This museum is special. Yes, they have a good collection of Quebec contemporary artists and many good pieces of the 20th century. But this is not what make this museum special. This museum is special because it doesn’t have the best artists and masterpieces of the world, hence they produce the best temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists. Also, these exhibitions has a great social approach, always pushing a sociological and anthropological analysis of the artist and its work. If it is Winter, don't worry, you can access the museum directly from the metro station Place-des-arts without going outside.

I just attracted to videos
One of my favorite place in Montreal. The exposition are modern and often interactive. I often tears up when I visit it and I try to do so every 6 months.
Liked the exposing on children playing.
(Translated) Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's "Unstable Presence" exhibition creates cognitive dissonance at several points, which is rather interesting to experience. We ask ourselves questions and we question our way of life. Is our freedom real? Are we still being watched? Does technology have all the good sides? A visit where many reflections are made! (Original) L'exposition "Présence instable" de Rafael Lozano-Hemmer crée de la dissonance cognitive à plusieurs moments, ce qui est plutôt intéressant à vivre. just LOVE IT ...
The museum is in a great location, right by the Place-des-Artes subway station. Affordable pricing for students - $10 for entrance with student ID. The 'Manifestos' exhibition is a must see! Also, the lightbulbs at the entrance are amazing, worth stopping by.
Medium-sized art gallery featuring a unique selection of contemporary art from around the world
Underwhelming
Definitely a different perspective of life
Very nice space for eclectic expositions
(Translated) Super nice outing with the daycare, what a joy to introduce your child to art! Thank you to the staff for the painting workshop!
Went to the Leonard Cohen exhibition. Probably the best exhibition I've seen for a while, and only fo r$12.
Quite interesting show!
Manifesto is great, you will want 2hours if you want to experience it all.
We visited for the Leonard Cohen exhibition and it was excellent. The gallery rooms are a good large size and several were set up with projections and some small padded seats and with more floor seating on carpet. (Fold out seats were available for older and disabled visitors). The films that had been created for the exhibition were incredible and gave you a good feel for L.C.'s life. Touching and heart warming. We visited parts of the other exhibitions which were good for modern art - not necessarily to my artistic taste though.
Sensory overload
Lots of cool stuff here. Highly recommended.
There were very few visitors and the exhibition was amazing.
Not what I expected... not worth $15 as I only enjoyed 2 exhibits
(Translated) Loved the staff at the reception and in the exhibitions. By cons disappointed that the permanent exhibition was closed and no indication on the website. I learned it by going there ...
Great place to see some post modern art
The Leonard Cohen exhibit is really cool! I didn't know he was from Montreal.
Like all modern art museums, it has interesting stuff and then there are things that your 5 year old could do better. It's worth a visit!
A bit short but so interractive we just circled it twice.
(Translated) A great museum. There are more extensive and richer ones, but this one takes great advantage of what it has. Its permanent collection gives a good idea of various relevant stages of European art and the temporary exhibitions stand out for their curatorship and their museology. There is also always something for children. The only flaw: the cafeteria. (Original) Un gran museo.
nothing to see. I don't know it is because of the virus but really small and any impressing things...
Visited once several years ago. Lovely place and lovely staff.
A great museum. A lot smaller than the museum of beaux arts though.
(Translated) Very happy with my 3 visits to the exhibition of Leonard Cohen, good place in March 19 in renovation but when it's open again I will return for sure.
An amazing and interesting collection, with friendly staff. Easy to access in English or French.
Wonderful museum. See the Leonard Cohen exhibit while you can.
beautiful
Nice museum, excellent staff
(Translated) Leonard Cohen - A Breach of Everything: Cohen's Light (Original) Leonard Cohen - Une brèche en toute chose: la lumière de Cohen
Was good to visit however they were in between exhibitions. Only charge 5 cdn instead of $15 which was nice. Saw 'this is how the light gets in' and 'the prophets'. My favorite piece was by Yann Procreau, Cathedrals
Good discovery
Not really much to see, but nice to escape the cold.
Small museum, with basically one full floor of exhibits. The main light exhibit at the time that I visited, which is located at the lobby of the museum, only had presentations twice a day, and I wasn't able to see it before leaving. Check the type of exhibits they have before deciding if you want to go. Half price on Wednesdays from 5-9pm!
Not a huge museum, but they seem to show a lot of great stuff.
Nice.
(Translated) I think that contemporary art deserves better and more ambitious from Montreal, first city of Quebec and second city of Canada.
Interesting
One of the best art museum experiences of my life I would definitely put this on the list of must-see attractions from Montreal
Go visit. Support the arts.
The entrance price is too expensive (19 dollars the visit), the museum is too small for a price like that, and there is almost nothing interesting inside.
Maybe when the galleries are opened it'd be a nice place, but unfortunately there isn't much to see at the moment.
The David Altmejd exhibition is mindbending.
Fascinating art installations.
a fantastic museum. please visit it.
Is this the montreal equivalent of the pompidou? It's always been my favourite. Years ago I would spend the whole afternoon here. Its quiet& quirky. some installations could keep me engaged for hours. I went back for a visit this past summer and was not disappointed even during the pandemic- they will always have something peculiar on display!
I had one of the best artistic experiences that I have had in recent memory here—A Lot of Sorrow, a collaboration with Ragnar Kjartansson and The National is mind blowing. I was utterly mesmerized. I wish I could have gone back every day. Lots of other interesting works to see too.
Cute
Wonderful time, always feel refreshed when I come to visit. The Museum always has a different experience and feel, the exhibitions are amazing.
I was there in May of 2017 and I saw a lot of pieces that made me feel so many different things. Art is truly the door to the soul. The staff were super friendly and helpful when I was there!
Great exhibits. I wish I could have spent more time here.
I always enjoy myself here. The digital exhibits were astounding - they engaged me as art, while teaching me something about facial recognition, and a variety of other technologies. The exhibits are well selected, interesting, and the length of the museum feels just right for the $$, and my sustained interest. The sound ones, too - the Bach ball, especially - I've never seen and heard such a unique application of fairly simple digital technology.
(Translated) Special moment with my baby. Nice museum, nice location. (Original) Moment privilégié avec ma bébé. Beau musée, belle situation géographique.
Some interesting artwork and installation by local artists. Just when you thought you finished the floor and wanted to explore more, you find that’s all. Out of the huge building, the part on exhibition actually took very few space.
Beautiful museum with great events
Fantastic, large museum with a variety of exhibits.
Awesome staff and great exhibitions during the "nuit blanche" .
Love it
I was asked, “where are you from?” by the staff in the ticket center. I’m not sure that’s asked out of curiosity or MAC would like to collect the visitors’ demographic data (which I was not aware of). If you want to collect the data, let me know first before throwing the question directly. Otherwise, why do I need to explain my identity?
(Translated) Modern museum which presents beautiful and interesting exhibitions on contemporary arts. The museum does not seem to be exploited to its maximum. If you are limited in time, prefer the MMFA. Access by metro Place des arts.
Interesting expositions, usually not too crowded during the day.
I'm always pleasantly surprised by the exhibitions they have. It's a great museum!
