Rather than offer a fixed date on which payment is due, this company requires payment on the same day of the week every four weeks. When your work involves being on the road, that can be very hard to keep track of. When I initially rented the storage unit, I requested to receive an email letting me know when payment would be due, as I made them aware I was going to be outside the country. They told me they would be more than happy to oblige and took my email.
Then, over the course of the next several months, I would receive "payment past due" notices on occasions when I missed the dates money was owed. Not once did I ever receive notice that a due date was coming up, as I had requested. Therefore, I was forced to pay late fees. After this happened a couple of times, I contacted the company when I returned to Canada and asked why they were always letting me know after the fact.
As it turned out, the email they were using to send me notices that payment was coming due had been entered incorrectly, but, for whatever reason, my correct address was being used when they would send the past due notices.
When Tina, the representative, discovered the error, she offered no apology whatsoever and made no attempt to make it right by either refunding my late fees or discounting any future rent. She basically made me feel like I was just some delinquent, who doesn't know how to pay his bills on time.
If the company charged me my rental fee on a fixed date each month, any failure to pay by that date would be on me. However, when a company promises to provide a service to make you aware you owe them money by a certain date because said date shifts every month, then I think it is right to expect - at the very least - an apology when they fail to live up to their promise.
Send your business elsewhere. Terrible customer service.
