REVIEWS OF Royal Alberta Museum IN Alberta

Love it. Feels new and exciting. The kids enjoy it a lot Recommend you get the mammoth pass if you plan on going more than once. Well worth it. And check out the bugs

Colby

I love the RAM. It is an absolutely beautiful building and not only stunning from the outside, but inside as well. The exhibits are extremely well done. The exhibits themselves are also incredibly impactful. The bug room is a really neat attraction. I love the museum and all the exhibits. The only downside is how expensive it is. It is quite pricy but in my opinion it is worth it.

Lindsay J.

Fantastic facility. Amazing galleries. 3 stars because of staff. It's not what you say, it's how you say it! Do better! You work at a world class institution in the capital city where tourists galore come from all places to experience only to be left on a sour note because of how you speak to your patrons? Do better!!!

Ivón Sánchez

I was welcome to the museum by a super nice gentleman who guided me and gave me a map to the museum. I entered the Vikings exposition and I was amazed by the Augmented Reality used within the exposition. I loved how well organized and planned is every hall.

Auntie L H

Beautiful building nice layout. I was expecting more in the human history hall. Definitely full of Alberta History but I thought human history would have a wider scope. The animal hall was just as amazing as I remember from the old museum.

Kelly

Beautiful museum in the heart of downtown Edmonton. there is no parking on site, but plenty within a block or two. The cafe was closed due to Covid-19 which was a shame, but understandable. Overall a really great modern museum.

Brandon Metchooyeah

Lots to see in this place. Not too bad. The gift shop was decent, and only a few things were crazy overpriced (sloth stuffed animal for 90 dollars) but the art and books and other items were decently priced. Would love the gift shop more if thry had more varieties of postcards.

Shiv

I really enjoyed this museum. It was very large, clean, and very well set up. I highly recommend for people who enjoy learning new things.

Sam Torres

I've been here twice. The exhibits are always so informative. We have brought family each time and our recent trip, our daughter who seemed to be quite intrigued by everything, even only being a year old. We look forward to future trips here!

Fred Apon

Wow !!! The new museum is spectacular. Buy an annual pass, definitely get the best bang for your $$. The bug room is fantastic, great fro kids. The displays are well laid out. A must see.

Guantanamera Pineda

Very good place for kids, especially on these days. It was very safe. The kids place was closed, and the feature one too. We really enjoyed it.

Marshall Dyck

Very clean museum, very cool that they had some live animals in some of the exhibits and full live bug exhibit. Price was decent, I would recommend. Parking was difficult to find nearby and was almost the price of the museum ticket for one adult. Great place to bring kids as under 6 yrs are free.

Monique Th

Went with the family. Exhibits were a nice balance of informative and interactive, the latter of which kept the kids occupied. When they had energy to burn they went to the children's section where there were plenty of toys for them. The feature exhibit (Vikings) was quite crowded but the permanent ones weren't. We stayed until closing and didn't get to see everything. Worth revisiting.

Shon Oman

Loved the Viking Exhibit. Staff are accommodating and friendly. If you're aboriginal then you get in free of charge. So make sure to spend some coin at the gift shop. Love this place.

Austyn Moi (Auzzie)

Really great place to take the family. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this museum. Although, the gift shop and adult admissions are quite pricey.

Helena B

The building alone is quite beautiful, spacious and bright. I love the soft features like the stairs. Inside, there are several galleries and it's hard to find the time to see them all in one visit. So we'll go back. And I shall bring my own snack (like the children) because there is nothing for an alternative diet at the Cafe! What a disappointment there. No excuses for such a lack of thought. Otherwise, it was a lovely visit. Parking is limited and it cost $12 for 2 hours.

Adetoyese Oyedun

Wonderful.experience at this museum. Alot of art exhibition to enjoy. Attended an event here and will surely be back for more..... Highly recommended.

Mike Pabian

Friendly staff, clean, and very interesting exhibits. Don't skip the gift shop, lots of amazing art and a wide range of price points. Can't say enough good things.

