We hired First Rate Movers to help us with our move from Ottawa to Toronto. Wes, Zach and Cody were our movers. They impressed us very positively from the beginning to the end. Extremely punctual, competent and organized, they managed to empty our place in Ottawa in less than three hours (it took us more than a month to pack!) and the next day showed up at our new place in Toronto and brought us everything in less than three hours! They were incredible and I was happy to see why their ratings are so positive. I recommend them for anyone in need of movers! On May 22, I moved from an Orleans townhome to a Barhaven condo, 4th floor, no elevator. I was somewhat worried because I had read comments from people that used other companies saying that the movers were complaining because of having to go through 2 flight of stairs. Well, I worried for nothing. I received excellent end-to-end service. Adam, Matthew and Max arrived on time, wrapped every single piece of furniture in blankets, and worked non-stopped. They were friendly, very professional and even laughed together throughout the whole move even after climbing 3 flight of stairs carrying heavy pieces of furniture. Everything made it safely to my new place and the only broken piece during my move was a few days later when I dropped a decoration on the floor. When they handed me the bill at the end , I did not realize that they had forgotten to deduce the $100 deposit. The next day, I received a call from the company informing me of this and asking me how I wanted to be reimbursed. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a smooth move.

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I recently moved from a three bedroom house in barrhaven and the final bill came out under the estimated quote. The team that arrived was very professional and efficient. They had to contend with harsh winter conditions and it did not slow them down at all. They used runners to protect my hardwood floor. Flexibility: First Rate Movers were also flexible with the discarding of one of our furniture pieces that we needed to dispose of. During the move, I called Matt and he provided some helpful options that allowed us to get rid of the item. Over the course of our many years in Ottawa, we have moved on a number of occasions. By far and away, First Rate Movers are the best moving company we have used and I would highly recommend them to others. We used FirstRate Movers this week when we moved into our new house. This is the second moving company we have used in 10 years and comparing this company was night and day compared to our last experience. FirstRate Movers were on time, friendly and professional. No damage to anything at all, they removed the legs off the couch so it wouldn’t damage the door, they use padded blankets, a clear wrap and tape for all glass, tv’s, dining room tables, chairs, any tv stands, end tables, night stands ect. Accurate cost estimate also. I left them a good tip because I was so happy. The 5 guys were all great, asking where I wanted everything put in the house and set up when unloading the truck. Moving is stressful enough but having the right company is also really important and there is only 1 company to use and that’s First Rate Movers. Thanks guys!

I recently booked First Rate Movers for our relocation from our home in Nepean to our new home in Orleans. They provide the resources for dish packers (an extra cost), Wardrobes (included in moving costs) and vehicles to be very flexible with our moving dates. On moving day, we had their vehicle and 2 guys booked to move us, started at 8:30am and had finished around 6pm. Very fast and efficient, and very versed in effective techniques for moving heavy equipment, equipment in tight spaces, and demonstrated great teamwork. They did not stop when the going got tough. They couldn't have moved us at a better time, as 3 days later, Nepean was hit with a Tornado that decimated our neighbouring Arlington Woods area knocking the power grid in our area. Thank you for your friendly customer service, your demonstration of care for your team, and your efficient ability to get the job done!

Would highly recommend first rate movers to anyone! They are careful with your belongings and wrap everything in blankets to protect from the elements and the move. They are organized and fast. The gentlemen working for this company love what they do and always have a good professional personality. This was my second time moving with first rate movers. They come prepared with dollies, and a huge basket to put mix matched items in, as well as wrap and tape and blankets. When it gets to their truck they organize it by furniture/boxes/mix match items for easy and fast transport into your new home. Once into your new home they put down red carpets to protect your floors, which gives them passages to go from room to room without marking your floors. They will set up your bed frames for you and place your mattresses on the frames. When putting your items into the new house they are careful and very organized with where they place your items and make it so you can easily grab something to unpack when it is your time to do so. Thank you first rate movers! I will be using you again in the future! I recommend you to everyone!

