We have the opinions of people like you who purchased the services and products of Canadian War Museum (Museum) in the territory of Asbestos (Canada).
At this moment this firm gets a score of 4.7 out of 5 and this rating was based on 127 reviews.
As you can see its rating is basically the best, and it is founded on a large number of scores, so we may say that the assessment is very reliable. If many people have bothered to give their opinion when they are satisfied with the business, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to set scores when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Museum corresponds to the category of War museum.
Amazing museum. Very nice exhibition. We liked it, but not enouth time to analyse all the information. We will come back.
Great day out place
Amazing displays. They have Hitler's car there
Good exhibits. Could use an upgrade.
This museum is really well done. It has enough to intrigue everyone and organized by time periods of wars. The displays are varied to be quite appealing with large text, personal stories, equipment, film, maps, photos, all with nice explanations of the situations depicted. The large room in the lower level with actual tanks and other military equipment is an interesting walk through. Well worth visiting.
Considering the subject matter the museum is outstanding. Quite moving. (allow 3 hours)
Great place that hosts lots of fun events. I was there for the Winterman run and had a great time.
Really amazing museum. Lots of information, you could spend 2 hours in each exhibit. Facility is really nice, high ceilings, jagged roofs, it's very interesting architecture. Not a boring part in the museum, has a lot of artifacts. Some are Billy Bishops propeller, hitlers car, and even some clothing with bullet holes in them.
Good exterior architecture and interesting and intellectual interior design as a museum
I’m not usually particularly interested in military museums but this museum is totally something! I spent over two hours wandering around these fascinating exhibitions. The way how the history represented there takes you all in.
Nice museum, lots of information and displays. Parking was $2.75 per half hour, max 13 for the day
Nice museum of Canadian warfare, structured route into 4 parts. It's very long and detailed, better to divide into more than one visit. We took 1,5 hours and just flew through. I was missing some kind of a story though, the information seemed to jump from one topic to another without better explanations, especially for me as a foreigner who doesn't know the general history here.
When I visited Ottawa, I went to Canadian War Museum. There is a lot to see but at times it became boring for me
My favorite museum In Ottawa. They play sounds over your head depending on which war you are in and it really makes it feel like you were on the battlefield. The replica battlefield sets are really immersive, definitely walk into all of them.
Will have to visit the place. Had a quick overview during the Blues Fest festival.
An outstanding and great museum different from many others due to all the real items and vehicles they have on permanent exhibition. This musuem was created to honor all the people who fought to preserve Canadians freedom, liberty and peace making this a better world to be enjoyed by supporting other countries when it has been necessary. This is the newest location for the Canadian War Musuem on the south bank of the Ottawa River which opened in 2005. Originally, the museum began in 1880 with a collection of military artifacts. Later it was moved to an archives building in 1967 on Sussex Drive. These location is impressive from its outside to its inside, you will enjoy all the things you will see and admire it for many things. The silent thinking will be a common state of mind while walking through it. It will amaze only by being there. If this is your first War Museum, you will go out feeling different from when you enter, closer to the feeling Canadians have to honour their heroes. You will also see many objetcts from other countries related to world historical events. No more spoiler alerts, you will discover them and like them. Highly recommended to visit this museum.
my grandson's first visit. Would love to see a separate section dedicated to CF members acting in emergency needs (at home and away).
TL;DR Excellent. A must visit. The architecture of the museum (its inspiration, the architect's life story), the history of warfare over the years and the collection of artifacts (aka tanks, guns and whole lot of metal beasts) is simply awesome. Been there twice already, won't mind again. Probably the best museum in Ottawa.
This is an excellent museum for all ages with plenty to see. Thanks to programs like “Operation Veteran,” they also take good care of veterans visiting the museum by treating them with the respect they have earned. If other institutions had the conscience of this organization, the world would be a much better place.
Historical Canada museum with a plenty of fact and knowledge you can get.
Amazing displays that touch you in many ways. So much to see and to reflect upon.
Super fun and insightful ! Rather long and not interactive enough , since they removed stuff with the pandemic , but not crowded too much ! You should prepare for at least 2 hours if you wanna see everything!
Terrible experience. I was here years ago and it was much, much better. When walking through the exhibits, a large percentage of the lights in the display cases were turned off. This made it difficult to see anything at all. Brought it up with the staff at the front desk and all they said was " yeah, we have heard that quite a bit". Do not waste your money. Alot of great stuff here, but what is the point if you can't see it?
Great Place. Walking it's good for a rainy day or very hot day as that's when we went in
Outstanding. Beautiful, brutal work of architecture with thoughtful exhibits.
Everyone should go here. Lest we forget.
Very informative and accurate museum. They have multiple tanks and aircraft as well as artillery pieces from multiple theatres. A must see for any military or history buff.
Its enjoyable and I learn something knew every time I came just I wish they would add some new exhibits from time to time.
Lots of really interesting information, takes time to go through it all thoroughly. Lots of great authentic war relics and memorabilia. My favorite part was all the tanks on display. Kids enjoyed it as well!
Amazing museum. A complete timeline from early history to modern day. Origins of Canada were fantastically presented with high quality content.
Place was good. Great experience.
Great experience! Probably needs about 4-5 hours to go through all the exhibits. They also have free hours, you should connect them to see when.
If you have ever an interest in history, or that you are part of a military family, this war museum is one of the greatest I've ever been.
A place I think any canadian should visit once. Alot if deep history is told here, the museum has done a fantastic job through the years acquiring and displaying authentic items from previous wars.
This should be a MUST visit when in Ottawa. The displays here go well beyond expectations. It includes engaging information on All conflicts involving Canadians. This is a MUST to see for all young and old you will leave with so much more knowledge of these events. Definitely allot at least 4 hours and even then you will not see everything.
Great place to learn about Canadian wars. I haven’t got a lot to say about it but, it’s fun and worth the large price. At the end, you can see a piece of the Berlin Wall and a gigantic room filled with tanks, Soviet ara weapons, Nazi germany weapons, it’s awesome. You can also see hitlers car.
A great collection.
Awesome tribute to Canada's involvement in wars through the ages. Lots of war toys to enjoy
Well, it’s a Museum.... The building is beautiful, the lobby is gorgeous, however, the gallery’s seem dated. The experience was underwhelming. Improved lighting is badly needed. The area with all the tanks was certainly the highlight of my visit.
I was expecting more. Except the black Mercedes there was nothing rare or worth seeing. Old rifles, 3 tanks and a planes. A lot of medals.
Absolutely awesome collection of artifacts, stories and vehicles. 100% recommend.
Amazing exhibits, a lot of parking , accessible by a short walk from Parliament and public transit. Prices are reasonable for the size of the exhibit. Highly recommended!
Really surprised at the lever of detail and care that you can find in this museum. A wonderful experience. Whole family enjoyed it.
>Lots of really good historical information >Old bullets, guns, jeeps, tanks, even planes and parts of ships and submarines >At certain points, old scenes have been recreated. (Trenches, Canadians fighting in Italy in buildings etc.) >Covers history in a chronological fashion which is very neat. >You can easily spend an hour to a day in the museum depending upon your curiosity. Plan for at least 3 hours at the museum. >Folks working there are super helpful, bilingual and knowledgeable. Museum is divided into 4 sections: 1. Battleground (Wars on our soil, earliest time to 1885) 2. For Crown and Country (The South African and First World Wars) 3. Forged in Fire (The Second World War 1931 - 1945 era) 4. A Violent Peace(The Cold War, Peacekeeping, and Recent Conflists 1945 to Present) Ticket Price: $17 for Adults ($19.21 including HST) Grab a museum guide from the Ticket counter. Parking: $12.50 for the whole day || $2.50 per half hour || $6 between 5PM to 6AM
Great presentation of all the artifacts and information. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.
The Museum always has great special exhibitions. On now, Highland Warriors.
A must see in Ottawa. Awesome history that you can touch. Went for the muay thai fights!
Extremely informative and interesting for those who are into history, especially the world wars. Very humbling experience. It's all very well presented with some amazing artifacts. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Ottawa.
Very informative and easy to navigate museum showing the many wars of the world. The tanks are definitely worth a viewing as well
Deserve to visit ????
Fantastic museasm filled with the history of our past. Wonderful tour guides inform you when needed, and they have great exibits.
Speechless. If you like military and war history, this is the place for you. It’s sorted into 4 “eras”- early days- periods up to ww1 -ww2 and Cold War. Shows the realism of what people lived in, experienced and more. Spend 2 days here and could have spent another. Accurate information as much as I can tell, so many things from uniforms, helmets, medals and so much much more. Many of the “heros” is the war have their recognition they deserve. Shows why we should be proud to be Canadian.
It's a really organized.
Very cool museum. A must see! Be prepared to walk lots of stuff to see and good distance. Bring small jacket as it is a bit cold in same areas!
Great place to come in a group (3$ per person), or with your close ones. I'd say to come and visit this as an adult if the last time you came was as a kid. Just like a good movie, there's always something more that you learn, see. The museum offers different prices for different vocations/ages. Legend also has it that they have a lot more in storage than is display, so there are item rotations. Also, note that for groups, they have lockable areas for people to leave coats, bags, umbrellas, etc. Nice feature I think. Cheers
Amazing museum. Very informative and the exhibits are nicely done. The hanger with all the military vehicle was very cool. This museum makes you think about our history in war and that it hasn't really changed much. War never changes sadly.
really awesome. a must see in Ottawa
Great place to fly kites on their lawn out front.
We must never forget mistakes of the past. 'Nuff said. BTW, very awesome.
I am happy i have chance to take a look this place. It is very special experience
Great museum hade so many things takes about 3-6 hours to do the hole thing
Pretty cool collection of stories and artifacts
Great museum, with the history of Canadian participation in wars and the whole history.
A great spectacle to go to, the building in its self is worth a visit. The exhibition is well laid out and staff are very pleasant. Learn why the Canadian’s went to war (World War II )
Nice place, there's was a lot of content. We were visiting with the army.
Wonderful place with whole history of Canadian war right from world war 1 to recent time weapons. Very well executed with audio-visual and chart illustration with real models of tank, ammunition and weapons from world war 1-2. Hitler's Mercedes and those tanks in basements were prime attraction. Must go if you are interested in war or Canadian history.