Lorna D

The interactive exhibits and cafe were closed unfortunately due to Covid, but the 2 large, main exhibits were open. Well laid out, clear descriptions, and organized. I feel like it has a good sense of Canadian history and the wilderness. Great displays!

Quase Gringa

This museum is huge. I had the opportunity of going to three sections: natural history, Alberta and the bug section. I highly recommend going to the museum. One of the top museums I have been on. Check the pictures out. It gives you an idea what it looks like.

Wesam Khalfalla

Amazing, kids loved it especially the bug gallery!

amberlynn nott

Lots of neat things. Good exhibits. Limited parking and a lot of inside open space. The old RAM felt a lot warmer in how they used the space.

O G

Very enjoyable and knowledgeable visit to the museum. I have been there once before but it is still interesting. The building is quite nice and the layout of the exhibits is nice. Sadly there were no featured exhibits so you don't get as much time inside as you used to be able to.

Arif K (Arif)

Very friendly staffs, kids play area is excellent. My kids had a fun time there. Few sections are not open yet. There are not a lot of collections. I personally expected more collections. There is one more section yet to be started. But my kids loved the kids sections. Must say its a great place to visit if you have kids. Parking is really expensive in downtown, so ETS is probably the best transportation for this place.

Bobby Karimi-Busheri

World class facility! Children's area is great, we could spend all day there. Exhibits are fantastic, tons of different variety, from bugs and rocks to clothes to fossils! Big sprawling facility, very welcoming, can't wait to keep coming back. So happy Edmonton has this museum. Very reasonably priced, especially the yearly pass. Nice gift shop and cafeteria as well.

Maharaj Saran

Super good place to know about Alberta and its evolution over the last 25000 years. From Edmontosaurus to Ice age, Rocky Terrains to woolly mammoth, from Grisly bear to Coyotes, from Ancient rocks to Human evolution to Volcanoes ... You will find an amazing collection and samples of Akbertan History here!! Must Visit place.

Jaime Hernandez

Went to the museum with the wife on a chilly day, it was the perfect trip for such a day. 20 dollars per adult, they offer family packages. Due to other commitments we could only stay for 2 hours. Meaning we only had time to see one exhibit. We checked out the main exhibit of Alberta. It was very in depth, lots of good articles and displays. Will definitely come back, to check out the rest of the museum

Gary Weller

Visited the museum for the first time at its new spot today and was impressed. What a beautiful new building!

Tyra Klein

First time here since the location move. It's an amazing museum with lots of great exhibits to teach yourself or your children about Alberta's History. They have a wonderful kids' area that also includes a sensory area/quiet area for the kids. Highly recommended to get the mammoth pass as it's worth it.

Tristan Lannigan

Beautiful bug and mineral exhibits, among a large assortment of historical pieces. The wildlife exhibits are incredibly well presented, especially the caribou one. Makes you feel like you're right there.

Larissa Kovalenko

Beautiful new contribution to the downtown core. Loved the bug room and the rock room. The exhibits felt a bit sparse with the feature gallery closed.

Lindsay D

Came here with my partner for a date night. We gave ourselves a couple hours but definitely should have given ourselves way more time. THERE WAS SO MUCH TO SEE. We only had a chance to explore the main floor so we will definitely have to come back but the experience was fantastic. Displays were well laid out and there was so much information displayed. I thought the flow of the exhibits was perfect. Can't wait to come back.

pyper fiske

I had a great time at the Royal Alberta Museum but I was surprised to see that they didn't have as many exhibits as expected, but there was a few that are coming soon so I'm looking forward to seeing what those are going to be like, the child play area was closed due to covid 19 as well as some other parts of the exhibits so I don't really have a opinion on those.

L19htofmyL1fe

Love this place! Spent over 2.5 hours just exploring the human history floor and still didn't get to see and read everything. Have a mammoth pass so I will definitely be back for more. Also looking forward to the exhibition rooms opening up in 2019.

