You will see all the opinions of real people who consumed the services and products of Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site (Museum) in Alberta territory (Canada).
Currently the firm has a score of 4.4 stars out of 5 and the rating has been based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that it has an average rating is quite positive, and it is based on a very high number of opinions, so we can be quite sure that the valuation is very accurate. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are pleased with the service, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to put opinions when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Museum is included in the category of Historical place museum.
Amazing piece of history!
Fun and informative. Good family outing.
Do to the price we decided not to go on the tour. Looks very interesting though.
Took the Tunnel and Train tours and had a great time. Our guide on the tunnel tour Amelia was knowledgeable and funny and the guide/motorman on the train tour was the same. I'll definitely be recommending it to friends who visit Drumheller
Pretty old mine. Worth it actually btw.
Nice place to visit if you go to Drumheller.
Alright. I guess it wasn't my thing but it was quite the drive for seeing a bit of history that was a bit irrelevant. It's very expensive, and all the tours cost money. Check out the age restriction on specific tours as you can't take young ones on all tours. This would be a higher star rating if there was more for little ones.
Great
Absolutely loved the experience! Entire family had a great time. Not something you get to see every day! Staff were helpful and very friendly. Took the tour of the actual mine and it was incredible! Highly recommend!
Don’t waste your money !!
Had a awesome time
Well worth a visit!
Very interesting museum great info and interactive displays and tours
Nice historic place
I took the underground hike up the shaft and loved every moment of it. Perhaps not best if your clostraphobic, if you are you can go on a team ride around the mine. Everything was so much fun.
Good tour of the tipple and out buildings.
Highly recommend the tour. Great views
This a great outdoor museum. A wonderful place to take the whole family.
Was closed, but really cool. Lots of no-see-ums
Impressive historic place with original buildings to explore - lots of interesting information!
Great place to visit.
Staff are very friendly and informative! Excellent museum and interesting tours!
Very informative. The weather was hot and clear when we were there. Great experience.
Unfortunately I made it in the off season but from what I saw its incredibly well maintained. Excited to have the real experience in the summer!
Awesome museum, highly recommend
With the recently updated panels, lots of historical artifacts, and helpful staff, I thought this was a bit of a gem hidden amongst the other prevalent local attractions. I wish we could have gone into the mine (thanks, Covid) but there was still plenty to see and learn on our self-guided tour. Great historical site!
The mine was collapsed, so we only able to get a few feet. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour worth while.
The Atlas Coal Mine is an amazing time machine allowing one to step back in time to a period where much of our energy needs were met by coal. Knowledgeable guides take you on a historical journey where you come to learn what life was like for the workers who toiled in these mines. Much of the original mining equipment is on display and there are a variety of guided tours available. We enjoyed the 'train' ride and the tour of the Tipple. Expect to spend at least 2 to 4 hours here as there is much to see. Well maintained washrooms are available and there is plenty of free parking. This is a highly recommended must-see attraction. Kudos to the staff who helped us travel back in time!
We didn't have choice to visit since we can't use cash to purchase the tickets, and has to buy tickets online, but the internet service is too weak, and it took us a lot of time and we still unsuccessfully to have tickets. So we have up sadly...
An absolute gem of a tourist spot in the Alberta Badlands. Well preserved and maintained with excellent information on Alberta coal mining history. We met Bob who used to work in the mines; he helps run the place and is a great source of knowledge! If you run into him, ask him all about the place and he'd be happy to tell you ???? we missed out on the guided tour by a week but I've heard from friends that they're excellent. Definitely worth a visit of you're in the vicinity.
Very pretty place for photography.
If you are interested in knowing about the history of coal in Alberta, this national monument provides you lots of info about that. Tour guides are knowledgeable about history as well the story of people who worked there.
Went and checked out the train ride, it was the only real option with a young child. The train is a little loud and a little rough, but the kids enjoyed the ride.
Great fun, didn't get to do mine tour kids to young 6 and up to do tipple tour. Second time to this mine
It was good and learned alot
Worth it 2 go on tunnel tour and see the tipple
Worth the drive out there :)
(Translated) Ideal for entertaining children, little train to visit .... (Original) Idéal pour distraire les enfants, petit train pour visiter....
It's creepy and fascinating!
So much fun and interesting to learn about!
Great experience and with checking out.
Train tour totally not worth it.
Very fun professional experience.
Very interesting historical attraction. We met up with a terrific tour guide who patiently answered all our questions.
Great tour with a lot of history.
This is a very interesting, although kind of depressing museum. It's well maintained and has a great collection of artifacts. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The hours should be noted that this site is closed in winter. Very disappointed when i arrived and i was only able to see it from the parking lot
A fun and interesting experience for families with kids off all ages and adults alike. Older kids and adults can visit the mine and take the non-PG tour, while kids can enjoy a train ride and kid friendly tour outside the mine. Really interesting, very reasonable price, and an valuable piece of Canadian history. If you're in the area this is one place you should not miss.
It was so nice to see the equipment they used before to work in the mine
Going again when then are open and go on guided tours.
Probably my favourite attraction I've been too. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and a lot of fun showing us how miners lived. Basically this region was the Fort McMurray of our early century. After this check out the East Coulee School museum to see how the family of miners lived. It is pretty humbling compared to how we live and take things for granted today and yet this was the boom town of the country at the time.
Visited here to kill some time during our stay. We ended up staying for quite a few hours. Kids had fun on the train ride. Would have liked to do the mine tour with the kids but the minimum age is 6.
Too expensive for a historic site.
What a fun experience! We went on the underground tour and it was a blast. I definitely recommend bringing a bottle of water and some good foot wear for a bunch of stairs! The guides are always so fun and knowledgeable. I always make sure to stop here anytime I am in drumheller. They have 3 different tour options or you can just pay an admission fee and tour some parts of the land yourself!
Must visit in Drumheller.
last standing tipple in Canada. we didn't have enough money at the time to take the tours but would definitely go back to take them when we do!
We just here about 45 minutes before closing. We paid to walk around and really enjoyed it! I think taking the tours would be really good! But it is probably a good idea to book the tours in advance. The last tour was filled when we got there.
Nice place. Advance booking required due to pandemic.
(Translated) Interesting mining experience. (Original) Érdekes bányászati élmény.
A cool historic site
Expected more.
