We did an adventure elopement back in September in Yoho, National Park. Darren came along with us and 8 of our closest friends/family for three days. Darren was fantastic! He went above and beyond to capture memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives. He was professional, adaptable (given the pandemic), and most of all fit right in with our group. He ensured the minor, and some of the most important details, were perfect on our big day. We were extremely lucky to find a photographer who would carry more than his own weight through 23 kms of mountain hiking so we could get married in one of our favourite places. We are extremely thrilled we were able to have the wedding of our dreams, in the middle of nowhere, captured so perfectly.

We did an Elopement wedding at Emerald Lake in Field B.C. My wife began Googling different wedding photographers in the area, and came across Darren Roberts through the work he had advertised. She was hooked from the outset, and basically demanded that he was to be the photographer for our day. We reached out to him, and organized to speak via phone in order to finalize the details and provide information about what we wanted from our day. Darren was great, and we could tell straight away he wasn’t keen on doing the ‘standard’ wedding style photo shoot. We were glad as we didn’t want that either. He advised he was happy to do whatever we wanted, but stated he would love to get out on the road and shoot in as many scenic locations as possible, instead of doing the 'standard' wedding photos. We loved hearing this, and was the main reason for us eloping in the first place. I must mention however, no matter what the style of wedding one would decide on Darren can do it all. Prior to the wedding ceremony, I was out walking our dog while my wife got her hair/make-up done. I saw a gentleman walking around the lodge taking what looked to be more professional style photos of the area. I thought it may have been Darren (seen photos on his profile etc) but didn't want to ask in case I looked stupid. Turns out it was Darren, and he had arrived early in order to shoot photos of the location prior to the ceremony. These photos were also provided to us. We had a mild issue with my wife's hair, as she ordered a floral crown, but it was too big compared to her head, and it stole the show from her hair style. Darren even assisted with the hair stylist by stating we should just remove flowers from the crown and add it to my wife's braids, which we ended up doing. And it looked great. Throughout the entire ceremony, Darren managed to capture not only the ceremony elements, but extras including close-ups of our dog with my wife blending in behind him, and nice moments where we were smiling at each other during the ceremony. Afterwards, I went to change attire, and away we went to shoot locations around Field and Alberta. We went to the following locations: - Emerald Lake. - Natural Bridge, Yoho National Park. - Bow Lake. - Dried Up River Bed (Darren's hidden location). - Peyto Lake Lookout Hike. - Rocky Outcrop off the Hwy in AB. We managed to shoot all these locations on top of 2 hours of pre and post ceremony shoots. Overall on this experience, Darren was so nice, sweet, approachable, friendly, humble and dedicated that the whole day seemed like you were just going for a hike with your friends. Darren drove us around, we didn't have to pose for endless minutes, and he was very considerate to my wife and her dress issues when they arose. Overall, the experience was better than we could ever have expected. Most of all, we were stress free on the day that most people endure countless stressful moments. We'd like to thank Darren again for providing the best 8 hr photography experience, and for just being a genuinely nice guy. We received our photos less than 1 month after our wedding, which is crazy quick, considering most people have to wait 6-12 months. Recommendations: Minimum 8 hr photo shoot. If your a demanding self absorbed princess/groom, this experience isn't for you. Attend, enjoy the day and just go with the flow!!!! Thanks Darren. Brad & Jess

