I just got off the phone with a “manager” regarding a move I had on Saturday. I was moving out of a (very small) 2 bedroom apartment. I had all of my items packed and staged in the front area by the door. They didn’t have to move any furniture aside from: 2 dressers, a trunk, a tv stand, a mattress, a set of split box springs, a book shelf and a chair. From my front door it was a clear path to the elevator which was on service which then went to the basement, out one set of doors and up the ramp. A move that I did with 2 others and only took 3 hours took these 19 year old “professional movers” 4 hours. When we arrived to the new location the unload should have taken 30 minutes max. It was down the ramp, down 5 stairs, a meter to the left and bingo the staging area (mud room area in an open concept 1 bedroom apartment). They stretched this unloading into 2 hours. My apartment included a sectional couch, hutch and dining set (so this items were not moved or brought in by the movers as they were already there). My friend who recommended this company was there at the new apartment and could not believe how long it was taking. ...when I called today stating I had photo evidence of how little I own, and asked that a representative be sent to evaluate how little time the unloading should’ve taken I was told not only is that something they are unwilling to do but also that I was at fault because I signed the receipt without comment. ...if you hire these movers despite the bad reviews my recommendation is to not sign the receipt. And if some nice well meaning teenagers show up to send them away at request a team in their 30s.

This is one of the worst moving services I have used. Despite the consumer choice award and some positive evaluations of their services online, I had an exceptionally poorly organized moved despite packing my belongings myself prior to the move. They contacted me the evening prior to the move asking for a delay (3 pm). We negotiated a later time then I had scheduled (noon) but they nevertheless arrived at the time they first asked for. They refused to park their truck, took long breaks, the supervisor yelled at me on the phone when I reported my concern, they damaged possessions, the movers accepted some responsibility for the damaged and begged me not to report it while the customer services denied responsibility for the damage. On top of this, they underestimated their time by 50%.

I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of work and care of the guys from Metropolitan Movers Ottawa. I got a phone call a day before the move with the reminder and one hour window for guys to show up. Their movers came in exactly on time and started working. They were very careful and thorough packing stuff. They had to disassemble a lot of furniture, which they did very fast and professional. In our new house the access to the second floor was through narrow and long stairs. Guys moved all the stuff without any marks on the walls. Overall I was very impressed by their work and would highly recommend them.

This is the worst moving company. DO NOT USE THEM to move your belongings whatsoever. They showed up 3 hours late. They didn’t use any proctective equipment & the actual movers are third party people who look like they have never done a move before. I cannot stress enough how terrible the overall experience was. They arrived 2.25 hours late for pick-up on a very time sensitive delivery. Their disregard for our clients need is costing our customer thousands of dollars per hour. I do not recommend anyone using this moving company. I booked my move weeks in advance- a one bedroom in downtown Ottawa (with NO living room furniture) to somewhere about a 15 minute drive away. The afternoon before my move, they called to say they'll be coming 30mins early, to which I said no repeatedly because I didn't have the elevator booked for that time. The man on the phone raised his voice at me, saying they had to. He then told me I should get a third guy to help with the move, and when I asked if there was a price difference, he replied "Well yeah, it's an extra guy!" in the most condescending tone. I ended up agreeing to a third team member because a one bedroom apartment move with no living room furniture shouldn't take long with three guys. The day of my move, they showed up 30mins early (originally agreed to 9am, changed to 830am, they came at 8am) and argued with me about street parking and how if they get a ticket, I have to pay for it. Packing my things into their truck took 2.5 hours with three guys, an elevator I managed to get on service as soon as they got there luckily, and them being right at the corner of my building. It then took 2 hours to unload the van. The majority of the time, team members were only carrying one thing at a time by hand. They wouldn't use their dolly / any equipment to move things despite being asked multiple times, and one team member stayed in the van for 99% of the move (the same team member who repeatedly raised his voice at me for no reason then said the reason it took them so long is because the hallway my unit was located on was long). I had all boxes already stacked for them, heaviest on bottom, to use a dolly to pick them up and carry them out. You can clearly tell they didn't pay close attention when packing them into the van as many of the tops of boxes were crushed, so they put the heavy ones on top. They also carried boxes on their side, even ones marked fragile and dishes (and yes, things broke). They also damaged the entire front of my desk and yelled at me, called their boss who also yelled, when it was pointed out. I've used a different professional movers company before (to move me into the downtown unit with a much longer drive between it and the original place) and I had an entire living room of furniture at the time. It cost $400 with two guys and took 4 hours. This move had 3 guys, much less furniture/boxes, and took 4.5 hours. They originally tried charging me over $900 because they literally snuck in additional charges no one had ever mentioned to me or asked me about. I ended up getting about $50 taken off, though it should have been much more. This move was far longer, more stressful, and incredibly more costly than it should have been due to the team members and company being unprofessional with timing, constantly yelling at me, sneaking in unrelated/unnecessary costs and ripping me off, and damaging my belongings. **EDIT to the owner's response, as I can't respond to it directly: -There was no discount for my move and no compensation provided. The $50 off was because your team tried charging me $150 for the truck when it was agreed, in writing, to be $100. That isn't a discount, it's the agreed on amount. -I don't understand how Wed, Aug 5, at 8am is the busiest time for your company when most people move on weekends, especially the long weekend that would have just occurred. -As I continue unpacking, more things are broken / damaged because many things were mishandled / boxes carried on their sides / boxes improperly stacked. -In apologies, it's best to apologize for the wrongdoing, provide any applicable solutions, and what you'll do differently in the future as opposed to stating excuses and falsehoods (such as saying I received discounts/compensation when I did not). Even this apology is unprofessional.

