You will see all the reviews of real people who consume the products and services of The Rooms (Museum) around Argentia area (Canada).
At present the business gets a score of 4.7 stars out of 5 and that rating was based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is virtually the highest, and it's based on a high number of reviews, so we may say that the assessment is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write tatings when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

Went to the restaurant and enjoyed the view of st John's harbour
The Rooms hands down is one of the best museums in Newfoubdland, laden with rich history at different exhibits. Must visit for anyone visiting St. John's.
Pretty good gallery. Great view.
It is an absolute must see while in St John's.
I wish I had more time to enjoy this view of history and art in St. John's. We had a brilliant view of the city and were provided with a history lesson from a previous resident traveling his old stomping grounds as a child. Truly a unique building.
We kept it for a rainy day since we wanted to take our time to visit. It was very interesting. We walked there and sure we could not miss it since we see it from everywhere.
Awesome view of St John's harbour great food and service.
Great place for all ages because there you will learn many historical things about Newfoundland's culture, animals, sailing, fish's, bird's, Nobel peoples , war heroes and much more. If you want to increase your knowledge about NL, I would say go there and visit. When you reach the upper floor your get amazing harbor views from there.
Great tour by the staff. They are very knowledgeable and gave our students lots of time to explore.
Excellent museum of Newfoundland history and culture. Spectacular view of St. John's harbour from 4th floor.
Amazing oasis of culture and history. Pick a rainy day and enjoy!!
The architecture and setting of the building are in modern style. I feel different. Museum usually looks old.. but not for the rooms.. Great..
Staff was very welcoming. Even called a cab for me when the weather became rainy. A truly beautiful building and the displays are well presented. Enjoyed tye theatre where there was a presentation that highlighted the muti- cultural nature of Newfoundland. Highly recommend a visit!
I'm not a museum person, but loved this Canadian historical gem. Very modern, up to date and relevent.
Seafood chowder taste more after potatoes then seafood. Totally overpriced. So much money for tiny soup with cream and potatoes.
Of all the places I visited in Newfoundland, The Rooms was the best. Loved every exhibits. Staffs were nice and helpful. The food at cafeteria wasn’t something I loved but wanna visit here again sometime.
Perfect blend of history, art, culture and coffee. The ideal place for locals to bring come-from-away relatives or simply to enjoy one of the best views in the city. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The cafe is fancy enough to impress, but not outrageously expensive.
Beautiful building. Definitely have lunch in the cafe. The exhibits were family friendly and informative. Has a little bit of everything.
I loved it I needed pics of the war and I hot more than I needed
An interesting museum overlooking the city. Beautiful views and a lovely restaurant.
Great view from the restaurant. Wonderful art gallery. Great museum. Love the Newfoundland focus in the museum.
Spent 4 hours walking all the different exhibits everything was great. The place was super clean and the staff were very helpful. Everything was laid out great! From Newfoundland wildlife, and the history of Newfoundland in the war it was …
Really well laid out and great content. Multiple floors too. Bonus is the building has great architecture. Free admission on Thursdays from 6-9pm!!!
Fantastic except there should be one or two days of free public access
Excellent details in this buildings. Lots of interesting information.
Great place to visit and explore
A beautiful museum. The building was more spectacular than some of the displays. It was interesting. Worth one visit but no more than one.
Cafe at the top and views are the main attraction. Historical displays dotted about are good too.
A great space that's filled with knowledge. There's a WW1 exhibit showcasing Newfoundland's contribution to the war effort that's truly worth a longer gander. Kids will live the interactive play exhibit with a see-saw that can accommodate over 3000 pounds. In the same exhibit is a weird chess set/art piece donated by Yoko Ono... Which may be too abstract for younger minds.
So educational, art was beautiful, and the desserts at the restaurant were sooooo good!
The other reviews didn't do this place justice. This is a museum on the history of Newfoundland, from the First Nations, to the cod industry, through WW1, the natural history, and more. Full of artifacts and neat stuff. There are art galleries and just so much to see. Absolutely worth it.
absolutely stunning displays and wonderful staff. this is a must visit if you're in the area.
Very informative and a great place to visit on a rainy day.
Good place to visit. No entrance fees.
Good museum with displays covering the history of Newfoundland - natural and human
Local treasure. We live in the neighbourhood and love going there; excellent galleries/museums/exhibits and best views of downtown/narrows.Very Kid friendly as well!!
Must visit museum that provides valuable insight into Nfld history. Also, one of the nicest lunch spots upstairs with special views onto St. John's harbour.
Great museum. I especially liked the whale skeletonw. Quite a climb to get there.
Super modern and well designed museum. St-John can be proud of this place
My daughter love this place. We have an amazing lunch at the cafe overlooking the city and then take our time and go through the exhibits. Lots of "hands on" things for kids too
Very nice display. Lots of history. Great place for dinner or breakfast. Beautiful setting and write friendly staff.
Very nice exhibits. I spent the most time in the gallery about the Nfld Regiment...very touching.
I've been to The Rooms many times! It's always a great place to visit and take photos. The restaurant serves great food, I loved the Cod Au Gratin.
We go for the playgroup on Tuesdays, very entertaining hosts. Highly recommend.
he view from the Rooms is absolutely beautiful, providing it's a clear day. The food is good and the service is friendly. A nice place to have lunch.
We went for breakfast and it was awesome!
Great artifacts and information. The restaurant was nice too.
Beautiful museum and gallery, would recommend to anyone visiting or new to St. johns
Classy lunch café... delicious warm root vegetable salad. Overlooking the St. John's harbour.
Main highlight is the view, the food is and service is good. decently priced
Nice view of the harbour! It's definitely not a place to miss if you're visiting St.John's. Nice exhibits and a nice cafe not he 2nd or 3rd floor with a great view.
Really amazing collection of artifacts from all over Newfoundland. Every exhibit has detail explanations of what they are. Beautiful building with 4 levels of things to see. Must go when in st.johns. Very affordable day, took us 4 hours to see everything.
Lovely little spot of local culture and history. And don't eat before you go - take advantage of the cafe with the outstanding views of the harbour!
Definitely a lot of information about Newfoundland. Worth the visit. Free parking was nice.
All year round, The Rooms has many fascinating exhibitions. Every season you go there, expect a totally awesome and different experience. The cafe also is a very neat place to get a quick little snack. Whatever time it is, it's a good time to visit The Rooms.
This is a beautiful building with fantastic views of the city housing a compact collection of historical and art works including a number of interactive exhibits including a whale skeleton you can help assemble like a puzzle.
Our first visit but not our last. We will have to return and see the parts we missed. Simply awesome
Paid 10 dollars to go in rooms with no audio explaining what we were looking at. Kind of boring to be honest. More information on Labrador history rather then Newfoundland in MY opinion.
Lovely museum and art gallery. Iews spectacular. Food in restaurant delicious too..
Really nice. It can teach you about a bit of art and newfoundland's history.
