Here you have the opinions of real people who know the products of Museum of Civilization (Museum) in Asbestos area (Canada).
Currently the firm has a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 and this rating was based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is virtually the best one, and it is based on a large number of reviews, so we may say that the rating is very accurate. If many people have bothered to value when they are satisfied with the service, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to set scores when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Museum is classified in the category of Museum.
Beautiful and informational exhibits. The venom exhibit was one of the best in the world
A great museum to fill an afternoon in Quebec City. Located in Old Quebec it has lovely surroundings with a cafe that had a lovely looking menu (we'd already eaten so gave it a miss). The exhibits were all very interesting, creative and well displayed and they have some interactive children friendly areas that sound good.
Very poor experience, the women on ticket sales was dismissive and rude, the museum is not that interesting! I don't recommend this place!
Awesome. Check the London exibits. ????????????????????
It was the temporary Curiosities of the Natural World exhibit that grabbed my attention, and was probably the highlight for me - a selection of objects from the venerable National History Museum in London. But I found the combination of information and accompanying exhibitions for the permanent People of Quebec a little too eclectic, and started to skip over displays after the first row.
Visited this museum for a couple of hours, had a nice time wondering around the Explorer Tori area, and they had a strange Pugh exhibition on which was eye-opening needless to say
Must go on Free Sundays (if you're resident). Lovely and informative exhibitions. Very helpful staff.
Nice and interactive for kids. Clean and specious exhibits. If you go for a specific exhibit call before as not all are always open. Staff was friendly and informative.
Good place to go with children, most of the show rooms children can tuch things , all the family can tray costumes
The Pompeii exhibit is beautiful and fascinating, would especially be of interest to anyone mechanically minded as they get into Roman technology and so much more.
If you'd like to learn some about Quebec history and take a peak into items we use in our daily lives, a great place to visit.
This was good but expensive. We paid alot for parking as well. It isn't a terribly large museum but, good for a few hours.
Lots of fun to be had in this museum. There's a lot of exhibits so plan to spend a few hours here
Wonderful Museum but we had to short a time there so it is a be back for sure. Everyone working at the Museum was friendly patient with our questions and guided us properly.
It was ok for a rainy day but the content could be a little stronger. They offered a premium exhibit which I’m sure was great but hard to justify paying an additional $20 on top of the entrance fee.
Really good exhibit design! Bilingual too!!
An in depth history of Canada and Quebec. Also enjoyed the information on the indigenous peoples. But I did not expect the exhibit about how objects represented who we are.
An interesting building occupied by a museum that thinks that it is very important. I enjoyed the history of Quebec exhibits, but the "similar faces" and "rebuilding of London" exhibits were a lot of highly curated "so what?" Zzzzzz. Maybe fascinating for others, probably if you want to know all sorts of details on every group of native people that were in Quebec/Canada before the French & British. The bathrooms were nice and the location is good. IMO, it is worth going, but not a big deal if one misses out.
I did not like this museum. I am not the type of person who loves to go to museums but I wanted to give this one shot to try and learn some of the local culture. It was VERY boring. The exhibits were very BORING...not very interactive and lots of miscellaneous things that don't seem to present any historical value. The only exhibit I enjoyed was the aboriginal history one on the second floor. Still not worth the money though.
Cant really compare to the museums in Ottawa. Their exhibit on data and technology played like a public service announcement warning people of the dangers of technology. Overall seemed almost a hodge podge collection of things.
Great place for everybody. Enjoyed the many exhibitions for all ages.
It was an interesting place. Large enough to allow you to spend several hours there enjoying the exhibits, but not so large you wouldn't see it all in one day.
MAYA exhibition is great ????
Good for 1-3 hours depending on the interest of your children. Definitely a few memorable moments scattered throughout. Very clean and well designed.
Excellent exhibition of the advancement of western civilization. The pavilion of the First Nations people is very educational and moving. The layout is well done and the facility is first class. The docents were very friendly and knowledgeable.
I'm a history enthusiast and I was in this place for 2.5hrs. You will be able to experience fun and you will learn so much! My favorite part is the History of Poison.
Wow fantastic place with much to discover
A great place to learn about the city and province. The temporary exhibit about poop was decent. The Indigenous exhibit was large and interesting but glossed over residential schools and even said they ended decades before they did.
Experience was decent but they could do better for some of their exhibits that are dated quite frankly
Fairly interesting but other museums in area are better for families.
Very large. Lots to see. Made me want to learn more about Quebec history. Check it out, but make sure you have several hours.
Very interesting to see how Canada was established as a nation. And how the aborigines were treated. We did not see all the rooms. We also liked the section where you can use your senses to find keys. Funny and entertaining.
Hello, this is an experiment, how many followers you can get, just by sharing on Google. It would be nice if you follow me on Instagram ( @freezeagle ) and join in this experiment. Thank you so much☺️
It's an interesting museum about native Americans and Quebec history but I think that name is a bit misleading. I was actually expecting to see more about the history of civilization but it was more a history of Quebec. It's worth seeing it but it won't be a big deal if you skip it. The best part from it was the interactive exhibition of illusions (I don't recall the real name of it).
Could be better if had an exhibition about history of civilization. It was about poop, fishing, etc. Interesting but not that I thought
Great museum with a fairly reasonable price. Expositions change often and many are kids friendly.
Nice quality exhibits at reasonable prices. But my favorite part was the staffer who walked me in a side door when I asked about handicap access for my broken foot. That's service!
Very beautiful museum, great contents. Very rich and emotional feedback from those ancient times. If you want to know more about the first American nation, this is definitely the right place. Have at least four hours ahead...
I was not particularly dazzled by their collections and I felt many of the descriptions were worded vaguely. They often left me with more questions than answers. It is a nicely curated building, and the facilities were well appointed and taken care of. I also thought the history of Quebec exhibit coloured the past a certain way (as in, it scrubbed out our more shameful moments in history).
Its fun place for kids especially children museum. Kids can spent 2-3 hours easily there.
I extended my Canada trip to include Quebec City because of this museum. Well worth it! If you’re interested in history or humans this is a must see!
One of those small museums that you must visit. I love museums and visited hundreds.
You need do reservations earlier
Nice place to visit.Bit due to covid little activities have not started activities
A gem of a museum, conveniently located on the waterfront in Old Québec. The permanent collections are very interesting and well displayed, as are the other exhibits. A grand collection and representation of Québec, Canada and our First Nations. The website is easy to manoeuvre and has great descriptions of the ongoing and visiting exhibits. Check it out before visiting. When I visited they had an interactive exhibit for children, and London Calling. Bright, spacious and simply layed out, with comforts like a café, coat check, and elevator. Fun giftshop!
Our family really liked the Observation exhibit. Objects in the museum are displayed in an interesting way. Enjoyed the museum very much. Cafe food was ok, but expensive.
Great exhibits! I love first Nations exhibit. It was so interesting. I learned so much.
We were fortunate to stumble upon SUCH a great set of shows. We were lucky to have seen the video game exhibition which I didn't think I'd care for too much since it's not really my thing but you could try each of them out and it became a fun day out of the cold. Next we went to the belle epoque of Paris and my goodness was it ever well done. Definitely one of the highlights.
