REVIEWS OF Art Gallery of Alberta IN Alberta

Naomi Legg

This gallery has great installations all the time! I loved the Indigenous perspectives and the way they made art accessible to my students.

Israa Hilles

First time here, we like the building place, friendly staff and a lot of things to do there

Sofi CB

Beautiful building and nice staff, however the exhibits are not worth the visit, quite disappointing.

Jerusha Chua

Admission is free if you're a student in Alberta, and only $10 if you're a student from another province in Canada! It's a pretty small art gallery, but still has a good number of exhibits to visit. You could easily spend 1-2h here if you took your time walking. The rooftop has a cafe and decent patio with city views too.

Monika van Hoeve

On Thursdays open till 8pm. Free entrance for students! Very well laid out galleries. Interesting art instalations. Golden Light must see exhibition.

David Lundquist

It wasn't nearly enough content within the gallery however what was that was pretty good and the gallery itself is quite exceptional

Crystal Theberge

Otto Schroeder

Interesting and unique place to visit. It has three floors fully staffed with paintings. There also is a cinema in the basement where you can see interesting movies. I really like how guides work. They are very enthusiastic and doing their job great.

20210716 With outdoor air being fouled by wildfire, I spent an enjoyable afternoon visiting the gallery. I particularly liked the art work by black & Indigenous artists who do not always have the resources or venues to interact with the public. The admission fee is reasonable and goes to support the facility and Alberta's art community in general.

The first time I wrnt to the Art Gallery, quite a few years ago now, I had a guided tour. This was very insightful to me and helped understand abstract paintings which beforehand seemed like pointless nothingness to me. Coming back here with a deeper understanding of art it was a great experirnce once again. I can see the thought that was put into the art instead of just seeing colors.

Owen Tyndall

Great art gallery with interesting exhibits. Definitely worth visiting if you have time to spare in Edmonton.

Jani Galarneau

So wonderful to have our show Edmonton Art Club, A Century of Mark Making:1921- 2021. The whole process of setting up the show,to our opening was so professionally done. It was especially great to actually have an event since the Covid shut downs. The Art Gallery of Alberta is a treasure

Good place to visit on a weekend or during special exhibits. Offers guided tours and has a gift shop. Also has around 5 to 6 different chambers centred around different themes that houses all sculptures and paintings. Has video exhibits too.

Elizabeth Cruickshank

Beautiful space architecturally, and beautiful work inside. There was an impact full exhibit by an Indigenous artist about the residential schools and his personal loss. He is alive today. And some really interesting displays showing the impact of colour and behavior. Definitely going again.

Magnus

The building is an edifice, a beauty to behold. The interior is quiet lovely as would be expected and clean. In the summer The climate was well controlled. Did not watch any event as I visited out of curiosity of being around the vicinity and was lucky to see the inside.

Debra Anne Morgan

It was sorely dissapointing. Had the appearNce of a bunch of try hards not quite making a statement. If asked by oeople of a visiting country, I would have to say, " Don't waste your time".

Alvic D

Impressive architectural design + great curated artwork

Tia A

Very quiet and a cute little place to have a date. University students in Alberta (any college/university) can get in for free or by small donation! Features local artists, and currently an exhibit on Black artists. 10/10 would go again.

Atlántida Cels Solano (La Palomita)

Very nice place and tonight was super, dancing with the band Manny V y su Esquina Latina!!

Lesley Alkaine Agruda

This place is really nice, new concepts every few months and I always go and check it out. The arts that are posted are really cool and interesting. I do photography and I go here sometimes to see what I can take a photo of. There's some limitations to where and what to do ti be able to take pictures. Also there's only a few floors. I wish they would have more sometimes to view. Overall its a really cool place ti chill out if your an art fan or even if youre not.

Arun Nair

A stunning gallery with some really interesting art pieces. Love the fact that most of the artworks are of local artists. There is a nice cafeteria on the 2nd floor as well, the coffee is excellent. The staff is super friendly too.

dee clements

I love the gallery but I always feel like it is lacking..... that there isnt enough to "do" or see. So I only come for specific exhibits

Sherry Almeida (Crème de la Crème Wedding)

Nice place for a wedding, but there were to many restrictions in place as far as setting up for my clients.

Jeffrey Dylan Hugill

Always been a fan of the gallery. Have a wide variety of contemporary art from local talent that really speaks for how the city sees itself. It is not a gallery that tends to have classical paintings, though there was a selection of Picasso pieces when we visited. The food selection is enough to sustain oneself, though it is predominantly about the art on display and not the food on hand!

Kevin Mulroney

Very unique museum, features a variety of different types of artwork. I particularly enjoy the large selection of abstract pieces. Modern architecture and the overall cleanliness of the place add to the positive experience.

lucas martinez

Beautiful place and art to enjoy.

Robert Colbert

Great architecture and Art, enjoyed it all. Too bad the cafe was closed ????

Brenda Fraser

Always fun to see the changing exhibits. Often thought provoking. Love the building...the curves, metal, wood and glass bring so many elements together.

Shaun Aitken

Excellent displays. Love the layout of the building. Been there a few times, but found out today, there is stuff in the level below the main floor as well.

David Neil

Small exhibits, mostly dedicated to modern abstract art. Maybe other exhibits will be better. I was hoping to see some of the diverse culture of Alberta on display, and this wasn't it. The roots exhibit was really good though and included some amazing, thought provoking works.

Donna Ross

Went on December 18th during their free event. It was truly enjoyable.

Shaun A

Always has great displays. Architecture is cool. Easy accessibility.

Kyle Ames

Disappointed... building was of greatest interest... color exhibits on the 4th were interesting and the aboriginal exhibit brought some emotion. The rest was filler with off exception. .European museums are no comparison!!!

Paul Mills

The building is awesome, and is very clean and tidy. To be honest, I was somewhat disappointed, only because the art displayed was not really to my taste. I will say though, that there were some nice pieces.

Jennifer N

I was underwhelmed by the exhibits. Black every day was astounding stunning and moving, but it stood out from the general mediocrity of the gallery. The architecture is beautiful. I expected more from the provincial gallery.

Jay Cee

The gallery this time has a few sections on photography(effects of settings) and both urban and rural landscape paintings. The upper floors have a survivability theme to it! Ever wondered how people survived up in the true north? They have videos of their livelihood (warning animal blood and gore) Come and visit the art gallery!