So completely immersing that I didn't even watch the time, 4 hours and I still needed more. I highly recommend you visit and take your time.
We need to respect our soldiers the fought for our freedom
Interesting museum with cool pieces but the showcased items do get kinda repetitive after a while.
Free for military personel and 3 family members. Lots to see and the gift shop as good memorabilia
War History flows very well, special WWII expositions is very interesting and professionally well presented.
A great collection of historial relics!
Actual art in the museum, it's also handicap friendly and fun for the family.
Amazing museum.. definitely recommend!
Building looks big but very easy to navigate, you can follow the path easily to get the full experience. A good museum to spend some time exploring and learning. Last section covers Canadian efforts in the twenty-first century so it isn’t just ‘old times’, it’s a reminder of what has been happening in the last few decades.
2019 0520. with dad
Much more appreciation of the work our forces do after visiting. Kudos to the team for the upkeep and preservation of items, equipment and stories which allow us to value the time and type of life we're given today.
Great Museum! Plan 3 plus hours to see everything
Much more room nicer than the old building
So far, the best museum of Ottawa.
Fun day !
A fantastic tribute to those that have served our country. It is tastefully done and informative.
I loved this place. It has sooooooooooo many artifacts from history of Canada. I love the uniforms, tanks, airplanes, and do not forget Hitlers' limousine. Oh yeah, there was a real AK-47 that you can hold but it is held by bars, so you can not take it out. However, overall the experience was great. Me and son are both history buffs, so we loved it. My wife and two daughter liked it as well ... Irrespective of gender, its great for everyone, especially for history buffs.
Not for kids! Very few interactive exhibits and none for young children. The Science and Tech Museum and the History Museum both have dedicated children's areas that are great for active children. It would be nice if there was a way for the Museum to find a way to help young children develop a basic understanding of conflict AND conflict resolution; i.e. activities and interactive displays that feature themes around teamwork, collaboration, global geography, relationships, discipline, respect, culture, diversity and inclusion, etc. This is a missed opportunity. I do recommend this museum for those wanting to gain a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices of our Canadian forces and war veterans.
Awesome place to come across to the contribution of Canada in the world wars and the peacekeeping forces currently. The place is nicely segregated among other wars and time periods. It's has got the amazing collection of Tanks and an aircraft in the basement.
A fantastic place to finish the best in Canadian & Commonwealth military history.
Interesting to view the display on Afghanistan in view of recent events in 2021
The Canadian War Museum was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Ottawa. I was really looking forward to visiting here and the museum didn't disappoint. I went during a weekday and found it wasn't too busy. Also the price of admission is very reasonable for how high quality the displays are. If you are a big fan of history, this is one place you don't want to miss.
Great in-depth museum on Canada's military history. The special temporary exhibit with the Highlanders was really insightful and the permanent exhibits were fantastic as well. They were very complete and educational, and the gallery at the bottom of the museum was really interesting.
One of the must see museums in Ottawa. Experience the wars of Canada over time
Super interesting museum displays on all Canada's military history, could easily spend a whole day here
Canada wars and rebellions. But not just the hardware, how it affected people.
Very well laid out and informative with great visuals. A lot of information to soak in but very interesting.
Fully enjoyed my visit. Lots of visuals and representations. The museum went above and beyond with information for the children. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
I planned on being there for 4 hours, ended up reluctantly leaving when it closed after 6 hours. So much detail, both on a personal and macro levels. Equal parts astonishing and heartbreaking. Well worth the visit.
I've must of gone to this place probably 10 times now. Every time it gives me Goosebumps. And I feel the energy of all who gave everything for the development of Canada and our way of life.
People tend to be scared when they hear about war ,however in this instance you learn the reason behind certain wars , the amount of courage it takes to go to war , to maintain peace in this world. The staff is extremely kind , you have access to a food court, and restrooms are very clean. You better keep your guide at hand cause it sometimes easy to loose track of where you are. Enjoy your visit !
This was a must visit for me. The museum's huge and has a tremendous amount of static displays. Tanks, field equipment from WW1 and WW2 are there in great numbers. I enjoyed them all whether Allied or German ordnances. The other displays in various themes and eras offered insight into the dynamics of war and the futility of war as well.
Amazing museum
We must remember our past. A great place to commemorate those who gave their lives to make the world a better place, and continue to do so. A must visit.
great place to learn about the history of Canada in conflicts around the world and be able to see a lot of the machinery involved during those times.
Great museum! We enjoyed it with my child. Maybe best for older kids, as it is more understandable if they can read things themselves. But still, my boy was very curious the whole time. There were some surprises for me, I was pretty impressed with the whole experience. Great museum!
I can't express enough how amazing this place is. The collection of military artifacts is mind blowing. A full day spent here isn't enough to take everything in. I visited 3 times in the past 2 years and my most recent trip to Ottawa (from New Brunswick 1000km away) was centered around visiting this amazing museum. The staff are very friendly and always eager to help/share what they know of the items on display. The collection of military vehicles is especially unique with both Canadian and captured peices. Lots of tanks!!!! Great selection of food at the restaurant, lockers on site and a free coat check.
Awesome place
Amazing galleries with great information.
I wasn't too enthusiastic about visiting a war museum, but it was on the list of things to do in Ottawa. Decided to go Thursday evening when the museums are free. Turns out the museum is fantastic. It is organized well and very educational especially for US citizens who have always been taught war history from our own perspective. Great war artifacts including the largest collection of tanks that I have ever seen in the lower level.
Wow what an amazing experience. This was my fav place to visit over my visit to the Ottawa. There is so much stuff to see it's unreal. The tanks are the coolest. So many of them!
This place is AMAZING! A must go to for anyone history buffs!
Wonderful museum with lots of interesting exhibits. Including a limo used by Hitler, SUV hit by a IED, real tanks (Canadian, Soviet and German), guns, uniforms, and even a U-boat torpedo on display. We only spent a few hours there and definitely not enough to explore everything. Can easily spend a full day there. Parking is in underground costing $13 and $20 if there's an event. Admission is free after 5pm and the museum closes at 8pm on Thurs.
An Ottawa classic! You could easily spend 4 hours reading and looking at everything. Love that all staff we encountered were bilingual.
What a great museum spent a total of 4 hours here. Very well done exhibits
We have visited several times as our children have grown - there is always something to grab their attention. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A good half day experience
This is a great place. I loved seeing the tanks and all the other pieces of history from various wars over time. It made me incredibly proud to see first hand bullet ridden cars in which our men and women in uniform withstood to promote peace all over the world. May God bless them and their families
Awesome place to learn the history of Canada and interesting collection of war items
Had a great time, we spent about 4 hours in the museum and another hour in the shop and restaurant. We learned quite a lot on our visit and would highly recommend to anyone.
Awesome museum if you’re into war history
During the epidemic, you must make an appointment in advance. The appointment time is every Monday. After making an appointment, entry is free. After entering, tourists must be divided into groups, and each group has a tour guide responsible for the explanation. Tourists could not be free Walking around, the visit time of tourists is within 2 hours. After the tour guide explains, visitors must leave the museum. In addition, half of the venues are not open.
Loved the exhibits..Anne Frank exhibit was a little disappointing but enjoyed it..
Fantastic. I wish I had the time to spend an entire day there. I only had a few hours and I had to rush through, unfortunately. There is an excellent section on WWI with photos, videos, relics and historical information on many soldiers. There is also a great section with more recent wars like the Afghanistan and other countries. There are tanks, trucks, and other equipment that was actually used and they each tell a story. Well worth the visit.
Plenty of historical war weaponrys on display from different eras with the real stories behind them. Huge place for spending your time so be sure to go in early to get the most of it. It is a must see. Ample parking outside.
This museum was huge! Definitely worth a visit if you have at least 2-3 hours of time. The way they made routes through the museum was very helpful. The different ways in showing information (text, visual, touch, sounds, etc.) was very nice. Especially since there is a lot of information passing by, it is nice to have some variety in experiencing all of this. At some parts we thought there was just too much text showed, that you not always know were to look at. At the end we were kind of tires of having seen so much. But still, definitely worth it as far of what you get for your money.
We've been many times but went to see the Highland Warrior exhibit recently. Absolutely amazing, without overembellishing the truth and they had replica swords out to see and hold (under an employee's supervision)
Such a well down museum. Lots of interactive elements and compelling information.
They've done so much with the space and you can see the attention to every detail. I highly recommend the tours.
Everyone should visit once in there lifetime.
Canadian War Museum
Great for A visit, not so great for repeated family fun with kids.
This museum is a definite must if you are visiting Ottawa. both emotional and impactful, it is a stark reminder of where we have been historically and hold lessons of the repercussions of war. Their are war veterans on hand to assist you and answer questions. I was very touching to visit the WW2 section as my grandfather was a WW2 POW and part of the Algonquin Regiment, and to be able to speak to veterans who openly shared their experiences when asked. This is a vast museum with magnificent and expansive display- I definitely recommend setting aside a good portion of a day to see it all. veterans and those who are/were military are admitted free.
Good displays not very interactive a bit on smaller side
Outstanding
Learned so much! I like to take the time to read everything when I go to the museum so I definitly didnt have the chance to see everything in one day. Will for sure come back!
The Canadian War Museum is one of my favorite museums. Even though it does not talk about happiness or other warm feelings and it is a very "gray" structure, a lot of effort was put to make this experience rich in history. We strongly recommend this place. We also suggest that you reserve more than 3-4 hours for it, otherwise you will not be able to read much.
Factual, informative, and clean! Peruse at your own speed without worry of being rushed along. Great outing for a few hours of "awe"some reading about a lot of men and women who sometimes paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we Canadians, and the world, share today.
I don't enjoy this place, they have a not good exposition and meany text in the rooms.
Great place to visit with family and kids (young and older). Current serving mbrs / veterans receive free admission plus a free guest, parking, and a voucher for their cafeteria. Visited several times in the past, but well worth visiting even just once. I see and learn something new every time I visit.
Probably because of covid, many hands on experiences aren't available but it is a must go place.
Great place to learn some Canadian War history. Also free on Thursday evenings!
Wow going back in history What en experience learning from the mistakes of the past applying to the future I hope
Great place to go with the family. The special exhibit of the Middle Eastern Photographers was outstanding. If you are with a small child or children it’s advisable to come as soon as the museum opens so that it’s very quiet and empty.
