I can speak on both the professional and personal levels about A-1. Years ago they moved my company. Then they did it again. And again. Yup, three corporate moves within the past 10 years. These were not easy moves but they made it look easy. Using them - we dealt with Matt years ago and Tim more recently - was one of the better customer service experiences I've had in business. The only stress-free part of moving was the movers! Anyone who has moved/relocated knows the experience ranks high on life stress events. (between losing a family member and going to jail). Of all the specialists you use from agents, inspectors, lawyers, bankers, buyers, sellers etc...The provider that is dependent on all pieces coming together is the movers. Removing stress, being flexible and knowledgeable is so important and is mostly about logistics management. During both our move out and move in (with 2 months in storage in between) - A1 provided an outstanding, well trained, efficient crew who packed, stored, unpacked etc with perfect execution. But the thing that mattered more to us was the trust and assurance we had from working with the logistics team. I unequivocally recommend using A1-First Class Moving.

We chose Steinway moving to handle our transfer from Brooklyn, NY to Monroe, NJ because of their reputation and excellent record with the BBB and Federal agencies. Their prices were very competitive and they were willing to accommodate our move from two separate locations into one new home. This was done over a two day period with pick-up and delivery at each location taking one days time. The sales rep, Joe, came to both locations, asked questions and took extensive notes about exactly what services we required of them. For example, in each room he questioned which items we were packing and which the movers would pack for us as well as which items were high value. He then calculated his pricing and quickly sent us the contract the next morning. Joe even showed up while the movers were packing up the first location to insure everything was moving along as planned. Each day the movers were punctual and very businesslike in setting about their task immediately. Each person was clearly aware of their job and worked at a brisk pace from start to finish without respite. The client must be vigilant, though, in supervising the move. We found that some of the movers had limited English proficiency and, therefore, the client must carefully choose clear and concise language when speaking with them. Another issue is that the client must pay careful attention to packaging and labeling done by the movers. We found numerous boxes mislabeled which led to difficulty finding items and confusion as to whether these items were packed and delivered. Before the movers depart for the new location the client must do a careful walk-through with the site supervisor. We found the workers eager to leave for their delivery but all items that had to be moved were not yet packaged. This occurred at both locations and they had to be called back into the premises, more than once, to complete phase one of the move. However, once they arrived at the new location they caught a second wind and again were moving swiftly. They never complained about carrying heavy items to the second floor. They even had us laughing when some of them got into a disagreement, among themselves, about the placement of furniture for the best decorative effect. The salesperson's patience in dealing with us, before and after the move, and the crews energy and professional demeanor would be worthy of a five rating. The little glitches in mislabeling and their failure to secure all the items before leaving caused us to drop a point. However, we must also stress that it's in the clients interest to be vigilant and responsible in overseeing the move in accordance with the sales agreement. We recommend Steinway moving for your personal or business move.

We had a wonderful residential move with A-1 First Class. From the beginning, they were very professional. We received a detailed estimate and written documentation via email concerning all aspects of the move after discussing it in detail. The moving consultant we were assigned was very responsive and answered any follow-up questions we had via phone and email. The move involved some more difficult items including a piano to be carried down a set of stairs, a large piece of artwork to be packaged on move day and a few sculptures that they arranged to have crated at our home a couple of days prior to the move. Everything went smoothly. On the day of the move, the moving crew was very punctual and arrived 10 minutes early. They were very efficient, courteous and well prepared for all the items being moved/packaged. They even finished before the time that was quoted on their estimate so our bill in the end was adjusted accordingly, AMAZING! A definite “GO TO” for all your moving needs!

Calling this the worst move of my life is an understatement. They moved us from Brooklyn to Chicago. 1. NO communication about where our stuff was, when it would arrive. 2. DRASTICALLY underestimated the weight of the move causing nearly $1,000 in overages. 3. Sent a truck that was too small so a significant number of things had to be strapped to the outside of the truck. 4. Not surprisingly, they lost a $500 bike. 5. Showed ABSOLUTELY zero compassion about the stress they were causing us until I complained. 6. Ever single person passed the responsibility of the bad move on to someone else. No accountability, no responsibility. I could literally go on for days and have emails, photos and much more to share if you are even considering these idiots.

First time moving with Steinway and had a great experience. I had difficulty finding a company to help me move on short notice. Luckily, Steinway was available and they were professional from start to finish. Started off with a facetime call to look at the things in my home to move and received a quote soon after. They are priced higher than other moving companies but the movers were professional, arrived on time and worked quickly and carefully. They knew how to wrap and pack especially more fragile items (mirrors, glass, TVs) and took extra care from the origin to destination. Was originally estimated to finish in 7 hours but they worked quickly without breaks and finished in 6. After the move, inspected all my items and found nothing was damaged. Will definitely use them again for future moves and will be recommending others.

I had such a great experience with A-1 First Class. The site survey was easy and welcoming. Joe (our account manager) came by our apartment and paid attention to every detail and gave great advice about packing. I expected A-1 to be pricey. Not so! When I moved TO my former apartment, I had 1/3 of the stuff. A-1 moved us FROM the apartment for less than 30% more than we paid to move in. Why didn't I use them last time? The move was (predictably) the hottest day of the year. The moving team put a HUGE effort in, moving us to our 3rd floor walk up. Easy to work with and to direct them, they made a hot day fun! Yuriy and his crew packed us up and moved us from Long Island to Fairfield, CT. When I say they were amazing, I mean it. I work full-time and my husband had been away M-F working for several months before we moved up. I have three kids 4, 6, and 8. I had no time to do ANYTHING. Ok, I packed my underwear and that's it! haha! They did EVERYTHING--I mean EVERYTHING else. And with amazing speed and care. They even wrapped my boxes of tea! When it came to unpacking, my husband said they didn't even take a break for lunch. I strongly recommend them. They broke nothing, and asked maybe five questions over three days. Super nice guys were great to my old dog and little kids getting in the way. Also, we used A-1 First Class a few years ago when moving from NY to FL. There's a reason we used them again. Fantastically professional team. Laurie in sales, Bryan the move consultant who gave me the quote, and Lara who organized the team were responsive, helpful and great to deal with. As for the guys doing the actual moving of my stuff, well I lived on a 5th floor walk up, and moved to a 4th floor walk up. It was 85 degrees and 90% humidity, but the move team didn't lose their sense of humor, and worked fast to get me moved. I would have no hesitancy using them again.

