Best worry-free moving company! From start to finish I couldn't have asked for a better team of professional. They were hard working, speedy, and careful with all of our belongings. Thanks to Mike for the estimate and to both the move-out and move-in teams!

Had my parents household items moved from our house in Perth ON to Alberta. We thought the loading went good, however later we found out even though we paid for inside storage in their wearhouse, they kept our stuff in a freight trailer in their yard from June 2018-Decrmber 2018 yet charged us for proper storage. Items had moisture damage. Over 50% of out items were broken and damaged and even quite a few things missing. They didn't tag our items in storage unit they loaded and didn't properly mark our items. First Drivers refused to take the load from them because of the extent of Damage. Our load ended up being loaded after our delivery date and brought out with documentation of how damaged things are. We are missing a piece from every bed, so we are sleeping on the floor until they resolve this issue. NOT IMPRESSED, I used to work for Allied and in 4 years never saw so much damage in 1 load.

Don't hire this company or any moving company in general. We moved from Ottawa to Edmonton Alberta and it cost us $6400 to move a 1 bedroom apartment. If you have a hard to access building like us they will screw you out of another $300 to do a shuffle and repack as they cant fit their trailer. When we arrived in Edmonton they held our stuff for ransom and demanded an additional $350 to deliver as our residence wasnt conviennent enough for them. The movers that day showed up with awful attitudes and complained about our stairs and did not bring tools to put our bed and other items back together. Some of our boxes looked visibly destressed as they had been thrown around by morons in a warehouse. When we tried to make a claim for our broken items they told us they wouldnt cover anything we packed ourselves even though it looked like they actively tried to destroy our boxes. All in all, hiring Sheffield is one of the worse mistakes i have ever made in my life. Get a pod or uhaul and do it yourself. We hired this company to handle the logistics of our move and help reduce our stress and honestly they only added to it. I would rate 0 stars if i could. Good luck with you your move. ***Edit and Reply to owner response below*** We had been in contact with this company below and if we hadreceived an adequate response and compensation for the absolute mess of service we received we would not have resorted to calling out their awful customer service in a public forum. Obviously this is a damage control response to have the appearance of respectability and customer service but in reality Sheffield has taken no ownership to how badly we were treated. All we are looking for is to be refunded the delivery amount of $359.84 and an additional $200 for the boxes that were destroyed by their staff. Apparently they are not claimable because we packed ourselves. If Sheffield is actually interested in being the company they claim below, that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. The next avenue we will be pursuing is filing an argument in Small claims court. Apologies for the long post. We hope that others don't end up in a similar situation with this company. ***Edit and Reply to owner response below***

Extreamly disappointed. Sheffield Ottawa is the contractor for ALLIED VAN Lines USA. We used Allied Van Lines in 2011 to move from the USA to Canada, it was the best service. We trusted their service would be the same to move back to Chicago from Ottawa. We were totally wrong. They are using bad contractors. Sheffield cost $6500 USD. 30 days storage + loading and unloading. They were slow to upload from Ottawa with 1 driver and 1 kid. Then everything went in storage in Ottawa until we bought a property in Chicago. Between closing August 29 in Ottawa and closing in Chicago September 22, day we gave the OK to load, to today, the communication through emails was very ppor and they do not pickup the phone for emergencies! We had to go through Allied Van Lines to get responses. We got a confirmation it is 10 days. Ok we thought we will get our household Oct-5, latest. Then got an email "Window delivery October 3 October 17... " no 3 weeks was unacceptable! We Emailed Allied Van Lines. Then we received an email end of September to confirm deliver date October 3. I went to the city to pay for a parking permit for the Van to block for a 28 feet VAN on October 3. I Get home another email "no it will be October 4"... Couldn't they call! Very Unprofessional. Bad communication and poor responses. Now here is the ***BAD PART***! Sheffield LOST HALF of our Household. They cannot find it!! The driver confirmed he is bringing most boxes but NO BEDS, NO SOFA, NO Dinning Table, only dinning table chairs and dinning table extenders. They just cannot find our furniture. The sad part is we put our trust in companies like ALLIED VAN LINES for their names, their reputation, and they hire poorly managed contractor and there you go. Lost belongings. Its not the money. Its the things that we care for. My Grand father handmade cedar trunk made just for me! My great grand mother's dressers, passed from my grand mother to my mother to me! My mother's paintings! ALL LOST. Because apparently it is a real mess in Sheffield warehouse. Believe me there are good companies out there doing the work themselves not hiring contractors. Inquire before you sign up! It feels terrible to loose your belongings.

Great price and organized, hard workers! We had a short move with quick timelines. Estimate was bang on to get our whole house into the truck. Didn't realize I had so much... Thanks to Mike and Sheffield team for organizing the move so fast!