Whoow. That was my first impression when I started the tour. So much to see. If you think you can finish your visit within 1 hour then you better not start at all. We spend half a day to walk the complete route but I didn't see everything.
Amazing and interesting
This was the first time I go to the museum to see the exhibits and going with 3 kids I think I'm going to need a second visit to get everything in. The Armour exhibits is really awesome, worth the visit on its own. Definitely going there a second time. Parking is beneath the music at 13$ for the day. There's a restaurant in the lobby, but I was able to bring my own food
Many museums in Ottawa have free entry on Thursdays around day end. Check their website for details. For War museum; Admission is free on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
It is amazing to see a full review about the military in one place . I advice to visit ????
Really nice place to visit and know more things about the world and Canadian culture and history.
Was very well laid out with exceptional exhibits and points of both awe and education. Easy to track through our military history to present day. HIGHLY recommended as a place to visit.
A must visit if you are in the Ottawa area. The building is an architectural masterpiece.
I went here with my brother over the weekend because we wanted to do something away from the scorching heat outside... It was great!! We went around 2pm and they were closing when we left ; the time flew by and we hardly noticed. It was even better because they have free entrance for military members and up to two guests! Would definitely recommend.
Special shout out to the funny and knowledgeable young woman helping out as a curator in the vehicle section. She really knew her stuff. Quite an eclectic collection of armor and guns to see. Interactive displays for younger students and kids. There is a flow to the whole thing that really give a great impression of canadian history. Beautifully themed and run. Must see in Ottawa for any history buff
The war artifacts here are stunning. There's everything on display you could dream of from war medals to tanks to captured mini submarines. While every artifact and display tells a story (and the signage is pretty good), the building itself also tells a story in the architecture. It's worth getting a guided tour to learn the extra information that only the guides know.
If you love to know about Canadian war history i definitely recommend this place. Everything has a history.
Cool artifacts and models
Amazing museum at a really cheap price. It was around 19$ with taxes and if you want to see everything you really have to take the whole day. We came around 13:00 and took a dinner there and had to leave because it closed at 20:00 and we even had to skip some stuff! There's so much stuff to see from different era and the last room with all the vehicles was really impressive. There's a small area to commemorate the dead which is a nice touch as well.
Very informative. Seamless layout from one gallery to the next
The museum itself is quite interesting, and there are some great exhibits! Admission can be pricey, but you can save money if you are a student or a senior, or you can go for free on Thursday nights between 5 and 8 pm! Parking is costly, so I would recommend taking transit if that is an option for you!
Nice museum with lots of historic informations. Dont forget to visit the large hall with all the véhicules and canon at the end of the visit. It's easy to miss that part of the museum. While there is a large selection of vehicules there, the grouping of each pieces make it quite hard to see and photography. All the tanks are only visible from the front, it would be nice to be able to go around them. All in all an interesting visit in a beautiful building. BTW I don't think it's an interesting museum for childrens, the ones that were them at the same time as us seems quite bored.
Worth visiting place. You can spend entire day. Not sure why not many visit the place. Beautiful collection of war history
Incredible place. Home to alot of cool WW2 tanks and more modern ones aswell
very informative and lots to see and learn!
Great Canadian history.
Awesome place learned a lot.
One of the best and most indulging museums I have been to.
A place to be if you are a sucker for war histories and war machines ....
A national treasure. Well presented and well laid out, a walk through history. Theres a good mix of facts, historical artifacts and heavy metal - guns, tanks and other hardware to keep visitors young or old engaged.
Very informative place with good for weekend trips . Depicts lots of information about the past history and Canadian War civilization.
This is one of my favourite museums in Ottawa. The exhibits are well laid out and the staff are very knowledgeable. Wonderful resources for research purposes too. I would highly recommend people add this to their itinerary when exploring Ottawa.
There is so much to see and learn about the tools and efforts of Canadian heroes and their contribution at the international level. We learn how our heroes are fighting for our freedom and their role at the peackeeping scene. Great place for the Candian history buff.
Great place to families’ visits to enjoy our past honour. Heated parking available
The museum itself is amazing. We spent almost a full day looking at the galleries, learning new things, with many different ways to interact with materials. Overall it was an amazing experience. The restaurant is awful, though. It's supposed to close at 4, but they were picking up at 3. A grumpy lady and an even more grumpy man were definitely not happy to work there. Next time we'll bring our own food to avoid spoiling an otherwise amazing experience.
Wow, what a great museum. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Ottawa with 3 or 4 hours to spare.
The Canadian War Museum is operating now with reduced hours. You may need to buy a ticket online for a specific date and time. The building is fairly new and is worth seeing. Overall the exhibits are well designed and situated in chronological order with separate sections for each of the major conflicts. The written descriptions were detailed enough to be informative but not too long for a museum setting. The main issues I had were with the lighting in some spots and some required maintenance. Lighting of pictures in the gallery could be better regulated. Light could be used inside tanks for a better view. Small diagrams could be used in the gallery to help identify the subjects mentioned in the descriptions. A few display cases in the main area were without adequate lighting. Someone should do a careful walkthrough and document the areas requiring maintenance. Other than that we were quite impressed with the relatively new Canadian War Museum.
The views along the river to this museum was very enjoyable with lots to see. Simply take the path that goes along the east side of the Parliament buildings to either down the steps to the canal or to the backside stairs of Center block. I went the Canal way and came back the stairs. It just depends how you feel about doing the stairs. Lunch was good in the Cafe. Certainly will make another trip here again. Just ran out of time. 2km walk there.
Nice place. Good for adults and kids.
Didn't get through it all before closing, great chronological path through the museum plus extra exhibits. Some hands on activities, videos to watch, etc. Very cool inside (temperature). Well worth a visit, we'll be back.
Great place to learn about history and how it changed the world.
This museum goes in chronological order of the major wars Canada was in, from the initial colony of the French and British to the current UN Peace actions. The museum can easily take up 5 to 6 hours if you read and watch everything. They also have lots of different battle equipment from past wars stored here. The museum is great for families and couples, everything is shown in an easy to understand format.
Amazing collection of war artiFACTS. Yes, facts too - with everything explained so well, it’s something to relish. You’d have to set aside at least 3 hrs to throughly browse through all exhibits. The sequencing, placement and segregation is so well done, that I couldn’t think there’s any room for improvement. A fantastic place for young kids and youth alike, to learn about the rich heritage they inherit through this land of the brave go-getters without all the ‘Pompousness’
Much better than I expected...there's so much to see and learn that I didn't even realize how time passed by...was there for more than 3hours and didn't get a chance to explore everything!
One of the best organized museums I've ever seen. It's all arranged in a chronological order. It has everything you might wanna know about Canadian war history from ancient times until today. It's equally good for kids and adults. Definitely a must see!
very informative and lots to see and learn!
Great visit. Spent over three hours here and didn't get to see everything. The only thing that puzzled me was that the museum staff often answer your English questions with French responses...
Was nice visiting this museum my kids loved it
The breadth of time and diverse expirience represented here is impressive. I appreciate the inclusion of pre-european conflict in the overall story telling. The presentation was informative and detailed, yet accessible and relatable.
A bit off the beaten path, but easy enough to get to. And it's worth the visit. Lots of exhibits and accompanying descriptions. Entrance fee is reasonable, and they have discounts for seniors and students, etc. Cafe offers decent refreshments at reasonable prices. Very good environment. I'd highly recommend it, even if you are not too into military stuff. The history itself is informative.
The new exhibit is jaw dropping (she who tells a story). It's about women in the middle East. My friend and I spent 3 hours at the museum and loved every minute of it.
Phenomenal experience! Must see! It's incredibly well done, very true to history and enjoyed by young and old alike! Our family has been three times and will go back. Highly recommended!
A well thought out museum which presents the positive and negative aspects of war. They have an excellent collection of vehicles and guns.
I went back here just to see the tank area
Interesting place to visit!
Beautiful museum. Many interesting exhibits chronicling Canada's involvement in many wars.
Wonderful exhibits on Canadians efforts in war and peace keeping. Amazing artifacts of each war we participated in. This is a must when visiting Ottawa
Beautiful place. Lots of information on the history of Canada and how it was formed.
Visited the war museum to see the Scottish Highlanders exposition, great original pieces from XV and XVI century onwards. Very impressive and well preserved. World class!!!
There was a lot of amazing things to see here! It took several hours just to go through their permanent exhibits. We even ate at the food court and the food was delicious. We ran out of time so we couldn't see everything. I will definitely be coming back!
Very well done. Lots to see and do.
Great museum with great amounts of historical artifacts
An incredibly rich and well curated series of exhibits! Great coverage of Canada's military history, the beginnings and the later maturing stages. Part of that includes the highlights of the World Events & Political context, which makes the whole experience a truly enriching one! You should not miss this if visiting Ottawa.
If you have any interest in military history or even Canadian history this museum is a must see, the attention to detail from the 7 year war to present is fantastic. Each exhibition takes you on a journey throughout history. If you are in or near the ottawa area it is worth every second.
It was very interesting, but the only thing is that we didn't have time to see everything, because it closed
Amazing museum, very sobering and educational experience. There was not enough time in a day to see all there is to offer here! Make sure you catch the lower level displays of the tanks, mini sub and cross section of the electrical of a tank. ????????
It was amazing, very interesting to both my husband and I as well as our kids. We went during the armor exhibit and the kids loved it! Great place to learn about our history.
A solemn place to learn and remember.
This place is cool! Lots of war stuff! I highly recommend the lower level with the tanks, submarine, torpedoes, armored personnel carriers, motorcycles, cannons, guns and plane! The rest of the place is very well laid out, but has a LOT of text boards and not so many artifacts. Worth the trip!
Museum documents Canada's history of war.
Well organized museum, interesting collection.
One of my favourite museums in the world. Great exhibitions on war and life from the First Nations to early European settlers and on through the world wars and Cold War. Says on their website that it’s free for Canadian and selected commonwealth military members, was disappointed to be told that this doesn’t extend to British military members unless they reside in Canada... which must be a rare occurrence.
Excellent location
A great museum to learn about Canadian military and war history. Learned a lot about different eras and loved the room with the tanks and military vehicles. Unfortunately there was a formal dinner being set up the day I was there so there were blue lights shining on some of the tanks and it filled up with tables so much that I could not spend as much time in the room as I wanted to.