Wow - Darren Roberts, where do I start! I honestly can not say enough amazing things about you!! I have followed Darren’s work for the past few years, and I immediately knew I had to use him when it was our time!! Darren’s work is just so RAW and real and untouchable. Its perfection. From the first phone calls, to meeting him for the first time at the Heli pad on our wedding morning, it felt he was a long time friend! He is very easy going and also very professional. On behalf of my husband and myself, we cannot thank Darren enough for being apart of our day and taking the most incredible photos! Darren’s positive energy was exactly what I needed when our commissioner from Urban Officiant did not show up. Imagine how heartbroken, upset, embarrassed, frustrated, and disappointed I was when Levi (our commissioner) did not appear on our wedding day. Darren immediately tried to find a solution and made the best of the worst situation. My happy ever disaster ended up being a glimpse of heaven when we took Rockies Heli to a beautiful location. We truly do not even know where to begin in this review - my Husband and I are so incredibly thankful for Darren and his tremendous talent. When we got engaged at Christmas we decided almost immediately to elope and knew we wanted it to happen on our 10 year anniversary just a short 5 months away. We wanted our elopement to truly reflect who we were as individuals as well as who we are and what we love as a couple and Darren captured exactly that! When we started looking for vendors I found these stunning photos on Instagram which lead me to Darren's website and Instagram page - and we were sold. After reading about him, his blog posts and staring at his Instagram photos we knew that we wanted Darren to capture our day. His love for exploring, his knowledge of the mountains and out of the box thinking is what sold us beyond his undeniable talent. He was the only photography we reached out to, and the day he got back to us and said he was available to shoot our elopement we knew we were going to have an amazing adventure to remember. We had an initial call with Darren to talk about our ideas, what we wanted, the process and our overall goal for the day. After that phone call we knew we had made a great decision; he had so many ideas, such knowledge and a passion that evident the second you talk to him. We decided to have a Heli elopement with Rockies Heli and then extend our photography session to do some great adventuring. We trusted Darren, his experience and expertise and trusted that he would take us on a grand adventure. We knew we didn't want to shoot in the typical Rocky Mountain / Banff / Lake Louise locations, we wanted something different and unique and Darren truly delivered. We didn't actually meet Darren until minutes before we took off in the Helicopter and it was like running into an old friend. He was so kind, friendly and it felt like we had all known each other forever; there were never any awkward or uncomfortable moments. The entire time we were shooting, whether it was at the top of a mountain in snow, across a mountain range, in a canyon following directions by charades instead of words Darren helped to make our day the most memorable day we've ever had. He had the most unique shooting locations, we was so encouring and made us feel so comfortable and relaxed (which is a feat in itself for us both in front of a camera) the entire time. We were so excited for this adventure and when Darren was getting excited about the shots he was taking we got even more excited - he was so passionate and easy to work with. We knew we were going to get some great photos but when we got our entire album back in just over three weeks we were blown away; it was like reliving the day all over again!! I feel like we could go on a rave about Darren forever, but I think all the positive testimonies and his work truly do speak for themselves. He will always go above and beyond to get the best shot and make the best memories no matter what the plan is. Hiring Darren to shoot our elopement was the best decision we made and we cannot thank him enough for the memories that we'll have forever!

Darren was absolutely amazing. Through the process of choosing a photographer Darren was so patient and answered all of our questions. His photos are absolutely stunning so we were beyond thrilled when he said he was free for our Elopement. The day went so smoothly. We had a small elopement in Banff and the day was absolutely FREEZING. Darren brought me a hand warmer for my bouquet and made sure we had time to warm up and were not freezing through the whole day. He took us to some of the most beautiful places in Banff for our photos. I knew the photos would be great, but when we received them back from him I was blown away. It was so fun looking through them and re-living the day, and seeing moments that we missed the first time around that Darren caught on camera. I would highly recommend Darren as a photographer- you will not be disappointed!

When my husband and I were looking for an elopement photographer, we stumbled upon Darren's work and instantly knew we had to book with him. Every step of the process from getting in contact with him, to squaring away the details, to the logistics of the day was made easy because he is a true professional. He even offered advice and promptly answered any questions we had regarding our trip, even the non-elopement parts. Meeting him for the first time on elopement day was really like greeting an old friend. He has a great talent for making people feel at ease, even when it can feel awkward posing for pictures!! We really appreciated the way he gave very clear direction and knew what would look good in photos, and still contributed to making the day feel special and organic. For our vows, Darren took us to a little secluded clearing with gorgeous mountain views, and it was PERFECT. That set of photos turned out to be my favorite because he so expertly captured the raw emotions in absolutely stunning photography. Though really, EVERY SINGLE PHOTO was beautiful. Our friends and family have all really enjoyed the online wedding gallery Darren provided, and have also all remarked on the breathtaking images. If you have any uncertainty regarding whether or not to choose him to photograph your special day, don't!!!!! He's absolutely wonderful, and we really can't sing his praises enough!

Darren photographed my wedding In September at Emerald Lake Lodge and there are no words I could possibly use to express how magnificent the pictures turned out to be. We chose to have him for the full day (I would strongly recommend this option) so we could have our story captured from start to finish. Having beautiful pictures to last a lifetime was the most important thing to us as a couple. After looking at a lot of photographers, when I saw Darren's work, I knew we had to choose him. He took the time to get to know me over the phone to understand my vision for the day of and talk about what would work best for us. On the day of, he made us feel so comfortable from the moment we met him. He was able to give us tips about the way our bodies were coming across in the photos to ensure each one looked natural and organic, avoiding the dreaded "junior prom pose". It was important to us that we also capture the beauty of the mountains and the surrounding area. He took us to 4 different spots (!) to take pictures and the result was nothing short of incredible. We had pictures at Emerald Lake, on the natural bridge over Kicking Horse River, in a moss covered forest floor that looked like somewhere straight out of a fairy-tale, and on top of a mountain. I am certain that absolutely no one else would be able to give me what he did. From the minute (gorgeous close up shots with a lot of detail) to the magnificent (cinematic, sweeping landscape pictures). My husband and I agree that securing his services for our wedding day was the best decision we made. I feel so lucky to have these pictures that will last forever. I encourage anyone who is getting married to contact him immediately to secure your day!