As a local, I highly recommend a visit to The Rooms whether you've lived here your whole life or are visiting for the first time. There's something for everyone. I've been here many times since it has opened and always had a great experience and learned something as well. Beautiful building with a gorgeous view of downtown and the harbour too!
Beautiful displays of history and culture, would love to do it again in more detail next time as many displays are inactive (Covid).
Easy to find. Reasonably priced. Well displayed exhibits. Wonderful Staff great food. Touched an ice berg....learned some Newfoundland slang.
Outstanding exhibit very interesting information and worth the time spent.
This is the best place to go on a rainy day. And a sunny day if you want to get cool. We loved the whole place. Most interesting and enjoyed the movie about Gemma Hickley. Everyone should visit the Room.
Convenient all-in-one art gallery and museum. Incredible view of the harbour. It may not house an enormous amount of art and artifacts but just as charming as the locals. My 9 yo and I spent almost 3 hours there!
Amazing collection that covers a huge cross section of Newfoundland's history. The area that focuses on Newfoundland's contribution to World War One is fascinating. Huge historical archive where I was able to find a picture of the naval regiment that my Dad served in in World War Two
good place to get knowledge, and the fourth floor is nice place to drink a coffe, food and get a best view to see st.john's
Very interesting place to visit. Choirs were singjng when we were there. The place rang with the beautiful voices of the choirs.
World class facility, great food and a view of the harbour. Even found a family connection in one of the museums
Great museum and fun galleries! Good deal for students
A great museum dedicated to the human history of the Newfoundland people - from when it was discovered by the European, the development of local culture, to the impact of its sacrifices in the WWI.
Awesome place to visit. Great displays.
Always a pleasure to visit The Rooms. Worth the view any day
Great mixture of human and natural history as well as local art
A great overview of Newfoundland culture in a simple to follow series of presentations. I would recommend this to any visitor.
Quite indepth Canadian history about early ethnic groups, main exhibitions are on the 3rd and 4th floor. The theatre on the 2nd floor is a good relaxing place after walking through top downward, some short movies you probably don't pay attention to in daily life, but very impressive!
Great place to learn about The Rock at the beginning of your trip. Incredible history, geology and mostly the people. Proud but sad to learn about their war contributions and heroism. The cafe is also very good.
Very cool place, kid friendly wonderful exhibits and great staff
Excellent exhibits. Lots of information and artifacts from newfoundland's past. The WW1 Newfoundland memorial exhibit was wonderfully put together.
Wonderful museum and food is very good.
This was a fabulous introduction to Newfoundland and Labrador history and culture. A pleasant mix of museum and gallery, this enchanting set of exhibits features a fabulous view of St. Johns.
This building, .... represents a tribute to our people and a place in which to preserve our history and culture for generations to come.
This place is amazing and if you have the time you need to come here
Comprehensive collection of Newfoundland history
Incredible museum/art gallery with amazing views out over St. John's and the harbour. Lots of information about how hard life is and was on "The Rock". Stories about sealing disasters, ships disappearing(sunk), the battle of Beaumont Hamel is probably one of the most poignant. Out of 800 Newfoundlanders who went "over the top" on the first day of the Battle of the Somme only 64 answered the roll call the next day. Lots of personal stories about those who were left behind and those who never returned. Very moving!
Absolutely beautiful space. Really ideal spot for a gorgeous wedding.
Fantastic Museum. First Wednesday of ever month is Free! Also to save on parking, park at the Sobeys just down the road.
The lady at admissions was super friendly. My young boys had a great time exploring the animal area and asked lots of questions about everything else. We will definitely be going back.
Just ok. Very small museum.
Good food. Felt like I was being rushed out as they set up a private party. Temporary exhibits all taken down 90 minutes before closing. Should have given us ou badmission back
Beautiful gallery with stunning view
For the love of God whatever you do DO NOT STOP HERE FOR A MOMENT WHILE WAITING FOR SOMEONE to enter together. The security WILL tell you to leave.
The Rooms is a fantastic museum - very interesting spot with lots for both children and adults. They have featured exhibits (the schedule is available online) and activities for children. The price is a little steep but it's worth the price …
Lovely spot. My favourite was the art gallery. Free on Wednesday nights and a great place to spend an afternoon.
The best fish Taco I've ever had, with beautiful view
It has the most beautiful point of view in the town!
Amazing. We will be back.
The culture inside these rooms are unparalleled. By far my favorite spot to go inside st John's. Some of the exhibits had me speachless.
The culture inside these rooms are unparalleled. By far my favorite spot to go inside st John's. Some of the exhibits had me speachless.
The Rooms is a great place to learn about our history. The annual pass is cheap, gets you free parking and there are always great activities to get the kids involved.
Some of the best views in the city. Live the restaurant. Great exhibits.
Very good and complete museum showing Newfoundland's history. Plan on at least 1/2 day. Beautiful coffee shop/restaurant with a view of the city on site! Enjoy!
I find it difficult to sum up my opinion of The Rooms, as it is both a archtectual and historic Masterpiece. From the moment you arrive the scale and grandness of the building just beckons to be visited. The architecture reminisce of a ship and it's glass and brick facade is breathtaking. Inside is no less exciting. From history to art this museum has something for all ages.
We visited the restaurant which has excellent, friendly service, and delicious meals that are priced appropriately. The view is wonderful as well. Highly recommend a visit as the museum portion looked fascinating as well.
Lots to keep the kids busy and entertained, great exhibits, and a wonderful restaurant. And the best view of the harbour!
The Rooms has very interesting and collectively diverse exhibits. The space is beautiful designed and has some wonderful views of St. John's Harbour. I found the exhibit about the World War 1 experiences of the Newfoundland Regiment the most interesting.
I thoroughly enjoyed the WWI exhibit and found it really engaging, I personally wasn't taken by the rest of the exhibits on. The exhibit on St John's history had real potential but the touch screens installed seemed to all have a standard "coming soon"written under each learn more section The cafe is a must, best view in st John's
Beautiful views of the Harbour and a well stocked hift shop
great spot for the kids. cafe has an incredible view
Nice restaurant, good expositions, beautiful place.
One of the nicest museums I’ve ever been to. The WW II section tells the story of all the residents that took part in the war. Very well done
Great tourist location. Lots of history and art from the area.
My experience at the Café was 5 stars. My experience of getting a parking ticket just because the security felt like it deserved no stars, so that's why I've settled on 3. I was parked in the designated parking for the visitors to the building, had brunch inside for my birthday, and got a ticket. When I asked security, he was rude and unhelpful. He also didn't express any remorse for giving me a ticket that was obviously a mistake. Unfortunately, this experience overpowered the great food and service I received in the Café.
The exhibits were presented very well. I would not recommend eating anything more than an apatizer in the cafe. Tried the rice bowl with Pork which was a fatty mess. The service was good.