This enormous facility has a mix of permanent and transient exhibitions along with some interesting workshops. We've seen some fantastic transient exhibitions - the Samurai one a while back was very well put together. Check out their website for a listing of the current exhibitions, you may find something intriguing. As far as workshops go, the one on Earth is great- the earthquake chamber and the tornado machine are always popular with our students. Perfect place to blow off a few hours on a rainy day.
I think to know is great at this world
It's a good start to what has the potential to become a really great museum ~ it's still lacking in the number of exhibits that it could have, but it's *discover* exhibit was very amusing and fun!
A wide variety of exhibits for all ages. We spent an entire rainy day here and still did not see it all. Definitely a highlight of our trip for the whole family.
Great museum. For adults and for kids and teens. Awesome workshop!
A good museum for the whole family. We went for the "London Calling" exhibit which was "OK". But we explored most of the other parts of the museum which I found very interesting with a lot of different types of items to look at. We also as a family really enjoyed some of the interactive exhibits which were quite fun.
Interesting museum with free tours of the old quebec streets, and fun permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Very nice museum it's worth to go! I was a little bit disappointed with the London expo. But the rest of the museum was super.
Main floor exhibits not that good - too many items with no apparent thread to tie them all together. Best part - the Indigenous Peoples exhibit. Top notch; well presented, very informative.
Make sure you go down to the basement. Dress up and mLab were our kids favorite parts.
Extremely cool and in my opinion a must visit! I didn’t understand much of Quebec history and culture and this provided a really broad and inclusive deep dive into the rich confluence of French, British and First Nations peoples. Very, very cool, and thankfully bilingual. Loved the poison exhibit too!
The Museum of Civilization is an excellent QC museum. They have excellent exhibits on french history, culture, and the indigenous peoples of Quebec. In the past they have had incredible exhibits such as virtual reality tours of the great libraries of the world, and interactive exhibits about cats and dogs. However, it is a tough museum to return to frequently, as 80% seems to stay the same year after year. Would love to see an update of the collection of objects exhibit (not exact name, but is literal to what it is).
Great museum. Lots of interesting things to see. The history of Quebec evolution is shown there. It is really worth it.
Great exhibits - visited the economic history of Canada (covered trade with the First Nations and turning into a first-world nation), the First Nation exhibit (with detailed history regarding their way of life, relationships with other First Nations, and gradual loss of culture), inventions + design, etc. The cost to enter the museum is very reasonable, considering how much material is presented. I just wish the museum could have opened till late on longer days. It's a great way to spend the day and understand Canada. All exhibits are bilingual, but some minor 'object labels' may only be in French.
Worth a quick walk through, but better to visit other attractions and local events. If you like history museums, than this will be worth your rime.
Really loved this museum. Went to the Herge exhibit. Really fun.
Great spot was 4 hours with the kids
Nice place to visit.Bit due to covid little activities have not started activities
It’s worth going for everyone who is interested in Quebec history. It explains everything starting from the aboriginal people. Until modern history. Almost everything is bilingual so it’s convenient. Suitable for visiting alone or as a family trip. I personally learned a lot and saw a lot of interesting things there. It also offers very good deal for young adults who are from 18 to 30. A good choice in Quebec City.
Great place to take kids to enjoy the whole day
Really enjoyed this place. They have great expositions in there but I particularly enjoyed the one of Quebec City where it shows the development of the city from it's early beginning to it's current status. Definitely recommend this if you are around.
Great museum, I have gone there 2 times for a school trips. One is for the Tintin exhibition and the other is for the history of Quebec exhibition. The both times I loved it because of its open space area and its cleanliness. However, the place is a bit limitative considering it has only a select rooms open. Otherwise, the exhibitions are great and i cant wait to come back here.
11 dollars to get in, this place is incredible. We spent 4 hours in here looking at all the exhibits. Such a variety of historic, current and just plain interesting. A must visit if you are in the area. The poison exhibition was my personal favourite. Also the cafe is very good and reasonably priced which is a welcome bonus.
Took the family and had a fun time. Got the regular tickets, I would recommend the more expensive tickets to anyone else.
One of the great museum of Quebec city. There is always many very good exhibitions. The staff is friendly and professional. The place is well maintained and constantly renewing. It's particularly sweet during summer where you can eat outside in well finished spots. The access to the old part of Quebec city makes it a plus for making more of your day and/or paring it with anything that suits you in this effervescent area.
Great Museum but take time to look and enjoy it within old Quebec City. The First Nations exhibit as well done. Great things for kids to do there and the courtyard is nice place to have a cup of tea.
Very interesting collection of historical artifacts from over the ages. Tells a very compelling story of Quebec's history. Was interesting and revealing when you find gadgets you used growing up show up in a museum that one is growing old. Gave it 4 stars only because of the price of admission compared to the exhibits to see. Featured exhibits are extra cost. Still worth a visit if you have nothing to do outdoors in beautiful Quebec City.
It was fascinating! I’ve learned a lot about Quebec City! When I went to visit, they had the London Calling exhibition on and it was amazing seeing the works by British artists and musicians as I have always fancied British culture! There was a show called 2000-year-old double which really shocked me! I always enjoyed the Inuits exhibition they had. It always feels good to learn about other cultures!
Awesome museum. The permanent exposition is quite remarkable (for kids and adults). The other expositions are amazing and interesting. Worth the visit.
A great place for folks of all ages. My wife and I loved the exhibits. Our nearly three year old really enjoyed the key hunt and the costumes/ enchanted forest.
This museum is beautiful, and has some nice features, however, if you’re going to see something specific it’s best to do your research to find out exactly what you’ll be seeing. We went to see the Ici Londres exhibit, thinking we would see London reincarnated (especially given that there was a physical depiction of Big Ben and an Underground sign outside the museum, and that there was a black taxi at the very beginning of the exhibit). The description was misleading and did not mention this was a modern art exhibit. We were very disappointed. We decided since this was a bit of a waste of money to wonder into the Quebec history area, and that was a bit disappointing as well.
I love museums and this one is no exception Only issue is that there are only a few in QC City so I've been to MoC many times Exhibits are nice, presentation is always top notch I think I would love more temporary expositions but I love what we have Also well located, it is in Old Quebec, near plenty of restaurants and shops, once your museum visit is done, time to venture around!
Good use of time on a snowy day. Great kids section for cats and dogs. I liked the actors a lot. Beautiful facilities.
Very modern building with lots to learn about Quebec history and Business , First Nations and Inuit in the 21st Century , etc. Allow at least 2 hours
Great museum with a nice share of interesting collections and history about Quebec. There's a good café to enjoy a quick meal and a souvenir shop. Reasonable price, you won't regret
We really enjoyed the exhibits and activities at the museum of Civilization. It actually took a little longer to see and read and discuss everything so we were there more than 2 hours maybe closer to 3. Take your time and immerse yourself in the history.
Fun and interesting exhibits- as well, the staff were incredily courteous.
An exceptional museum that provides insight into Canadian history, as well as how it compares / contrasts with American history.
Spent around 2 hours here, enjoyed the exhibits, especially Tintin.
The place is amazing. Interesting for any age group.
Our science freak 12 yo daughter like thi settee than the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History
This museum is located Quebec and easy to go if you have the time to visit
Have a great fun here!
The museum is really good, you can come with all family there, it's very interesting place your kids can learn about a lot of things because the animators are ready for explaim the activities or things and also they can made a little play for best understand. This place is 100% recommend
Two permanent exhibits on the history of Quebec and several temporary, currently Japonese. All bilingual. About 90 minutes to make my way through it solo. More interesting than shopping.