Some nice pieces, great experience!
Disappointing collection when I went Dec 27.
The exhibit by Raphael Lozano-Hemmer was thought provoking. The interactivity was engaging. A great space for contemporary art.
The main exhibition is closed so this is not a good time to visit.
(Translated) I visited it on February 9, 2020, very few exhibits open to the public. With full capacity exhibits it should be interesting.
(Translated) I went to the MAC for the Leonard Cohen exhibition, very interesting, I learned a lot there. By cons I find the prices a little expensive for the size and duration of the visit!
(Translated) Although slightly interesting from a technical point of view, ultimately I was disappointed. Very small exhibition, too many people for the little space, too much ambient noise to enjoy the sound installations, and to top it off: an entry fee of $ 20 (and half the regular price) ) for the very little that there is. In an entire exhibition comprising more than ten, or even maybe more than twenty installations, only two or three were understandable / appreciable from an artistic point of view, and this despite my habit of spending almost 10- 30 minutes per room to analyze each room in a museum from all possible angles as well as reading the attached text. From a technical and technological point of view, there were some impressive concepts, sure, but overdeveloped and poorly executed. Avoid for now if you are looking for something other than novelty without depth, there are other free museums with infinitely more content. At least I can say I tried it, maybe the next show will be worth the outrageous price.
(Translated) The exhibitions are always interesting and varied. In addition they often allow a good interaction between visitors and works of art which is very entertaining.
Fabulous museum. Easy bus access. Can get crowded on weekends.
Disappointing experience. I visited the museum of fine arts in the past in Montreal and wanted to hit up a few of the smaller museum in the city during this separate visit. It's a very small space with limited installation. Should adopt the "suggested" fee policy similar to museum in New York.
"THIERRY MUGLER COUTURISSIME" I LOVE FASHION AND GALLERY FASHION BATH.
I went here to see the expo Manifesto. Quite cacophonic but still very interesting. It is reasonably priced and love the fact that you can access it without going outside.
Good one... My most liked sections is projector one where I saw games which I used to play as a child... Nostalgia...
All hail Arthur Jafa!
We arrived about an hour before closing (we kept getting lost on our walk over) and they let us in for free. I enjoyed the Arys exhibit of children's games, and the Bleu on Bleu exhibit. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely return on another visit to Montreal.
One of the coolest museums in the city.
What a waste of time. Should have spent more time at the fine arts museum.
Amazing
Great museum, some expositiona are more interesting than others
We were a little annoyed because we paid full price but couldn't see the permanent exhibit. And some of the temporary modern art was just junk (sorry to be harsh - but it was bad). - I think it has an opportunity to improve with better exhibits and fair pricing (when half of museum is closed).
I expected better.
(Translated) Good place for a quiet evening stroll ❤️ (Original) Bonne Endroit pour une promenade tranquille le soir ❤️
Amazing! the expos are great both inside and out the building, the museum design is really good!
Great
(Translated) Recently, contemporary art is not very happy. meaning, beauty and depth are less and less, and more and more fetish and construction. the museum is well conceived. the passageways between the halls are obvious and simple. the staff is polite and helpful with any request. but the expositions themselves are not endowed with special power. the perception is weak enough.
Lots on interesting and interactive art. Kids loved it.
We saw William Kentridge, and a couple of others. I just wish they had more works from Kentridge. It felt like a cozy museum experience that focused on 5-6 contemporary artists. Overall a great experience.
Decent variety of art to see.
The best museum in Montreal. Gwt the year pass! It's worth it even if uou go a couple of times!
It was a rather quick walk through for myself (only took an hour or so), and it's best if there aren't any school tours because kids are obnoxious and they crowd the gallery. I definitely would not say I have a particular interest in modern art, but it is always interesting to see what people have been inspired to do. This gallery provides a generous space for a limited amount of exhibits, which can be good and bad, depending on your perspective. There were some exhibits entirely in French (descriptions and labels) so as a visiting Torontonian Anglophone, it was difficult for me to enjoy or understand.
This muesam was so much fun!! The art was all really cool and not at all what I expected. It was also reasonably priced. I definitely recommend coming here!
(Translated) Only the permanent exhibits were open when I went, but it was good!
I always enjoy the art exhibitions in this location, very nice and professional settings with interesting activities to keep children busy.
Awesome regular program and lots of cool special exhibitions.
Suprisingly great art
Amazing Leonard Cohen exhibit! Kudos to the team of artists and museum staff.
Permanent collection is closed until Sep. You still have to pay full price though ????
I had an amazing experience here. If you are interested in contemporary art, this is the absolutely must-go place.
The curation is decent, however if caters to mostly French speakers and the layout is crappy
I went for the Leonard Cohen exhibit and it was a great experience. I would visit again if i go back to Montreal.
Cool experience
Great Exibit the Manifesto. Super awesome and creative
Nothing special here.
Went to see the Leonard Cohen exhibition, Crack in Everything. It is not well organized, with excessively long waits, 40 min, to enter basic displays with very poor acoustics. Very disappointing, a loss of time. I was definitely expecting much better from MAC.
Amazing gallery with great collections
Great spot for an afternoon of art.
Post Modern Art New bright colourful art in various media: painting, mixed media, sculpture, video and interactive made by living artists are showcased using materials like plastic, metal, glass, along with more traditional materials like paints and ceramics. One installation with many light bulbs gradually lighted up when hands touched its control. Another dark room had multiple video screens showing a famous American actress acting in diverse characters in her many films.
Recommended. It is worth visit it.
Interesting place.
(Translated) The nocturnes ... It's just amazing ... (Original) Les nocturnes... C'est juste incroyable..
Overall, thought the exhibit I and my family saw was well put together and made to be cleverly interactive. However, the experience was underwhelming as we completed the entire exhibit within an hour and there was nothing else to see on site. Given the price of admission, I had expected to see other works (either from the collection or traveling) to extend the length of stay as many other museums in the area offer. I would suggest visiting one of the many other museums such as the museum of architecture prior to this one if you are looking for things to do.
Too expensive, limited collection
(Translated) While it looks small from the outside, the museum uses its space intelligently to offer enough works to admire. Mention to the particularly interesting "manifesto" exhibition.
It was ok, nice place but there wasn’t really anything to do. I would have been very mad if I had paid full price for it.
Absolutely a must visit in Montreal. The exhibition was amazing and the atmosphere of the gallery is very inspiring.
20 dollars per person to see a handfull of paintings and 15 variations of Leonard Cohen videos. Definitely not what I expected. Don't show up for this exposition unless you are a die hard fan, otherwise I'm sure you can find all better content online.
Two exhibits were on display during our visit. Put together very well. Tip: There is no permanent collection.
Went to see a friend's live performance here. The space is on the smaller side but in a prime location in the city and a definite must-see for tourist.
Not very big when it's half open, but I didn't want to leave once I made it to the Jean-Pierre Gauthier installation.
(Translated) A real pleasure to be there. Understanding a work before reading its explanation, I love it (Original) Un réel plaisir de se retrouver là.