They were at our front door at 9 am on the nose, treated our furniture and belongings with the utmost care, AND came in more than 2 hours below the time estimate quoted to us when we booked. We moved on Dec 22, 2020. Our crew was lead by Wes, including Zach, Cody and Rob. We were super impressed with their care and concern for our items valueable and non. The crew worked hard only taking a 5 min break here and there and they worked so well together as a team. At first we thought we had so much stuff that we may need two trips with the truck to our new home. However, these guys are TETRIS masters and were able to pack all of our 4 bedroom 4 bathroom townhouse into one truckload! We were super impressed with their ability to minimize the trips and thus the cost for us. As wel, we really appreciated the time they took on the other end unpacking the truck, placing items in their proper spots and setting up the beds for us! This made our move so much more relaxing and helped us settle in much faster. I will not hesitate to use them again and will definitely HIGHLY recommend First rate movers to family and friends. The name says it all. These guys are truly first rate. Where to begin. We were booked for an 830 start time. The boys showed up at 825 ready to go. They really care and make sure to properly protect porches and flooring before they begin. They wanted a thorough walk thru before beginning to move anything so they knew exactly what was to be moved. They told me they were going to work for a few minutes to “warm up” before we went over the paperwork. I stood around in awe for 2 hours while they carefully wrapped and packed all my furniture in an astonishingly quick time. The guys were very friendly and extremely professional. The unload went even better. Quick, efficient, professional. Even when we weren’t sure of where to place furniture, they were more than happy to move to different locations in the house until we were decided. They reassembled all the furniture they took apart during packing and made sure we were satisfied with everything before they packed up and left. They explained all the paperwork clearly and the price was exactly as quoted....The truck slogan says it all, “if you ain’t first, you’re last”. They will be my first recommendation for anyone who asks. No hesitation on 5 stars

The best movers in Ottawa! Very friendly and professional. A lot of movers appear to get pretty “winded” by the end of the job, but these guys didn’t seem tired at all! They obviously were very experienced. Worth every penny!

I have been moving pretty much all my life. Change houses, change countries. In total, I have moved over 35 times in my whole life. I just wish this to stop. Anyway, throughout all the moves, I have experienced a bit of everything from a good Woww to a total disaster. I have to say that the experience I had with First Rate Movers really exceeded my expectations. Dealing with Matt from First Rate Movers was really a pleasure. Despite their busy schedule, they were booked already until September, Matt was very cordial and was on top. We moved from a 5 bedroom single family in Orléans to a 2 bedroom condo in downtown on the 16th floor. Our main concern was the care of two items: A glass tempered dining table x 8 people weighting over 400 lbs and 7ft 4 in long making it almost impossible to fit into the elevator. Matt recommended that this item be crated. (This is how they cared about your items, not just the promise that they will do the job). Furthermore, we had a large marble top for our center table. The original piece was broken in one of our prior moves. This item was also recommended to be crated. At the end, we agreed at our own discretion not to crate those 2 items and rely on their expertise. The results simply amazing. The crew (4 people in total) managed to enter the dining table into the elevator and took it upstairs and is now sitting at our new place. I do have to say that because I booked my move late in July , I was left with only one date and with a group of contractors. Matt kept saying that his crew is even better. Well, I must say that the crew that came did it very well , were extremely professional, provided great care and from what was supposed to be a 7 hours job; they managed to do it in less than 5. Before I picked FRM for my move, I did a lot of research and the rating they had was really impeccable. I am glad i took the decision of going with FRM and both my wife and I were extremely please. I highly recommend FRM. Their team was really amazing.