Plenty of interesting and fun exhibits.
The level of diversity, information and unique exhibits make this a must see. We learned so much about the area, its history and the rich history of the first Nations. The interactive exhibits and areas provide a nice challange
Very enjoyable and easily done in a morning or afternoon. I enjoyed the indigenous and poisonous animals/plants sections best.
Lots of great exhibits at the museum, I really liked the First Nations room, one of my favorites. A very nice walk from upper Quebec down to the museum, it took us about 15 mins.. I would visit again, so much to see with just 1 visit.
Fascinating galleries and well laid out museum. Fun and thought provoking exhibits and pretty gift shop.
Amazing time there staff super helpful exhibits are unreal
Disappointing experience. First, the ticket pricing makes no sense. I’m not sure if they were joking when they said adult ticket pricing was based on age, but I paid more because I’m older than 30. (I pity the worker who has to make the judgment call of demanding ID from a female customer). Second, I visited because of the First Nations exhibits. Unfortunately, the exhibits were not comprehensive. I tip my hat to the video interviews but more background is necessary to understand the pluses and minuses of becoming Canadian citizens (thereby losing First Nation status under proposed Treaty terms). Major omissions such as this one make me disappointed in this museum and in this city. (February 2019)
Have a great fun here!
Decent museum with some interesting exhibitions. I liked the one about the history of Quebec. Takes 3-4 hours to see. Good value for money. Good for a Rainy afternoon to pass the time.
Great destination for tourists to visit!
Its excellent place, the art is very interesting and all place is complete cleanly. The personel there are very friendly. I recomend know it.
Great range of exhibits with an excellent sensory exhibition as well. (Towards mid April 2019) Great experience for two primarily english speaking people.
Great museum. Affordable (special price for students as well). When I went there was an exposition about poisons, it was really interesting. The permanent ones are great as well. Would go again
Totally worth a stop (or a big chunk of your day) when visiting Quebec City. Our kids (8 and 10) loved it and we learned a lot as a family. The indigenous exhibit was especially informative.
Very interesting learning about the origins and updates to Quebec. Not too long or boring and a great hands on exhibit to boot
Best museum in Montreal and maybe the best in Quebec. Outstanding comprehensive history of Montreal and Quebec. A must
We had a great time. Excellent exhibits. Highly recommend and will return upon another visit to QC.
Without buying a ticket with exhibition, there are practically 2 major halls to attend, 1 hour overall. Most of the halls were either under construction or accessible for extra pay
Definitely worth visiting. Lots of interesting information about Quebec, First Nations. Special exhibition about London was OK. The augmented reality app didn't work with my Android phone.
Good museum to for a family spend a few hours at during the visit to Quebec city. It is very small and has just a few exhibits covering the “Civilization” so don’t expect the comprehensive coverage :) Really enjoyed the multi-media coverage of Pompei. The museum did an amazing job and shared some extremely rare artifacts and got into some aspects of technology during that time that typically does not get covered. Adults and kids loved it. The “Merde” exhibit was done with the same level of care and, perhaps, given the subject of coverage had mixed reviews in our group. Definitely drove a lot of discussion afterwards though.
Good museum for those that want to understand history of Quebec. Excellent docent tours.
We spent quite te some time in the 'robot room' in the basement. Electrical circuit building, 3d- printing and -design, honing basic programming skills.. fun for all ages! (Even our 2-year old enjoyed it!)
Great museum, lots of fun for everyone in the family. There was a lot to do and honesty it's good to plan a day trip.
Exhibition on poop was a blast
Great museum but tours should be more frequent . It was a great way to learn the history of Quebec from the French view. Also it is a well renovated place with ever changing exhibits!
History of Quebec, exhibit on the brain was very interesting, Herge exhibit is a must if you are a fan of comic books. Interesting building, design and architecture.
excellent museum! such a great place for kids and adults alike. the exhibits are unique and gorgeous. this was my favorite activity we did in quebec city!
One of the BEST museums dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of it's people (Quebecois). Enjoyed viewing artifacts and reading about their place/purpose in the history of Quebec. Added bonus on the day we visited, listening to the local band "British Ovation" playing pop rock influenced by Anglophones and Francophones. Also enjoyed eating lunch prepared by Café 47 (the most beautiful inner courtyard of the city. The Museum's restaurant will charm you with its menu focused on local produce and its urban counter flair). Last piece of info, did you know residents of Quebec have free access to the Museum's exhibits on the first Sunday of each month, upon presentation of proof of residency. A "must see" when visiting old Quebec City.
My husband and I visited this museum on our recent trip to Quebec City. It’s an easy visit (not too large) with interesting exhibits to go through. The My 2000 Year Old Double was especially good. I also loved the exhibit on the native people who lived in the region as well as the beautiful old dresses that were on display. So quite a wide variety and something for everyone to enjoy. Definitely worth your time to go to when in Quebec City.
The interactive exhibits make going to the museum so interesting! Don't miss out on a guided tour if you can, try the nanotech tour, so fascinating!! Also the virtual reality exhibit for libraries around the world will blow you away!!
Cool spot to spend some time and learn about the history of Quebec. Interesting exhibits that are both historical and modern
Really great museum. When we were there, they had an English exhibit, and it was a lot of fun.
Wonderful exhibits! We toured on a rush but I found the diversity of exhibits to be quite impressive.
Beautiful museum with great activities for the kids. Really well thought out and entertaining for kids and adults.
Very informative and eclectic. We took advantage of two of the tours, the history of Quebec and an explanation of the experience of the indigenous peoples. I was impressed with the depth and impartiality of the explanations. A great museum.
Large rotating exhibits about world culture and arts, and engaging permanent exhibits showing artifacts from Québec history and Aboriginal Canadian cultures.
The best museum in Quebec City. Great exhibition for kids. You can find better in other cities but it worth visiting.
A good place where you can know about how quebec evolved as a city and how the lives of ancient québécois was. A nice digital media museum which tells more about latest advanced technologies, social media trends and AI robotics. There is also a collection of venom (poisonous) insects and snakes which exists in different areas of the world. Any one can spend more than 2 hours.
We visited recently and liked our experience! The place is filled with interesting exhibits especially the ‘Oh merde’ exhibit which really caught our interest! Ticketing is done online which makes it hassle-free when you get to the place.
It's worth looking into the special exhibitions but even without those this was a lovely museum. The section on the First Nations was especially moving.
The permanent exhibitions will teach you a great deal about Québec and it's history. But the best is the temporary exhibitions they set up from time to time. The building and it's architecture is a piece of art in itself and a showcase on what a good museum should be like. A must if you visit old Québec.
One of the best Museums to go to! There’s something for everyone (kids included!) and the variety is awesome! I go at least twice a year!
Very dynamic museum, lots of things going on, and very kid friendly.
Amazing museum. It was well organized and very educational. As a Canadian from the west coast, I feel like I learned so much more about Canadian history, and specifically, Quebec history. Some of the exhibits and videos playing inside helped me better understand what it means to be a Quebecer, and the unique aspects of Quebec culture. Such a unique and important part of Canadian culture and Canadian history. Highly recommend. Very thought provoking.
Loved this museum! So far the most fun I’ve had in any museum in Canada. Expected to be done in an hour but got out after 4 hours. Beautifully planned exhibits that are fun and informative! Definitely visit this place!