(Translated) Wednesday night half price! The exhibition was music, fun and accessible to all (Original) Mercredi soir moitié prix ! L'exposition était musique, amusante et accessible à tous
Very abstract
Good social distancing practices, not too expensive and nice exhibit.
Great exposition on Leonard Cohen !
A nice place to enjoy the art
(Translated) Very disappointing. There was nothing to do as they updated the exhibits but yet they let you in and pay the full price. A scam..
Incredible exhibit of Rafael Lozano Hemmer's works. It's a small museum but very well curated and with lots of explanation of the artists' intentions and processes.
Really nice place, if you go to the museum get their before 3 PM and do looks of walking around. Can't wait to gi back
Good interactive modern art pieces
(Translated) the museum is not very big and does not have a permanent collection. The quality of the visit therefore depends entirely on the current exposure.
Great place for human history
Not the greatest art museum of all time. Costs to get in and the exhibits are minimal. The best part of this museum was outside!
Leonard Cohen’s exhibition is a rip off. Not worth it at all. It has almost nothing to do with him. Stay away from it. Is a waste of time and money.
Very nice place with different exposure of art.
A beautiful space, with hit-or-miss exhibits. Out of the multiple exhibits we explored I only really enjoyed two of them. Admission was $14 per person, which is satisfactory, but its worth a shot if you're into contemporary art. The Museum of Fine Arts provides a little more quality and value than this one, but I'm sure when MAC has a few good exhibits it's worth a couple hours.
Rafael rozendaal was so good, sometimes it’s for free on Wednesday
(Translated) Very good!! (Original) Muy bueno!!
Best museum in Montreal!
Everyone was respectful also don't think every piece of art is actually nice but I guess that is for you to decide, the history of each artist is nice.
They're not kidding with the "contemporary." It is very much modern art, so if that is not your thing then I wouldn't recommend this. It came for free with the Montreal pass, so it was great to see. I am not a lover of modern art in general, so if I were paying full price I maybe would be not have found it fully worthwhile.
I loved the exhibition on Leonard Cohen!
Nice museum to spend your afternoon. I wish it was bigger!!
Really great place to visit. Lots of cool exhibits.
Enlightening exhibits and inspiring art.
amazing museum great exhibits, especially the egyptian mummies
The place is famous for a reason, it always pushes the boundaries of the art world.
(Translated) Disappointing, $ 10 for a room with ten paintings, uninteresting projections and a dance. I wasn't expecting this for a contemporary art museum, a shame. Big 10 mins to go around $ 20 in all for 2 people absolutely do not recommend! It would be nice to make people aware of the irrelevance of the experiment.
(Translated) Not worth what they charge .... for 20 minutes of "art" (Original) No vale lo que cobran.... por 20 minutos de "arte"
Hyper clean, pleasant service, large seating area, not crammed.
(Translated) Despite being a huge building, the exhibition area is small ... I've been to other museums with the same style and there was a lot to see and interact with ... Still, it's worth the visit to rest your head after many historic museums ...
Nothing much to see.. don't waste your time here.
Wonderful museum. We visited during a "nocture" for Leonard Cohen temporary exhibition. Was crowded, but a great experience. The restaurant had special dishes for the occasion, a bit expensive but very tasty.
Thoughtfully curated exhibits, enormous collection. Can easily spend 3-4 hours here. And the majority of the museum is free!
Good exhibitions, great place.
Very beautiful museum.
Great show when I visited. Central location.
Fantastic!
Very nice experience. At the time the exposition was about Leonard Cohen.
Excellent collection of art installations, especially visual/optical effects. The building itself is a bit outdated
Great museum to visit while in MTL.
Quite an exhibit on Leonard Cohen
Amazing
So so
This is a relatively small museum dedicated to contemporary Quebec artists and some foreign artists too at times. You can save 50% off the ticket price during Wednesday nights 5-9pm, that would be plenty of time to take in all the exhibits. They also participate during Nuit Blanche and Montreal Museums Day where you can get in for free.
Exhibitions are interesting!
Permanent collection was closed
Exhibition on Leonard Cohen was fantastic! Content was great, although the museum is a bit on the small side.
A lot of interesting themes with a diversity pf artist every 2 or 3 months in contemporary context
(Translated) Scandalous to pay 7 dollars (and 15 for adults) for two photos and two paintings and an exhibition that can be done in 15min not even. Very very disappointing (Original) Scandaleux de payer 7 dollars ( et 15 pour les adultes) pour deux photos et deux tableaux et une exposition qui peut être faite en 15min meme pas. Très très decevant
The permanent exhibition I saw was named "L'oeil et l'esprit", and divided in two parts. One side gathered very interesting unusual photography perspectives. On the other side, Geneviève Cadieux gathered herself different artwork in a very interesting setting. Florence - one the museum's guide - will be pleased to introduce this place to you with a lot of passion !
Beautiful collections. Decent pricing.
A museum to visit if you’re into most modern art that you can also interact with. It’s not as big as the fine arts museum, but the interactions with the art make it seem just as huge.
Such an amazing interactive exhibition
Fascinating exhibition that marries art through technology.
Absolutely the worst museum I’ve ever visited. Only three temporary exhibitions were included on this autumn Saturday. It took us about 30 minutes to complete all three exhibits, none of which was interesting or invigorating to me. Is this all Montréal can offer to contemporary art lovers?
Always an interesting visit. Friendly staff.
Great experience !
Small museum with poor collection. It does not worth spending your money there. When they are changing exhibitions is even worth. You can literally see only a small room.
I must say this is my second time in the museum and I just not impressed by it. It is a very small museum had only two rooms it's more a gallery than a museum of contemporary art. Today the two clerks at the tickets both wasn't pleasant and actually they were the same one as last year and they weren't pleasant last year as well. If you do decide to visit do it in Wednesday evening when it's $9.5.
Nice and compact museum of modern art. I was really excited about kids play video performance at the temporary exposition.it was touching experience! I would like to visit another exposition at this museum. Lots of cafes and restaurants around this place.
Fantastic museum. Have been here multiple times and have always seen some amazing installations. Price is very reasonable.
I have been a few times its always good for a laugh. Which means I am enjoying the art, right? Last exhibit I went to they had a video in a darken room with couches. They were playing Sorrow by The National, over and over again in different forms we sat for close to an hour. Now its our song. A lot of the art is interactive, and you are encouraged to sit on the floor and watch a piece. The MAC only gets 4 stars because its rather expensive for a museum its size.
I like the museum of beaux arts plus!
Leonard Cohen exhibition is great! You will need at least 2 hours. I went on Wednesday, it is half price but a bit crowded. If you want to really enjoy the exhibition go another day of the week to avoid lines and waiting. Highly recommended.
Fun. Interactive. Inspiring. Cool place to go and expand the mind and open yourself to creativity. I would say this is a kid friendly exhibit centre with lots of hands on experiences.
terriable!
Free on Sunday's for Quebecois. I highly recommend it.
Wow just wow. Talk about bang for the buck eh. For 7$ as a student, 14$ as a grown up you can spend hours discovering new art and having your mind blown. I'm especially impressed by the dimensions and layout of the rooms. You can be in one giant room looking at 1 piece, surrounded by sound.. I love that. Thanks MAC!!