I sent an emergency request to move large bedroom furniture pieces from the 2nd level of my townhouse. These pieces has originally been hoisted through an open area rather than moved via the staircase. Matt from First Rate Movers was very quick to respond with a very honest and upfront price quote, asked for pictures of the area, advised me on concerns and provided hope that hoisting would not be required. I've moved a lot in my life. First Rate Movers are the best I've used. They were professional, courtesy and they work efficiently as a team. They assessed the situation and recommended another professional team to move my piano (which I'm really grateful for). This is a huge contrast to the previous mover I used (Hercules Moving Company) which was a scam company with dubious ethnics. I've used First Rate Movers for 3 moves now, once to a 1 bedroom walk up apartment, a 3 bedroom garden home, and a 3 bedroom single family home. Each time I've had an excellent experience. Everything was explained well beforehand, and it was easy to book a date that worked well for us. Staff showed up on time, walked us through their loading plan, and wrapped all the large pieces of furniture we had. On our last move we had some larger fragile pieces but they did their best to protect and secure them, everything made it in one piece. First Rate Movers, do they live up to their name? We say yes! The 3 man crew showed up earlier than expected for our early AM move. All furniture was meticulously wrapped and brought down our building's elevator undamaged. Move was completed earlier than expected despite being a very cold and snowy day. The movers were very respectable. They brought their own mats to keep the areas they were walking in clean and protected. They were prepared to disassemble and assemble my furniture - had all the right tools and took very good care of the items. All furniture was wrapped and tapped to ensure no damage was done. I had a few bins I was going to transport myself and they volunteered to take it themselves. Overall very good service. I felt my belongings were well protected and being taken care of. When I did my research there were plenty of other moving agencies that could have done the job at a more economical rate however FRM seemed to have the best insurance coverage and protocols to ensure safety and protection of all materials. I have moved with First Rate four times in the past. (We seem to move far too often). First Rate have been extremely professional, efficient and friendly throughout all of my experiences. I was always pleased by how quick the quoting and booking process took and how willing they were to accommodate my needs. They never once broke any of our possessions. We have moved TVs, Mirrors, Beds, Bikes, you name it. They always wrap and look after your possessions with the utmost care. We lucked out to work with Zack all four times that we moved and established a great relationship with him which is not something you expect when you're moving. All of the crew members have been hardworking, punctual and very friendly, a real pleasure to work with. I've moved with them in different seasons and they have never once complained in the rain, 40 + degree heat or snow. What really set them apart for me was what happened to me last week. I am moving from Ottawa to Calgary and I had tried a generic site on Google to get an idea of cost. It's one of those websites where you input the cities, dates and general amount of stuff ie: 2 bedroom apartment. I was quick to get various responses and when they began to harass me for confirmation I had a reg flag moment. After reading a few reviews it backed up my instincts for concern. I called First Rate to see if I could get a suggested company for a long distance move. Matt was VERY helpful in naming two companies that they have worked with/referred before. He took the time to advise me of some of the scams with moving (those type of sites being one of them). He then went above and beyond to check the suggested company's membership with CAM (Certified Canadian Movers) and their BBB (Better Business Bureau) Rating. I have now finalized my move to Calgary without worries of a sketchy horror story type move ahead. I would strongly suggest calling First Rate if you're moving within Ottawa.

Despite the job being a difficult one, due to the weight and size of some furnitures, they were able to move everything within a reasonable timeframe, without any damage. While their pricing is not the cheapest that I could find in the city, but it’s not the most expensive either. If you consider the value that they provide, it’s worth every penny in my opinion.

I booked a move from a 2 bedroom apartment (with LOTS of stuff) to a new townhouse with First Rate Movers, and I can honestly say that my experience was absolutely fantastic! I don't normally write reviews, but after dealing with First Rate Movers, I felt the need to let others know how great they are. The two movers arrived 20 minutes early to prepare the truck and to get an idea of what kind of furniture I had, how many boxes, etc. They were extremely professional and it was completely obvious that they had worked as a team before - they are two exceptionally hard working guys! They emptied the apartment in record time, wrapped all the fragile pieces of furniture with blankets and even provided a wardrobe box for clothing on hangers. They were talking 3 heavy boxes of books at a time, not just one box each load... After leaving the apartment, they arrived at the townhouse just after I did - and I don't even think they took a break by this time. They unloaded everything again in record time - I just directed where the boxes and furniture was to go and they placed everything where I asked (even centering bookshelves on the walls). Outstanding!! I realize that I was lucky when I booked First Rate Movers rather than another company, and that's why I wrote this review - do yourself a favour and book with this company and gain some peace of mind on moving day...