Really fun museum! Only $10pp if you are between 18-31. Great exhibits and also the opportunity to interact with the exhibits. Really engaging. Plenty for adults, but also great areas for kids incorporated into every exhibit.
Such a lovely place. It is very big, and some of the expositions aren't as interesting, but the temporary ones were great! Furthermore, the architecture and design of the place is incredible.
45 $ for family of 5, two floors, two hours is more than enough to explore this beautiful museum, history of québec is my favorite section.
We really enjoyed all the exhibits, but the First Nations exhibit was particularly exceptional. The museum was focused on stretching the meaning of Art and definining identity. Great experience!
The 1st Nations Exhibit was Outstanding! But easy to miss as the Museum layout is a bit tricky to navigate.
Great place but don't think you can visit the whole thing in one hour their is a lot of stuff to see, discover, and rediscover. Guided tour are knowledgeable and well trained. The structure is very clean.
Always like to go there and learn.
Museum was great however once we had paid to observe the Pompeii exhibit and one security guard in particular discovered we didn't speak French he honestly followed us throughout our entire museum tour. Everytime my wife and I turned to look at something else this one security guard was literally standing over our shoulder. I confronted him once and he turned and walked away only to peak his head into another exhibit we were observing. I felt like my complaint would fall on deaf ears so I used this forum to warn folks of the paranoia I guess of some of the staff. I'm not sure we give off the vibe of criminals but maybe we do. I know it was a nice afternoon of learning new facts however I will never return to give them fifty dollars of my hard earned money. It started to creep us out so we left. It was definitely a once for me experience.
Perfect museum for kids and adults depending on the expositions. Interesting permanent expo to discover Quebec and Canada history. Always super interesting and divers temporary expositions.
Beautiful museum, they have a very successful theater show for the kids, everyone looked hypnotized by the actor and having a blast (French language). The exhibition was quite interesting and well curated. We watched the Inuit exhibit and one about the brain and it's neurological connections. Quite interesting. Perfect place to escape the cold! Lovely shops, and clean bathrooms.
Liked a lot! Very well elaborared exhibitions!! Worth the visit! Nice building!
It's a bit small. But it's interesting, specially when you see the history of Quebec
Enjoyed the interactivity of the entire museum which makes it great for children. There was a robotics exhibit which included hands on programming guided by staff.
Very fun. Not a ton of exhibits, but the ones that are there are expansive, interesting, and interactive.
Reservation recommended
A cool place to check out. I only went inside the lobby area, very nice, seating available, but a bit pricey. The next time I go, I will pay to go inside. Outside, up the stairs, there is a large seating area with very cool artwork. And very quiet, hardly anyone was there. A great place to check out the sights from up above.
Wow fantastic place with much to discover
A perfect place to spend a rainy day! There is a surprise around every corner. This is not your grandfather's museum. Many of the exhibits are far less static and offer the visitor challenges. Very fun!
It's an interesting museum, and the sections I could visit were well curated, but has 3 drawbacks from my perspective: 1. Large school groups make concentration (and simply moving round) a bit difficult 2. Half the museum is only accessible by extra charge, and $17 already seems high since it's clear that most areas are commercially sponsored 3. It's really geared to the Quebecois population and is somewhat self-indulgent
A must see if you come in Quebec city in couple or with children. There is a lot of exibits (for adults and children). There is permanent exibit in the basement for children where you can put on costumes and roleplay fairytales. The costumes are made with different sizes so it fits young children older ones too. There is facilities for everyone and the prices are ok. There is also a place where you can bring your lunch and eat, a gift shop, a garden. You can spend easily many hours there without being bored.
What a wonderful museum !!! Be prepare to have a great day ! Perfect with the family !!
Very thoughtful exhibits beautiful building
Loved my visit with my nieces and nephew during the semaine de la relâche last winter.
Beautiful and interesting place, one of the best i've Ever seen, the information about the first nations is very interesting because is the point of view from the indigenous of Canadá, who since the Arrival of the britains until now where considered the lowest in the society and had suffered abuses and discrimination, si they remind us the importante of their culture and original beliefs.
Heritage and history of old Quebec City
Very nice exhibition of herge.
It was neat. I didnt really read any plaques or diescriptions because I had a time limit when I was there, but I really liked the venom and observation rooms.
LOVED this museum, partially for their exhibits, mostly for their creative interactive presentation of their exhibits. I enjoyed the architecture, use of glass and light and concrete. It was a feast for the senses.
If you are into history this is a good museum .parking garage across from it is not pricey.
Always like to go there and learn.
Had nice exhibits but there were four empty when we went. Will have more by the end of June. Atmosphere was super quiet, not very busy either. Kind of lulled us to sleep. Does not compare to others in Ottawa or Toronto.
Great egypt exhibition, they had a very noisy band playing on the day we visited it kinda ruins the whole quiet museum experience when they played,
It was a wonderful outing and I could arrange the use of a wheelchair for my friend. Everything accessible, everyone wore masks until we were seated for a light lunch. Delicious veggie sandwich. Enjoyed the Mayan exhibit, so interesting and informative. Spent so much time there so we'll have to go back for another visit to see all the exhibits. Lovely things in the souvenir shop. A beautiful day , excellent service and guides.
This is a must see place for families. They have great interactive exibitions, fun activities for kids and interesting shows for adults.
Great place to learn new things. Many exhibit per year and a possibility to rent the place for social gatherings.
Interesting, definitely something you and the family should do together. Really only thought the animal side of the lobby level was good. Everything else I think was filler
Cool place but if you're a tourist there are better places to visit. 4 or 5 stars if you have kids though!
Not what we were expecting. Many of the exhibits were under construction at the time, so not worth the expense even after the 20% discount from showing our musée des beaus arts receipt.
Although the regular exhibits are well done, the special exhibits were even better
Very interactive and fun for all ages.
Huge museum, and if you're with someone disabled you (and the disabled individual) can get in for free. I found that to be a nice bonus that they didn't have to give. Make sure to have at least half a day to go to every exhibit though. It is a massive museum.
I am sorry - perhaps I am not intelligent enough: I was overwhelmed by loads of exhibited individual parts that were together with other pieces without any inner connection. There were plenty of little explanations on the windows, but it was very difficult to understand which explanation does fit to which exposition part. I cannot at all say, that I was able to identify a real plan that knit things together. From my point of view there was also hardly any interaction between exhibition and visitors. Concerning the First Nations, I rather perceived - as in the other rooms - a relatively unmotivated putting together of things without much learning result. I missed much more deeper information and the addresding of critical quedtions of Québec history, for instance: the role of Canadian / Québec society and Catholic / Protestant Churches and the violent taking of Native American children out of their families into boarding schools (as far as I know, this even happened up to the 1950s). The diminuation of First Nation tribes through European illnesses during the time of landtaking and exploration by Europeans. The richdom of First Nation traditions concerning nature and generation responsibility and oral traditions. The problems of the Arcadian expellation by the British forces in French Canadian history etc. Before I entered, my expectations were very high - my disappointment was even much, much higher. I ambreally sorry and sad. I can't tell it otherwise.