(Translated) Museum probably very interesting when all the rooms are open. Unfortunately when we went there they changed the temporary exhibition and many rooms were closed to the public. We were entitled to a reduced admission ticket ($ 5) so that we could visit the museum's few permanent collections.
Amazingly inspired by the exhibit that they had by RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMER. There are truly no words.
10$ for 5min visit, maybe 20 works to see? The security guys sometimes are more than visitors. I am not sure if there's any ongoing renovation there, but looks like most places are closed. Don't go there recently, waste your time.
Amazing place
This was my favorite museum that I saw in Montreal. There were a lot of thought-provoking exhibits. You could spend a good part of the day there. I would definately return and recommend it to others. Lots of bathrooms throughout the museum as well which was very nice.
Very good Expo this Summer. I am not used to it...
(Translated) My favorite museum in Montreal. Each exhibition is a surprising discovery. You will be able to see contemporary art from another angle with the often brilliant curating of exhibitions, very diverse. I really like the facilities and performances planned on the ground floor.
Very Nice exposition. Although I had trouble understanding a lot of them which seemed to be abstract only for the sake of being abstract and 'contemporary'. 2 things were really great though: the lightbulbs and Manifesto by Francoise Sullivan. Those are highly recommended.
Great museum and the staff is really helpful.
(Translated) Good but not enough work (Original) Bien mais pas assez d oeuvre
Good but expensive for regular visits. Great for kids with their guided excursions and workshops.
(Translated) I especially enjoy my visits to this museum, the Edmund Alleyn retrospective exhibition remains one of my favorite exhibitions to this day. The permanent collection is very interested and exhibits a diversity of works and varied artistic approaches. Also, the offer regarding events and artistic performances is very interesting.
I would say it's not a top attraction in Montreal
As a Torontonian, most of the contemporary work I see is either at the AGO or individually curated small galleries. It is so refreshing and makes me a bit jealous too. Particularly delightful was the Lozano-Hemmer exhibit. I loved how interactive and immersive it was. A five star experience undoubtedly, and would be my priority art spot for anyone visiting.
Best exhibit I've ever been to in my life! So much engagement with the art
Cool museum and the exhibits change regularly. One of the two main art museums in Montreal.
Beautiful building, interesting exhibits.
(Translated) Very nice museum, affordable price. The exhibit on Leonard Cohen was extremely comprehensive. However, there was a lack of information on the halls, the duration of the performances and unfortunately the plays of one person at a time, the wait was more than an hour (on weekends).
Nice exhibition. Good combinaison between a art and technology.
I loved “There is a crack in Everything’s” exhibition. I came from Brazil and it really worthwhile
Supreme
Interesting/various expositions as always. I have a 4 year student pass and I love it. It have a nice place outside to study during automn or spring btw.
Interesting...
Too short...
There were a few pieces that my partner and I really enjoyed. However, I think most of the pieces relied more on their descriptive placards to tell a story rather than the piece itself.
(Translated) Picasso and African art, very nice exhibition.
MAC is a great place to visit overall, but something unpleasant happened during my visit. There was a guy wandering around in one of the exhibitions
For $19 I saw 10 mediocre paintings and 3 boring audio-visual recordings. Super disappointing.
(Translated) Super museum, very nice collection (Original) Super musée, très belle collection
The Francis Alÿs exhibit of CHILDRENS GAMES was an encapsulation of the entire human experience in one mind blowingly beautiful room. Could have spent more hours there than we did!
(Translated) The exhibitions are sometimes interesting and generally well furnished. The museum is small, and there is no presentation of the permanent collection. The museum really needs the facelift that will soon be underway in order to offer an experience worthy of the museums of the 21st century. And it is rather expensive for the size of the current museum. A city like Montreal deserves better. The Phi center is worth a thousand times the detour in terms of contemporary art in Montreal.
Interesting collections. Not a very big museum, but they always have something new and engaging. Easy to access from Place Des Arts metro station, with an underground entrance you can avoid bad winter weather and still get your art fix.
One of my favourite museum
Nicely curated exhibitions. Great staff.
Never dull, always something new.
2 hours max
Our stop here was meaningful - based on the special exhibit of Rebecca Belmore. I was unaware of her work, and the presentation put forth by the museum was an extraordinary depiction of the emotion, tension and struggle for truth. Unfortunately other parts of the museum were closed for work (not accessible). I’ll gladly visit the museum again to enjoy how they share other meaningful art/artists.
Seems to always have an event here and they are truly awesome.
Great place to enjoy a relaxing afternoon!
Supermusé!!
(Translated) A Museum for inspiration, discovery and ... musing! ???? ????
Finally a work exhibit, that defines art-work in this century.
Brilliant modern art, particularly loved the Rafael Lozanno-Hemmer exhibition
A must if you like art. Many exposicion change so check the web site.
Cool place with really thought-provoking pieces. Good mix of mediums also. Security was ridiculous though I was scolded for pointing at something in one room and then another guard followed me so closely they nearly bumped into me several times.
Such cool interactive exhibits!
A great gallery I liked It a lot of lot. Don't forget to visit It. U can get a discount with u college ID.
Great place for people who like tech and are into the Arduino/raspberry Pi
Actually closed for renovations, the MAC propose great exhibitions in the heart of Montreal
(Translated) Great interactive exhibits! Very advantageous student subscription (Original) Super expositions interactives! Abonnement étudiant très avantageux
(Translated) The exhibition is only one floor. Duration: less than an hour. You have to be able to enjoy several minutes before each work (provided you like contemporary art) to fill an afternoon. The museum is pale against the Museum of Fine Arts.
Nice activity museum and staff... Contemporary art is sometimes challenging
Nice museum, fine place for contemporary art. Good exhibitions.
Pretty cool exhibits on right now.
Great exhibitions! Even our kids enjoyed them.
Always thought provoking works here every time we visit Montreal.
(Translated) Elegant space with lots of interesting facilities (Original) Élégant espace avec beaucoup des installations intéressantes
Was just in time for the exhibition of Leonard Cohen. It was well curated making the whole experience quite emotional. We got in early in the morning but the museum was quickly filled up with exhibition goers.
A bit small but... Great galleries. Diverse artforms. Affordable. Well located. Thought provoking. Fun.
Casual easy going museum. Relaxing.
Saw 2 exhibits by contemporary Canadian artists
A beautiful space to see exhibitions. Friendly admission staff. Half price on Wednesday. It's great that the museum is open until 9 pm three days a week.
(Translated) A fascinating place. The institution really manages to make the most innovative in contemporary art accessible to the general public. The only problem is that the museum is so small, especially when compared to the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal ... We want more! :) (Original) Un endroit fascinant. :)
(Translated) Superb museum located in the arts district .. presently (February 2018) you have to go see the exhibition about Leonard Cohen .... simply wonderful (Original) Superbe musée situé dans le quartier des arts.. présentement (février 2018) il faut aller voir l'exposition au sujet de Leonard Cohen....simplement formidable
The Rafael Lozano-Hemmer exhibition is a good show for technophiles. I have yet to see it. Half price on Wednesdays after 5pm.