Really interesting place
I was disappointed by this Coal Mine Museum. I chose the 'discover-the-mine-yourself-tour' for $10 and wasn't able to see more than a outside of the mine and a few building such as the washroom (for the mine workers) from the inside. I understand that the tunnel is to dangerous to be visited on your own but I wish I had been told while buying my ticket how limited the access with this basic ticket is. Furthermore, the number of information boards are limited. When a guided tour walked by, I could hear a small part of the tour and it seems that it was well done.
(Translated) To have. (Original) A voir.
Expensive, but the guide was good and it was a unique experience. Very well preserved site. Not ideal for kids.
Nice drive
Very friendly :)
Nice Nice visited this park
Loved it! History at your fingertips. Tours of the site offer 4 different ways to experience all it has to offer. Kids loved the interactive nature and wanted to return only 4 days later. This is a really nice place to visit
Over price
Very interesting and lots of details even if you opt out of the tours.
A very interesting and informative tour. The guides were knowledgeable and very friendly. General admission includes the train ride and access to the various buildings. For an additional fee, you can experience the tunnel tour.... It starts at the Wash house where the miners' day began and ended, to the lamp room, then up the walkway to the tunnel where the conveyer belt moved the coal to the tipple, then over to the blacksmith's, then the mine itself which was only 40 feet restored, then back down the "miner's march". If you're afraid of the dark and enclosed spaces, you might want to reconsider. Wear proper footwear.
Was a blast from our past
Waste of time and money. Do something else! Really? A woman with a California valley girl accent describing an Alberta coal mine? $40 family ride in an ore care for a few hunderd yards and then back on the same track? Site has potential , but the management and staff are blowing it. Tyrell 10 plus. This place minus 5.
It was closed when I went, but you can drive by and see the external mine and the machinery outside, and it is all very cool and worthwhile to check out!
A treasure in the prairies. Great staff, lovingly restored and upkept buildings. Please visit when you come out to Drumheller.
(Translated) It was the first mine in Drum Haller's past. Now it's a museum ... (Original) 드럼핼러의 과거 제일의 광산이었고 이제는 박물관이 된곳...
Great site!
The full package is totally worth it. My kids really enjoyed themselves. Our tour guide was awesome and interacted well with the kids.
This place is cool! I thought it would be boring but it's got a lot of history in it. I recommend the option where you can go up into the building. The train is too short and quite hard as it's all metal on metal tracks without suspension, and the mine tour doesn't go very far at all. The building you get to climb it tho and the tour guide is knowledgeable.
Very fun train ride and great staff.
Great authentic feeling Museum. It was a little sad to see how ruff kids were being on some of the unprotected items.
Had a blast doing the underground tour and our guide (she was studying kinesiology) was great and funny. The trail is a but steep but fun. Only rolled my ankle AFTER the hike on flat ground. 100% would do again.
(Translated) A tour after the mine. Although the course is divided into several courses, the guide is of course in English, so if you have some level of English, you will understand the history of the mine. In every country, in the past, workers, especially children, were treated badly. We had a tour along the conveyor belt, but at the end we got on a truck and it was fun. But the minecart was hot because there was no sunshade.
Excellent. Great historic coal mine tours lots to see.
Took my grandsons here today & was so disappointed, zero tours due to Covid including the train that takes you inside the mine. Paid $30 just to walk around the site & read a few plaques. Don't waste your money, wait until the tours start again.
Neat place, but the prices are very high. The mine tour is a little misleading. You don't really go into the mine at all. It's just the entrance to the mine and it only goes in about 50ft or so. Interesting history though, so a fun stop if you have the extra cash.
We had a great time on the train ride and really appreciated how much Stewart enjoyed his job! Very neat little history area to explore.
My daughter and I visited here during their Christmas in the Coulee event. It was so much fun! A train ride, decorations, an old fashioned Kris Kringle, cookies and eggnog, and carols made for a wonderful visit!
The family loved it, well worth it to visit
Go back in time. A must to visit. We truey enjoyed this tour.
Great history, great guide, was an awesome experience.
Please do not waste your time or money right now on this site there is nothing to see that warrants paying the admission price. Everything that you see from the parking lot is exactly what you get. We payed admission to walk a path. No access to mine or even any of the houses onsite. I’m sure it will be great once they open back up. If you are a family please take your kids for ice cream and don’t waste your money or time here. FYI. Young lady working was great and very understanding
Coal-tastic!
This day trip was absolutely unbelievable. I went about two weeks ago and I still can't stop thinking about it. I can't wait to go back and do it again. I did the all day pass which gives you all 3 tours plus the train ride. It was worth every minute. The staff were incredible(Amelia in particular!!), I wish she did all of our tours in our schedule- she was so animated in telling us the history of the Coal mine and stories. They really bring the history to life and throw you in to imagine the lives of the coal miners. A MUST SEE!!
Beautiful history
Cool historic place, Mine tour is pretty neat!
No pets allowed Not for us n looks rather boring
What a place! As a homeschooling family we seek out these types of places,& this spot is filled with so much history, it's got info all around to explain the buildings, as well as tours that will keep you grasping for the next part! Prices are great, and it all goes back to this historical place! It's one of those places that we will enjoy going back to again & again!
Very cool historic site
Very neat ! Went on all the tours enjoyed the walked through the mine the most and the "unmentionables" tour
This was a great way to see the history of coal mining in Drumheller. Coming from a coal mining town in Cape Breton it is nice to see how things were done differently in other parts of Canada
Very cool place
My family took the train tour. While it was cool to experience I honestly expected it to be more interesting with more to see. It's like a. 5km one way then back to the other side. Total of 1km ride if that. You don't really get out of the box to explore I just expected something more. Stories were cool tho.
The Atlas Coal Mine is an amazing historical site. You can go on a self-guided tour, but I recommend going with a guided tour. The staff are amazing and their stories enhance the experience.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Atlas Coal Mine! We opted to pay for the all day family pass which was $99 with tax. This allowed us all the tours. We recommend doing all of them. The "Unmentionables" tour was my favorite... And it is totally okay for kids to go to as they are discreet about some of the unmentionable things. :) Highly recommend!
(Translated) The Underground Experience is very disappointing as the mine itself is only 15m long ... (Original) Le Underground Expérience est très décevant car la mine elle-même ne fait que 15 m de long...
Muy family has a great time there. Lots of history and friendly staff. Well worth the time.
Deep historical value and fun times.
Interesting place!
Really interesting and well done! We were able to get into a train ride tour and found it interesting and fun. We'll be back for the underground tour!