Wow, what an inside experience enjoyed immensely by a basically outdoor person, so much to absorb in such an awe inspiring facility - great curb appeal, especially from a distance!! Thanks!
Spectacular in every way, from the building, its position looking over the harbour entrance and town, to the exhibits, the staff and the restaurant, well worth a visit
Must see museum to understand the history of Newfoundland. Large collection of artifacts. The restaurant on the top floor serve excellent food.
Wonderful museum of NL history, I hope the WW1 exhibition is permenant as it's truly fantastic. As well as that the cafe has the best view in town and really delicious food - a hidden gem for sure
Great spot to visit with lots of interesting exhibits. Highly recommend you take a day to visit this location and learn some of the rich history about Newfoundland.
Fantastic for many reasons. Great exhibits. Great programs for kids. Great place to get lunch. Great views!
Good place for family's, friends and students.
Worth the price of admission, especially the restaurant. I recomend the crab cakes.
This place is extremely cool! If you want to get a look at Newfoundland history this is an excellent place to look at it all. We did not go take the tour or look at the museums but just a quick walk up to the restaurant and I could tell that the place was well taken care of and well maintained. The restaurant has probably one of the greatest veiws in St John's! They food is a little pricey but it is excellent!
The Rooms is an amazing museum that really places the past and contemporary history of Newfoundland and Labrador in a clean, engaging, and updated setting. The facility itself is beautiful, with a great cafe with amazing views. The art gallery here is equally wonderful.
Fantastic facility that includes the provincial archives, art gallery, and history museum. It provides an unvarnished history of Indigenous mistreatment throughout 'settler' history seldom found in other historical accounts.
Bread pudding and Buddha Bowl were great at the Cafe on the 4the floor. The view of downtown St. John's is amazing. Relaxed atmosphere.
Helpful, friendly and knowledgable staff. High quality programming and featured displays in art gallery portion. High quality gifts in gift shop. The most spectacular view of the city is from its nice restaurant. The building is beautiful. I did not visit either the archives or museum, and cannot comment on that aspect of The Rooms.
Lovely galleries well organized and displayed
You can spend a day and still not see everything.
Excellently curated exhibits. Built high on the south end of Downtown St. John's, The Rooms offers breathtaking views of the harbour. I visited out of curiosity about the exhibit on local slang terms, but found there was so much more to see. I recommend the memorial exhibit to the soldiers of the First World War. It's frequently updated with knowledge from families in the community, and expertly designed to honour their memories. There is a cafe on the top floor. The staff are very welcoming. I was told by the receptionist that 4 hours would be plenty to see the entire museum.
Great place, parking is a little inconvenient (if the lot in the front is full you have to leave and drive around another street to reach the back parking lot) and very little accessible parking in the front. There are not clear rules posted with regards to photography and I seemed to be getting into trouble with the security guards for almost everything (i.e. too close to the ledge, moving a seat, setting up a tripod). Will know this for next time!
A nice set of museums, professionally put together and run. The building itself is beautiful, with great views over the town and harbour. Upstairs there is a nice cafe, although it is a bit more restaurant-like than most museums: table service, entrees, and in general not the feeling that you can settle in with a cuppa and relax. If you're visiting, this is a good way to spend a good bit of the day. If time is limited, the third floor seems the most informative about NF's history.
Lots of interactive exhibits lately. Very kid friendly, especially in the museum half
Got to learn a lot of the history of Newfoundland. Was a great place to spend a rainy day. You can get breakfast, lunch and coffee as well!
Really enjoyed this venue. Well laid out. The cafe is quite modern and the food is very good. Lovely breakfast. The WW1 exhibit is worth the visit. I loved the attention put on the NA Indian history. Go and watch the movie on the ground level as well.
Breathtaking views. Clean and comfortable environment. Ample parking. Great historical information.
Lovely little spot of local culture and history. And don't eat before you go - take advantage of the cafe with the outstanding views of the harbour!
The view from the top floor is great of the harbour. Kind staff.
Beautiful building. I went just to the gift shop and left under 15 minutes so I didn't gave to pay for park8ng
The museum had lots to see and was a good stop for us on our trip. If you have interests in history and culture, this is the place for you! There’s also some art exhibits and those were lovely as well. Enjoyed our time here.
Perfect intro to Newfoundland. Interesting architecture that dominates the skyline. Bonus view of an iceberg at the time we visited
Beautiful view from restaurant and lovely food!
The free Wednesday every month really makes the rooms accessible to everyone and anyone. Always find something interesting.
Historical, cultural, educational, resourceful, creative entertainment. Overall an extrodinary experience. And the food was pretty good. Well done.
The Rooms is probably the only decent museum within mile's reach on the Avalon peninsula. Apart from that, though, it is absolutely worth a visit. This very interesting museum disseminates the colourful and stirring past of Newfoundland: …
Very nice museum that does a great job with bringing you into Newfoundland history! Picture is the view from the window.
Great place for visitors. Close to downtown and you will find some great art work. Located in a lovely spot with Newfoundland's beautiful landscape.
Great experienced! Learned history of Newfoundland and many more!
Perfect blend of history, art, culture and coffee. The ideal place for locals to bring come-from-away relatives or simply to enjoy one of the best views in the city. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The cafe is fancy enough to impress, but not outrageously expensive.
Wow wow what a great place. The view is spectacular and the food every bit as good. Very simple - go there.
Nice exhibits explaining the history and cultural background of St. John's and Newfoundland & Labrador. Great for a rainy afternoon. Restaurant overlooks the city and harbour.
The Rooms is a gem. Friendly staff and spotless. A great place to relax, learn a lot of the wonderful history of NL and view some fantastic art. Does not disappoint.
Managed to see the exhibition on the first world war, and the young men and women who fought for "King and Country" protecting the Dominion of Newfoundland along side their brothers of the Commonwealth. Very informative and powerful exhibition, telling a story of Canada I had been ignorant to. I'm glad I was able to see this!
I have been going there since it was built. While I have never liked the exterior, the interior is lovely. The public does not have a lot of access and much of the museum is unavailable but what is displayed for the public is lovely. They have a number of exhibitions that are amazing, a great space for events and are well worth the visit. Be prepared for a lack of parking sometimes - it is often a popular spot.
Great place to spend a couple of hours, great for the kids
Amazing Museum. Extremely well done displays with a wealth of information
Architecture is beautiful, great museum component. Food is good but expensive though the view is the best in the city. Small gift shop.
Amazing place if you are interested in ww1
3 stars for gallery. 5 stars for war memorials. Touching and poignant
Incredible destination and a must-visit within St. John’s. Learn about the fascinating history of Newfoundland. Start with fossils 450m years old and travel all the way to the city we know and love today. Great chance to learn about some amazing history and have a great time doing it.
Great bit of history about NL. Cafe is good with an amazing view of the harbour.
Always great exhibits and fun stuff for the kids too!
Beautiful museum. Great variety of exhibits.