The packers and the guys who performed the move were professional and courteous. Very high marks for the muscle. Sheffield's admin staff, however, need a lesson or two in customer communications. After we agreed on the quote for a full pack and move into long-term storage, I had to send several emails over a two-week period to receive our final contract and confirmation letter. Every time I emailed, I got a response back saying it would be done that day... and then it wasn't. On the day of the move, our arrival time came and went. Finally, I got a call from Sheffield's dispatcher to say that our crew was out sick, but they were "working on a plan. Worst case scenario, we'll have a team there in the afternoon." By 1:00 pm, with no crew in sight and no update from Sheffield, I called the dispatch number, which went unanswered twice. The first time, I hung up and tried again. The second, someone picked up the phone and then hung up, which is enough to fill anyone with dread. So I called the main office number and spoke to a very responsive individual who said she'd discuss my case with the dispatch manager and get back to me immediately. One hour later, I still had not received a call. I drove to the Sheffield office and asked for the individual to whom I had spoken. She was unhappy to hear that I hadn't received a callback, and said the dispatch manager promised her that he'd ring me right away with an update. She brought him to me, and he immediately apologized, saying it was a "challenging day, logistically." Which I said wasn't really my problem. He agreed and promised a team between 3:00 and 4:00. Twenty minutes after I got home, an advance crew was there to wrap my furniture, and the remaining guys arrived an hour or so later. Move went from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, pretty much as expected - and, as I said, with the highest degree of professionalism. Two weeks later, with no charge made to our credit card and no word about the final weight of our move, I had to email yet again to remind Sheffield that I was still waiting to pay for service. I wouldn't call this a disaster, by any stretch. And I'm certainly not one to cast blame when things go sideways, as they did for us on this occasion. But communication is key in situations like these. Sheffield really needs to up its game in this area.

Back since they were operating as Tippett-Richardson, our family has depended on the professionals at Sheffield Moving & Storage Inc. More than just movers, they are people who truly care about their clients.

Had a great experience with Sheffield! Movers arrived on time and worked efficiently, even with limited elevator availability in my building. They went above and beyond! They had to partially disassemble a couple pieces of furniture to fit them out the door and they reassembled on arrival. All done quickly and efficiently. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly, polite and hard workers.

The moving team - Pete Senior, Pete Junior and Greg - did an awesome job this morning. They took extra care of my new precious antiques and everything went as planned! They work very well together and are very professional. I am very happy! Thank you Sylvie Williams

Truck parked in residential neighbourhood and left running for hours starting at 3am. Not the first , second or tenth time.Called business number first as no trailer, truck operating outside of normal hours. We have kids and don't need the added bonus of your loud truck running at odd hours. Please park somewhere else. Sincerely neighbour on Johnson street!

We hired Sheffield Moving and Storage Inc. to move us from Ottawa, Ontario to Holyrood, Newfoundland. It was a very positive experience. They provided us a very accurate estimate of the cost for the packing and the move. The company did an excellent job packing our furniture and efforts (F&E) (over 15,000 lbs) such that we had almost no damage during the move. The movers were very professional. They took great care with our F&E as well our house.

Long distance move from Ottawa to AB in Nov 2019. Self packed. Service and communication leading up to load day in Ottawa was terrific, our moving consultant was responsive and very helpful. Movers were on time, friendly and very efficient. Communication could have been better after loading. Was given a 3-week delivery window, which was reasonable considering the distance. However ongoing updates would have been nice, goods arrived a few days after the window and driver informed me that our load had sat in Toronto waiting for a full truck until just a few days prior, we were his first offload. If we'd known this we wouldn't have spent three weeks assuming our goods could arrive any day. Movers on the AB end were terrific, careful, efficient and friendly. Goods were handled well, nothing lost. Some minor damages were handled by claims department super fast and easily. Overall a great experience, can't thank Carole, Kim, and all our movers enough.

Carole Gazdig Carole Gazdig deserves the highest praise for her exceptional professional service throughout the course of my move from Ontario to BC. She was one of three moving consultants I compared during the initial process of determining which shipping company to choose. She was miles ahead of anyone else in terms of determining my needs and providing me with options depending on the extent of goods I would be shipping. She came onsite and compiled a rigorous inventory of my possessions (other appraisers came on site but only did casual and superficial estimates) and she went beyond the call of duty to provide explanations and clarifications of all aspects of the shipping process. She took the time to answer all my queries and deal with all my concerns in a friendly, considerate, and professional manner and I could count on her to respond to and resolve whatever matter I raised in at any time. There was no question in my mind that I would sign with her. And during my move, she kept me updated and informed on any developments and timings to ensure I was kept abreast of all steps involved in my move. What more can you ask for – she was a consummate professional, always friendly and personable, and exceptionally competent! I cannot praise Carole enough – and I unreservedly recommend her as an exemplar of service in the moving and shipping industry.