Find out the day they do tank demos. It’s lots of fun to see these old machines fired up again!
Experience Canada's war history in a museum. There are four sections, each involves a different timeline from the pre-colonial era to the present. You can find many military artefacts from all eras. It is also very educational as you get to learn about various battles and conflicts thanks to audio/visual presentations. I was surprised to see one of Hitler's cars. I had to go twice because I did not have enough time to see everything, so be sure to get there early!
All the exhibitions were full of fun interactive activities and a lot of useful information, so its a fantastic places for kids or for adults! The staff are very nice and helpful and its so big that you could go twice and be just as surprised as the last time you went.
A very humbling experience. Two days would be better to see everything. We had to leave after 4 hours because we were not comfortable with so many people around us (impossible to keep our social distancing). Some amazing objects were poorly lit, it was very hard to appreciate their true value...
Great bit of history. Amazing displays.
Great museum for anyone who loves war history and old war technology. Guided through first wars in Canada from 1800's to the 1990's. Overall a great experience and they have a very large area that houses a ton of old war vehicles.
Amazing experience!
This should be on the recommended places to visit while in Ottawa. The history contained within the walls of this museum is mind blowing. You will need to block off an entire day to fully experience all the areas, although a half day will allow you to see everything. I would definitely recommend a trip to the memorial hall, as somber as it is, it's well worth a few moments of the visit.
I have been there before and it was a great tour. With covid we couldnt get in. It is a huge place but they o ly allowed 50 people in. No walk-ins. There were tons of security guards. Big waste of resources. Should have been able to accommodate lots more people. Very disappointed.
Great museum. Exhibit and displays are A+.
Amazing Museum if you enjoy history about war you could spend a whole day here also they have hitlers car which is so cool
Best museum in Ottawa. One of the most expertly curated and designed museum I've ever visited. If you don't come out of here having experienced a significant emotional response then you may be dead inside. War sucks! But learning from the past to avoid the future's mistakes is kind of a decent idea. Hit this up. Free on Thursdays I think?
Very informative! Nice and clean museum.
Very interesting place for anyone wanting to learn more about Canada's history. Lots of love was given to the exhibits. I highly recommend it to anyone
Going to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa was an Amazing experience, my father served in the Canadian Forces for 9 years and it was great to see that he wasn't charged for Tickets upon entry for being a veteran, the exhibits were very detailed and displayed well, each artifact held its own Bit of Canadian History, we recommend other veteran's who wish to educate others on the military accomplishments of Canada visit the museum they will not be Disappointed. One flaw my father pointed out was the C6 308 General-purpose machine gun was mislabeled as a light machine gun, and c9 light machine gun was not labeled at all in Area four. The underground parking was very convenient, the Café within the Museum had excellent Burgers and Poutine at affordable prices. We will Definitely be returning in the future.
Just like wao! So huge, so interactive, lots of war machine, guns and interesting readings. I am impressed, never been such like museum. Enjod every minute!
This is one of the finest war museums I have visited anywhere. It explores the entire history of Canadian soldiers on Canadian soil and abroad (pre- and post-Confederation). There are hundreds of tanks and pieces of military equipment on display. Using photos, recordings and interactive games, visitors can learn about each period of history. There are trenches to walk through, a piece of the Berlin Wall you can touch, Adolph Hitler’s chilling limousine, and hundreds of expertly researched information displays. This is a must-see attraction.
Very well laid out .It was in chronological order from the earliest days of Canada up to modern days. The displays were, if not interactive, hands on. Multiple video stations to tell a more detailed story...and give people with mobility issues like myself a chance to sit and rest. All Canadian residents should visit at least once in their lifetime.
Best war museum with detailed Canadian war history.
If you like history and want to get a better appreciation of sacrifice honour and heroism that the Canadian military has done over the years definitely come here
If you like history, the Canadian military, or some combination of the two, this place is for you. Recommended to go at least once if you live in the area. Also recommended to give yourself at least three hours to get the most out of your visit unless you plan on speed walking your way through each exhibit.
The Canadian war museum is a very well done presentation of Canada's involvement in international and domestic military conflict over the last couple of centuries and more. It's a great history lesson just going there. Perhaps every Canadian should see what is on display at the Canadian war museum at least once. One caution is that you need at minimum 3 hours to see everything, and it may not be ideal for small children because of the time needed, and the patience needed to read the display descriptions. Overall time very well spent.
We have the opportunity to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and letting up by the sunlight on November 11th at 11 a. M. In the morning this was quite a sight I have to give it to the designers of the war memorial to do such a thing it was amazing we also were taking it back away from the idea that the peace Tower and the way that one step the laughter's one step to the right and peace is no longer visible no this is a very nice idea and I think this should be done more often the symbolism here is a very well done or thing I could say is I wish you could hold some of the more of the weapons it would be wonderful if there was more Hands-On at the war museum I really think that's the only part that they're missing not so great for little kids I think more for one
The best museum that I have ever been to everything about it was amazing, my personal favourite out of all of the exhibits was the ww2 one. They also had a giant room with a variety of tanks ranging from WW2 tanks to modern tanks. It took me 3 hours to look around the entire museum, I would have stayed for a hour more but the museum closed one of my favourite places that I have been too.
This place itself describes how much Canadian history hasn't been taught to me in history class. It was only the introduction of such intricate Canadian history our country had and how many of these legacy items are preserved in this history museum. I learned so much more a out Canadian history than I ever did before.
Excellent display. Terrible customer service experience.
What an incredible museum and a learning experience of Canadian History and History in general. The architecture in this building is magnificent and beautiful. Definitely a must see attraction in Ottawa
Great museum with so much to see! From the early wars in which Canada was involved, to the first and second world war, the cold war and many other exhibits, you need at least 4+ hours if you want to spend sufficient time in each sections. Great experience! My teens loved it!
Excellent experience, very eye opening and rich in Canadian history.
A superb layout for exploring. My 7 year old enjoyed it and exercising their reading skills. The LeBreton gallery was amazing for the selection. It had every tank I ever wanted to see.
First of all I don't know much about military, their history and their weapons. From a tourist stand point this is a very good attraction because there is so much to see. Lots of artifacts old weapons and decommissioned tanks and warplanes The building itself is built like a large cement bunker. The decor makes you feel like you're in a war zone. Things are well organized and packed together so no awkward empty spaces and not boring.
Didn't actually visit the museum, volunteering at RBC Bluesfest.
Awesome museum! I specially love the area with tanks. I've never seen so many tanks in one place.
Great experience but would be nice to have a few vehicles that you could sit in.
Sombre and vivid. Detailed placards and well kept memorabilia in a dark, dignified exhibit hall bring a sordid history, and the vivacious people put through it, to life. Many Canadians would do well to visit this at least once in their lives, to remember the lives it cost to make Canada.
A great place to go to yourself or with family. A lot of different exponents that are worth checking out. They tell the story of the greater conflict through the contribution of Canada. Lots of great uniforms, photos and vehicles in this place. Plus the architecture is definitely something that draws the eye. I highly recommend the war museum as an Ottawa must.
Great place for kids and adults alike. One of my favourite museums.
Fantastic place! perfect to learn more about history of World War. I recommend to plan at least three hours in the museum.
Very thoughtful tribute; also insightful and entertaining for people of all ages; those who've served, and those who appreciate those who've served, and the lessons learned over the years.
Awesome museum. A multitude of Western and even some Eastern bloc weapon systems, as well as a great deal of world war equipment. Dozens of armored vehicles.

Great experience for adults and kids.
Was pleasantly surprised by the amount of information and the quality of the displays. Plenty of historical memorabilia to view!
Where war's memories come out without censorship
It was interesting, but a lot of the things on exhibition were not lit properly.
Probably my favorite museum I've ever been to. I went early morning and it was fairly empty. Had a great time going through the exhibitions and the galleries. I'm absolutely in love with the tanks and the memorial hall they have. Will be back next time I'm in town
It's a beautiful museum. The architecture of the place is amazing. It's a little disconcerting at times, the subject is heavy, but it's worth it. The tank gallery at the end of the visit is the most impressive part.
OMG what an amazing day I had. so much history and the entire place is very well laid out and maintained. the tank exhibit is a must see, could have spent the day in that one section.
A little underwhelming, some sections were interesting.
Loved the history. I wish I had had more time to see all the museum.
Strong recommendation for this place. Awesome experience and even though Covid restrictions were in place the Museum still felt full of cool things to see, learn, and do. Bottom floor was a real gem ????
So detailed, and curators there were really nice to me. You need a lot of time to watch through whole this museum, I couldn't see it all through in 2 hours. It means, they have a lot of information and precious materials to see!
Fun and informative. Not for kids under 10. Was a bit crowded for an indoor attraction. Social distancing was not always maintained. Would also like to see a less Eurocentric view of contact/post-contact with Canada's indigenous peoples.
Good story about how Canada involved in different wars. Have a lit of tanks collection compare to other museum.
Always a pleasure to visit. First class curatorial and exhibitions.
Good place to remember what good and evil humans can do.
Awesome displays and stories revolving around the grimness of war, but done very well. Very accessible displays. I particularly liked the Armor display, which is for a limited time..
Always a truly patriotic experience at the war museum in Ottawa. The interactive exhibits help me show the kids the pride Canadians take in our service men and women. They really do take the time and effort to make the experience exceptional and every Canadian needs to experience the museum.
So completely immersing that I didn't even watch the time, 4 hours and I still needed more. I highly recommend you visit and take your time.
Fantastic museum! Very informative, educational and eye opener regarding Canada’s roll in wars and the evolution of uniforms and artillery.
Wonderful place! Great displays, nice staff, amazing, and history layout. I enjoyed my visit
Really informative visit and superb museum... Loved the concrete look in here... Must visit if going to Ottawa
Awesome museum to visit... can spend a day here... Especially for those who know the war history and weapons...
Fantastic museum. Lots of exhibits on display well arrangements in order of timeline. You'll find everything from generational uniforms and weapons to early Aircraft overhead and military vehicles... including a lot of tanks. The exhibits feature carefully placed an written explanations... so the experience you get is a really good walk through of Canada's military history... all the way up until recent events. There was a special exhibition on the Battle of Vimy Ridge at the time... commemorating 100 years since the event. There were parents walking their kids through as the explained their grandparents involvement in the 21st Century wars. Their we're veterans hanging around... explaining various exhibits to visitors. I really liked this place... I wish I had more time to dig deeper into their collection.