Pricing doesn't have anything to do with the estimation they give and the estimation is the first criteria to hire the company. Given all the details (locations, elevators, floor, detailed number of items in each room) they gave an estimation and they were slow and charged incredibly higher than the estimation. In the end, the final price was 35% higher than the estimation, then, why need the estimation? They didn't make any discount and just said they need to make the collection. The First and last time I work with this company. So, calculate your move with this in mind If they say, it is $1350, then, it can well be $1850, which was my case and then, they say it was because of the limited information I gave them.

Steinway movers were superb. The three who moved me worked very closely together, working quickly with great care. They were fast but also attentive and thoughtful. Nothing was broken even though there was a lot of artwork. All three went above and beyond. Marvin saved the day by suggesting where furniture should go when I was stumped, which also helped us keep on time. He also identified his boxes with detail so it was really easy to figure out what exactly was in each of his boxes. Hector was superb at explaining things and also with placement. Went with Steinway for my move out of NYC to Long Island and am so glad I did. Joe Hamill coordinated the move was make the process painless. Joe made sure I had everything I needed for the move and navigated through the hoops of my coop building including obtaining a COI. I couldn’t be at my apartment so Joe held a few FaceTime calls with me to provide an accurate estimate for the move and make sure he knew what items would be moved and what items were staying in the apartment for the buyer. Joe was on site to make sure the move went perfectly and even FaceTimed me when complete to walk me through the apartment to confirm everything I wanted moved was taken and everything that I wanted to stay in the apartment was still there. They showed up on time and gave me an accurate eta on arrival to destination where all my items were carefully placed where I directed and did so in a timely manner. They packed up my items so nicely and even unwrapped and assembled the items I requested them to. All in all it was an amazing painless experience and I cannot thank Joe and the people at Steinway for making it all happen. The only reason I gave this company 2 stars is because the movers were great guys but I got robbed something serious. My husband was quoted one price but we ended paying double almost triple the amount and we still had to carry some of our belongings in our cars because we couldn't used the entire truck even though we paid extra to have our stuff delivered the next day. I'm pretty sure they were going to deliver our stuff the next day anyway but just another way to get more money out of us. The owner would not release our belongings until he had every penny and then tried to charge even more once they got our new home. A bunch of greedy crooks!!!! I would never use this company again and I no way would I recommend them to any one moving long or short distance.

The movers showed up right on time, were courteous and professional, and worked efficiently, meticulously packing and wrapping my furniture. We packed all of our belongings in boxes, but the guys still took the time to re tape boxes that needed it, and carefully loaded them on the truck. Office communication was also fantastic. This was my first time using a moving company, and A1 strongly exceeded my expectations on my interstate move from NY to PA. From the get-go, I felt like a valued customer. My estimator, Bryan, and relocation coordinator, Heather, were incredibly responsive, friendly, and willing to work with me so that I could pay for just the services I needed and avoid any other charges (there were, in fact, no surprise charges on my final bill--what I saw on the estimate was what I got). And they worked with me to make a competitive estimate. The crew on moving day was professional, friendly, and quite skilled. I did need to submit two minor damage claims (within any reasonable margin of error for such a big project, I think), and my relocation coordinator made reimbursement super easy (no shortchanging, no bureaucracy, and no trouble). Steinway exceeded my expectations! I have had some forgettable experiences in the past with movers so I didn't know what to expect. Joe was patient with me and took into account all my needs. This move wasn't for the faint of heart between needing storage, packing and dealing with a 4 floor walkup but they got the job done without a blink of an eye. I will gladly and without hesitation recommend Steinway and Joe for any moving needs!

This is the second time that I have used A-1 First Class and it is the second time that they did an outstanding job. Moving is no fun to begin with but I moved during a tropical storm and that just made everything more difficult. The team from A-1 worked smartly and efficiently so that my things did not get very wet. They stationed 2 guys on the truck and 2 guys in the house so that they did not track water and dirt into our new home. They were very hard working and clearly knew what they were doing. I would not consider using anyone but A-1. They are the best!

I have never written a review on line but felt compelled to write this one because the experience I had with Steinway was out of the ballpark from start to finish. We had a quite complex number of moves over several weeks to local and interstate places and all went smoothly without any hitches. Joe was fabulous to work with: interpersonally skilled and a pleasure to interact with, flexible, organized, but most importantly extraordinarily competent. I always felt his desire to make the move work for me. The follow-through on the paperwork, setting of dates, and taking care of details was highly efficient which makes one’s life so much easier during the stress of a move. Thank you to Heather. I've used A-1 First Class for at least six moves in the last 15 years, and they always do a fantastic job. The communication is excellent, for one, which is crucial when you're about to move and things are hectic. They will customize your move depending on your schedule, budget, and timeline. On moving day, even though there's a plan in place, they can pivot and improvise when things come up. They' take great care of your belongings and show you and your family respect and consideration. Since moving can be one of the most stressful times in your life, finding the right moving company is so important. I wouldn't consider going through a move without them.