After hearing my dissatisfaction with the company, the CEO of Sheffield’s reached out to me and was extremely empathetic and understanding of my situation. He offered immediate services and reimbursement for lost item during the move. I would recommend this company as long as the CEO remains the same.

Based on my recent experience, I can highly recommend Sheffield for your moving needs. I've lived in five Canadian cities so I've dealt with various moving companies over the years, some good and some ... well, you know. These folks are professional and courteous with good attention to detail. - Jeff

The worst company ever, don't answer email. Had a 900$ hidden fee for us to take our items out! over 20% of our boxes were completely damaged! we decided to use another company to move our stuff over sea. They had to re-wrap most of the furniture, as the wrapping was already damaged! kids that came to wrap and to move our stuff! this company never answer even answer any of our complain. We have missing items, and damaged one! Never use them, They don't care about your items!

We moved from Ottawa to Guelph over the summer of 2020. Due to COVID-19, Sheffield offered a virtual visit for an estimate. Mike Milligan provided the estimate of $2,384. We asked for full packing to be completed, though this was apparently unclear to them on the day of the move and was later a matter of contention. The company called us for a deposit the day before the move and Kim Brousseau in Billing assured us that the Operations Department would call soon to confirm. They never called. We had to call on the loading day and there was a long delay. The movers eventually arrived in the late afternoon of July 28th, 2020 and were not equipped to complete a full pack, which we had asked for. While they waited for supplies, they used boxes that were previously used to pack other customers' goods. It took 6-7 hours in total of packing (one house and one basement in another home). The movers damaged our door moving a couch. In Guelph, we waited for another phone call that never came. Kim Brousseau finally called us and told us that we had to pay the total cost of the move, approximately $4,500, which was much more than the initial estimate of $ 2,384. No copy of a bill had been provided and no explanation was given for the increase other than her verbal confirmation that the weight was 4,000 pounds. When asked, she said that the goods would be delivered on August 8, 2020 and that the driver of the truck would contact us in advance, which he did not. We were concerned about the increase in the bill amount and asked for clarification. Mike Milligan called, but he was unable to provide any answers. We then communicated with Branch Manager Barry Yanta, who redirected us back to Mike MIlligan, who never gave us an answer for the poor estimate. To get our goods back we had to pay. We agreed to pay “under protest”, but asked for a re-weighing because of the discrepancy between the quote and the final cost. The weight was accurate, but the initial estimate was clearly very poor (the only explanation we received from the CEO, John Novak, was that Mike Milligan is 80 years old). Barry Yanta informed us AFTER the company asked to be paid, that there was water damage to our goods. He said that the damage seemed minimal, which we later found it was not. We made an insurance claim with Allied, which required us to itemize each damaged good. The quote was over $ 4,000 in damages. We agreed to receive $ 3800 as a bulk payment rather than to submit receipts for each item within a month. We were satisfied with Allied’s handling of the insurance claim, but were unhappy with Sheffield and we asked them what they would do for us. John Novak informed us that the issues with the move were uncommon and that Sheffield would offer further compensation, the damaged door would be repaired, and we would receive a bottle of wine. John Novak offered us $2000 as a goodwill gesture. I had to make several calls before this happened. We appreciated this gesture, but found that it required us to be persistent (more than we would have liked to have been) to receive the cheque. A new door was installed in January 2021. He offered a bottle of wine, which never arrived, though, was honestly not something we cared about, but is an example of the lack of follow through with promises. I hope that this company takes more responsibility in their business practice. We are displeased with and surprised by this experience. We will never use their services again and strongly urge others stay away as well. I would not ask for this moving company in the future even if they offered to move us for free.

My wife and I have moved 12 times: some were local - Nepean to Munster Hamlet; some were interprovincial - Ottawa to Winnipeg; some were cross-country - Whitehorse to Ottawa. Our last (we certainly hope so) move with Sheffield was the best move we’ve ever had. There is no hidden magic to what makes a great move. The fundamentals are known by everyone. What made this move great for us was attitude. Barry was great. He was there to answer our questions. If we needed something, he went out of his way to make sure we got it. And, even after we had finished the move, he was still there helping out and making sure the transition to our new location went smoothly. Junior and Val were the real stars of the show. They were polite, courteous and well-aware that moving is stressful. Their work ethic was outstanding. If there was something that needed doing, they made sure it got done. In fact, everyone we dealt with from Sheffield was professional, polite and courteous. Does this mean that everything was perfect? Of course not. We’re talking about moving hundreds of pieces weighing thousands of pounds over hundreds of miles and things happen no matter what precautions are taken. Anyone who has ever moved more than a couple of times knows that. What matters is the response. Sheffield demonstrated that they care about the people they are moving, before, during and after the move. I would definitely recommend you consider Sheffield for your next move.
