I have moved many times in my life but using this company was by far the worst experience! I normally don’t do reviews but I feel I owe it to people to warn them about what they are getting into when booking with vanlines. Misquote- I was assured my move wouldn’t cost more than 3,000$ only to find out after the move that the total was 5,000$. They took off 500$ saying it was the best they could do even though they were still billing me for 50% more than quoted. Timing- they told me that someone would be in touch with me to schedule my move within a few days of my call with them and instead it took them two weeks to get back to me regardless of me sending 3 emails to them. This caused me to book my flights way later than when I planned (bc I needed to base it on the move) and therefore I had to pay astronomical fares to fly to my new home. I was told my things would arrive in 10-14 days, but they didn’t arrive for a month. No one answers the phones when you call and it’s impossible to actually reach staff to discuss anything. My TV that their staff packed arrived completely smashed and they told me to contact their claims department. No one has contacted me back about this regardless of my email with photos of the damage and incessant phone calls. If you can book your move with some other company I would.

My move was very stress free right from the initial booking with Maggie to the pickup in Kelowna and delivery in Regina. Juliana was another customer service person I had contact with and she was another excellent person keeping me informed and answered all questions I had eleviating all my concerns I might have had. The driver Devon and Matt were awesome to deal with as well. Very professional and took great care of my belongings. The price quoted was VERY reasonable and bang on at the end. I would highly recommend Numver 1 Movers to anyone who is considering using a moving company to do their move. I would certainly hire them again!

I just moved from Ontario to ottawa and everything went flawless indeed. I am writing this review for all those who are about to relocate, you should give Number 1 movers a chance. The sales representative was very helpful and answered all my questions. He emailed me the estimate cost. On the move day, The foreman arrived on time with his crew and packed all my belongings very professionally and fast. A week later all my items were in y in perfect condition. Thank you Number 1 Moving & Storage for a great job!

We requested a quote from Number 1 and paid the deposit and secured our move date. Two weeks until our move and we haven't heard ANYTHING from anyone at Number 1. We tried emailing (they don't have email addresses you can reply to), we tried calling (multiple times and multiple numbers listed), and we completely got ghosted. This company took our deposit and hasn't responded to us. We have since booked at another long-distance moving company who let us know that Number 1 is actually a broker, and they outsource your move to another company and don't tell you. The new company also let us know that it is illegal to take a deposit on a long-distance move. Don't use this moving company and make the same mistake! There are far more professional companies who have actual contact information and are dedicated to providing quality customer service.

Everyone has been so helpful, from our first contact who explained things clearly. To the two contacts who set our pick up time and answered questions to the 2 fellows who packed and moved our possessions. They texted about there arrival time and arrived when they said they would. Told to have a 10% student discount that's why I made the deposit. After the move I was charged without the discount, called up customer service only to be told that "we can't give you the discount because we're not making money." Guess who'll be bringing this up in the McMaster student Community?

Today we had Number 1 Movers move my mother-in-law out of her home that she had been in for 40 years. She was a bit nervous about the whole thing. These guys made everything go so smoothly without a hitch. The guys that showed up were the most polite, friendliest, hard working movers I have ever dealt with. So much care was taken with everything, from covering the floors, wrapping the furniture (everything) to placing everything exactly as we wanted it. I've never left a review in my life. My move was "completed" on Saturday with stuff missing including a piece of furniture (from my deceased grandparents). I've asked for the team to call me and it's almost EOD here in B.C. and I can't seem to get a phone call from the team. The entire service post-sales has been unprofessional. Hopefully Google will allow me to leave a second review as I'd like to provide more details, but right now I'd just like the company's attention...Someone get on the phone and call me. As someone whose managed Customer Services teams it's evident your team doesn't care about the quality of service, or experience. DO NOT BOOK THIS MOVING COMPANY!