Really interesting historic site. Very well preserved. Tours are great and informative; full of information about how the mine worked and about the individuals who worked there. The new Mine Tour was really great. They take you up through the conveyor shaft and up through to the original mine opening. Must wear closed toed shoes and be prepared for a bit of a workout as some parts are a little steep. I wouldn't recommend for anyone with lung issues.
Great time can't wait for the mine to be open
Guide was great. She had so much knowledge to share. We did the tunnels tour.
The Atlas Coal Mine is a very neat historical site. We wanted to do a tour, but unfortunately they only run every few hours, and we got there right after a tour group had left. It's nice to wander around and look around in a few of the old buildings on the site. One downside is that signage is sometimes an issue. We wandered through an open gate down a pair of (we assumed) unused train tracks and one of the interpreters was quite rude when asking us to come off of them. Definitely check this place out, but be careful where you walk!
Unfortunately, it was closed.
Such a part of history..
General admission area has lots to see and interesting info and anecdotes on interpretive panels. We took the underground tour. You don’t get very far underground but the guide knows and loves her subject - it comes alive and is so fascinating.
If you visit Drumheller this is another addition to the trip. Recommended booking online tickets in advance.
Loved it, lots of information.
(Translated) Superb place where you can visit the coal mine. (Original) Superbe endroit où on peux visiter la mine de charbon.
Interesting experience for sure but a little campy. Staff's knowledge was very good and they were super friendly. Only problem I had was with the tour schedule. It's set up so at times you can't help but miss the next tour you were interested in. This is fine once while you are waiting the first time but it's easy to run out of things to do while waiting as most of the interesting locations are part of a tour and not just open to the public, which frankly makes a lot of safety sense. If you are a true history buff and into tours of things years gone by you will enjoy yourself. Try to get there early to schedule your day efficiently and don't be afraid to ask the staff questions; be amazed how much they know!
This very cool old mine has tours of the tunnels, the tipple, and the small gauge railway that used to haul coal around the property. The guides have all the old stories. Give yourself plenty of time. There's a lot to see.
Interesting artifacts to view on your own but underground tour was underwhelming. Just a 50 foot excavated section of entry tunnel. Maybe the Tipple tour is more interesting.
Very walk friendly! Bring closed toed shoes
Recommended, especially if you like Alberta history or history in general. Good for all ages - do your kids like trains? This might be fun for them...take the train ride. Fairly accessible, but if you have trouble climbing stairs you might not be able to do some of the tours. The site is not free to access, but the rates are reasonable. We did the Tipple Tour, and it was interesting.
great tour with lots of interesting facts. the tour guide was enrolled in an acting class as well so he brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the tour. it made the whole experience even better.
Most amazing tour! The train ride was nothing like the other review. Ours was very funny and we learned a lot about the history of the entire coal mine. I had the best time here, tours guides were hilarious and informative. We were in the area for 1 week and it was by far the best and most memorable part of the trip. A must go to if in the area, and do every part of the tour if you have the time. Can't wait to go back and very highly recommended. Inexpensive too for the experience that you get out of it with some unreal picture opportunities.
Inside is close, because corona...
It was great figuring out how the mining equipment functioned.
Great piece of Alberta's history. Worth the afternoon.
Loved the history, lots to look at & read. Our kids were too young to do the mine tour but still fun. The train cart ride probably wouldn't be good for anyone with neck or back problems as the carts slams together when they get going a bit.
They offer 4 kinds of tour. Two of the are good for 0+ and up, the othet one starts from 6 and up. The last one is only for grown ups. Place is nice and staffs are super friendly.
I learned a lot about the history of coal mining in Alberta. Very interesting comparison for this guy from a coal mining area in western Germany.
Staff were very knowledgeable and the tours were very entertaining and informative.
Definitely do a tour, not jut the basic entry. You get to see much more and hear a lot more information. The tour guide was fun and interactive. This is my second time here. I quite enjoy seeing how well all this history has been preserved.
Very Interested & informative for coal
Very informative, knowledgeable guides
Amazing place!
Great visit although a bit pricey although worth the cost to travel into an actual coal mine.
Excellent tour guides and cool history.
Beautiful
Ok experience.
Great tours and informative. My family took the Miners tour and the train tour, and they were both informative and a good look back at what happened in the mines in years gone by. The Miners tour was really informative and quite a bit of a hike, eye opening to see the plights that these men had to endure as they tried to provide for their families. The train tour was interesting, but lacked the volume of information that the other tour had. However it was still entertaining. If you get the chance, take in all the tours as we regretted not taking it all in. Great staff and very nice place.
Tours are definitely worth it. Staff were all very friendly and engaging. Very glad we stopped.
Very friendly staff. Relaxing. We went on off season. But we were able to walk on road way beside mine.
A bit pricy but great tours!
It's always nice to see history, reading up on it. Unfortunately due to Covid, guided tours are not available at this time, but still a lot to see
Excellent and fun! Tour guide was very funny and made it a very enjoyable tour! I would definitely go back again.
What an amazing experience
A really fun place to visit, with a lot of respect paid to the history of coal mining in the region. The staff really make the specialty tours extraordinary.
We visited the atlas coal mine and the east coulee school for their Christmas lights display, music, crafts and horse and wagon ride. Beautiful light decorations and wonderful hosts. Well worth the trip!. Only 2 more nights left: December 6th and 7th. Get out and enjoy it.
Did a tour and absolutly loved it, great staff and very safe environment
Cool place to check out!!
Nice views good for kids.
Awesome, informative but too costly.we wanted to go on the train and ended up on the tipple ..wasnt impressed with that but our guide n people working there were very pleasant.except the girl who put us on tipple instead of train
One of the few places in the world you can see inside inside a coal mine tipple build in 1937. The employees have extensive knowledge on the running of this coal mine.
Second time there with the family and we had a blast.
Excellent and fun!
Tell the story of coal mining and what we value most as Canadians came out of the union contracts and the political leadership of the Drumheller valley. Enjoy your health care, 40 hour work week and collective bargaining. Thank a coal miner.
It was Winter and hard to see but I imagine when there's no snow would have been very beautiful
Always expanding.
More bathrooms would be nice but an over all great experience!
Great museum.
It is part of Canada history
This place was alot of fun! Got to go into a coal mine and hear cheeky tales of old timey hookers. Great place to spend the day, the staff were knowledgeable and fun. I'd say its a perfect pairing with the royal Tyrell and other historical sites in tue drumheller area a must stop for sure
Really fun to learn about southern Alberta mining history. Our whole family loved it even our 5 year old who marched up the tipple.
