This museum is about the history of Canada during the WW. All the planes and historic items with briefing of canada’s part during the WW. Staff was amazing. Entry is by donation only and is recommended for $20 for the family or $10 for single. Real planes used during WW are kept there and in good shape. Kids love it.

Dayna Dickens

Nanton is such a cool little town to be home to such an incredible museum! Who could imagine there would be such an important collection of military aircraft, and such moving tributes to Canadian History here in rural Alberta? The museum's collection is managed an incredibly passionate group of volunteers, and everyone of them has a fascinating story to tell. If you can, try to make it out on a day when they are doing an engine run - hearing the deafening roar of the 4 engines running on their restored Lancaster Bomber is something you have to feel to believe. so powerful! I love this place!

Lewis Clarke

Great museum. Highly recommended.

If you're into Canadian Aviation history this is a "must see". The Lancaster engine run-up is pretty cool. 6480 total horsepower from 4 V-12 Merlin engines!

Gordon Bleam

The planes they have are great for the everyday visitor or the aviator. Plus you can see & talk with the team actively restoring one. Plus they aren't just sjow pieces but the engines start & run. Tom Cruise would be excited with the rarity & so should you

Brian Speck

We had a most enjoyable self guided tour of this awesome museum. It was unfortunate that a lot of the hands on displays were closed to the general public. All in all this is well worth the stop in southern Alberta. Thanks again to the staff and good luck with the expansion plans.

Janine M

Amazing little museum! Lots of interesting information and beautiful display!

Chris Liakos

What a great little museum with some awesome aircraft .

Mo Oishi

This museum is a great bit of World War II history...and a real testament to the dedication of volunteers. Lot's of restored aircraft, including a Lancaster bomber, with clear explanations of the significance of the artifacts. Plus, it offers some personal stories of the flyers who contributed to the war effort. I've visited the museum several times and seen them run the Merlin engines of the Lancaster. It's exhilarating and awesome to hear and feel the power of the engines. If you visit, take time to talk to a volunteer. Those involved in the restoration process often have unique insights into each aircraft.

Ted Haney

The Bomber Command Museum is a must visit when travelling through Nanton. The staff are welcoming and well informed. You can stroll through the exhibits at your own pace or go on a pre-scheduled guided tour. The highlight of this museum is their "taxi ready" Lancaster bomber - a workhouse of the Allied Command during WWII. The museum has fitted the bomber with a replica "Bouncy Betty" dam busting bomb. There is also a reasonable number of other historical propeller and jet war planes on display; in various stages of restoration. The interpretive center and information panels are all well done. A very enjoyable stop that can take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Enjoy learning about the Commonwealth Pilot Training program and Canada's military air force history.

Kitty Uhlemann

We stumbled upon this museum while touring the countryside. We spent a couple of hours there. It's a wonderful history lesson and there are many photos and artifacts from the war(s). The stories are personalized so it's interesting and informative at the same time. There are washrooms but I would bring a coffee or water to drink. Good variety of gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop.

Alchemist's Fire

Easy stop as you drive through town. Love that they have the bomb bay doors of the Lancaster open, don't see that in displayed planes very often. Didn't go into the museum, just took pics of the planes outside

Justin Daley

Very well written information. Loved getting inside the belly of the Lancaster bomber. Those guys must have had nerves of steel.

Murray Strome

This Museum has the most amazing collection of artifacts related to the aircraft used by the RCAF in wars, especially the Halifax and Lancaster bombers used in WW II. The curator is so knowledgeable and passionate about preserving the important history and sacrifice of the Canadian airmen. Every Canadian who visits southern Alberta should try to take a few hours to see the exhibits here.

Tim Crisall

Well worth the stop. The display of airplanes is of course fantastic and the Lancaster IS the star... Be sure to poke around in the back room where you'll find a bunch of early airplane engines mounted on engine stands and available for a close look. I stop to poke around every time I drive thru Nanton.

Very well organized museum. To be able to get in the Lancaster was amazing. My Grandad, spoke proudly of working on this type of plane as a mechanic during WWII. Fascinating place. So many displays, photos, airplanes, pictures, you could spend hours in here and not see it all. It is often difficult to read the stories, but such an important historical site. The Remembrance Day ceremony is so moving to watch, as are the start-ups for the big engines on the planes. We were even gifted a jacket from their shop, our little son loves it!