Great time!! Thank you Ottawa!
An unbelievable amount of Canadiana scanning centuries of history and the roles we as a country played in them. Best museum I've ever been in for relevancy and sheer breath of materials. Well done!
I absolutely loved it. It's great for all people alike who are interested in the Canadian Armed Forces and its history over the years. Would highly recommend coming here if you love history, or want too to look and read about interesting stuff.
No trip to Ottawa is complete without a stop at the National War Museum! View thousands of artifacts and displays from Canada through all wars. Videos to watch, interactive displays to take part in, such as walking through the trenches or landing on the beach on D-Day! An original copy of the Treaty Of Versailles is on display too! Lower level has the largest assortment of tanks and motorcycles in Canada! Convenient on site cafeteria had great food as well. Spend an hour or spend a say at this go at your own pace attraction. Lest We Forget.
Great museum if you're into tanks and war stories, maybe not so satisfying if you're just mildly interested in it. I saw it all in just under 2hrs, you WILL need to use the guiding arrows on the floor as there's a lot to see in each section and it's all interconnected. Best parts were the chunk of Berlin wall and Hitler's shot up Mercedes. There are actual war veterans explaining some of the exhibitions and plenty of videos to watch too. Be prepared to read a lot here. Entry is around $17 with tax included.
Was a great place to see history of War and how Canada played its part
Great exhibitions and stories, as well as artifacts and art pieces even
My family and I have been many times over the years since the museum opened at this location and have consistently been impressed with the quality, accuracy, and reverence displayed in the various exhibits. It is clear that modern sensibilities have influenced the exhibits, but in my opinion it the curators have found a fair balance for the most part. Despite the museum being bigger than the previous location, my one complaint is it needs to be bigger still!
Great for the kids
My favorite museum in Ottawa. We can see a lot of war equipment from various periods and better understand the Canadian contribution to world conflicts
it's a great museum. everything is very well presented
Great time! Lots of stuff to learn and see. Is free for military members and you can bring a free guest!
Best museum in Ottawa
Must visit this place!!! Amazing!
Fantastic museum for a fine Commonwealth country. Definitely worth the trip but wow parking is expensive!
It was awesome. It would have been nicer I we had a tour guide to tell us stories about certains events.
Lots of things to see here from before ww1 to present. They did remove lots of things such as listining stations to hear about facts due to covid.
Used to go there as a kid...now I take my kids there. Thank you so much for so many years of amazing history and artifacts. Best and most interesting museum in Ottawa .
One of the best museums in Ottawa. The design of the building, artifacts and artwork on display is all world class. This is a must-see if you’re visiting Ottawa or have never been. The building is clean and staff and friendly and helpful. They did a great job with this museum.
When you travel to Ottawa make sure you allow time for visiting the National War Museum. Vast in size and collection, if you want to discover or understand Canada's place in military history, this is a must. The replicas of Vimy Ridge Memorial, The Canadian War Memorial and the WWI trenches plus pre WWI are incredible. $19.00 adult admission. Great gift shop.
By far the best museum I've been to, plenty to see and so much to learn. Special exhibits were very well done and full of things from the war. Tons of displays, very well laid out, guides were very informative. Every exhibit covered something specific and there was more exhibits to see then what we had time for. Great place to take the family, has an area for birthdays, conferences and special events held for such occasions.
Unforgettable, never imagined the war museum could so interesting! My 9 year son was up the moon and me too! Thank you for you great job, highly recommend!
Give yourself lots of time, it's worth the investment.
Lots to see. Great place to spend a day.
Full of history that should not be forgotten. You can easily lose track of time and spend hours in the exhibits. The armoured vehicles are the cherry on top.

Great place to visit. Excellent historic pieces. Parking is expensive
Thoroughly informative and very moving. The museum is laid out in 4 quadrants: early Canadian wars, WW1, WW2, & from end of WW2 to and including our role in Afghanistan. Highly recommended
You can't be unimpressed! Amazinf museum where you have a lot to learn. Good for kids too, but they may find some things scary.
Beautiful architecture, wonderfully helpful and informative staff, and eye grabbing exhibits. Then finish your tour with a moment of silence and reflection in the memorial hall. A great place to commemorate those who have served, continue to serve, and assist freedom.
Canada's premier institute focusing on Military History in the Canadian Context. The museum has a temporary exhibition gallery that changes 1-2 times a year, permanent galleries that deal with each specific time periods in the history of Canada up until the present, a memorial room displaying medals of valour from Canadian soldiers and a vehicles gallery. If you are a current or former military member you get yourself and 2 guests free and free parking (also a food voucher for the cafe). Just bring your card. An excellent deal for military families. Very interactive and very accessible. I recommend this museum.
Educational, a lot of the pieces are not only authentic, but we're sent to the museum, as is, straight from warzones. Gift shop prices are very reasonable.
This was my second visit to the museum and I still haven't seen everything. The guides are very helpful and there's something for everyone, with informative and thought provoking exhibitions throughout.
Most November 11th days for the pas six years, after going to observe the moment of silence as close as I get reasonably get to the war memorial, I make my way to the War Museum. If you choose to be at the museum on remembrance day at 11:00 a ray of light shines onto he tomb of the unknown solder in a dedicated room. It is a time to reflect on where we are in the world, where we've come from and where we're going. Again, on November 11th, volunteer docents from various branches of the armed forces are available to talk about their experiences. The museum is an excellent one and does justice to both Canada's military history as well as our peacekeeping roles. There are a lot of significant vehicles and armament exhibits throughout.
A good place to hang out with family
Very informative place with good for weekend trips . Depicts lots of information about the past history and Canadian War civilization.
Great experience. Could have spent all day here. Very informative displays and wonderful job of putting Canada's war history in a global context. The artillery and vehicle floor is most impressive.
Fantastic memorial! So much to see. It is extremely detailed and informative. It makes one appreciate all that those men and women went through to give us the freedom we have today. Highly recommend that everyone visit.
Great place to visit. Give yourself at least 2 hours
So much of history... Great plc.
Great museum, interesting temporary exhibits and fun and informative special events.
Amazing place to pay respect to our veterans and explore our military history.
Great place
A great place to know the military history of Canada. The exhibition areas are well organized and divided. Follow the arrows kn the ground and you would find the visiting route quite enjoyable.
Went there yesterday. Staff is very friendly, very KIND. We had issue with the ticket, but they solve it SO fast. Really appreciate! About the tour: Jenifer (the tour guide) was literally awesome! Lots of fun, lots of jokes as well as tons of really interesting info on the topic! Even in the time of pandemic they did really great job! Unfortunately we had limited access, but it is still was great! Recommended

One of the many things on my to do bucket list. I must have spend 5 to 6 hours there checking everything. I didn't want to miss a thing. I had an opportunity to chat with a vet while there. It is worth the price of admission.
This was really an awesome experience to see how things were 50, 60, 70, 80+ years ago. I didn't expect to spend the whole day but that's indeed what happened so don't rush through it and make time for this visit. You will get so much more out if it, there was even a portion of the Berlin Wall there. Just an awesome experience for myself considering both my grandfather's served in WWII. I will admit, I did get emotional at times and had to stop into the cafeteria to take a break but still well worthwhile of a visit. 5 stars hands down.. a worthy tribute to every person who has served our great country of Canada.
Quite informative about Canada's past as well as wars in different parts of the world
Came here for a private event was very satisfied with the food, drinks, and entertainment
It is a must visit. Lots to learn here...
It’s my second time in Ottawa and my second time in this museum. If you like tanks, gun and war history you will love this place!
Well worth the visit. Great static displays, especially Lebreton Hall.
Strong experience about Canada's history of war. Excellent experience and walkthrough. Don't have your first date here.
A truly amazingly done museum. All exhibitions are great. Contents, stories... The topic itself can't be said is enjoyable, but we really enjoyed the history and the displays.
It was amazing!
Gives a new appreciation for the sacrifices people have made for our freedoms. It takes a few hours to go through, I enjoyed it all and would recommend this to anyone who likes history.
The displays are worthwhile and thoughtful, appreciative for our history while not glorifying the horrors of war. They are doing an admirable job to keep things safe in Covid-19 times.
Great location for thorough and well-presented information about Canadian military history. Very open and accommodating for hosting military ceremonies.
I knew some of Canada's War History but this Museum showed me so much more then I ever knew. The displays & artifacts are amazing but the stories of our Canadian men & women are exceptional. I would recommend a visit to anyone who may want to know how our country came to be, the good & the bad, & how Canadians helped protect & continue to help protect & fight when asked.
Great place to go when it's freezing cold outside a day full of fun here if you get the 3 museum package it's a better deal!!
Organized, well laid out and a real eye opener. The displays are organized so your walk is done historically. From the early days of the Canadian Forces to the modern day. The main hall has a great assortment of armoured vehicles (one aircraft only sadly , a Voodoo, with another a CF-5 above a display )for those kinds of affectionados. Going through all the displays can be a bit mind numbing due to the breadth and scope of the armed services. One person told me he didn't think it was thorough enough. But the average person would find this very dense information wise . Well worth the time to go through. Thought provoking and sad at times realizing the sacrifice people made for Canada and world peace. Like to see more aircraft but there would be no room. Hitler's staff car was an amazing display to think the guy actually say in that seat...wow! really brings the reality of that War home.
Get know about Canada wars participate, and another kind of devices that they used, and a lot of content in old history, foundations, and more knowledge of the past, here is your place. Cons: some sites of the expositions have bad backlights, and you cannot seem the details of these
It will give enough knowledge about Canada history and how it begun
One if my favorite museums. You can easily spend hours here.
Must place to visit, Know the History of our Veterans, Military Missiles,Tanks,Bikes,Guns e.t.c., used in Participation Wars., Well organized and displayed with its brief history on it.War Museum is a must historical place to visit for all ages. They have Cafeteria inside- Well maintained. Enjoy your visit.