I am so glad I never read these reviews before arranging for Metropolitan Movers to move my home contents. My experience was completely different from other reviews on this page. They packers did everything I would have expected. they were courteous, friendly and careful. I had no issue with any of the team. They delivered when they said they would at the agreed time with no damage to my stuff...and most importantly for the agreed price.

This will be a long review, but I hope it saves the time and money for anyone considering using Metropolitan Movers. Long story short, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF MOVING WITHIN THE OTTAWA AREA. Movers are supposed to help alleviate some stress from the large task of moving out. I had looked through Metropolitan Movers website and saw the various awards they had received and felt confident in this company. My mistake, was not reading the reviews more thoroughly. My experience begins with the scheduled time to be on a Friday morning with the promise of a confirmation call prior to the date. Thursday at 1:30pm, I had yet to hear from the company, so I called to confirm. At 3:30pm, the owner, Johnny, calls me asking to confirm my details that I had already done two hours ago. They then had decided to take it upon themselves to add an additional mover (yes you pay extra) without asking me if this is what I requested. My online confirmation said 2 movers, so I felt pretty uneasy the company was already trying to add to my invoice before the move day. Come Friday morning, I waited for the 1 hour grace period (my time slot was 9am), and the movers never showed up. I then called asking about when the movers would arrive and I was told there were truck issues causing a delay but that the movers would guaranteed be at my location between 11am-12pm. In addition, I was promised a phone call form the movers 30 min prior to their arrival. 12pm arrives. No call, and still no movers. I call the number again and am told "They never called you?" I then was informed the movers were just leaving from St Laurent now and would arrive in 35 min, and that I would be called by them. 1pm arrives. No movers and no call. I reach out again and after me now being very aggravated and upset, have been told the movers are arriving and will call me. Notice the pattern? 1:15pm. Movers arrived and had finally called me. Please note that I was the one who reached out several times and not ONCE did I receive an apology from anyone (the actual customer service was very disappointing considering the "awards" received). I then called the owner to tell him I will not pay full price for the move and not because the truck broke down, but due to the poor customer service and lack of communication between the company and the consumer. I was promised a discount by Johnny the Ottawa Franchise owner. I inquire about the broken down truck and the 2 men (movers) told me "There was no issue with the truck, we were just told to show up and that you were waiting. How long have you been waiting for us?" Once the move is complete I am told by these men that their owner Johnny frequently overbooks the 9am slot and will purposely screw someone over and claim it's a truck incident to avoid liability. When speaking with Johnny over the phone, he said I would receive a 10% discount. When it came time to run my credit card, they ran the FULL amount. I was then informed by the movers that I will need to "be on Johnny" because he will not refund me the money if I let it slide. Upon calling Johnny minutes after the transaction was run, I was told he would be returning to the office and would fix the amount. Move on to Tuesday, I call Johnny and he says he'll "etransfer" me right away. Of course, this does not happen and is also EXTREMELY unprofessional to do. At the end of the day, the Ottawa franchise owner comes off as nothing but a sleazy money hungry man who does not have any consideration for his customers. Please never waste your time and using this company, and I think it's important for corporate to be made aware of what one of their franchise owners are doing and how he is tainting the company and its values. I will also be filing with the Better Business Bureau.