I love museums, and this one rates high on the list! We saw the two special exhibits, Venom and Curiosities, as well as the regular exhibits. I found them to be really well laid out, with great information and exceptional artwork. The upper level had the history of Canada and Quebec, which I found really interesting! I was reprimanded for taking pictures in that exhibit (despite seeing zero signs for no photographs) but that just made me really focus on the material presented (but I had to dig to find a pen to make notes on what to read about later. This is only a minor inconvenience, and probably only effects me ????). I really enjoyed my time here! TL;DR highly recommend!
Really great exhibits, couldn't make it through the whole place in 2 hrs. Lot's to see.
Nice place for tour
Wonderful exhibition on the creator of Tintin. Great guided tour in English.
Visited on
An excellent choice for a family time. Count an 1,5 to 2 hours minimum for an exposition. If you want to see all of them, count a half day. Love their cafeteria with a windows to the port and great sandwiches.
Great family museum. Very interesting exhibits.
Several interesting exhibitions. Efficient staff
Interesting and varied zones. Really interesting and lots of interactive ways for all ages to learn and have fun. Eleven and under are free.
Just a wonderful place, highly customizable for any kind of event. Had to go there for multiple events and I am always amazed by the staff work in it. The exhibits I had the chance to visit was lovely and instructive, I highly recommend.
This has been one of the most disappointing museums that I ever visited. For starters more than half of the museum was closed off. The remaining exhibits were as dull as can be. It's a shame that a beautiful building is used to house such a small and lousy collection. Don't waste your time nor your money on this place....
We anticipate it will be wonderful, exciting, informative and we will enjoy seeing the pichenotte wooden game board collection
Some pretty strange exhibits. The 1st Nation's exhibit is really the reason to come here, but the rest is very strange and you feel like you have no context for the random things you are seeing.
Huge museum. Very interesting. Set aside at least 3 hours. One of the best gift shops.
Wonderful place to learn about the history of Quebec. Nice gift shop too.
A small museum, but the permanent exhibition provides very detailed walkthrough about the history of Québec and Canada. It's a must-see in Québec city.
The museum is really interesting. it's big, so be prepared to walk around for a long time. They have separated areas with different exhibitions. They have a science centre where you can test robotics or try a 3d printer.
Very nice museum.. Must see.. Somes exhibit are too expensive and missing interaction
This is a beautiful authentic restaurant Asia. We were served by this lovely lady who is the owner a very intelligent well educated Vietnamese lady. Hats off to her for her great achievements no wonder awarded by the Prime Minister himself.
Nice history museum with some interesting exhibits and always one rotating exhibit. They try to present stuff with lots of multimedia and from different perspectives.
Not worth seeing. Air conditioning was the best feature on a hot day. Other museums do a much better job of being interactive and fun.
The exhibition about new technologies was really impressive!
Most instructive and enjoyable place. Nice restaurant too.
Weekend
Kind of disappointing as not much of the collection is on display. Lots of flash and shiny hardware but short on museum content.
What a wonderful museum. Friendly and informative staff.
Had a rainy day during our last vacation and decided to stop by the Museum of Civilization. This is my second time and the exhibits were different. They were great both time I came by. Fascinating stuff!
Maya civilization was the best! Worth seeing. The exposition closes in early October. Hurry up!
Very nice museum, lots for the entire family. Needs about an hour or two. Looks like a great children events with dress up on the weekends only.
Would love to have visited. Researched before we came. Only taking reservations made days in advance. Didn't see any notice about this in the research. Very disappointing.
Lots of great exhibits, I think this museum is definitely worth seeing and worth the entrance fee. However I wish that the exhibits had arrows or signs directing you the right way to experience the exhibits chronologically. Went through an exhibit backwards and it was a bit silly!
Very interesting museum with a lot to see and learn. Everything from pre historic to modern times. Well laid out exhibits and lots of interactive stuff for the kids.
Nice & big building but nothing to show. Good location). This must be free of charge. Still cannot understand if this is a museum of civilization of what? Hall #1: history of computer games (!) REALLY???? Hall #2: history of Paris France (come on, it's not even on this part of the planet))))) Hall #3: modern art (!) REALLY??? Hall #4: Inuits.
Such interesting museums and the guides there are very informative and talk about everything in an intriguing manner.
It has very interesting things, it is not very expensive and you can come with children, the staff treats you very well.
Fantastic collection of galleries covering the history of Quebec. A time line of the development of modern Quebec is illustrated with hundreds of artifacts. An excellent exhibition on the First Nations of Canada address the many historical and present difficulties facing the indigenous population while also celebrating and exploring their rich cultural history.
Several interesting exhibitions. Efficient staff
Great for children. But not so much for adults. Most of the exhibits are geared towards small children. The main exhibit on the people of Quebec quickly loses its theme and becomes hodgepodge of random items. We have traveled a lot and gone to many museums and this was a let down. Save the high admission price and do something else unless u have small children.
This was a pretty amazing museum - and very large so it's hard to see the whole thing in one day. The lines can get rather long here during peak tourist times (especially in the summer) so show up early. The exhibits cover everything from ancient history to the modern developments of technology so it has a little something for everyone!
We were really disappointed. The exhibition about the aboriginal nations was decent. All the rest was just waste of time. There are some exhibitions which are not included in the regular entry fee which is frustrating. Too much of commerce and luck of creativity
Nice museum, not all sections were open though. It is not one of the giant museum that you wouldn't finish. It took us about 3 hours to go through most sections and we had fun!
I thought this place was really good. I have to start enjoying museums with out the kids.
Great museum! The exhibit with the history of Quebec was awesome and likely my favourite. Venenum and Curiosities was great as well and had a fair amount to showcase. I found the collections and artifacts to be small, but it is a smaller museum. I found I spent most of my time reading and not observing pieces or items in showcases. Overall a great experience, definitely worth paying the extra money to see the exhibitions because if not you're really limited to 3 exhibits.
Very good museum. Just make sure not to go on a day a cruise ship is in. It gets crowded so go early and beat the crowds.
Really good exhibit design! Bilingual too!!
Very fortunate to briefly visit at the end of a cruise. The staff was extremely helpful. The museum was equipped with some of the latest technology, allowing the use of your phone for self-guided tours. Two hours would be enough for a good overview; more time for a better appreciation of the exhibits.
Loved our visit. Purpose built building with impressive temporary and permanent exhibitions. Principally went to visit the Herge exhibition (which was fabulous) but spent hours, and could have spent much longer, looking around everything else too.
It was a great experience! Pleasantly surprised and recommend for eberybody. Very friendly environment for families with young kids and people with special needs.
Very insightful. Gave us a good understanding of Québec vs whole of Canada and Québec vs France. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed walking through time. Especially with the exhibits pertaining to Quebec City as well as alot of the interesting things that came from this area of our country.
As always, fantastic exhibits with intriguing content and great pacing. Friendly staff
MAYA exhibition is great ????
my kids loved it. stuff friendly, there are some areas that kids could interact. i saw some old tools that we use to have years ago. How do human developed during these years. They gave me discount list for other attractions in Quebec.
Really interesting museum, ask at the entrance for a guided tour (which is free), makes the museum more captivating.
the museum was beautiful, staff were so helpful! our favourite exhibit was the “Oh Sh*t” one! so interactive-as per the picture attached of one of many games to play there- informative and interesting. Maya exhibit was beautiful :)
Not very many exhibits. Overall relatively disappointing. Also two exhibits film you, in one case the footage is on a screen even after you’ve left. In another case you have no idea you’re being filmed the entire time and see the footage only afterwards. Very weird. Very creepy. Will not be going back there or recommending this to anyone.
