So cool! Not a huge tour but informative and fun.
Awesome cave and some nice fossils. Owner was super nice and helpful. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Great experience for the whole family! Very well informed tour by a great guide! very educational, all of the staff and owners were super friendly, place is very well kept (very clean washrooms), Covid 19 protocols were respected and enforced in a great way. Caves were amazing, Hard to believe these are in Ontario. A must visit, price was great and well worth it! Loved the giftshop too! nothing over priced and cool stuff for the kids to buy to without breaking the piggy bank!
Closed ! 08-06-2017!!
Fun activity for young and old.
When will the place be open ? Or is it open now?
It is an interesting excursion. There are guided tours every 30 mins ish. The entrance's fee is cash only. There's a picnic area and complimentary parking on the premises. The girl who was guiding the tour was really nice. It doesn't take long to complete the tour.
It's small cave. But it was interesting to be inside. Liked the guide story. Thanks for great time!
A fascinating look into the world of underground caves. A great experience for young and old alike.
The tour is not very impressive and the tour guide not very knowledgeable. However the property is groomed, well kept and very accommodating
Nice place spend an afternoon. Pretty cool cave and history.
Sucks
First time in a cave. Interesting. Brings you to another place, a wonder.
I’m from Boston and We had a great time at the cave 2 weeks ago. Very informative and pleasant tour guides.
This is a very unique experience down into a cave full of rock formations and maybe a critter or two. A lot of work has gone into making a fun, educational and safe place. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Even above ground there's stuff to see from the fossil displays to the beautiful view from the lookout.
We really enjoyed the talk and tour of the caves. Very interesting story. Great for the whole family
Felt like it was man-made and it was fake
It was like going back in time, our guide was great and I learned a thing or 2 also. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to call themselves a spelunker ;!)
Smoke and mirror for most of the 30 minutes trip. Clerk did a good job
We called in to visit, Michelle picked up the call she booked us in. This place takes only cash 14$ per visit which includes guided tour and visit to a cave. Call ahead to book your spots. Amazing experience. Nicki gave us the tour and made it worth.
Price is very high for what you see. It seems like they're trying to stretch out the tour to justify the price, and the actual cave system is not very long/big or interesting. The group size was much too big to do social distancing, and the guide didn't enforce the mask rule (people were constantly pulling their masks down); not too comforting in a tight space. We had paid online the day before but had to pull up our receipt as proof when we got to the office as they didn't have a list. All that said, the two star rating is mainly just because the cave isn't overly interesting, combined with a high price for what it is.
Great experience, knowledgeable owners, loved it
I was pleasantly surprised with the location, unknown to large population, this natural site is a step away in the village.. loved my visit.. hats off to the family who maintains the place.
Really cool cave! Worth it to just check that out! Probably would have preferred a non-guided option, though the guide was really nice.
Excellent attraction and learning about some natural history.
Awesome natural formation. Nice and cool on a 40degree summer day.
Great staff, and great little get away for anyone wanting a little adventure
Very informative tour, caves are fun to tour. Not a lot of time to enjoy the caves or take pictures because the guide is either talking or leading you to the next stop. It would be nice if they gave you 5mins at the end to explore.
Could've done without the guided tour, everything that was mentioned could've been written on plaques throughout the grounds. We didn't even end up seeing the cave itself because they didn't want us going on with our children. Thankfully, they refunded us, but if they don't want children in the cave, they should say so from the beginning.
(Translated) Interesting but nothing more. The cave we are visiting is fitted out which is not very natural. Nice presentation in English only. (Original) Intéressant mais sans plus. La caverne que nous visitons est aménagée ce qui n’est pas très naturel. Belle présentation en anglais seulement.
Took my family their and it was great.. little pricy for what u get to do but it was very educational
We came upon this place by chance when we were in Belleville on the way back from the Sandbanks provincial park. This cavern has the distinction of being Ontario's largest natural cavern. The entry is cash only but the guy at the entrance was nice enough to accept US currency as we did not have anything else on us.There are guided tours every couple of hours and they start off with the fossils recovered in the areas-stalactites,plant and marine origin ones .It's pretty thrilling to know that you are actually standing on what once was a sea bed many years ago. Then they show us the sinkholes which are depressions formed when the cave ceiling collapses on itself. We then proceed into the actual cave ,the highlights of which are a wishing well (you can try your hand at throwing a quarter into the well to land exactly into the center of a coin arrangement which is laid out on the floor on the well). and the stalactites and mineral formations on the walls and teeth like formation on the rocks. There are also very narrow crevices extending into the structure which apparently experienced spelunkers do explore. There's some cave art and (unverified) inscriptions from 1880 on a wall. Some of the caves are restricted as there is a danger of flooding in the narrow channels. Overall I recommend a visit to this cavern if you are in the area.As a bonus you can also stop by the Glanmore National historical site which is nearby.