Don Perron

Bought a year pass as this makes sense for the price and the fact that 3 hours didn't even come close to covering everything there. The kids area is really cool... You will have to pay attention to understand what is being taught through play here. Very clever! The cafe has good coffee and seams reasonably priced as well.

Heather McD

Excellent permenent exhibits on the upper level, we especially liked the rocks and gems, as well as the natural creatures that seamed life like. The bug exhibit was also a must see. This museum houses a absolute ton of smaller items in just a few rooms so remember to pase yourself and take your time. As adults I would budget 3 hours to see everything, there are a bunch of cool interactive options for kids so it could easily take a whole day with kids.

Christiana Dizon

The newly renovated museum has something for everyone. Spacious with a minimalistic design, there are accessible washrooms, a cafe, gift shop, and multiple exhibits. There is a children's gallery where kids of all ages can explore the hands on exhibits and play in along with other typical galleries in a museum. There is no public parking on site other than a few accessible stalls in front. However, paid public parking is available in a few locations connected by pedway. The mammoth pass is well worth the value if you plan on going more than once in a calendar year and something to consider.

Liam Knudsen

I cannot get over how great of an experience this was, during the month of may I visited the museum while staying in Edmonton. The staff here are absolutely amazing, very friendly and helpful. The exhibits are very well done and they have a wide variety of different things to see that almost everyone will enjoy. Can't wait to be back in Edmonton to visit once again!

Brett Bouthillier

Great museum. Very interesting to look at Canadian and Albertan history. Learned alot.

Annie Pixeltrik

Amazing upgrade from the old location. Even if you don't have kids, I encourage people to check out the 'kids' area. The museum is definitely a multi-trip kinda thing, so much to see and do. The Viking exhibit was really cool, there was …

Cameron Savill

First time visiting the Royal Alberta Museum. It was relatively quiet which was nice as it allowed more time to spend reading about the displays. It is definitely a history of Alberta. There are many new exhibits since moving from the old location, but many were relocated as well. While the building is nice, it feels a bit too antiseptic for my liking. I don't like that there is no parking. With all the construction downtown it made accessing parking very difficult. I feel bad for people with disabilities as there are only a few spots near the building to park, and if you come on a holiday like we did, the underground walkway from the LRT is closed.

Jennifer Thomas

RAM is a great place to visit. One visit is not sufficient if you are really interested in the exhibits. There is so much to see and learn. It's in a new location and building. This Museum is located in downtown Edmonton. The exhibits are very well planned and spaced. The information given is very informative and educational. When I visited the VIKINGS exhibits were on display. The interactive technology was a plus point as it helped me to visualize things of the past. The exhibits about the natives and their sacred beliefs ,culture and customs was very informative. The various archeological and paleontology discoveries were unbelievable. The exhibits about various gem stones etc was truly breathtaking. There were exhibits about health and medical instruments used. Kids and Adults alike would love the section for Children and an exhibit on different species of bugs too.Overall my educational trip around the Royal Alberta Museum was awesome. I would love to vist our new Museum again and would recommend it to all.

Jonathan Côté

Rich collection of human and natural history, expertly currated. All staff is super nice, from the guides offering free tours to even the security guards showing genuine interest in the exhibits. We took our time through the exhibits and decided that it would be definitely worth getting a membership as we barely scratched the surface.

Robyn Morales

It is absolutely a pleasure for ages 8+. Plan to see the exhibits when they are open. We went when things were closed but the base layer of the museum(bugs, natural history and human history) was amazing. We will be going again. Worth a mammoth pass. Aged 4 and 6 year olds lose interest abit fast but its expected with out a museum guide

Daniel Arial

Great location. Looks nice new and modern. So much wasted space that could be used for more exhibits and features items. Otherwise a really nice rebuild

Hansi

Great place with great collection for a museum. Really loved the nature section (their effort is really nice planning nature realistic wall papers display box and relatively adding animals inside them) , couldn't make it to bug gallery and children's area but plan some good time spending here especially with kids.