Relic Origins

It's a museum do we ever not want to learn of where it all started. I went on a pretty spectacular day they managed to get the big bomber on the display running all for engines sounded beautiful They had a 1940s night I didn't know but was still perfectly dressed for the era. I would of like to take part more but didn't really know anyone. I hope they do this again next year. It was really fun. Really wanted to sit in the bomber or at least walk around and sit in the cargo bay. History fascinates me a lot.

Typical Alberta Aviation museum. It's got the planes that you can sit in and some explanation about the exploits of some of our famous pilots from Alberta. Worth a visit if you have the time

Jody Moreau

If you love history about WWII and airplanes, I think this is a must. I can spend hours in there looking at everything and reading all the little stories. There have been some very dedicated personal to get it where it is and where they want to keep expanding and restoring. I have been blessed with seeing the Lancaster be started up twice, once on a day time engine start and just recently a night time engine start up. Enjoy when you go.

Gene Lung

Great place. Rode motorcycle to bikes and bombers event, so normal business may be different than my experience. For a small town this place is unbelievable; volunteers keep the place going and the engines going. If you are in Nanton I think it is a must visit. Thank you for all that have served and for all the folks that keep this place going.

Self guided tour of some really good history of Alberta. Nothing open to touch nor the gift shop during COVID-19 restrictions. Took my 4 year old son for his birthday, and he lost interest after 25mins. Allow yourself at least an hour if you would like to read a lot of the displays and take pictures.

I go in here several times a year with the family. A truly great museum of Canadian air history.

Ken Kuo

For a small museum, the content and authenticity is world class. I have to confess that I've driven by a few times and never visited. It turns out I have been missing a gem. If you are a fan of history or WWII, or just want to learn the sacrifice of Bomber Command and RCAF, this is definitely worth a visit. Having been to a few WWII museums in Europe and in Normandy, this one is up there. The entrance fee is by donation (suggestion is $10/adult or $20/family). Not going to lie, for a cultural attraction, I would rank this ahead of any other in Calgary or Southern Alberta. A must visit!

Maxwell Hammer

Very interesting experience. Lots of info to absorb and many great old planes.

Maxwell Hammer

Ron Smith

This is a must see Grantkids were enthralled.

Kenzie Gibb

The website says $2 per person. But it is actually pay by donation... the *suggested* donation rate is $10 per adult or $20 for a family. The center piece of the museum is a huge bomber plane that you can go inside..... if you pay additionally. Pretty fun but pricing was confusing and felt a little "guilt-trippy". Very cool. Most weekends through the summer they roll out the bomber and fire up all engines it's just amazing a site. Very interesting stories and personal items on display with many interesting factoids spread about there. It's like walking through a textbook, it's a very interesting experience the way it's set up it's as though Miss Frizzle herself was taking you through the pages of a textbook in Magic School Bus

The guides were very knowledgeable in the subject area. The displays were very well done. Great pictures and artifacts and stories written in the displays. Wonderful opportunities to actually walk into a bomber plane to experience what it must have been like. Apparently they start up the engines several times a year. There is another Lancaster bomber in Hamilton that actually is airworthy and flies.

Dustin Broatch

Great place to learn

Richard Ferris

amanpreet gill

One of a kind museum in alberta. Must visit.

Vince Judge

A real Lancaster. Kitted out as a "Dambuster". Out on the tarmac in front of the museum, and all 4 engines sparked up. A deep rumbling growl you can feel, not just hear. Late evening, the "exhaust flames" are clearly visible. A simply stellar and humbling experience. There is a large memorial, remembering the thousands that gave all. And that is before you even step into a world class aviation museum dedicated to those who served with Bomber Command, and the many that supported them. The aircraft, the stories, seeing restoration as it happens (the is a Mosquito in the works!) A solid and respectful commemorative, telling of the reality of war, not glorifying. Satisfying, humbling, impressive, and just "plane" wow!

Gerald Beatch

Such an incredible museum! A real jewel.

Janet Scott

Not enough time to see it all. Will be back

Keith Christie

Excellent museum, I definitely recommend a visit.