Good way to spend the day and learn a little!
Was a nice place with lots of history
We took both sets of grandkids there and they really enjoyed the train ride. We hope to bring them all back again to do one of the other tours.
Be prepared to do a fair bit if walking and to do all the tours it takes about 3-4 hours
Pretty interesting for me but the wife and kids were pretty board lol.
Nice place
This is a great historical site. They offer several different tours and so much information on site. For sure worth taking in if you are in town.
Admission is a bit pricey if you ask me but it's a must-see for history Buffs.
We set aside 2 hrs to visit the Atlas Coal Mine but should have made it 4 hrs. This place is absolutely amazing and the tour guides are second to none. I'll be going back.
The fun tours were quite pricey and not friendly to those with walking problems. If you like mines or the frontier check it out but I wouldn't say it's a must see.
We took the train ride. Absolutely a fun experience.
I needed to spend more time here. Fascinated by the variety of machines used in mining coal.
Pretty interesting place. Unfortunately, I could not take the mine tour.
Really unique experience that immerses you in history to make it memorable.
We had a great guide that really elevated the experience. The mine has a great history. I will admit that the actual mine itself was a very small space.
Very cool!
Nice experience! really educated.
(Translated) Go on a tour (Original) Сходить в экскурсию
Cool to see!
It's like a place u feel so different and it takes u 100 years back like a time machine. I was mesmerized the whole time and enjoyed a lot. Even though u can have tour guide inside the mountains where they used to do the mining.
A must see in the Drumheller area. Nice little store and front area for non paying visitors, plus multiple different paid tours. Walk around the site at ground level, tour the old offices and buildings, ride a coal mine train, try out some old equipment that's on display. Highly recommend taking the tour of the mine itself and the coal processing structure. We learned a lot of incredibly interesting history of the Drumheller valley. All staff were friendly, knowledgeable and happy.
Free parking on site. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Did two of the tours, Train ride and the Tipple Tour. Staff were very informative. The two tours were back to back but easy enough to go from one to the other. Would definitely go again if ever back in Alberta to do the other tour. Wear decent walking footwear for the walking tours. Had a great time.
Great spot
Learn about history. Don't prefer train tour
Don’t bother! Called 40 minutes ahead of time to ask if it would be possible to join the last tunnel tour of the day. The staff person said it was totally fine, there were still spots left and the tour started exactly at the posted time. Drove 25 mins out of our way from Drumheller and when we arrived at the visitors centre 10 minutes before the tour started the SAME staff member I spoke to on the phone said the tour had already left and we couldn’t join. Very unimpressed. Paid $10 for general admission and was very underwhelmed. Areas were interesting but are not well signed and general admission grants access to only to two small areas.
Fast and fresh. Nice to sit outside
The wild west and the coal mine days. Takes you to those years. Nice getaway for the family.
Neat place, plan to have lots of time to do it all
The History behind mining in this valley is incredible. well ran and organized staff.
Meh. It is an old old coal mine filled with a bunch of rust buckets. To go on any kind of walk here is ridiculously expensive. General admission gets you a birdseye view of a bunch of rusted old vehicles. That will take you maybe 10 min to do the walk and you will be bored after 5. It is semi sort of interesting to see the old coal mine.
A very nice glimpse into the past of our coal mining history. Friendly staff and an interesting tour.
Very...Basic But I Made Video On This
Worth a visit, exceeded my expectations. Provides valuable insight into the historical mining industry. The staff were well informed and quite helpful. Amelia did a great job as our guide the train tour, she knew her stuff and made it interesting and fun for the kids too.
Interesting slice of Alberta's coal mining past. Friendly tour guides sharing stories originally told by the miners themselves. Make sure to plan for a couple hours if you want to take more than one tour (there's buildings to explore on your own too). Beautiful views down the valley if you take the Tunnel Tour up to the top of the hill. Small gift store onsite but no concession onsite, bring a picnic lunch.
Great guides and lots of things to look at. Would definitely recommend doing all the tours and making a day of it. My family enjoyed it.
Very interesting view of coal mining history in the vvalley.
Such a neat place to visit! Didn't realize this was a part of drumheller's history! Definitely planning another trip back to do the tours!
Incredible! One of the hidden gems of drumheller! Our train guide was very friendly, informative, and made it a great experience! Very budget friendly, and so worth it!
Great historical place to visit with family and friends.
I had young kids with me so I couldn't go on the walking tours which is understandable, but for me a point of great sadness. It was really too bad because there are so few places left that have truly preserved history this way. They have folks who worked around mines who are able to keep some of these tunnels safe and operational the way they had historically been maintained so people can go in it was phenomenal. The train was amazing for the kids. All of the outbuildings were left as it had been when it was shut down. The amount of information that was in there was almost unbelievable. Keep your expectations reasonable as it is not significantly manicured. It in many ways was better than any Museum I've been to. Don't miss this place.
This place was really cool. Not too busy and the guides for the tours we did we're great! Would definitely suggest this. We killed a couple hours here doing the train ride and tipple tour.
Excellent tour. Was doublly good in comparrison to the Bellevue Mine Tour we did last year. last chance to see Canada's last standing coal tipple.
There was a lot of history packed in. We did the self guided walking tour. We had wanted to go on a guided train tour but it was already sold out by the time we arrived. It was a fun time.
An abandoned mine with endless artifacts from the time and people long gone. Worth seeing. We can reflect on our lives and struggles. Which are not that bad comparing to them.
A great place to learn the history of coal mine
very interesting stories that the coal miners had to go through to make their life in the new world! plus the booze that was shipped there
Great location to visit. Currently the mine visits are closed but still worth visiting. ????✔️????✔️
It was great learning a bit of Alberta's history and how a old school coal mining worked in the badlands. I need to go back and take more of the tours.
Very informative and interesting tour guides
Not as much content as I would have liked.
This is a fun place to visit. You get to go up into an old tipple and the opening of an old coal mine too. There is a lot of climbing on the tours so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. The staff are very good.
Nice people
Very interesting place
Lots to explore, great history and knowledgeable friendly staff. Could be spruced up a bit though.