The best experience with movers I have ever had!!! Three people came to move us out of our 3 bedroom home. They arrived right on time and went above and beyond my expectations. Runners were place through the entire grouse so they could walk without messing up the carpet or hardwood floor. Just about every piece of furniture was wrapped in a protective blanket and they managed to do it all within their quoted time frame. There was even a 7 foot couch we were certain would not fit into our new place, but they had no problem moving it. I would highly recommend this company and if I ever had to move again, I would only use this company.

First Rate just left our home after a day long move and they ABSOLUTELY live up to their name. Professional from first contact with Matt and the quote process to a stellar day with their team of three (thanks v.m to Sean (apologies if I spelled your name incorrectly), Wesley and Zack. They clocked themselves and we've never seen a team of guys work harder. Our final bill came in between the minimum and maximum quoted and that was completely down to the hustle they displayed. All furniture was wrapped and taped and treated like it was precious antiques. We will definitely be using them for our next move and will recommend them to all family and friends without hesitation.

First Rate Movers is aptly named. Pleasant, professional & timely. They moved us in & out so quickly & efficiently we saved significantly. When I was delayed in following them to the new apartment, I arrived to find them hard at work, as they had (very courteously, I was told later) asked our landlady for permission to access so they could get to work right away. Once the furniture was in, they patiently moved items around & made suggestions until the best use of the small space was achieved. Very helpful as my spatial understanding is quite poor! They handled all our things, and the place we were moving into, with respect (I was especially grateful for their handling of our china cabinet, an item of deep sentimental value which I was frankly worried about moving).

We hired First Rate Movers based on what we read on-line by other customers, and decided to use them. We had a great team led by Wes and I can't empathize enough how efficient they were and how carefully they handled our furniture. They wrapped all of our furniture, and I feel took a lot less time moving us than other competitors did in the past. Finally, I just want to add that we noticed that a very heavy desk we had didn't seem to be screwed back together as tight as it originally was, and a seam was showing on one side. Within a day of sending an e-mail asking if someone happened to be in the area, if they could drop in. We are seniors and the desk was too heavy for us to fix ourselves. No problem. Need a reputable company to help you with your move AND to provide you with good customer service? Then DO NOT go with this organisation! First Rate BULLIES Inc. would be a more appropriate name for this company, but more specifically, for their management team. From my initial phone interaction with management, I found them aggressive. Rather than listen to the information I was trying to provide regarding my moving needs, the manager was more interested in assuming what my needs were and proceeded to tell me about various services which Move-Ottawa Movers could and could not provide. Going against my initial reaction, and having only three days before my expected move, I decided to book a moving crew with First Rate Movers Inc., and my booking confirmation was received on Friday October 16, 2015 - the day before my expected move. However, due to reasons out of my control, and despite dozens of phone and email attempts, that Friday I was not able to connect with and confirm the move date and time with the seller/contact person needed at the business/starting location of my move. Early Saturday morning I called First Rate Movers Inc. and left a voicemail message describing the current situation, and my desire to reschedule once I had made contact with the seller. A short time later, I received a hostile phone call from the management team demanding that I pay the full amount of the move because they had two men on the ground waiting for their next job. Remaining calm, I re-explained that I had not been able to get a hold of my contact person up to this point and that I would like to reschedule. Strangely enough, though First Rate Movers Inc. requires customers to be flexible due to situations out of their control (i.e., “start times can not be guaranteed”), they certainly had and showed NO flexibility or understanding with regards to circumstances that were outside of my control. To make a long story short, I frantically made some more Saturday morning phone calls and was eventually able to track down a colleague of my contact person at their place of residence. We were eventually able to proceed with the move on Saturday as initially scheduled, but not before this experience left me with a very bad impression of the company I now refer to as, First Rate BULLIES Inc. Never again will I use this company. Potential customers beware. Disclaimer: The two men on the ground doing the move were courteous, understanding and professional, however their management team was severely lacking in ALL of the above.

