The reason I cannot provide a higher score is the moving crew, which is really the only thing I paid Intercontinental for (as they made clear to me, the rest of my money went to paying several other companies to perform the rest of our international move).
Prior to moving day, we were assured that all of our possessions would be removed from our half-filled storage bins and temporary boxes, and re-packed with protection into moving boxes. We were told the company would NEVER use our moving bins, since they are a waste of space inside the crate. They would ONLY use NEW boxes and EVERYTHING would be properly packed and inventoried by their crew. We were told this was absolutely imperative for any international move, and this is the level of service we paid for.
On moving day, none of this happened. The moving crew would take a half-filled storage bin or a poorly-taped temporary box, stuff in a few pieces of paper to 'protect' the existing contents, fill it up the rest of the way, flip it sideways or upside-down (having NO IDEA what was in the bottom), and stick it into the crate. When asked to re-pack everything properly into new boxes, as we had paid for, they consistently refused. 'No, it's better this way.' 'No, this is how we always do it.' They were booked for 4 hours and they left after 3 hours; the office said 'you pay for the work, not for the time,' but in our case we received neither.
We ended up with MANY things left over that should have been able to fit into the crate, if we had received the level of service that we paid for.
When I complained to the office, they assured me that they would fully re-pack our goods at their warehouse to fit the additional items. When I arrived at the warehouse, the 'full re-pack' did not consist of repacking a single box or bin; they just rearranged the items within the crate. They did find more space to add more items, but again they told us they would provide one level of service, and then provided a much lower level of service. We paid for a 'full pack,' but about half of our possessions ended up crossing the ocean 'owner-packed' instead, without nearly enough protection for a move of this distance.
I don't think Intercontinental are dishonest, and given the difficult circumstances of the pandemic I do believe they were trying. But they consistently overpromised and underdelivered, which generated significant added stress for us during an already extremely stressful time. I cannot in good faith recommend them, because unfortunately they just don't do what they say they will do.