It's taken me awhile to write this review because I've been racking my brain for words that would do Darren justice. Darren is simply AaaaaaMAZING!!!! He went above and beyond as a photographer; creating an experience for us that we will truly cherish for the rest of our lives. When me and my husband first decided to Elope we knew we wanted to have nature involved and after scrolling through Pinterest we came across a photo that Darren had taken of another couple. We looked him up and read about his bio. He seemed like an amazing passionate photographer and after the first time we spoke to him it sealed the deal. He was personable, offered lots of thoughts to our concerns as to when and exactly where in Banff. The day of, I met him 5 mins before we did the first photo but it was like meeting an old friend. We felt comfortable throughout the whole session and he was super patient with my dog who was freaked out by all the new surroundings & people (we're from California). We had also booked the helicopter session through Rockies Heli Canada after reading about it on his website. Because Darren has worked with them so much in the past I think Heli's was a little more flexible with how long we stayed out and where we landed. It was 15 degrees up there at 10,000 ft, but Darren knew exactly how many shots we could get before getting warmed up again in the helicopter. He provided us with hand-warmers and again despite the cold truly made it feel like a grand adventure. Before our day ended Darren printed on a mini portable printer a few little Polaroids for us to take, that was super awesome giving us a glimpse of the photos to come. A few days following our session Darren reached out to us letting us know that an Instagram story was picked up by Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine in Canada and wanted to use some of the photos he had taken of us. If that's not a testament to the amazing quality of photos he took I don't know what is. Congrats Darren & THANK YOU SO MUCH for memories we will cherish forever.

My wife and I hired Darren for a session while we were in Banff National Park for our 5-year anniversary. When discussing locations, Darren mentioned that he had some places that he had been wanting to use and asked if we'd be up for a bit of a drive from the town of Banff. We were all about taking a good drive through the beautiful mountains. Darren picked us up and was an awesome tour guide as we headed up towards the Columbia Icefields. We stopped at a few spots off the road on the way and each stop got more and more beautiful. It was obvious that Darren had scouted and prepared for our session. Which spoke volumes to us. During the session, Darren made us extremely comfortable which, as photographers ourselves, we understand how difficult that can be sometimes, while also trying to watch for the best light and locations to use. The entire session was a wonderful experience. When we received the images, we were blown away. We had been there in person and yet we still couldn't believe how beautiful it all was. Darren gave us exactly what we want and more!