This was a great way to spend a cold a cold Canadian afternoon learning about history. We loved the experience it was easy to follow and my.daughter really enjoyed the different exibits and videos.
excellent museum full of many vehicles and weapons from different wars with a lot of history. I loved it
Well designed museum, knowledgeable and helpful guides all throughout! Spacious during COVID, felt very safe and comfortable. Amazing sections throughout, incredible displays! Free on Thursday nights!
Great museum, so many well taken care of items. Good for the whole family. Only wish they had more interactive displays.
Great experience, you can see authentic tanks from both WW.
Great experience, you can see authentic tanks from both WW.
Plan a few hours for the visit. The layout of the exhibition by historical period is well done. Impressive to see all the collections including a German Panzer and a Soviet Main Battle Tank. Recommended for history fans.
A museum rich of war history that covers the implications of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces(CAF) in the military conflicts happening in the world past and present. It was interesting to see how the museum was displayed in a historical perspective; it is in chronological order and separated in different sections covering precise war or subject. There’s also an interesting gallery full of recent or older vehicles used in different wars by our military. It was such a great time and opportunity to learn new aspects of the Canadian implications in different militarized contexts. I would definitely recommend going at least once, alone or with friends/family, to learn about the events that helped us shape Canada and the world.
Bluesfest 2018.
Amazing exhibits and wonderful staff, all striving with purpose lest we forget.
It was not bad, but kind of too small
Awesome place to go to learn about history and to remember those who fought for us
We spent over 4 hours here. We are not military buffs; however, we were very interested in all the galleries. It was well presented in a Canadian perspective. You are lead in a chronological maze of galleries. We found WWI gallery to be the most fascinating and emotionally startling. Good for all ages to know Canada's involvement in war and peace times. It gave us a much better appreciation for our veterans and their families and the sacrifices they made for our great country. A must see in Ottawa. Great looking building too.
Great times, great familly trip and super interesting
The Canadian War Museum is more than a museum that is internationally renowned for its symbolic architecture; it is known for inspiring and touching stories. Canada's rich military history is showcased through artifacts, personal stories, artwork, photos and interactive presentations. Tour the extensive permanent exhibitions and expand your knowledge of the conflicts that shaped Canada, Canadians and the world.
Always great to goto the War Museum, to learn more about the sacrifices made for our freedoms. Each time there is more that I see and learn. It it's also refreshing and sad to see the faces and names of those that I served alongside in some of the more recent displays. UBIQUE
Well worth the visit. Current military get a discount. Well laid out, and there is something for more than just military enthusiasts.
I loved this place. We had to go back a second day to see all the tanks. If you're a thorough museum visitor, it can take over 8 hours. I need to go back a third day to truly complete the experience.
Great place to visit. Masterpieces from our history and around the world. There is so much historic information that you will get exhausted but the war history, weapons and so on does not end. A place worth visiting to know our past and controbution of our great soldiers.
Good cafeteria, though overpriced as expected. Large portions of poutine and other hot food are highlights, don’t expect Dollarama prices for drinks though. Free sauce as well. There was more than enough seating for a weekday with good views of the river. Free coat check, clean bathrooms, and functional water fountains with river water. Interactive dioramas and other parts are still blocked off except for the special exhibition. Quick and easy vaccine and ticket check.
Amazing museum. Very great displays, very friendly staff, and a great venue. I would highly recommend to anyone living in or visiting the Ottawa region. Very easy venue to bicycle to as well!
A lot of information inside this space, could take a whole day if needed. Lots on display
I was pleasantly surprised by how well this museum is set up and laid out. Lots of interesting things there
Too many panels with small print required to get any information, meanwhile there's a crowd behind you waiting while you read. Dioramas and artifacts are great, but more would be better. I think it was ok, but it could be made more engaging. Show me the progression of firepower more explicitly. Show me the important faces. Show me how battle tactics evolved. Underwhelming.
It is a must visit museum when you visit Ottawa, you can learn more about the history of our beloved Canada and sacrifices people have made. Pretty interesting to see the evolution of warcrafts et al
A fabulous comprehensive musuem around the conflicts that Canada had been a part of. One of the best collections of tanks and armaments including a limo that Hitler himself rode in. For those who are WWI & WWII buffs, they have one of the most expansive exhibits available. This is a must see destination for the musuem tourist crowd.
Great place to go when it's freezing cold outside a day full of fun here if you get the 3 museum package it's a better deal!!
You'll spend 3-4hours looking at all the exhibits which go through time from the original tribes fighting each other, the revolution , world and cold war. There's a large collection of vehicles and cannons to walk too. A good way to spend a few hours.
Always enjoy this museum. My husband was armored army for years so it becomes a more personal visit. Loves the tanks! Displays are impeccable.
Really nice museum. Pretty thorough look through the military history of Canada. It has a very large gallery of tanks and war vehicles if that's what you are into. A must for anyone visiting Ottawa.
Great place to families’ visits to enjoy our past honour. Heated parking available
A must visit musues. Well preserved war artifacts and detailed information available. Might take 2-3 visits to finish the whole musues.
Loved this place. Very historic. If you are a fan of history, or just wanna learn some things. Come here. They have so much about Canada in wars, and war in general. All the stuff here is all realistic, and breathtaking. Better than a textbook or online. The staff here is great, and there are usually actual war veterans there to answer questions.
One of the best museums in Ottawa and one of the best war museums in the world. Better than the war museums I’ve visited in Europe. The collection of artifacts is vast and high quality. A bit weak in the pre WWI period, but soars thereafter. Highlights for me were Hitler’s car, complete with bullet holes, secret agent pen gun (agent’s name was 0011 - seriously), the nose cone from an Avro Arrow, and Billy Bishop’s plane, flamethrower and the hall of tanks. On top of this, an outstanding building and well presented collection. This is a deceptively big museum. Doesn’t appear so from the outside as it is designed to look like a bunker. We spent 3 hours and rushed through the at the end as we were tired. Will come back. I suggest you aim for 2 to 3 hours and start with the galleries of greatest interest to you. The museum is generally split into 4 sections. Pre WWI, WWI, WWII, post WWII.
Awesome place, love how they divided up different periods of Canada's history into distinct exhibits.
Lots to see and appreciate in Canada's commitment to world peace. Unfortunately it seem that 1 day was not enough, next time the plan is for 2 days. They have a small restaurant inside that looked OK.
It was very big with alot of information and different times, with different battles. Also the tanks and old vehicles was pretty cool too! It took us 3/4hrs to get through everything....ish.
War never changes.
A must see museum for anyone who is interested Candian Military History, from the earliest settlerment days right through to the current time. They even have Hitler's staff car.
Great exhibit, worth the price of admission.
Robert is an awesome guidé
Great experience. Just follow the arrows and you'll do fine. A great reminder of Canada's history.
One hell of a place to visit, really enjoyed my tour, an experience of a lifetime
Amazing museum, there is lots to see here. I would take a whole afternoon to see all there is to offer properly. The cost is worth it.
A giant bunker housing historical and modern war paraphernalia. Displays are done well in the dizzying labyrinth.
Great building and love the graphic design of the exhibits. The sonar sound identifying game was fun and I would have liked to see more things like that. More interactive features in general would be nice, even if it’s just those question and answer flaps to break up the just staring/reading things. The walk through environments such as the war zones were very interesting and well done. Overall it was a good and educational experience.
Good for knowing more truth of the war, and educate next generation to love peace.
Moving and very powerful. We spent 3 hrs and could have spent 3 more ... To do it right is an all day affair. Doesn't glorify war and tells the stories well.
Undoubtedly one of, if not THE best museum in Ottawa. A must see, but make sure you have at least 3-4 hours of free time to do the full thing. I have been several times over the years, at the moment there is an excellent exhibit about Highland Scottish warriors which was interactive and fun. It's an incredibly comprehensive museum overall, especially now that they have updated the recent history section to include the war in Afghanistan.
This museum was my favorite of the whole city, full of history and some activities very interesting.
There's so much history here. Definitely worth checking out. There's lots to see so give yourself at least half a day to cover everything. You are allowed to take pictures without the flash.
You can learn a lot obout history, when you visit this museum. I saw so much more then I ever know was around in ontario.
It's normally really good but with the tours because of covid it's not as fun
Excellent experience! Well laid out, easy to reserve tickets online. Great for museum fans and those who aren't! Good balance of history, images, technology. Planned for 1.5h but stayed 4h!
Great War museum. I spent about five hours there, watching and learning about history of Canada soldiers in world wars, but also in african war, american war and many others. There is also a big hall with many different tips of military vehicles. If you are interesting in military equipment and history of wars, I recommend you to visit this museum when you visit Ottawa.
It's so nice to see it
Beautiful exposure and rich collection!!! If you are passionate about history this museum is a must in your list!!! We had great time!
Must go if you love war stuff
Well organized repository of war time records and events as well as relics from those wars, both within and outside canada. Loved the way it's set up, as you are guided throughout the museum with or without a guide because it seems very easy to navigate. Would take more than an hour to carefully go through for even fast readers (one of which I am not. lol). Loved it. As educative as it is thought and emotion provoking.
Will be back for sure. Just wish most of it wasn't closed
Amazing. Very thorough, interesting and well organized.
I never expected to like this museum because it was all about war, I went for my husband. It was fantastic, beautifully housed, fascinating displays and so educational. I could go back again, I'm blown away by my own reaction.
This is an amazing homage to our veterans and a must see for all Canadians. We were greeted through the main doors by a veteran (I wish I could remember his name), who took the time to talk to my children about the museum and answer their questions. He made recommendations on which galleries he thought would be the most interesting to the children, and even took the time to fawn over our baby. He made our experience better, and I really appreciate meeting him. I wish I could thank him again for being there for us, and of course for his service to our country.
If you only get to one museum in Ottawa this is the one to visit. The exhibits are well built and very detailed for those wishing to learn more. Their armoured vehicles exhibit is also very impressive.
there is a lot to see and probably takes 2 trips to absorb everything. there is a lot of history. I just found that they are not using any new Teck ( wi-fi based tours using tourist phone's) to better explain exhibits. a lot of lack of information when touring . I grew up in a military family and even with my dad who served 35 years we had lots of unanswered questions. Bathrooms I thought where right of my barracks from 40 years ago. It's a great concept but there is a ton of technology that would help explain what you are looking at with very little cost to the museum. This should be a tourist center piece for Ottawa. That being said it needs to use current technology to really give the best overall experience.