Kevin Grenier

I learned that camels once lived in Alberta, the location of the edmontosaurus dig in Edmonton, that rocks have a circular life cycle and what a meteor from Mars looks like. That was just a snippet of what we learned. The place is clean, items are well presented and plenty of interactive experiences to be had. Staff were very helpful and super kid friendly.

Christiana Garros

While I only had 3 hours to explore the museum, and therefore wasn't able to see everything, I was extremely pleasantly surprised with the amount of fascinating exhibits in the natural history gallery alone. I spent the entire 3 hours there and still feel like I need to go back to that gallery multiple times to fully see everything. From history of the earth's tectonic plate movement, to an impressive mineral collection, to a diverse array of fossils from Cambrian critters all the way up to the ice age (the ice age collection being the most impressive), to many beautiful taxidermied dioramas of Alberta's wildlife, I was incredibly pleased. If you are a fan of natural history and of the natural world I'd pay the museum a visit even just for this gallery. Compared to the old location, all the natural history stuff you loved from the first one is here but with so much more. Not only that, but many of the exhibits have now installed some sort of interact component, some of which are quite kid friendly, the really help illustrate concepts. This is definitely a museum worth stopping and reading the signs at, as it enriches the experience greatly. I will definitely be returning to see the rest of the museum!

Sarah Lindsay

The best part of this museum is this Cronenbergesq baby pelican that requires you to choke it with rubber balls.

Kirk Dewhurst

Aaaaaamazing!!!! Came on opening day Wow. I have been watching the whole project from beginning till now since I work a block away. They tore down the old Post Office and built this new beautiful museum. A lot of effort and thought has gone into the design on inside of this building and it’s nice to see some of the old art elements of of the Post Office incorporated into the new museum. Downtown Edmonton is being revitalized and this is a key piece. I wish my sons were younger because the children’s area is great and very interactive. A large section is devoted to the native population and their history and it is well done and tasteful. The natural history area is fantastic and incorporates the still life exhibits of the old museum. I will be coming back to the new museum many times. January 31, 2019. The bug gallery is awesome I come here every few days or weeks and see different stages of the bugs. Always something a little different. February 24, 2019. Back again with Dad and Mom they enjoyed the museum. I love coming here lots of interesting things to see and always notice something new every time I come. September 28, 2019 visited today with my wife and son and friend. Saw the Viking exhibit as it is leaving soon. Was very busy and free because it was Alberta Culture Days. I have been here many times over the last few months and as always always enjoyed it.

Michael Nedoshytko

Nice ambience. Nice open concept with 2 floors a cafe and a gift shop. No fancy restaurant like the art gallery. Park in city hall on weekends and walk across the street. It's heated and $.50 an hour

Kimberly BZ

Fantastic museum with lots to see and do. Very spacious which makes it not feel so crowded. Everything was clean and dust-free. All the employees were friendly and helpful. Only thing bad was the parking, it can get expensive if you plan to take your time and depending where you are comfortable parking. But overall wonderful experience.

Sudeesh E

It's nice but not worth the amount we pay.

MK

Great place to take kids. Lots of room for them to walk, enough room for a double stroller, well layed out, clean, easy to read explanations, great exhibit.

Foodie

Great facility! Love the new modern design to match our up and coming Ice District. The displays were very life like, and Kudos to the staff who clean all the glass ????. The Natural History section was the most interesting to me. Although all the sections were fantastically displayed. I can’t wait to see what kind of “Feature” displays the museum will bring in the future! The store was also another favourite. All the products seem to be very unique. If there is one complaint it would be the no parking lot. We fortunately got a spot across the street, but I could see this being a bigger issue for others.

JP Lacasse

The Viking exhibit was really great! A very well designed and interesting museum. A must see in Edmonton! Veterans/Military get in free too! ???????? ????????

Sonja Holowaychuk

Visited this museum for the first time today, and I like it better than the older version. The map layout is easy to understand. The architecture is modern, which is a nice contrast with the exhibits. Would like more written information about each thing they have on display, though.