A thorough coverage of the province's social and natural history. Informative and entertaining!
The museum was great, but didn’t have as much historical content as there could have been. Too much dead space or gimmicks rather than historical pieces. Aren’t there more things to talk about or explore? There must be. Bonus points for having galleries within the building.
Beautiful building with an amazing view. The exhibits are though out and well curated.
Need a lot of time to go through all the exhibits. Found the war exhibit very touching, the personal side of how war affects people.
Awesome venue! Awesome on highlighting Newfoundland past and present!
A wonderful place combining art galleries, museums and archives. Good for the family with some interactive activities. And the food at the restaurant was good and well-priced.
Really surprising the high quality of the different galleries. Not enough parking.
We enjoyed what we saw of The Rooms but only gave ourselves an hour and a half, which was only enough time to cover one of several floors. Unfortunately, tickets are not transferable so be sure you give yourself plenty of time to view all of the exhibits.
Really enjoyed this museum while we were in Newfoundland
Great museum! Not only is it brand new, but the exhibits are diverse and very educative. Particularly the one about the first world war. It is very inexpensive compare to museums in big cities and the view from the second and third floor is great. I recommend!
Excellent view of the city and numerous floors of exhibits to view ! The history of Newfoundland summed up in one beautiful central location.
An excellent place.to learn about Newfoundland and Labrador. Great.place for lunch.
A must-see for any visitors to Saint John's. Lots of neat exhibits.
Interesting exhibits, friendly staff, occasional free nights, and a cozy atmosphere.
Great place. Very interesting exhibits
Really Enjoyed always changing
Amazing place to visit. The rooms is a museum, art gallery and archives in one fabulous building... loved my visit!
What a space! NL has outdone itself with a museum that does an incredible job of sharing their rich and colourful history. We were lucky enough to take in an exhibition of their contributions or more appropriately, their sacrifices of the Great War, particularly the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel. This was made special with the help of descendents of those who served in a variety of capacities including nurses and foresters as well as soldiers, recounting their family members role, contributions and the price they paid. Things are always changing at The Rooms but there is something for everyone. From cod to music, Cabot to Confederation and beyond, their stories are told through art and artifacts.
Great place to visit because of the architecture alone. We also enjoyed the exhibitions, though.
If you enjoy history and artifacts, you'll love The Rooms! Amazing WW1 exhibits!!
Great wealth of history here!
Beautiful. Historical Interpretation Centre. Amazing restaurant.
A variety of exhibits, something there for all ages, and a great cafe overlooking downtown and the harbour.
Absolutely stunning views from the 4th floor of The Rooms, well worth the visit if you are in St John's. We ate brunch there, I've probably give that four stars.
Great history displayed! Loved the layout and all the items to see. Great people there that explain how things worked, how items were used. Plus excellent restaurant. We enjoyed it greatly!
Incredible museum, art gallery and historical space. Loads of exhibits, fun for all ages. The permanent collection on the history of Newfoundland is excellent. Plan to stay awhile.
Great museum and art experience. Cafe and views of city from top floor are fabulous.
Friends were married there. The venue was beautiful. The meal was one of the best we have had.
Great to bring kids. Walking distance to the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Scotch egg was delicious. Looking down into the lobby was properly disturbing. Loved it.
Learnt a lot. View was fantastic. Hope I could have spent more time there
I attended a wedding reception here a number of years back. The Rooms provides a perfect setting for a reception, photo ops, etc. I'm not sure if the catering is always the same, but the food was great for this wedding!
Very cool experience and exhibits staff is knowledgeable and there is lots to learn here.
Really good Museum in Newfoundland. Provides a good history of the province and their people and habitat. There is a very good view of the St John's Harbour from the top of the building. The cafe was also quite delicious, except it was pricey, but not more than expected for a good cafe in a museum.
Great view of the city
Amazing museum and the food is awesome but a little expensive
An absolutely stunning display of Newfoundland history. The place was very clean, and great display throughout, all categorized by occasion. …
Awesome exhibits Great food in restaurant.
Beautiful building and such interesting displays.
Amazing place if you are interested in ww1
Everthing was good, front desk was ok but not much direction of amenities and time of operation
I enjoyed the world war one exhibit immensely. However, there is a lot of wasted space at this museum. I found that the interpretive guides were missing a lot of information and coming soon was a disappointing reality. Much to be done yet. Not high on my list to return to.
Nice facility. I was a big fan of the architecture. It really gives you a sense of the history of newfoundland. The art gallery aspect was OK.
The Rooms is a brilliant museum with numerous exhibitions on three different floors plus an entrance hall and gift shop on ground floor. You will get information about the animals, arts and history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Currently, there is also an exhibition about the First World War and its impacts on Newfoundland and Labrador. You can also enjoy a stunning view of the city from the fourth floor where you can go on an observation deck or enjoy the view from a cafe.
Great museum. A must see if here. Not the prettiest building from the outside, but spectacular views and great exhibits. Need to tell better aboriginal stories, however.
My favourite place for a meal and view when I am in St. Johns. Affordable compared to downtown options with consisently better quality food and good portions. Limited table seating.
A great place to include in your visit to the province.
Very nice museum. Great history of Newfoundland. Very interesting. 4 different levels. Reasonable rates.
Love when new exhibits come to town. Really nice place to visit and the cafe is delicious.
A wonderful piece of modern architecture in a terrific location. The food in the café is excellent too. I didn't have time to view the exhibits, unfortunately, but I wish I had.
Great view and good coffee. Will have to come back to see the exhibits
Beautiful museum. You need a whole afternoon to really see it all.
Beautiful spot, exhibit on the Royal Newfoundland Regiment is breath taking.
Amazing place with spectacular view
Great displays and lots of fun historical information. I highly recommend this to anyone that would like to know more about Newfoundland's past, have a good meal, or do searching through the NL archives!
This place has amazing exhibitions of local and international artists.
The Rooms Archives is a font of information on the history and genealogy of Newfoundland. The staff is wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful. If you are having some difficulty with your researching, they will skillfully point you in different paths to your goal. It is a must place to visit while traveling in St. John's.
The rooms is a good day trip to take your family, partner and/or friends. Have a look around, learn about NL heritage, check out beautiful views of St John's and then finish off with a bite to eat at the restaurant on the top floor. Would go again!
I brought an art class there today...an art class!!! And we were treated like garbage! They tried several times to kick us out of our drawing area saying we couldn't be moving the chairs around. Every other time I've been there, there was no problem. But apparently the head cheese doesn't like it anymore and their security staff weren't shy about trying to shove us out. One of my students was a member of the Rooms and she was shocked and "embarassed" by the whole thing. If you want to draw...the Rooms is the last place I'd go.
Highly recommend the Royal Newfoundland Regiment/Beaumont-Hamel exhibit.
Amazing architecture. Excellent exhibits. Friendly informative staff.
Great place to explore on a rainy day. The cafe has awesome views and a nice menu.