Great exhibitions. Very safe covid measures.
Always worth a visit. Renowned across Canada. Lest we forget!
World class museum. Something there for all ages. Canada can be proud of its military accomplishments and individual sacrifices and the museum that depicts it so very well.
Doesn't go into great detail but covers a lot of ground and has good displays. The building itself is also very cool. I would recommend at least 3 hours here
Great place to learn our history.
Beautiful building and great staff. Great display of interactive information. Kids were delighted to meet members of the armed forces. Some areas might not be appropriate for younger kids but still a fun place in the winters.
Excellent presentation of artifacts and scenes. It is apparent there was attention to detail when organizing and developing areas. Somewhat confusing to navigate, but equally intriguing. Very, very happy to learn of free admission for Veterans. Highly recommended for individuals, families, young and old.
• A mandatory stop for anyone interested in Canadian history and a great way to pay tribute to the men and women who got us here. The staff are bilingual and amazingly helpful, especially their research department. They went above and beyond helping me. It should be experienced by every student of history. The collection of military vehicles and mobile armor on the lower floor is impressive.
Great place to learn. My only complaint is underground parking. Cash or Credit no debit and no signs tell this to people that have waited 15 min in a line for a pay machine and I can't cause I don't carry cash or credit card.
Very onfusing to exit parking lot for Veterans .who are supposse to be free...
I didn't think I would enjoy this museum as much as I did. You should probably schedule two days to go and see everything. It's truely an amazing and humbling experience. I would recommend the canadian war museum to everyone!
Loved it. Worth the trip. If you are a military buff you will love it.
Different war represent the different concept of deal with conflict on different human history. Very special museum.
Great place for a relaxing yet informative Thursday evening (free from 5pm to 8pm on Thursdays).
Very interesting place! Learnt lots about Canadian history. Took me and my family about 2 hours to go through but was well worth it.
It is an amazing place, you learn eveything about the Canadian army. The tanks also look sick.
This is my absolute favorite museum! I could have spent the whole day there! It was super interactive, beyond informative, and overall the thought and detail put into every step you take is just incredible. I would really recommend for older kids and up verses young toddlers just because of the amount of information and some noises throughout. The memorabilia is outstanding. Every staff we came in contact with had so much knowledge. And my favorite part was the staff who served in the military were walking around and interacting with guests. The museum is worth every penny. I would pay double the price for this place!
Was very well laid out with exceptional exhibits and points of both awe and education. Easy to track through our military history to present day. HIGHLY recommended as a place to visit.
it's a good place to know about Canada's history. However the price is a little bit experience for non-students.
very immersive experience, it explains the history of war in Canada, has plenty of weapons, uniforms (some can be worn), and vehicles on display. The World War section was particularly emotional due to the news footage and audio of that era that makes us feel like we were really there. there is also a room imitate the trenches so we can experience what it feels like. the building is gigantic, absolutely worth going to learn more about the history of war and past human mistakes
Such a cool experience! Definitely worth checking out. Make sure you have a few hours!! Too many cool things to list, but here are a couple pics.
Great place to learn the reason we identify as Canadians instead of French and British. Also to learn of the armaments that Canada has used from the earliest battles to the most modern ones. The ability to see historical artifacts suck as Adolf Hitler's touring car and the medals provided to Currie is incredibly important. Their is also a used book store open most days. And a small Cafe. Some of the exhibits do offer the ability to walk through to experience what the soldiers must have experienced.
The War Museum has been an excellent stop for our local Scout Group for many years around Remembrance day. Do consider taking the guided tour to be enlightened not only on the artifacts but on the features built in by the architect to set a tone of discomfort while presenting elements of an often difficult yet intriguing subject.
Very thorough museum with old to modern war exhibits. Don't forget the basement where there is lots of heavy equipment.
Amazing and interesting well worth it!
A must see when visiting Ottawa. It took us almost four hours to see all the exhibits. I learned so much during my visit and left the museum feeling so grateful!
Great museum. Very good collection of military vehicles of all types. One could spend the whole day here.
A great look into our armerd forces history
What a great museum. Spent over 5 hours there and i need more time. Stroll at your leisure with lots of great exhibits and displays.
A great history of how Canada came unto its own through hardship and sacrifice and evolved to become a global leader and Peacekeepers. …
What a great museum if you want to know about Canada's involvement in various wars over the last couple of centuries. Great interactive exhibits. Make sure you give yourself enough time to fully experience it. They have it set up to experience it in chronological order. A must see if you are interested in history!
Place us closed, but you can enjoy open air outside for free
Great museum with lot of info and exhibits.
Very nice. It could take a couple visits to take it all in or at least a full day.
Wow! What an amazing museum. It's a beautiful building and everything is so well put together. I spent 2.5 hours there but I could have easily spent all day there.
Kids loved it . . . Great Job with Exhibitions
Amazing place. Everything, including the building itself has meaning. I really wanted to see the hall of remembrance, but unfortunately it was closed due to Covid 19. This is a very special place.
My 9th time there and I love it every time ! Very well kept
This is a beautiful museum with an amazing collection of artifacts from all the wars Canada has been involved in. There are different time periods represented so you can delve into the area that most interests you. It takes at least a couple of hours to explore the museum, and I suggest a couple of visits might be a good idea. I was moved to tears at several points, and would definitely go back.
Very beautiful place I had a really nice experience there you'll spend a minimum 2 hours in this place yo have to visit it if you come to Ottawa
Great linear storytelling of Canada's conflict history and cool tank collection. I like reading most things in museums and spent 3.5hrs here. I would have liked to spend 4hrs since I had to rush through the last section and tank gallery. The "recommended" time from the museum for the 4 sections totals 2.5hrs (excluding the gallery). I think this is what most people would take. There are 4 sections plus a vehicle gallery: 1: Canadian settler times 2: World War 1 3: World War 2 4: After World War 2 till present Vehicle gallery (artillery and tanks)
Wonderful place to visit especially if your kids are history buffs. Ensure that you have enough to see everything as the place is pretty big and there is a lot to take in. Really great place to learn some Canadian history. The staff were friendly and willing to answer questions. Definitely recommend and will revisit.
Wow what an incredible exhibit the place was massive had absolutely everything there could be regarding all wars, excellent work to all who made this place
Truly a most for every Canadian to see. Exhibits and information dates back hundreds of years. The equipment and static displays and just overwhelming, and show the true life of how are sailors, soldiers and airman have deal with to fight for our freedom and ideals. A truly fantastic experience
First time at a war museum and I was left in awe. Had a better understanding of Canada’s history. Expect to spend Four hours or more in this museum. Very informative!
very interesting
good location
This museum is packed with artifacts from the wars of Indigenous people to recent conflicts in Africa and Europe. A lot to see in one day. I liked the spaces where you can get immersed experience- trenches of WWI, street fights in Rome, battlefield of WWI. Spoiler- they have Hitler's parade' Mercedes. Extensive collection of tanks- from the very earliest to the latest. Take a break and drive for an amazing lunch at Edgar at Gatineau. Parking outside is $ 2.50 per hour. Inside is $13 all day. If you plan to go out for lunch, then outside parking makes more sense, otherwise drive into inside one.
Very interesting to see how canada was shaped into a nation, developed its own identity through WWI, strove to defend its ideals in WWII, and more recently how the Canadian military has helped to combat terrorism and help provide stability on the world stage. Exhibits are a great mix of historic equipment and personal stories that make it real!
Go see it. A cool looking building full of information and history. I have been three times. I love going and looking at the exhibits. It's so amazing to see what past generations have done.
Amazing place to be. Every Canadian must visit and pay their respects. I was here on the Remembrance Day and had the chance to witness the sun light illuminates the tombstone of the unknown soldier precisely at 11 am. It was so powerful, touching and emotional. Tell you the truth i don't think i have words to express it. "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" - John 15:13
Very well laid out. If you do not know the history of Canadas fighting forces this is a great place to learn. If you are a history buff then you will love it as well. Amazing exhibits.
A glimpse into the history of the world and more specifically Canadian history of the first peoples , the French and the British shaped what we know know as Canada
We were greatly disappointed in the curators neglect to not inspect the exhibition after reopening the museum to the public post covid lockdowns. The majority of the display enclosures were not lite at all but had obvious lights that were part of the displays. This may have been an oversight but we hope it will be resolved soon if we mange to visit again. Over all the the museum is laid out nicely and there is a wealth of knowledge displayed.
Found this an emotional experience. The horror of war was expertly conveyed
Very informative. You need almost a full day to really absorb all the information on display.
Beyond the loveliness and novelty of being in a museum post-pandemic, our visit to the Canadian War Museum was excellent. Moving, overwhelming, educational, impressive, and a great experience. Excellent temporary exhibits as well. If only it were the only place war could still be found.
Always love going here, got to talk to a Korea vet and was an enlightening moment and appreciated every minute of it!
Should see tanks
Great place to visit, if you are interested in Canadian War History from l700s to present day. We spent 3 and a half hour there with our 9 year old who really enjoyed it. Well worth it
Good Experience to learn
Always and enjoyable and informative day fir us.
Good coverage from the earliest explorers to present day. Massive collection of vehicles on the lower level.
Perfect family museum
Learned a lot about the history in detail.
I was actually quite surprised how much I loved this museum! I've been back 3 times, each time I visit Ottawa, and I would recommend it to everyone and anyone.
The Canadian War Museum has a amassed a great collection of war equipment. Tanks from every side of WWII and lots of information to read regarding the various parts that were played. I learned a lot and enjoyed the nicely renovated war museum. This is a must see stop in Ottawa.
This place is amazing. Full of history. A MUST SEE.
Never saw a museum like this before. It was pleasure to see the real tanks, jets, bombs and weapons used in the war. Creation of real war locations, and projecting videos was amazing. It’s worth watching at least once.
The museum staffs are very good and best staffs, but the museum itself is not amazing at all. Nothing especial to see. Just waist of time.
I visited with my husband who is in the Canadian armed forces so this hit close to home for me. It was a great learning experience with a bunch of hands on exhibits that would be fun for people of all ages. The tanks and vehicles are really cool to see in person. You get to experience just how big they really are. There are also exhibits about world War one, two, the cold war, and 9/11. At times the exhibits are sombre but it is showing the honest truth about war. I'd recommend this for kids educationally and adults for a little history lesson about Canada's military presence throughout the years. Very interesting!