Leonard Cohen's work is very beautiful...he was a very complex man and this exhibition is excellent.
Thoroughly appreciated the exhibits I was able to see.
Nocturne de Nov 9 was quite the experiential evening, full of music, video, art and sculpture. Did not partake of the bevs and small bites but all looked tasty. A bit confusing to get where we wanted to go but everyone was helpful.
It’s really cool how they always have something new on display.
They should really be more up front that there is indeed only one exhibit. For 20+ CAD there should be more than one...
There are some great pieces but the exhibition is very small. It was included in my mtl pass so I didn’t have to pay for the ticket but I would have been disappointed otherwise.
Calm and nice atmosphere.
I liked the exposition, just kinda hard to find where to go after Manifesto. I liked that piece of art and mostly the exposition about Françoise Sullivan.
It was the exhibit of Julian Rosefeldt and Françoisr Sullivan. Beautiful and open more my mind
Not a complete fan of contemporary art, but this exhibit was pretty decent, although a bit small for our liking.
Very nice museum altough right now they are moving away so there is only one expo open the rest is closed but still worth to check out
Great place to visits when you’re a tourist. There’s always something new to see !
Surely the museum has seen better times before the pandemic. I think that for safety measures, not all of the museum is open. It has a very little exposition and is kind of disappointing at this point. Not worth going.
(Translated) Visit at the end of March. Cost = $ 15 for person 33 years old. (The price goes with age groups). Measures respected. Me, I have not tripped over what was on display. But I am starting to discover new places. So that's just my personal opinion. (Original) Visiter fin mars. (Translated) It wasn't as much as I expected, maybe I got it at a bad time.
Great museum.
Small museum. We stayed for less than an hour. We found about half of the work compelling(not bad) and the work was presented/staged well. There is a better and larger modern art collection at the Museum of Fine Arts.
(Translated) Excellent museum of contemporary art in downtown Montreal. The temporary exhibitions are of great quality and more than recommended for all current art lovers (experts, connoisseurs and profanxs). At this time (summer 2019) you cannot visit the permanent collection and therefore I don't know its content. Very friendly staff at all times. Went there for Cohen's expo, was great
(Translated) I had the chance to be present for a show from midnight to 2am and it was a fantastic experience. I salute the instigators of such ideas and congratulate the staff of the evening. The exhibition was perfect in many ways and the context simply plunged me deeper into the artist's work. Bravo. Bravo.
always love coming here. seems they’ve revived an exhibit i’d seen back in 2015 or 2016 featuring ragnar kjartansson’s collab with the national (one of my all-time fav bands) for july, which was a nice surprise.
Small museum but current exhibit is wonderful
(Translated) Modern museum with interesting exhibitions on contemporary arts. The museum does not seem exploited to its maximum.
(Translated) Very nice exhibition. The kids loved interacting. (Original) Très belle expo. Les enfants ont adoré interagir.
Good culture stop,a pleasant and diverse selection of style and artists.
A spectacular interactive visit of the life and works of this great poet that was Cohen.
great spot, although the current exhibition is rather depressing...
Centrally located and good exhibitions.
I loved it! You can get a student discount presenting your id
Friendly and helpful staff that speak English and French, great to visit even between exhibitions
if you want the full museum experience visit the website before going otherwise you may be unlucky with exhibit changes closing specific areas
Very disappointed visit. All the permanent collection was closed for maintenance, but the cashier was saying there were 3 exhibitions available. However, it is one Rebecca Belmore exhibition and another sound exhibition you need to pay another $12. I only spend 1 hour here. Very disappointed.
There were 20 pieces of art that was being exhibited when we visited. They were under a big renovation and charged us $5 each. I am not sure it’s worth it and even the receptionists warned us it might not worth our time. They were right, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Adored Julian Rosenfeld Manifesto
Waste of time and money. They had very obnoxious, display loud and really very poor taste. The outside of the building was more impressive. The staff was pleasant but it was mostly empty space. Very disappointing, wish we had saved the time.
Good stuff, a little small for the price and some exhibits are a little pretentious at times.
(Translated) I suggest buying the museum's friends card, you will save by returning to the new exhibitions. The rooms are spacious, the works literally exceed you. It makes you love contemporary art (the name says it ..), otherwise you will be bored pretty quickly.
A pretty nice museum, I like the openess and the amount of art on display, the layout at times is odd, but overall, I'd go again for different exhibits.
Educatif! Worth visiting on New Exhibition! Enjoy the novelties!
(Translated) I love this museum but I know how to remain objective. The exhibitions are really qualitative and offer a real dash of modernity. If you know in advance that you are going to go there at least 3 times a year, I recommend the mac pass: it's a good investment because the exhibitions are going quite well, you have discounts on other museums in the city , delivery to the museum shop and above all invitations to openings. There are also workshops offered to children and adults in search of development of their artistic sense or not (not yet tested) The museum is easily visited in 1 hour / 1:30. There are free changing rooms, and a small tea room for a snack. Good visit. Bonne visite.
(Translated) We did a guided tour for the second time this year. The guide was amazing, passionate and she adapted her speech and flow super well for our French immersion group. Smaller and less impressive than I expected. I'm not too well versed in avant garde but I expected more
(Translated) Museum well located and which frequently receives interesting exhibitions. It is also worth visiting the collection.
(Translated) Beautiful exhibitions (Original) Belle expositions
A great place to spend some time with. The light bulb with heart frequency device is pretty interesting!
The security guard kicked us out 15 minutes before the closure of the museum. He was aggressive, rude and did wanted to anwser our questions...
(Translated) It is the only contemporary art museum in Canada, but it is an incredibly small art museum. The work was also insignificant, so I was greatly disappointed.
An absolute must see. I loved the indigenous art and the fasion!
First Nations artist and Rebecca Belmore exhibit was moving -- dark deep current of colonial history, of contemporary times, reflect upon with the poetic power of sculpture installation....
One of my favorite contemporary art museums. They have free coat check and a few galleries. It's super cheap too! $7 for students. they have a wide range of exhibits that are fun to see even if you're not usually into art.
(Translated) Beautiful and with many things to see. Income is not expensive.
Really nice museum.
Note to self: free between 5pm and 9pm.
In between exhibitions. Permanent? Artwork present was fun and quirky.
Didn't understand any of the art, but I think that's the point. It was pretty. Some of the benches look like benches, but they are art. Do not sit there.
Not a big contemporary art fan but I really liked the 3D graphs done in real world 3D. I particularly liked the graph of countries with data.
Amazing
(Translated) A very pleasant place to stroll and marvel, although a little small.
Wonderful exhibit of modern furniture design. Temporary exhibit on Picasso and African art
Remains one of the top museums in Montreal
(Translated) Very disappointed .... comtenporan art is not what it used to be (Original) Très déçue....l'art comtenporain n'est plus ce que c'était
Not enough works when no temporary exhibition
I have visited some of the best art exhibitions in my life here. Some times not easy to connect to because their so aggressive in selecting the artwork. The museum is right beside the metro station with bathrooms and restaurants. For parking the are some payed public ones close by.