Roberto E. Mou

So much content! One day is definitely not enough for the amount of material this museum has to offer ;)

Arun Joseph

Very nice quiet gem tucked away next to City Hall! Worth a visit!

MaxiPadd “Sassafraus” Ghoulhat

What can I say about this place!?.. Hmm.. How about, It was a Exciting Delight to be inside and Experience and Learn!! Waaay more Family oriented and so spacious and airy. Lots of creative touches throughout the building, and and annual price is a GREAT price!! My Kids love it ????

Brian Lee

An excellent museum and public space. The outside is unassuming, but once inside the space is modern and at the same time timeless. The exhibits are appropriate and we'll considered. I know some have made complaints about the facility for the money spent but this museum is unapologetically not Disneyland. If you want glitz and glitter, go to a carnival. If you want a tastefully executed educational experience that appropriately represents Alberta, this is worth supporting. There are some things technology cannot replace and that is seeing something live and in the present. A must go.

Destiney Kingfisher

my family really enjoyed themselves, will have to go back to see the other exhibits.

Peggy Blayone

Absolutely Loved it! Everything was so well displayed. Spacious. Very people oriented. Lots of hands on for everyone. Visually beautiful. What I really appreciated was the seating throughout - and very comfortable seating. Great hands on children's area full of learning activities. Everything was great! Spent the whole day there and will definitely return! Very reasonable pricing too,

Janice Chomitzky

The current exhibits are amazing, and we really enjoyed the quilts of the world exhibit. The serenity and ceremony in "Breathe" gives visitors an opportunity to appreciate things often taken for granted.

I used to take my toddlers to the old museum and I’ve been patiently waiting for this location to open. Finally the day is here! We loved the museum! We were there for 3 hours and that was enough, but if my feet didn’t hurt so much we could’ve kept going a little longer. We had lunch there and the pastries and soups are delicious! The coffee was of very good quality. My kids ordered hot dogs ???? of course. I was concerned that they’d be some cheap ones but they looked good and were big! The kids also got the sodas, I think they’re made in Alberta. The kids’ room is a dream come true for endless fun! The bug room was also a hit with the kids. We found a lady’s wallet and luckily she was right there and we were able to give it to her. We also found a phone and gave it to the security guard at the door of the exhibit. It was a great learning experience all around even on honesty and choosing to do what’s right. We found parking just one block east and across from the police station. $20 for the whole day. I highly recommend this place to all! We can’t wait to go back!

Habib Nawab

Really nice museum, Covid-19 has closed some of the galleries, but overall it was good experience. The exhibits are extremely well done. I like the museum and all the exhibits. There are two floors, one is dedicated to Human History and the other to Natural History, rich collection of both history. A lot of art exhibition to enjoy, highly recommended to visit atleat once, there is an entry fee but worth it.

Nicole Sorensen

Compared to the old museum, I liked the old one better I liked the layout better and I found there were more displays especially with the animals. Although this museum has a fresh new look to it but it is too spaced out with not that much to see. Overall I'm glad I went here once.

Kevin Mulroney

Modern architecture, being very clean, and having a variety of exhibits such as one about insects, human history, and natural history make this a must-see if you're visiting Edmonton or want something to do with the family. Churchill station is also connected to it with an underground hallway for easy access to the museum if taking public transit. Overall a great place to visit in the city.

T T

Great pricing. Great exhibits. My son loved it.

Janice Chau

Awesome museum! Centrally located with lots of interesting artifacts. I was disappointed that the Abandoned Alberta special exhibit was closed when I visited, as it was one of the things I had been looking forward to seeing when visiting from BC. I also thought the fossils were just models/casts but a staff member told me they're actually real... I'm skeptical, could anyone confirm or deny?? Otherwise the rock/mineral exhibit (with pieces of meteorite that hit Alberta), natural and contemporary history collections, and bug zoo were well curated. Definitely one of my favourite museum visits! I just wish there were disclaimers on what was authentic or a model...