We've used First Rate Movers twice now to move our daughter from her one-bedroom apartment. The first was a local move from one building to another (we packed everything). The second move we also packed everything and they loaded all the boxes and furniture into a U-Haul for our move out-of-town. The movers were efficient and quick, wrapped the furniture in blankets and secured the load. The moves were all done within the 2 hour (minimum) estimate for loading plus the one hour for crew's travel time. Matt was a pleasure to deal with to confirm dates and estimates and responded to emails and phone calls quickly. We will definitely use them again.

A move from the Glebe area to downtown near Elgin in Ottawa after almost 17 years at the same place seemed to be quite a stressful situation. Four different movers were suggested to me. I had to find out which one I related to the best. They were all quite very good possibilities. After asking many questions, I felt First Rate Movers were my number 1 choice. Why? It turned out they were familiar with both locations: this was a plus for me! A date was set up for January 15th, 2021. I filled a document with all pertaining information about what was to be moved, what could be moved, number of bedrooms etc. Then a price was established in view of that information I kept in touch with the owner Matt many times even on the eve of the move, making sure they had all the info and mostly that the mattress was going to have a cover, my biggest worry. He was always patient and business like and reassured me that they had a lot of mattress covers in the truck… Now I had to be ready! The morning of the 15th, I was a tad nervous but the team was punctual; the truck was to arrive for 8:30. I saw the truck arrived around 8:15 and a few minutes later, got a phone call that they were in the loading area. They were definitely reliable! They were two gentlemen, who worked as if it was all orchestrated, each knowing what to do, wrapping, lifting and when one needed a hand, it was instantly answered, they had their routine, they worked well together, I was quite impressed. They were definitely professional and polite. They unloaded, unwrapped, installed, placed furniture and set up the bed where I had planned it at the new location, again in an efficient manner. First Rate Movers were true to their name by providing us first rate service. They moved our four bedroom house furniture in a very efficient manner from Stittsville to Kanata. Their crew were experienced, very capable and courteous. Their truck was clean and well maintained, and all our furniture was neatly and professionally packed in their truck to avoid any damage during the local move. Above all, they took good care of our furniture, which they wrapped in clean blankets. They were also able to manoeuvre the tight staircase down to our basement with a refrigerator, treadmill and large dresser without even a scratch on our walls. Upon close examination after the move we were very pleased that none of our furniture sustained any damage whatsoever. First Rate Movers helped me with my move a few months ago and were absolutely amazing! I booked with about 3 weeks' short notice and they were able to accommodate my smaller move on a week day. On the day of the move some of their team was down because of a heat wave, but they notified me immediately and re-allocated a team to get the job done. When the movers arrived they loaded my belongings lightning fast, and wrapped the couple of big items that needed it. They unloaded just as quick at my new location, and every single item came out in perfect condition. No drops, scratches, or any kind of damage, even on glass items and TVs. The person I spoke to was well-spoken & seemed knowledgeable at first, although he didn't realize that he was speaking to someone who's family used to be in the moving business & knew that half of his "helpful tips" are complete b-s. However, he spent the entire conversation bad-mouthing every other moving company in Ottawa! He could have left it at 'We are the best in Ottawa & here is why.....' but to spend an entire 15-20 minute conversation telling me that some "discount moving companies hire criminals who just want to rob their customers" along with many other even more horrible things. This was completely uncalled for & in my opinion, not the way to run an ethical & successful business. He specifically asked me what other companies I was waiting for quotes from & then proceeded to say that they weren't even legitimate businesses. If they really are "the best" they would not have to try to ruin the reputations of their competitors. I wouldn't use this company for my move if they offered to pay me!!