He was so much fun and enthusiastic. Very professional to work with. We eloped and had specific ideas of what we wanted done. Of course, weather in October in the mountains can be highly unpredictable and we got snow. He turned our pictures into a winter wonderland of breathtaking shots. I know of no other photographer that wears full hiking gear so he can climb up the mountains to get an incredible shot. Darren. Is. Incredible. We did a hike in wedding in October and stayed two nights in a backcountry hut. He made the entire experience remarkable, we could not have done it without him. He was our photographer, guide, and coordinator all in one. He woke up early every morning to location scout. He gave us the jacket off his back and the gaiters off his feet, whatever was needed. He helped us pull a super heavy wagon up steep hills. He gave us input and advice and he made our wedding day PERFECT. Not just the day of, but the whole trip. He even made it snow! Just kidding Mother Nature did that but he would’ve if he could’ve. He was professional and kind. He made us feel comfortable, safe, and natural in front of the camera. Always willing to hold the bouquet, carry my backpack, watch our backs while following bear tracks, and putting himself between us and a cliff ledge. Where do we even begin...Darren is absolutely the best photographer we could have asked for on our wedding day. When we decided to do a heli elopement with Rockies Heli it was a no brainer to also have Darren photograph the day. His relationship with the pilots means we got to go to some incredible places that others don't get to fly to. We wanted to do something different for our elopement and on his recommendation, we decided on a helicopter flight with a mountaintop stop. What an unforgettable experience! We wanted a last minute elopement and Darren really helped facilitate it. We hired him as a photographer but he also assisted us in picking the park to have our small ceremony in, gave suggestions for a back up plan in case it rained and also provided general tips about Canmore. On the day of the wedding Darren was very professional. He showed up early, was very easy to chat with and knew when to step back and give us space. After the ceremony and some group photos, my husband and I jumped in Darren's car and he took us to several beautiful locations (all relatively close by) to do additional photos. We could not be happier we chose to work with Darren after COVID cancelled our original (more traditional) wedding plans. Once we made the decision to change our plans, we immediately booked Darren and I am so grateful we did. We found Darren through Instagram and instantly fell in love with his adventurous style and his ability to capture each moment. We knew right away that it was the perfect fit for us and that we wanted him to be a part of our small destination wedding in Iceland. We had such an amazing time with Darren, and it was an experience that we'll hold on to for a very long time - his sense of adventure is so evident and contagious and on top of that he produced some of the most stunning images that went way beyond our expectations. Darren was our photographer for our November 2016 outdoor winter elopement in the mountains and we cannot say enough good things about our entire experience with him. Our original plan was to do a helicopter elopement up on Lusk Hill in Kananaskis however, a few days before we were set to get married Darren phoned us to let us know that Lusk Hill really hadn’t received enough snow to give us the Winter Wonderland photos we were wanting. He went above and beyond to help us come up with an alternative plan that also met our budget and we could not be more appreciative of that. This really showed us how dedicated Darren is to delivering what his clients want. On our actual wedding day I was blown away by how smoothly everything went. Darren was extremely efficient at capturing our images, which was extremely important in the cold backcountry. He even allowed me to do a dress change (something that other photographers I had contacted would not allow) for a portion of our portrait time. Darren truly has an eye for photographing the Rockies; he was able to give us a ton of variety in our images without making us work too hard (which is a bit tough to do in a wedding dress) to get it! I believe what sets Darren above the rest is not only his top-notch work but how personable he is. We spent 5 hours in total with Darren on our wedding day and it felt like we were just hanging out in the mountains for the day with a friend. I think most couples, when picking a photographer, are so focused on what the photos look like that we forget how important it is to be photographed by someone who makes us feel comfortable in order to capture great images. My husband and I are, at best, awkward and uncomfortable in front of the camera. However, our day with Darren was so fun and relaxed that we didn’t really mind the camera at all. If, on your wedding day, you are looking for someone who truly loves the work they do, who wants deliver the highest quality of work, who is flexible and willing to work with your vision to make it come true, who is down-to-earth, friendly, professional, quick to respond and most importantly, knows the Rockies like the back of his hand, then Darren is the right photographer for you. We hired Darren for our wedding in August 2016 after finding him on Instagram. We loved his adventurous style and his capacity to capture the enormity of the Canadian Rockies. When I first saw Darren’s photos I was excited. He seemed adventurous and off the beaten path, someone who didn’t see the mountains as a tourist destination but like my fiancé and I, home. Our initial request and deposit was met eagerly with a promise to touch base closer to the date. Months ticked by, then it was 2 weeks before the photos I emailed him and I was met with an auto reply that he was busy and nothing else. I ended up calling him a week later in tears, trying to explain I needed to finalize hair and makeup (which I ended up booking the night before and sleeping in out of fear I wouldn’t make it in time). He told me it was a miscommunication on both parts, he saw our email and forgot to reply and not everyone gets hair and makeup (...yes but some do?). I now realize I should have forgone the deposit and cancelled then but trying to give him the benefit of the doubt we kept the date. He promised to call us the night before.....he emailed instead, agreeing to the original plan of a sunrise shoot despite rain. We got there (admittedly a bit behind schedule but with the agreeance in advance to pay for additional time if needed) and he took us to a spot under heavy cloud cover. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, this is where you would hope your photographer would explain to you what he was going for and how he would make it work despite less than ideal weather. Instead he told my fiancé ... “her hair and makeup is done, some people find it important to have blue skies we should just reschedule.” My fiancé agreed and we started to drive away, looking at the movement of the clouds and the forecast we were confused, it should clear, within 5 min we could see the clouds clearing, we tried to call him but he didn’t answer. We waited in Canmore for 2 hours as blue skies came overhead, I was admittedly crushed. When he finally called back he asked us to meet him 30 min in the direction he drove in..right back into the clouds. I laughed a said I bet we end up at square one right under a heavy cover of clouds. Sure enough the new spot was a random spot on the side of the road under dense clouds and in wind once again. We had to ask multiple times to go to a lake near the spot we were at hoping for one good shot. The day was a disaster and I remember more of him asking for medical advice from my fiancé than asking for what we needed to make the day better. On top of all this I should note the topic of helicopter rides and remote locations were brought up multiple times, as posted in the photo below he talks of wanting remote destinations to travel to and new scenery on his Instagram. Darren these days are not for you, they are for the people asking you to provide them memories and moments to remember years past their youth/young love and paying you well to do so. People offering to pay you to join them on adventures is a privilege not a right. Lessons learned: 1) Talk to your photographer, Instagram is their best work and anyone can take a beautiful photo in the Rockies. Ask to see more, ask to see photos of bad days, ask their rainy day plan 2) You can laugh and smile through just about anything, oddly enough it was a day my fiancé and I connected most...even if you spent $1000 + lost wages, personally we managed to get a day together, we have been doing long distance which hasn't normally allowed us and that, and was worth every penny to get to see his face 3) Your friends and family who care will always show up for you (as will people you hardly know), after explaining our experience multiple people offered to try and help us redo the photos for a low cost, if not free (we didn’t take up these offers as we know the value of what a good photographer does and would never accept it for free)