????Ignored a few reg flags with unprofessional telephone communication, answered phones by just saying, “hello” instead of something like “metropolitan movers” I had to confirm that I was in fact calling “metropolitan movers”, small detail but sometimes things seem suspicious because they in fact are. Booked a move anyway 2.5 weeks in advance. Received a confirmation email, order number etc. seemed legitimate. Day before expected maybe a check-in call, never came but it was just after Christmas and given the previous phone communications I thought this was par for the course. Move was booked for 9am, with two elevators booked for two condos, so a time sensitive move. 9:30am rolls around, no movers. I call, they say “they’re a few minutes away.” Fifteen minutes goes by, still no movers. I call back and now they tell me they didn’t have my move booked, they could send me a confirmation saying they didn’t have it booked. So, a blank email? After some heated discourse, they tell me a team will come between 12-1, they will send an extra mover so it’ll go much quicker and they will offer me a discount. The “team” came- let me tell you this is my third time hiring movers- arriving in sneakers, puffers coats and little to no equipment ????. They arrived at 1:45, they were extremely slow (probably from completing an earlier move) took them 5 1/2 hours to move a 1 bedroom apt to 1 bedroom apt 2.5km away. I ended up having to move things myself along with my 73 year old father. Lost my security deposit in my building due to some damage from the move as well as a marble table was damaged due to lack of proper moving equipment. Their “insurance” doesn’t cover that. Then comes the $$ gauge that “discount” was “we’ll knock off 1/2 hour from move and charge $60/hr more for an additional mover”. Now if the additional mover had resulted in fact a quicker move, sure maybe it was worth it, but it took nearly twice the time and I hadn’t agreed to pay that premium (and keep in mind I’ve done this move twice before with almost identical situations). In the end I ended up paying $115/h x 5hrs + truck rental fee, taxes, tip and bought the movers lunch. I felt very ripped off. the one upswing is nearly none of my things were damaged (likely due to the care I put into packing and wrapping my things) but should that be the bare minimum one expects from a moving company? Would NEVER recommend (but I think you could have figured that one out on your own).

I had the best experience with Metropolitan Movers! After being accepted on a short sale, I frantically started looking for a moving company. So many had hidden surcharges and fees. When I would find something that MAY work, they couldn't get me in for weeks. I only had a few days! Thankfully I came across MMO. They were able to schedule me the next day. The workers were all friendly and considerate. They took such extreme care in handling my items. They even stayed slightly over the time estimated just to make sure everything was situated. I cannot recommend them enough!

Terrible company did not show up at 3 I called and was told they were delayed and would come between 4-5 and again they did not show up. after multiple calls and texts messages was told the truck broke down. This company has left me stranded and now I am forced to find a truck and move on my own at the last min. It’s hard to believe this company is part of the Canadian moving association. I booked my moving date over a month ahead of time. A week before my move date I received a call from the company asking me to move my date from a Saturday to a Sunday. I declined. The night before the move date I got another call telling me that they would not be able to start the move at 9am as it was booked because they were waiting on a bigger truck to arrive. The dispatcher also suggested that he send 3 men as it would be a quicker move...and of course it would cost me more. They wouldn't be able to start my move until 1pm. This turned out to be a lie. They arrived around 145pm and started moving stuff at 2pm. I then found out that the reason that they were late was because they had moved another client that morning. The team was already tired from their first move and so they were slow and even took a break to eat pizza in the middle of the move. My husband had to help them load the vehicle. They were taking so long and they were so tired that we ended up leaving some belongings at the house for us to move later just so the movers could get the load to the storage facility and unpack it before night fall. One of the workers used my bathroom and left urine on the seat. I thought that was pretty gross and inconsiderate. I won't use this company again.