Great job enforcing social distancing! Nice to see :)
Half of this museum is closed for an undetermined period of time, it's just not worth it
Heart beats
(Translated) Small museum, small and expensive. This institution in the genre is not up to its "similar" ... shame!
Lots of open space, I enjoyed the Manifesto exhibit, but some people may find it overwhelming in the exhibit
Awesome exhibitions for a great price :)
(Translated) Unfortunately, only 3 rooms are currently open - a special exhibition with Rebecca Belmore. Trotzdem sehr sehenswert
Very interesting!
Incredibly disappointing. The building is large and compelling from the outside, but the inside of the museum is tiny. Although the inside is clean and modern, there is nothing much to see. There were only two exhibits and they were not worth the price at all ($10 per adult). One exhibit was made up of approximately 6 video and sound projects. The other exhibit contained about 12 paintings. There seemed to be lots of closed off rooms and areas in the museum with nothing in them. It was very hard to concentrate on the video and sound projects because of the ambient sounds in the museum and the muddled sounds of the other videos. They really need to work on their sound design and isolation. Half of the videos were quite long, one coming in at approximately an hour, which to me was really boring. The painting exhibit was also, frankly, uninteresting, and the works weren't great. It took about 25 minutes to see the whole place, and that's while stopping to look and read about every single piece, and watching part of each video. Overall it was a waste of time and money.
Good
Wonderful. Great expositions. Buy the MTL pass for enjoy a lot of attractions included
(Translated) Excellent visit to make a project of exhibition at the museum with the children!

Date was impressed ;)
(Translated) Expo at the MAC (Original) Expo au MAC
The art is interesting. It does speak to the town, I felt, as far as I can tell as an American tourist. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although my friends rushed me out a bit. It's suffering from a bit of dilapidation, which is not a concern if you are going there for the inner dialogue. Seeing the lack of funding is a bit sad though.
Great expos but a bit small
Great small museum. Great location. David Altmejd exhibit last fall was very evocative. A "partner in crime" saw the exhibit with me. We were mesmerized.
A great place to hang out for a few hours!
(Translated) When will you dare with names like Daniel Arsham, Jake and Dino, Kaws, Diane Victor, Laurie Lipton, Takashi Murakami. I don't understand why I have to go to Ottawa or Quebec City to see more interesting exhibitions ???????? Or Zïlon who is one of our great artists here !!!!!
Great if you like Contemporary Art. Definitely worth the visit. Lots of interesting pieces of Janet Werner :) Loved it ????
Nice museum to go see contemporary art. It's quite small, so you don't need a whole day, but sometimes you will need more than a day like a past exhibition about Leonard Cohen, it's so much interactive. You can stay in a room for a few hours and relax to the music of Leonard Cohen or watch a documentary about his life, etc...Overall, it is a very beautiful museum and I can't wait to go see the current exhibition with Cate Blanchet!
An emotionally confronting place full of culture
The exhibition was too small this time, but generally it is a great museum.
Hit and miss.
This place is a joke, contemporary art is not art, it's a joke!
(Translated) It is always a great pleasure to discover the works offered by the Museum. Surprising and rich discoveries. It gives meaning to life.
(Translated) You have to live the experience! It was breathtaking! Thank you again for all these sublime works. (Original) Il faut vivre l'expérience ! C'était à couper le souffle ! Merci encore pour toutes ces sublimes œuvres.
(Translated) Small is exact but very beautiful expo. 07/24/2019 After we like it or not! Personally, the video of the performance by The National group "A lot of sorrow" stuck me ... for 3 hours. As for the work below ... I leave you judge.
Too small and very little art to exhibit, I didnt even take pictures..
I always visit when in Montreal. There is always a new exhibition and it is always well done.
(Translated) Nice, but nothing more. For the price there is not much to see. (Original) Sympa, mais sans plus. Pour le prix il n'y a pas beaucoup à voir.
Awful museum. Only 2 small rooms for exhibitions in which you spent less than 1 hour. Also we got warned by safety guard 3 times within 10 minutes for pointing to the work (not touching at all), having a small backpack, and taking a sip of self-prepared water in the corner of the room. Complaint passed. Good luck.
I like to go to the MAC to be entertained. Most of their exhibits are of high quality; however, do your research because the museum splurges a lot of their budget on one to two amazing exhibits per year---go to see these without hesitation. Their permanent collection is small but has amazing pieces by Riopell and a few striking Quebecois works of 1950s minimalism/primitivism that I love.
I am confused still confused about this museum. Maybe I don't get really art. Entrance is 15$ but not worth it in my opinion.
Very poorly done. After entering past the unwelcoming staff you find yourself in a rather dark, unmarked rotunda wondering why it is unkempt, and where you should go. Eventually finding uninteresting exhibits, you wonder what is going on here. I collect Quebec art and I found this terribly disappointing. Big changes need to be made. Big changes. Sorry. Go see the vibrant presentations at the Beaux Arts instead.
Very beautiful museum, can't to see it looks like after the renovation.
Small museum with interesting audiovisual expositions and paintings. Price goes down after 5:00 pm Friendly and courteous staff
MAC is a great place to visit overall, but something unpleasant happened during my visit. There was a guy wandering around in one of the exhibitions, he looks like a security guard but I don’t really know who he is and I didn’t ask his name. He kept talking to random people, I don’t have a problem with that. But when he came to talk to me, I felt quite uncomfortable cause i found the way he talk to me is kinda rude, like mocking the way I speak, using curse words when talking to a total stranger, and judging what I think about the exhibitions. I don’t know what’s his deal because to me, he was just making random small talk, not really having a specific topic, in an impolite way. We didn’t talk for long since I was more and more irritated by what he was saying to me so I just said I have to go and left. I don’t know, there might be some misunderstandings. I found him kinda rude might because I’m Asian. It might be my own problem since I’m depressed and routinely mess up everything. I really don’t know, but this encounter totally ruined my one of the few alright-days. Thank you stranger. I think I better stay away from people forever.
Enthralled for hours by the Cate Blanchett exhibit!????????????
If you really love Leonard Cohen and can't stand a moment without him then go, but otherwise be forewarned. It's videos of people applauding at Cohen, a few verses of things he wrote, a hologram of Cohen and videos of interviews with Cohen. In other words: it's stuff you could probably find via google and not really worth the price of admission.
Waste of time.. no exhibits
Small museum, but found many interesting works!
Definitely the worst museum I visited during my time here.
You need to be able to appreciate art to go to that kind of museum. But if you're like me, you're going to love this place. Nice place and nice expositions.
(Translated) Provokes contemporary thoughts and critiques of society through the art on display I find it really moving. Without doubt one of the museums that I love the most in Montreal as a queer person :) (Original) Provoque des pensées et critiques contemporaines de la société à travers l'art exposé je trouve ça vraiment émouvant.
Disapointing very few interesting pieces. Empty rooms with little to see and the pieces lacked any effort or skill, relying on the nonsensical textual description to give them any semblance of value. I would rather have read a longer essay on the artist's thoughts about the topics they profess to represent than waste my time looking at untalented work that lack the ability to convey anything.