Aaron B

Depending on the amount of time you want to spend reading the information accompanying the exhibits, you could easily clock in over four hours here. We rushed through a few pieces and still hit 3.75 hours. Lots of great information and exhibits. Worth the visit.

Shannon Gertsch

The new RAM is spacious with some new displays. The textile exhibit was poignant and the natural history gallery was well laid out showing us many of the exhibits from the old location in a new light. The children's exhibit looked like a fun play area for kids. The biggest negative about this location is the lack of parking on site. You must find parking near by. The easiest way to get here seems to be by transit so parking isn't an issue. Also, the timed tickets that you are encouraged to purchase beforehand is frustrating since it can be hard to find parking.

Pamela King

Absolutely fantastic experience!

Nathan Meters

Good Museum with some great displays and a fantastic bug exhibit. Would recommend. Also the cafe's coffee is organic and free trade. Nice employees.

Bonnie Hui

There is one floor dedicated to Human History and the other to Natural History. I liked how the first floor follows human history for the province from prehistory to the present age. There are some unique exhibits that are great for children and adults. The natural exhibits on the second floor have some discoveries from sites from around the province, from fossils to information about regional flora and fauna. The ground floor cafe is a nice place to grab a snack.

tammy loewen

A lot to see. Weirdly laid out but well thought out. Some videos were a little quiet and hard to hear. Worth the time and money.

Brian Manning

Beautiful building with outstanding natural history. The human history is mediocre at best. While the indigenous sections are interesting the story from pre-contact to present day is fragmented. The story of settlement, development …

Kat H

The museum is really great!! So much to see. Really impressive and definitely worth the price of admission.

Scarlett Chan (Schan)

Can't wait till all the kids area activities open up again but even without this place will keep your whole family entertained while educating them about different areas of history and anthropology. The gift shop has amazing things for everyone big and small too!

Terry Baker

Great fun place. So much to see and learn

Annia Motes

Beautiful, a very spacious museum, lots of history gathered in one place. The bugs gallery is a most.

Travis Taylor

Had a great morning visiting the RAM on Sunday. Very clean and well maintained. My contact with staff was minimal, aside from showing my ticket, but she was very nice. I do miss the old museum near 124th street, but it had been years since I visited, and I think I’m remembering the old space through rose coloured nostalgia glasses. My favourite exhibit was on the Indigenous groups of Alberta - very informative and beautifully displayed. Definitely worth the visit! I’d recommend going early, it seemed to be getting busier as I was leaving at around noon.

poly beltran

Very spacious and the cafe has the best hot chocolate! Of course the exhibits gave me a visual idea of how Albertans lived in the past. I will surely comeback!☺️

Delores Campbell

It's beautiful place to go Well worth it

Erich Eisenmenger

While covid has put a damper on the featured exhibits and the children's area, the natural history exhibits are fantastic. The Alberta history is good, but the exhibits miss some of the flow that the natural history has. The gift shop is also quite good, it holds quit a bit of locally produced items and art for sale. The prices are also quite reasonable. The RAM also gives free admission to currently serving military as well as anyone with a CFOne card.

Vince L

Beautiful museum located in the heart of downtown Edmonton. Lots of interesting artifacts. I would have given a 5 star rating, but the woman in front of the children's gallery entrance was a little rude.

David Hodson

We had a fantastic day at the museum with our granddaughter. Some things were still not open, post Covid-19 lockouts. Overall the museum is a wonderful experience for young and old alike. We look forward to going again. Probably when the full place is open.

Paul Mills

Clean and spacious, this truly is an incredible museum. The vast number of era's and first class objects is just stunning. I did not get to see even a quarter of the display, so I shall go back. Definitely a 5 star rating

Tanya Cahoose

Love it Here! So much to see, learn and touch :) However you eating area and tables need to be maintained. Lockers, food, drinks and Fist Nation Descendants are free! You don't need proof.

Shawn McCloskey

Great place but most of the exhibits were closed due to covid yet still charged the same entrance fees