Zach and Aaron from First Rate Movers helped me with my family's move in July (2015). They arrived on time and was very fast and efficient. I lived on a 2nd floor of a small condo building with 1 elevator. Another tenant was moving that day as well, which held up the elevator. Zach and Aaron did not hesitate to move the "lighter" items via the stairs, and piled the heavy items in 1 ride, to save time. It's also worth noting that since IKEA is basically Swedish for do-not-take-apart-more-than-once, I didn't take apart my 4 by 4 expedite book case, and was prepared for some scratches. Zach and Aaron move that chunky thing into the new place without a scratch!

We recently used this company to move us from a one bedroom apartment to a smaller one bedroom apartment in the heart of Ottawa. This is the second time that we have used this company (first time was in 2014). They were so good the last time, I didn't even consider the possibility of using another company. The two guys who showed up to complete the move (Zack and Aaron) were fast, friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this company to anyone! P.S. It's probably a good sign that Zack and Aaron were the movers that completed our move two years ago. Zack mentioned that he'd been with the company for the last 7 years. I would guess that it is unusual for a moving company to keep employees for that long, unless they are doing something right (both the company and the employees)!

I have used First Rate Movers twice so far. Once to go from an apartment to a house (in 2010), the second time between houses in the same neighborhood (2015). On each occasion the team of workers were fantastic! They worked non-stop, took the utmost care to ensure no damage and were unfailingly polite. Both times they came in below the time estimate provided. They disassembled/re-assembled all furniture as necessary without any problems (including making sure no parts were lost) and did everything possible to get each box in the correct room. First Rate Movers were amazing, from start to finish! They communicated thoughout the process: prior to the move, during the move and when billing. The movers called us 5 minutes before arriving at the house. They carefully and efficiently loaded furniture to fill the 1,200 sf apartment. They set up the furniture in the new location after unloading. No time was wasted. When furniture in one of the rooms was tighter than expected, the movers even suggested a new arrangement that made everything fit, even though it meant moving heavy units a second time. They were pleasant to chat with as they worked and I highly recommend them to all. It's hard to find such a high quality of service these days and that's what makes First Rate Movers stand out.

So ... what do you expect from a Mover? you want someone that shows up when they say, treats your belongings with respect, and gets your stuff out of your old place and into your new one quickly and damage free. You get all of that with FirstRate. What you also get is a sense of deliberate success, a sense of humour and an very pleasant interaction with the staff. You get a sense that they are proud of doing an excellent job ... and you are very quickly calmed amidst the stressful time associated with a move. I have written about two reviews in my life but felt it necessary to write one here. I would recommend FirstRate without any reservations. There is an old adage: Fast, Cheap, Good - pick two. In this case, I believe I received all three.

We had two movers who went to great lengths to ensure that they kept our house as clean as possible ans that everything was loaded in such a way as to prevent damage in transit. They worked very hard and there was little to no downtime - very efficient. I have had some less-than-stellar experiences with movers over the years, but this company were solid professionals at every step. I would highly recommend them.

This is our 3rd move with First Rate Movers. I have moved nationally and internationally approx 20 times. I wish First Rate Movers would have done all our moves. Usually one of the worst parts of the move is dealing with movers - not so with First Rate, Jesse and Aaron were awesome to deal with, as was Matt with coordination and planning. Nothing was ever damaged in any of our moves with them. Everything is carefully wrapped in blankets, and anything disassembled is put back together thee way it should be. These guys take a quick walk through the house to size up the job then get down to business, super efficient with their time. They are very skilled at maximizing space on the truck, not an inch is wasted. Courteous, professional, on time, going above and beyond to accommodate. We asked to have a few things rearranged at the end of the move, they didn't bat an eye, just got the job done. I can't emphasize enough how pleased we were with our choice of moving companies - there are lots out there but none in my experience have compared to First Rate. You won't be disappointed.