Good place to know Canada history.
Second time going to this museum and I absolutely love it. There's always new things to read and look at. I've found there to always be ample parking and it's never insanely busy when I've been. The Highlander exhibit is a must see!
This is my third time returning back to the War Museum. This is the best museum I have ever been to, absolutely loved it. My favorite exhibit was the First World War exhibit. I had the opportunity to meet Tim Cook, an absolute terrific curator and very knowledgeable. I can't wait to return here someday and see what they do with it.
A must place to visit whenever you are in Ottawa!
Awesome experience!! So much to see
Excellent...so much to see
It's a place and everyone who comes to Ottawa should visit. It is also a place where you feel sad for the many lives lost in wars. The building is a very nice structure. I was a little disappointed with the website to book the time slots, no one was answering the phone.
Very well done. Impressive
The special exhibition of Ann Frank was excellent and well worth a visit!
Really cool war museum
The Canadian War Museum generously donates to many of the charities I volunteer for throughout the Ottawa area. The exhibits are informative and there are lots of interactive experiences for people of all ages. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous giving all attendees a wonderful experience.
This is one of the best museums that I have ever been to. It is so full of interesting stuff, be sure to give yourself enough time to peruse through it all. Parking is underground and a max of 13$/day. You will be there a while. Prepare to spend 13$ for parking. Although this museum seems small on the outside, its actually HUGE but also very interactive. A lot of the exhibits have light up maps, videos, listening exhibits or items that can be touched or held. The best part is the exhibit of tanks on the lower level. Make sure you dont miss out on that part. Good for all ages. I highly recommend this place.
Very nice place to learn about Canadian history.
Always a great visit and always something new to see
Great place to remember the history, heroes.
really an amazing museum. It was a bit too intense for little kids but... it is a war museum. It should feel intense.
A lot of content and exhibits. Very good to spend time with family and learn Canadian war history.
Great place to see amazing War vehicles! Won't be disappointed with these machines!
An amazing exhibition of military equipment and history. The artifacts are very well presented and adequate information and helpful historical context are provided. The building itself is a marble of engineering and architecture. The staffs are very polite and professional. Accessibility and parking facility are also well designed.
Lack of objective thinking makes the museum damaging to society
Very enlightening and certainly educational. If you love history you'll love this place. So much to see, give yourself at least 3 hours so you can really take your time there and let it all in.
"The Last 100 Days" exhibit is a must-see to help understand how WWI ended, especially as we note the 100th anniversary of the armistice. The rest of the museum tells the story of the formation of Canada. It is packed with information and needs at least a full day to fully appreciate it. The downstairs garage holds a huge collection of military vehicles, including a Sherman used in Band of Brothers.
Happy To know there is a place that Will never Forget. I got To learn about what my grandfathers as POW went through. Up To date muséum as Well.
We had friends visiting and thought it might be interesting to visit one of many wonderful museums and one that we had never visited ourselves. It was amazing! It does take a while to see it all if you stop and do a lot of reading but it is definitely worth it even if only seeing a portion.
Great place to spend a few hours and soak in some history..and hours are needed.Very well organized and easy to follow presentations.Staff friendly ,there is a cafe available for food and drink.Easy walk from downtown core..Well worth a visit.
Fantastic place filled with historical items and information. Courtesy and knowledge from the staff.
First visit and found it a great experience! Learned something in every exhibit - the special exhibits were a favourite!
Exhibits are all open. Great museum. Staff is super curtious.
Incredible place. Takes more than one day to see it all properly.
Lots of fun and full of so much knowledge and great pictures to aid understanding. A great display of information.
Excellent! This museum is a great exhibit of Canada’s military contributions throughout history. From a central area you can choose different paths to follow that take you through different eras (recommend time needed to complete each room is given on the map). There is lots to see and do for people of all ages. As well, the museum hosts special exhibits a few times a year. These exhibits are always interesting and worth visiting. The last one I saw (Highlander exhibit) was fabulous! It displayed different weapons, dress, art, etc. and traced the history right up to present day. I’ll be looking forward to the next special exhibit!
amazing look at our history, lot of walking but worthwhile
Awesome museum. Many exhibits to see. Really enjoyed the Scottish exhibit. Large display of tanks. Allow a few hours to visit as it is big. Well worth a visit.
Very big museum and there is lots of tanks. Kids will love it.
Great place! Amazing history, very interesting exhibits and vehicles Had an awesome time
While much of the things on displace are things you should have learned in high school the exhibits also offer much to learn from
Very interesting and educational, with friendly and helpful staff. We spent more time on earlier wars, including WWI when Canadian bravery and strength won international recognition. We also read a lot into wars involving native people, and learned how they got alone with French during early settlement and helped Canada in 1812 war. Tank display is quite impressive as well, but surprisingly found a Mercedes rode by Hiltler, shown bellow.
It is what a museum should be! Learned so much about Canadian war history and the kids were excited to see all the tanks and war artifacts. The staffs are extremely helpful and friendly! If we are ever in Ottawa again we will definitely visit this museum again!
Very informative. Very large Lots of exhibits.
Actually shows you in deep details past Canadian contributions to Wars that changed the world we know. Great to bring kids. Great for historical fanatics and those who love a good read. Very modern and there's a boutique with past war themes and Canadian treats. Definitely worth going to at least once in a lifetime!
So interesting. First time we saw real Victoria crosses
Great place!
An amazing look into the experiences of Canadian troops throughout history around the world.
Great museum, lots to see there and interesting for little kids as well.
Whether you like history or machinery this place is an absolute dream. Must visit.
A very emotional building packed with the world's hardest times. A must see. Thursdays is free from 5 to 8 PM.
You can get here by car, bus, or train. Any bus going to Gatineau, especially 85. Train stop at Pimisi, just look out for the eel. Great staff, very helpful. Wear comfortable shoes, because touring the place is a long one. Follow the arrows on the floor, or go off for an unpredictable course. You can hang your coat at the open coat check, but beware leaving anything of value. Otherwise, use the lockers. Any umbrellas can be stowed in an umbrella holder near the racks. Guards don't really care, since they're more busy listening to phones charging on an outlet. The Highland warrior exhibit was beautiful, and people get to handle sword replicas (longsword and sword with basket handle). Dimitri was patient in showing you details of these weapons. The snakes and ladders game wherein your destination is Parliament Hill was nice. Would recommend 10/10.
Definitely the best museum in Ottawa. The exhibits are stunning and the tour guides are filled with a wealth of knowledge. Definitely worth it to go on a tour to learn about the significance of various architectural components of the museum itself. A must do for anyone wanting to learn about our role as Canadians in the different wars throughout the last 200 years.
So much history, you can spend more than a day here.
Very interesting. I could spend another 4 hours here. So much to see and learn. Very well laid out and so much information. I was amazed at Canada's role in the wars.
A must see attraction for any one who likes museums. One of my favorite museums in the Ottawa region, a great place to see tanks and different war articfacts.
A great spot to social distance while reflecting on Canada's military history. Good bookstore
Well done and informative museum
Awesome history
Fun place to spend 3 to 4 hrs learning the history of war and what it took to this day and age of peace, on the basement of the place, there were tons of tanks and armor vehicles
One of the best Military Museums in the World
Great place to know the history in a interesting way
Incredible experience that every Canadian should see.
Loved the patience and service. I admit my kid can be handful... person explained not to touch and was extremely patient with my son, explaining why he should not touch tanks, etc... professional staff!!!
Excellent collection of very well preserved and curated artifacts ranging from the very first beginnings of canada to our latest deployments. Be sure to have a lot of time when visiting. The main themed displays are really awesome but there is a huge collection of other vehicals in an adjacent section that you will be sorry if you miss. The only minor complaint would be that the main dispays can be somwhat dimley lit.

Awesome! Plan to stay for hours. Street parking at the meter is $4 for 90 min. This isn't posted anywhere.
A very impressive recreation of terrible WW1 battlefields, trenches and mud
Every Canadian should visit this fantastic exhibit. Every conflict we have ever been involved in is detailed here with stunning artifacts, photographs, information and models. Its an emotional one, we had to take a break halfway through. ☮️
We found the museum easy to visit. Parking underground was reasonable considering one needs at least 2 hours for a visit, and perhaps a half day for the most detailed tour of all the exhibits. We bought our tickets a day ahead as with covid social spacing permits less people to tour the museum each day. One should visit this museum. A small measure to give thanks to all our brave servicemen for their duty to country and the freedom we often take for granted.
Thoughtfully laid out and very thorough.
As always, an amazing experience coming here. I feel like there is never enough time to get through everything properly, give yourself a good 4 or 5 hours to really experience it proper. Multiple exhibits provide so much to look at and read in to. Well put together displays featuring some very exclusive items truly make the experience awesome. Cafe was excellent and provided a brief menu of fairly priced food. Gift shops had some neat souvenirs. Would recommend any day of the week.
War is often glorified simply as some sort of honourable, righteous endeavour. The exhibits at the war museum show just how brutal war is. It is a heavy subject so you might be tempted to rush through but take your time to absorb the enormity of war.
A must visit place to know the history of Canadian participation in past wars especially second world war.
Very organized with audiovisual displays too. Many artifacts from the wars in mint condition. Gallery 3 is where they keep Hitlers original car. It was a nice experience and it was so worth it !!! Go and visit it !!! Gift shop had nice things too.
A wonderfully presented and informative museum. Well laid out and great for all ages
From stones to missiles, this museum showed how man excelled in the art of war throughout the history. The exhibitions showcased the different warfare participated by the country. As a Hongkonger, I deeply appreciate that there was a section about the battle of Hong Kong during WW2, which 290 Canadian life were lost. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Whenever coming to Ottawa, spent a day in the museum, and reflect how precious is the peace we enjoying today.
Well organized and will give you a new appreciation for canadian history. In chronological order, starting from invasion of Native land and ending in modern wars. Plan 3 hours for this visit.
A place which will give u a time travel experience to the past
Interesting but could have been better if private sector had been involved. Typical government overpay and underdeliver.
A truly spectacular museum with amazing stores, curated display items and exhibits. You will find yourself strolling the cavernous halls for hours! A must see in Ottawa!
Great exhibits and friendly staff.