(Translated) The website did not say that the permanent collection was closed and under construction. I moved for nothing and it cost me a useless parking. Only the temporary exhibition was present, it was minimal (30 minutes and that taking good time on each work) $ 22 + $ 15 parking for 30 minutes ... it's expensive for a family. Please indicate clearly on your website that you are closed. Merci
One of the coolest museums in the city.
This is not a large museum by any measure. I was expecting it to be bigger because of its location in the heart of the city's entertainment district. What it lacks in size, it makes up in originality, playfulness and quirkyness. The exhibits are visually striking, engaging and well displayed. Go there only if you are willing to play along and let yourself become temporarily part of the exhibits.
(Translated) I wanted to buy a computer and was advised the Mac. Unfortunately, it is not possible to buy a computer, but the experience is pleasant. The computer skills of the clerks at entry, however, seem limited.
Nice museum in downtown Montreal. Had the opportunity to see the Leonard Cohen exhibit and it was fantastic! Far too much to see in one afternoon. There was a bit of a wait to get tickets but the line moved quickly. I would assume the same for other popular exhibits. Average museum entrance price but over priced food and gift shop so if you're on a budget look elsewhere for lunch and souvenirs. The museum is within easy walking distance of many of downtown Montreal's tourist hotspots, like the old port, China town, st Laurent, st Catherine's shopping, etc. Also within an easy walk of many food choices. Definitely recommend if you are into art museums.
lots of cool temporary exhibitions and events, online booking possible located in downtown montreal

(Original) Musée agréable et riche d'oeuvres variées à étonnantes. Visite dans le cadre dimanches culturels! The MAC is fantastic, and the ongoing renovation is not detrimental to the experience.
Very nice temporary exhibitions
It was really nice to learn something completely new. I myself am not a art lover guy but despite of the fact I enjoyed...
(Translated) The entrance fee is too expensive for the exhibition presented. At the end of the exhibition we started looking for the rest, but only the free section was left. I regret I bought the ticket, because the most interesting exhibit was in the free part - it's the mechanical piano. For all my friends I will advise not to buy the ticket as it is not worth the cost, while the free section is quite interesting.
Hopefully there will be more to see once they have finished their renovations. Quite a high price to pay considering there are only 2 exhibits which each took less than 20 minutes to go through. At this point in time, I would not recommend visiting. It was not worth it based on the lack of any interesting works on display. Disappointing.
A lot of respect to Leonard Cohen but the exhibition sucks, really expensive for the worst snob curator, there’s only one hall that matters, hope someone do something and fix it, I feel dissapointed.
Very interesting place, loved the pieces they had on display. The work is very creative and different from regular museums or art galleries.
(Translated) Excellent welcome from smiling and lively Joyce, and from all the people at the entrance desk and the cloakroom. The museum is interesting because of the architecture of the central rotunda. The upstairs rooms offer video works, including a remarkable, very rhythmic montage by Nelson Henricks in the last room. In the basement a video on the mistreatment of the African American population ... and upstairs an exhibition of ten large format paintings on the theme "painting nature with a mirror". A beautiful museum located Place des Arts, one of the galleries of the underground Montreal.
Wonderful exhibition, Julian Rosenfeldt Manifesto

Very cool exhibits
Excellent exhibits this summer for the whole family. The digital exhibits were thought provoking and refreshing. Leonard Cohen exhibit was a treat to see. Looking forward to this Fall's schedule to come
Pretty good. They have this light bulbs that translates your heart beat to blinking light. It was pretty cool
Wonderful art and great exhibition!
All the museum's in Canada are awesome this one was no exception. Had an amazing time.
(Translated) Excellent! It is small but the current exhibitions are very good! Definitely worth visiting (Original) Excelente!
Only one exhibit was open. Spent $20 to see 20 minutes of art. Didn’t receive any warning about closed exhibits. Don’t come here
Good diversity and accessible to all
LENORD COHEN EXHIBITION GREAT
(Translated) A great museum with an interactive exhibition, it takes about 2 hours to explore. The best part is Eliasson's play of light. (Original) Świetne muzeum z interaktywna ekspozycja, na zwiedzanie wystarczy około 2 godzin. Najlepsza częścią są zabawy światłem Eliassona.
Great!
Fav place in Montreal!

Really terrific food, terrible service (forgot what we ordered, very slow, temperature was hot, asked to loer temp on A/C they said it was ok
Sometimes I truly wonder how some of these things end up in a museum. I didn't really enjoy my visit.
(Translated) The video exhibits left me confused, but the rest of the museum was nice. I would definitely stay there again when there are new exhibitions.
"Lee Young Jun PEN AR" Pen Art(General Remarks) Infinity of lines and dots have symbolism. Such symbolism is ever changing according to the spirit’s depth. All works are kaleidoscopic; they are usually composed of indescribable expressions. Therefore, art’s depth also can be said to be unlimited. Is pen art’s depth also infinite? In other words, do the lines and dots flowing from the nib of a pen have an artistic qualification? In this respect, it is worth thinking deeply. Pen art begins from an essence of nature’s fundamental values. From the standpoint of value, or color, a harmony of black and white is essential in nature. As it is impossible to see any color in darkness, distinguishing color is an essential role of light. That is why the soul is drawn to light. Whiteness, or light is a spiritual reflection of the soul while blackness, or darkness is a reality of life on earth. As the color green is an essential color of vegetation, burnt charcoal is an earthy color that will stay near black. Blackness is heterogeneous and may be hostile to life. If blackness belongs to the essence of nature, it also may be said to represent the image of death. A combination of black and white constitutes degrees of lightness and darkness. When painting black on a white background, the soul is transported to the white background. Whiteness comes to life when contrasted with black line and black space. In this case, soul also may be expressed through the blackness. Soul may be transported to the black or a combination of white and black, which shed a mysterious merit to the soul or spirit. Pen arts starts and ends from an essence of nature’s fundamental contrasts. The primary essence is infinite and eternal while the artistic harmony of black and white can take one’s breath away. But, this is not possible until a metamorphosis has been realized over many years and spiritual transcendence has occurred. The transfer of spirit occurs when one’s life experiences are projected onto the white canvas in harmony with blackness. That is the true ‘pen art.’ Artist Lee Young Jun I am a Korean. I pioneered the " Lee Young Jun Pen Art " and Perfected the genre. I am Artist Lee Young Jun. Pen Art is the only genre is an important work In the world. The works are extremely valuable. And no one is able to work not dare to imitate. The hope my work can be sympathy to many people. Thank you.
Compelling exhibitions of talented artists in Quebec. Should visit by those who want a richer perspective on modern art. For more than twenty years, I have seen compelling exhibitions of art, installations and videos here. Good venue. It's conveniently next to the Montreal Opera.
Great expositions
Nice museum to see in Montreal downtown,
Great experience.
Excellent museum. Glad they are expanding it.
It was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend to go there
Good museum, but it is really small.
Seems to always have an event here and they are truly awesome. Lots to see and walk around..... go experience it... there’s plenty of hidden little things which make it beautiful.