It is a small place and you need to plan for other things if you are planning to visit Tyendinaga Caves. Plan for just this one for a day will be a waste
Worth a detour
Hidden Gem. This place could be planned as a quick or leisure visit. The guided tour takes only 45 minutes to cover. otherwise it is a nice and quiet place to hangout for a while. 35 feet deep you will be under the ground. 12 degrees all around the year. if you are visiting Sand banks pro park, Caverns is a must place to visit. tickets are 14$ for adults and only Cash.
Absolutely amazing experience! Nice cool (literally) caves with lots of history. Friendly staff and extra informative. Very well kept looks like it's from a post card.
It's a neat underground experience.
Went there didn't know had to make resevation. Girl working was quite ignorant and rude. Probably never going back
Pretty cool cave! Knowledgeable guided tour that may also include sightings of bats and spiders and fossils.
Great attraction that's a must! If your in Belleville this is one attraction to not miss. I came here with my family and we all enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and our tour guide was super awesome. We learned many things I did not know that I was excited to learn.
Can't believe I've never heard of this place! Went with our young kids, tour was engaging and exciting (if your kids like that stuff and can listen well enough to not get hurt). Whole path felt totally safe and secure, none of us were nervous. Tons of interesting local history. Our guide was knowledgable, professional, and very engaging.10/10 would recommend. (Attached pic of cave mushrooms!)
Not much to see here
If you go carry cash for tickets
Whole family loved it...... It was a different experience seeing limestone caves in Ontario..... Amazing
I see a lot of reviews talking about the cavern being small and things of that nature. Honestly it's 14$ per person. I actually think the price is more than reasonable for what you get. I fairly enjoyed it, I brought my date to It, and it was really fun and different experience. I actually was happy the caverns are more on the small side, even if it was twice as big, caverns are caverns lol after 20 minutes in there you get you fill and it doesn't need to be big. The tour guide really knew her text to perfection. I wish it was a little less robotic, but honestly there is so much to remember that she probably talks in that way to help say her text perfectly. I wish it was a little less rehearsed and more just talk to me about what you know kind of thing. But it's honestly a small peeve, she was amazing and she made the caverns so much fun, thank you! In resume, for what you pay, it was more than worth it. Also the surroundings is really nice. I say go! Book a tour, you'll have fun and something to talk about ! It's really fun!
AMAZING! Honestly the grounds are so beautiful and the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. Austin was a cute little tour guide and Elizabeth was very insightful! The cavern was so intruiging with the little well and side trails! You really have to see it in person. The cave is short but it's a great little introduction to spelunking for anybody interested in cave exploration. And because it's short I would say deffinitely kid friendly. There's washrooms (very clean) and picnic benches on site so make a day out of it and bring a lunch! The lilac path wasnt in bloom when I went but I hear its stunning during May 24 weekend. Week days are by appointment only but weekends are open and tours run every 20 minutes. It's worth the 12.50 for an awesome experience, and the free celenite souvenir was a surprise bonus! I'll be turning mine into a pretty wire wrapped pendant to remember my trip. - Mark and Andrea 2018 #Hamont
Small but very interesting and great experience. There's a lot of history to be told about the caves and the grounds and it's presented very fun and family-friendly. Definitely one of our most memorable and rewarding road-side stops!
Amazing! I wish there were more than 5 stars. Katrina was knowledgable, polite and informative tour guide. The best part?..... I can't ruin it for you, you just have to go and discover it for yourself.
Owner / Tour Operator Charles and Liz are wonderful and have done a great job in the educational displays and improvements to convey victors safely / comfortably through this amazing natural cave. No special equipment required, but non-slip shoes would be recommended.
Something different... great opportunity to teach the kids something more than an iPad
Knowledgeable & friendly staff, the caves & caverns were AMAZING!!! Easy place to find, was very well kept & price extremely reasonable.
This is a great spot to take the family, a group of friends or even a date! You can really take a step back in time. It’s amazing what kind of history and natural beauty we have in our own backyard! Tours are run very timely and efficiently to fit all needs. Love that it’s a locally family owned business. Thank your for sharing this hidden gem with many people from all corners of the world :)
Nice experience overall bit they were busy and it felt rushed.
Im thrilled that TC is open to allow me to host small groups of women now and then to sit in circle and just meditate in the quiet Darkness for an our or two, it was a lovely experience I hope to return again. thank you > Maureen
It's good if you happen to be near the area or passing by. It is not worth a special trip of more than an hours drive on it's own. "The biggest natural cave in Ontario" is not particularly huge.
$37 dollars for 2 adults and one child to see a hole that can be walked in 5 - 10 minutes at most. No stalagmites or stalactites. Its just a hole, not a gem. Hard to understand how the other reviews are not paid off. Look at the pictures posted on the reviews and you have seen basically everything already.
Love it .. take some time as this is very interesting
Not a massive cave, but a great experience! Our tour guide Julie was friendly and informed. The cave was really neat, and a good time for the inexperienced spelunker.
Interesting caves. Super friendly staff and owner(s).
A hidden gem that a lot of people don't know about.
A good place to visit.
Cool place to visit if you're into caves and history. The tour guide was engaging and it's a fun way to spend an hour. Just a note for those with kids, we did have to carry our toddler for most of the tour since the path can be a bit slippery. Not the best option if your kid is scared of the dark.