Informative
Our minecart detached and the young lady leading our tour group lead the carts back to us, she radioed her supervisor asking what to do and she was told to wait there with us. She told us a few interesting stories about the history of the mine and answered our questions and honestly kept us entertained, it wasn't such a big deal until her coworker came over and reprimanded her in front of everyone she was extremely rude to our tour guide, felt bad for her she was just doing as she was told. We were having a really good time, it's a beautiful place with a lot of history but I don't agree with how that staff member was treated
Awesome historical place
Went for the Tunnel Tour and had a fantastic time and the group leader was very informative and was having fun along with us despite how many times she does it in a day ! Thanks
An awesome historic park, so interesting, even for kids! The tours are well worth the cost!
Nice tour
Very informative. I wish I had more time.
Totally fascinating, well-run, historical site. Informative and well-spoken tour guides and the immersive experience in the Tipple and mine tour make for a totally fascinating and fun experience. A couple of notes. Do NOT show up in open-towed shoes (you wil be turned away). I saw an act of generosity where a young girl was about to be turned away when a complete stranger lent her a pair of shoes for the tour. Also, there are some steep grades / stairs and so if you have knee trouble, please take that into consideration. Well worth the price and highly recommended.
I went here with my cousis it is great
Amazing history! Definitely recommend the tours. Very knowledgeable guide and really digs into the history. It was 35 degrees today so bring lots of water!
Excellent tours, entertaining staff, authentic experience all together. I (Really) dig that our tour guide did a land acknowledgement, I thought that was really responsible, especially given what's come about as result of ground penetrating radar on some of these residential schools sites, here in BC and AB. I will say, though, when walking through the tipple, there was a transparent floor board that was replacing some that had fallen long ago. This thing cracked and creaked when I stepped on it and really feared for my life lol.
Train ride is enjoyable bumpy and jolting. Great guides and hospitality
Very expensive
Great
The mail is under construction. It is very inconvenient and some of stores have been closed. Parking at Best Buy or Walmart is ok.
The place is amazing, well preserved and maintained. We did the processor/tipple tour and it was incredible. Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly and gave us a lot of additional info well beyond what was required of the tour. It was great that we also had a small group (only 6 of us). The maximum capacity for the tour is 25 at a time and it takes about an hour depending on how much you engage with your tour guide. This is one of my favorite sites to visit on the Drumheller area and I never tire of it.
AMAZING staff. Very interesting
Pretty cool place go check it out
Fun mine tour and train/mine cart tour, coolstuff to learn about.
Really cool and interesting but not really worth it during covid because you can't do most of the activities
Staff was really helpful + friendly and seemed to like what they do.
Had a wonderful guided tour .
The website says leave your dog at home, however lets face it none of the visitors are local , we cant leave him in the car on a hot day so my husband had to stay in car lot whilst rest of us did tour , they even stopped him tying him to the fence we do not expect to take him into facility but there should be an area to wait with you dog. Coupled with this the children pay the same price as the adults not good. I in short if you have children or your dog give Atlas a miss its over priced and does not cater for all..
My guide, Josiah, was awesome on my tour of the tunnels. I was the only person on the tour, so I got a bit of the "unmentionables" tour too. BTW it's a PICK.
Wonderful place to visit! Loved the tunnel tour.
We were escorted out after trying to sneak a tour without paying. I shouted" Ive been kicked out of better mines than this"
Let it stay in the HISTORY
We did the Tunnel Tour. Alicia was an excellent guide and kept us engaged the entire time. Worth the visit.
interesting spot to visit
Well maintained historical site. Took a girl guide group, and did the Tipple tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and well worth the stop.
Great place
Atlas Coal Mine is absolutely fascinating. They've done an amazing job both preserving and restoring the site. I was thrilled to see so many cars in the parking lot on this visit, compared to our first. People are rightfully stating to notice. I'm looking forward to taking in the Unmentionables Tour on my next visit.
Well preserved and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Educational and very interesting.
We really enjoyed our day at the mine. Awesome staff and tour guides. Definitely recommend.
Had lots of fun. Educational
Great.
Historically interesting. Wonderful tour guide..
Had a blast, spent a solid afternoon exploring with the kids
Interesting fact...coal mining started the 1st big boom...another fact...we have cushy jobs compared to are forefathers...so a educational experience
Tons of family fun
Very interesting place. We spent an hour there. You could easily spend longer if you were willing to pay for three different tours.
Great tour the guides are very informative well worth the time to stop in and tour
Very interesting location for studying history.
Historic site about the coal mines within the area. They offer a few different admissions. Was not very busy when I visited.
Step back in time for a truly authentic visitor experience.
The Tipple Tour was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and friendly. She obviously cared a lot about this place and its history. There were a number of great stories to be heard. Definitely worth the price. Just make sure to bring closed toe shoes and be prepared for a bit of an exercise hiking up the tipple.
Beautiful and smart project. Love it so much as 4 my boys! Such a great experience and friendly staff. Strongly recommend for family trip.
Really interesting historical mining site. You can even tour the tunnels. Definitely a must see if you are in the drumheller area.
Our family opted for a self guided tour as the longer tours would have been a struggle for our 5 and 7 year olds. It would have been interesting to see in the actual mine... maybe next time. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we did see and the train ride as well!
Pretty good if you like history or are interested in learning about coal mining. Otherwise it isn't the most exciting place to visit
Not worth the time it takes to book access online paid $50 to walk around site and look from the outside into buildings way too overpriced for what you get you get more from the brochure then you do from the actual place that disappointing and hard on the bank account.
Great tours and well Informed staff. The park is nicely sized and features many original pieces.
Fun historical place. The interactive mine tour was shut down when we went (covid) so you can basically walk around for about 45 mins and look at the site from the ground level. Still an interesting time!
Interesting place to visit.
We had such a great time here. The train ride was the best!
Good place to see history of Drumheller and how coal was made in Alberta back then.
Wonderful great tour, lively time very educational. Go for a tour at an adventurous outdoor museum
Good place to hike! But would not recommend if looking for a family attraction.
One of the best experiences of my life, this place is a true form of our heritage here in this province and the city of Drumheller. The tour of the tipple and train ride was very informative and will be back to do the actual tour of the mine.
It was fun to go through the mine, as well as the information from the guide.
This place is well worth a stop on your vacation, but make sure to give it a couple hours out of your day. They offer 3 family friendly tours, and one more mature. The family and I did the Tipple Tour and learned some amazing history. Robin was so full of energy it was contagious. Paid tours come with general admission, which comes with a train tour too.
was very interesting.
I’m very glad that it’s well-preserved and it allows a lot of people to look into an important history of the place. Artifacts and photographs really help to visualize the history. Staff are really helpful and do a great job in making the overall experience worthwhile. The mines and the old machineries were really a sight to see.