Great museum for learning about the history of Quebec. Make sure to take advantage of the free guided tours: the guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and take time to answer questions.
Only the exhibit of the main events in the last 25 years is interesting. Other exhibits are quite boring, especially for kids. You can see the whole museum in 2 hours
No
Not really adopted well to English speakers. The collection seems nice but difficult to capture. The mobile app do not work.
Small uninteresting and filled with things for kids. If you are an adult looking to show how smart you are to your 12 years old then go ahead. Else there is nothing there to see.
Nicely presented history. This would be a good trip for 14-year-old students. The English translations weren't 100 percent, but I don't suppose we're the target audience.
I had a fantastic time here, it was well laid out and easy to stop and see all the exhibits. Even all the areas with lots of writing were easy to explore without missing much if you didn't read every tidbit. There was two paid exhibits this time which, in the price of the ticket, was an awesome deal and worth it. They may have been my favorite parts in the whole museum. The gift shop is also quaint and has quite a few special things there that are great for the price. The whole place has a nice feeling to it and is worth the time and money to stop and spend some time there. If you plan to look at everything carefully, I'd advise at least 3 or so hours for it all!
This is actually a great museum. Very accessible, the exhibitions are so well-done in that they are very easy to look at, to interact with. It's very close to the old city and the port which is great for visits. The currenr exhibition on missing and murdered native women is also very powerful. The building itself is spacious and welcoming which makes the visit even better! I would highly recommend this place.
Great place to visit while being in old Quebec. Not expensive to get in. Great way to spend a few hours learning about the vast history of Quebec and surrounding areas. A must see
Love this museum! Museum shares knowledge that helps define our civilization, by means of material culture and the social culture. It ensures the conservation and development of the collection - a witness of the culture. Therefore, the whole collection may look odd in the sense of being very common , things we use, touch and interact everyday. However, the everyday function infused with utilitarian philosophy, industrial mass-production and a touch of artistic mind gives rise to the beautiful tables we see in the grand library of Montreal, the BiXi bikes and etc. As a city of design, this museum gives you another angel to appreciate the accolades of Montreal.
Tonnes of stuff to take in. The cafeteria has some tasty food, surprisingly for a museum. Located in a beautiful old part of the city
Who would have thought that an exhibit on poop would be so entertaining? The other exhibitions looked great but 6 out of 6 teens were fed up with museum-ing after the poop exhibit. This was a clean, bilingual, covid19 responsible, and well staffed museum.
Another awesome find for museums.
Not a very interesting museum, more interesting for kids. There was not alot on display. I would recommend the musee des Beaux-Arts instead, there is much more to explore and much better exhibitions
We came by cruise ship and this was only a block away. So we stopped in...and stayed the whole afternoon. It was great! From the 'soft shell" photos (people wrapped in their entire wardrobe) to the aboriginals' stories, wonderful.
Nice exhibition, with multiple theme. I like the history of natives
On my own, was interested in learning about Quebec culture, but the place seemed too staged and not engaged or engaging enough... Just stuff.
It's a nice museun with alot of history from the old Quebec and the future that awaits us, for only 10$C for adult it was fun!
Interesting collection of exhibitions. I saw one ones on the development of Quebec, First Nations, and Toxins. The layout was not well indicated so working out where the entrance to each exhibition was located was a mystery tour. Exhibitions were wel laid out, with lots of text in French and English providing the back stories. Very modern building with excellent facilities and cafe. Some interesting artworks on the terraces at the top of the building.
Always nice to go back to this beautiful museum in Québec.
Big place great to hang out and explore. Nice displays and lots of interesting pieces. Some exhibits felt oddly big and had room for further development. Thanks!
It would have been great if they had the rest of the exhibits open. A lot of them were either under construction or only open during the week or only open to school groups.
Amazing place, good view from it's terrace.
Amazing place, good view from it's terrace.
The museum is small but well worth a visit. The exhibition of First-Nations and Inuits is superb. I also got to do a virtual reality tour of ten different national libraries around the world. Very impressive.
Loved the culture of This country specially the 1st city of North America, Montreal, you will find here soo many historical monuments here and you'll feel like you are in old times and mainly the detailed cultur exploration of Quebec to latest technologies and more.. nice experience love you French People's you guys are the Best
We visited on a rainy Sunday and had a great time. My kids (4&6) loved it. There is lots to see and the exhibits are very interesting. They particularly enjoyed the fishing exhibition.
It is museum of sheet. And a little bit else.
Plenty of interesting and fun exhibits.
Very nice exhibition of herge.
It's a nice facility. Not too expensive to get in. If visiting, I would start upstairs in the section about the native population. I got to this after wandering through everything else, so we didn't have much time to really meander about. There is some interesting info about the settlement of Canada and Quebec. The politics area was kind of uninteresting to me, but I guess it has to be in there. All in All, it's just ok
Varied and not too expensive. The poison and venom exhibition was amazing, very cleverly done - our 3year old even enjoyed it I realise the exhibitions will change out but from the high quality of our experience I can only recommend it.
Interesting stuff. My favorite was the exhibit of Quebec. The dogs and cats was kind of a waste of time and space. Group tour was taking to much space and not allowing us to see certain items.
I didn’t visit inside but just walking up to the patio/rooftop is beautiful. So breathtaking!!!
Great experience! Really enjoyed the two exhibitions we visited: "Head in the Cloud" and "Observer"!
My favorite museum. I like the architecture of the building and they always have at least one interesting exposition
Amazing to learn new things and have an amazing time!
Very interesting to visit
We spent several hours at the museum. The exhibit on Pompeii was excellent! There were several other exhibits that were also very well done. So glad we went.
It is museum of sheet. And a little bit else.
Excellent displays, loads to do for all ages. Great cafes, really good value.
Extremely well done exhibits. Many are interactive or have intriguing media elements. Knowledgeable staff are located throughout.
In visiting this museum it will give you a history of Quebec City. Lots of artifacts from all generations displayed well. Cost is ok & 22 dollars for 31 and older to enter the full tour of the museum or $17 dollars for the half tour. I found visiting the natural creatures of the world was worth the extra couple of dollars.
Good price for adults. Good fun and information. Has a cafe and places to sit in all areas.
Very interesting. Well organized.Everyone is helpful. Gives a great background into the history of Quebec and the development of different businesses
One of the finest and most interesting museums that I have ever been to. You could easily spend all day at this Museum. I contacted the TV show Mysteries at the Museum to do a show on one of the exhibits. If you like museums then you'll love this Museum it is exceptional!
Great with kids but gets very busy. Best to arrive early if you intend to go to the kids museum.
I think to know is great at this world
The museum has some nice exhibits and some really great First Nation/Native North American/Aboriginal and Quebec history exhibits. Please allow plenty of time (at least four hours, more if crowded) for viewing the exhibits.
Always love visiting museums and enjoying the exhibits. Even though we went during Spring Break and it was very crowded we didn't feel like we missed anything.
Always a good time here with our child. We visit almost monthly.
Very nice modern museum that documents the history of Quebec. The museum also has very clean public restrooms that are accessible from the lobby.
The exhibits were fresh and interactive. Who doesn't love experiencing being a cat and/or dog? Tours of particular exhibitions are also available. Got a bit scared in the darkroom though.
Interesting and fun exhibits. Lovely building.