Christopher Cathcart

I really learned a lot and really enjoyed being in the aircraft. Sitting in the plane my grandfather flew in WWII was incredible. The only thing I thought could be improved is the VR experience. Found it glitchy.

Brian Offet

Awesome, very relaxing trip through a horrific time, every man woman and child would benefit from a day at Bomber Command....we should fund them as most are volunteers but besides it's ours and it's our history.

Excellent museum dedicated to Canada's bomber boys. Special events like the Lancaster bomber engine runs should be experienced by all and really puts into perspective the danger our airmen exposed themselves to for our freedom. Privately funded so make sure to visit and donate.

Wonderful stop

Bert Savoie

Great building, info, and knowledgeable staff. The place is huge. On Sat, there is a group of guys rebuilding a 'Mosquito '...and they love to answer questions!

John D

Just awesome to see these WW II aircraft items close up. Worth driving out of your way to see. The stories as part of the museum are inspiring.

Rob S

Too many of the younger generations don't have a connection to what our veterans had to go through. This museum keeps a connection alive. It is quite a good museum and if you get a chance, it is worth visiting. The entrance fee is by donation. We missed the engine run that they do several times during the summer (it was to be the next day when we were there). Disappointing because it would have been a great thing to see and hear those big Merlin engines start up. I will be travelling again with another friend and may be able to drop by again for a second visit in September.

A few planes you can sit in for a photo op, large bombers, small planes, and all kinds of other stuff.

Scott Irvine

WWII air history is really important to my family, and this museum is absolutely incredible. The displays are very well put together, the aircraft are great, and the book shop is well worth the visit. I highly recommend the book 'No Prouder Place'. Don't forget to check out the side rooms, especially with the Merlin engine, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Susan Molstad

It is an awesome Museum in Nanton and well worth the drive. A nice day trip from Calgary. They have restored most of the planes , and knowledgeable people.

jonmejoy

That huge bomber with functional engines might be one of the biggest draws here. For me it was a moment of reality like no other, to experience some incredible yet mute testimonies to the chaos, human loss and sacrifice that World War II claimed of humanity. The radio equipment, mathematical calculations, log books and carefully salvaged aircraft engines, all had a story to tell. For those of us interested in the times and the millitary aviation history of World War II, I would plan to spend some time to take in the amazing work of preservation by the volunteers there

Jack MacKay

Very cool place with awesome planes

Miss Tazz

Knowledgeable, very kind people who work & volunteer here !! :) I would highly recommend!

Valerie Kjarsgaard

Love this place. Have been going there on and off for 10 years.

Lance Trumpet

Bomber Command was an excellent experience, there is a small donation to enter in much like any historical site, but it is rich in historical content, and the staff are rather knowledgeable of the contents thereof, there are actual planes on the Tarmac, and there are family deals, go on and learn some Canadian History

Rohit Bansal

Beautiful recreation of history The planes are magnificent It was a good experience

Decided to take a short afternoon drive from Calgary to explore what the museum had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised at what was compiled for exhibit by the wonderful volunteers. The displays were a mixture of static and interactive that helped you appreciate the harsh reality of the European wars. Plan to spend 2-3 hours to go through the exhibits.

If you're at all interested in WW II Canadian Air Force history this is a place you shouldn't miss. I've visited here numerous times. From the monument in front of the building listing the names of 10000 Canadians of the RCAF that never made it home to the displays and planes inside it is well worth the visit.

Very interesting, well laid out. Lots if staff & volunteers to answer questions or share stories.

Leslie Bowden

Yesterday- Made the short trip to the Bomber Command Museum of Canada in Nanton AB. I was favorably impressed. The Lancaster Bomber is as impressive as ever. They are trying to obtain a Halifax Bomber (build from parts) which would take an already impressive museum to the next level. If one has never been to the National Airforce Museum in Trenton Ont. (which has the magnificent Halifax Bomber - been there and bought the Tee Shirt as well....lol), this is one of the finest Air museums around. It is mostly dedicated to the heroic and magnificent efforts around the bombing campaigns in WW2, but has many other artifacts from our beginnings as a Canadian Airforce as well. Many very famous Albertans did their parts in the creation of our Airforce (RCAF), and in WW2. Oh Yeah.....Bought the Tee Shirt as well....lol