Greta tour, kids loved it. The tour guide was informative, great sense of humor and enjoyed her job! Would certainly come back for another tour!!
Cool place with lots of history.
Great staff and super interesting tour!
Really enjoyed my visit. Wish I had a bit more time. Find a sitter if you have a toddler. ????????
If you haven't been this place is a must! the tours are great and we love the old train ride a great family trip!
Very historic
A must see
Wonderful experience. Did the tunnel tour with our 7 and 9 year old boys and it did not disappoint. We did the tipple tour two years ago and loved that as well. Highly recommend this place to anyone!
Went to Drumheller on the Canada Long weekend, great visit at the Atlas Coal Mine was fun learning about the history I can't belive we have enough Coal to use for another 100 years!!
Really great experience. Dont try to sneak in, watched this family just walk in and then promptly get ejected.
Interesting place to visit and to hear in its time it attracted workers from all over the world and the amounts of coal produced.
Awesome experience, loved the tours!
Went on all the tours and the guides were fantastic! Highly recommended if you are in the area!
Wonderful piece of history
We had a good time there. An interesting piece of history I wouldn't know if not I happened to visit this place.
Online booking only. Expensive
Must visit, at least for the scenery. I haunt taken the tour for a long time. I think you can go into the mine now.
Great tours available.
Great for a family trip during covid
Neat place to visit, worth the stop
This is a must-see attraction, especially for anyone who loves trains and local history. My boys don't care for dinosaurs but every year, they want to come 4 hours south just for the coal mine. The guided are professional and humourous and the tours can be very interactive on request. We've asked a million questions and helped operate the switch track, opened ropes for Linda the train, and learned about the "real world" of mining compared to Minecraft. Our 6 year old especially loved comparing the real life tools to his Minecraft imagination. I'd give it 6 stars if I could!
A must see very cool
Very interesting. Had live in Drumheller for 15 years and had always wanted to visit Atlas since it expanded and you could walk into part of the mine and feel like an actual coal miner. Tour guides were very informative.
Awesome tourist attraction
Very fun and informative.
Great site to see how we used slave labor.. miners paid to live on site paid for their tools paid for everything... load 16 tons and what do you get?
Good
Great place to tour with the family. We got the all day pass and went on every tour and hike. Our kids 6 and 8 enjoyed it all and the walks were not too much for them. They have ice cream snacks and drinks, but could really use a food shack/concession as we were there for over 4 hours.
(Translated) The guides are tops. Location steeped in history (Original) Les guides sont tops. Lieu chargé d'histoire
Interesting little place, some good old machinery to poke around if that's your thing. The "Underground" tour isn't all that though. For the cost you basically get to climb ten storeys through a sketchy wooden boardwalk then go about five metres into the entrance of a mine that's blocked up. The train ride is only about 400 metres too. On the plus side, the guides were good. They delivered some interesting information and made some passable attempts at tour guide humour. All in all, it was an interesting few hours but probably oversold at the current prices.
Went here for a school trip. The content was great and the stories were well told. First time here and we really enjoyed it! Well worth it!
A very interesting look back to an important industry for the region in its time.
Fun neat experience
Do go here if in the Drumheller area. The mine is well preserved and really does provide an insight into how hard it must have been to be a miner in the old days.
Great place for people of all ages.
I find mining history incredibly interesting and the guides there are just as interested. The two individuals who were just cleaning the premises because it was a slow evening were so knowledgeable and kind enough to spend an hour with us answering questions (thank you to the guides, we didn't get their names but shout out to the whole group there!) . Didn't get the opportunity to any of the tours but I'm sure they are amazing and we ll be back for sure to complete them.
A little expensive to tour the mine but fun if your into that kind of thing
We were disappointed we were not able to go on any tours as they were not open. But still enjoyed walking around.
Very interesting place, but unable to take train tour due to scheduled times for tour not posted online...... Considering the location, having information online for planning purposes would be very helpful.
Nice
Amazing place. Definitely recommend stopping here.
This was a very interesting place to visit with lots to see and do. It is an industrial site, so be mindful of small children if you bring them along.
Great for a family outing even during pandemic restrictions.
Both educational and fun!
A great experience of what life was like for coal miners of old. Authentic. Well organized. Well worth it. Here is a home that two brothers and the wife of one lived in. Each brother worked opposite shifts. This home had a stove. chair and bed. The bare necessities of life!
We came for the afternoon as a family and enjoyed 3 tours. We ran out of time to do the "unmentionables" tour but we will definitely be back to do it. We had two tour guides, Char and Aaron( I think??) and they were both phenomenal! Very knowledgeable, fun and tons of interesting stories!
Great place and the staff were very friendly....Lots to see and worth the visit. Its a little pricey. The under ground tour was alright but we never got to go into the real mine it self to see what it was like to work in those conditions and to see what a coal seam looks like. I had higher expectations for the tour.
Great experience!
Went on the "train ride". Don't waist your money!! it sucks. There is a large historical coal building about a minute walk from the enterance. It literally takes you there and back and they ask you to leave the train every 10 seconds for some history speeches. It's hot, and the bugs are bad. Just walk instead and read the information boards. It was more like a 5 minute ride with a lot of fences and chains stopping the train and the guide selecting "a special helper" to jump out of the train, unhook the chain and let the train go through. Holy cow I wanted to kill myself. Not to mention they spray you with a squirt bottle... yes, everytime they stop the train, every 10 seconds the guide walks down the train and squirts a spray bottle. GAHH. Don't advertise it as an hour train ride, if it's going to be a 5 minute train ride and the rest standing and watching children learn how to clip a chain.
Awesome piece of history, everybody was super helpful and kind. My tour guide Nanik was very knowledgeable about the history like the back of his hand, knew every question I could throw his way. Very much recommend this place.
Awesome!! We didn't have time to do it all but definitely would have! We only did the train tour, it was pretty cool! I will be doing the complete tour next time!
Pretty cool place lots to see and explore
Amazing place to visit. The tour guides for the tunnel tour and the train rides were amazing! Definitely check this place out!!
Waste of time and money. Cost $53 for a family of five to walk around a boneyard of old broken down rail cars. There’s only three buildings to go in and not much to read to learn about the history. The only cool place was the wash house. The train would have been fun but it’s an added cost and only runs a few times a day so we missed that opportunity. Same with the guided tours. That’s the reason we went and there were non available. Don’t go.
Cool site and guided tours are great.