Smaller then expected
Pretty cool place to check out. I didn't know we had caves like that in Ontario
(Translated) I did not like that the caves were too intervened by man. much cement and the natural essence of the cave is lost. They look like a bunker rather than natural caves. (Original) No me gusto que las cuevas fueran demasiado intervenidas por el hombre. mucho cemento y se pierde la escencia natural de la cueva. Parecen un bunker más que cuevas naturales.
(Translated) Those of Peterborough are more motivating. a 40-minute visit. This is not worth the detour, if you are not from the region. (Original) Celles de Peterborough sont plus motivantes. une visite de 40 minutes. Ceci ne vaut pas le détour, si vous n'êtes pas de la région.
We loved the tour that the owner gave us, so many things we did not know about formations and fossils. It was not rushed and she took her time answering our questions. Awesome experience for our grandchild and for us grandparents. Easy to climb the stairs and railings were perfect for all of us. Thank you for such a great tour and experience.
A very cool place to visit (literally and figuratively). The cool temps in the caves were quite refreshing on a very hot day. Amazing natural feature close to our home. A must see for everyone!
Great tour! Friendly guide
Wonderful place to take the kids on a explore
Great place to stop if you're passing by on the 401. Our guide was great and the tour size was nice and small. The guide first gave a short history of the area and showed us a few caves on the property. Only one cave is open to the public but it's quite spectacular. There are also a few areas to explore and walk around on the property if you would like.
Good
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The experience was a great side adventure on our cross Canada road trip.
Great place to learn about formation of caves and sinkholes.
Took my 5 yr old daughter and she loved it. Great place with knowledgeable staff.
Wasn't really worth the admission price. We spent 20 minutes listening to the guide show us a few fossils behind a roped off area and a pit of gravel, when we finally got inside the cave it was a very rushed 10 minutes as there were so many people packed into the cave, we didn't get time to look around or take pictures. It would have been better if you were able to actually take in the cave instead of being rushed because there was another group at the top waiting to come in. She would also wait until everyone was standing right in front of her to tell her stories instead of walking while everyone made their way to her- which wasted so much time considering we could all hear her. If I had known we'd waste so much time not even being in the cave I wouldn't have even bothered.
Open 11am-4pm, good picnic area and easy access. Owners are friendly. Hope to see more sophisticated formation...
Great experience 10,000 year old cave located in Ontario. Although the cave was a pretty cool experience the tour was pretty short about 45min. You get to spend about 20 min inside the cave as it's not really big.
Very cool experience! We called day of to see if we could get a spot and happy we were able to. Family owned business, The tour guide was a bit dry but warmed up near the end. Family loved it and got some nice pictures.
Beautiful cave
Nice experience with kid during a rainy day
This is an awesome place to visit. The cave formations are fascinating to learn. Our family thoroughly enjoyed being in the cave.
Absolutely fascinating, but less than I had hoped for, given that they're the largest in Ontario!
Decided to detour through here on our way home from Prince Edward County, and I am so glad we did! I think the tour guide did a wonderful job :)
Great experience here! They take advanced bookings but when we called no one answered so we thought we’d try our luck and just go there. Luckily, there were a lot of spots and we got there just in time. The tour is very informational and the guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Got to learn a lot about caves and fossils. Family friendly and very interesting.
Nice to visit
We had a tour to ourselves and it was a beautiful place to visit. Learned lots and got a great tour of the property and caves. Very nice spot to take a load off and enjoy the cool and chill cavern.
(Translated) Very beautiful cave. We had a bilingual guide. Very accessible. (Original) Très belle caverne. On a eu droit a une guide bilingue. Très accessible.
Easy to find and well signposted. If you have been to a natural cave before then this one would probably seem rather underwhelming- large amount of concrete and no substantial natural features to be seen. Guide was enthusiastic and well versed. Won't be going back again myself but wouldn't discourage first time cave goers.
Drove from Montreal to visit...arrived at 4:03...last tour was at 4:30...found sign saying "CLOSED". WE HAD GONE ON WEBSITE AND IT HAD NO MENTION OF BEING CLOSED TODAY!!! What a dissapointment and waste of time...these people have no integrity... We will no longer trust to travel the distance to visit...shame on them for inconveniencing people.
This is a fun adventure. Won't take more than an hour for the full tour. It is pretty neat considering you'd never guess it was there!
Had a great time was a nice tour
Lots of cool history packed into a 30 min tour. The cave is very neat to check out and there is lots of small formations.
Excellent tour! Our parents enjoyed it as well.
Beauty
Took our little ones here today and we all enjoyed it. Ages ranging from 4yrs to 13yrs for kids and adults had fun too. I was also able to easily wear my 4mth old and do the tour. :) Staff was great and everything was clean and well kept. Tour guide was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend for a fun stop!
We happened upon this cavern just driving on 401. Nice clean facility. Staff was very friendly. The tour guide was knowledge and happy to answer our questions. We were able to enter a narrow passage, which was a very unique and fun experience.