Awesome experience. The history and art of Newfoundland presented within a beautiful building with knowledgeable and kind people all around. I'm glad we didn't miss this. (And a great restaurant with a stunning view!)
Great views of the harbour. Didn't really do the displays.
Informative and beautifully designed - you can’t miss this if you’re in the area. We also enjoyed drinks and the view from the top floor café before walking through the exhibits.
Beautiful! While is more focused on settler-colonial history still have an approach to reconciliation with Indigenous people. Can improve in this regard tho. Still, a nice approach to micro-history of Newfoundland and Labrador
This is a must see if you're in St John's I'm so glad I came. The WWI exhibit should be top of your list. The view alone is worth the price of admission. Gift shop has some unique items I didn't see anywhere else in tourist areas.
Worth visiting as a tourist, even just for the view from the windows. But we did a quick walk through the various exhibits and enjoyed them. One room had quite peculiar video art and a dead dog or something. Haha might avoid the far corners of the modern art section with the kids. Not to worry, this section has a warning and could be easily skipped if you have small children. Better section was the natural history section about Newfoundland. I learned a little bit in there that was a nice overview before driving across the island.
Great experience...everything from the meal to the exhibits were incredible.
Personally enjoyed my time here
You will need a full day. Restaurant is busy but great spot to stop for a bite to eat
Really great place for people of all ages. My son attends the play group on Tuesdays in the spring and loves it!
Amazing historical account of Newfoundland. From indigenous people and cultures to wartime contributions.
Amazing place, love it every time I go
Been going for Years! Seen every exhibit! Never gets old. And the cafe is great as well. Also, now more then ever, its important to support downtown st johns. Keep it all going for future generations to enjoy :)
If you are a student and interested in art you should definitely buy a membership.
Great place to come and explore and also understand the history of St. John's. It has around 2 museums and 2 art galleries. They also keep changing the exibits every so often so you are not going to see the same exact stuff everytime. Take your time to explore The Rooms, It takes around 2 to 4 hrs to read everything and enjoy the exibits!
Great little art and history museum. Lovely way to spend an hour and learn a little bit about Newfoundland history and culture.
Fantastic and modern facility with many great exhibits.
Wonderful lunch followed by a stop at the Collections display. Last visit we saw the Mary Pratt exhibition and learned about Rae Perlin. Thank you Rooms for showing us the past, present and glimpses of the future. Beautiful space. Always a joy spending time there.
Great comprehensive museum of everything Newfoundland & Labrador. The architecture can be divisive, but it is inarguably one of the most recognizable landmarks on The Rock. It's worth visiting if only for the unmatched view of the harbor and Signal Hill.
If it is raining on your vacay time, its a nice stop to explore
Great exhibits on local history and natural history; interesting Newfoundland art as well. Good in the rain. Also nice views of the harbour on a clear day.
Nice place with great views. We ate at the restaurant. Expensive but very tasty typical Newfoundland fare (fish cakes and cod tongues).
A must visit if you are in St. John's. The Museum, archives, an art gallery all under one roof. Also a lovely restaurant café.
Good museum, my favorites parts of this one are the wildlife part and the other part that i liked was the section where there are the death of second world war (canadian army)... At the top of the museum there's a good café with an amzing view of saint john's.
Awesome way to spend a day! Great exhibits and lots of information on local history/culture
The best collection of Newfoundland and Labrador's art, culture, and historical resources, housed within a beautiful unique building. Great little resteraunt too.
Great exhibits on nature, civilization, war, and heritage. Also, has a cafe with an amazing view of St. John’s
Great exhibits, friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean and beautiful facility and a lot to see.
Amazing museum. We easily spent half of a rainy day in there. That is with two kids and few people that didn't eve know English, the art portion speaks for itself. Very unique presentation style I haven't seen in any other museums.
Commentaries are worth listening to. Displays of Titanic and rocks are outstanding.
Beautifully curated exhibits in a wonderful unique space. Awesome view of the city and harbor!
Absolute treat allow lots of time. Hard to describe emotions you feel at some of the exhibits. Beautiful building and view.
A truly wonderful facility that offers spectacular architecture, a beautiful view of St. John's and the harbour. We visited the art gallery, archives, restaurant and the museum. Everybody was so very friendly, helpful informative from the security officer's at the front to the front desk staff. We met a gentleman who worked in archives and he offered several great travel tips, history of St. John's and told us where the best fish and chips were.
Great way to spend an afternoon. Exhibits for pretty much anyone's tastes. An excellent view from the top floor.
Really nice museum, art gallery and Newfoundland and Labrador nature and natural experience. Nice WW1 Newfoundland regiment exhibit. Could spend all day there. Also nice views of Signal Hill and the harbour.
The place is very well maintained, the best part is the restaurant, specially seafood chowder. If you are into Canadian history, you will enjoy. I liked the nufi expressions displayed in the second floor
Lots of Newfoundland history here. The cafe had very good food, and the views are incredible
Interesting. Still learned a lot as someone who grew up here in Newfoundland!
Highly recommended, will visit again
My friend had some family picture done here! Great place to visit as well
Nice place to kill time lots of info on the foundation of Newfoundland
I was expecting more. There was an exhibition going on when I went there, nothing really extra ordinary.
I really enjoyed the design and layout of the museum. They have a lot to offer from art to live music. The views from the observation decks are impressive and the price of admission is also very affordable.
Great place to spend the day. So many different exhibits and pieces.
Best way to make use of a spectacular view of the Narrows and Signal Hill - Meet there late afternoon, order a bottle of wine and some nibbles! And chat the daylight away!!! PERFECT!
Great museum, really cool layout. The exhibitions were very interesting and I took the WW1 guided tour. The tour guide did a very good job.
Beautiful view of St John's combined with exhibits that are thoughtfully put together. A visit is definitely recommended
I could spend HOURS wandering around the beautiful exhibits. It's a beautiful place.
Wonderful place to go for our wonderful history from the beginning to now. Not expensive to visit. Fabulous views is old St. JOHNS and a restaurant on the third floor for great food. Food is a little on the expensive side.
Lovely spot to eat a cheesecake and and have a nice view of St John's Harbour.
Great way to experience Newfoundland and Labrador's natural and cultural history. The exhibits are amazing and its wery well organized. Located in heart of downtown and nearby to all places. There are also events that are organized during working hours. They have a in house restaurant $$$.
A magnificent structure inside and out. Interesting exhibits, art and a very nice gift shop.
A museum that combines art, history and culture under one roof, thus Three Rooms. It has a wonderful exhibit of Newfoundland military history from WWII when Newfoundland was not part of Canada and fought as a unit of the British Army, with devastating consequences. Excellent for group tours.
Great spot well worth the annual family membership. Reasonably priced restaurant, world class WW1 section, average other permanent displays, family friendly activities during the year, fantastic gallery at the top floor. Parking free with membership. Otherwise there is a fee
Awesome collections! Stunning view of the city harbor front.