Kids favorite part of the trip to Drumheller was the coal mine! We just did the train ride but wished we did more. We will be back
Worth the trip! There is also alot of signage in the areas around drumheller and here about other historic land sites. Staff is extremely knowledgeable.
We went with a school trip and the guides were awesome. Very neat experience.
Great fun place tour guide are very friendly special thanks to our tour guide Amelia
This place was so cool and big! They obviously have a fair bit of history on the plaques to read from. Each section offered an explanation of what it was like, the day in the life of the people that worked in spots in the roles that they had. They even show what leisure life was like for the works and detail lay outs of a workers expenses. Cool old cars that would be worth a fortune today, lay in the yard.
The Atlas Coal Mine is a fantastic site with incredible buildings and amazing tours. Expect to spend several hours here. And note that it is only open from May to October.
If you have time do this tour. It was very interesting and informative. We spent about 5 hours to go through everything
The tunnel tour is fun but I mistakenly assumed it meant we went underground into the mine.
A lot to learn and full of interesting stories about the coal mine.
Great spot to go see. Great play area for the kids and the staff are great at telling the story of the mine.
Had a great time! The site it really interesting, lots of information and well run. Sarah gave us an awesome tour and really made the experience that much better. Thanks again!
Fun place to explore and learn. The self guided tour leads participants through the tipple, many structures and vehicles, and a large array of mining machinery. The signage is informative, often with engaging narratives and personal tales from generations past. Things to keep in mind: -book in advance from a place with good internet/data coverage. Trying to do so from the parking lot will be troublesome for most. -little shelter from sun or rain. -book ahead for guided and more in depth tours. -gift shop is online during COVID.
Interesting place but lacking info without the guides
Put this place at the top of your list to visit when you are in the area. I highly recommend the daypass which was $40 at the time. That gets you all the tours and pretty much the run of the place.
Always a beautiful historic site! Learned so much about our history
I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. This visit was the best one yet! The staff made this a memorable one! They were very knowledgeable and brought the stories of the past to life!
I only walked the grounds but they far surpassed my expectations. Kids will enjoy this place too.
Really expensive not great for kids 2-4.
Great piece of history.
Worth to see and experience.
Too much money
Super cool
Was very interesting to see how the miners lived, and the heavy duty machinery they used. A special thank you to Aaron our train driver/operator he was very knowledgeable and was fun to be with . Thank you Aaron
It was soooo fun
Great Historical site.
Very cool place!!
(Translated) Very interesting place. It is important to book in advance as some parts of the site have limited access (Original) Endroit très intéressant. Il est important de réserver à l'avance car certaines parties du site sont en accès limité
Did the tunnel tour but will go back to do the others. Very well done.
Very fun to explore!
If you are in Drumheller, this place is well worth a visit. We have been two or three times with our children, and they love it. We have taken the tour of the coal tipple and had a ride in the mine cars. There is also lots to see by walking around the site, with artefacts, equipment and displays that provide a glimpse into the past.
Sadly didn't get to explore museum as I needed to book a week before. Not very tourist friendly.
Nice to see and to visit
Nice to visit. Expensive tickets
We've been here multiple times, and we always learn something new
I could not do the whole tour as I could not climb the stairs. Definitely worth stoping by to check out the mine
It was the best place ever, even if it was raining, and it was closed. Will be definitely going back when it is open
Really neat place, guides are very helpful and engaging. Learned lots about coal mines.
Atlas is an awesome site to experience, however it is over priced...you pay $40.00 each for the full tour. Bob was very knowledgeable and friendly but some of the younger tour guides do not accurately know the information about the site, the mining process, or the equipment. Lots of little "stories" that may have hypothetically happened but lots of I'm not sures. The "Unmentionables" tour is not worth paying for. The tour up the gantry to the mine and the tour up the tipple were awesome......they just need to be sure of their information before they tell the story. It's our history and it needs to be accurate.
Nice place
Loved it here! I didnt know what to expect but it definitely exceeded my expectations. We did all 4 of the tours (tipple, tunnel, train, and unmentionable) and were all super informative and interesting! The 3 guides were had were very knowledgeable and obviously cared a lot. I would 100% recommend this place.
Great experience. We went on the mine tour. Amazing Race Canada season 1 filmed a challenge here
The underground tour was fun definitely coming back.
Fantastic site to visit a piece of Alberta history! Great friendly and knowledgeable staff.
We come here almost every year. Great walking tour! Today the electric train derailed. We missed it. Darn! Wonderful tour guides here.
All the tours were sold out the day we went. Would have be cool to do a tour and learn more about the history and go into the mines. Because we didn’t book a tour we weren’t able to go into the tipple. Very cool to learn about the history.
One the best place in Drumheller.
Really great place to visit. The tour into the mine is awesome.
Very cool bit of history. I highly recommend the guided tours. We did the underground and the processing plant tours and both were very interesting and informative!
Pricey, great tours, history from old miners
My wife had gone quite a few years ago and had a great time. You now have to pay for a tour of almost everything instead of being able to explore yourself. Some pretty cool history though.
Informative interpretive displays about mine interesting part of this towns history
Great place to visit. I can't wait for more upgrades to be made.
fascinating history
Great historical place
Awesome tour. Friendly knowledgeable tour guide.
Great place for history nuts. Awesome tours of tipple and coal mine.
Very happy we went . The kids loved it . Even my 20 yr old
I would highly recommend this historic site for a visit. They have last wooden tipple in canada!
(Translated) Today, no business, no chance to come later estimated pity. (Original) 今天沒營業,以後估計沒機會過來,可惜了。
Good history of Alberta's past coal industry
Interesting info. Cool EarthCache!
My grandpa was a coal miner great place to explore and learn how our country was the hard work these men did to help build this country
Very cool place to look around and learn about the fascinating history of Drumheller and the areas around it. We did the underground tour and our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the mine and its rich history. We also toured the grounds and saw old mining equipment and read the stories of past tragedies and explanations on how things worked and how the mining techniques evolved over time. All in all a great time. Lots of cool things to do and see for the whole family on site. There have been quite a few movies shot there and a paranormal investigation show also did a show of that area as there were some accidents and fatalities there back in the day. Apparently some miners and staff may have never left.
Neat little piece of history
Was ok
Very interesting. Great guides
Took my husband for the first time (my 5th) lots of changes since my first visit. Still a very good tour. The price has went up considerably in the last 5 years.
Oh how we've evolved.
