. I was looking for their magnet which they didn't have. Overall a nice visit for anyone interested in arts with a focus on Islamic arts.

The Aga Khan Museum boasts a small permanent collection of "paintings, objects, and architectural pieces from the civilizations of the Muslim world..." (from museum signage, pictured below, 2019), with changing special collections. Recently, a special collection featured the moon and its representation across different mediums - a truly unique collection with works both ancient and modern that made the entire visit worth the price. I look forward to attending future special exhibits and diving deeper into the permanent collection as it *hopefully* grows as it matures. My favourites of the permanent collection: the many astrolabes, including the one set up to be used by the public. It was challenging! My favourite of the special collection: the magnetic poetry wall where patrons could leave their own thoughts on the moon. This was one of many interactive/creative options available. ***Shoutout to the beautiful exterior and gardens in front, the performing arts spaces, and the onsite restaurant.

Wonderful collection of items, although a few things they could improve on. Lighting in some areas is just awful and it’s hard to see the beautiful details of the pieces. Some pieces need cleaning from dust/cobwebs, and some of the display boxes seem too large for the items so it again makes it hard to really appreciate any details. When multiple items are displayed they are not numbered and so it is difficult to sometimes understand which items are being described, and with the descriptions some are placed on the lower part of displays, making them difficult to read. They cover a wonderful amount of Islamic history, but have completely forgotten about areas of the world that are rich in Islamic art and culture, such as Bosnia.

Explored this place in a very limited fashion as I visited this place for an Indian classical concert, they have beautifully maintained this place, would love to come here again and properly visit this location, they also have an exotic dining area in their facility. Talking about the concert, they have a beautiful mini concert hall, with premium acoustic setup, they have good seating and viewing angles, the seats were a little uncomfortable for me. But nevertheless, the place is well built and gives you a good concert experience.

I have never been but my entire sight seeing family did a day I was sick and everyone loved it so much.