The building itself is really cool, as are the exhibits inside. The staff and volunteers are really kind and enjoy giving you extra tips about the museum. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was beautiful to watch the sun set from inside. We easily spent two hours here and could have spent more!
Lots of history, art and culture which defines the Canadian and Newfoundland people.
Amazing museum! Popped in to escape the cold of a St. John's winter and pleasantly surprised with the things on show. Nice cafe and excellent views too. Well worth a few hours of your time.
Interesting mix of museum, art gallery and archive. Spread across 4 levels in a new building on the site of an old fort. History of Newfoundland and Labrador, WW1 stories and artefacts with pictures and stories of the people who went to …
Ordered the lunch special which was the lamb burger. Texture was soft and complimented well with a delicate mayo sauce. Very well done and different take on burger. Great view as well over the city and compliments to the service being on point.
Bit expensive especially since also have to pay for parking on top of admission price. Love the exhibits though.
Great place to learn about the history of St. John's and Newfoundland, some of the animal life in the area, and see some interesting local art work. My wife and I took our honeymoon across Newfoundland in 2019 and this was a great stop.
An awesome museum! I love been there
Great way to learn about Newfoundland and its past
Modern facility in the historic part of St. John's. Museum, art gallery and the home of the provincial archives.
Not what I expected, classroom lecture was very expensive for what we got. 5$ per child. This event was for children, poorly delivered.
This museum is well titled for it perfectly describes the experience; there are several rooms in the building, each displaying a different exhibition. Although modest, the museum is educational and enjoyable; we particularly enjoyed the multimedia theater.
Lunch at the Cafe was stupendous!
Many excellent exhibits, well presented, interesting and informative. Guided tours available (but ours seemed to be led by a novice; no doubt they will improve in time and with practice). Beautiful building, offers stunning views of the harbour, etc.
Very modern museum with great views and interesting history of this unique place
Just a great place to spend an afternoon. Lots to see and enjoy.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food (chowder!), friendly staff and great view of St. John's. Highly recommended.
It was okay, alot of duplicate items and ALOT of empty space.
If you are heading to St John's make sure you make a trip to this unique spot that soars over the landscape and does a great job of displaying artifacts, etc. that detail "The Rock's" unique maritime culture and history.
Amazing. Learned and saw a side of Canadian history that needs to be valued!
Great museum! Loved the WWI exhibit and learning more about the Newfoundland culture. Our first time to Newfoundland, visiting from Alberta and glad we went
Best views of downtown St. John's. Fantastic architecture. Great exhibits. Excellent food
Admission is free between 6 - 9 pm on the first Wednesday evening of the month. There may be a charge for some Wednesday evening programs and events.
Beautiful museum! Great restaurant !
Good for scenery (large windows/elevated position). Displays dependant on personal preference
Great museum. Lots of exhibits had changed since I was there last
The atmosphere was calm but interesting. The museum items gave a great insight to St John's community start up. Food was great at the restaurant. Courteous service as well. Would gladly recommend
Excellent exhibition of Newfoundland history and lore. Look for EARLE'S FISH????????
Great place to go for an evening or a day. I'd recommend planning a day trip as there's so much to see and do. They have free admission on the first Wednesday of every month which is a good opportunity to check it out.
Nice museum to show Newfoundland history, culture and arts.
Really enjoyed our visit! Would definitely recommend.
I wish I had more time in rooms museum. I could spend so much time in there reading and learning. Great lighting for each area, clean, friendly people. Cute little gift shop. Parking is a couple of bucks. But loved this place.
Great experience food in the cafe was nice too!
Unique interior, amazing view and exceptionally considerate service!
It is a wonderful showcase of NL history. It has many free exhibits and an affordable movie night.
Amazing staff Christmas party catered by Red Oak Catering. Great food and service as well as a beautiful venue.
If you are going to St. John's and want to learn more about the Island's history, spend two or three hours here. Nice view of the harbour as a bonus.
Love this place. A classic visit on a lazy weekend, especially with the Archive and the student discount. The gift store is always nice and stocks lot of stuff from local people. However I wish these tourist shops would stop selling "newfie" things made in China or Taiwan! That is very much against the handmade-with-love nature of this island. Other than that, lovely displays and I appreciate the homely touches made in them like the narration of Newfoundlanders in the background.
Loved it wish I had more time to spend. 1 hour I only got to see 1 room
It is a beautiful place to go to learn about NL history and cultures. It also has a lovely restaurant with a stunning view of Signal Hill and surrounding scenery. Their food is pretty good as well.
The Rooms in St Johns has 4 galleries full of the history of Newfoundland and Labrador and other intriguing art installations. I took my time, around 2.5 to 3 hours to delve into learning about the 10th province to join Canada. The province is unique in so many ways and you'll feel connected to the land and people after visiting this 'must visit' Museum. Pictures are of an Ugly Stick, a traditional musical instrument made to add a unique sound to the traditional Newfoundland kitchen party!
Great layout and really interesting exhibitions. The exhibitions are well thought-out, makes it easy to follow along and learn a lot.
I was very impressed. I had no idea that it was so Beautiful
Great place to visit and lots of interesting arts to view
A must see if you come to St Johns Great building to experience the history and contemporary art of Newfoundland. Excellent architectural building and fantastic views of the harbour! Worth the walk up the hill!
We didn't have time to view all displays however great value for admission price. We visited on our way to airport and they were so kind to lock our luggage behind counter while we visited! Thanks. Great views of Harbour from top floor. Also interesting to have art gallery and museum in one place. Would definitely like to return.
Beautiful building amazing view of the harbor and sea scape. The museum had lots of interesting art and artifacts great place to hang out in the city. We were especially happy to visit on a rainy day
If you're visiting St. John's and are into museums, definitely check this out! It showcases everything about Newfoundland, including its history, culture, wildlife, and everything else.
Thoughtful and thought provoking, detailing various histories of NL. Well worth your time
We love The Rooms. The cafe is great. We enjoyed a Christmas concert before it all shut down again. Exquisite building shows off NL history.
Went to see the Christmas Trees, wasn't as many as previous years but it was still quite nice.
Love spot. Great views. Adequate parking. Nice place to eat. Use of space is disappointing. Too much focus on the stairs rather than exhibition space.
Great view. Touton breakfast was good
Full of Newfoundland and Canadian history and artifacts. There is also a superb art exhibit, a great window view of St. Johns and a delectible cafe on the top floor.
Great way to spend a half day. Wonderful and informative exhibits!
This is a nice place with a great view!! The food was very tasty as we had the chowder and grilled chicken sandwich. Don't pass up on the chance. Cheers
Amazing exhibits! Beautiful view St. John's harbour.
very very well organized and presented! the cafe was surprisingly good as well, with a beautiful view of the harbour.