(Translated) We could only visit 2 of the 3 exhibitions because we arrived a little late, but they were very interesting, the videos were involved, I really enjoyed the music that ensued for one of them. The paintings were just as fascinating, with certain abstractions allowing you to see everything quite different from your neighbor, free to interpret!
It was a great place to visit. So much to see
although it is closing/moving to Plave Ville Marie for renovations, it remains a place to discover new artists. the new acquisitions reveal an interest in native artists, including first Nations and the indigenous people of the north. the lighting is always good, and the insulations are interesting. I'm also very fond of the welcome that one gets in the small museum. as a member, I always feel like I'm coming home.
Beautiful location for a function
(Translated) Very nice place to visit. The rooms are well appointed. Beautiful decor, to visit. (Original) Très bel endroit à visiter. Les chambres sont bien aménagées. Beau décor, à visiter.
Best museum in Montreal.
We went for the Leonard Cohen retrospective and were totally engrossed. A fantastic event that is educational and very moving. A great way to remember one of our Montréal and Canadian heroes.
Seems like communist propaganda to me, but ok
(Translated) Always so amazing, works that criticize, works that amaze, works to open the horizons and see more than the real, the truth.

One of the worst museums I've been to
nothing special
Beautiful art in a gorgeous space. Had a great experience visiting their gallery.
Unfortunately under renovation until 2020, resulting in reduced exhibition space. Can't wait to see the changes.

Great presentation of compelling material. My experience was beyond satisfying.
(Translated) What a nice place for discoveries. It would be interesting to offer a showcase to Montreal's emerging media arts and visual arts. For example a new artist per month ...
An interesting museum with varied exhibitions. Some of the items were intriguing (great techniques), but the meaning for some evaded me. Maybe you're not supposed to "get it". The permanent collection was not available at the time, but I would go back to check it out. Easy to find and get to
(Translated) One of my favorite museums in MTL. The exhibited works interact with the spectators which makes it all the more interesting. Only one room open during my visit, I don't know if this is normal, I therefore completed the visit in about 1 hour. On Wednesday evening (it seems to me) the prices are half price and if you are a student you have an additional reduction. So I won't complain about a visit that cost me € 4.
a must if you like contemporary arts. very cool that they also have the friday nocturnes from time to time.. a night at the museum! very very nice.
Fantastic!!!
(Translated) The exposition is not very large, but very high-quality work by contemporary Canadian masters. And a powerful and not transmitted atmosphere! The only drawback, it’s quite difficult to find the museum itself) I advise everyone who loves contemporary art to see ingenious things born in the minds of people!
(Translated) Ok but not enough space devoted to Inuit arts. There should still be discounted student rates. I presented my udem card and no discount was available .. whether for temporary or permanent collections ... hallucinating !!!

unique gallery with an abundance of new art to look at ! cool to walk around because they regularly change their project and present it to the public. it’s always nice to take a minute and reflect on their work. good job ????????
A really good exhibit! Not too crowded, no waiting, efficient staff. Would recommend
Very snobbish reception
Average
Very subreslistic
(Translated) Airy as space. Heavy exterior door for person with reduced mobility, otherwise general experience very well. Courteous service. Service courtois.

(Translated) We were a little disappointed. The somewhat expensive tickets for what they offer you. We almost enjoyed watching the children play in the water games in front of the museum.
See the free exhibits offered Mondays. Very crowded
Not worth it, it was free and I still feel like they ripped me off
Leonard Cohen exhibit was a joke.
It is a better art museum than AGO in Toronto.
(Translated) Great interactive museum ... the best exhibits are there!
(Translated) Very small art museum. Even with the MTL pass, it's a waste of time and money to buy the pass. It is recommended that you check it out, as each exhibition is different. I went to the Olaf Ellison exhibition and was even more disappointed with the small scale.
Need MORE exposition and not ecerything close all the time ! Its been my 3rd time I go in the past year and there is always a big section closed and it becomes dissapointing..
Very small museum. My kids were bored and not much to see.
Closed on Mondays....really...this is 2017...
Just beautiful.
Some quite interesting stuff in this modern structure. Wouldn't say it was massively interesting but it was a good place to spend an hour or so.
Interesting expositions. Diversified.
Excellent Lozano-Hemmer exhibition. Fantastic security staff never met such helpful and cheerful staff in a gallery.
(Translated) Beautiful museum unusual unusual exhibits fun On the other hand, employees who are poorly informed about access for reduced mobility (Original) Magnifique musée expositions inhabituelles originales amusantes Par contre les employés mal informés sur l'accès pour mobilité réduite
A very small museum, but the space is really cool (almost an art piece in its own right). Unless any particular piece stops you in your tracks for a while, the whole exhibit can be viewed in well under an hour. Not my favourite of all Montreal museums, but I did find some thought provoking pieces even despite not caring for the conceptual art.
Good enough - Would recommend as its location is great and easily accessible by metro but it's a relatively small museum and some of its exhibits are unimpressive. Since the museum is located downtown, restaurants and shops are nearby so I like to go see an exhibit and stroll down the street to get a coffee and lunch and shop a bit.
(Translated) Beautiful landscape with a synchronization of light effects on buildings ????
(Translated) Both fun and interesting, the contemporary art museum is full of works. I really liked the fact that the works interact with the viewer. Some lead to a reflection on what surrounds us. Too bad that part was closed. It gives me a reason to come back.
We were very lucky to visit before Covid19 started..
Engaging exhibition in a well organized gallery
Great museum and experience
Great exhibits and permanent collection. Worth the visit.
(Translated) It was a bit unfortunate because there were fewer exhibits than I thought. (Original)
Smaller gallery for contemporary art with excellent programming and curation of both Canadian and internationally renowned artists. On this visit, saw Julian Rosenfeldt's Manifesto featuring Cate Blanchett. - Plan for a 1.5-2.5 hr visit. - Extended gallery hours Wed-Fri from 11-9PM (Until Jan 20, 2019.) - Half price admission Wednesday evenings. - The next "Les Nocturne du MAC" Jan 18, 2019. Special all night party with DJ, dance floor, food, and drink from 5PM-2AM. Exhibitions open during this event. Go early to avoid long lines for entry.
Outstanding. The Leonard Cohen show very entertaining
(Translated) The MAC presents contemporary art in all its forms; Paintings, sculptures, installations, multimedia, etc. Artists from all walks of life find their place there. The works of Paul-Émile Borduas are among the museum's essentials. There is a permanent exhibition and the temporary exhibition. Entrance fee ($), except for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Many activities are organized there. An institution in Montreal.
I found nearly every exhibit fascinating and it is small enough to see it all without getting sensory overload.
You never know what you're going to see here. For the art enthusiast it's worth it.
Very disappointing! Would have been disappointed if admission had been free, but for $38 for 2 of us, it was an absolute rip off. Tiny exhibit hall. If Leonard Cohen is your hero, you may enjoy a little. Really nothing else to see except Leonard Cohen exhibit. We went to old Montreal after and saw much more art and art of quality! Would skip the museum and check out the local galleries instead. We couldn't stop talking about how awful the museum was.