Please confirm the arrival time and the start time very sneeky...i specifically ask for the movers to start at 3pm and i even wanted to cancel the move for the next day next thing i was called and told the movers is at my property at 1.50pm and they took 30 minutes to try and put the truck in place when they knew the truck would not fit in the driveway...so it was surely a sneeky move just to get the job and to cause extra time.

Upon arrival, I showed the two movers a particular piece of art I needed them to be extra careful with. This piece was worth a lot and I impressed upon the two men that I wanted them to be extra careful with it. But, they managed to break the glass anyway. This piece was custom framed and cost me a great deal. When it came time to sign the papers when the move was complete, I expressed my displeasure with having to sign a document saying that I was signing off on the conditions of my contents and to pay for the move when the cost of the move was exceeded by the cost of repairing the glass on the art. The movers assured me I should pay for the move and sign the papers and the boss (Haroon) would make right on the broken art. Haroon arrived at our house a few days later to inspect the art himself. There were other issues for the move that cost me more money, but sentimentally, the art was by far the most important part of Metropolitan's mistake. Haroon insisted he would have someone of his choosing fix the art. We refused. When the piece was framed, we had a specific company install a specific type of glass and insisted Haroon pay for the repair of our choice, not some plexiglass knock-off from someone he was probably getting a kick-back from. This was not agreeable to Haroon, he would only agree to fix it if it was his guy. No follow-up, he doesn't care. He already had our money from the move and it didn't matter that we weren't happy with his version of "resolution". I tell everyone who will listen about my poor experience with Metropolitan Movers. Their employees can't be trusted to treat the contents with the respect it deserves even when you point out an item that needs specific care. That being said, we all know accidents happen and we paid out of our own pocket to have the glass replaced on our art. The least that should happen is that the owner make things right. Stay away from businesses who believe their actions are without consequences.

Update September- Company will only follow-up if you leave a negative review. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are unprofessional and still haven't fixed the damage they caused. BEWARE! Update October- Company has yet to fix the damage from August and is continuing to give me the run around. Johnny the owner never answers his phone and his voicemail is always full. While the people were nice enough, this was the most overpriced move I have ever experienced. The move consisted of: a buffet, an Ikea glass display cabinet, a sectional that comes apart, 3 mattresses, 3 ikea bed frames that required disassembly, 3 dressers, 2 night stands, a couch, love seat, 2 bar stools and a large rug. This took 3 movers 8 hours! From 8am to 4pm,at an hourly rate of $149. To note, no furniture was assembled upon final delivery. I found time was wasted, either too slow moving or too much standing around. I'm sorry to say I would not recommend this company. I can't understand how they have the star rating that they do.

Worst experience with a moving company!! I can't believe all the reviews here. Crew arrived almost 2 hours late and notified me that they go for lunch (mid afternoon). 45 minutes later, they came and were very loud, complained about everything and were making comments about the contents. Except a screwdriver they had no tools with them. For moving the contents of a studio to another studio they took over 3 hours!!!! I moved these contents twice before, and it only took 1.5 hours each time. They were taking a break after each small box they took to the truck. I would NEVER recommend them.

Do not hire them! Expensive and unprofessional. The movers came unprepared. They had no straps, tools, covers or even gloves. Above all, the truck was not big enough. They knew what they were moving. It was written in the contract. They had no experience and it took them an hour to move the fridge. They ruined the fridge, damaged the washing mashine, damaged the living room furniture, etc. Their insurance is bad and their complaint service too. Nobody answers.

I was looking for a company that was dealing with office relocation. Luckily, Metropolitan Movers Ottawa gladly helped me with that! they not only moved everything completely intact, but also re-assembled some of the furniture for better transportation! Splendid job!