We spent a few hours here on our trip to Quebec, and spent most of our time in the Pompeii exhibit. This exhibit was very very well done, super informative and the voice clips were entertaining, educational, and not monotone which was very important. They will supply you with headphones and USB adapters for your phone which is a very nice touch and we did not think to bring ours. Definitely worth a visit if you are into history.
I learned about history of Quebec
Great museum to visit while in town. They seem to always have new and fun bilingual expositions. We visited the Rin Tin Tin expo. It was interesting and well put together.
Beautiful and interesting. One of the best guided tours ever for the Hergé exhibit.
When it was the museum of civilization that had a fantastic exhibit upstairs. It was the coolest thing my kids loved it and so did we. That exhibit has been shut down and that entire section is being renovated..very disappointed. I would skip this altogether now there isn't much of interest, a Napoleon exhibit which is ok but a little dry, a gold rush exhibit which is ok and an exhibit of horse drawn carriages and sleds...yawn.
Excellent exhibits!
Fascinating museum that guides you through the history of Quebec and its people. There are numerous exhibits containing historical items, artifacts, and descriptions. It’s definitely well-worth visiting this museum if you’re down in the waterfront district of Quebec City.
I often go to this museum. The exhibits are really nice and the staff is well mannered for this type is place.
You are only allowed to see approximately half of the museum unless you pay the higher price and it is not like it is for a special exhibit. Okay place but it leaves a lot to be desired.
I've always loved this museum growing up.A huge thank you to Reyneiro for making my most recent experience a great one!
Interesting exhibits. Worth a visit while in the city.
Wonderful place to know the history of Quebec City.
I've been to Movies in the IMAX Theatre at Museum Of Civilization Before on my Previous Visits, Have also been there with my Grandparents on my Visit From Edmonton Alberta 4 years ago in August 2010 when I was 17 years old, have seen the Exhibits on the Floor Levels. Also Remembered I got my Picture taken on the RCMP (RoyalCanadianMountedPolice) Poster. I also got to Ride The Elevator on my Own for A Trip, went down to level 1 main Level of the Big Hall, also a Non Stop Ride up to 4th Floor & Came Back down again to 2nd Floor where my Grandparents were waiting. Really loved visiting the Indian History Exhibit & that's where my Grandmother's Friend was there, It was Wonderful. We also went to see a History Movie of "Horses around the World" Where all the Different places horses came From, after the Movie. We also took the Elevator from 3rd floor all way down to P1. It was a nonStop Elevator Trip to Our Destination to 1st Floor on P1 Parkade 1 Level. Museum of Civilization is another Place in Hull Quebec, Brings me Back Lots of Memories. Also visit Hull, Quebec Before Which is also across the Ottawa River.
We went there for "candlelight" and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a romantic, musical night
It was raining so we decided to walk to the museum and were glad we did. We spent four hours at the museum and found all the exhibits very interesting. This is a museum for all ages. Young children would enjoy the area on evolution and we noticed many young children fascinated with the section on the cultural changes in Canada. The section on poisons was also very interesting.
Exciting exhibts. Per usual however some content about indigenous folks minimized the experiences ofvresidential schools. I am writing the museum about these concerns.
Great place to visit , wonderful views.
Seemed very modern while still covering an enormous amount of history.
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our visit at the museum. When we visited in June, they had a variety of exhibitions, ranging from one on the Maya civilization to one on homelessness in Quebec and in Canada. We both thought it was a great idea to raise awareness about such an incredibly important issue, especially now, as the pandemic has disproportionately exacerbated its extent. Definitely do pay them a visit, apart from being a great museum, they seem to have a thoughtful mission.
Very interesting experience. Well laid out.Tours or independant experience. Coat check availsble. Parking across the street. Areas of interest to different age groups. I would recommend it.
Great museum, Affordable. Interesting collection of exhibitions. It is very big, One of the great museum of the city. The staff is friendly and professional. The museum is beautiful, such a great place for kids and adults.
Rude, militant and unfriendly museum guards. Mediocre hodgepodge exhibits, overpriced. Conveniently situated in the heart of tourist area within spitting distance from docking cruise ships. On 25 August 2019 my family and I visited the temporary exhibition “Curiosities”. As soon as we entered the exhibit, the museum guard warned us that our four-year old son must not touch anything despite the fact that all the artifacts in the exhibition were well protected behind the glass and there was nothing that could be touched. Although our son was very well behaved and close to us at all times, she felt that she needed to follow us closely throughout the whole exhibit (there were hardly any other visitors at the time). At the very end of the exhibition, there were suspended chairs which my son wanted to try out. When in use, the chairs slightly sway. The same guard that followed us approached us again and told us off in a rude tone that we should not sway the chairs. My son felt intimidated and started to whisper in her presence. He immediately climbed out of the chair and for the rest of our visit was visibly upset. I do not recommend this museum, for my money I do not wish my son or my family to be terrorized by museum guards.
Very enjoyable with lots of exhibits.
The temporary Mayan exhibition was the most fun museum experience that my partner and I have ever had. We will be back to view the rest of the museum!
great mix of historical and interactive exhibits
This a fun museum with unique and interesting exibits. The cafe was also really nice
This is a great place for kids as well as adults. There was an Observer exhibit that had rooms such as a cellar that was completely dark with padded walls and mysterious sounds to keep you a little worried. The special Herge exhibit had wonderful pencil drawings that brought the characters top life. The cafe was good too.
Seemed very modern while still covering an enormous amount of history.
Went for the London Calling special exhibit which was great but also loved the first nations section of QC history
Excellent educational museum regarding how the population grew
I thought the museum was very interesting, with so much information that we didn't have time to do everything in one day. What we did see was very informative about Canada history with its original people from the past. I'm from the UK and was visiting Canada for Christmas and new year ..
Fun place to explore art and design. History through furniture, clothing, toys, dishes. They are featuring a show that includes hats and shoes, a recent acquisition but the show is temporarily shut. This was disappointing. Another current featured exhibit, very eclectic, 400 objects, a World of Emotion. Everything from quilts to old toys to game consoles. The building is stunning and the central art piece as you enter os breathtaking.
The Pompeii and « O merde » exhibitions were both excellent.
Museum was interesting. Having to wait over 10 min to get our coats back from coat check was annoying though.
I only came here because some say it's a museum for kids and I need to find a indoor place in the winter time for kids to enjoy. However only part of it is really kids friendly. The first level and half of second level is your regular civilization museum stuffs that would be rather boring for young kids. Only half of second level have some fun exhibit for young kids to enjoy (adults as well). The basement level has a really small playground for kids that doesn't have much things, but my kids enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall with the limited amount of kids contents presented my kids (2 and 4) still enjoyed their time here. Spent about 2 hours in total.
Really impressed. It was way bigger than I was expecting with a really full history of the region.
For the structural building engineering, this one should be visitedfor civil engineering students
This museum wasn't at all what I expected. The type of exhibits here are unlike what I would expect about a "civilization" museum. There are exhibits on the brain, cats and dogs, nanotechnology and more. It's definitely a refreshing change after visiting a line of other museums previously. Check it out.
Really good information about Civilization, and environment protection knowledge
If you like art, this is a great place to visit in Montreal. Lots of paintings and masterpieces of Salvador Dali, Monet etc. You can even touch some of this art and feel the time of the epoque when it was made. The place has to be quiet, don’t talk too loud and respect other visitors. A gallery of modern art, just blown my mind
Got my two favorite things. An exhibit on poop and an exhibit on fishing.