I love the Rooms. It is truly a breathtaking museum and if you visit St. John's and you are interested in our culture and history I definitely suggest going. I ate at the Rooms cafe while there and I suggest drinking their hot chocolate.
Loved learning about the history of salt cod production and curing processes!
Anyone who wants to see St. John's should stop here. There's a great history lesson here and a great view of the city from the fabulous restaurant inside and out. A real treasure of Newfoundland.
Newfoundland history in one location. Great exhibits-founding to present. The world war one exhibit is extraordinary.
A must visit when in St.John's. Had an amazing view of the city & harbour while enjoying a delicious lunch.
Always love going there. Hopeing to get a membership very soon.
Beautiful view. Great food. Will return shortly!
Love the "History" of my Home...
An exceptional luncheon and evening dining experience! Welcoming atmosphere with the most amazing view in and of old St. John's! A knowledgable and charming server, who couldn't do enough for our party of 8 ladies.Including automatically giving each of us separate checks, this was without us having to ask! The food was delicious and creatively presented. The menu was different and intriguing! The artistic presentation of the delicioushly prepared dishes match the sophisticated surroundings of the Rooms art galleries, museums and contemporary achitecture. This all makes for a memorable dining experience. When having to wait to get in this popular restaurant on Wednesday evening, we were seated in a waiting area and offered a glass of wine. Upon suggestion we quickly visited one of the exhibits while we waited! Also the exhibits are all free on Wednesday evenings! Highly recommend!
Beautiful museum and gallery with a great view and restaurant! There are art pieces, Natural History pieces, and military pieces. You can see signal hill from the large viewing area at the top.
It's a great place to visit on a snowy afternoon. I really enjoyed the WW1 exhibit as well as the Irish Connection exhibit. It would be awesome to see more on British/French/Irish settlement.
Best view in the city for a snack, beverage or lunch anytime of day... If the dog's out...
Always a wonderful place to visit. It has an excellent restaurant overlooking St John's Harbour. It offers a great lunch/supper menu. Lots of choices. The Rooms offers an art gallery, a research centre, well designed displays and a large viewing area overlooking the harbour. The research area has extensive documents, church and government records and much more for the historian as well as amateur researchers. When entering the main lobby of The Rooms, there's a fairly large gift shop that must be visited. It offers quite a variety of products from NL made chocolate to local books, gifts for all ages, beautiful tea cups, far too much to mention. The Rooms is a spacious, beautifully designed building which offers so much cultural heritage and history for all members of the family. If near The Rooms, it's a MUST SEE!
5/5 great place to spend the day and learn a lot do crafts and grab lunch. Do it all at The Rooms.
a beautiful and comfortable place! The design of building shows local people's appreciation of sunlight ! Also it's fun to dress up traditional uniform.
An absolutely stunning view day or night. Friendly staff with exceptional food!
Wonderful place to spend the day. You actually need a couple of days to do it right.
We only had about 3 hours here, and it was not nearly enough even to browse exhibits thoroughly. Interesting and creative idea to combine a museum and archive, so that researchers and tourists can enjoy its benefits. The restaurant had a long wait, and the guided tour had too many people.
Ready impressive outside and in. Accessible, informative, beautiful, really user friendly, comprehensive and happy. Community and Island pride well warranted.
An awesome place, especially if you are working on your genealogy in the Archives. Not only will you find the Archives, but a museum, cafe, and gift shop.
Fantastic above average service, more upscale than casual, local ingredients in the food and a view to die for!
Some really interesting and thought provoking exhibits on WW1
Nice museum great view from observation deck
Great exhibits and wonderful tour guides!!!
Amazing place so much history. My wife and spent the afternoon there
Beautiful historic presence.
A must visit place at St.Johns. 3 different museums in one building. You can see everything without get tired or bored. And a balcony with the best view of the city.
Always a great visit. Very educational and well worth your time. We were there to see Phillipa Jones exhibit entitled "Suspended."
Nicely built museum with a lot of history on the area! You'll also get a pretty decent view over St John's!
Pros: Lovely museum with a great WW1 collection. The staff was helpful and knowledgable, willing to go above and beyond in explaining the province's past. There's a lovely lookout over St John's, and a nice art gallery as well. The gift shop was reasonable, and there is food available in the building. The hours are forgiving, allowing people to visit after work. Cons: I wished there was more on Newfoundland's settlement (there was only one small exhibit in a hallway). Some of the exhibits seemed dated, with politically incorrect terms for racial groups. I don't blame the museum for this, but the lack of funding that all museums must contend with. Would love to see them get funding to redo those exhibits, and to explore more detailed Indigenous history.
If you leave this museum without a tear in your eye or a lump in in you're throat you are a person with no soul
Love the rooms. My husband and I go every time we come to St John's, this time we loved the exhibit boarder x. Absolutely wonderful place. Cafe also delicious lunch options!
Awesome place, so many interesting and historical things.
Wonderful displays - I learned SO much. Can't wait to go back.
A must see - amazing architecture - wonderful galleries - great Cafe, best view - a unique, complete experience.
Lovely! Even had a view of Signal Hill from the steps to the right of the entrance.
Very clean and great experience. Thrre is a art room that is all touchable and the was the most enjoyable for me and my kids. All around amazing and do recommend.
Good service, smoked salmon had a unique flavor and that's being polite.
Excellent people...excellent exhibits
Wonderful place to see Newfoundland's story. Great Restaurant with lovely food. Excellent service.
Really amazing museum. Informative, interactive and captivating exhibitions on each floor. I highly recommend "The Rooms" and their cafe. The fish cakes are delicious.
Had lunch at the restaurant. Good but quite pricey. Amazing views of downtown and the narrows watching ships enter the harbour.
Well worth the visit. Exhibits are well done, enjoyed learning about Newfoundland’s contribution to the war efforts. Restaurant had a great view and excellent lunch menu.
You find history, culture and animals from Newfoundland! I love it
Only had time to check out the WWI exhibit. The exhibit highlights NL importance to the great war and showing personal quote of the soldiers.
Good experience. Great archives of Newfoundland's past.
What a fantastic museum / art gallery and top it off with amazing food on the top floor what an asset for the city overlooking the harbour.
Detailed artifacts of Newfoundland history. Well presented, but a few of the electronic display guides did not work.
Very interesting and a lot of Newfoundland history. Best view of the harbour!!
Organized a tour here for some of the international students of the university. The tour group visited the place at around 7pm and left at around 8pm. One of the students realized that they left their bag at the reception upon returning home and it was almost the Rooms' closing time. I would like to thank the Rooms for helping the student retrieve her bag despite the late hour!
Beautiful building ...great view ....so much to see ..
Love the history. Great staff. Great kids programs
If you like history of Canada, definitely this is a must place to see .
History A tour of "The Room" should be done when visitor has the time to soak in all this treasure has to offer.