Worst moving company ever!! Just a few remarks of the experience: - I called the franchise in Oakville (I was moving to Oakville), but for some reason the call was redirected to the Brampton location, which I was not aware of until the day of the move, too late already. - The guys showed up late and wasted half an hour parking, yet I was billed for that time. - The house had brand new carpets and they walked right in with their dirty shoes on. They didn't even attempt to clean them up, or at least put a cover on their shoes, nothing. - They promised wardrobe boxes and I called to reconfirm the day before, and yet they forgot to bring them, so I had to pack up all the clothes in my car and make two extra trips, also because they left/forgot paintings on the walls. - The guys, one in particular, smelled like they didn't had a shower in months and as they were going up and down, the whole house was stinking, to the point that I had to stay behind and open up all the windows to let the air out. - They didn't wrap-up the furniture properly and the couches got all scratched up and one of them was ripped because they were not careful enough to remove the cushions before pushing the couch through the door. They kept pushing like animals until I had to stop them. - When I complained to the manager Haroon, he only said that it's was a "normal" accident that nobody would notice. - Complete lack of professionalism, lack of training, lack of responsibility and work ethics. I can keep going on and on, but with these few pearls you get the idea of how these guys operate. Protect your assets and stay away from these moving company.

COMPLETELY USELESS. Who knows who wrote the other reviews, but they didn't have these guys move them! The subcontractors they sent were not moving professionals. I doubt they had ever moved anyone before. They couldn't even park the truck competently. My friend hired them to move her this past weekend. They showed up a half-hour late, then immediately one took a 'bathroom break' while the other talked on the phone for 20 mins. Imagine you are a single girl standing there being rudely ignored in your own home! Though they didn't speak English, she tried her best to keep them moving, eventually resorting to setting the pace by example and loading what she could herself. After taking 3 hours to load (it should have taken 2 hours max as she was well prepared, having done this several times by now), she called us in for backup to unload, because it was obvious these guys were trying to move as slowly as possible to extend the hours. When we got there we sat in my car and watched the 'moving pros' try to back the truck up for a half hour before they gave up. They were doing it wrong. No other way to say it. In the end 6 girls and my 'lucky' boyfriend basically moved her stuff into the new place. The labour guys were 150 lbs soaking wet, and had no problems letting us do all the lugging and heavy lifting. We had to have someone in the truck handing down boxes to them or they would pick the lightest thing within reach. A girl would grab three boxes, one of these guys would grab a couch cushion. I wish I was exaggerating. I don't know if they were polite or not because they didn't speak English. Nothing was damaged because, well, WE moved it. In the end they charged her for the truck separate from the labour, but at the same rate. All very fishy. They also charged a 20% tax, when we could find nothing to show moving has a higher HST rate than the provincial 13% . The guy really didn't like having to break down the cost. My gf paid them, and then they hung around for 20 minutes stinking up her new living room, cause their boss wasn't answering the phone for some authorization number or another they apparently didn't need, cause they all of a sudden got up and left. While there was a section at the bottom of the agreement for comments, my gf was afraid to make any, lest they lose their jobs and come back to attack her. Great vibe to have from people you are supposed to trust in your homes with your belongings. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

The San

Staff were very nice and were on time. Coordinator was also very available. Other than that, I wish I could say something positive about this company. Excruciatingly slow. Packers did not communicate with movers, causing so much delay. Terrible packing. I had to tell them to wrap everything and to write down content/room on each box. Movers fought in public. OMG so slow. Almost seemed like the movers did not want to work. No masks. No floor covering. We paid $2500 and honestly this move was not worth more than $1000. So much time wastage and zero accountability. On purpose they would go 1 or 2 minutes over the hour and charge an extra 1/2 hour. Just terrible. Do yourself a favour and call any other company. Can't see how a moving company can get any worse.

I am very disappointed with this company. They are unprofessional and they lie to you. They damaged my mirror which I purchased for $400 . There is a big dent on my washer and they scratched my fridge. Please who ever is reading this Don't Go with this Company. I wanted to speak to the supervisor but they dont response and never apologized for what they have done. DON'T Go With This company. You will regret it.

We moved with this company and they showed up 6 hours earlier than scheduled and then insisted they were charging us from the time they showed up instead of our scheduled time. We weren't ready and weren't even home when they arrived but they still made us pay despite it being their mistake. They damaged several items of our including cracking a TV, breaking the front off the dyer and then also scratched several other pieces of furniture. We tried to get them covered under their insurance but never had any luck getting any of the damages covered. The people they sent to move us were smoking cannabis on their breaks between handling our belongings. The worst was they didn't bring a truck big enough for the move and we ended up paying more to rent a uhaul to move it ourselves! We paid well over $3,000 for the move, horrible service.