The exihibits were good but there was a kids show in the entrance atrium which was unbearably loud and distracting. The noise traveled to nearby exhibits. These kids shows should be done away from the visiting public who just want to see the museum. Avoid the café/restaurant, it's very expensive as all museum restsurants are, but none of the food we ordered was good at all so poor value.
Great museum, had only two hours and needed two more because of the extra exhibits we bought. Well done, entertaining, worth the entrance fee.
Really impressed. It was way bigger than I was expecting with a really full history of the region.
The current exhibition has Darwin’s manuscript for On the Origin of Species! And the Indigenous exhibit is absolutely stunning as well.
Some very interesting exhibits. A few were very kid friendly as well. They were very careful to follow social distancing protocols and it was an enjoyable experience overall. They were also very English/Anglo accommodating.
We had a really nice informative tour by Olivier. He was so informative many people joined in. If you make it to Montreal hopefully he is working. One of the best tour guides I have ever had. Very informative and very clear in his presentation.
Wait time
Very interesting museum about the local Quebecois culture as well as the natives that lived on this land before the Europeans arrived.
Fascinating exhibitions on the history of Quebec and it’s people. Great value too, especially if you’re under 31.
A good variety of exhibits- loved the Poison exhibit
Amazing museum we were impressed a must do on a rainy day
The kids picked the Museum of Civilization because the reviews discussed 3D printing opportunities available here. There is quite a bit more to do in the Museum than 3D printing, however I truly valued all the exhibits. You can find a lot of kid-friendly activities here and plenty for grown-ups as well. Furthermore, check out the nice cafeteria on-premises as well. We spend most of the day here!
Good value for the admission price.
Today my husband and I toured the museum for the second time. Our first visit was probably 10 years ago. The first visit was made quite unbeatable by a young woman who served as our guide. We enjoyed the afternoon today. We learned about the history of the French connection with Quebec. The exhibition put a lot of history in perspective and made it all make sense. The Native Peoples' exhibit was fantastic! Our favorite exhibition by far. We learned so much in an hour and half. My only criticism is there was no mention of any any of the government's, both federal and provincial, of the aboriginal peoples. After an extended trip to western Canada, last year, we were introduced to the abuses of the past and current continued lack of support for the aboriginal and first nation people. Since we are from the United States, we claim no moral ground here. Our country has a horrible past of abuses and the treatment of our Native Indians is no better and possibly worse. However, I do feel an honest history is always best. I have the same criticisms of "history" in the US. I would have liked to understand the history in full. I came back to our apartment and spent a couple of hours looking things up. You did succeed in provoking a lot of questions! The museum is well done and we will visit again in the future.
Didn't have enough time to see a lot as we arrived with less than an hour before closing. It is a beautiful, modern, all encompassing museum the covers the history and inhabitants of Quebec. A must place to see. Will definitely return to see more.
Never a fan of museums, but our visit there really opened my eyes into how museums can help us understand history and how we got here and where do we go from there. After the visit, I really have a much better understanding of how Quebec came to be, and the major events that took place here that defined the place, and the challenges facing Quebec in the 21st century. Must visit for yourself if you come to Quebec, to know a place, you have to know the history of the place.
This was a lovely spot, we climbed up after walking around the old Quebec town, so it was tiring, needed a Tim Hortons fast. Beautiful park though.
Check which exhibits are open and which you want to see. When I went, 2 of 5 exhibits were temporarily closed.
If you're 31 years and older stay away from this museum, because they really discriminate against you for being old by making you pay more due to your age. Young adults aged between 18-30 are the ones you have most of the money. They do this because they believe they are more important than you, and they believe millennials aged 18-30 are the most important patrons. Spend your money somewhere where they don't discriminate. Advice to the people who run the museum: These millenials are exploiting the discount because I had no room to talk and a bunch of them were taking away room for me to walk. Make millennials pay the same rate as the middle aged, people ages 18-30 are grown adults not children. Think more about increasing funding and satisfying older patrons, even if it means scaring away some if the spoiled entitled millennials.
Great bilingual location! I only speak English and I could understand everything there. They have kiosks and a service desk to buy your tickets to give you options. Lots of interactive, informational and engaging exhibits and shows. I've never been so intrigued and involved with history and facts like this before! Had loads of fun and would highly recommend!
I spent two hours at the museum...just in the ‘C’est mon histoire’ exhibit. While the static exhibits were interesting, the best part were all the videos from First Nations people telling their stories. They covered everything from the traditional way of life and how they live today and preserve traditions, to the horrors of residential schools and assimilation, the treachery of treaties, the violence and disappearance of First Nations women, and the legal issues which remain and determine who legally gets to claim First Nations status. So informative. Also loved the terraces above the museum for a quiet sit away from it all.
An alright museum with some interesting exhibits. We opted for the London exhibit also which was largely clothes and an assortment of smaller stuff.
Very cool place - very well done.
The museum is absolutely beautiful. I am sad we did not get to explore more. We were only there for a shot time, to see the body cage of Marie Josephte Corriveau. Glad we did get to explore a little. Highly recommend when visiting Quebec city.
Wonderful exhibits and courteous staff
We enjoyed our visit. Excellent exhibitions that were beautifully established and keenly interesting. We felt fortunate to see the special exhibit on Herge, the creator of The Adventures of Tintin.
Good, must visit, ticket price for 1 around $11 to $17, depend on your age
As a tourist, I underestimated the amount to do here. I literally could spend an entire day at the multitude of exhibitions and galleries. Highly recommended for everyone.
Interesting variety, history of Quebec, First Nations exhibit . Many audio visual displays, a person could spend a lot of time and learn a lot.
The special exhibit on curiosities of the natural world was great. The special exhibit on venom was also good. The best room, fabulous for kids, was Observe. Optical illusions, move by touch, move by sound, etc. The service in the cafeteria was slow, but the tomato soup was great. I definitely recommend this museum.
Wonderful experience loved the exhibition First Nations & Inuit in the 21st Century.Spent three & a half hours in the Museum and was totally absorbing. Recommend taking the tour with the Guide through the "People of Quebec Then & Now".Brillant understaning of the development from the beginning to current day.
this is an amazing place, they have 5 different area that you can visit. their reception is very friendly, they give you so muchinformation. you need at least 3 hours to spend there. after 4 it is half price so if you dont have time be there around 10 minutes to 4 and get the ticket right at 4. I highly recommend visiting the indiginous and modern quebec. Have fun
Nice overview of Quebec City history combined with a meaningful and well done view of native history in the region. The extra exhibits we're great at the time of our visit.
Nice museum. I would go here on a rainy day. $10 for 18-30 year olds, $16 for above 30, and $5 for below 18. The main exhibit gets changed out every so often. My favorite was the neuro/brain exhibit; it had a lot of interactive stations. They also had a section on nanoparticles, Qubec history, and tribal history. Even in 2hrs we couldn't get to all 3 floors.
Nice exhibition, with multiple theme. I like the history of natives
Great museum! History of the Quebec and First Nations halls. We really liked the “experimental” exhibition about the poop. ???? Smth we never saw before. We also liked the museum cafe. Usually such cafes don’t have good variety. However, this one had lots of healthy options for lunch (like soup and salads). Delicious desserts. The museum also has small playground in the basement and robotic workshop.