The Rooms is a must see for every individual in Newfoundland and Labrador... and every visitor from abroad.. the best view of the Narrows ever
Lovely, restaurant is okay
We get our money's worth and more out of our yearly family membership. I would love to see a "Christmas in Newfoundland display some year, probably showing artifacts classed 1880-1900, 1909-1920, 1920-1940 etc.....
Beautiful view from The Rooms
Has unique historical exhibits, including the only complete Newfoundland wolf (extinct) skin in existence today, as well as one of a kind and interesting art exhibits. It also has a great view of the harbour and downtown!
Fantastic museum, a cafe with good food and a great view. Fun to visit late at night
Really great military history section, but some of the other areas are less strong.
What a fantastic place. So much history. Beautiful art and exhibits.
Really like the WWI display. Probably worth looking up what is on display otherwise to see if it is of interest. The building is neat but there's lot of empty space funded by tax dollars was a key impression.
Great museum. Many displays and at a good price.
Very interesting concept - one half is museum and the other is art gallery. Also a wonderful restaurant with lovely view of the old city. We spent quite a bit of time in the museum area, and learned so much! Time well spent.
I have a membership with the rooms. Great space and awesome gallery.
We did not have much time to explore the museum when we visited but from the little that we saw, it was a great experience. We definitely intend to visit again next time we're in Newfoundland.
The Rooms is a beautiful exhibition space. Take the day to enjoy what it has to offer.
A wonderful place with amazing views of St. John's. Don't forget your camera.
Atmosphere and view was very nice. Sadly the quality of the food was below average and expensive.
I visit here a few times a year and always find new things to view.
A great cross section of Newfoundland history! Plus an amazing view of the city from the cafe! A must for any trip to St. John's!
Friendly staff and lots of information and culture. Quite a bit to explore and staff were friendly. Coat check was free, but parking is not. Outdoor parking is a little far. One small restaurant on the 3rd floor that's not bad, but not …
Interesting building inside and out. Great views of the harbour and city. Interesting exhibits. Nice coffee shop
Spent at least half the day here. Displays were very informative and well put together. Tons of information!
Pretty cool. More expensive than any other place we have been and paid parking
Well worth the visit. Plan to spend a few hours there at least to be able to see all the museum has to offer.
Love this place . So much to see , amazing .
Had a beautiful lunch here. Great Harbour view.
Large museum spread out and containing multiple exhibits with a broad range of subject matter. From modern art exhibits to the first people's who settled Newfoundland. Not to mention the Newfoundland Regiment permanent exhibit is extremely well done and is comparable to scaled down portions of the War Museum in Ottawa; moving and well presented. I would recommend visiting the Rooms at least once if you find yourself in the Saint John's area; even my partner, a life long Newfoundlander, found themselves learning something new with our visit.
Stunning view of the city and beautiful art work inside the art gallery
Beautiful view, WWI exhibit would be worth it on it's own so all other exhibits were almost a cherry on top. Great way to escape the weather
This is a must see to understand the history of Newfoundland. The restaurant was very good. You need a few hours.
Good food located in the museum, the room has a really nice view of the city and the bay. Worth checking out.
Lots of history to see here, and you can get very up close to a lot of the exhibits. The view on the top floor is great, and the dining room smells amazing. Be mindful that if you're planning on lunch, start your tour after you put in a reservation - it gets really busy, and you'll have to wait.
Well laid out, great cafe
Great visiting and permanent installations. Visited museums and galleries all over the world, and I've had the most pleasant surprises at the Rooms. Any age, any time: there's something for everyone.
Wonderful blend of history, natural history and culture that provides an immersive experience of what lies at the heart of Newfoundland's identity.
NFLD historical archives and authenticity of the people. The views of St. John's are amazing as well.
Easy to spend hours here reading the history in the museum and looking at all the displays. The Cafe on the top floor also has amazing food and beer if you are into that sort of thing
Housed in a spacious building with a modern architecture and great views of St. John's downtown and harbor. Free entrance on Thursday evenings. The well-curated museum showcases the history, archaeology, art, and culture of the province. There are also feature films at the theater, which shows the long fishing tradition in the area and the controversial fishing moratorium imposed by the federal government in the early 90s, which resulted in huge job losses. Stayed for three hours.
Didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have liked, however The Rooms had some great exhibits and the building itself was truly stunning. It was great that the place featured both museum and art gallery exhibits to offer a much more diverse viewing experience. Would love to visit again with more time if given the chance.
The war museum was great, everything else was mediocre...can't speak for the restaurant as they closed early
Very modern and clean museum. It was actually much bigger then I thought and took me a few hours to finish which I was pleasantly surprised. The rates were reasonable. Lots of history and art which was a nice mixture. Spent a great Sunday afternoon there and got to learn a lot about the area.
Actually, I couldn't believe my eyes when I entered The Room for the first time in 5years that I have been here. I am astonished! History is REAL.
A beautifully curated space with volunteers all around to assist with interpretation. A must-do for visitors to St. John's.
Excellent museum. Done very well & highly recommended.
Went to the cafe for breakfast. While the coffee was suitable, the breakfast was not at all. The scrambled eggs were runny, the potato serving was a baked potato smashed literally on the plate. The bacon was greasy. There wasn't any serving of toast. Very disappointed. It costs 16.50 for just the breakfast. The view was lovely but the food is awful. Will never recommend to anyone to eat there.
Spent just an hour here and wish we could have spent more. Excellent display on Newfoundland and Labrador peoples and natural history, wonderful portrait of Newfoundland people's service in WWI.
Go early and take a lunch break here. Great food and view. This place is so well ran and interesting .
Too much native.... Nothing on Irish.
The Rooms is never disappointing. A coffee in the Cafe with beautiful views and local open circle of musicians.
Attended the afternoon tea. The food, service and the view were fantastic!
A wonderful museum. Plan to spend a few hours. Views from the 3rd floor are spectacular.
Extremely interesting and varied displays on Newfoundland art, history, and culture. The building has a great view of St John's harbour as well!
Wonderful place. Don't have to do the pay to go exhibits to have fun...the airplane vr was great
Very informative museum, very impressive structure.
It was $10 for an adult. You're not allowed backpacks in the building, so you're given a locker for it. Also it's free entry after 6pm on the first Wednesday of each month. The memorial exhibition for the soldiers of the World War I is highly interesting. Also, there are many interesting art exhibits in the art galleries as well. It's a cool place to visit.
Nice selection of galaries and historical exhibits to look at
Great exhibits.
Beautiful building with good exhibits and lovely staff members. Great view of the city from here too
The Room dedicated to the war vets makes me cry with sadness every time.
Food was very good and the exhibits were very good.
I only visited the Cafe. The food was excellent and the service was great. However, each time we asked for a window table we were turned down. Oh well better luck next time.
It was nice to see all the neat artifacts from Newfoundland and some local art as well. It was very quiet; I went on Wednesday evening when they stay open late. The views were lovely too. I felt like there was a bit of cultural insensitivity in some of language used towards indigenious communities.
