A powerful experience, especially for anyone connected to Ontario history and the history of Black people seeking freedom. Thanks to all who built, preserved and restored this church.

Wish it had been open but a cool place to imagine way back when

Well kept.

An important piece of African Canadian history. This historical location is the first church built by families of African descents in Oro Medonte. There are unmarked graves at this location. Proceed with caution and respect. No official parking is available but you can pull over on the road.

If you get the chance to visit this little church please go and visit .

This church was built but African slaves as well as military men who also fought in the war of 1812 as they fled slavery in the USA and settled in the Oro community. It was a different feeling as we visited. We were blown away to see my last name and my beaus last name engraved as those who are laid to rest in the site. The drive is lovely. The visit can be A long or short as you make it. Happy Easter.

The church has been recently restored to save it from the elements. It is the only known church of its kind still standing from the early settlers. It was a part of the underground railway.