Great place
Best most comprehensive mine tour around. Highly recommended that take the triple tour option. Well worth the 4 hrs youll be there. Only down side is there's no food or snacks.
Lots of fun!
Interesting history. Love that they do tunnel and mine tours. The general admission was kind of steep for what we got, though. It was $12/person for just the main paths of the mine yard and 4 small buildings. I dont see why my 7 year old and 11 year old needed to get charged for something they were throughly bored with.
Super cool tour, good place to spend a day.
Historic but not mutch to do there
Nice
Beautiful
Nice place
Its an old coal mine thats educational. Its not very expensive and my kids did enjoy the old coal train ride. I may go back again when my kids are older and go in the tunnels
Very interesting site. So fun to explore and hear the stories. Amazing staff are very knowledgeable! Definitely worth the trip.
Excellent and interesting place to spend a few hours with the family.
The site is not fully open due to covid but still cool to see how it was operated
Our Tour guide Alexi for the mine was very knowledgeable and made it enjoyable. Starting from acknowledging the treaty land to all the stories from when the mine was active. I really enjoyed myself
Awesome place to learn about the coal industry in Southern Alberta.
Cool place
(Translated) I like the site (Original) J'ai aimer le site
A very interesting bit of Alberta history. Lots of fun. Can be challenging to climb especially on hot day. Take lots of water and wear a hat and sunscreen.
We paid for a day pass and spent over 5 hours there - had it been a cooler day we could have stayed even longer. I highly recommend you do all the tours - tipple, train and mine. Our kids, ages between 10- 15, found it interesting to see this peice of the past too. A true treasure and a perfect way to step into the past and see what life would have been like.
5 Star Plus!!! I went down to Drumheller the last week of June with no intention of going to see the Atlas Coal Mine. However, with some time to spare I decided to take it in. The best tour I have ever been on. Emily Fletcher was amazing. She obviously knows all her facts and listening to her actually made you feel like you were living it. Thank you Emily. You are an extremely talented lady and I hope Atlas realizes how lucky they are to have you working for them. Thanks again.
Great history
Best place ever. So many amazing things to do. The best is climbing to the top of the Tipple! You can ride a coal cart train. Learn all about the coal history in the area, even tour underground in the mine. Loved everything here!
Lots of fun, wish we could have booked in the for the tipple tour but it just didn't work with when we could be there
Enjoyed it thoroughly.....learned alot about some of dirty and dark past....stuff that makes you grateful.
Coal Train ride was a joke ,I thought it will take us for a tour around the mine but instead the train went forward 40 meters and then backward 80 meters then that was that ?! We saw an old shed where miners slept and then some rusted equipment! That was a joke .I bought tickets for 8 people ....it was a waste of money if you go there do not take the train
Awesome place ... awesome
This is a well done preservation of a coal mine. It includes train rides and guided tours. Our guide was very knowledgable and had lots of interesting stories. Definitely do the Tunnel Tour! Helps if you are a history buff. On the down side, it was fairly pricey - more so than Tyrell. If you want more bang for your buck - go to the dinosaur museum.
Interesting.
One of the best authentic outdoor museums that I have ever been to....
Very interesting, we took the whole package.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. Very interesting. Wear practical shoes, bring water. Enjoyed an icecream treat while waiting for our coal car ride. Pre-book online 3 days in advance or more.
So interesting. Fantastic guide. I would make time for this tour, especially if you are a history buff like me.
Great experience. Kids loved it . Staff where incredible and hands on with the kids . Recommended to everyone
I have been to Atlas 3 times, and my most recent trip took the all inclusive tour. So remarkable to walk the steps of these miners, from the office, to the eerie shower room to up and inside the mine. I look forward to going back again. I highly recommend.
Extremely Eye opening place to visit If you enjoy Historic Scenery in Drumheller Calgary.
What a great place to learn about the coal mines in a fun and interactive way. The guides are fantastic and incredibly friendly!
Awesome ! The guide was professionnal, answered all our questions and easy to understand
Great little family adventure
Neat place. Friendly staff. A real piece of history. A bit pricey though. Mine tour a little disappointing as you don't get very far underground.
Great history to learn there
Well remember for ever, excellent tour
A good place for fishing
It was closed as it is very late in the season but I think I will be back next year.very cool
Highly recommend this tour if you're in drumheller. Great customer service and excellent price for the tour.
Great place, nicely restored location with on-site on the history of the area
My wife and I had a great visit here today into the mine . Tour guide was very knowledgable .
Pretty cool tour. You can't go in the actual mine as it's collapsed, but instead the tour takes you through a tunnel/walkway that extends into and through a hill. I think there's plans to expand the tour-able part of the mine in the future, but for now only the single tunnel is stable. Don't fall for the tour guide's trick, where he tries to get you to taste the salt crystals growing along the tunnel: Those salt crystals are a result of decades of men peeing in the mine. Obviously what's left now is just the mineral/salt content, but it's still gross to think about. Also, before you don one of the hard hats, check to make sure it's clean inside. The person who used my helmet last must have sweat a lot. About 5 minutes into the tour I noticed that where the helmet came in contact with my head was damp. I moved it around but it only made it worse. I could smell the vinegary fermenting sweat in my hair for hours after, until we finally got to our hotel and I could shower.
Very interesting place to visit
It isn't open for the full thing but it's a good check off but would recommend going when the tour is open
I took part in the mining tour. This was a very interesting experience where you took part in the daily life of a miner. You travel upwards to the mines and the instructor is very knowledgeable and passionate about making sure visitors have a exciting, and entertaining experience. Wish more of the mine was open, not just the entry. But it was still a very lovely tour. You can also wander the grounds after where you can enjoy many other buildings with information inside. (You can also play with the coal wagon, and push it too!)
Fun tour of a bit of history. The guide made it even more enjoyable.
Such a wonderful experience. We did the coal mine tour and learned a lot of history . I would highly recommend taking this tour. Be sure to bring water with you and comfortable walking shoes. You will be doing a steep climb.
My girlfriend and I went on the tour of the coal mine. It was alot of fun and we learned about the conditions the coal miners use to work in everyday. The tour guide was pretty knowledgable and had some funny stories about miners that use to work there. I highly reccomend this place if you enjoy history.
We absolutely loved it. It's really too bad we didn't have more time
Excellent chance to see some of the original works of a coal mine. Hoping for lessening of restrictions in the near future to see underground and get a guided tour!
Awesome bit of history
Loved it. Have to come back to experience the other tours