We had an interesting (overall very positive) experience with Number 1 Movers moving from Toronto to Vancouver, so will try and break down this review into a few components: 1) The quote/estimate and booking process: arranging the move with Number 1 Movers was very easy. They have a pretty slick quote-generating web app and helpful sales people who seem to know their stuff pretty well. That said, our quote ballooned a fair bit between the first rough estimate and the final price tag. A lot of this was because of our locations (arrival and departure) so it could have been nice to know in advance, especially if budget is more of a concern. I'd advise asking for clarity about stair fees, long walk fees, shuttle fees, and other ancillary costs before committing if budget is a concern. 2) The actual move itself: the teams at both ends were extremely professional, helpful, and communicative. Despite the really long move, none of our belongings were damaged and it was clear they took extra care of the boxes we had labelled as fragile or valuable. They were conscientious about walls, floors and doors in our new place as they moved in. Basically if I were rating just the actual move service itself, I'd give it 5 stars. 3) Other factors: our belongings ended up being shipped by train, rather than truck. This wouldn't have presented an issue except for the wildfires in BC, which caused a backup in rail traffic. Communication about the status of our move when our things were in between the actual crews on either side was pretty abysmal. Our delivery was over a week delayed past the latest date in the target window, but no one reached out to us about that until after we had called multiple times (and at that point, it was the very helpful local team that was covering those touchpoints). It is basically impossible to reach the main office by phone once you have a move underway. We heard from the crew that the company is growing very quickly and wants to make sure the only people answering phones are trained enough to give good answers, and that resonates as once you do actually get through, the people on the other end of the line are pretty amazing and very competent, but a little stressful to have paid for the move and not hear anything about your belongings well after they should have been delivered. All in all, I'd say Number 1 movers is a very professional team that delivers exactly what they advertise. I imagine communications will be rocky for a while longer while they gear up to deal with their volumes, but I did appreciate the effectiveness and clarity of the people who did (eventually) answer the phones.

I had a great experience with Number 1 movers . I was given a quote and the rates were specific. I was quoted about 5 hours and it took 4 hours and 45 minutes. I was sent a text when the movers were on their way. They arrived on time. The movers worked quickly and with care of our belongings. Everything arrived in our new place in great shape. The movers were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this company to others. I will definitely use them again for any future moves.

Hire LITERALLY anyone else! I cannot even express my disappointment with the atrocious state of service rendered by Number 1 Movers with our long distance move. Not only did our delivery arrive nearly 10 days after the quoted date of arrival, but no customer service representatives that I called during the course of the delivery could confirm the state of my delivery, its location, whether items had been collected or even how many were collected. Several pieces of furniture were broken or severely scratched and we still have not received 2 pieces of furniture and it has been more than 2 months. With the millions of moving companies available to help with long-distance moves, I cannot stress enough what an awful experience working with this company was. I have no clue how they have a somewhat decent rating, because every aspect of their business practice is awful: communication, execution, quality, value. Number 1 Movers has abysmal communication, is utterly incompetent, fails to fulfill their deliveries and is as expensive (or more) than other services available. I regret having to continue to deal with this company to return my lost items. Not only have they failed (over the past two months since the delivery!!) to connect me with anyone who can actually provide information on the whereabouts of my items, but they just deny liability on the grounds that they hired subcontractors for their deliveries and pick-ups. I just want this awful ordeal to end. If you are considering hiring this company and want any more information about my experience to see how it might match up with your goals, reply to this message and I will get back to you. Hopefully you can avoid this nightmare.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I used this company for my long-distance move, and as soon as I was booked and had my deposit paid, my experience went downhill fast. They missed my move date on three separate occasions, for one of which I had to change my flight, and when they still didn't show up to pick up my items. They eventually came, but at that point, I had to fly out to start my new job, so I had to ask someone to be present to get my items loaded in my absence. During this time, the lack of communication was utterly frustrating. Once my items were finally picked up, I was given a date for my items to arrive, which naturally, given their track record with me, they missed. Again the lack of communication was stark. To top things off, they were callous in their response and took no responsibility for all of their pitfalls. The only exception would be one customer care associate I spoke with, yet they made promises they couldn't keep. At this point, I had been without my stuff for a while, and when they finally arrived, most of my items were damaged, and some were missing. At three months out, I am still missing things and have received no response from the various e-mails send about updates or reimbursement. I am missing some sentimental items that I will probably never get back. I chose this company because they had great reviews. They have either only do a fantastic job with in-province moves or have written the other reviews themselves. If you're looking for long-distance movers, honestly look somewhere else.

Worst company to deal with in an already stressful time. $3000 more then quoted price with a bunch of hidden fees we were never informed of. Impossible to get ahold of anyone to find out where our stuff is, when there picking up/delivering. Then get slammed with the bill that double then originally quoted. Worst moving experience ever. Still don't know where our stuff is or when we will be receiving it. When we did receive it alot of our furniture was broken our boxes that were fragile were so squished that all the dishes were broke inside. We had 2 containers that were not even our stuff mixed in and some of our kids stuff missing. I do not recommend this company at all.

The crew who loaded the truck at our residence was efficient and personable, and took the time to compliment my children on the packing they did.
